HE very lazy, makes u read 3 books which are very boring. He doesn't care about his students. Very young teacher, is working a couple jobs and get very tired of teaching so he just uses power points TESTS are VERY HARD! Doesn't have discussions, talks fast about notes, doesn't put stuff up on black board even though he says he will Don't Take HIM!
No textbook, 3 smaller books needed. Areas covered - Salem Witch trials, American Revolution, Whigs. Must read books! Notes are essential but presentation of material is clear. Not very organized but getting better. Has sense of humor but nerdy. Young but fair.
Mr. Cocar seems to know his stuff, however, he has a very boring way of presenting it. I would hope for a little more enthusiasm from a college professor. No textbook used, only three very dry historical books written from one historians point of view. LOTS of reading required which didn't work out well with a very full schedule.
Despite his very, very dry style, I found Dr. Cocar to be very interesting. No textbooks, so you must take notes, but his tests are primarily multiple choice. Last test was almost entirely an essay on the Cold War. I'd take from him again... He took forever to grade tests, though :/
He is not very helpful and he seems to always rush out of class as soon as it is over. He does lecture only and his tests are pretty hard. There were 3 books we had to read and they are a must. He speaks a lot about those books and you have to write several short essays on them. He does not post grades, just midterm and that was it. I would not
This professor is a nice young man. He is so boring though. Everyone in class looks like a zombie when he speaks. I would recommend not taking this class unless you have to. He covers the materials but doesn't use the book? He just lectures on and on and never lets us leave even 2 minutes early.
Mr.Cocar may seem a ta dry at first, but he is an incredible professor overall. His style of teaching revolves around lectures and power points and his tests are Multiple Choice, Essay Q's, and matching. He is also very lenient on scoring tests, but is a bit harsh on the essays. But he loves teaching and he will help you when necessary.
Very good proffesor. he is clear and doesnt gives u Busy Work AT ALL!. his lectures are pretty straightforward and has a sense of humour (a dry one though lol)
Dr. Cocar really knows his material. He is very passionate about it and is great at teaching it. His tests were doable as long as you studied on your own and he did his best to make study guides if the students asked. He grades his essays strictly but you could always send it to him before the due date and he'd be willing to go over it for you.
Regret signing up for his course. I just don't understand how and why he is still a teacher. His tests and quizes are super hard; he'll ask for one thing but then grade it off something totally different. When he lectures he always goes back to refer to another day, which means i have to fine those notes and tie them together. Just awful!!
Professor Cocar is a good professor. He only gives two test, the mid-term and final but his test are all based on the notes. He only lectures but its straight forward. I don't really understand all the bad comments. He dose his job and gives everyone a fair grade. Study the notes and you will do fine.
very fair teacher. a few essays but plenty of time to do them. test are on notes so go to class to get them, he doesnt post them online
Dr. Cocar lectures without any sort of guided notes, which scared me at first, but became easier as time went on. If you don't attend class each day or don't study your notes, you won't do well. I enjoyed his class thoroughly
Dr. Cocar is wonderful! He is very passionate and knows his stuff! Show up, take good notes, put lots of detail in the essay on exams, you'll do well. I disagree with the bad reviews. This is college, no one should expect an easy A just because it's a core class, you have to put in the work, no matter what class or prof it is. Great prof for sure!!
Class was pretty chill. You don't need the textbook, but i heard it is helpful. He uses a power-point to aid with his lectures. Attendences is mandatory because he doesn't post the powerpoints to D2L. He gives you 2 papers and 2 tests. (papers are pretty easy b/c he gives you what to read, and tests consist of multiple choice and essay questions.
Great teacher. Easy and clear lectures. He makes the material interesting. Only hard part is you take just a midterm and a final, so stay on top of your notes.
Great lectures. Only negative aspect of the class is having 4 grades: 2 essays, the midterm and the final. You must come to class in order to get the notes, because he will not post them online and participation is a daily grade.
Dr. Cocar is one of the best teachers I've ever had. You will have 2 tests and 2 papers in the class. I got 100 on all 4. He doesn't use the book. He will explain everything to a T of how he wants it done. his notes are sometimes long and tedious but you learn so much. I am DEFINITELY taking him for 2112
4 grades, 2 essays , 1 miderm, 1 final. articles are based on essays which are super hard to read. do not take!!
This class is awesome! It is super easy, he goes really in detail with the lectures, but still manages to try to get us out of class as soon as he can! He only gives 3 tests, one of which is the final exam. The tests are extremely easy, and he gives very detailed flashcards to study from, which covers everything! I recommend him to anyone!
By far my favorite professor! Of course everyone has there flaws but I have to say his lectures are very interesting. He does a great job explain gin the history from a seemingly unbiased point of view. Will deff take his 2112 class!
Very very nice professor! But beware, he is very slow with his lectures. They are often long and he will assign reading to go with the lecture. Tests are fairly easy if you study the flash cards he will put on quizlet. You will have some papers, but you are given plenty of time and he grades them fairly.
Not the most pleasant fellow but pretty easy if you pay attention and read.
Dr. Cocar is one of the best History instructors I have ever had. I normally find History so boring and for the first time, I can say that I actually learned something because of his class. His lectures are precise and short, he gives several reading quizzes to encourage reading the textbook. Overall, great class and professor. Highly Recommend.
good stuff
Mr. Cocar in all is a good teacher he just talks a lot. The whole class is basically a lecture and then he makes you write a summary on what you learned in class but its not for a grade so its kind of pointless but that's how you get to leave the class so just do it. He grades really slow.
The worst professor i have ever had at GGC! He takes forever on grading. He's a very unorganized individual and is just lazy in general. His grading is confusing. Trust me, don't take him! Find someone else!
Dr. Cocar is interesting. As a person. As a professor he is all over the place. Not many tests, lots of reading quizzes and 9 writing assignments. He wasn't confident on a lot of dates, which made it a little difficult to follow. You'll write summaries of what you learned that day, which I think are mostly for him to see where everyone is at.
This is honestly the hardest class I have ever taken, but he's a good teacher. If you put in the work.. he will definitely try to help you as best as he can.
Professor Cocar is very helpful and good at his job. As long as you pay attention to his lectures, and take notes you will do well on exams. He will give you 2 to 3 sections to read from the book for a quiz, which is typically a three question short answer quiz. **The quizzes are easy as long a you read** Take notes, read the sections -- get an A.
Great teacher, nice and easy to understand. Explains things very well in the lectures. 5 writing assignements and only two tests, which are the midterm and finals. And you read at least some parts of a chapter every few weeks and take a quiz on them. They're easy quizez. Easy class, great guy
He's great at tying concepts together and showing how certain events affected future ones. He loves to answer questions :) Exams (with essay prompts) are based almost entirely on lectures so take thorough notes!! You WILL need them because he does not teach from the text book. Text book is for quizzes. Reading/writing assignments are short and easy
Gives a lot of notes but they're very detailed so it's beneficial. The tests are easy if you study and, always be prepared to give very detailed essay answers! Overall, he's awesome!
lecture every day, writing papers twice a week
Honestly, he is probably my favorite professor. His lectures are thorough and he has a good speaking voice. He doesnt use any PPTs and no textbook. Its really just him talking for like an hour with a reading assignment at the end before you leave class. If your not an auditory learner, or you fall asleep easily, just drop it.
TAKE HIM. His class is simple and easy. He has lectures that can be boring, but they are short and easy to understand. Our only tests are the mid term and final. The only thing we do is take notes on his lectures and do reading assignments that are based off the lecture. The reading is easy and the only ?s are to define vocab and answer 1 or 2 ?s.
He is amazing and always willing to explain anything you do not get. The only test are the midterm and final and he gives easy and helpful reading quizzes. 100/100 reccomend taking.
Easy class to take , lectures all the time and its all written on white board . Hands you alot of reading assignments in class to use with notes but its answering one question and vocab . Take notes and show up and you will pass . Two test only the midterm and final
Class is cut and dry. Not much to it just lectures, reading assignments, and midterm/final. Offers quizlet study guide for midterm and final, although if you don't have class notes you won't pass either of them. Not much to this professor and he's easy to get along with if you are polite and respectful he will be too.
Midterm and final plus lots of reading assignments. Don't miss his class because attendance is important, and you do not want to miss notes. Dr. Cocar is a caring person, and I would recommend him if you are a hard worker.
He is such a great person and instructor. All you have to do is show up and do the reading assignments that he gives after every lecture. (which I always got 10/10) A midterm and a final. Nothing else. Study and you will do fine. EASY A, as long as you try.
I love him as a professor which made me love the class! He didnt go by the book and he didnt use PowerPoint, everything was handwritten notes. Hes easy going, passionate, and explains really well. The test was easy. He does these readings which can be letters or articles from whatever topic we are on and then wed have a quiz. Got an A!
He is fair and reasonable. If you are one to hate heavy lectures and note-taking, I do not recommend his class. The quizzes and tests are easy to prepare for as long as you do the basic duties as a student. Grading is mainly off of knowing the material instead of other criteria such as attendence and class participation.
Awesome professor. If you want an easy informative class take him. Class isnt mandatory, but it helps. A lot of short quizzes, but he gives you a weeks notice. He only gives 2 tests all semester. The final is not cumulative. Some of his lectures last the whole time, but if hes done in 15 minutes, he lets you leave.
This teacher was straight to the point, and that is something I respect and do well with. Lecture HEAVY, be prepared to take notes. no surprises on any of our grades, he informs you and prepares you for everything. No presenting, just lots of reading assignments and studying. Final was all essay questions. Can not fake the knowledge. Study hard
The best professor ever. Taking him for easy A. he is straight to the point and is easy grader if he knows what you are doing. He tells you the essays a head of time.
Great professor. His lectures are on point even though he speaks kinda fast. The reading assignments are easy, but he's really tough on grading exams.
ABSOLUTELY NO MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST. ALL ESSAY/WRITTEN RESPONSES. SOME MAY THINK THIS IS A NIGHTMARE (LIKE I DID AT ONCE) BUT HE IS NOT INTO STRUCTURE OR GRAMMAR, HE JUST WANTS A CONCISE ANSWER TO THE QUESTIONS, EVEN IF THEY ARE IN BULLET POINTS (LIKE I DID FOR QUESTIONS THAT REQUIRED DETAILS & STILL SCORED HIGH). RECORDING LECTURE WILL BE USEFUL.
TAKE HIM!!!!! Like all you do is show up, take notes, and maybe a reading quiz. And if he finishes the powerpoint early, you can sometimes be out of class 20 minutes early! Textbook quizzes are open note and he gives you two weeks in advance to study the material. He has a mid-term and a final which is not bad.

Professor Cocar was amazing. I had him for a hybrid 1102 class, and I would take it again. Hes kind and answers all questions the best he can. We had open note writing quizzes each week except for midterm and final. Hes a fair grader and doesnt really care about grammar or structure, he just wants the knowledge. Super nice (and awkward) guy
Professor Cocar has been my favorite teacher yet. His class work is all reading and essays. If writing is your strong suit, I highly recommend him. I found his class stress free and interesting. You will never have to worry about doing group projects in his class. Simply sit back, listen, and take notes and youll ace the class.
Cocar was a great professor. When he would teach I didn't feel like another boring history class. His lectures were easy to follow and the exams were a breeze. Take notes and show up to class.
If you pay attention in class and look over your notes you'll pass. Literally his test are his lectures and whatever he tells you to read. Just actually understand and remember what he's teaching and you'll be fine.
Be prepared to take NOTES, there are lots of it. If you take good notes and pay attention you are going to find this class to be pretty easy. There are small textbook readings but he gives you enough time to read through it. Honestly recommend this class if you are an auditory learner.
Not the worst professor. If youre a visual learner I would not recommend this class. He lectures everything from memory. Theres a few quizzes, a lot of worksheets, a midterm and final exam. There was a few textbook readings and a chapter book for us to read (it was so boring). Theres also A LOT of writing! Make sure you dont miss a class!
I loved him!! If you are good with writing and taking notes take him he is the best professor. At first I was nervous because we only had 2 major grades but I did well because I sowed up and paid attention. He will help you if you don't understand something, draw it out or reexplain it. Overall I would take him again if I could!
great professor. but i think because i enjoy history in general i did well in the class. but the entire 50 minutes of class was pure lecture. he insists on taking notes, basically write everything he's writing bc it's on his quizzes. he will inform quiz and test dates, and requires textbook reading every now and then. i highly recommend him.
Great professor. His lectures are straight to the point, class work is o easy, tests are easy, reading load is very light, and reading quizzes are very easy as long as you read. He's a very easy grader, and gives you a good amount of time to get reading done. overall, he's very helpful, you won't regret taking this class.
His class seems Intimidating at first but its honestly a pretty cool class. The only downside is that theres no PowerPoint (he lectures from his memory) so you really gotta put in the effort. He gives clear feedback and sets his expectations clear. Guaranteed a B+ or higher if you put in the work!
This class is super easy and stress free to attend throughout the semester but when it comes to the midterm and final, you wish you were dead. There is no exams, only a couple textbook quizzes and midterm and final are 25% of your grade each. He has no powerpoint, all lecture and is a tough grader.
He is a great professor and I should know...I had him for both Hist2111 and Hist2112! Show up, take notes, do well on the quizzes and exams and you should do fine! I liked the way he taught the course. Everything sounded like a story and so it was easy to understand. He always answers questions and would even let us out of class early most days!
History is already one of my favorite subjects and so I do well, but I can easily see people struggle a lot with this class. He is sensible and lays everything out for you. You just have to go to every single class, pay attention, and takes a lot of notes. If you just do that, you'll get an A. But be weary, the only tests are the midterm and final.
Too hard for an intro class
If this class wasnt virtual this semester, I probably wouldnt have learned a thing from this teacher... His lectures are so boring and it sounds like hes just reading off of something that he doesnt even have interest in. No personality and just boring... Most history teachers are amazing but he just wasnt.
Professor Cocar was extremely straight forward with this class. Do what he says and i promise you the class would be a breeze. There is only the midterm and the final for tests and the weekly reading quizzes are extremely easy when you read the textbook which is very light tbh. Overall he was really cool and made the class very easy to pass.
Professor Cocar is one of the best history professors ever. He gives a reading assignment every class thats based on an in class reading and sometimes a textbook reading added on. This man genuinely cares about his students and is a very polite guy. That being said you gotta work. its not hard mostly memorization and take notes on the readings
Professor Cocar was the best History professor! Highly recommend! If you have a hard time memorizing or understanding material do not take. He only gave 2 exams and weekly quizzes. so if you do not pass the 2 exams you wont do well. His lectures are not that long but are packed with information so make sure you listen to it thoroughly!
Mr. Cocar is an incredible professor! I only received the grade I did because I didn't maximize my effort. I learn best through lectures & hist isn't my strong suit. If he see's you engaging in class, he's more than willing to help you out!
Prof. Cocar is awesome! I really enjoyed his class this semester. The class is based on lectures, textbook readings, in-class readings/reading quizzes, a mid-term, and a final. If you show up, take notes, pay attention, and do the readings, then this class is an easy A. If you're not into doing that stuff, I don't recommend this class.
I took Professor Cocar class for Spring 2020 and he was a really great professor! I enjoyed his class because he made sure we understood what he was lecturing. Be ready to go over your notes because if you dont, it is more than likely you will not pass your final or midterm. The class was an easy A if you put in the effort.
The professor's alright, but he has such a monotone voice. His classes are so boring so far: for each class, we take notes from his lecture and do a reading assignment. How dull and boring could the class get? It doesn't hurt to make it a tad bit more interesting and lively, even though he tends to be hilarious at times, which I like.
This professor tends to put in a bad grade at one time but then changes it to a higher grade, instead of putting in the final grade the first time. This can really make students really nervous.
I always thought the midterm for this course was going to have multiple choice questions, but I realized that thats not the case. Itll primarily focus on essays instead of multiple choice questions. That totally sucks, but it is what it is. I just hope it wont be too bad though!
Doesn't give out study guides for the midterm; probably will do the same for the final. Just expects us to go over the notes in order to prepare for the exam; that's it. What a recipe for disaster.
The class itself is bad, but the professor does help when need be. He helped us a ton to prepare for the midterm, and I should know; after applying his tips to my studying, I felt a lot more confident about how I was going to do the midterm when I first saw it. Like I said, the class is bad, but the professor is willing to help.
This guy is one of the MOST caring professors ever! He won't be too harsh on you if you can't make it to class! He's even willing to help you out if need be.
Lectures may be dry at times, but this guy is SO considerate!
Where do I begin? I hear a bunch of students say how polite and funny the professor is, but I totally disagree with the first part. While he may be polite at times, the professor doesn't really have lively conversations with the students; it's all lecture. Him being funny doesn't even come close to making the class enjoyable.
Professor Cocar's class is so easy. You can easily recive an A as long as you pay attention to his lectures and give effort to the reading assignments.
A awesome professor!! Funny and interesting lectures. Reading assignments are always easy.
Good teacher. The class was entirely lecture based. In class assignments and attendance made the 50% of the grade. The mid-term and final were essays based on lectures. Grading was light, and there was a ton of extra credit. Take good notes and come to class, then you will easily pass.
This guy's a hidden gem at GGC. He broke down the course pretty well and laid out everything regarding class. He did this so well that the midterm and final were almost a piece of cake! I highly recommend him!
I took US History 2111 and 2112. He gives a syllabus telling you everything you need to prepare for. He's clever and kind. Always responsive to emails. Attendance is important, take good notes and study them and you'll be good to go! He cares most about the amount of info you retain, so use flashcards. Great professor, would take again if I could!
It was a decently difficult class, and you're only graded on reading assignments a mid-term and the final, and you have to STUDY because they're all written responses. With all that said he told history like a very interesting story and I loved that class.
Great Professor, You have to read alot and answer a few questions with a written response, but all the answers are in the passage and he reads the passage to you. Very chill, isnt agressive at all. Definitely would take his class again, he is a really solid choice. he drops lowest grade at the end of the semester, just dont skip.
Professor Cocar is a fantastic teacher, very intelligent. Make sure you come to class, take notes, and review those notes every week and you will succeed. Really understands history and is always willing to help students before and after class when needed. His lectures help you grasp the ideas and allow you to retain information better.
This course was difficult yes, but attentiveness is important. Showing up, attentiveness, and asking for help is encouraged. Does a great job at keeping people engaged with quirky remarks. The book readings difficult, but combining notes and PROFESSOR-READ reading assignments help tremendously. Truly, my favorite course!
He is a great professor, but if you don't like lecture classes then this isn't the one for you, although for a history class he makes his lectures quite engaging. Beware though the midterm and final are essay based only, so you need to remember everything.
fantastic class and I intend to take HIST2112 from him. His class is extremely lecture heavy but everything is written on the board and he will go over stuff again if you ask. Tests are essay based but are graded on understanding of the content. Emailed me to make sure I was doing okay after I missed a few classes. Really cares! 10/10
Dr. Cocar class is very lecture-based so I strongly recommended not missing too many classes. His note-taking is not the best but is very easy to understand the concept. The grade is made up of in-class readings and two exams. Only "homework" would be to study but that's it. Very easy class to pass as long as you show up !
Very simple and easy class however the professor shows complete lack of interest in subject and gives information on such a surface level that it borders on being wrong at points. Almost every class has a 'reading assignment' which he chooses to read out loud while explaining it which happen to be the same questions asked on the assignment below.
Overall great professor, attendance is highly recommended. Pay attention in class and take notes, and study for the occasional reading quizzes from the textbook. Midterm and final are each 25% of grade, both based on essays with a few multiple choice questions. 45% of the grade is reading assignments given out in class with a few questions.
Classes are mainly lectures with a reading assignment (a passage & 3-4 open questions) every week, which he reads out loud and explains. There are a couple of textbook quizzes, but he allows written notes. No big tests besides midterm and final. He was really nice and cared for his students, even through email. I highly recommend his class!
He is super nice, thoughtful and humorous. Lecture is on whiteboard. Don't skip class because there's reading/ textbook assignment almost each week. They're not hard at all. Midterm and final are essay and he grades based on your understanding. He usually reminds us about the essay topics so you know what you'll write about even before the exam.
Getting a good grade isn't hard in this class, at least it shouldn't be. I'm not a history buff, but Prof. Cocar made it entertaining to listen to. People complain about having few things to grade on, but that means less memorization, right? Just make sure to study and memorize for the essay exams. TAKE NOTES for the weekly in-class quizzes.
Great professor. Chill guy and really seems dedicated to educating
Favorite professor. He will answer any questions you ask and is VERY flexible with grading. He gives many reading assignments and a couple of textbook quizzes; you can use notes for all of them. Show up to class, otherwise you might miss a reading assignment. He drops three grades at the end of the semester. Midterm is 1 essay, final is 2 essays.
He is a very kind and caring professor don't be intimidated by him just because he has high expectations from students. Remember to record his lectures, take notes and don't skip class on assignment days. He is also willing to drop two bad grades at the end of the semester. Just stay focused and you will defintely pass. I passed with an A.
Dr. Cocar is an amazing professor though I do not recommend him if you want an easy A. You do have to work for your grade by attending most (ideally all) classes and studying your notes regularly. His tests consist of a couple of multiple choice questions and the remainder is short answers/essays. STUDY and you will pass!
Professor Cocar was very caring, and he was understanding of each student's needs. I learned a ton of US History from his class. Just pay attention to his lectures, then you will be fine.
Professor Cocar was very caring, and he was understanding of each student's needs. I learned a ton of US History from his class. This was my first history class, and I was enjoying it. Just pay attention to his lectures, then you will be fine.
Just do the reading and take notes for the quizzes. The quizzes are basically given to you as he reads each paragraph for you, then explains what he read. He explains his lectures very well, it's easy to understand.
Follow the lectures and memorize the essay outline for the exam. Do the work and you will succeed, which is true for all classes. Like why are we even saying that?? Ofc you have to do the work, you want professors to just hand you A's?? Yall are crazy thinkin life will be easy. Wake up call, IT'S NOT. stay hard. -David Goggins
If you show up, take good notes, and use flash cards, you will do well. He responds to emails quickly and gives some opportunities for extra credit. Other than that, he is kind, helpful, intelligent, and VERY funny if you pay attention, he adds in little comments throughout his lectures. I almost switched to a history major due to him.
If you show up, take good notes, and use flash cards, you will do well. He responds to emails quickly and gives some opportunities for extra credit. Other than that, he is kind, helpful, intelligent, and VERY funny if you pay attention, he adds in little comments throughout his lectures. I took him twice, but would again if I needed another history
EASY CLASS, CARES ABT ATTENDANCE SO SHOW UP!! when you take notes copy what he says and not what he writes trust me. Its an easy A. if u understand his notes then you'll 100% pass the class. when i mean straighfoward i mean it! Theres a reading assignment EVERYWEEK but its opennotes. TXT chapter quizzes as well W OPENNOTES. Just be PRESENTT!
He is very nice and I like how he explains things to you, he gives reading assignments, but he basically reads them to the class and he will pause and explain the passage and continue reading and so on. His lectures aren't long and the assignments are not hard ( they are open notes) once done you can leave. I 100% recommend it.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!!!! I have no words to describe him. Very calm, chill, and nice guy. His lectures are very engaging and he uses simple English words for his lectures. There are reading assignments, notes quizzes, and textbook quizzes. If you are taking him, it's an easy A if you work hard/ pay attention in his class. 2 essays for final exam.
He is a fantastic professor and his class is easy. There is a pretty good amount of quizzes and assignments, but they are open-note. He'll also give out reading assignments, but will read them them to you and essentially gives you the answers. For the midterm and final, he'll tell you what on it and the rubric for the essay. Take his class!
I have never been of fan of history but he taught his lectures in the most funniest way possible. His lecture are pretty quick paced so write what you hear and use audio recording. He just gives daily reading assignments the only heavy work is the midterm and final, and even that is super easy given he tells you what will be on it. 100% recommend.
Professor Cocar is very passionate about teach History one of my BEST professors. Taking notes in this class is very important; not just what he writes on the board but what he says in his lecture. He grades very easy. Take him you won't regret it.
Professor Cocar is an amazing professor. If you attend class, take notes, and show up to test review sessions you WILL succeed in his class. His midterm is a big part of your grade so make sure you give as much detail in your essays on the exams. Attending class is important/mandatory as he gives out reading quizzes and tests. Would take it again!
Just go to his class tbh do not miss one day. all of his assignments are in class, he does not do makeup work. he's an old school professor he doesn't use any devices. if you are a bad listener or cant understand his hand writing u might have to teach yourself with youtube videos. keep all assignment he gives bc it will be on midterm/ final.
Professor Cocar has a great teaching style, he does not use PP which I think is amazing. Quizzes are open notes and tests are based off the quizzes. The only difficult part was the essays on tests, just make sure to be detailed. Most grades come from in class readings and you MUST be present, there are no make-ups for them. He is funny and nice!
His classes were really easy to follow and his quizzes are all open notes as well as textbook quizzes just have to be hand typed or printed if digital
Attendance is absolutely mandatory because he does not do makeup assignments. 95% of assignments were extremely easy and textbook quizzes were open notes. Essays were very easy if you knew good detail about the prompt. He gives the prompts weeks before so you know exactly what to study. Take notes on everything and you will pass.
One of the best professor I have ever read. Makes history entertaining.
You are guaranteed an A if you show up to class and take notes. His lectures are clear and don't take the whole class duration and will end about 15-20 minutes early most times. He gives out quizzes and in-class readings that aren't worth many points but accumulate a lot at the end. We could always use our notes except for the final and 2-3 exams.
Passionate teacher, when he grades homework and check ins he's pretty passive about it. Though, he'll flip the switch with mid terms and final exams. He wants as much detail in the essays, but overall he thoroughly explains it through the lectures, and is unintentionally funny.
He is a very good professor and his lectures make a very crystal clear timeline of the events. Be ready to write a lot but it's worth it. He's easy to get in contact with if you miss a class and is willing to help out.
Best professor in the entire school. His lectures are easy to follow and mirror exactly what you'll find on the various in class assignments. Show up to class and put in consistent effort throughout the semester and the class will be an easy A with professor Cocar.
He brain dumps on the board but in a way that makes sense. He dumps on the board but explains it very well. If you actually listen and pay attention he can throw in jokes that are pretty funny. He gives reading assignments from a book but you can use nos just note down what you read in the book and you'll be fine. No test but there's a final
He is a good professor who cares, he will answer any questions that you have. The pop quizzes are often open notes, and his lectures are very easy to follow.
He a good professor you do take a lot of notes. Tests are pretty easy reading assignments are pretty easy. Attendance is mandatory.
He's a cool dude just show up to class and you'll pass.
Dr. Cocar is a great professor overall. Attendance mandatory because all of class grades is in class-quiz so if you miss it, you won't be able to make up. He does drop few grades. Show up and take note from the lecture and you will be fine for finals, midterm and pop quiz. He will go over in class quiz and lectures for questions before exams.
Professor Cocar's class is super straightforward - attend, take notes, and you're guaranteed an A. The quizzes are easy, and unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam prep. Engaging lectures make this history class tolerable.
Dr. Cocar is one of the best history professors I've had! I would advise attending every lecture unless he sends an email stating that the class is canceled. The lectures are the most important part of the course, and his teaching style is easy to understand.
Dr. Cocar gives all the necessary information you need for assignments & exams. Doesn't make it difficult & creates entertaining, straightforward lectures. He is easy to get in touch with. Attendance does matter and there is a short assignment almost every class. Overall, you won't regret this class, take it.
Dr. Cocar was an AMAZING professor. His lectures were so so interesting. Extremely lecture heavy (notes on technology or paper; your choice), but he made it so interesting. Everything that we did in class was SIMPLE yet SO EFFECTIVE; when it came to learning the content. Such a great professor and would 10/10 recommend for first years!
Before taking this course I thought I was making the right choice until I learned this was his first time teaching online which Is obvious people will use the internet but I didn't think once I'd get accused for prior knowledge he rlly just assumes it's all cheating and we all get in trouble for it
“He was extremely strict with grading and had unrealistically high expectations for his first time teaching online. He assumed everyone used AI and left snarky comments under my work, implying I cheated even when I didn't. If he can't adapt, he shouldn't teach online. He'll probably think I used AI to write this too. I withdrew immediately.
This teacher's online class was a nightmare. His grading was harsh and unrealistic, assuming everyone used AI, even when we didn't. Instead of constructive feedback, he left rude comments questioning the legitimacy of our work. His class lacked proper guidance, and his approach was unhelpful.
fall 2024, in person. simple class, show up, take notes and study. If I remember, there are 2 texts books Both are required! Fast paced class but I recorded the lectures and if you take good notes, you'll be fine. He is very thorough with his lectures, you can tell he is VERY passionate about History. very helpful but only if you ask for help.
Amazing professor! Had him for my 9am class Fall24. Would take him again if i had the chance. Fav professor by far. Get ready for note taking an reading text book for hw. Quizzes/writing assignments at least once a week but it's easy if you attend his class. Explains v well and is open to questions during lectures. Funny guy and well spoken 👍👍👍
hes chill and funny during lectures. he makes them short. theres a short assignemnt or quiz nearly every class so attendance is crucial. notes and comprehension are also very importnat bc the tests make up a big part of your grade. hes always open to questions. the textbook is optional
He was my favorite professor this semester!! He makes it almost impossible to fail, just show up to the lectures, take notes and asks questions and you are guaranteed an A. It is extremely clear he is passionate about U.S History. Class was never boring , not just because on the content but also his humor . He is hilarious!
Dr. Cocar was one of my favorite professors to take. He sets a very high standard for what a good professor should be like. Great teacher. If you pay attention, you'll get an A.
He was literally the best professor anyone can ever ask for. His class is really straightforward and he got straight into the lecture the first day. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will literally pass because he gives you the answer to everything, even the essay, and we literally have 2, one for the midterm and one for the final.
Honestly, probably the best history class I've ever taken. He explains the lectures in a concise way & has a dry sense of humor. Quizzes were open note & he gave us the Essay Final/Midterm questions ahead of time. Class almost always got out early. Highly recommend.
There a lot of notes ( its like 20 minutes so not that long). There is reading assignment but its not that hard because sometimes he tells you if you listen. There no tests beside midterm and final which is writing and multiple choice which is from the quizzes. The quiz are short and not that hard because its open notes. I would take him again.
Dr. Cocar is a super chill guy. Really easy going and a great professor. Quizzes are open note and easy as long as you show up and take notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's really the best and only way to make sure you are getting the information you need for the final. Really easily and light load class!
chill dude
Lots of writing and notes, he writes everything on the board and talks through it. Not super hard to follow but you need to be paying close attention, very open to questions. Attendance is necessary all work is in person, some reading assignments, short open note quizzes, two exams both are written and have very heavy weights on grade!
