She puts all of the course notes online and doesnt really elaborate in class. Though going to class is helpful, it isnt a must in order to pass. Study thoroughly for the tests though bc they get increasingly harder as the semester goes on. No final.
This teacher gives you every bit of information you could need. She gives you very detailed notes online and then explains each one carefully. A wonderful lady!!
This professor is a monster!no seriously she checks you bags n ID`s before the tests as if she is homeland security!embarasses students for coming in late even if its raining! so if its raining and your going to be late my advice is to go back home!n she always talkin bout her life dont take Her eve
Shes a very cool laid back teacher, but incredibly boring to listen to. I swear, she puts half the class to sleap every class. The class is difficult if you dont pay attention. Besides the class and subject being boring, shes a cool teacher.
She is an okay prof. just goes over her own outline which i have to say are approx. 20% on the test which sucks. the rest is from the book so read read read....there is soo much info just for rocks
Horrible class! Went to her to ask how could I improve my grade and she basically blew me off! She thought I was trying to cheat! Lecture notes DO NOT correspond w/ test material at all! Take another instructor that will at least keep your attention during class!
This lady is very boring, but it is geology so it can't be very interesting. Pretty easy class, only 3 tests and I learned all the material the day before the class. All notes are posted online.
SO BORING HARD TESTS RIDICULOUS TEACHER
This lady is crazy! Stay away!
yeah this class is really boring but its easy because u dont even have to go to class to make a good grade. everything is online or in the book so i only went on test days and i got a B. as long as you actually study for the tests youll be fine cause you only have three grades in there the whole semester.
Sit in the front row of her class. You're less likely to fall asleep during her lectures. Lectures are very entertaining. Her tests are mildly hard, but just study her print-out notes and the Geode disk she provides with the book. I never read the book and I got an A. She drops the first test if it hurts your final average. Overall great professor!
She's a good teacher, sometimes boring, so sit up front. I barelly went to class, made an A. Easy testing, just study online stuff and notes.
Extrenely boring!!! But it doesn't matter because you can make an A without even going to class. Just study the online notes and the Geode disc that comes w/ the book. I attended class once after the 3rd week and made an A on both tests so far. The tests are all multiple choice.
Take only if you are REALLY desperate for an A/B. Easy tests, all the power points and lectures are online. However, she is SO BORING. The most boring class & prof I've ever had. She calls out nappers and newspaper readers. I don't like those people either, but that is so distracting and pointless. What an unpleasant semester-long experience!
WOW...i did not realize any human being could be this boring. I have to say it is an easy class...but can she get more boring?
Easy class, but very boring. Can barely hear her WITH the microphone. She lectures straight from the notes and powerpoints that are available online, so attendance isn't necessary to pass. Along with the nappers, she does like to call out infrequent attendees in class. Strict about the oddest things too. Bottom line...EASY AND BORING.
she is ok.. just go by the notes and youll do good
She is fine... i got an A and im dumb
she is really easy.i didn't go to class but just read the power points posted. dnt waste ur money on the geodisc
shes freakin boring. went to class about 4 times all semester.she posts notes online. dont bother buying the book. i just printed out her notes and did pretty well on that.
Professor Capuano is something else. Everyone is right, she is extremely boring. She mumbles a lot and it's like she's talking to herself, making it hard to understand her. When we take our test she really freaks out and makes a big deal about it. It's just a test. She can be a little rude too and snappy at times. I really wouldn't recommend her .
Took Geology with Mrs. Capuano, like the other statements, she was boring, and really didnt seem to care if you passed or failed. Only 3 tests in the class, and the first one can be dropped. The second and third exam can be retaken on the final day for no higher than a C- grade. Her tests are very tricky. I would suggest taking someone else.
she is extremely boring. everything's online. buying the book or the online book is completely useless!! just study the notes RELIGIOUSLY and u should be good to go. i attended class only twice and just showed up on exam days and made an A-
yes yes yes.......boring class....just study a lot and youll do good :) She is a nice lady :) that is truly passionate about ROCKS!!!
She's easy. Class is not necessary to attend for a good grade. Just print her powerpoints and notes from the site and STUDY THEM TIL U KNOW IT ALL!! If you know the notes, you'll make an A for sure. 3 tests, NO FINAL! No papers or projects. No extra credit. She's not that boring either actually. I made a B+ and only studied hard for 1 of 3 tests.
shes hot and nice and easy ;) i recommend her
Phenomenally easy. Tests require about an hour of study the night before, don't know how you can not get an A in this class. My easiest by far. Capuano is nice and intelligent, a very welcome class to my hectic day.
SUPER easy. I almost never went to class, just studied the power-points that she posted online and made a B in the class. You don't need the book. Her lectures are very boring.
The class is so boring I stopped going. She says attendance is mandatory but she doesnt take attendance. Its a pain to print out the notes but its a must. Tests are mostly easy but there are some confusing questions. Shes an ok prof. No extra credit but curves the tests & they are all MC. From what Ive heard there are better geo profs out there
I do not know why people complain about her. Yes, she is boring and you will most likely fall asleep. But this class was SUPER EASY. Just study hard for the tests which is all pretty much notes from the powerpoints which is online for you to see!Grading is just your average from 3 tests. 78 and up is an A. No way you can fail or do badly. MUST TAKE
This professor is really not that bad, yes you need the textbook, yes you need to read the power point presentations but no you do not need to attend class. the exams are really straight forward and she drops the first exam and yes 78 is an A you can miss like 20 questions!! and still get a b! MUST TAKE!!!
GREAT!
DON'T TAKE! boring class and a lot of stuff to remember. about 100 slides for EACH chapter out there, and u have to know them all. she's not friendly.
For those whose first language is not english, u will have a hard time to take geology
I do not think she is boring, in fact I find her very interesting, but make sure you sit up front because she has a soft voice and its easier to stay engaged when you are closer to her. She relates the topics to real life examples which makes learning easier. She is also a hydrogeologist and water is important to know about. generous curver.
Do not buy the book you don't need it. Just study the power points starting two days before the test(for me at least) and you'll end up with a pretty good grade. Going to class is not mandatory but it does give you a pretty good idea about what's on the tests. If you want a science class that doesn't require hours of studying this would be it.
Can be a boring teacher but best way to stay engaged is to sit in the front. If you sit in the back you will either fall asleep or not pay attention. But class attendance is not required. Class is very easy because there is a big curve and all you have to do is study from the online power points. Easy A or B with little effort.
Easy class, studied every test 2 days before the test day, and end up w/ an A. only 3 tests, DONT GET TEXTBOOK, just study her powerpoint lecture.
Really good teacher and simple class...study power points and you'll do well on the test..3 tests drop first one and curves generously
Seems a little boring, but she is really sweet and passionate about the subject matter. I often felt bad about ho students ignored her or the lack of participation during lectures. Don't buy the book. Study slides before test; EASY A. Only grades are 3 tests, curve about 15 pts, drops first test if helps. Easy A for required science core. No class!
Basically reads off powerpoints, doesn't give a clear review for her exams. Take someone else if you won't take the time to learn the material yourself.
Very nice lady tests are pretty hard but i never attended lectures but with dropping the first test and the heavy curves it a very easy A
Attendance is not required; don’t buy the book she reads of powerpoints. I just went to class the first 3 weeks of the semester, never studied and got a C+ I could have done better though.
Wonderful lady. Nice teacher. Attendance is pretty necessary for a good grade. Textbook is useful as it is applied.
You don't have to go to class, and don't buy the book, no need. She will go over the power points relentlessly as if you are 5 years old. She encourages you not to come to class because she likes small classes. She is an OK professor.I didn't care for the class but made a good grade never going to class. The power points are all you need.
Easy if you go to her lectures and study study study the powerpoint slides. If you do this then you will get an A on the tests.
She is a good, not great teacher. Somewhat aloof.
I find geology somewhat interesting (Not a total snooze topic) so I had fun in this class. Just read the power points and you'll most likely get an A. IMO, most of it is common sense so if you have half of brain you should get at minimum a B. Capuano was fairly interesting too. I enjoyed her class, would take it again.
2011, class was surprisingly tough. Study hard, pay attention. He is kinda confusing on what will be on the test. Read the book and study the ppt.
Dr. Capuano is an OK professor, there are 3 exams and she drops ONLY the first one if it helps your final grade, her test are very detailed so you have to actually put in the work and study, I got c on my first test and A's on the next 2, so I was good, but just study a couple days before the exam and you'll be fine. don't get textbook study PPT
This teacher is awful do not take her avoid at all cost. Not helpful what so ever, came to her office twice for help told me to read the chapters and look at the slides. The book assigned for this class was not helpful either so out of date and hands out countless packets. The H.W. takes around 3 to 4 hours to finish, AVOID TAKING HER
You have to read the powerpoints to do well on the exams. Don't need the textbook. You have to study in advance, she is specific in her questions on the exams. She will drop your first exam if it helps. Use the videos and activities on her page, helps with understanding concepts.
So long as you at least read the power points provided you should do decent in this class. Going to class makes getting an A easier. Expectations were very clear and she is willing to answer questions you have.
Dry lectures. Easy material. Takes the class before the test to review. Very little to no extra credit. Three tests and no final. Doesn't allow you to use laptops in class. Overall very easy, but nothing special about this prof.
Dry, powerpoint-based lectures, probably better for students that prefer auditory-based learning. Textbook wasnt used much, and a good portion of it was considered too outdated for use in class. Not very fond of people that go directly to her for help. Don't rely on formula sheets. Actual course material isnt too difficult if you're good with chem.
You can't have your laptop or phone out, not even for notes. She literally just reads off the lecture slides which she provides on her website so you can skip class all semester. I only went to class for the first week and for the exams and I got an A- in the class, BUT I did study my butt off for the exams. Only 3 exams, no other grades
This class isn't difficult at all and i barely went to class. All you have to do is study the power points. The only grades in the class are 3 exams. But forewarning, study for the exams over time. Don't try to do it all in one week.
No textbook, no attendance. I reccomend going to exam reviews for questions and tips. Just study the powerpoints because all the test material is on there. However you WILL need to study hard for the test. It's like word for word definition mixed with scenario questions. But don't underestimate this class. She cares, but she's not a great teach.
Easy A. All her lectures are online on her website. Only showed up for the first two lectures, after that I just studied powerpoints. Only grades are three tests.
Grades are from 3 tests only. Only reads from a PowerPoint. Didn't have to show up.
Grade is made up of three exams only. No homework or final. I only attended class on exam days, attendance was not mandatory. Professor reads from the powerpoint, which was available on blackboard for review. I studied a week before the exam and made As on all three. She does drop the first exam only if it helps your grade. Take her, super easy.
I'm a non-science major, so I thought geology would be hard for me but it's whatever. This professor will only ask you what's on her powerpoint slides, don't buy the book! However, you do need to study because it's hard to guess rocks lol
This professor just reads from the slides posted online so I never showed up (only on exam review days and exam days). Tests are pretty fair. She only offered one extra credit which wasnt too easy. She was helpful sometimes.
She's a real sweet lady, would recommend for an easy A. Just show up to class, take notes, review notes day before test, get A. The only grades you get are the 3 tests, she curves it anyways. Super easy, not a lot of work really. Would definitely recommend.
I'm going to start off by saying that I stopped showing up after the first exam. While going up did help me a bit I don't personally think it's necessary. There's only 3 grades, and It was pretty easy to make a C/B just by lightly studying the slides for 2-4 hours split across 5 slides. She also curves the exams by 2-3 points (exams are out of 45).
Most reviews here are for her intro geology course. However, if you take her upper level classes, beware. She absolutely refuses to help on homework (which you can't pass without going to see the TA's outside of class time) and belittles TA's and students. You'll probably have to take her, but be prepared. Pay attention to small details for tests.
3 tests over info she covers in class, no final. She just reads from powerpoint slides, doesn't actually "teach". Easy A but the class is basically self-taught through memorization. :/
Professor is very passionate about geology, it feels as if she expects us to do the same. Our overall grade is solely based on 3 exam grades and she drops the first one if it does not help our grade. Very lecture heavy and it's hard to stay awake through the entire class. Seems like a nice person though
I had Dr. Capuano for Hydrogeology and Geochemistry. By far the most concise and clear professor I've had. She really makes sure everyone understands what it takes to get an A in her class. The class is homework heavy, but if you complete and understand the homeworks given, you will be beyond prepared for the exams (which are curved generously).
Most of the people who have trouble with her do not have a good work ethic. Even I would say I have a pretty bad work ethic and still aced this class with an A. practice good studying habits like taking notes and making flashcards and you will definitely pass the class. All exam questions come from her ppt slides so use those to your advantage.
DO NOT take this professor shes the worst. Only 3 exams no homework. Theres extra credit and even if you do it its only 3 points but most didnt get the extra credit. Lectures are so boring, and she is monotoned, super annoying tbh. do not take her.
Not a good lecturer. Since each test is half or 1/3 of your grade depending on how you do on the first test, the tests are really important. The week or two before the exam is full of stressfully studying 5 100-slide PPTs. I took the class bc some other reviews said her class was an easy A. But the A is not easy. The tests are also worded weirdly.
The professor's lectures is not that bad , but the exams are tricky. Her online exams are on Respondus Lockdown and she with her TAs want you to show the entire room along with raising the volume high to hear everything including all the personal matter. It is weird and bad for the professor violating your rights and right of privacy.
Regina capuano is notoriously known to be a hard professor. She has an attitude whenever students want to ask her questions. She also will report you if you dont show her your whole desk area, house, neighborhood, dog, etc. its an invasion of privacy. Shes super smart but makes it impossible to pass her class
I took her many classes in uh: physical geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology and geochemical reaction modeling... She wants make sure everyone have good grade. But her lecture is heavy and dry , exam always have bunch chapters in same time (five chapters in our first exam). If you want take her class, must teach yourself and prepared!!
If you pay attention in her class, do the homeworks, and study for the exams, easy A. The negative reviews must be people who expect A's to be handed to them. She is always willing to answer questions in class and curves GREATLY. One thing she is strict over is cheating. You cannot do homework or projects or anything really with anyone else.
Dr. Capuano knows her stuff. Get a seat up front so you can engage and hear clearly as her voice is pretty soft. If you pay attention in lectures you'll already have an advantage during tests, as she is pretty clear when she hits on test material. Actually learn what's in the homework and you'll score high.
No grades accept for test.
3 tests and no final. I took the class online synchronous, great professor and gives test reviews the lecture before the test. Wasn't a lot of homework.
Wouldn't suggest this course for bad testers. The only thing you're graded on is the 2-3 tests you take based on the (long) chapter powerpoints. The tests are pretty straightforward though, some questions are word-for-word from the lectures. Not hard to pass the class but if you want an A, be ready to study.
Only graded by three exams, she drops the first one if it helps your grade. Her lectures were pretty boring, she just reads the slides during class. She really likes geology though, so if you're interested in it, this might be a good class for you.
Extremely easy classes. Only graded on 3 exams which are also really easy. All the study material you need are on the slide. She records all her lectures.
2 tests and a couple homeworks, pay attention in class and make the most out of cheat sheet! Visit the GLC if homework is confusing, the TAs help most of the time.
Grades were made up of only three exams. 1st is dropped if it helps grade. She's very clear from the beginning that you're not gonna use the book and only her slides will be questions on the test. I stopped going to class after our first exam. Just make a quizlet of every key thing FROM HER SLIDES and start memorizing. I took it as an 8 am :').
Capuano is hilarious. Her lectures are heavy but engaging, she's very particular but still fun. She allows a note card for her exam (just 1 exam) & if you're a grad student you have a semester project. She explains concepts well & the HWs aren't too difficult but can be tricky because of the program you're using. She's very forgiving & curves too.
Her lectures are fully based on the slides, which she solely reads off of during lectures. Tests are dense and difficult. She is disrespectful outside of class and lives in her own reality.
I would only recommend this class to people who are confident in their multiple-choice test taking skills and are really good at memorizing a lot of information. Your grade is only based on 3 tests, and all the questions come from the PowerPoint. I've stopped going to lecture because of this, and she isn't a good lecturer either.
Graded on 3 MCQ tests (45 questions each) with limited extra credit. Professor reads off PowerPoints, so all test questions come from slides. I'd skip lectures and use time more wisely. Only recommend if you're strong at memorizing and MCQs, as your grade is fully based on these exams.
If I had to say one thing its go to class and pay attention. The slides can be hard to read when you don't know the material (and some slides you aren't tested on but she'll tell you IRL if they aren't) Some portions of her recorded lectures are muted (not very online savvy) w/ only 3 tests as your grade and no attendance its an overall chill class
Attendance was not mandatory and lectures were recorded. Lectures were extremely content heavy and could get boring quickly. Exams were very difficult and were based directly off the slides, so commit your knowledge to that. You were allowed a cheat sheet and exams were curved very generously. Capuano is a very kind and deliberate professor.
She's not the worst prof I've had, but I did not like her class at all. She's very lecture heavy and boring, she's also very paranoid of students cheating which to me ruined the overall vibe of test taking. She also has so many practice quizzes and none of them are graded, even though some of them say they are for a grade. IDK she's very odd.
