Mrs. Turner is a very nice, approachable lady. She offers office time & will answer questions before & after class. Her tests were a bit tough, but she wants you to remember this information. She also gives you a test review and if you study everything off of it, you're sure to get an A. I would take her again because she is VERY interesting!
She puts all her notes online with pictures and everything. Her tests are tough, but she helps you out a lot. I didn't even have the book and I got an A.
very nice woman. tests cover alot of material so its good if you are good at memorizing. she definitely knows her stuff. she never puts anyone on the spot but gets a little frustrated when no one is answering her questions. i would definitely take her again
shes very nice understands when computers mess up and your tests or quizes are missing, just dont forget discussions! they are a huge part of your grade but overall not a bad class
I am horrible at history and Mrs. Turner actually made me enjoy it.i somewhat enjoyed an 8am history class. Shes so sweet and helpful! i wish she taught art history 2. Her tests are hard because she honestly wants you to learn the material that shes so passionate about. These tests you really need to study for... not just the night before
She's OK. Uses Blackboard a lot - posts a all powerpoints and notes. In class you must participate (if you want good grade). She runs over ton of slides in class but for test you'll get study sheet - that's VERY helpful but tests are not easy. She does 3 quizes and 3 tests. Research paper is only 2-3pg. Once you figure out how to take her tests i
I hated this class. Her tests are hard, she's boring to listen to and it wasn't worth waking up at 8 in the morning. A plus is that she puts all of her outlines online so that you can sleep in class XP
As much as I hated having an 8 AM class nearly every other day, Mrs. Turner is absolutely adorable and made the pain of waking up much more bearable with her charm and enthusiasm. She loves what she's teaching and does her best to share that energy with the class. Study hard and know your stuff--her tests are hard, and she can be picky on details.
Despite it being in an 8am class, I enjoyed this teacher. She's very enthusiastic about the material. Take this professor only if you actually want to learn, a lot of the freshmen in this course weren't that interested, screwed around, and the average grades on tests hovered in the 40-50 range as a result.
I'm not a fan of history but this class was enjoyable because of her! There's a lot to learn but she gives you a list of things that will be on the exam and things that WONT be on the exam. Never brought book to class, just PAY ATTENTION in class, no homework just 1 paper and 3 exams. Awesome teacher, you will learn amazing things about past art.
This class was GREAT, only had to write one paper and 3 exams, there werent any outside readings. Shes energetic, funny, enthusiastic. The class is taught lecture style, but she keeps it interesting. Shes very helpful before her tests, she even gives you a list of what you DONT need to study so you dont waste your time. DEFFINETLY take her class.
I love this woman. She is enthusiastic, organized, and very helpful. She posts all her lecture slides online which helps with studying and missed classes. She gives you lots of time for the papers and wonderful study sheets. She is very accommodating to students without being a push over. To me she is basically the Perfect Professor.TAKE HER CLASS.
Several people dropped this class and the remaining failed. Go figure. Thought we would at least get graded on the curve but we thought wrong. We all studied our *** off and couldn't figure out her grading system.
I had her for Survey of W. Art, and despite her funny/weird personatlity, it was a really hard class. My friends had the same class but different teacher who gave them a sheet of 20 slides that they had to learn,Turner gave us 20 we DIDNT have to learn which left like over 100 that we did. I had to pull all-nighters to just get a B in this class
I love this professor! I thought her class was the perfect hardness level. She offers 10 points extra credit on each test, but she also requires you to really learn the material. If you study you WILL get an A. Just work hard and pay attention to her lectures. She is a very fun and passionate professor! Highly recommend!
Turner is really excited about art history and it shows in her teaching. Her classes are dull to say the least, powerpoint after powerpoint, but it is art history after all! She gives you a great study guide before exams and she's really fair. I'd take her again.
She was Excellent. She was so helpful and even helped me out when I didnt turn things in on time. she has A VAST knowledge of material and is excited to share it with you and it shows. Tests are easy if you study a minimum of an hour. she gives extra credit. Take her for Survey 1!
Very nice and very helpful! This was an 8am class, and she managed to keep it interesting, even though at times she would kind of go off on a tangent about something. Her tests are a little difficult, but if you study hard, it will be fine!
No. That's all I have to say, you won't have homework...but don't let that win you over. It evens out through ALL the downfalls of this class, and trust me theres alot. So just don't take it.
Awesome teacher!Take good notes and pay close attention. She really knows whats she is talking about and she is easy going, quite funny, and loves what she does. for her coarse just read the textbook and you're good- no classwork nor any group presentations. she made learning enjoyable, I recommend her to anyone who is afraid to take Art history!
She is a very nice, cheerful woman. Everyone would like her as a person. But the exams are quite hard! You must memorize tons of things.
Turner is warm, well informed, personable, and enthusiastic about what she teaches. She was very willing to arrange meetings to talk about paper topics. My only grievance is her lack of clarity when assigning projects. The class found out AFTER she graded the projects that she wasn't clear in what she was looking for.
I LOVE Dr. Turner, she is funny, and knows her stuff. She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches, very funny person. You can tell she loves what she does. The tests are easy if you study, which you HAVE to... she makes you memorize everything. I would definitely take her again.
Very nice lady, but the class was a little dry. A lot of slides to memorize and tests are sort of hard, but also pretty easy. Essays on tests, multiple choice. Just go to class and pay attention and youll do fine.
So boring. Do not take her. She gives you around 300 slides to learn and two of which are on the exam. No exaggeration. Very Hard. You can tell she is enthusiastic about the subject she teaches. She is a nice woman but a hard grader on written assignments. I personally wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
Professor Turner is IN LOVE with Art History. She is so passionate about teaching it. I thought she was an ok teacher, very nice and the class was interesting. HOWEVER, there is a lot of studying. MARK MY WORDS: If you do NOT study you will FAIL. I spent 90% of last quarter studying and got and A. I recommend her to students MAJORING in Art History
Gives very helpful study guides for her exams. If you study well, you will do well. Dates are important but she also wants you to be able to identify characteristics of cultures based on the artifacts they left behind. She is very enthusiastic and excited about Art History! Lecture and slide class, pay attention take notes, get the main points.
she gives three exams, OVER ONE HUNDRED NOTECARDS EACH. i studied three to four days in advance and i got "c"s. don't take her unless you love art history as much as she does -- and, believe me, she LOVES art history.
Cool teacher. i hate history, but she kept it interesting. im planning to take her again for the second part of art history!
Very Difficult class. Must study for each quiz and exam or you WILL fail the class. Class is very boring unless you share her firey passion of art history as well.
I really loved this course! Professor Turner is very passionate about the subject, and she makes what might normally be dull much more interesting. Presentations are all available on Blackboard to study with, which is quite handy. I personally found her tests and papers to be completely reasonable, even easy at times. I would recommend her.
I can honestly say I have never wasted so much money on my education until I took this class. There was not one day she had the lights on in class. Manditory attendance but no class involvement. BEWARE! Exams are horrible long. Over 150 slides to study and she only chooses maybe 10 or less of them to use on the exam. She is nice though...
I took Medieval Art with Turner, and it was amazing! She has an obvious love for the subject and it really keeps class fresh. Her study guides lay out everything you need to know for the test, so if you don't do well, it's your own fault. This class was legitimately enjoyable and I'm glad to have taken it with such a great professor!
This class was awful. I do not suggest this teacher. She expects you to memorize a ridiculous amount of information but only puts a small portion on the tests and only has a few grades the whole quarter so it's really hard to keep your grade up.
She adores history! And is quite friendly. Her tests require a lot of memorization for all the different parts of art. You're going to need to study a lot.
Fantastic professor. The class is fun, there is no useless homework. She is very interesting and funny. Favorite professor this quarter.
She was interesting and informative. SHe really cared about what she taught and made you want to learn about it. Her class is a lot of work, but I really enjoyed it. I would recommend her if you are an attentive student who can pay attention in class. Also, the classroom is very dark and if you have the class early I would highly recommend coffee.
Professor Turner was definitely one of my favorite teachers. She is so into the history of everything she teaches, it's really amazing. You can tell that she thoroughly understand the material, and in turn, so do you. She really is an excellent teacher. The only downside is that her class is a Powerpoint oriented class, so it can get a tad boring.
I took her class last quarter and I loved it! It's not an easy class, you do have to study but she gives you a study guide and all the slides are up on her blackboard. She practically gives you everything you need, all you need to do is remember the important facts and write intelligently. She is very approachable and makes things interesting.
She is the sweetest woman ever. Her passion for history is infectious, and it's adorable how excited she gets about it. The study guides are EXTENSIVE so pace yourself or you'll suffer. Also, it's dark the whole class, and it's all Powerpoint, so it is TOO easy to fall asleep. She's not the easiest professor, but I still reccomend her.
Great teacher! Highly recommend, barely ever homework minus the studying. The tests were fairly easy if you listen in class and study. I never bought the textbook and still recieved an A in the class, just take lots of notes! Overall very helpful, and super nice. Take her!!
She's one of the best teacher I have had so far! I learned so much with her, I highly recommend her! The test aren't that hard if you study. Also if you pay attention in class and take notes you'll be fine!
Turner is the sweetest!! You will absolutely love this professor. She really adores history (she does the cabbage patch dance about it lol) and understands most people don't love it. She works hard to help you understand, gives a full study guide, never gives homework besides studying, EASY essay, and is so approachable and caring. You WILL learn.
I constantly struggled with this class. She's very enthusiastic about Art History, but her tendency to go on and on put students to sleep. Be prepared to study A LOT. I had to get a tutor, there's tons of dates you need to memorize. Only take this class if you're REALLY into art history, otherwise you're going to have a hard time.
Only take this class if you absolutely LOVE art history and don't have any studio classes. The time required to study is unbelievable, and she will find the most minute things to down grade you on. You will need to study 60+ images and she will only give you the list of those 60 one week before the test, until that point it's all a shot in the dark
Sitting in class felt like a punishment. Turner tries to make it fun but she has low energy her voice is monotonous enough to make it like sitting through an awkward 5th grade class that can put you into a coma. The work load is ridiculous. The exam only covers a tiny part of what you have to study but she makes you study too much for the test.
I liked her as a person, not as a professor. Way too much information for a class; she's very passionate about Medieval ARCHITECTURE (not so much as the art)and it's like she wants us to be as passionate as her. She gives study guides, but about 10% of the info makes it onto tests/ quizzes. Not a 'fun', easy class. More for Art History majors.
Not taking a good class because 'you have to work' is ridiculous. The workload is very manageable. She makes you memorize periods, not specific dates. Some quizzes and several essays. If you want to learn, take Turner. She has such a passion for what she does that it's contagious, and she also makes it fun. I would definitely take her again.
Turner is a good professor overall. Very easy, be prepaird to study though. Tests are not too hard however. She has a monotone voice which puts you to sleep but she is very kind and has lots of passion about the subject which helps a lot
I worked really hard in this class but had to end up dropping it towards the end of the quarter. She expects you to be able to memorize ridiculous amounts of information. If you're not good at memorization, DO NOT take Rebecca Turner's class.
Wonderful professor. Very specific classwork so make sure you actually like the subject because it's a lot of stuff to absorb. Her lectures are fun and she's in her office every day for extra help. I'm not an art history fan but I really loved this class.
I love this professor!!! She is a great professor!!! You must be ready to study and read the chapters. Don't miss too many classes, not fatal if you do but you miss good information. Group projects listen to her directions or else you will not do well. Get the book!! read it, ask questions and study you will do well!!!
Loved Professor Turner, but her class is incredibly hard. The quizes are set up weird. There is a study guide but its a whole bunch of information and then the quiz is only like 5 questions. Tough grader on the essays.
Basic art history course. You'll be really tempted to fall asleep because lectures are long and often dark DONT. You absolutely have to study for her exams. Group papers are a thing on the midterm and on the final you write your own paper but she's lovely and this class gave me a good foundation for ARTH101
she doesn't really help the international students, and she loves showing her husband in all her pictures
As an international student this is the second time I pick her class. She is a true writer and scholar. She is strict but you should always notice she treats herself that way as well. I was the only one got an F for midterm but I showed my effort and talent after that. I could feel that her attitude changed. I ended up having a B.
She lectures with powerpoint every single class, sets up study guides and her guidelines for her essays/quizzes on blackboard. If you pay attention in class and study, you will receive a good grade. There are 3 quizzes, 2 take home essays, and a final exam. She tries to make the lectures interesting & cares deeply about art history. I recommend her
She will count off points for spelling on tests. Get ready to study fifty pieces of artwork for each test. Then the test will only involve two I.D. Slides and about ten multiple choice. So there's a lot of unnecessary studying. She's tough.
Professor Turner is a tough grader but she should be for Art History. She is passionate about the topics chosen and knows exactly what she's lecturing about. The bad part is the assignments and grading. Memorising over 50 artworks for a 25 minute test is useless and redundant. Take home exams will save your grades.
Prof. Turner is funny yet really knows her stuff. She always comes to class with a positive attitude. I took this class very early in the morning, but I was interested in the topics she lectured us on. You do need the textbook, but reading is not a must as long as you memorize the images she indicates. Would take again.
Good class but the exams and quizzes are difficult. The papers are easy A's.
Professor Turner was nice enough and she had easy tests that were graded in a simple, understandable manner. However, that is where the positives end. You will be spending most of the class extremely bored as her entire lecture is based around looking at slides and listing off facts. Also, on written reports, she isn't clear about what she wants.
She is adorable in how passionate about art history. Every class is all powerpoint-based lecture, so get ready to take notes (if you want - theoretically you can pretty much get by with just the textbook). The quizzes are very hard and you'll need to study a lot, but class itself isn't strenuous. She's also quite funny, and her humor grows on you.
She is really nice! it's the second time I take her, just prepare for the exam and you will be good
I love Professor Turner! She is so happy and passionate about Art History and has such engaging lectures that even though I have an 8 am class, I always enjoy going. The class can be hard work if you slack off, but as long as you focus and do your work you will be just fine.
She is very bad at teaching. If you are able to teach yourself well, then you will do fine. However this class could be passed without showing up a single time, because you learn absolutely NOTHING. To give her some credit, she is quite nice as a person, however not very helpful at passing the class.
You will need to set aside time to actually study, and then study some more. She gives you about 4x the information that you will need to know for the test, but you need to study all of it. She is the sweetest lady and will help you out. She recommends getting a tutor. Classes are all slideshow lectures, but she gave us access to the powerpoints!
Professor Turner is a wonderful person. Survey 1 covers a lot of information and she makes it bearable. All quizzes were online and there is plenty of time to complete them. Would definitely take he again if I could.
Prof. Turner wasn't a bad professor, but she did try too hard to be relatable in my eyes. She gets very into the pieces she shows, and will show photos of her husband next to the art work for a sense of scale but also just gives off this "trying to be quirky" energy. The class itself is fine at best honestly - doable but not horrible.
Coming from a person who direly needs an interactive teacher in order to stay focused or retain anything at all, Rebecca was the least bit helpful in that aspect. She leaves all of the window shades closed and lights off in an 8am class and lectures at the volume of a mouse. Aside from this she is a very informative teacher. Have to pay attention!
Mrs. Turner is a teacher with good intentions but poor execution. You study at least 50+ different artworks (per quiz) with at least 5 components to each artwork and memorizing the smallest details which she will state once in class. I would HIGHLY recommend avoiding this teacher unless you like an extreme challenge or a lower GPA.
In this class, your grade is based off three exams and a small paper. She grades hard but fair. There is far too much material to study for each exam. She tries her best to make her 2 1/2 hour lectures interesting by being "funny". If you are a good test taker, this might be the course for you.
To be honest, I feel as if people are too hard on Professor Turner. I found her exams and essay grading criteria to be very straightforward and easy to understand. She does tend to grade a bit harder, so you need to put effort into your homework. But if you just chat with her after class, she gives you great advice on how to approach assignments.
Extremely hard grader. Check over all of your work, and get a good head start on studying for all quizzes/exams! She gives you all of the possible information that could be on the test, and expects you to memorize all of it, even though it all won't be on the exam... (tea). I learnt a lot, but was stressed out about the tests and papers...
Turner cares about what she is teaching and tries to make her lectures interesting by making quirky jokes. She lectures the full two hours, all quarter. There are three tests and one paper. For the tests you must learn the dates, titles, origins, etc. of around 60+ works, each time. The daily assigned reading just solidifies what she says in class.
Seems easy at first because you don't have to do the readings--she puts summaries of everything on Blackboard. However, she only has 3 tests, which cover 4 chapters each, and they're very short and easy to flunk. You have to memorize over 60 images (artist, country, period, material, purpose), but only 12 will be on the test. Very boring lectures.
Literally was on my way to failing. I tried my hardest in the class but I just ended up dropping it. I didnt want to risk messing up my gpa and that was the only class below a B. Just have to depend on memorizing everything.
She lectures for the whole class, every class. Your whole grade is based on three very short tests and two papers. For the tests you need to memorize the title, dates, material, techniques, and function of over 60 pieces of art when only two of the pieces show up on the test. Very tough grader, so check your work and make sure everything is right.
I barely got an A in this class, and most people got Bs and below. There's only 3 tests and 3 worksheets, so if you get a bad grade on just one test, good luck Charlie. She's nice, but she isn't good at teaching. I barely payed attention in class because most of the stuff she says isn't even on the test. You just have to learn it all on your own.
She Stands in front of a PowerPoint and talks for two and a half hours. I practically taught myself and could barely keep focus in class. This is not the teacher for you if you want an engaging or interesting class. No electronics allowed and you only take three test. She keeps you till the last second of class so youre gonna miss the buses too.
nice lady but very long boring lectures. she was understanding but the tests were very difficult and a lot of information needed to be memorized to pass.
Worst teacher ive ever had she honestly made me hate art history. You are given 60+ terms to memorize then only 10 are on the test. You only have three papers and 3 tests and the tests are very hard. Seriously just take another class unless you want your GPA to go down.
Your final grade in this class is the result of 2 difficult quizzes, a final exam, and a major research essay. That's all. There are about 40+ pieces to memorize per exam and the details she wants are left vague. Her classes are also a full 2.5 hours of constant lecturing that can be soul-crushing as she goes up until the very last minute.
Although Prof Turner lectures the entire class, she does it with enthusiasm. She is very clear about everything that will be on the tests, but you do have to memorize artwork, its period and the dates of that period (not the specific dates of the pieces). If you pay attention in class, or even if you don't and you just study well, you'll succeed.
Prof. Turner is a really nice lady. She wasn't my favorite professor but she is very knowledgeable about art history and loves it. If you take her be ready to take lots of notes because classes are mostly all lectures. You must have the textbook (rent it), and if you don't listen in class you need to read it. She's a good choice!
I struggled to pay attention in this class. It could be due to it being online, but I think it's also probably the fact that it's strictly lecture. Which is the be expected since it's a lecture class, but I feel like the occasional in-class activity would have helped.
Professor Turner is very passionate and knowledgeable, and she jokes around a lot. If you're like me and hate history classes, though, this class will be insufferable because she lectures nonstop and you barely ever interact with anyone. On the bright side, the workload is light. Class was virtual (COVID), so that made it a million times easier.
Professor Turner mostly lectures, which sucks. The plus side is she really loves what she's talking about so that makes it entertaining. I have historically hated history and actually really enjoyed this class! Most of the hw is reading but I just took notes in class instead and used the book as supplement and it worked pretty well.
She is the worst Professor to take, SCAD NEEDS REMOVE HER, She has no basic knowledge and understanding towards mainly freshman international student. In all honestly I feel that she was racist, rude, bias. She didn't even respact the disability I have. Please don't take her. If she fails, report her to ombudsman, so she can be remove.
