Zibuck is very clear. You must go to the lectures, because she tells you exactly what you need to do for the exam. A student might not need to use the book, but I found it useful as a reference as it has a lot of tables she doesn't include in her lectures. If you can, take the Honors section, as you get extra extra credit opportunities.
She is very clear I'll give her that. The problem with her is that she makes her tests 100x harder than they need to be. She also doesn't reply to emails so do not expect her to help out of her office hour. Even during her office hours she does not help, she was very cocky and rude to me when I asked her to clarify a problem. Do not take her!
Zibuck is definitely amazing, but you DO need to put effort to pass her class. If you're taking her, go to her lectures and pay attention. She's very clear and explains concepts well. I always used to be horrible in Chem, and I passed her class with an A!
She is a great professor. She makes it really easy if you just show up to lecture. I hardly showed up to the quiz class and I still got an A. She outlines everything, takes great notes, and even records them for you on blackboard. Does a great job preparing you for higher level chem.
She's a good teacher and makes it easy, but she babies everyone. I feel like I'm watching an episode of Dora the explorer. "Do you know the formula of water?..(10 sec pause) H20? (10 sec pause)... That's rite!!!" -.- gets kinda irritating but at least you learn a lot and get an A.
This is a very easy class taught by a great teacher. She teaches higher forms of chemistry so she does a good job of preparing you for future years. I'd recommend Dr. Zibuck to anyone interested in Chemisty
Zibuck is good for giving you exam material the lecture before your exam. Take that into heavy consideration when studying. Don't wait last minute to do the homework, it will take you a couple days to complete. Quiz class was pointless.
Zibuck is an easy professor but she is very rude. It seems like she is always in a bad mood and loses her temper easily. Use the book and owl for practice problems to do well. If you have the choice however, I recommend you take Maryfran Barber for chem. she is a lot more enthusiastic and a lot more helpful than Zibuck.
The web class was very easy however you must do the quizes DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINTUE. if you take advantage of tutoring you will pass the class. sh eis a very sweeet lady. p.s you must listen to the lectures they arent that bad if you tell yourself you want to pass the class-hw
She is rude, mean, and makes her tests unnecessarily difficult. Goes off on tangent and her class material/presentation poorly organized.. Some profs are great teachers but make their tests difficult... Her tests are VERY UNNECESSARILY TRICKY. She DOES NOT CARE if you understand or not & is mean-spirited. Take with another prof who cares & is clear
GO TO CLASS!! An A is definitely doable if you attend lecture. She is VERY clear. Also assignments on Wiley are simple.. just keep clicking until the answer appears :) lol
AVOID! I'm a pre-med student who gets A's&B's. I've taken many science classes&no one has been so hard/unclear/tried to trick students as much. Sample exams are A LOT easier than actual exams. She's the most rude/arrogant lady Ive ever met. She failed a kid for writing when exam time was up for 1 sec(&she was just supervising for lab, not her class)
What she teaches is nothing like the exams. The exams are almost impossible, so you have to teach yourself. She is also very rude and obnoxious so do not not plan on going to her office hours expecting any help or even a nice gesture. I'm not the brightest student, but I know what a bad teacher is.
Can be moody at time but a great professor! Notes are clear and is willing to help her students. This class is not hard if you put in the time! Go to office hours aswell. Wish she taught all my chemistry classes!
She is one of the assets Wayne State has! She is amazing professor, she gives you all you need and asks all back. Expectations are clear & no drama. DO YOU WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING FROM THIS CLASS? IF YES, TAKE HER! If you fool around and chase grades, don't, she is not that kind of teacher. Her exams makes you to stand on your head. She Rocks!
She's absolutely wonderful. Her office hours were incredibly helpful, and if you go to class and pay attention you will do well. The tests can be tricky, but, again, if you go to class you will do well. I gotta admit, she's also got it going on ;)
Zibuck actually makes the class enjoyable. Her lectures are crystal clear and she is always willing to help at office hours. It is NOT a class you can slack off and not do the homework though. You have to EARN your grade. If you work hard you can definitely get an A. TAKE HER!!
Study. Hard. Until your eyes fall out. :) If you do every single question she recommends and keep up with the class, you will get a B or A.... NOT an easy class at all. She is a good teacher, but she moves quickly and is a little disorganized, so make sure to rewrite your notes. :) I liked her but her exams were very tricky :(
OMG! You will fail in love with Orgo. She is an amazing professor. Warring!! This class is not easy, get your sht together, work hard and Enjoy her lecture!
A very good professor for organic chemistry, but you need to spend a lot of time for her class and study a lot. and everything that's hard and tricky you will see it on her exams. STUDY VERY HARD
She is an amazing professor. She explains the material in a clear and easy to understand way. Her tests are not overly difficult, she wants everyone to understand the material so she is more than willing to talk to anyone who needs help.
Great professor! Wayy better than any orgo professor! Take her!
Dr. Zibuck explains the material very well! She tests based off her notes. The suggested practice problems helps you study for exams, DO THEM! Sometimes she will pull questions from them for the exam so I highly recommend getting the answer book too. She is so enthusiastic, and brings models to class to help explain and get the class involved.
The exams are very difficult, but the homework is easy. She kept telling us to make a reactions list to study from, but wasn't really clear which specific reactions to put on it. When she finally explicitly gave them to us at the end of the semester, I noticed she had tested us on reactions that weren't on the list of ones we had to know anyway.
She tends to be disorganized in her lectures. She does explain in great detail, will mention the things NEEDED to know on exam, but she wasn't exactly clear about the mechanisms/reaction folder, until the day before the final. She's very hard, so you must study extra extra extra, do all practice problems, and make yourself known to her.
She explains so well and covers everything in her lecture but she's soooooo rude and her exams are really hard it's 1000x harder then what she teaches . I'm A's and B's student but I got only C in her class :(
Dr. Zibuck is an interesting prof for sure. I aced her CHM 1040 class but nearly killed myself studying for this class. I would avoid her. She is a good professor but her exams are so flipping hard. I have never worked so hard for a B in my life and I'm a straight A student :( Cried for hours because of her ruining my GPA so thanks a lot Zibuck
She is very good at explaining the material and she tests on the major concepts covered in the class. However, the exams are tricky and she is very rude. The class requires a lot of studying and even then an A is very hard to achieve, but the good news is that you will really know your orgo!
I aced the DAT, scoring perfect in O Chem thanks to Zibuck. You will work hard, but you will learn!
She is hands down the best Orgo professor. Unfortunately, I took it in the summer which wasn't a good idea but she is unreal and the best at orgo. I feel I learned a whole lot. Her exams are super fair because they're based off lecture, worth more than a 100 pts so you can get more than a 100 pts, and really straight forward. I would take her again
Best orgo teacher ever! Orgo is challenging but once you know how to study for it, you're good, and she tells you exactly what you need to do. GO to lectures, compile your reactions and Mechanism in one place, and you'll be fine. I would also strongly recommend SI, you really don't wanna miss David White! A lot work, but it'll be worth it :)
she is really clear on lectures and she explains very good but God she is way to rude. she does not know how to talk to people. she makes us feel stupid if we want to ask her a question. she needs to fix her attitude. her exams are nothing like her lectures. its new stuff, the average was neither above 60 nor below 45. you got study for an A.
Honestly, Dr, Zibuck is an amazing professor. She is very clear about what is going to be on the exam. She will give you the review guide, if you follow that you will definitely get an A. And other thing is that this is just a lab class so you can get an get at least B without studying. even if you study an hour before the exam, you will be fine.
I dont know how people on here complain this much about her. Her exams are tough but they are completely fair. The final exam was a killer though, but her exams are sooo doable. I didnt like how rude she was sometimes, but if you studied how she told you to her exams were not too bad. Orgo is a hard subject so dont blame her!
Great teacher, fair exams
The professor herself is fine. But seriously... she expects you to be a chemistry-whiz and throws on the toughest problems ever for exams. WHYYYY?! There's no extra credit. There is homework but that is damn near impossible too! Give us a break lady!!!
Extremely fair exams if you take the time to study. Most exams have built in extra credit where you can get more points. Very approachable and helpful if you need her. Highly recommend taking her.
You will definitely know your orgo 2 with Dr. Zibuck. She wants you to perform well. She gives you practice problems during class, posts reaction grids on blackboard and organizes additional exam-prep lectures. Orgo is not an easy subject & will require a lot of time, but Dr. Zibuck will make it easier. If you want to learn, take her for orgo .
So it's an online course with an optional lab option.... so you can listen to her 7 year old recorded lectures or her old power point notes to do the online quizzes weekly as well as to take the in person exams. this class was very light but is the downfall. if you need to participate in class then this is a no go. she's to busy with her orgo chem.
Her old exams are nothing like the ones we took. The old ones are a joke compared to the ones we take and she is extremely rude in person. Very difficult exams!
AVOIDDDDDDDDDDD............. SHE'S SO HARD LOL!!! RUDE TOO :X
There is no reason to complain about Dr. Zibuck. She makes clear what is expected from students on exams. If you understand the material, you will do fine. I also have taken advantage of office hours. She is extremely helpful. She is a wonderful teacher and an asset to the Wayne State Chemistry Department.
Dr. Zibuck is an outstanding professor and truly knows the material in and out. The material is moderately heavy but you must know EVERYTHING when facing the exam. The exams are extremely manageable and you will do well if you put the effort and time into the course. Do ALL of the practice problems she provides and from the book.
She is extremely intelligent &knows the material inside & out. Be mature when taking this class. Put in the effort every single day, and you will grow to learn the subject as much as her. Her tests are extremely doable, and it will surprise you how much you know. Definitely recommend her if you are serious about studying and learning the material.
Dont Take her for Orgo. She is a tough grader and unfair at all. The worst teacher at Wayne State. Her tests are completely different from her lectures.
Dr. Z is the best. Don't let people scare you, you will learn a lot in her class. I got 2 C's in the first two exams and I went to her and asked what to do. She simply said "study your notes very well over and over". Guess what?! it worked and I end up getting A- in her class. I did really well by studying the notes and Do ALL ALL practice problems
Dr. Zibuck is a fantastic teacher. Her exams are 100% fair. Anyone who thinks otherwise 1) Is not studying right, 2) Wants to be handed the A or 3) Is just lazy. Honestly, go to lecture, do all practice problems you can, and youll be on your way to an A. She will gladly explain any questions you have in her office hours, I would take her again!
so happy i decided to take this class because it was one of the easiest classes i have ever taken. Dr. Z provides so much extra credit it makes it impossible to fail this class. Her lectures online were very straight forwarded, beware of weekly quizzes but if you listen to the lectures you should ace all the quizzes. vocab is important for exams
I aced my DAT in orgo thanks to Zibuck!!
The worst teacher ever. Don't take her
She is amazing. Her tests are 10001% fair. Study what she tells you to, esp. her notes. She offers help in her office hours and she is very helpful & easy to talk to. She's very intelligent & a great lecturer. The only homework you get is smartwork and attending quiz class is required for points. I strongly recommend her, shes the best instructor.
Explains material loud & clearly. Can come off nice to some and rude to others. She's a get-down-to-business type. She'll give you the minimum amount of what you should know, but you must put in the rest of the effort. Exams are very tough & rarely any partial credit21. Smartwork hw compared to orgo 1 is insanely long & 80% or nothing for points.
She explained the materials very well. Her lecture is very organized. I always attended the lecture and study the notes from class, and my total score after final is above 100% so if you are a hard working student, there's nothing to be scared of. I never saw her being rude to anybody at all throughout the semester. She is nice and professional.
Tough professor, but I would take her again. If you try, you will do great. One of the best explaining professors at Wayne State.
SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT WAYNE STATE. You will never see her smile, she hates guys, and grades the class very tough. I emailed her once because I could not come to class, and she did not care and still gave me a 0 for the day. I have also taken other yoga classes in the past, and she does not know how to teach yoga. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
WSU is extremely fortunate to have Dr. Zibuck. She is the best professor I have ever had in my life. Her enthusiasm and helpfulness towards the course and her students is astonishing and inspirational. You definitely have to work hard for a good grade in this class, but that is expected if you are a good student, especially considering this is ORGO
Clear with explanations. Knows her stuff. Ask her any obscure question and she will know the answer. Exams are fair with a few extra points built in. Discussion classes are structured well (more like SI, less group work). Did better in orgo 2 than 1 due to her. Uses the peer mentors. Best chemistry instructor at Wayne.
In the classroom: excellent. One-on-one: unpleasant. Would have taken with a different professor if given the opportunity. Textbook is horrible -- hardly a bond line structure to be found. Recommend "Organic Chemistry, 2nd Ed." by Klein for practice problems. "Second Language" book is good too, but not as good as above. Buckle up.
Dr. Zibuck is THE BEST ORGANIC CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE UNIVERSE don't get me wrong she does teach you as if you're children infront of her but it's organic chemistry you need someone to dumb it down. Took her for lecture and for lab all I have to say is she's the best tons of extra credit plus her strategy of teaching is perfect
I'm a non-traditional student completing pre-med classes. Organic chemistry is a weeder class, but Zibuck is an excellent lecturer who helped me understand the material. Lost my 4.0 (I received a disappointing A-), but I would take Zibuck again -- she is clear, and helped me understand proton NMR. Don't skip lecture -- you'll miss extra credit.
disregard all the brown-nosers on here.. this is real talk. Dr. zibuck is decent. Her conservative and napoleon complex nature makes her unapproachable. she is beyond condescending and often feared. her lectures were clear and easy because she did not cover ANY challenging material during lecture. Seems to care a lot about money & not students
Zibuck is decent, she knows her stuff though, i would not take her again because her class was really hard. you basically fail the exam unless you do like 70 problems majority with multiple parts, (a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h) out of the book so you can get a decent grade. I would NEVER TAKE her again, and would NEVER RECOMMEND her. she is rude to people.
She is a good professor, but u definitely have to review review review, but thats for orgo in general. if u don't practice u won't get a good grade. Zibuck gives a lot of opportunities for review & she will never surprise u on the exam. She's very fair & offers some extra credit. If you're at wayne she definitely is the best org prof.
terrible
Take notes, study your notes, get an A.
Dr. Zibuck is a great professor who knows what she's talking about. She does what she can to help her students but she wants you to work for it. She is a bit intimidating (asking questions in class may be difficult because sometimes you feel dumb by her response). But she's straight forward and as long as you put in the work you'll do ok.
Dr. Zibuck is at the top of the charts in regards to the Chemistry Department at Wayne State. Org 2 is difficult material to comprehend but she makes it as easy as possible. If you take notes on what she says then go over your notes there will be no surprises on the exams. Overall a great professor that I strongly recommend.
Orgo was my worst fear but zibuck made me LOVE orgo 2. She is one of the best professors I've ever had. TAKE notes and listen to lectures , make sure you understand everything then you will be good for the exam. its not an easy A class but if you put your time in and understand the materials, you should be fine.
Professor Zibuck is phenomenal. I took organic chem II with Zibuck & I have to say she is truly amazing! To get a good grade in the class you have to attend and re-watch the lectures. Practice, practice! I did not use the book to study, just class notes. Definitely take advantage of peer mentors and your TA, they are the path to get an A. Take it!
Take her if you want a bad gpa! She is not a good orgo prof she talks down on people and not to mention that she doesn't give you partial points on exams unless it's completely right which is beyond ridiculous for organic
Please do not take organic chemistry with Dr. Zibuck. She is rude and does not grade fair. Her practice exams are easy, but the actual ones are terrible. I worked really hard in this class and had extra tutors. She still did not care about my success at all.
Dr Zibuck is not a good professor. Her exams are not fair; her final was 5 times harder than any other test. plus many problems on it were ridiculously harder than any of the others before. She is not understanding and does not give partial credit.
She is not a good professor; does not give partial credit and her exams are nothing like the practice ones. She is also not very nice.
Class is definitely lecture based but should be on echocenter so attendance isn't really mandatory. Sometimes (like at the final exam) will ask you to solve unfamiliar questions. Make sure you fully understand the material and don't just study past tests.
her lectures are confusing at first, but if you rewatch them and do practice problems everyday you shouldn't have a problem. book was rarely used. lecture attendance isn't mandatory but it's very helpful. i don't think she's as hard as everyone makes her out to be.. she is very cold hearted though
Had a great experience with Dr. Zibuck. This was my second time taking the course. She provides all of her last semester exams and practice problems. It will be the same formatting as the exams. GO TO CLASS, book is not even used even though she says it is. All lecture based, take good notes and review them. Final exam was ten times harder tho.
Legit the only science teacher I ever learned from. She is a phenomenal teacher and really nice person. She's really approachable during office hours. ONE THING YOU MUST DO IS PRACTICE!!! PRACTICE AND PRACTICE!!!! SHE GRADES PRETTY FAIR TOO. JUST LISTEN IN LECTURE AND GO HOME AND PRACTICE. I got a B in orgo1 and A IN ORGO 2, Zibuck is the reason.
Love zibuck took orgo 1 in the summer it seemed really rushed. In the fall with orgo 2 see is very clear with what you need to know goes through many examples really helps make it click. Don't need the book but it is helpful for she gives you suggested book problems and smartwork for ec. Study old exams and you'll do well just go2 quiz class
orgo 2 is not a bad class but it all depends on the teacher. Zibuck made us take the ACS standardized exam as the final this semester and she only told us about it 5 days before the final. GAVE US NO TIME TO PREPARE FOR IT. I HAVE AN A GOING IN TO THE FINAL. IM SCARRED.
Orgo 2 is easy. ONE week before the final, she informed us that it was the ACS standarized exam AND that all of the orgo 1 would be on the exam. It left us no time to prepare. It was extremely inconsiderate and she claimed that she "didn't have to give us details about the exam". She's rude and condescending and makes you regret asking questions.
not a bad teacher, but definitely inconsiderate. tells us we are taking a standardized exam one week before our final and says she's "not worried" and "we know this stuff".. well we didn't.. and we all failed.
One of my favorite professors for a science course. Everything you need to know for her course, she will tell you, do a mechanism and reaction folder because there is a lot of them, atrium, go to quiz (go to multiple), and you will do great. The ACS was not that bad, it really depends oh what you learned and how you learned. I felt I knew majority.
I had zibuck for orgo 1 & 2 and she is by far the best professor i have ever had. she did throw the ACS final at us last minute but if you've been working hard all semester the final should not hurt b/c she gave over 50 pts of extra credit. the book isn't useful & rewrite your notes & GO TO QUIZ CLASS! she's the best! work hard, its not an easy a
AVOID!! RUN!! Horrible professor. Does not know how to teach and if you ask her a question she will make you look stupid. Does not care about her students at all.
Very harsh professor, Tests are long and difficult. does not take partial credit. Do not take at all costs, save your money and stress. Does not care about her students.
Honestly going into this class i didnt know what to expect. Having Zibuck as a professor made my life 100 times HARDER. Heavy lectures, Pop quizzes, Lack of interest in her students. She does not answer emails and thinks she owns wsu. Recommend taking this course with another proff!!!!!!!!!
I kind of like her as a teacher. she is one of the professor at Wayne who knows how to teach but her Attitude and Exam will kill you life. if it's possible don't take her class, don't ever think of you do bad one exam and she will drop or replace. It will never happen. So chill . she wants you to know almost everything & she knows hw 2 bring u bk
Use lecture notes only and practice practice practice!! Got 90s in all her exams
Zibuck is a very knowledgeable professor. She knows her organic chemistry very well as she's been teaching it for years, but she believes all students can compare to her level. Her exams are hard - no matter how much you study. Old exams are useless and not helpful. She is RUDE, acts like she's the boss of Wayne state, and does NOT reply to emails.
Zibuck in general was a good professor. After barely learning anything in orgo I, having her as my orgo II teacher made me able to learn the subject and learn how to study for a chem class. The class was tough, but all the hard work pays off in the end. I wish we didn't have the ACS final but if you work hard from the beginning, you should be fine.
If you want to spend your time and money than she is perfect. She is one of the meanest professors ever you can have, so enjoy your time with her. Believe me it's not a hard class but she made it harder.
In general if you enjoy chemistry then go ahead and take the class however if your looking for the easy way out then zibuck is not for you so you cant slack off, also with all the exams shes gives there's the acs final which is brutal
Zibuck is one of the most challenging professors i've ever taken. Attendance is absolutely critical solely because a decent portion of your grade is pop up quiz. Don't expect easy points, either. The majority are tricky/concisely timed and serve as reward to the students that keep up on their practice. she wants u to know PHD level of org. 'd avoid
Dr. Zibuck is very knowledgeable and her lectures are good But her attitude, grading and useless past practice exams will ruin your grade. Chemistry is not that difficult, as long as you are willing to put in work. But with her , you can work very hard and still not get the grade you want. With a different teacher, i could have gotten an A
If you want to do well in this class, make sure you don't slack off or put off studying. She gives plenty of extra credit and practice for the exams and in my opinion the exams were more than fair. Do well on the exams because the ACS final is difficult but shouldn't hit you too hard if you keep up your exam average throughout.
Good teacher , smart , but grading and exams are terrible . She is also not very nice . Take this class with another professor if possible .
Dr. Zibuck explains orgo very well. She is accessible almost anytime of the day M-F. She is always willing to answer questions, but can be condescending. She will tell you everything you will need to know--ACS was horrible. Exams are tough and its like Russian roulette on which topics will be multiple choice. It is a lot of work so practice daily!
Very good orgo professor. I learned a lot in her class and had a solid understanding of things that I was tested on. take her if you're planning on taking a standardized test like the MCAT. She is pretty condescending and rude, so don't expect to be able to ask her questions unless you have a thick skin. Per mentoring and TAs can help there.
Decent teacher, doesn't answer questions very well and very tough grader.
When she explains the material, it is a good explanation. I just feel like her notes are unorganized, she'll talk about one topic, discontinue it, then pick back up on that same topic after talking about something else. Other than that, I think her exams are fair and that you will learn from her.
This class was solid. The old exams are the key to learning her testing method. Orgo 2 is much more memorization based and zibuck did a great job explaining what we needed to know. ACS exam was also fine; Be sure to get the guide! 15% curve was pretty helpful as well.
Zibuck is really rude and not very approachable She Ruined chemistry for me personally Super tough at grading exams, no room for partial credit
Dr. Zibuck will give you "hints" to what's on your exams and on the final. But only if you go to lecture! She will walk away from the echo center recorder to give the hints. GO TO CLASS! She is the best lecturer I have had at WSU- because if she says it, it's probably on your exam. Extra credit was available on our exams. She is very good 1 on 1.
She knows her chemistry very well and does provide examples when she lectures. the only issue with her is she barely gives any partial credit on exams, so it is very easy to lose easy points. tests are fair and she never puts anything you haven't learned before. organic chemistry as a second language is recommended it will summarize very well
Best chemistry professor I've ever had! This was my second time taking the course. She explains things really well and gives examples. Her exams were fair and pretty similar to the practice exams she posted. Also make sure you get organic chemistry as a second language; This book is life heaven sent.
Disclaimer: I took this in the summer & the course was heavily condensed. You are on your own to understand material. She knows her stuff but does not have the patience to answer questions in lecture. When students would ask extended questions, she would often lose her temper. Definitely talks at you rather than with.
There is EC which helps, but she gives no fs on the grading for lab classes; LIES. This is an excerpt from the syllabus: "Try not to be point conscious. Relax, learn and enjoy for organic chemistry lab is FUN! For those of you who are point conscious, (scale is below this)" She also refuses to curve if you are less than 1% away from a grade up
I loved this teacher. She is very helpful. Amazing. Easy A.
She was very helpful and responded quickly to emails.
She's ok, its obvious she uses materials from past years for instructions so it gets confusing because you don't always use all of what is posted on blackboard. It's irritating navigating the excessive content from old sections to find needed material. So much extra credit. Must go to labs to get points. Not much instruction in lab.
Dr Zibuck is absolutely amazing! She releases all of her past exams and gives a lot of extra credit. She is very to the point with her lectures and doesn't give any surprises or curveballs. This class isn't easy considering its orgo 2, but she definitely prepares for the ACS exam and beyond.
Very good professor, but her attitude and exams will ruin your experience of organic chemistry. take the course with a different professor if possible.
In my experience, i thought her teaching skills were good, but during office hours she would not explain very much to me and was rude.
Her exams are way harder than what she teaches in lecture. Your better off taking it with another professor.
This class is hard by nature, it organic chemistry its not going to be easy with any professor. However, Dr. Zibuck could teach chemistry to a wall, she goes at a very doable pace and is always willing to slow down when asked. She always warned when chapter would be hard so we knew to really buckle down. Taking her for orgo 2 without a doubt!
I love Dr. Zibuck. She is a great lecturer and she explains everything in depth. The only down side i experienced was her grading. She is so tough and does not like to give partial credit. But if you want to learn orgo, take her.
Amazing lecturer, she made me love chemistry. Her exams are very fair ( a little easy if you ask me), but she is a tough grader.
Favorite prof at Wayne. She is the easiest prof for orgo and a really great teacher if you want to actually learn orgo. This is a hard class and if you dont put the effort in you will not do well. Exams are fair but there is no partial credit so it is easy to do poorly. There are a lot of extra points on exams and sometimes when you go to class.
I took her online class and it was very easy. I never listened to her lectures but read the chapters and looked at her online notes. I hear she is a TOUGH grader for other chem classes, but her online class is easy. Regina knows her stuff and will help if you need it. I emailed her once though and she never responded. Do your work ahead of time.
Regina Zibuck made this class far more difficult than it needed to be. Some of the content in her exams were straightforward--others we had barely discussed. She can be very intimidating to ask help from, and this only makes things that much harder. We do have quizzes and homework, but they're a drop in the bucket compared to the exam points.
I loved her class. She gives so much problems to prepare you for exam, she has a lot of resources to ensure success. Listen to her echos again at home, and you will pass.
Zibuck is intense but she cares. She is the best prof I have had at Wayne by far. Orgo is hard in nature but if you practice every day for 30 minutes it will go a long way. She is very fair but you must earn your grade. She teaches to the ACS exam which is awesome. She only teaches orgo 2 in the summer and I would not have taken it with anyone else
This is a very organized and relevant lab that actually lines up with orgo 2 lecture. The labs are also on topics that have already been discussed in lecture which is usually not the case in other science classes. The lab exams are fair and Zibuck did a great job organizing this course.
She is very intelligent and gives great lectures. She gives a lot of resources for you to succeed in her class. She has a condescending tone, however, but if you can get past that she's fine. The ACS will suck no matter which professor you have, but at least she gives you a study guide.
She was really great this semester! Took it in the summer and was great the ACS final sucks with who you have as a teacher but she gives practice problems. There test include multiple choice and all the questions are in a publisher testbank which you could buy for $30. ACS study guide you can find online for free.
Once you've had Zibuck, any other chemistry professor will be a disappointment. She is an amazing professor.
if you wanna take this class
Had a A+ through out the whole semester and come final time and tank and end the class with a B+. The final was extremely difficult and unrelated to the contact given in lab. Absolutely awful and unsympathetic towards students. Class average for the final was a 64 and no curve. What kind of professor wants students to fail that bad?
Easy A class. The answers are in the book.... not sure how anyone would not get an A
Even though I received an A in this class Zibucks rude demeanor & disrespectful nature makes this class unbearable. Everyone had CHM 1240 lecture (a linked class to lab) before our midterm & we were having issues with wifi and she wouldnt add time to the midterm. She was completely dismissive of us. 30pts EC is huge cus the class totals 475 points
Most organic chemistry professors at Wayne are pretty good, Zibuck is included in that- but her exams are so much harder than most other professors. If you wanna go into chemistry in the long run then she's great for you, if you wanna go into medicine and you need a good GPA then you should you avoid her lecture or even her lab and wait a semester.
Shre doesn't care about students and doesn't follow university guidelines when it comes to personal matters
Take this from someone who got a C- in Orgo 2... Her exams are so straightforward from what is taught in the lecture. The exam difficulty is 3/5. I highly recommend to take her. She's a very good professor! TAKE HER!
Mid-semester Rating - The most straightforward class I've taken at Wayne. Watch her lectures, know the variations, and you're all set. Haven't scored less than a 100 by studying just a few days before exams (EC HEAVY). Talks slow so u can speed up her lectures. Don't need to read book, just what she teaches. Provides good practice. !!DONT cheat!!!
Decent lecturer but her exams goes into more depth than what she teaches. Unapproachable when you have questions, shell make you feel stupid for even having a question. Basically screwed everyone over on the final with some wonky questions. Would be an easy A if taken with another professor
Wayne State is very fortunate to have the best organic chemistry professors and Dr. Zibuck is one of them. To prepare for her exams I would re-listen to her lectures, do as many old exams as you can (she usually has them uploaded on Canvas) and attend lecture. Know how to do the problem forwards, backwards, upside down and standing on your head.
I do agree with everyone saying she is one of the best chemistry professor and Wayne state is very fortunate to have her. I can't emphasis how intelligent she is and how hard working she is. you will not regret it! Thank you, Dr. Regina!
The best orgo professor at Wayne. Explains everything very well so you can easily understand it. Exams are straightforward. She does give pop quizzes so make sure you attend class.
Dr. Regina is a true gem As what everyone keeps saying she is a true expert in her trade. Now looking back I kinda miss attending lectures, it was a true honor to learn from some one who cares!
STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!Please
She gives many chances for extra credit. Allows 2 chances for every quiz with correct/incorrect answers shown and no camera or lockdown browser. I recommend watching her video lectures and take notes they were very helpful. I spent a solid full day a week on her course and got an A. I thought she was clear and easy to understand. I recommend!
The worst professor ever. Shes so selfless and didnt even make the whole transition to online easier. During this pandemic it was her last priority and she did not accommodate. She made her exams harder on purpose. She set us up to fail. The worst.
Dr. Zibuck is a fantastic lecturer. She knows what she's talking about and gives thorough instruction. However, she is extremely tough on grades. Doesn't curve exams. Barely any extra credit. Wasn't lenient at all, even during a pandemic--if anything, she made the class and exams harder. I had a lot of respect for her before the transition online.
Professor Zibuck's teaching is very good, however she does teach a little fast so you have to make sure you keep along. She was lenient during the pandemic, however her exams were incredibly hard. She gives a decent amount of extra credit but her exams are so hard that you are always borderline in that class. She is tough so study everyday!
Orgo is a tough topic honestly many have trouble comprehending it. She's a great lecturer but you have to keep in mind you can't just depend on attending lecture & hope to pass. ALOTTTT of help is going to be needed outside of class! Her exams were difficult & honestly she wasn't the kindest when it came to grading.
Dr. Zibuck really wants her students to understand and do well in the course. However, her exams are extremely difficult. I think the class would have been easier had it not been partially online due to the pandemic. She offers some extra credit, occasional quizzes, and there is OWL homework. I recommend SI sessions for help.
Dr. Zibuck was a fair professor before the pandemic hit. Once we switched to online, she started putting problems on the exams that were very hard and she doesn't give partial credit. This class will ruin your GPA.
Dr. Zibuck is the best chem professor at Wayne. The negative comments on here are from people that did not put in the effort- any chem class will take a lot of effort so be prepared to schedule this class alone without any other hard sciences. She posts old exams for you to study off of which are almost identical to the exam you will get. Trust me.
The exam questions are very hard and she does not give partial credit. She is always rude to her students and complains about her job. Do not take her online!!
I would stay away if I am you. She is rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate. She doesnt respond to questions via email.
STAY AWAY!!!! SHE'S SO RUDE. Very inconsiderate and does not care about the students at all. She would say something would not be on the written portion of the exam, and guess what, IT IS ON IT!!! NO partial credit, so just save your time and money and take a prof that cares about you more than just trying to fail you, because she will fail you.
Dr. Zibuck cares about us cheating more than us learning. She limited the time for our final exam because she was so worried about us posting on Chegg. I had her before covid and she was great but things changed after classes switched to online. She treated us like Orgo genius' and overestimated what we are capable of doing through remote learning.
Just do yourself a favor and stay away from her. There are many other professor that actually want you to learn. This pandemic made her so inconsiderate and harsh which should be the opposite of what professors should be doing since it's remote learning. ONCE AGAIN JUST STAY AWAY FROM HER!!
Be WISE and avoid this prof!!!!!!! I studied so hard for this material and Orgo II is not even that hard, but she made it very difficult, it's like you're being tested on a different material. DO NOT take this professor when everything goes back to normal, since she's inconsiderate whether it's a pandemic or not. This prof will RUIN your GPA.
Do not listen to all of the bad reviews, Dr. Zibuck is a great professor and Orgo 2 has many tutoring opportunities to take advantage of. You need to put in the time and the work to get an A. She provides great resources that help with exams, those who wrote bad reviews on Dr. Zibuck were just too lazy to put in work. Amazing professor!
She's not a good professor at all. Take orgo 1 with someone else that cares about their student.
I am shook, I am usually a straight A person, but she had me stressed!!! I cant believe thats how she was testing us in the PANDEMIC!! Like this is the first time taking orgo and shes testing us like were experts. Just do yourself a favor and DONT take her!! Shes is also very very rude!!
Not sure why everyone is complaining - she is clear on what is expected. And super helpful. You just need to study and practice.
Dr. Zibuck is a solid professor who will make sure you come out of Orgo 2 knowing your stuff. Being in a pandemic, she did everything to help us succeed. She not only provided recorded lectures but also did live lectures every class time. The class is challenging, but Dr. Zibuck gives you all the tools you need if you're willing to put in the work
I'm so thankful to Dr. Zibuck for everything I've learned in this class. I'm studying for the MCAT and am finding she covered all of the topics I need to know. Any bad reviews are likely from students who weren't willing to actually learn the material inside and out. Being lazy won't fly in Orgo 2 and you have no one to blame but yourselves
Dr. Zibuck has very organized notes and lectures with helpful problems. She also offers a lot of worksheets, practice exams and book problems that prepare you well for the exam. She is available out of class for questions, and works to help you understand the material if you want to learn. I learned a lot from her in this class! Amazing professor!
To do well on exams, I recommend doing ALL of the practice problems, worksheets, & old exams then studying them. Know reactions & mechanisms - this takes some memorization. This class was time-consuming & challenging, but with consistent effort it can be manageable.
I thought the prof was really good, clear, you knew what to expect. Learned tons and tons that I know will help on MCAT. You just gotta work!
It's funny to see that after each bad comment there is always someone that posts a good one. Seems to me that they are the same person based on what I read. But that's besides the point. Please just don't risk your GPA she's an alright teacher in class but NOT online though!! she's is sort of rude and mean if you try to meet with her individually.
she knows what she is talking about but she is one of the hardest professors, you dont know if you are going to pass until the end. The final was the scariest thing I have ever seen, she put structures on there that you could not even think of.
put in the work and you will learn lots!!!!!
This class was such a waste of time and money. Could have been better if exams were actually fair enough with good amount of time. :/
Shes a great person and genuinely wants you to succeed. Tons of resources and a variety of learning tools. Always wants to make things better for students in any way she can. Its a tough class but if you put in the effort youll do fine.
learned more from youtube than I did with this class. Exams were hard and not enough time at all. Does not listen to students concerns and is more focused on cheating rather than us taking our time on exams. Retaking this class.
learned a ton, great class resources, do the work and you'll be fine
great class, helped with MCAT, energetic prof
I did very well on the MCAT this class does not help. She does love what she does but she does not care about the students get the class done then run!!!!
the Canvas resources are very helpful. study and you will do fine
learned everything I needed from the Class Notebook!
best orgo prof ever!!!!!!!!
Dr. Zibuck is one of the best! She prepares you well for the exams and everything is on Canvas. Her class notebook is what really helps too! Just study and put in the work and you will do great!
This class is very doable. Doctor Zibuck's tests are not unfair at all. Practice and you're golden. Do all of the canvas worksheet problems and suggested back of the textbook problems for each chapter twice before the exam. Don't bother studying Owl. Any exam questions that were from OWL were also on the suggested book Q's or canvas WSheets.
She is horrible. Does not care about the students at all. Also, if you meet her one-on-one, she will be very rude.
So clear - final exam was just like old exams!!!!!!!
This entire year and semester with the pandemic was hard enough as it is, you'd expect professors to show a bit more sympathy towards their students. Zibuck didn't at all. She changed the exam format after the 1st exam, rarely gave partial credit, took away extra credit she promised early on, and rarely answered emails. Don't take her class online.
Not sure what the last person is talking about, attend the zoom classes and you're golden. Great class, fun professor! Just do the work
As a student who absolutely despises the shift to online format, Dr. Zibuck helped make it a lot easier. She provided us with a surplus of resources that aided our learning in her course, such as old exams and practice problems. She was always very accessible and made Orgo 1 much less stressful than it should've been. Retaking her for Orgo 2! :)
It is a perplexing thought to imagine that the resources she provides suffice to ingest the course materials; it is by no mean comparable to other instructors, it has been told other instructors would provide videos, worksheets, and the likes. It was so disparate that I was studded with disbelief whether I could triumph or not, but because ...
She's amazing. I was so worried going into orgo 1 and she made everything so simple. Watch her pre recorded lectures, come to class, and do the old exams before the test and youre golden. Taking her right now for orgo 2 and she's even better than last time. Totally understands everything students go though and has a lot of empathy. TAKE HER. MY FAV
Dr zibuck is very passionate about organic chem and it shows. She gives so many resources and different ways to learn and practice the material. She clearly cares about students and our successes. She does expect us to do the work to get a good grade. Sometimes she has extra credit but over all of you work hard youll do well!
Zibuck is great. Practice the resources given, practice them often, and you will do well. Unlike other orgo profs, her exams are not made to trick you. Practice her worksheets, class notebook, and previous exams, and nothing should surprise you come exam time.
Amazing professor, can not wait to take her again. Truly cares about her students and answers all questions with respect and excitement. She is not flexible with deadlines or grading curves but the class is not rushed and you have time to learn all of the material. Do her extra practice if you're struggling. Tests are timed so be ready.
I hated this class and I really disliked this professor. No empathy during covid. Very fast paced class, she's very abrasive and rude. Absolutely no flexibility of any kind. Only 45 minutes for exams, no partial points, and she doesn't curve. This class sucked.
Best professor ever! So kind, supportive, and so good at her job!Ochem is difficult but she provides plentiful resources to succeed. If you put in the work you will do great! Do all canvas and OneNote problems twice before exams. Was always extremely caring towards all of her students. No curves but honestly not needed because she's just that good!
If you are good at dealing with fast paced classes, then you will have no problem passing this class. Her practice exams that she posted were very helpful to pass all of the exams, however she only gave 45 minutes to complete the exams, and with the amount of long questions and work she would give us, it was definitely not enough time.
Just save you're time, this online course was a mess. Honestly, wait to take it in person, or take it with someone else if you have to. Her exams are moderate but so unfair on the time!! Save you're time and money.
She was really not that bad. She wasnt my absolute fav prof but she wasnt bad either. Her exams were fair and she gave enough time for them. The final was pretty hard though. Not similar to the previous exams at all. She seemed very passionate about orgo and wanted to teach us.
The summer class is VERY fast paced. Prepare to have no life other than chemistry for those 7 weeks. She "teaches" you an entire chapter in 30 minutes and her examples in the slides are nowhere near as difficult as the homework assignments. READ THE BOOK because the lectures don't help at all. Expect 4-8 assignments a week (with some extra credit).
Literally the worst professor I've ever taken at any college. She doesn't give any form of partial credit on exam questions. Just a bunch of short answer all or nothing questions. She's incredibly rude and entitled, and her class is out of 700 points but 600 of those points are exams and 50 are quizzes so it's nearly impossible to pass.
86% of your grade is based on exams in her class. 600 out of 700 points. Homework and quizzes are only an additional 100. Its already hard enough as it is and the way Zibuck handles the class is seriously making me hate my entire existence. stressful and unnecessarily so.
Ive never been so stressed in my life Take organic chemistry with someone else or at a totally different college if this professor is the only one teaching it. Im exhausted and I am not sure why she cant just teach and take it easy like every other professor
Dr Zibuck likes to play games. Once upon a time (lecture before the exam) she mentioned how we would start new material and how she expected the majority of the class to leave because the material was not on the upcoming exam. Her kind soul decided it was a good idea to give the 20 students who stayed EC while everyone who left found out in sadness
Take it with someone else if you can. Shes not a nice lady and she is punishing the entire class for something a couple of students did instead of punishing them alone. Bad manners as well.
The class in itself is already incredibly difficult. She doesn't help by being so intimidating and quite rude to students asking for help. It is possible to pass this course, provided you spend several hours with tutoring, studying, etc. Unfortunately, Zibuck doesn't make it any easier or offer any kind of buffer for struggling students.
I don't know why she has a low rating she's literally an awesome professor. Her exams were 100% fair and most of the questions came from her old exams which she also provides for everyone. Teaches very clearly and her office hours are a great resource. If you are willing to spend enough time studying then you will succeed.
Quite possibly the worst class I've ever taken at this university. Her response to cheating in her class is to simply make her exams impossible to pass. No partial credit and exams are much more difficult than previous exams and worksheets that are provided for practice. Hides class averages because they're so bad. Actively tries to fail you.
I received an A in Orgo 1 and didn't expect this class to be so difficult. Exam questions are not similar to the practice problems given. She's also quite rude when she should come off more approachable to students who need help. Maybe she's better to take in person, but her online class is terrible, especially since a student was caught cheating.
Dont take Orgo with her, for the sake of your mental and physical health.
She was my first Professor at Wayne that I hated. Her class up to the final was bad but not horrible. Not imposible to get a good grade but definitely very hard and you have to study all day literally everyday. She makes things more complicated than need be. Shes also rude and didnt offer any help when I asked her questions. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Received an A in Orgo 1. There was a cheating scandal & she took it out on the students that remained in the class. Exams seemed impossible regardless of work put in. The exams were 10x more difficult with questions that confused TAs & PMs. No amount of studying prepared you enough for her exams, just awful.
She is mean
Practice the old exams and you will do fine. There is extra credit on each exam. Possible to get an A if you do the work
Practice, practice, practice! Great resources on Canvas, do the work you'll be fine
the notes and lecture videos are all you need to do well, great prof!
I learned a ton, lectures are great!
Not only is Dr. Zibuck kind, she is a great lecturer, I learned a ton
it's a foundation course, lots of old exams for practice, use them and you'll be fine
every exam ha extra credit, use the old exams, it's pretty much the same
just come to class and practice, easy B
everything you need to know is covered in class. either go and pay attention or listen to the recording!
Practice the work sheets and old exams!
We practice problems in class. Exams are not bad
just practice the old exams
practice worksheets and old exams and you will do great!
All week she assigns one assignment and one quiz based off of the chapter. Includes lecture videos for extra help. Easy pass
Dr. Zibuck is the best Organic Chemistry teacher at Wayne State University. She is so nice and caring. Orgo is really hard, but that doesn't mean it is the teacher's fault. Dr. Zibuck gave a lot of extra credit to balance the grades and focused on learning the main content. Do practice worksheets and old exams and its easy A
Extremely arrogant professor, who doesnt care enough about her job to make herself accessible to her students. She has about average teaching skills so most students give her a pass for her subpar social skills
Dr. Zibuck is an okay professor. This class is just hard in general since it's Orgo however, she is very extra-credit friendly!!!!! She gives you access to old exams and lectures. Make sure you study these and you should do good in this class.
Shes a nice professor, but the subject is really hard. Dr. Zibucks teaching is average, but her exam questions could be really difficult. Some of the questions are all or nothing. No multiple choice on exams
Practice, practice, practice!!! The resources on Canvas are amazing. Use them!!
I took Dr. Zibuck for Orgo 1 and I did very well but Orgo 2 was the complete opposite. The exams were so difficult and nothing like the practice problems and practice exams. I understood the concepts and chapters very well however when it came to the exams she made them so hard. I would say take her for Orgo 1 however, DO NOT take her for Orgo 2!
she's not a bad professor. she just teaches in a way that's like you're supposed to already know what she's talking about. which is probably because more than half the people in the class have taken it like 3 times. orgo is just really hard in general so ill probably retake the class just not with her. her exams are really hard
Zibuck teaches this class as if everything is common knowledge and she will cut corners in notes anytime she sees an opportunity to. Her exams are very hard and are the main portion of your grade. The previous exams on canvas are very accurate but do not show steps, so if you don't understand why an answer is right you may be left wondering.
Zibuck is probably the best Orgo Professor to take at Wayne State Uni. Great job covering material, exams were sometimes challenging.
She did an amazing job summarizing orgo heavy material. Her class note book (oneNotes), work sheets, and practice exams are all what u need for an A.
Honestly, she is not a horrible person at all. But, orgo is not easy. She expects you to study BEFORE coming to lecture, so make sure to look over her notes. The Class Notebook is going to be your BEST FRIEND. And get ready for horrid exams, they are SO HARD, but if you go over all of her previous exams and practice every day, it'll be ok.
Zibucks class was hard but she made sure we had every resource possible. Mostly lecture heavy and lots of practice questions. She posts practice problem sheets and has a class notebook with a lot too. I felt like I actually learned a lot in her class
Be prepared to study on your own. Especially if taking this class for the first time. She teaches it like we all already know the material. Orgo is hard but she makes it harder than it needs to be. Especially with how fast she goes.
Orgo is just an extremely difficult class. Zibuck gives plenty of resources within her class, USE THEM ALL. The only thing I did not like about her is that she went pretty fast and did not take time to go step by step through things sometimes and just wanted to move on right away. My number one tip is to literally practice every single day!
I had no problems with her. My class was completely online, so there were no meeting times. Her weekly lectures were helpful. There was an extra credit opportunity for almost every chapter. I thought this course was fairly easy
600/655 of your grade is exams, so very test heavy. She is an ok teacher but frequently rushes through topics she sees as basic or that are also covered in the lab (personally I did not take lab so very annoying). She doesn't go easy on any exam Qs. Some extra credit. Lots of resources that are AMAZING. She is usually available to help.
I really enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Zibuck. Her lectures are amazing and pretty well structured. There are 4 exams and a final which make up the majority of your grade, but use her practice exams (there's plenty) and the exams should be no problem. She also gives lots of extra cred. Definitely the best professor to take orgo with at Wayne
Love this professor. She gives one homework and one quiz a week. Everything in the quizzes is from her lecture slides. Exams are not difficult if you study. She replies fast and gives many extra credit opportunities. Very good professor.
She made orgo so easy and fun. I wish she taught orgo 2
Very passive in lecture. Didn't use lecture slides, takes own notes during lecture. She provides so many resources which made is so easy to do good. watch lecture, use her practice worksheets, and do all 8 practice exams and you will do great. I really. wish she was teaching orgo 2.
If I had to name one woman I hated it would be this professor. She takes out her anger on the exams and has no empathy for any of her students. She literally waited 3 years after a student got into med school and then got him kicked out by emailing the school that she knew he cheated. Literally satan incarnated and I got a A in orgo1 DO NOT TAKE
She wouldnt round my 79.9 to a B-. Im trying to get into Dental school, so this sucks but it is what it is. Funny enough, as of this post I am 3 exams into ochem 2 and I have a 101.5% in ochem 2, which speaks volumes I would say.
Dr. Zibuck made orgo 1 easy and a breath of fresh air from my other classes. She provides so many resources for you to use. Her exams are identical to her sample exams. Her notes are concise and helpful. I'm honestly sad that she doesn't teach orgo 2, I would love to have her as a professor again. Do yourself a favor and take her class.
She is the best teacher for orgo. Everyone who says otherwise just didn't try hard enough, plain as that. I had C's in both gen chems but when I entered orgo, lowest grade on an exam was a 90 because of how many resources she has. Look at all the handouts, videos, class notebook, past exams, and you'll be set. Go to peer mentoring and discussion!
Pros: She gives a lot of resources and practice; you'll be prepared for exams Cons: Doesn't teach the material very well; you'll have to study a lot on your own. She's also very intense and can be mean. If you have questions, ask your TA, not her
Run. Just don't do it to yourself. Terrible professor and VERY mean. Says to go to her office hours for help but she will humiliate you. Take a different professor.
Teaches basic concepts in class so you need lots of time to learn the rest outside of class. Condescending and patronizing so you get scared of asking questions in class. Feels the need to make Orgo more of a weed out than it already is. The one redeeming quality is she gives loads of practice but that cancels out by her not specifying exam topics.
She is passive aggressive at times, and a bit condescending.People tend to feel intimidated when wanting to ask her a question due to her attitude towards you. She's not afraid to humiliate you in front of a bunch of people. Only upside is that she provides old exams for you to practice on. Her lectures aren't awful but aren't great either.
My experience taking Orgo 1 with Zibuck was really just that you have to put in the time & effort in order to receive a good grade. I went through all of her sheets and went to peer mentoring. Anyone complaining truly didn't put in the time and effort and expect to be spoon fed when they're literally taking one of the hardest classes in undergrad.
She truly cares about her students and i really appreciated that from her!
you do have to out in the work by doing the worksheets and class notebook and practice exams, which aren't bad. You'll be fine if you put in the work!
I had her last fall and literally did not score below 100 on any of her exams. I remember calculating my grade for what I need on the final to still get an A and it was a 67. Which is still crazy to me. So relax and take her. And she's great and really nice if you approach her correctly.
Dr. Zibuck was very caring, approachable, and understanding of my situation. Out of all professors, she was the only one willing to step up because she really does care for her students. You really do need to put the effort though as orgo is not an easy subject and she explains things in the best way possible and she offers so many resources.
Organic chemistry is one of the hardest STEM classes and Dr. Zibuck made it so that it was one of the easiest and most fun to learn. She's passionate about this course and truly wants you to learn, most people complaining about her expect her to hold their hand and give them exams that test their memorization instead of their learning. TAKE HER.
The best organic chemistry professor. Be prepared to study hard this is not an easy course but with hard work and dedication, you'll be able to succeed in her class. She provides so many resources to help you throughout the semester. Overall, good professor but you''ll need to put in the work for your grade.
She has good material to prep for the exams, but as for lecture notes they are somewhat hard to follow and don't go into as much depth as I would have liked. At times she speaks to students like they don't understand English but other than it was an ok class.
She's really good and fair but I hate that attendance had points attached and I feel like an idiot when asking her questions.
Use Orgo as a Second Language Textbook! This is 90% of what I used for studying and this class was mostly a breeze in terms of content. You still have to work hard and study every single day though. 4 of 5 exams had free extra points sprinkled in including final exam. Dr. Zibuck is great although she can come off passive-aggressive at times.
Attend every class since you are graded by participation. Tests are decent as long as you do the practice exams. Not very approachable (you'll see). I would recommend going to the Peer Mentor and get more practice problems. Her lectures are good although she always speeds through it like a NASCAR Driver since she wants to finish the chapters fast.
Graded on attendance. Do OneNote, worksheets, and past exams and you will easily get at least an A. Watch pre-lecture videos or re-watch lectures since she speeds through it. Keep one folder for reactions, another for synthesis, and another for mechanisms. Tough, intelligent, and independent woman. Respect her and she will do the same.
Really tough class with a difficult proffessor. You have to work for the grade you want. Her lectures are too quick and intimidating.
Don't know where the good reviews are coming from but AVOID this professor
Not sure who's giving positive ratings but they have to be fake. This is not a good professor to take organic with and she doesn't care even if majority of students fail. Lecture doesn't help and online videos will teach you the material much better. Avoid if optional.
Be honest, she keeps it real and is a fantastic teacher for orgo. People don't like her because she challenges them and doesn't give enough free points (when she gives plenty). She gives you so many resources to the point there's no excuse to fail. You're in a higher-level chemistry course, time to put your big boy pants on and put in real effort.
DO NOT TAKE unless you want to question your entire worth daily. This professor strives to fail as many people as possible consistently. I'm assuming the old reviews are either fake or from when she wasn't as bad because I'm traumatized. When people tell you to not take a certain professor they are exaggerating but when it comes to her DO NOT DO IT
She does not curve a single thing, even if the average is very low. if you get one question wrong on her exams you get no half credit and each question is worth a lot even for small mistakes. She truly is an awful professor especially when it comes to her grading and no matter how hard you study you probably still won't do well.
Do all past exams, worksheets, and OneNote problems. Lectures are quick and packed with info, so WATCH PRE-LECTURE VIDEOS. Attend lecture for points; she gives exam hints. Loves theoretical questions so actually understand chemistry and NAMES (she'll say "use words") of reactions. Keep two folders for all mechanisms and then reaction types.
For the people giving negative reviews, she is very tough, doesn't curve, and doesn't give partial credit. Respect her and she will do the same. She is very accessible, caring, and has a big heart. But she does have that steely exterior. She is a professional woman, not your mom. WSU's Nancy Pelosi.
Her teaching is very good but it won't matter if she gets creative with her exam and writes extremely hard ones. you get no partial credit at all in the exam and no matter how much hard you study you won't do good in the class. NOT a recommended professor at all. if there is any other professor take the class with them.
Zibuck's Pros are her resources: her one-note, past exams to look at, discussion ec/attendance it's just her exams have weird or confusing stuff that we didn't cover in-depth/ worded or done in a way we never did even though she says we did. Peer mentoring/SI helped but overall you will be stressed still (just better than Dr. Han at least I heard).
GO TO PEER MENTORING IF YOU WANT TO PASS THE CLASS!!! I rewatched every lecture and watched her videos on canvas and still struggled, but peer mentoring was soooo helpful, and they explained the materials much much better than her. she doesnt curve or give partial credit. I would definitely never take this professor again!!
Zibuck's lectures aren't quite enough and you'll be working for your grade, but I still felt like I got a lot out of the class. Provides lots of resources like the notes, short vids, practice etc. Not super approachable and can be kinda mean (ramping up the final etc) but she taught the material for sure. Spread out the OWL, take notes every class
Does not want her students to succeed. I've never felt so discouraged by a professor. Barely any extra credit. Don't even think about partial credit on exams, if you make one small mistake the whole question is a zero. I've never dedicated so much time for a class yet this is the worst grade on my transcript. Save your time and effort and avoid.
I really like professor Zibuck's teaching style, I had failed organic chemistry prior to taking her class but she really helped me understand the concepts and topics way better than my other professor. I definitely recommend taking her. Piece of advice, study and practice the material she gives, as well as the past exams! She also gives ec.
Appreciated her teaching style, she made it very easy to understand course content. But her exams were extremely difficult as she purposely used questions meant to confuse students. Her final exam consisted mainly of synthesis problems when she said it would cover all topics covered in class. Has office hours but is not approachable as a person.
She needs to go back on academic probation
Only take her if you want to fail. She will pick the hardest content to test you on and won't give any partial credit
Her lectures are useless; you will be tested on the hardest material that she only goes over for 30 seconds during class. She apparently has trauma from students cheating, so she doesn't curve or give partial credit. She is incredibly rude to students when you ask her a question. She does not care if the average is failing.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
This professor runs a tough class, but using tools like unstuckstudy ai, ChatGPT, and the textbook can help you manage the workload. Attend lectures, prepare carefully, and you may still earn a respectable grade.
The course was not hard at all. Almost all of the exams' questions were formatted the same way as her old exams. I ended up missing (i.e., not taking) all the quizzes and I ended up with an A-. I don't regret taking her. 5/5!
She made Orgo 1 and 2 way easier! Just go to class, review the class notebook, and do all the practice exams (legit the only thing I studied was the exam's, they're like the real thing). Don't memorize but understand why something happens and figure out the pattern and then apply it. Practice every single day. She sometimes tells you exam format!
Professor Zibuck was very clear with instructions for assignments and outlines for grading. She is a tough grader, and doesn't deal with students who slack, but if you put in the work and cooperate with her rules, you will do well in her class.
She is amongst the best prof to take for orgo courses. Yes, she has some flaws and is very strict when it comes to certain things. She does challenge you on exams but this is an orgo class so what'd you expect. However she has A LOT of resources and practice. If you just practice consistently this is an easy A/A-. Stay on her good side lol.
I had 1.5 years gap with Orgo 1and I managed to get A in her orgo 2 class despite it. She is a good professor with a lot of resources to help you improve. She does seem condescending at times and strict in some cases. She made class harder than prev since we were performing too well and she wanted to drop averages - which seems unfair. Overall good
I took Zibuck but spoke with a lot of people who had James Bour for orgo 2. The overall consensus was Bour was better for this course as he is more straightforward, fair, and curves. However, Zibuck isn't so bad as you can do very good with her. She does have some flaws and will modify the course (usually to make it harder) which adds variability.
attend lectures, do practice worksheets, ask questions from TAs LAs. Exams are tough. Easy B. Work for that A and have good study techniques.
She is one of the most kind and caring professors i've ever had. If you email her about any issues you have with the class, she will more than likely be willing to help you out. All homework has 5 attempts, all quizzes have 2, midterm/final 1. Total of 50 extra credit points!!! Make sure to do your work on time if taking ONLINE.
this class was majority online just weekly quizzes and homework due at the end of the week. But i had lab once a week. The TA fernando was very helpful during lab. Not a hard class at all. But only an online readings and assignments. But had extra credit all the time and super easy class and not hard and not meant to fail anyone.
Super easy class! Mostly just reading a short chapter and doing the homework and quiz due at the end of the week. The attached lab was also really easy to participate in and she was a very accommodating professor if you are also working while being a student. She gives out so much extra credit so its a nice cushion for your grade. She's very nice!
She's really good at explaining topics and has a lot of resources but she doesn't curve even when the class average is low. She does post older exams which are nice but she says she wont ask trick questions but then does. You have to study a lot thats given with orgo, but her grading and exams are rough too, she doesn't give a lot of partial credit
Comments here say she is a nice professor and has a lot of resources. This is true. She is nice and encourages people to study, but her lecture videos are confusing. She is not grading the papers, the TA's are fyi. Her grading criteria is what will get you. Her grading is not forgiving and one or two wrong mistakes on an exam can cost you.
She is a good professor, she explains topics well and is always willing to help. Although I did well, the class average was really low on the final and there was no curve, so I feel for those students.
Ms.Zibuck is the worst professor I've had in my entire life. I don't know how she is a teacher who doesn't show any empathy to students in her Org Chem1 course. She is rude. If you make a small mistake in any question, she will not give partial points which is done by other prof. I hope the KARMA will take care for treating students in this manner
Dr. Zibuck is a very knowledgeable professor; however, she is NOT lenient with grading. She is a very harsh grader, and small mistakes result in significant point deductions. She taught us a new chapter less than a week before the final, and it counted for 15% of the final exam. I was on track for an A, but I lost my A because of that. Good luck...
Ms. Zubick She treats students differently based on certain ethnicity & color. She shows favoritism based on this. She is ALWAYS right regardless whether you made the honest mistake or not. Ofcourse, her teaching is obnoxious. Ms. Zubick does not check whether TA's corrected the exam papers properly. If there is a small mistake, all points gone.
She provides you with numerous old exams to practice for each test. Grading for the exam is harsh, if you make one mistake, the whole question is wrong. Make sure to complete the practice exercises she provides on Canvas and in her online notebook, and attend the TA sessions. Sometimes she complicates stuff, and it's easier to self-study.
bro do not take this professor unbelievably hard grader. and her exams omg its always like 3 questions that youve never seen before and ofc she made them like 70% of the exam. run away trust.
