No tests, reasonable assignments, no research, take home final. Very helpful.
Class rather boring, work very easy, teacher nice and helpful.
Material is kind of boring. Relaxed environment. Easy going and open to ideas
Very helpful teacher and flexable with assignments. No exams but a take home final. Very clear on assignments and they are easy enough. Not much reading.

Must take! He is very nice, and does not keep you in class long. Not hard grader, but it's not a hard class.
great teacher. easy and helpful. take him.
Open to new ideas. Very helpful & wants to make material intersting. Definitely take him!
best professor ever! he gives u the exact questions on test b4 test, barely any hw, and class is always fun! he is always there to help. if you're horrible in english... you'll still get an A. overall he is awesome so take his class
a cake teacher
he's is the best teacher ever. he will help you with anything you need
Best teacher I've ever had.
paper, presentation, editing assignment and a take home final is all you'll do in this class. very, very easy but still manages to teach you something.
Very helpful and easy to work with. Go to class and write papers.
Unreal! the most understanding prof. at Towson. Absolutely great teacher. Without a doubt take him!
Manages to teach a lot by demanding very little. Best class i have ever taken at towson.
Very good teacher, very easy but u learn as well. a little flamboint. Deff take this class for eng 102 so easy, and he gives u extra credit.
A very nice and down to earth man. A few paper here and there, but nothing demanding. A simple, easy class that actually thought me something. Take this class!
A great guy. A better teacher. Actually learned how to writer better. No a hard class. He basically just improves your writing skills through simple assignments. Take this class as a Gen Ed. Real easy!
very easy class!!! i highly recommend it...he is very helpful and easy grader...not many tests and goes over everything
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He focuses on the skills you will need in your field and is very helpful. He grades easy, only teaches what you need to know and doesnt bore you with unecessary information. And our final is a take home :)
very helpful, willing to teach, easy class but learn as well (perfect combo)
Nicest man in the world.Very flexible and has a teaching style worth giving a shot.I think that his class was very easy, but what really makes me appreciate him is that he made my interest level of about 2.5 out of 5, into a 5. Not to mention,I feel more comfortable with my writing style.Thx Reiner
Nice man, easy class. Just a few easy papers to do and you work on them in class a lot. Don't do much in this course, but it's very helpful for improving writing. Can miss 3 classes w/o your grade being affected. Not bad, would reccomend it to others for an easy A, as long as you have a brain.
Easy if you go to class. Great man. Very helpful. U actually learn something in his class and it is not that hard. wonderful person.
trust me, reiner is the coolest english teacher you will find at towson...or anywhere, for that matter. he's really flexible with schedules and assignments, even though there aren't many of them. the final project is a paper where you can write anything you want. he looks like christopher guest from "spinal tap."
The best teacher I've had at Towson. Assignments are extremely easy. He is very flexable with his schedule. Definetly take him!!!
best class ever! 3 papers and a final paper which u can take home. all u ever do in class is workshop the paper u are working on. can pass even if u never go to class. take this class!
TAKE THIS CLASS!! It is easy and he is always willing to help you!!
Great, enthusiastic professor- makes learning fun. Allows you to maintain your creative freedom by letting you write about anything you want. Funny and easygoing guy. Take him!
A great guy. Very helpful and friendly. Learn a lot despite the relatively simple assignments. He comes highly recommended.
AWESOME teacher. Only 3 papers and one research paper, and they do not need to be long. He's all about quality, not quantity. Great guy who is fun to talk to in and out of class. PARTICIPATE - he likes that, as all teachers do, and you will have many opportunities to get help with your papers during workshops in class. Very cool and laid back guy!!
Very easy and you still learn. Class time is spent discussing your next paper, watching a movie, or reading a short story. Papers are easy and he'll take them late. Take home exam which is just a short paper evaluating a poem which he basically gives you the answers to in class. Impossible to get below an A.
you can push any due date back on a paper for up to a month, hes a softie. but what the actual due date is? hes never clear until a day before its due.
He's a cool person and really flexible. His class was the easiest class I've ever taken in my life. It was like 9th grade standard English. Really boring, actually, but also really easy. If you don't feel like trying, take his class.
Really flexible and easy-going. He is interested in helping you become a better writer. TAKE HIM!
EASY CLASS but you actually improve your writing! Helpful and laid back professor. Short and not so many assignments, TAKE THIS CLASS! somedays he would just come in and talk about our paper due the next day and let us go after 20 minutes. paper due dates depended on the class for the most part.
easy class, four papers and a take home essay final don't buy the text it was useless. lets you pick your own essay topics however is very picky about your writing style. I learned a lot and my writing improved greatly after taking this class. Easy A he is a must!
I took him during the '07 minimester and he was a GREAT professor. We watched almost 2 movies a day during the four and a half hour class (he gave us a half hour break.) We wrote an EASY screenplay and turned in one page assignments whenever we wanted. He is a great teacher and a lot of fun. This is an easy minimester or summer class.
easy class. he shows movies a lot. dont buy the text--used it twice but could have gotten away with not reading. the 3 papers are 2-3 pages, which is kinda frustrating cuz u dont get to say much. the "research" paper is 3-5 pages. only complaint: i did my work on time, but always came to class to find out that the due dates were pushed back.
such an easy class. attendance policy sucks, but its that way for all the engl 101 classes. frustrated me that he would extend deadlines at the last minute...meaning ON the day they were due. 4 easy papers.
Very nice man, wants his students to succeed, but he doesn't just GIVE you A's. There are online grammer quizzes that are kind of pointless, but it helps your grade if you do them. You watch a few movies, and he is very approachable. I reccomend taking him.
Easygoing guy and knows his stuff. You'll have a few individual writing assignments as well as a semester-long group project/presentation. He gives you plenty of time to complete everything and is a fair grader.
so easy that sometimes i was wondering if we would actually DO something in class that day! i'm great at english and often found that he made errors, which kinda bothered me. take if u just dont care! otherwise, his lack of caring about actually teaching will just bother you.
Take this teacher, he is a really good guy and wants to see you pass. Go to him for extra help, it will help you and he likes it. gives weekly quizes but are supposed to help you throughout the course. Gives 3 papers (2-3pgs) and a research paper(3-5pgs). Take this teacher, you will not regret him.
Really nice guy. Very helpful. Does a lot of in-class workshops which sounds like a pain but are pretty helpful in the long run. He actually teaches you how to write well unlike a lot of other ENGL102 professors (so I've heard). I would definitely recommend taking him for an easy A.
This teacher was probably the best I have had a Towson. He is extremely helpful and very sweet. Awesome guy!
I took a class with him last summer. Most of the grade for the class is a large group project with a collective grade, but he is very understanding if you have a group member who isn't pulling their weight. He really wants to see you succeed and provides great help.
prochaska is awesome, definitely take him if you get the opportunity. His class is one of the only ones I actually enjoy going to and hes very laid back. Whenever you have a problem hes eager to help and makes all the assignments really clear. Only a few papers all with lots of topic choices, research correctly and youre golden
Nice guy, very helpful, listen and do what little work he asks of you and there won't be a problem.
Class seemed pointless. It was a research class, yet we read essays for a while in the begginning, then started research papers. He cancels two full weeks of class for conferences, plus about 5 days randomly because he is "sick." this class was too easy for me, and i felt like he didnt care about us. He also relies on Blackboard, which sucks.
for a Gen Ed, fairly easy. very clear syllabus with due dates for everything. very communicative. 2 research papers and 1 term paper. veryyy nit-picky for every paper, even homework- helpful, but discourages you when you write the next paper.attendance is mandatory and he encourages participation. ask questions before due dates creep up!!!
Not the most clear as to how to complete the assignments, but you'll be hard pressed to find a more fair and understanding professor. Workload is very low. You have to do a resume and a few letters, and the big assignment is the group proposal due at the end of the semester.
=[ avoid at all costs!
Reiner is awsome. Its a 3 hr class i actually want to go to. He is very nice and extremly helpful. I actually learn stuff in his class but he doesnt ask a whole lot. We watch a movie every other class and write the plot points. 2 major assignments are 30pg scripts ( original or adaptation). Really nice. Must take!
A helpful, easy to understand, laid back professor who knows what he's doing. Class is canceled every friday and every other wednesday and also for about two weeks on two different occasions for individual meetings. Workload is minimal and if you're not an idiot you'll find it fairly easy. Despite this, I feel I learned a lot.
I took a screenwriting class with him, and LOVED every minute of it! He was extremely knowledgeable, lots of fun, and very friendly. There were two installments of an original screenplay, a few pages on plot points of movies, and NO TEXTBOOKS!
I would definetly recommend this class, but I would not consider it an easy A. The work isn't hard, and its never alot. Although, he expects quality over quantity. He grades the big papers fairly, but hard as well. It was a hybrid class so we only had 50% of the actual class time. If you aren't good at writing papers, get better before you take him
I would highly recommend taking this class. He is awesome. Very understanding and helpful. Very nice too, only 3 hour class I actually don't mind going to. Even if you're not good at the subject as long as you try you'll do fine.
The only thing you'll learn from this class is MLA format. Work is like high school english and very easy. He edits your first research paper and you turn it in as your second paper, but he will rip the second one apart. You need to be an excellent writer to get a good grade, he expects a lot. Hybrid class- alternating wednesdays & no friday class.
Very easy class. Prof Prochaska is sooo nice and so cute. He pushes back due dates a lot, so no one ever really does the assignments on time. He pretty much gives you a 100 on everything if you try. Ask him for help/ideas if you need. He is very helpful! Def. recomment this class!
easy assignments like business memos and persuasive letters, one 20 pg group proposal project and presentation, pretty nice and often lets class out early
Since taking this class, I have taken Developing the Screenplay and Brodcast/Film Writing for my EMF major and this was my favorite script writing course. I was able to focus on writing one single script during the semester. He taught about how to improve my writing instead of just how to structure a story like other classes teach.
His class is a breeze. We did our first research paper together as a class so we saw what he wanted for the subsequent papers. Only have class every monday, and every other wednesday. NO FRIDAY CLASS. Make sure your papers have interesting titles... He dropped my grade from an A to a B b/c i didnt. only complaint. He lets you out early often
Interesting class, you get to watch a lot of movies. The workshops are totally pointless though. Just one large script due, lots of small in class assignments. He is nice but I wish he would have been a bit more helpful with suggestions that worked with my script idea.
Prochaska is great!!! Down to the point, easy grader, and helpful when needed! 2 papers 2-3 pgs. and weekly journals about a current event! Take this Class easy A!!!
He is a really easy grader and if you do all your work it's an easy A. He is really helpful for this basic level class
Half of the class was online so that was nice because we only met once or twice a week. He is very approachable if you want help or have questions. As long as you try and improve based on his feedback then this class should be easy.
Absolutely one of the best professors. Very clear, respectful, and helpful. Can be a little challenging with his portfolio responses, but overall, a wonderful professor
If you want an easy english class this is the teahcer to take. There is no books needed and he cancles four weeks of class for confrences. Mr. Prochaska is also a great teacher. He is always willing to help. There a midterm and a final thats it!
I took him for ENGL 102 which was a hybrid class so we only met for 50 minutes on mondays and every other Wednesday. Extremely fair with assignments, we read about a chapter of a book per week and then had a writing response due on Friday. Use office hours, he likes to be on a personal level with students. Would take again
I'm an ECED and need an English in order to graduate. He expected everything to be perfect in our screenplays in order to receive an A. Would put down your ideas and say they weren't plausible to your story. It's a creative writing class, not everything has to be plausible. Would tell you to change something and you do and mark it wrong on final.
He's a nice guy, and very willing to help. It is not too much work for an english class is you're not into writing papers. The class is a hybrid so you never have Friday classes, and only meet Mondays and every other Wednesday. He can be a bit of a tough grader on responses though, but you should be able to at least get a B.
Being a math major, I've never been one for English, but he really made me want to write. From the first assignment, his feedback was both encouraging and constructive. My course was hybrid, so we only met twice every other week. In class is grammar and out of class is short (1 and 12 page) reading responses. Easy A if you put in the work.
The class was clearly laid out and included memos, resume cover letter, persuasive bad news letter, and an awful final group paper. The whole project surrounding the paper is worth 60% of your grade. Really nice guy to talk to. loves theater and acts in his spare time.
Strict about attendance (hybrid class), so if you have 2 unexcused absences you get an automatic F. Very friendly, only 4 grammar quizzes, weekly reading responses, and a term paper. Assignments are generally easy, although he has a tendency to nitpick. Very nice, funny guy. Little pretentious at times. Overall, this was a good class to take.
Really helpful guy, willing to meet with you if you just ask him after class. Really strict on turning things in on time, but is lenient if he can tell that your trying hard with your work. Only 4 grammar tests, 7 readings (they're short). Unfortunately, has the habit of calling students out in front of the class in a way that is embarrassing.
Very easy hybrid class and very few in class assignments. Six page and a half page essays and they were on short readings. Awesome guy and very easy English class.
Easy hybrid class. Really nice guy, very approachable. He clearly explains concepts in his lectures. Weekly assignments that are 1.5 pages, they're not hard but pay attention because he's a tough grader. Very clear what he wants for assignments. You can tell he wants to see everyone improve. Only tests are grammar quizzes which are easy as well.
Prochaska had good reviews so i took him. But he's extremely picky. He'll take points off for a specific criteria that HE WANTS, it's never what i want to put in my paper. You'd think your paper is good, but to him it never is. He's hardcore. Weekly assignments, attendance mandatory, grammar quizzes. Take him if youre passionate about writing.
ENROLL IN THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR! He is phenomenal. So, so, so helpful and kind. Approximately a 30 page group proposal paper due at the end of the semester, but don't let that discourage you - you can choose your topic and it's a guided process. He is more than willing to help you with anything, from resume to grad school application.
Tough grader, but that's to be expected from a writing professor. He assigns a group project that's pretty fun to do. A very useful class that would prepare you; you work on resumes, executive summaries, bad news letter, indirect/direct persuasive message, memos, etc.
He was so annoying. Told the class the first day that no one will get an A. He is rude if you don't want to major in English or theater. Sarcastic and a know it all.
Reiner isn't a bad guy, just a bad teacher. On the first day of class he said, "the highest grade I give out is an 89%" which was very discouraging. You will do a lot of essays based on readings that aren't interesting in the slightest. He also is big into grammar, so definitely beware of that.
it didnt seem like he cares about the success of any student. he said right off the bat that no one would get an a in the couse which is extremely discouraging. he seems to think that his assignments and rubrics are cleae but the writing fellow for our course didnt even know what he was looking for in the papers. he really likes grammar.
He was easy in the beginning then began to grade things extremely hard. You have 4 grammar quizzes throughout the year which are pretty straightforward. Then a reading response due every Friday (which killed me) and then a research paper and a final. I really put in the work in this class but ill be lucky if i get a B plus
No matter how much work you put in, you will not do very good in this class. He says from day one that he does not give A's. He gives you feedback, you apply it to your writing assignments and he takes off points for it. Grammar quizzes are so annoying too. Overall, do not take him. You will regret it.
Reiners class is great to be apart of! You wont regret it one but. He gives amazing feedback to all his students and really improved my writing skills. And can we also talk about how hot he is! He is a massive piece of eye-candy, a silver fox if you would. He is adorable and dont get me started on his smile! What a wonderful teacher and man!
Before you submit your assignment, review it--Begin by assuming its author is less than a person & take every imperfection personally. Now you are in the mind of Reiner Prochaska. Occasionally offered good tidbits of career advice, but comfortably granted 50% on first drafts, then used sass in his negative feedback--unprofessional & disrespectful.
Mr. Prochaska knows and speaks English better than most native speakers, despite it being his second language. He is super critical of your work, but if you actually review and follow his feedback, your final documents will be nearly flawless. Go to his office hours if you need 1 on 1 help. His advice for professional documents is beyond compare.
Professor Prochaska is going to make you work for your grade but in general the work isn't ridiculous. You will have 5 1-2 page papers on some slightly boring reading. And one 3-5 page paper for a final. He teaches well and gives good feedback and enforces office hours. Easy B if you just do the work.
Professor Reiner is a GREAT teacher. He has a very kind spirit and wants his students to succeed. He offers various forms of help in the class and even makes the class hybrid. However, be prepared to hear material that you learned in high school because it is like high school .2 English.
Extremely Harsh Grader. Good Luck Getting An A... If you want your gpa to drop take this course.
Mr. Prochaska is a tough grader, but he is extremely knowledgeable in the field. He will prepare you for the future, and ensure your writing is supreme for when you graduate. I enjoy his classes and teachings. He will ensure you have perfect resume in order to get the desired job of your choice. Dr. Prochaska makes you work for it!
He was the best! He allows 2 missed classes without an explanation and class was canceled most of the time because it was a hybrid coarse. No reading. No tests. Easy quizzes and mini 1 1/2 page papers due every week. Theres one big paper that's only 5-6 pages. As long as you do the h.w once a week you will pass. he cares and wants to give an A.
Prochaska is an amazing professor, I took his ENG 102 as a hybrid course & then COVID-19 pushed everything online. He was very specific in feedback, only one 5 page paper at the end of the semester, 5 weekly essays that did not exceed over 1 1/2 pages, & 4 grammar quizzes. He replies to emails & questions in a timely manner & is reachable.
He was a cool teacher towards the beginning, but after COVID-19 happened and were pushed to do online work, I feel that the class has changed. We also had group projects and he was so harsh and told us to start over. Don't take him. He's also a super tough grader, and even if you take his advice on what to change he still is supercritical.
Alright so Im taking him right now and he is so rude! He literally left a comment on my writing that claims I should just 'delete my whole statement' with no explanation at all. He is very nitpicky and tries to make it seem like he knows everything which he does not because he is just a professor. He takes his job to serious.
Very intensive writing, especially on the term-long group project. He offers flexible office hours and you can get in touch with him very easily. His feedback is extensive where it matters: on the term paper. You get the feeling he wants you to succeed but definitely wants you to work for it.
He is in no way easy but gives you plenty of resources to succeed. Grammar quizzes can kill your grade, but you can make it up on other assignments. I became a much better writer in his class.
he can be reached out of class. he responds to emails and is flexible with deadlines if you're putting in effort. HOWEVER. he clearly has high standards for students and does not support students to reach them. he doesn't research students info before passing it on to other students who will work with it for a project worth 40% of their final grade
He gives extremely thorough feedback and always makes himself available to answer questions. In my class we had a really long semester group project. It was hard but, as long as you ask questions and really pay attention to his feedback you should get a decent grade. He cares about the future of his students. Very fair grader in general and group.
He is just a normal English professor, not too hard. He tells you exactly what he's looking for. He gives a lot of office hours. Super nice. He is grammar heavy. You don't have to take a lot of quizzes, and the longest paper you have to do is 3-4 pages. The other essays only have to be a page and a half. You have to do a few discussion boards.
He is a horrible professor. Taking his class right now and his papers are graded so harshly. Made two errors in my paper and he took off 11 points for them. He just gives assignments and expects you to do well. Barely goes over them, especially the proposal essay. Would not recommend to take him. AVOID if can. I am usually and A+ student.
He's an okay professor, considering this isn't even honors class he's way too harsh on how he grades his assignments. One mistake and thats 10 points off. He invalidates my thoughts and ideas so much whenever I go see him during office hours for help . Avoid if you can!!
He's very nice and the class isn't too bad .If you try your best in this class , you will get up with a good grade.
Very kind professor. Had ten hours of office hours weekly and was always responsive by email. Group projects were graded individually and he genuinely wanted students to learn.
Professor Prochaska is excellent! Go to office hours, and he is willing to help! Starting assignments early, and rough drafts are key, especially starting the term paper early. The grammar quizzes were something I really struggled with, but made it up on other assignments. He was a tough grader, but super willing to work with you. He is very kind!
He is not a good professor. He is demeaning to students and takes things extremely personally. He does not check students' work for accuracy, which makes group work challenging. He speaks ill of past students and does not act professionally. This is, by far, the worst experience I have ever had with a professor. Don't waste your tuition on him
Took a hybrid class with him but never went in person. Uploaded videos lectures that gave any and all details on what assignments were due each week. Super nice dude and would respond within a couple of hours or at most a day if you had a question. It's an awwwful lot of writing but about usual for any english class.
I had a very bad experience in this class. He assigned group projects which he thought would make him look good if implemented on campus. He was demeaning to those who asked questions to which he thought the answers should be obvious. He has a clear idea of what he wants and if that is not met, you are a poor performing student. Very rude and mean.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! i'm not someone who shies away from a hard class, but he was impossible. STRICT grader and wants papers done a specific way but won't say how. the feedbacks are not helpful. 5 comp. quizzes, 4 essays w/ 2 discussions each, syllabus quiz, personal essay, 4 grammar quizzes, term paper, outline, bibliography, course reflection paper.
Professor Prochaska wants you to do well. He gives great feedback on assignments. Instructions and clear grading criteria. If you read the instructions and submit everything before the deadline the you will be fine!
Good professor and the hybrid course structure is great. 4 short research papers (1.5 pages max) and 1 longer research paper (3-5 pages) at the end of the semester. Kinda tough grader but gives detailed feedback on each paper. 4 grammar quizzes and also gives feedback on those. Also plenty of easy smaller assignments to boost your grade.
Prochaska is AMAZING! Hybrid class was very good, met one day in person other days synchronous. He posted videos at were related to quizzes and Ex. credit quizzes. All quizzes were give plently of time to complete. One semester long project, 45% of grade split up into 3 parts. 3 other easy projects. Do all the work on time and well should be good!
Great professor. Easy assignments tbh you just have to time manage because it is a hybrid class. Offered extra credit. Only thing.. rarely gives 100 on assignments you must REALLY read the rubrics. He is very accessible and many times in his office hours gave you answers to the assignments. He is very understanding so just always communicate!
Professor takes English very seriously so be prepared to also overwork for an entry level english class.
Good professor. He gives you clear criteria for each assignment because he wants to see you do well. I might just lack some skills, but like others have said, he rarely gives out A's on assignments—it was always 88%. Be sure to run your work through an AI scanner because I almost failed due to suspicion of AI, even though it was MY authentic work.
Prochaska is a great prof - he gives thorough feedback and makes himself available. The class has a lot of writing, but if you stay on top of it and use study tools like Unstuck study, you can do well. Just be sure to read the rubrics carefully.
This professor had a class that was Mon Wed Fri, but only in person on Monday, so we met only once a week. This seemed cool until I needed help and he only offered office hours at 8-9pm, 2 days a week. I play a sport and cannot be available that late in the night, especially it being after the business day ends. He's nice, but wouldn't take again.
4 reading responses with discussions and 2–3 page papers. Very caring professor and explains everything very well in class. Mainly easy grammar and such taught in class with more reading required out of class.
A paper that goes into three parts, each 15%, Quizzes almost every week, which is 10%, a resume and cover 15%, an executive summary 15%, and a guide creation that's another 15%. He's a strong grader but a good professor. He warns you that the class is labor-intensive, so be warned: if you think this is an easy online class, you're mistaken.
