Even though it may be her first year teaching, she does not understand nor accept criticism, does not answer "questions you could look up online", and she just in general isn't fair when it comes to grading. She says that lecture questions are for participation, but will often give partial credit because she "expects you to know this" beforehand.
I emailed her asking if she could talk about the application of the book concepts in class rather than going over everything in the book word for word and she sent me back a mean email that said "students don't learn from examples". She only discusses the textbook in lecture, unorganized, and she doesn't accommodate for different learning styles.
I think that Rebecka has a lot of potential. She just needs to decrease the amount of word for word regurgitation from the book. It was like she was burning our money as we watched her write pointless paragraphs for notes. She should do more examples, and use the clicker questions during the lecture to make the class dynamic.
212 is much harder than 211. Idk if Rebecka taught 212 before, but you might have guessed not. She's new to osu. Time wasn't always well spent during lectures, sometimes very unorganized. However, Rebecka can be great at relaying info and is fun to listen to. Lots of online hw. Covers all new material in lecture. I respect her, she's very practical
Tumblin is accessible outside of class, her expectations are clear, and her lectures incredibly worthwhile. As long as you do the textbook readings, attend lecture, and do the written/online homework problems you should do okay in this class. Her exams are fair and it is clear she puts effort into teaching. Best physics professor I've had yet!
She' rude. don't take her
PH 213 is definitely harder than the rest of the physics series. I'm taking this class during the online quarter because of COVID and she's been fairly understanding and has adjusted the class well. She responds well to class problems and cares about students actually learning the material. The class is hard but 10/10 would take it again with her.
One of the more rude professors at Oregon State.
In a class with at least 3 3-chapter readings with questions, 2 forms of practice problems (one online and one written), a 3 hour mandatory lab, and a weekly quiz, only 2 types of assignments are accepted late, with a 50% deduction and only late within 24H: the chapter readings and the online practice problems. You have to buy MyLab.
she is clearly passionate about her work and it is admirable, but when it comes to grading, I feel like she cares as much about the format of your work as correct answer and the showing of your work, which makes her an unfairly tough grader.
I understand teaching during remote learning is a difficult experience, but she has given this class the most demanding, confusing and unaccommodating delivery I have ever seen (I've taken 3 terms online so far), out of my whole college experience so far this is the only class I truly regret not switching instructors.
Though PH 213 is a difficult course, I think that the accessibility of the instructor and the relevant examples that she went through during lectures helped significantly. After attending the lectures and doing the reading, the homework and exams were reasonable and applied concepts that we had discussed thoroughly in class.
As a girl in STEM, I certainly respect an intelligent woman in a male-dominated field. However, Professor Tumblin is not my favorite. She tries her best to explain how to do problems but I feel like I have to teach myself almost everything. I'm not at all comfortable speaking with her outside of class so thank goodness she has TA's.
Don't take a physics class with her unless you want to be only taught by the book. Everything she goes over in class is directly out of the book with little further explanation. Lab instructors provide no further instruction either. If it was me, I think I would have learned and understood the content more just taking the Ecampus class.
Possibly the worst professor at Oregon State. Teaches it like it's the only class you are taking. You are better off with ANYONE else
She foregoes the midterm and final exams for weekly quizzes that greatly reduce stress. On top of that, she gives a lot of homework, all of which is easy. If you are submitting it and going through, you should have no problem in the class. If you are struggling with anything, she and her TAs are always available to help.
Physics is hard. Professor Tumblin does her best to teach the material and is more than receptive to feedback and open to help. She cares. If you are struggling email her and go to her office hours so you can learn the material. I promise if you talk to her she will help you learn the material and give you generous hints about quizzes and homework.
Strict about deadlines, but genuinely cares about students and is open and willing to change based on feedback. Open to questions during lectures and fosters a safe environment for students to learn. I hated her classes for a few weeks of PH211, but after she incorporated student feedback her class is my favorite. Also zoom-competent.
Professor Tumblin is incredibly unreasonable with expectations. She provides a poor grading scale that holds way more value on you needing to learn on your own than necessary. Nearly all lectures are dumbed down versions of the textbook, and teaches behind pace of what she expects. She provides lots of TAs which are critical as she does not teach.
A very poorly organized professor. She once said "if you feel at all sick STAY AT HOME". She then followed that statement by saying "If you miss the midterm for whatever reason you will have to retake the class". lol.
Does not have an understanding of physics what so ever. By that, I mean the only thing she knows how to do is apply calculus equations to the problems with no explanation of where shes getting them. 10/10 would not recommend her. Her combination of teaching style and blatant rudeness towards students is unacceptable.
Tumblin is a good and fair professor, I'm not sure why her rating is so low. Just pay attention in lecture and don't skip class. Homework grading can be annoying but the tests are surprisingly straightforward.
I was disappointed by Dr. Tumblin, as physics is one of my favourite subjects and I respected her history with LANL. There were no visuals for simple concepts. She went through her slides way too fast and with little explanation, and the rest of class was going through textbook problems, which she copied directly from her notes. Do better OSU.
Teaching style works for me. Lots of examples in lecture. My only problem is the examples are too dumbed down compared to the questions on homework and tests which makes it harder to translate the in class examples to real questions. Lecture slides are useful and easy to follow along. Her class is naturally hard but somewhat enjoyable.
Exams are worth 50% of the grade. You arent even given enough time to finish the exams. Terrible lectures, didnt learn anything and failed. Do not take this class with Rebecca.
Very rude to students and not understanding about sickness, mental health, or family issues. When everyone does bad on tests she blames the students instead of stepping back to wonder why the test grades are so low. Sets up her students for failure as she has actually vocalized in class about how her course will make most students fail.
Sent an email saying she was Astonished how more than half the people couldnt understand something and didnt take a moment to think maybe Im not teaching this right and I kid you not said most physics professor design the test so you cant finish , basically youre not gonna pass or barely.
It's a tough subject, and she tries her best to teach with an already full plate. Maybe a little bit less audacious attitude around the majority of her class doing poorly would be nice, but what can you do. Midterms and Final were way more difficult than the homeworks, and we barely had enough time to finish each test. I ran out of time twice.
unapproachable, i dont feel comfortable emailing her anymore because of how she responded to a few i had sent her. i had a whole huge list of questions and she basically said no im not gonna answer them. bad. if i fail 212 im gonna take again with a different prof, even if i pass im not gonna take 213 with her, ill just wait till next year
Horrible lectures but good office hours
I was disappointed by the lack of enthusiasm and missed physics concept displays. Make sure you do the mastering & w/ the written on tests go through all the steps in detail even if you don't know how to do it. Chegg will f you over if you rely on it. She is much nicer in office hours so take advantage of that. Jose is the best TA. Some TAs suck.
Luckily this term of physics was one that I already previously was familiar with. That was the only reason I succeeded well. She would sometimes make mistakes during lecture and spend an entire 50 minutes doing a physics problem that was simple and she explained in a much more complex and unnecessary way.
This course was more difficult than 211 and I rarely attended lectures because she would spend way too long on one example and not cover enough material to fully understand all the scenarios. What I should have done was to attend lectures but bring other homework as this class had 2 large homeworks due every week and 3 pre-lectures every week.
This class is a lot. She bases so much of the course work on astrophysics because that is what her doctorate is in. As a result, if you do not already understand astrophysics/ like astrophysics, you WILL struggle. There is no opportunity for grace in her class, and she will not teach you how to solve the problems you see on exams
Lots of weekly homework and textbook reading before every class. Class is mostly working through practice problems but pay attention because those problems are frequently on the midterms/final. I had to teach myself most of the class from the textbook but she and the TAs are very helpful during office hours. It is a lot of work but I learned well.
This professor is actually the worst professor I have ever had. She lies about her effort on making her homework and is generally full of shit. I havent hated a professor more in my life. She seems nice but just isnt.
There was a constant lag behind compared to other 211 courses with other professors. When the final was reached, people reported her class to be 4 periods behind Wagner's section. She also gave many incorrect formulas and did not address mistakes on exams that ate up up to 20 minutes of people's time during the 80 minute exams
Dr. Rebecka is definitely passionate about physics, but her lectures are basically just her repeating the textbook from which she assigns a ton of reading. She isn't very receptive to questions, and although she has lots of office hours they are really run by TAs.
LOTS of homework but it is doable if you have a good study group. I fully learned from the textbooks and feel like I didn't need to go to lecture but had to due to attendance questions. The TA's are very helpful and if you ask you will get help. 100% tough class but if you put in the work you will get a good understanding of the material.
Incorrect formulas and in depth explanations of pointless topics. Lectures are at least a class period or two behind other sections. If there is another teacher as an option, choose them.
Rebecka Tumblin teaching style is the worst I have seen for a physics class. I feel as if I am taking a math class instead of physics. All she does in lecture is explain proofs. It is a costly class with mastering physics and learning catalytics being two items you have to purchase, 80$, to take the class. I would not Recommend her for any class.
This professor in the 21X series has been a nightmare. She will rarely ever use well written questions, and lectures have provided 0 help. She gets behind the curriculum compared to every other professor in this series. DO NOT take if there is another option. She teaches past her scheduled time and gets mad at the class for it.
The amount of homework for solving proofs is absurd. She does not teach. She is one of the only physics teachers to make you spend money. Nothing ever positive comes out of her lecture. Avoid her at all cost.
The hilarious tag is given because the state of the lectures by the end of this series rivals the Trump administration. That's not to say she doesn't try, but the class quickly devolved into an amalgamation of in-class activities from previous lectures and terms that aren't relevant anymore. Everyone is sweating from the awful room and very bored.
Extremely hard homework nothing like what you do in class, long exams worth majority of your grade with not enough time to finish.
Lectures are always at least a week behind, tests and homework are way harder than anything taught in class. Had her for entire physics series and hated every minute of it.
This teacher gives way to much homework. The first midterm was the most difficult test I have ever taken. She fills her lecture slides full of filler information that takes away from the actual point. Not only have I learned the least of any physics class but I have spent double the time doing assignments than in my previous physics classes.
Wagner's tests had problems that you would work on in class and the homeworks, Tumblin's tests are very conceptual and half of them are problems that aren't something you've ever seen before. They are way too long to finish in 80 minutes, and are impossible to fully prepare yourself for, the first midterm average was a 63. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Midterm had an average of 63% with no curve. Had almost 100% in the class pre-test. 3 tests are worth 50% of your overall grade. Homework is difficult with no real connection to the lectures. One problem a week is 15% of the grade. She came to class with COVID this week after teaching virtually for a week. Only saving grace is TA office hours.
Teaching style is not teaching at all... like literally teaching nothing. We barely do examples in class (mostly her deriving equations in the textbook) and the only way to get through the HW is by spending hours and hours in office hours. She doesn't teach any of the tools necessary for students to be successful on exams and homework assignments.
Large amounts of homework even on exam weeks using software that often doesn't give feedback and lies to students about how much time they'll have to complete assignments.
Not much to say other than that she is absolutely horrendous and oblivious to the trends going on in her own classroom.
You don't even need an extra description she is actively just making the class go into the dirt.
This professor doesn't show up to midterms and gets mad at students. First midterm didn't have a single grade above 95%, and the tests are way too long to be done in a reasonable fashion. unreasonable professor who does not deserve their title
50% of the grade is dependent on 3 tests. 2 of which were 16 pages long and expected to finish in 80 minutes. Never, never, never take this womans class.
she actually wants you to learn the material, she gives you all the tools needed to succeed, it's just up to you to do your part to learn it .hard material to learn its not going to be a cakewalk, be prepared to spend some time to understand the material, she also has tons of office hours that has plenty TAs to help you understand the material.
Dr R teaches physics with an emphasis on developing problem solving skills over recitation of particular material. She gives students the needed information and examples to be successful in lecture. Her office hours and amazing TAs are great resources. Physics is hard, so as a student you need to work to understand it just like any other subject.
Professor does not set up her class in a way that benefits students. The lectures are largely unhelpful and do not teach the material. Most of the lecture is spent deriving equations for a given situation, which are often taken directly from the textbook. The homework is time-consuming and does not properly reinforce course concepts.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH DR. TUMBLIN. First things first, AVOID her classes as much as possible. She gives waaayyy too much homework and is difficult to do on your own. The only way I passed was with going to office hours and learning from the TA's. Tests are always at least 15 pages long and you are not given enough time to complete them.
Rebecka has unrealistic expectations of her class. She essentially drops you off a cliff based on the knowledge she gives you in order to complete homework or do well on tests.
I really like Dr. Tumblin. She has a lot of office hours where she is very approachable and willing to help on the homework. Her tests are difficult but something that literally every review here is failing to mention is that she offers test corrections so you can get points back. She is actually really nice and super knowledgeable.
Crazy amount of homework. I'd suggest reading the textbook (which is required for the hw and is expensive) because lectures are a bit disorganized and often are behind schedule. The practice problems in class are way easier than the hw/exams so be prepared. There's a really cool website called Studysmarter I'd suggest to check out when doing hw.
She's DIFFICULT and assigns almost entirely too much work, but if you work with people it's SIGNIFICANTLY easier. She goes through things that are almost exactly going to be on the test, and if you don't keep up, you will fall behind. BUT, if you reach out to her and make the effort, she will do everything she can to help you improve and pass.
Tumblin needs to ditch the MyLab and Mastering hw. Quite a few times in lecture, she would give us a story about how she hated doing MyLab as an undergrad, yet she STILL continues to use it! To me, it just seems a bit like a lazy approach. Other physics teachers homework were more fun to do because the content was familiar and relatable.
She is rude. Yells at her students and treats them like kindergarteners. Attendance is mandatory but was only worth 5%. The exams are difficult and often were on topics that weren't discussed much in class.
Professor Tumblin expects students to 99% of the learning outside of class through textbooks and videos, then requires us to finish that 1% through mandatory in-class participation via a website. Labs are unnecessarily long, incredibly simple, and so unbelievably tedious. Homework is 1 question, with part 20 sub-parts, followed by an essay. RUN
Don't take this class by any means.
Lectures are mandatory, but cover the exact same material as the readings/pre lecture activities. I agree with another review that labs are simple, tedious, and too long. Written homework problems were typically alright, but the essay portion afterwards felt pointless. Often made things more confusing when answering questions. Not awful, but meh.
Tests are very difficult. At times rude during lecture, losing her temper in front of the students. Mandatory attendance is ridiculous for a college class.
To be honest her class wasn't terrible, however her lectures were horrible. It seemed like she tried her best to make easy concepts as difficult as possible. The attendance system made it hard to take notes and everything in lecture was extremely superficial. The textbook was expensive and did a poor job at outsourcing her work. I liked her WHW's
She screams all the time during the lecture. Make sure to sit at a seat far from her.
Worst professor I've ever had. The written Homeworks are unnecessarily difficult and vaguely relate to the topics covered in lecture. She teaches the lectures as if we already know the material and does a terrible job explaining/showing new topics. Started going to Shearer's lectures instead and all the topics were much easier to comprehend.
Good professor. There are online and written homeworks due every week. The homework is available all week and there is the expectation that you will work on it over said week. But almost without fail, she would only explain necessary information for the homework on the very day it was due. So to do it any sooner you have to teach it to yourself.
This class is very hard, you bounce around a lot of topics. Prepare for some very hard tests and long homework. Dr.Tumblin as a professor is a decent instructor for this course. But if the average is failing for the class, then something needs to be done to the course to change it. Prepare to work hard. Go to office hours if you want to succeed.
She's annoyingly loud, dropped her class a couple terms ago bc her voice. I have grant sherer this term and I just came to say the LIPA text is horrible and has a lot of errors I haven't learned a thing from it, the activity questions are often not explained in the text. Should have more practice problems and descriptive info.
Dr. Rebecka is a good professor. Her exams can be really rough - if you're getting into 212 just know you'll get through it :> She offers exam corrections, which have saved my grade this entire year, she also has regular office hours and can be reached outside of class, and genuinely does want you to succeed.
Tests and homework assignments are hard. The written homework which is due weekly is basically never taught in lecture and if it is it is on the day that homework is due. It is also graded on correctness, and basically no TAs in the wormhole know how to do it either.
Oregon states physics department is terrible. Professor T tries her hardest but the program is not good. You need to receive a 50% or above on all tests to pass the class. Passing the class is not hard to do, you just have to put work in. Getting an A or a B is difficult as the material on the tests does not directly line up with the lectures.
She was a good lecturer but not very helpful about anything else. Homework was rarely taught in time in lectures and tests were very hard and worth 50%
This class is what you make of it. If you never ask for help, don't go office hours, etc, yes this class will be terrible. But if you show up and work at it, Tumblin makes this class more than doable. I went in with no physics knowledge at all and left with a great grade and new respect for physics.
Tumblin did a fairly decent job at conveying the necessary concepts. The only criticism I might have is she spent a lot of lecture time deriving equations instead of giving a wider variety of examples. Aside from that, it's just a hard class and she did pretty well.
Dr. Tumblin is very passionate about physics but the course itself is unnecessarily tedious and difficult. The exams are your entire grade and 20+ pages. The homework's are very challenging, prepare to read the textbook extensively. Lectures can get confusing and sidetracked quick. Dr. Tumblin is a nice lady but avoid this course.
Lectures while mandatory do not cover what you will see on homework or on tests. The textbook is the only source of up-to-date information regarding homework yet she gives extremely long exams that take most of the allotted time no matter your level of understanding. The test equation sheet will not provide much help given the time constraints.
Rebecka Tumblin's grading system is so inconsistent she would fail her own class. Two weeks behind what we go over in class and in lecture. Just does the same things every lecture poorly. Hard to understand. Answers on her homework are wrong. Goes over homework content at the last minute. She has an attitude and can't ask her questions in lecture..
Tumblin is an alright teacher. Her grading tends to be very inconsistent. I would get marked down for very random little things. If you have taken Vector Calc already, this class is pretty easy. Her lectures are very surface level compared to the tests and homework. One thing I do appreciate is she is very communicative with canvas announcements.
PH 211 is fairly simple, though I can see why she can be a problem in 212 and 213. She is loud, makes things unclear and inconsistent, and did not handle the strike very well with her bad temper. However, she pulls a lot of questions from lecture into the written homework (albeit last minute) and into exams. She also offers exam corrections.
If you are able to take this course along with PH212 and PH213 at LBCC you definetly should. Rebecka is one of my worst professors I have had since coming to OSU and she makes me hates physics with a passion. She is loud and treats the class like highschoolers and demands for you to listen to her until the class ends. AVOID IF YOU CAN!
Insanely harsh grader. After one test, my grade dropped from 96 to 73. On written homework, I spelled something wrong and got 2 points taken. The graders look for anything to take away. ANYTHING. GOOD LUCK.
I found this class to be pretty easy, with a terrible format. I fault the program, not Dr. Tumblin. She is very knowledgeable about physics, but gives explanations that are overly complicated for the material. Getting a physical understanding of the content is key. She rarely does this, so you have to on your own. She is very nice, grades very hard
Dr.R was the worst professor I ever had. She does not respect students at all. Asking her questions is hard as she replies in a snarky way which makes her unapproachable. Homework is very difficult and there is double what other physics professors give. Tests include topics never touched on in class and are very difficult. Avoid at all costs.
This was by far the worst class I have ever taken. If I could give Rebecka Tumblin a 0, I would. It was taught horribly, the exams were difficult and had obscure questions, and the labs were completely unrelated to what was being taught in class it might as well have been its own class. TAKE PHYSICS AT LINN-BENTON IT IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!
She gets too much hate, the class is difficult and therefore requires some amount of time outside of class to fully understand everything that is going on, so anyone rating her low just has not put in that work. She explains topics well assuming you have the base understanding from the reading, and goes through a lot of examples in lectures.
Tumblin doesn't make practice exams and then puts problems on the tests significantly more complicated than anything from the homeworks or recitations.
We will often be behind in lecture and learn the stuff we needed for that week's homework the week after. The written homework and mastering take so much time to complete, but they do help you learn. The tests take the material from the written homework and put it in the most ridiculous and difficult context ever.
I'd like to say I'm a pretty math oriented person and when I came into PH 211, I came in with confidence. I was extremely mistaken. Grading is super strict and harsh. She doesn't like working with students. She's rude, sarcastic, and incredibly hard to follow in lectures. If I could, I wouldn't ever take a class with her again. Not a good teacher.
Always been a STEM person and A student. Anyone will tell you that the physics department is challenging but Dr. Tumblin makes it extra hard. Lots of homework, you will never get 100% on an assignment they will find a way to take points. Exams are unrelated from lecture material making them extremely difficult. She can be sarcastic/rude.
Did maybe 10% of teaching what was needed to know for homework labs etc. Went over "physical assumptions" for problems in class, and did NO relevant examples. Super unhelpful and frustrating professor. TAs did all the work, and where I learned. Very piercing voice, screaming nonsense into the mic.
5 Homework assignments per week, 80 minute exams are 15 pages long and are often unrelated to lecture material or study guides, labs are needlessly tedious and lengthy despite covering very simple concepts or physical situations. Professor Tumblin will demand your respect yet offer none herself, take this series at LBCC.
The class is very hard but not because of Tumblin. She is clear during lectures, passionate and makes learning physics easier. Lots of Office Hours with TAs and her. Very easy to get 100% in the written homework and online homework. STUDY FOR THE MIDTERMS AND FINAL. They will basically make or break your grade.
The best way I can summarize my experience is in 2 anecdotes: 1) She intentionally chose the more difficult long problem for an exam even though none of the TAs solved it first try 2) Grad students had to asked her to change a week of hw due to the *grad students* taking 3 hrs on it. This being said be prepared to learn more from prelects than her
I think she is rated way to harshly, she's very understanding if you come into her office hours. She will give extensions on almost anything if you give a valid reason. The big thing in her class in making sure you do the pre-lectures instead of just cheating through them.
Likes to put problems we've "seen" before in class or on homework in exams but makes the problems difficult to understand and we never practice solving problems like that in class or on homework's. Written homework is difficult, so I'd say start early, but often you're not taught the homework content until Wednesday or Friday (due on fridays).
She receives way too much hate. Genuinely a caring and kind person who wants her students to succeed. The course is difficult, but not because she makes it difficult. The course requires you to actually engage with ALL the material to do well. I am not a math/physics person at all, but I found this class manageable with Dr. Tumblin.
Rude and condescending. Spends long time on simple topics and then will brush over complex concepts so that it's impossible to grasp. When emailing her about if an assignment is worth a grade she emailed me back with, "I am confused as to why students will only do assignments if there are points."
Prof Tumblin teaches difficult courses but makes it very enjoyable. She did multiple presentations of physics concepts with lasers, ramps, and wheels. People that are giving her a 1/5 need to realize she's teaching a college physics course. It's not easy. Overall she is kind respectful and makes the course engaging and fun.
She does an excellent job of caring for and being available for her students. She will even alter course guidelines during the term if necessary based on student feedback. The homework load isn't bad, but you need to put in the effort. If you don't understand something, get help for it. It won't get easier. The tests will make or break your grade.
Rebecka is very hot-headed and condescending. She is unhelpful and rude in emails as well as office hours. The overall class structure is good but tests and homework are difficult and will take a lot of time and effort. unless you decide to become her best friend she will get on your nerves and ruin your day. Teaching should not be her profession
Its not physics, its her. I retook this class with a different professor and understood it MULTITUDES better. Physics is hard but its way harder with Rebecka.
Super hot-headed. Rude. Not caring towards students. Yells in class every other lecture. Embarrasses students in front of whole class. If you ask a question, be prepared to have a phd I physics or she will embarrass you until no end. Won't handle issues within her course instead “looks at statistics” and doesn't change anything. STAY AWAY!
She be mad as hell and I'm just tryna do the FBD. She once yelled at us and then walked it back which was appreciated. Maybe bring earplugs bc her voice be piercing. TA's are much more helpful, she doesn't do any relevant examples and then gets mad at us for not understanding....
Do not be scared of this class - prep for it. This is a difficult class that turns you into an entry level scientist. Of course it is hard. Those who give this hardworking and caring woman a 1/5 are actual buffoons who chat every answer and don't want to work hard. Enjoy school. Enjoy learning. Make the most out of it. You will like Dr. T.
This is not an easy class, but if you do the work you will be fine. The professor is not going to hold your hand through it, but if you do the work and are respectful, you'll receive respect back. The tests are challenging, but shouldn't be a surprise. If you pay attention to the lecture questions and the written homework you will do well enough.
SERIOUSLY RUN. WOULD YELL EVERYDAY AND TREAT US LIKE WE'RE IN HIGH SCHOOL. RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN.
I got a pretty consistent grade of a C+ in this entire series, it is hard, but not because of Tumblin. She is great, the people who have complaints I think have complaints with the physics department. She is fair, and she would only ever get frustrated when people were talking in class (which is fair, don't show up if you're gonna do that).
Tumblin gets a lot of hate but I found her to be a great prof. Physics is hard, its going to be a hard class. I had to read the textbook and study to get a good grade, but I came out on the other end confident in my physics knowledge. She offers test corrections and other opportunities to boost your grade depending on how the term is going.
Professor Tumblin runs the most counterintuitive class I have ever taken. Not only does she assign chapter readings every day, but she routinely teaches entirely counter to the book. This comes to fruition during exams, when we are expected to use relations and formulas that aren't covered in the textbook. If you can't read minds, you will fail.
If you want to be treated like you are in middle school again, she is your best bet. You basically gotta wait for a bell to ring before getting up, even though we are adults who can leave whenever we want. Half of the tests we learned, the other half was never taught, nor in the readings. It's not the physics department, it's the professor.
Honestly, I don't understand the beef a lot of people had with her, she was a good professor who seemed to care about her students. The pre-lecture assignments cluttered the gradebook but the only difficult thing about this course was the sheer quantity of little assignments that add up towards your final grade.
Rebecca Tumblin is an AMAZING professor. Her lectures are super helpful and will help you with the exams and homework. Office hours are also really great and she gives a lot of extra credit.
She's a decent professor. Wouldn't reccomend her though. Lots of busy work assignments, although she is very clear about what you will need to study and do if you want to succeed in the course. It's a lot for a relatively easy course. Written homework and exams are graded rather harshly, unless it's absolutely perfect.
