Great teacher and awesome class
Great guy, very patient in class.
class is very boring, but grades fairly easy, not hard, just requires time
You can get an A if you go to class!! He does what he can to help you out!
Great teacher, very helpful and understanding, TAKE HIS CLASS
very easy, act like your interested.easy test pay attention to reviews
The hardest easy A ever... the soccer team even scored high!

Dr.Raymer makes difficult material easy to understand. He will always make time for you after class if you have any questions. Great professor.
easiest class ever, kinda boring but easy A, tests are half take home essays
Was over my head in this, didn't take intro before Phil. of Literature - LOTS of reading, need to have very good understanding of philosophical viewpoints before this one
DO NOT take logic from any other professor!!! This guy is great. He knows what he's talking about, he is clear, and he is more interested in your learning than anything else. He also gives an ass load of extra credit.
The best logic teacher out their. Helps out with any problem. tons of extra credit. easy test, just be there for review session and do the review test.
Deductive Logic was difficult for me even though I liked him, i believe some material was just over my head. Pretty boring info.
Interesting Teacher...Easy grades if you do the work. Pretty good guy overall

Such a nice guy, and very helpful to the students. If you're willing to learn, he will help you! Material can be over the heads of some, but if you pay attention and come to class you will get it. I'd recommend this teacher for any Philosophy class!
No homework, no tests. Turn in a few 1-2 page papers and one 5 page paper as your final. You have all semester to write them... Not hard, lots of fun, avoid if you don't enjoy discussion, the selected works are wonderful reads. TAKE THIS CLASS! (A) credit
Very easy teacher. Willing to help. Gives you everything on the tests, don't even have to read the books. Great Teacher!!!!
great teacher
Dr. Raymer is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He explains information as clearly as possible and gives fewer assignments than most. He requires extensive reading and perfected results, but he is not unreasonable with time or request.
terrrible class
He's pretty cool, don't need the books, I got a B with very little effort. He takes care of you, can get boring but is not a waste of time. Real nice man. Tries to help anyway possible.
SOO easy all you have to do is your homework, which are easy weekly papers and if you turn in something that doesnt even make sense youll get a B..You can tell hes nervous talking in front of people, and its funny, easy class overall
he does something funny with his hands when he in up front talking to the class...but he such a nice teacher,,always willing to help. If u do the work and pay attention, then u'll make an A otherwise, u'll get an B...come to class..attendance not required
good teacher. sometimes unclear but hell clear it up if you ask. likes to know what you think about issue at hand (participate).
Nice guy. His lectures can get a little too abstract sometimes, but he'll try to explain if you ask. He likes to encourage class participation. I'd take another class with him.
Excellent professor. He's got cats and shows pictures of them in class. Definitely a Mr. Rogers/Jerry Springer(Final Thought Mode)/Ted Kaczynski. Is the cat really a cat? Is he a sugar packet instead? How do you know? I call him Sugar Packets. Mr. Packets could be a train conductor. How can we know?
Oh my gosh, seriously take this class if you want some good sleeping time! he's a nice guy but he is soooo boring.. the class is ok, its just kind of weird... be sure to ask him about his cats!
Exceptional professor, and one of the nicest I've ever had. Classes are lecture intensive, but he encourages class participation in the discussion. There really need to be more professors at UNCC like him. Highly recommended - especially if you're a Philosophy major.
This man's picture is probably next to "gentle" and "erudite" in the dictionary. Soft spoken, interested in helping you learn, and easy going in class. I found deductive logic very easy, though I had been introduced to some of it previously. Dr. Raymer mainly wants to see you thinking.
R. Raymer is a super nice man. He will help you with anything you are having a problem with. The class isn't too hard either.
He is a very patient and nice instructor. He is willing to explain the material. The class is fairly easy and a guaranteed A if you pay attention in class and do the webwork.
Listen people, don't take Ded. logic because you hate math and you want an easy credit, because if you are an anti-math kinda person, you will fail this class. It's difficult at first, but if you don;t listen to him and try to figure it out on your own, you will succeed! webhomework, no attendance!
Very sweet man,but honestly i really didn't learn anything cause half the time he rambles and you don't know what he is talking about. He is sweet, but he is one of those professors that is sooooooooo boring.Personally that drives me crazy,it is so difficult to make yurslf go to class;strict attenden
Difficult class, difficult material, Dr. R is about as clear as it gets. Lots of reading, but he to say he is "fair" in grading is a vast understatement. He is more concerned with you showing thought about the material than he is with grades. He will help you to no end, and he knows his stuff.
Dr. Raymer is an interesting professor and tries his best to material understandable to everyone. Most importantly he is will to help you to make sure you get the material it is very important to him. One of those professors you look back on and wish you had more of.
This is one of the nicest professors you will have. Definately a great class to take. His style of teaching is very easygoing but you do have to do your work and keep up on readings. He grades easy. Great class.
great teacher! treats each student as a individual and really trys help in every way. go to class and keep up with everything youll do find. just do the work and you will pass!!
pretty much the nicest man ever. he does help make things clearer and class is easygoing. /o/
Always willing to answer questions and help. Do the work, ask if you do not know and you will do fine. Very easy going. Class was fun.
the nicest man i have ever met. laughs at his own jokes, loves his job. willing to help in anyway possible. do the assignments, the class consistits of puzzles it's really fun, and easy A
hes a kind man, but hes also craZY ;) and a little nosy!!
Professor Raymer is a very helpful, nice and easy to talk to Professor. His class was easy to understand he was willing to explain the problems till you understood what you were doing.UNCC needs more Professors like Professor Raymer. Professor Raymer is a MUST TAKE!
Excellent instructor, very knowledgeable, a must take type of thing.
Prof. Raymer's class is always enjoyable. He really knows his stuff and seems to still enjoy teaching. Highly recommended! Exams consisted of 3 take-home assignments which sometimes required some fairly extensive digging into the material.
professor raymer is so cool. he is amazing. he will stay and help you with any problems you may have. work not that hard and he's willing to give you a hundred and 10%. love him, great teacher.
he is really boring, he's really nosy and is constantly laughing at his own jokes but he's a great guy and is an easy professor. i literally had no idea what i was doing on the tests and i got a b or a c on them and a b in the class. definitely take him.
Dr. Raymer was a very interesting, quirky, and intelligent professor. He made extra strides to make sure his students had comprehension of sometimes difficult subject matter. I'd recommend his class...
Anyone who says he isn't an amazing teacher needs to be flogged in the town square.
his take home tests are really hard. But if you give as many details as possible you will do well. Don't forget to add ALL details. He IS the most interesting teacher I've ever had. It's hard to take notes in that class though. He seems to know philosophers backwards and forwards and tells some great stories if you're interested.
Good teacher, just not what I thought. Dissects movies like crazy, but it IS a film class. Found out philosophy was not for me. Very intelligent and seemed to have a good sense of humor. Not bad.
Very boring class! Easy professor! Take him if you can!
SOOOOO extremely nice- like the nicest man in the universe, seriously. He's very helpful and doesn't make u feel stupid when u ask questions b/c he wants ppl 2 understand. u can skip a couple readings and still know what's goin on. MUST TAKE RAYMER!
BORING! Nice guy, but boring
He is a good guy and stuff but kinda hard to understand exactly what he's asking. Not very clear on what he wants from you. But, overall, read the readings do the homework and go to class and you'll have a good grade.
Sweetest guy ever, though his class put me to sleep. I ended up with a good grade cuz he is too nice to fail people who try. People in my class would pass who never came to class because he is so nice!
Great professor. There was a lot of homework for this class, but your homework counts as a bigger part of your grade than your tests do! I highly recommend this guy. He does not take attendance and is incredibly nice. Also for our class he gave us the option of taking the final or keeping the grades we had prior to the final. Awesome teacher.
Great professor, interesting class on healthcare ethics. Class is writing-intensive, so he assigns one-pagers here and there. Very knowledgeable on this subject. Take his class!
Nice professor. Class wasn't too hard. I enjoy the topic though. He grades kind of harshly but he gives many opportunities for extra credit.
very nice guy. class was relatively easy and graded assignments based on their completion over correctness except for the 3 to 4 projects throughout the semester and even then he grades VERY generously. i recommend him.
sooooo boring! this was the longest most drawn out class i've ever taken. be mindful of the questions you ask, for the answer may take 20 minutes. not a bad class though, it gets more and more interesting throughout the semester. no tests. he was very helpful when needed and wants you to do well
Great guy, he's quite a nice person. But class can sometimes tend to get a little boring. The class can get pretty interesting. The work isn't extremely difficult. There are no test, but Essays instead.
Raymer is a really really nice guy. The class material doesn't make any sense at times, and it's really detailed, but I think he understands this and grades very leniently. His tests are multiple choice with some short answer and he gives essays, which aren't hard. Take him if you can. His examples are pretty funny and interesting at times.
He's a nice guy and he grades VERY leniently. Sometimes, his class puts me to sleep but the work isn't very hard. There are two exams (one was a take-home) and 3 essays. I put little effort in his assignments and ended up with a B. He is probably your best chance of getting a good grade in the course. Also, attendance is mandatory.
He is a really interesting and fun professor to have! His classes involve a lot of student teacher interaction based on the subject matter which involves some debate. The course did not interest me but Professor Raymer was very helpful and lenient with his grading. I highly recommend him!
GREAT professor! He's very nice, real good at teach the materials, very interesting, and really helpful. I really recommend his classes!
Great Professor! I did not care much for this class but he made the material interesting and easy to understand.
GREAT Professor! He is VERY lenient with his grading. Take this class especially in the summer. Very easy - you will get at least a B (everyone should get an A). 10% attendance, 30% hws & short assignments, 30% (3) long essay assignments - He gave us 100 for our third essay assignments. 30% exams - 1 in class exam which consists of multiple choices
GREAT Prof! He is VERY lenient with his grading. Take this class especially in the summer. Everyone should get an A. 10% attendance, 30% hws & short assignments, 30% (3) long essay assignments - He gave everyone 100 for our third essay assignments. 30% exams - 1 in class exam which consists of multiple choices & short answers & 1 TAKE HOME EXAM.
He is such a sweet guy. He drops lowest quiz and does a group quiz grade which really helps your grade. Also for exams all the quiz questions are the exam so you should AT LEAST make a C if you just half way study. If you take fairly good notes and just show up in class i would say easy B and possibly even an A if you do well on quizzes.
I've had prof. Raymer for 2 classes now and I love both of them. I seriously seriously recommend his class for everyone and anyone. Very smart and nice guy. He drops the lowest 1 or 2 quizzes and he works around things and is very flexible with grading and assignments. Attend his class, take the quiz per week, exams take home, and you'll get an A.
As long as you put an effort, you will do great in this class.
I've had professor Raymer for numerous classes. I wholeheartedly recommend him for any and all of the classes he teaches. Attendance is mandatory. He is always willing to compromise and help you. Make sure you take notes from what's on the board to what he says in class (helps for take home essays). Very smart guy and really teaches you. TAKE HIM!
He is alright. He is really nice and helpful with the material. The material is really boring and he doesn't really help make it more interesting but other than that he is pretty good.
Simple, easy class. Requires a little thought, but not too much work. Really nice and understanding guy. Sort of loses the class sometimes when he talks too deeply, but it's really an easy A. Not sure if attendance was mandatory. He took attendance early in the semester but didn't later on, not sure if he learned the names or what.
Great Professor. As long as you copy down everything he writes on the board, there is no reason at all not to do well in his class. There was 4 easy assignments and quizzes. Both the exams were take-home exams and the final was a 1000 word essay (about 3 pages). With a little bit of effort, an easy A is obtainable.
Raymer is the typical philosophy professor - so intelligent you are somewhat intimidated just being in the same room. He literally knows almost everything. He as a true passion for sharing all of this knowledge as well. His lax demeanor and calculated questions encourage your thought, and encourage you to vocalize your thoughts and opinions.
This professor is very fair. All the required readings and assignments are always posted before they are due so you can see what work load you'll have for the next week. Independent work, very flexible, gives feedback and posts grades immediately! Great and responds quickly to emails! Great professor!
I hope to take classes with him again. He is a great teacher!
He has been one of my favorite professors at UNCC. He's not the clearest speaker but he will go over something until you truly understand it. His writing is tough to read but I told him I was a visual learner and he actually took the time to draw things for me so I would understand. He's funny and he truly does care about you as a student.
He's a great guy, I personally struggled with the tests & assignments but still pulled out an A from him because I took the time to listen to his lectures, showed some genuine interest and made sure he knew who I was. Go to class as much as you can because he will assign homework/writings in class. You can find the required book as a pdf online
First of all, taking this class was the worst decision I have made when it comes to registering for classes. This class was a ton of work. I took it online and this professor was pretty much unreachable. When I had questions about and assignment or had and issue with something he wouldn't respond until I emailed him again about the same thing.
Great guy. He is very quiet, so I would recommend sitting as close as possible. Assignments are very clear, and most tests are take-home. He curved grades too. Kind of dull material. You will do fine if you put in a little bit of effort, and come to class (kind of) regularly.
Sometimes grades assignments a little harshly. Not much work tho. He seems to be a very nice person
Pretty easy class, but he is a tough grader on the 3 short essays we are assigned. His writing isn't the clearest but write down what you can from the board, listen to his lectures, and you'll do fine on the quizzes (offers curve). Very awkward professor but he's kind and soft spoken.
He is very hard to understand. Nice man but he is sort of socially awkward and mumbles quite a bit so it is hard to understand his lectures. The coursepack for the class is confusing.
Very nice guy & willing to help if you need it. He cares about his students. Like many have said, he's very soft-spoken so I suggest sitting near the front. Show up to class regularly & show you're interested and he'll be willing to bump up your grade if it's bordering another grade.
Dr. Raymer is a very sweet guy. I don't want to say his course is lecture heavy but it is very boring. I don't consider myself bad at math but if you go to class, even if you sleep through it (which I did at times) he walks you through everything. Assignments are weighted nicely. I got an A.
Wish I learned more in this class.
Professor Raymer's class is the most unpleasant class I've taken at UNCC. He often manages to confuse himself during lectures (truly an astounding feat) and struggles to get back on track. If you have to take this class, you will need to work with other students or find a tutor. I will avoid Professor Raymer in the future.
Raymer is a nice guy and cares about his students. His lectures are boring though and the answers to some of the questions he asks are somewhat subjective. His tests are fairly difficult and the grading criteria of the writing assignments is unclear. He is not bad, but I probably would not take him again.
Took this course during the summer, Easy A. Since it was a short session every week we had to do modules with videos and readings from two books. Answers are literally there for you. Emails back quickly and not a harsh grader.
Raymer is a great guy. The lectures are kind of intense and the expected reading is a little insane, but if you come to class and make an effort you should do well. There isn't a lot of assignments throughout the semester, but a significant portion of the grade comes from participation in the discussion section.
Very difficult class: very good professor. Do not take this class if you aren't willing to study at least 5 hours per week. This class is known to be difficult; and it lives up to its title.
He talks really softly. He means well but the material is difficult and he does a pretty poor job at explaining it
Lectures are very intense and difficult. The professor is a genius, his IQ is probably in the same park as einstein.
A professor that cares about his students and is passionate about what he teaches. Can be socially awkward and speaks lightly but an overall good guy. I took this as my writing intensive and we didn't have many assignments. He rambles during lectures but it isn't all important. There is a group presentation at the end that isn't too hard.
This dude uses Cogbooks for Critical Thinking and it sucks. Not really his fault, but for an asynchronous class it was far too frustrating.
I though this course would be way different than it is. If you are taking this as an elective.... don't even think about it. The material is "math based" in a way and you only get a few pdfs to worm from and learn from. Not that much work though but tests are 80% of your grade.
Save yourself from this class if possible. The lecture quizzes will take you hours. Although he gives you awhile to take them, even doing them spread out is awful. Don't take this class!
Professor Raymer is so nice, but he is honestly so difficult. I had to teach myself almost everything. He is very willing to answer questions, but I think he makes it a lot more complicated than it needs to be. The course pack (textbook) will be your best friend. Utilize youtube videos, and google to teach you.
Only had 4 grades this semester and the classes were brutal to sit through when I went. Really easy to do but a terribly structured class and I can never understand the questions he's asking.
Dr. Raymer's class features interesting content, particularly in the movies that the papers are based on. Watch the movie he assigns and incorporate the readings PLUS his lectures into your papers (cite both). Be sure to use sound academic writing (i.e. strong introduction, clearly defined thesis, body paragraphs with clear topic sentences etc.).
I took philosophy because it counted as a math class for my gen eds and I was told it was easy but I wish I never took it. because it was online there were no lectures just an assignment due every Sunday about what we read in the textbook. The work makes no sense to me, I've never been more confused in a class.
The most disorganized online professor I've had! Couldnt even complete the course. Has assignments with questions on content that is not covered in the book or in lecture. Had to DIG just to find the lecture files! Very sad/frustrating to have to drop a course, before it truly started, due to the professor's lack of true guidance on the material.
1/2 of my GroupMe withdrew the day of the first assignment and when I asked for help on the homework they sent me a guide on how to drop the class (thumbs up emoji)
Dont take this cant understand what his assignments are asking
I would only take this class if you are actually interested in philosophy. There were 3 big essays, 2 tests, and 2 attendance questions. There are 3 books you have to read and each one has an attached essay to write. I just was not good at philosophy so I struggled with this course. I think he is a decent teacher but I did not enjoy this class.
Professor Raymer's PHIL2105 class is challenging, but with the right study tools like Unstuckstudy, you can navigate the material. The workload is heavy, but engaging with the resources and attending office hours can make a difference. Not for the faint of heart, but worth the effort.
He's a sweet guy, passionate about philosophy. There's one weekly assignment that switches between essay and quiz format. Midterm and final exams. Any "quiz" and exams are very hard, not easy to cheat your way through. He's not tech-savvy, multiple-choice assignments are just a pdf and you have to type in all answers in the text box (annoying).
Professor Raymer is a really nice guy, but a very tough grader; he expects many things from the essays he assigns but does not clearly state them; he just expects you to figure it out.
I took this class online and felt like there was a disconnect between him and the students. The class wasn't engaging and the Canvas page was hard to navigate. His comments and announcements were also kinda sassy. He does give grades back pretty quickly and drops your two lowest assignment grades, which I appreciate.
He is a super kind man. The only thing is that he is very soft spoken, so his lectures can be kinda boring, which is the entirety of classes. We had weekly assignments that were open note. There was a midterm and a final that were also open note. Overall easy course if you just take time on the assignments.
Has been my favorite professor at UNCC thus far. Took the summer online Deductive Logic course as an extra elective and he offered great feedback and was overall a sweet man! Will be taking him for future classes. Must understand the materials deeply to do the homework, but I'm good with numbers so this came very easy for me.
Doesn't outline grading criteria at all; instructions are always unclear. Kinda expects you just to figure it out, takes off points when you don't. Asking him simple questions is so frustrating; he overcomplicates and obscures EVERYTHING. Can be nitpicky, judgmental, and sassy in his "feedback." Huge hassle for a gen ed.
