Very good Teacher. Very helpful and polite
Great teacher! Very helpful. Very cute
I don't have a great interest in English, but I learned a lot from Rebekah and she was extremely helpful. Although I am female, and do not have same sex inclinations...this lady is cute! She's a doll!
Horrible teacher.. Someone needs to tell her daddy. Assignments were graded according to her interpretation, not a textbook standard. If she disliked your opinion or you, your grades showed it.
Took her class during Summer I and she was extremely helpful. She responds quickly to questions asked via e-mail. She has you work in groups often and gives fair feedback concerning your interpretations of the literature. Read all of the literature assignments as well as footnotes and you shouldn't have a problem in her class. And yes she is cute
Good class. If you fail its because you did not try.
yah she sucks
Not an easy A. She gives quizzes every day just about, and they are a huge weight of your grade. She is rude, and grades according to her own standards not textbook. I have made an A in every English class I have ever taken... I made a C in hers...You might want to try Wooldridge, she is awesome
Great Teacher. I thought she was very fair and was always there willing to help. If you are looking for a class that is easy and requires no work this is not the class. If you are looking to learn then this is the class
Does not explain exactly how she wants the papers. Too much reading. If she would explain things a little better then she would be good. Not very challenging, but she can give you a hard time.
This teacher will do anything to help you out. She is great!
Good professor. Fairly high expectations but totally fair. Enjoyed her class.
Was a little nervous when I went into this class because of what people said, but I really enjoyed this class. Too many writing assignments, I think that should have been kept for a comp class, but she was helpfull and nice.
Ms. Clinkscale is a great professor. She really knows the material very well. Class was never boring, because she brings a lot of positive energy to class(she's good looking too!). Read the stories before class because the quizzes are pretty difficult. 3 unit exams have mc and in class essays. An A may be difficult to achieve but it CAN be done!
worst teacher I have ever had, her expectations are in the clouds, I have always gotten As and a couple Bs but I got a low C in her class even though I worked very hard, save yourself the pain in the backside
wow hard teacher, smart but do not take her class unless you want a challenge. Also she dosent seem to understand that not everybody loves to go home and read 1800s literature all night.
She is a perfectionist.
wow this teacher is no fun at all, save yourself the trouble and harsh grading, she expects too much and she thinks shes at harvard or something
This professor is not helpful and grades very harshly on essays no matter what you do. Definitely avoid her and take neither Shannon Smith or Lindsey Davis for Comp One.
wow do not take her unless you think that college is too easy and you want a major challenge. getting a good grade in her class is pretty much a full time job...
Willing to help you, but she grading essay harshly, its hard to get an A.
very nice lady. very fair, willing to help. Gave us option of doing rewrite for a higher grade on two of four required essays, also dropped the two lowest quiz grades. Gave one easy option for extra credit. (replaced lowest quiz grade with a 100) you do actually have to do assigned reading and journals (NOT hard).I made an A, I highly recommend
dont take her unless you have to, seriously
terrible class, the material was very dull and she did nothing to make it interesting or fun at all, this class was the worst of my semester, try to take someone else if you can
Ms. Clinkscale is a great teacher. If you show interest in the material and are invested in getting a good grade, she will help you create better a better paper, but will not just give you the grade that you want!
Don't take her class if u just graduated from high school pls.
She is a great teacher. She was the first college proffessor I have had and I loved her. She is very clear on what she wants and she help you really grow in your english skills. By the end of this course you will be prepared for comp 2
Please don't take her if you just graduated from high school and you're known as a poor writer! I took her class in Fall 2007 and man she gave hell when it came down to essays. Was never satisfied with anything I write as I've been a poor writer throughout my school years! I always put significant effort on my work but still didn't work out for me!
Ms. Clinkscale was awesome! She is always willing to help with your paper and gives you many opportunities for feedback and will always correct it for you! Learned so much in this class i highly recommend it.
she was the worst teacher ever! you have exams that are only four question and its short essay and if you missed two you automatically failed the exam. do not take her!!!!!!!!!!
awful
she is a very nice prof but she is extremely hard! she will help you out with anything that you need but you have to be willing to put everything you have into that class.
Awful!
Rebekah Clinkscale is a challenging, albeit enjoyable teacher. Grades are accumulated via several major tests and papers. The tests are composed almost exclusively of reading material. Papers are graded rather critically, however, this is extremely helpful if you're interested in English. Overall, good teacher, and a cute one to boot.
Do not take. She makes this class much harder than it needs to be.
The way she grades is fiairly non-understandable to any student I know the only way i would adivise someone to take her class is ifyou are a pro at writing paper after paper and dont expect for a test to be multiple choice, we are talking test that you have to write 4 or 5 paragraphs for each 8-12 sentences...just not fun atall
I find this Prof. to have a great sense of humor, she is very helpful-but it is a very challenging course. So be prepared to read and write, period!
This is a challeging class, though she is a helpful prof. she has very high expectations and if you don't read or write...get use to it in here!
omg i took the online child lit class and i wanted to drop it!!!
very nice teacher
I'm still in the process of taking her class. If you study, take notes, read, and show up to class, you shouldn't have trouble passing. She is very clear on her instuctions and always answers to e-mails at a timely manner. It is a very fun class!
She's one of the best English teachers I've ever had. She is very clear and concise and she always seems to be interested in what she's lecturing about. As long as you pay attention and show up to class you will do well! It's a little challenging but it's sooooo worth it!
She has high expectations for students' work, but she makes those expectations clear, and she works with students one-on-one to help with erotic assignments. The quizzes and final exam are simple, so you can overcome a low grade on a writing assignment.
I tried to get help from this teacher and so did other students in my class and she is NOT helpful and is a VERY no caring professor, and its teachers like this that makes kids drop out. I DID NOT LIKE HER OR THE WAY SHE TEACHES OR THE FACT HOW CRUEL SHE IS IN A NICE WAY. I regret having her as my professor!
I took Ms. Clinkscale in the spring of 2010. She is an awesome teacher if you are really here to learn. If you are looking for a teacher that is easy and just gives grades, then she is not for you. However for those of us who actually want education for our $$$ then take her. I can still tell you everything she taught in her class. Love her!!
By reading a few of the comments it seems that some of you really do need help in English. Ms.C is a great and helpful prof. she does require alot of work, but all of it is throughly explained and for a great purpose. In the end, you will acquire a whole new level of reading and writing skills to prepare you for the rest of college. I am grateful!
I had Prof. Clinkscale online. There was a lot of writing (which I love) and she could be a tough grader. But if you do the work and follow her guidelines, you'll be fine! I'd recommend her.
I take this prof online. It takes her wayyyyyy t long to grade an assignment. So what if she has a lot of other classes. If she can't handle the workload then she shoudn't teach so many. We have been waiting for 2+ weeks to receive a grade for 1 paper. Her assignments are not difficult, but I just hate how long it takes her to grade and respond.
Great professor, difficult grader but she prides herself on teaching and that's what I paid for. Would take her again if needed in a heart beat.
Prof. Clinkscale knows a ton about english and you can tell she is really passionate about it. However, she can be very rude and snobbish if you are struggling in the subject, like I was. I gave an honest effort in her class, but she did not seem interested in helping me become more knowledgeable in english but looked down her nose and gave me a D
I took her class online and I hated it. I wasn't good at writing in the first place and she made me feel even worse. She told me I was lucky to receive a B on the first paper because she never gives Bs on the first paper. I followed the guidelines and my grades kept getting lower. She never helped me understand what I was doing wrong.
I admit, I may have had a bit of a head start on every other student except one, but this was no easy A. Ms. C was very helpful. She helped me to make sense of the ideas floating around in my head before they hit the page. She helped me whittle down my wordiness to a place where I wouldn't lose my readers, and she helped every time I asked. Great!!
I don't know why everyone's insisting this class was difficult. I took this back when I was 16 and easily got myself ranked second in the class with a 98 (there was a lady that had a 99). I'm definitely no super genius, as my 70 in government and economics can attest. To be honest, though, I do agree that she appeared a bit snobbish and arrogant
Tough grader on essays. Fair though. Lots of reading. tests are a easy if you study. Very helpful and structured. Detailed on what she wants out of you. If you want an elementary class take a different prof. but if you want to learn how to be a better writer take Clinkscale. She's amazing! OH yeah-- quit whining and grow up! IT'S COLLEGE!!!!!!!!!
This teacher is an arrogant snob. She thinks she is better than everyone and teaches that way too. She grades everything very hard and is very rude. She will give you little to no feedback and claims spell check is wrong on certain words. I cannot wait to leave her class.AWFUL!
Skip this online class unless you can mindread. Class included 1 quiz, 2 discussion boards, 2 3-paragraph and 2-5paragraph essays, and a final exam. Assignments were: reading the textbook and instructions on what to write about. There is no feedback on her grading [right or wrong]. This has been more information than she gives you. Run away!
She takes forever to grade assignments. She provides no supplemental material and just has you read the book and then write a few essays. She seems inexperienced and to be a young professor. She does not prepare anything just tells you to read the book. Worst class I ever took.
Ms. C. is a great teacher. She grades hard and thoroughly, but she lets you know what she expects ahead of time. She knows her stuff. Not once did she come off at condescending or rude. And she's kinda cute too.
Grades hard, good insight and honestly tries to make you a better writer. Takes a while to grade but reading a bunch of papers and providing feedback takes time.
Absolutely wonderful. The first class we had I knew she was a great teacher. She is very clear with what to read. You should read to make good grades on quizzes and tests but she won't call on you to answer a question, so if you want to discuss the story, raise your hand. I highly suggest taking her.
I took this class ONLINE over the summer while I was still in high school. The whole reason I took this class because it was ONLINE and I was going to be traveling and wouldn't be able to be on campus. I was not allowed to take the final exam online as I had thought, so I barely passed the class with a C when I should have earned at least a high B.
This teacher was by far the most determined to find fault with papers. Other students had also commented on her overly demanding critiques. You will not make an A in this class. Even teachers commented, " Good luck with that!". That's how "good" she was. I wouldn't choose her, or her spouse also. Same reason.
Mrs. Clinkscale is a bit of a grammar Nazi as she herself will admit but if you go and actually see her in her office with your paper she will help.. I went from a C on my first paper to a A with her help.. I made a A in class and though she is hard you can tell she really loves English and if you try hard you will do fine..
Do not take this professor, very difficult grading scale for assignments and not open to positive feedback on papers. Be prepared to be self-educated!! Prays are a must to at least average a C in the class.
I have no interest in English and I hate writing papers. After I got serious about the class I went from a "F" to a "B" within th last half of the semester. How? Read the material! It was actually interesing. ALWAYS DO YOUR PAPERS A WEEK EARLY AND MEET WITH HER DURING OFFICE HOURS SO SHE CAN REVISE YOUR PAPER PERSONALLY. EASY A OR B.
Great teacher, lots of enthusiasm, and will help if ask and go to office hours. All these poeple talking about she is hard and blah blah blah are wrong, she is what every other teacher should be like. Fair grading, and very clear on instructions.
Mostly the class is fun, but I didn't understand the online instructions for her essays, and they are sooo lengthy! If you go to the writing center, it helps because they tell you what she means in easy words. Don't try doing a paper on your own without the writing center's help if you want a good grade. Journals 2 points, essays 100. big gap
Ms.Clinkscale is an amazing professor .Honestly if you get a bad grade in her class then you did not exhaust every avenue possible. The writing lab helps because they can tell you if your meeting her requirements for you paper. Also go talk to her during her office hours, take your paper and or other ideas.IT WORKS These steps plus Journals equals A+
Take her. Very helpful. She can create time to read through your papers and point out any corrections.Be ready for pop up quiz after a reading assignment. A lot of extra credit work to boost your grade.
She is an expert in English. However, she shows almost no interest in trying to generate/nurture a genuine curiosity about english. She can come across as very judgmental which made it hard for me to be comfortable asking questions and making mistakes in her class.
I worked hard on my essays even got help at the writing center and I still got a grade of 60-67 in ALL my essays its like my work wasn't good enough
Tests and quizes are super easy, must be a good writer or you will fail the writing assignments
I did very well on everything but her papers. I even went to the writing lab and they would say it was perfect, but I would continue to receive low grades on it. Do not take her for this class. I am going to have to re-take it because she didn't grade papers fairly.
She is a wonderful teacher, you just have to make sure you're ready to work. I will admit, I failed my first semester, but the second time around, I did very well. You must, take writing papers seriously, if not, you WILL FAIL! If you need the help, she's more than open to helping you during her off hours.
Shouldn't be teaching at TCC. If you aren't good at writing... Do not take her class. She maybe helpful but her class is hard. Average paper is considered to be a C- in her grading. Worked very hard and still made C's on papers. Sweet lady but her teaching is rough so if your not ready for a rough class go choose someone different.
I enjoyed her class but she's not a cakewalk. I love reading and writing doesn't freak me out. I would not recommend her if you don't feel comfortable in your writing because the essays are a considerable portion of your grade.
Ridiculous!!! Had my essay's regraded by another Eng Prof. and an Eng. Major with the Rubric attached. Average in this class for essays 76 and when graded elsewhere resulted in 89 average. If you value your GPA seek another instructor.
I did well in this class but I LOVE reading and have written in the past for fun. She's no nonsense about paying attention in class. Don't take her if you aren't going to pay attention. She will go over your essays before they are due. She expects college level work! Would not recommended her if you have trouble with reading or writing.
Absolutely adored her! She was such an amazing professor and really helped me with all of my essays! She scheduled mandatory one on ones to go over essays before you submitted them and she would help you improve them all the time! Such a wonderful teacher!!
This class was truly enchanting, one because of the passion the professor had for the material and second the dedication/interest she had towards her students in regards to their success. My only regret is that I took this class in the summer instead of fall. Best Professor EVER!
She is a awesome teacher. Clear and a beautiful soul. She is not mean at all. We dont always meet in class but once a week and the other assignment is due online. Take this class if you need comp. 1. the last teacher i had was horrible and made a D. she was unclear and very mean. but ms. clinkscale makes me want to be here no matter what.
She's an ok teacher but I wouldn't advise anyone to take the class for English Comp 1 it's a little advanced
When I first took her class it was ok, but the after a while she becomes a bit annoying. She can be a little rude at times. The assignments are more clear then I have had before but it is still harder then normal. She is very picky about what her papers should be like. She will not help you unless it is in office hours. Over all I am not too happy
Ms. Clinkscale is one of the best English professors that I have taken. If you need clarification on anything all you have to do is ask and she will help you, it doesn't matter if it is over a simple question or quick tips for your essay she is willing to assist. There is quite a bit of reading, but this is an English class. She's awesome, take her
I took Mrs. Grubbs (Clinkscale) during the summer and she was great! She gives great feedback on the reading assignments and on the papers that have to be written. If you are sitting at a B and it can be rounded up to an A she will round it up only if you participated in class. She gives extra credit grades from participation so do not skip class!
She's really helpful, I took her on the summer and despite of the fact that is a short period it was not that bad. If you take her during the summer it's almost 100% sure that she will make you read researches that are at least 25 pages, cause then you'll have a Quiz with only 5 questions. Her class is based on essays and reading.
I took her ENGL 1301 class during summer 2 (6 weeks). You have a paper to write every week but as long as you keep up with the homework assigned every night, its not too terrible. She is very tough when grading essays but she gives a lot of daily and participation grades to balance that out. If you put the effort in, she will reward you
She is a fantastic professor. She loves helping her students and she loves what she teaches. You need to show up to class and do the assignments. She will help you in the writing center or her office. You have to put in a real effort to pass the class and you will do fine. She is always willing to help as long as you do your best.
Worst professor! Do not take her at all cost, spend 2 weeks writing a paper only to receive a final score of 65 on it. She is an extremely picky grader. She even recognized that ONE of my words was not "times new roman". She is the worst professor that you can ever take, at first shes easy, after the drop date she strict. If you take her GOOD LUCK.
Don't take her. She's a terrible teacher and she's rude. Before the drop date, she will act nice to you. I thought she was going to be really nice, being naive and not checking RMP first, she then because overly strict and rude. I came into her office to ask for help and she said "you should of listened to my lectures" Average grade was C Avoid.
Not the easiest class. I ended up getting a B, but it was hard work. I took her class during the summer and had an essay due every week (4 essays total). Give yourself time to write your essays! Attend class and participate. She gives good criticism/feedback. She is a great teacher and cares about her students. She will help but you have to ask!
She is a great professor who gives you everything you need to succeed (just read the instructions!). She is very friendly and loves having class discussions so read the homework. Beware there will be pop quizzes, so just do your homework and you'll be fine. She is great about replying to emails and always willing to help you during office hours.
I had an 85 average until she said that on one of my final papers I had forgotten to put one work cited in the paragraph. She then gave me a zero for plagiarism dropping my grade by 25 points and would make no exceptions even though I had multiple family members in the hospital. She's extremely uncaring and offers no extra credit. Don't take her!
Horrible professor. Extremely picky. I had a 93 in her class until the last week of the course when she accused me of plagiarism because i did not have an in-text citation in one paragraph written in my own words, My average went from a 93 to a 69 because she gave me a zero on the paper and would not allow me to do anything to bring my grade up.
I took her and oh my, she's one tough grader! She's a nice person and is willing to help. I would highly recommend getting help from her instead of others. She can get very picky at essays and she treats it like advanced English. Listen to the other comments, they are accurate. I had the pleasure of knowing her but wont be taking her again.
Shes the best!! Everyone has to take Composition, and she is the best choice. The papers in the class are our tests, and outside of class theres sometimes required reading, but the class is overall easy as long as you do the papers.
Great english prof especially if you like writing. She gives 1 on 1 feedback that's actually really helpful. She's lowkey funny af and you seriously will do better if you participate in class. Make sure you meet the deadlines and word counts and it's an easy a!
Attentive and fair professor. She substituted a ton of class times for a 10-15 minute office conference with each student, so you don't have to be in class when there's nothing to do. She uses Turnitin to check for plagiarism on every essay so make REAL sure you don't plagiarize. A few quizzes, but no tests. I loved her class & highly recommend! <3
She is great person and has a great variety of readings. However, she is a really tough grader and likes things her way. Would not take her again but I did learn a lot from her.
One of the best professors Ive had at TCC because she cares about her students. She gave fairly easy quizzes often and even went as far as to drop a few if they hurt your grade. She was always very clear on her expectations, offered extra credit opportunities and snacks. :)
Horrible professor. I never had good grade until the last week of the course when she accused me of plagiarism because i did not have an in-text citation in one paragraph written in my own words, My average went D because she gave me a zero on the paper and would not allow me to do anything to bring my grade up. Lot of essay and discussion board
A very good professor, very understanding. She wants to give you a good grade, but she also wants you to work for it every time. Every week just be present on the discussion boards and contribute. Instructions are clear in the syllabus coming into the course.
Professor Clinkscale-Grubbs is so awesome. She gives amazing feedback and you can truly tell she loves what she does. Online she still gives credit for late work as long as you turn it in by the end of the semester. Just ask questions and she's happy to help. I would take her class again and again.
She was engaging and knowledgeable. However, during a class discussion, she misinterpreted a comment I had made. I spoke up to clarify, however my grades suddenly started nose diving afterward. Hopefully just a coincidence..
She's willing to work with you with just about anything. Has no problem extending due dates if needed and covers the coursework during lecture very well. Never any confusion. Would highly recommend
