This Supply Chain Management class has really increased my knowledge of procurement and how it plays a role in everyday life. Procurement is very important to all companies and it was very interesting seeing it play a role in his real world examples. He's a great Teacher!!
Van Hoek is an excellent teacher and is very knowledgeable in Supply Chain.
This class is based off of the lecture videos and readings out of the book. He is very helpful outside of class and ready to go over anything with you when needed. The class is hard, not an easy A, but doable if you stay on top of the work load and really study for the tests. There are 3 tests, an assignment, and a final.
Professor Van Hoek is extremely knowledgeable in the field of Procurement with an extensive work history with huge companies world wide. He makes learning about the procurement process intriguing. This is not a class for an easy A, as you must put in the time and effort to achieve a decent grade.
Great professor who really knows what he is talking about. The class is all tests so be ready to study.
Took this course online. Dr. van Hoek provides great videos that cover the course material and is very helpful and willing to go over things if you meet him. Ton of industry experience and examples.
Took this course with Remko Van Hoek online. Your grade is just 4 test and a written assignment, no quizzes or practice assignments . This is not an easy class, but Remko goes through the materiel very well and has lots of real life experience to help you succeeded.
The class itself is hard material if you need the class he is a good professional to take. Being online the lectures are the most informational and professional I have ever had for an online class. If you are just needing a business elective I dont have an interest in supply chain, Id recommend easier classes unless youre willing to work.
Dr. Van Hoek is a very intelligent man. 4 online exams and one big assignment. More flexible grading scale. 86 and up is an A, 76 and up is a B, and so on. He provides real world knowledge and experience so you can fully understand the material and how it applies. I loved getting the opportunity to apply that knowledge towards the project.
Remko Van Hoek is a great professor. It is not a easy A class, but you will learn many things about procurement if you pay attention in the class. He also explains concept with real world cases, you will understand concept easier.
This was a challenging class but is definitely do able if you do your required readings and take notes on the videos. Definitely learned a lot more than I thought I would in this class!!
This class was not overly difficult by you must watch and understand the lectures fully to have a chance at a B and I recommend reading if you are doing poorly after watching the lectures or are really striving for an A as there are not a lot of opportunities to make up missed points. Overall a great class.
The course consists of watching videos and reading from one text book. The overall grade is based on four test and one paper. Take notes and read the chapters. He provides extra videos &articles to enhance the students knowledge. Dr. Van Hoek demonstrates a superior knowledge of supply chain management. I recommend this course for business majors.
Dr. Van Hoek is a really good professor. There are only 5 grades for the whole semester tho, so you really need to make sure to study for the exams and do the case study. But his video lectures are helpful and engaging. He's willing to help you out if you have questions. Take his class if you can.
Learnt a lot about procurement and the lecture videos actually make sense even to non-supply chain majors.
Dr. Van Hoek is well respected in the business world and is a great instructor. I took the class online and I found that I could never study enough for the exams. This class is also only worth 100pts, so good luck getting an a. Overall, it's a good class and Dr. Van Hoek knows his stuff
I'm an accounting major who took this class as a business class credit and really enjoyed it. The content was interesting and the professor was a fair grader. It was challenging, but not so difficult that you wanted to pull your hair out. Definitely would recommend this class and professor.
I took this class online and there's Very minimal work which was nice if you have a busy schedule but I still learned a lot. Grades are made up of 4 tests and a paper or 2 and you're allowed to use a specific handout for the tests as well. This class was challenging but it really made me learn a lot and think from the industries perspective.
The class was very interesting but my only gripe is that there are only 100 points for the entire class, 4 tests & 1 paper. A majority of students emailed Remko asking if there were any ways we could get extra credit and thankfully he was gracious enough to help us out - I know that if he wasn't willing to help the grade avg would be much lower
This class is difficult with 4 test and 1 paper. He is very helpful when help is needed and reading the text book is needed along with watching his videos. The videos are very helpful and helped me succeed in the class. He is a very good teacher and I would take him again for another class.
I took his online class. The grade consists of 4 tests and 2 writing assignments. Each test has 20 questions and you're allowed to use a cheat sheet that he made. If you watch his lectures and take notes, you should be fine. Overall, he is a great professor and I would take him again.
Remko is a very knowledgeable professor who clearly loves what he does. What I don't like about this class is that it's comprised of only 4 exams and 1 case study, all which are 20 points each. It's nice to not have a lot of work, but that means you have to really be on top of your reading and do really well on the exams and case study.
This online class consists of 4 tests and a case study each worth 20 points. While it was nice to not have a lot of work due, it makes each opportunity crucial to do well. Dr. Van Hoek is clearly well-qualified and does his best to make the class valuable for any business student. He is good about helping his students and is passionate.
Professor cares about his students and is clear and precise with his videos that he uses to prepare his students for tests. 1 essay and 4 tests so if you stay on top of things its a class worth taking.
Class was difficult at first but gets easier later on. Grade is made up of mostly tests. Lecture videos gave most of what you will need to do good. Overall pretty good class
Run while you can, these reviews gave me a sense of confidence entering this class that I will not have when I leave. Between his incredibly difficult (and short) tests, and his impossibly graded case study I'll be surprised if I leave his class with a C. As a straight A student I don't know where he goes so wrong, good luck.
This dude is absolutely terrible. Right now in my class, NO ONE has an A. 1 person has a B, the rest of us are C or below. The quizzes are hard and misleading. He makes your write a case study even if you write it perfect he will give you a 15/40. He really just sucks dont waste your money on this professor
Dr. Van Hoek is an extremely qualified professor with an amazing, inspiring career in the supply chain industry. Although his class is challenging (few total points, test-heavy, short exams), Dr. Van Hoek makes it clear that he loves what he does and is here for you! He is not the type to give up on his students as long as they don't give up on him
Dr. Van Hoek is a great professor and has some of the best credentials in the Walton College. There are not a lot of points in the course, however you will do fine if you put forth the effort. Don't take this class expecting a walk in the park.
Dr Van Hoeks source wars is definitely one of the more difficult classes I have taken. In saying that I have learned a lot about the journey of procurement. If you put in the time and effort you will succeed in his class.
Professor Van Hoek makes this course very entertaining. Though it is a hybrid class (online and in person), the lecture videos are very helpful and essential for doing well in the class. Watch the videos, take notes, and come to class ready to engage.
This class can be super easy and enjoyable IF you watch all lectures and don't miss any quizzes. Focus on understanding the concepts and you will do well! Dr. Van Hoek is a caring professor who wants students not only improve their grades but is also passionate about this PROCUREMENT.
Dr. Remko was great, he really cares about what he's teaching and wants his students to succeed. If you watch the lecture videos and take the quizzes every week, you'll be fine.
This was a tough class. However, I walked away with a lot of valuable tools that I know I will put to use in the future. You're going to have to really work at this class but it's worth it. Professor Van Hoek makes you think more critically and his Jedi trainings are can't miss!
You have to work for your grade, but if you do the weekly quizzes and watch all of the lecture videos you will be fine! Dr. Van Hoek is very knowledgable in procurement, and does everything he can to help you succeed in and out of the class. Definitely recommend!
Cares extremely for his students' success. Going to class is not necessary.
Dr. Remko Van Hoek is a great professor. That being said, this was a hard class for me. I wasn't able to see past quizzes or tests so I had no idea what I missed. There are 4 test worth 40 points and a case study plus weekly quizzes. Class total is 300pts. Not much room for error. I am normally an A student but will be lucky to get a C.
Dr. Remko Van Hoek is very knowledgeable and shares it with his students. This class was tough, and although I did well on most of the quizzes, the tests were very difficult. I'm normally an A student, but will likely get a C this semester. Spend as much time as possible reviewing for tests!
Remko's class is not too hard if you go to class and reach out to him outside of class when you need help. He is extremely passionate about teaching his students. A lot of what I have learned will be very applicable in the real world.
This class was tough but he is a fair professor and wants his students to do well. Watch and rewatch the online videos he posts. Attendance is not mandatory but it is beneficial.
This class was great & gave me a lot in insight into the supply chain industry and how procurement play a role in every part of a business. It really opened my eyes and gave me a different perspective on procurement. I enjoyed his videos (although some lengthy) and his tests were very manageable. Not overloaded with homework, straight to the point.
Remko is fine. He cares about his students and is really goofy and knowledgeable but this class kind of kicked my ass. The videos are fun to watch but can be long and the tests have been difficult. If you don't understand the complete ins and out of procurement by the end of it, you're screwed. More work than you think, been a little frustrating.
One of the best professors I've had. Cares about seeing you succeed in your career. I would suggest participating in class to get a better grasp of the material.
Definitely would not reccomend if you are trying to finish strong at the University. Extremely hard class. Teacher teaches one thing and tests on another. DONT TAKE THIS COURSE!!!
Remko is a wonderful professor and to have someone with his credentials teach this course is invaluable. If you want to feel more knowledgeable and equipped for the real world, take this class. Wu-Wisdom: Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you have not planted.
Dr. van Hoek is a great professor and it shows in his video lessons. It is a bit challenging as the quizzes are short and questions are self-made so it pushes you to learn and understand the material better. If you want to slack of and pass that probably won't happen.
Hard class. The questions on the tests trip me up everytime! The test questions contain a lot of questions where you have to select multiple answers. These are always tricky and confusing. The professor himself is good and cares, but get ready to grind in this one.
Remko, although knowledgeable, is not that good of an instructor. If you like supply chain, you'll like this course. If you don't, don't bother with this class. Tests are worded poorly. He does not grade generously on the Google case study either.
Dr. Van Hoek is a very respected and knowledgeable professor. One of the best in WCOB in my opinion. Take notes during the lecture and youll pass. The case study is more difficult but he gives great feedback. All in all, my advice is to take this class. The content is applicable and valuable to every type of business major.
It is a really tough class and you have to put a lot of time into studying the materials but the class is interesting overall and if you watch all the videos and go to class then you should be fine.
It all about the extra thing that are done in this class. You get so much more in outside professionals coming to class to talk about what going on in the real world.
Remko is a great example of a teacher who cares about his students' success and understanding of the material. The class is challenging but with his enthusiasm and knowledge of the subject and if you're willing to put the work in you will be fine and actually learn a lot.
This professor does care about your success in the class. The problem I had with this class is the tests are extremely hard and very hard to understand. The videos he puts online are somewhat helpful but will not help guarantee a good grade on any of the quizzes or tests. Going to class does help with your success in the course, but still hard.
Although this course is challenging, he wants his students to succeed. His passion for sourcing/procurement is evident in his commitment to the course. The tests and the written assignment is tough, but the more you ask for help the more successful you will be in this class. Class is not mandatory, but is your chance to be attentive and engaging.
This online class taught me a lot about the role of procurement in the real world. Dr. Van Hoek cares about the success of his students, and will help you understand the material for this class through his online videos. This class is more application based, but you can do well if you study properly.
Dr. van Hoek truly cares about his students and wants them to do well. He is always available for help and feedback. Course is still difficult. Prepare to study. Great professor!
He is very engaged and cares about his students.
Professor Remko is a very smart guy with lots of industry experience. He also teaches using more visual diagrams and less words, which I find valuable. A lot of my classmates had a hard time understanding the course material and doing well in the class and took out their frustrations on him, which I don't find fair. I highly recommend his course.
Dr. Remko is a highly skilled professor in the field of procurement and supply chain. As your professor, you will learn a lot of new things. The quizzes are hard but you can achieve a decent score if you pay attention to the videos posted. The total grade is 300 so the margin to get an A is small. Be prepared and pay attention! Great class!
This class consists of unit quizzes, tests and one paper. If you go to class and watch the online lectures you will succeed. Although this was one of my tough classes I feel that I have taken away the most practical and applicable knowledge.
Dr. Van Hoek is a great professor who is genuinely passionate about what he teaches. Although this was one of my more challenging classes this semester, if you go to class, participate in discussions, and watch the video lectures, you should have no problem being successful.
This class required a good amount of time. Remko wants his students to pass so he will help you succeed. I took the online version made a B
If you're looking to further your knowledge of procurement and supply chain management, I cannot recommend this class enough. I left each class so excited about my career. This class will push you & is not easy, but very worth every second. Dr. Remko is more than qualified to teach this class. Take this class if you get the chance.
Dr. van Hoek is a professor that is very enthusiastic about his field (procurement) and has the knowledge and experience to use that to its fullest extent when teaching. However, you have to be prepared to earn your grade which isnt a problem if you use the lessons he gives you in class. Also, the class makes more sense if youve watched star wars
Dr Van Hoek is a nice guy and a knowledgeable teacher thats always willing to help students struggling in class. That being said, the class is not easy as you need to pay close attention and take notes over the material he provides in class and the lecture videos. If you want feedback, meet him in office hours.
A great class to take. Remko is an industry leader! This guy literally wrote the book. He has great enthusiasm as well. He makes you work for your grade, but it's worth it. I can envision using everything he's taught us in a future career. Would definitely take again...
Overall, this class was difficult although Remko Van Hoek really cares about procurement and teaching. If you have any questions he is willing to help. The class was difficult although if you study and ask questions when you don't understand something you should do average or above average.
There is no doubt that Remko knows what he's talking about when it comes to supply management. He is passionate about teaching and has plenty of life experience to back up his lectures. The one bad thing I have to say about this class is that the tests are garbage. They do not relate to material taught very well. Definitely not an easy A or B.
He is a difficult teacher but he cares about his students.
get ready to study your butt off and still not do good on exams. he's an awesome teacher and knows his stuff but its very hard to predict what is on the exams or what you will need to study for exams. if youre like me (work hard for good grades) then this class will probably upset you. I enjoyed the lectures, but the hardest class I've ever taken!!
Great professor with lots of career relevant experience. Very demanding grader, and specific on his wants. Getting the grade is difficult, but the real life feedback through his knowledge and experience e is worth it if you're interested in supply chain as a career.
Great teacher that cares about his students. I really valued his professional experience, but the class was a bit tough. Tests were hard and you have to take lots of notes, but even then, a good grade is not guaranteed which was a bit frustrating.
Although this class is difficult, Remko is a great professor and just wants to see his students succeed. He is very helpful so don't be afraid to email him or talk to him during his office hours. The quizzes we take every week do require some time so make sure you don't procrastinate and do them last minute! Just work hard and connect with Remko!
This course is challenging, but he lets you know that at the front and he also says if you buy into the course you will succeed. He has a great passion for sourcing and procurement and he wants you to understand the course and be able to use what you learn outside the classroom. This is a great course and a great professor!
This course is definitely not easy but it is good course. Van Hoek is a great professor that is passionate about his course. Mainly tests and weekly quizzes.
Dr. Van Hoek's class was a challenging but very rewarding class. He cares so much for the success of his students. His attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go your simply not going to get all the material needed. I would honestly take him again in the near future.
Great class culture BUT tough class overall. Weekly quizzes require a great deal of time studying online class material then when begun, absolute curveball. Same with tests. In hindsight, consulting Remko is the only way to crack the code...I think? Still not sure as most students in the class struggled...
His class is very difficult but he cares about his students. If you put in effort you will definitely pass. Show up to class and do the work.
His class was one day a week with lecture videos for the other day. As long as you watch the videos and take notes in class you will pass.
This class is challenging but not impossible. You definitely need to study and go over the material a few times for tests. Professor Van Hoek is one of the most knowledgeable professors I have had and is willing to help is students succeed!
Remko is an impressive business professional. His resume is unbelievable, but as a professor he was probably the least enjoyable person Ive had in my 4 years at UofA. He ties everything in to Star Wars which is not relevant at all, hes a hard grader. Tests are hard, and if you ask questions in class he answers them with a question.
Remko is very knowledgeable but somethings are not that clear but hes a good teacher. On the test you are allowed to use a packet with some guides but didn't know that till the 3rd test. Class is interesting but make sure you watch all the videos cause that is where all the answers are.
Remko cares and wants his students to learn more than anything. This is a challenging class but so beneficial in so many ways. He brought speakers in fromWalmart and Google to talk about real stuff in the business world. If you are struggling go and talk to him because he will help and be happy to help. Great Class, Challenging, but worth it!!!
This class will make you think and work very hard. It was not that hard of a class if you're willing to put in the time and effort. Dr. Van Hoek is a fantastic guy who really cares about his students and attempts to make class fun. If you make and effort you can do well.
Van Hoek is a good professor! I was a little worried at first, but as the class progressed things turned out well. Provides enough opportunity for grade improvement. Quizzes and tests aren't bad if you study and know the material.
The hybrid class is great - going to class isn't necessary but is nice to have as an option if you have more questions. The video lectures were easy to understand and typically were 5-10 minutes long, but the textbook is a waste of money (as usual) and there were some interview videos that were also time consuming (material not on the test).
Great professor who really wants you to understand the concepts - not just memorize material. Focus on the topics he sends you of practice questions for the exam - they are usually very similar to the types of questions he asks on the exam. The course handout is your best asset! If you learn to understand and utilize it you will do great!
Very Knowledgeable professor, gives good real world examples. Videos of interviews with people leading Procurement innovation. This is a challenging class, you have to understand the concepts he teaches you and be able to apply them to real world.
There are many videos on the blackboard so you can them by yourself at any time, and the speech is clear and fun.
Watch the lecture videos prior to every class, it will help you understand the concepts he discusses. This class was challenging but if you show up to class, participate and visit him in office hours you will understand the concepts.
Professor Remko Van Hoek. He taught me a lot through class and online instructional videos.
I think the cource can be more interesting.
Dr. Van Hoek is an interesting professor. He has ample amounts of knowledge and does a fine job at teaching about his knowledge. He will make you work for it so do not be surprised to find the class a little difficult.
Dr. Van Hoek is understanding and quick to respond to questions and emails. I would take a course with him again.
The text book should not be required. Study the videos and lecture notes and youll be fine.
remko is one of the hardest professors i've ever had. The test were way harder than expected and even when I studied for days I still didn't do well. But, Remko does believe in second chances. We had to write a memo over a case study and he let everyone redo it when we didn't do well the first time. Won't take him again, but I do respect him.
Well, course calendar works well for this class, professor Van Hoek has a clear time schedule. However, this lecture has many videos to watch, the quiz questions and exam questions are both tricky to answer, so hard to get a good grade, though the content provided is specific and valuable. If you like to challenge yourself, good chance!
Literally just don't take this class. This class is way harder than it needs to be just literally save yourself a colossal headache.
Van Hoek is great, the hybrid class allows you to learn and recall information outside the class that is reinforced in the lectures
Amazing content and interesting guest speeches, you dont need to worry about notes because you could review from class videos
This Professor is an actual walking success story of procurement. His class Equips you with useful information and is backed up with his experience. He is an incredibly nice guy who honestly cares about his students success and if you just go to class and show him that you care too he will help you do great.
The class was difficult and the lectures didn't match up with the tested material well. Take a different class if possible.
I took Remko for Procurement and SCMT, and honestly this class was the hardest class I've taken in a while. The material isn't dense, but the way the material is tested on, is difficult. Make sure you know the ins and outs of all of the material, and actively watch the videos. Going to class doesn't hurt either.
Professor Remko is very knowledgeable and experienced. But if it tells you anything, this class ended my 4.0 streak. The information is interesting but the tests have so many trick questions- it was frustrating.
Very challenging class with only 300 points. Almost impossible to get and A
Van Hoek is one of the best professors I have had in college. He is understanding, fair and easy-going. I encourage you to take his class, because I didn't care much for supply chain but after this course I am more interested in going into procurement as a career. Remko does not waste your time in class. It's worth taking and you need to work hard!
This professor cares about his students. The tests are very hard but if use the material given out and are good at taking notes then you should do fine.
He is a great professor with knowledge and experience, and very wise. For the class itself, if you want to learn and use it for the workforce in the near future, he is highly recommended, but if you want a good grade, this is the class that you will have to work hard for what you want. Take a lot of notes and attend class, it helps!
Very professional, willing to help student succeed.
Dr. van Hoek is a great professor. He cares about his students and really wants to see them succeed. The class is not easy and there are a lot of complicated ideas. Along with this, you won't be able to find answers online, so it's important that you use the lectures and readings. Overall, if you need this class, Dr. van Hoek is a good choice.
Professor Van Hoek is an awesome professor. He makes the class fun and engaging. Now he can be a bit strict when it comes to grading, for example there is a mandatory Case Study Memo and he doesn't go easy, however he does provide useful feedback and lets you try again. Some people have criticized him for it, but you should ignore them. He is great
Great professor and is very knowledgeable. Therefore, he expects a lot out his students. His tests are difficult so take notes and pay attention to specific detail.
Professor Van Hoek cares about his students but doesn't teach what's on the tests during class. Tests are very difficult and i almost never knew what to study. Graded by few things. Mostly online. Would stay away from this professor
You must take good notes, he allows them when taking the test. Make sure to watch all videos, or the quizzes are very difficult. He is very knowledgeable and expects a lot.
The professor invites industry leaders to give lectures in the classroom, providing cutting-edge experience sharing.
This class is not an easy A. You definitely have to work for the grade you want but, Remko cares a lot about his students and has a lot of knowledge to share with the class. You have to watch the videos and take really good notes but getting a decent grade is not impossible. He tries to do all he can to help out his students.
You can learn a lot of things from his class! There is only one thing that is hard, to get A, you should really understand what is mentioned in videos and get high scores in quizzes and exams.
Has incredible, real world experience in procurement. His online lecture videos were very well done, you will learn a great deal in this class. Tests got increasingly harder as semester went along but nothing too difficult. Will require some time every week-but well worth it. Awesome class, not too hard
The course should not be difficult, however his 20 question multiple choice tests which is the majority of your grade are impossible. I can study and understand the information perfectly but his questions are either worded weird so you don't know what they're asking or all of the answer options are correct. should be an easy A and I have a C
He doesnt explain the course in a teachable way and very hard to learn from. Might as well teach yourself for the weekly quizzes. Exams arent horrible but not easy when you arent able to learn in class.
The class mainly consists of quizzes & tests. If you listen to his lectures, use the cheat sheet he provides, and watch the lesson videos, you will easily do good. Regardless of my performance & ending grade, this was hands down my favorite class relating to my major. Professor Van Hoek knows what he is teaching & I would take him again if I could!
Dr. van Hoek is fantastic! He pursues his students success inside & outside of class. His passion for supply chain is obvious. This class is an opportunity to gain valuable and relevant insight into the workforce. Although his tests can be tricky, he provides tools for success. This class is worth taking for the knowledge you will leave with 10/10
Dr. Van Hoek is a great professor. He gives you real examples from the procurement world. If you don't understand something ask him, he would be happy to answer your questions. This is not an easy class. It is a little tricky. The best advice that I can give you is to take good notes from the videos and during the class, and ask questions.
If Remko offered more points in the course, I would feel more confident about this class. He only offers 200 points, so a little error goes a long way. Otherwise, I highly respect him as a professor as he clearly loves his profession and has a tremendous amount of experience in Supply Chain. I would take this class again.
This class is really interesting but be prepared to study hard for the test and pay attention to his emails. There are four tests and weekly quizzes that determine your grade but he gives really good summaries of the material that help you answer the questions. Overall I learned a lot in this class!
Overall, if you get behind in the class it makes it very difficult. But seems like he really does enjoy talking about the topics so it's not a boring class.
I took his online class and he is a good teacher. His class is a little tough because of such little points given. It consists of 4 tests, 10 quizzes and 1 writing assignment. It's not the easiest class but he is willing to help with whatever you need and is super nice.
Very knowledgeable about the material and makes an effort to see his student succeed.
Dr. van Hoek has been one of my favorite professors during my entire college experience. His class, sourcing and procurement, has changed the direction of my career. You will come out of his class with very tangible skills and knowledge needed to navigate a career in supply chain. Dr. van Hoek is engaging, funny, and wants to help you excel!
The class is pretty straight forward. I would recommend you consistently try to do well on the quizzes throughout the semester. For exams, they are only 20 questions, he gives you a cheat sheet that he lets you use. I had to study alot to prep for exams, anything that he goes over during lecture or in the reading, you might have on the exam.
Remko was a great teacher who cares about the course and the students. The tests are pulled right from the lectures and weekly videos, so overall they weren't too bad.
Professor Van Hoek is very experience and well versed in Procurement. He's great at taking real world examples to give students a better idea of the concepts he is discussing. Procurement is tough, but van Hoek is readily available with any questions you may have! Attendance is not required but you will be more successful on exams if you attend.
A great professor. He has had lots of career experience and shares his passion for supply chain! Would definitely take his class again!
Professor Van Hoek is a great professor. His industry experience is very insightful along with all the connections he has. He makes the class applicable to real life. Tests are not very hard as long as you watch the videos and he gives you chances to edit your papers and get extra credit.
He's willing to help at all times. Everything counts though. Quizzes are worth half a test grade, so make sure to do well on every assignment. Classes are interesting and he keeps you engaged.
good professor gives lots of information. Gives email updates every week about the class and tests
If you are looking for a professor that is knowledgeable and interested in an industry you came to the right place. Professor Van Hoek does a great job in truly making sure you understand the material and are able to apply it in the real world. 10/10 recommend taking him again! He cares about his students and will try his best to help you.
Professor Van Hoek has been my favorite teacher I have had as a supply chain student. He is very knowledgeable about procurement and it shows. You need to pay attention, take good notes, and have a good understanding of the material to do well in this class. He is very helpful if you have any questions. I would definitely take his class again.
Great guy! Easy to understand and has lots of industry background and knowledge! The class (quizzes, test, lecture) are difficult in the beginning but by the second test you get the hang of his teaching style and test/quiz questions.
You definitely have to work to be successful in this class, but he will do everything he can to help you be successful. As long as you keep up with the lessons and quizzes you should be fine.
The professor is very good, however the class is very difficult. I took this class online because of Covid-19, but may be why it was harder. Really understand the concepts because they build on top of each other. Furthermore, I would make sure you do well on your quizzes because there are no extra credit or replacement quiz grades. Great teacher
Dr. Remko Van Hoek is very passionate about supply chain. The class is quiz heavy so make sure to get as many points as possible on those. The tests are only 20 questions which are challenging but they arent too bad if you study.
The grading criteria is very clear from the beginning of the course! He wants his students to do well and so is easily available outside of class to answer any questions you have regarding the lessons. There is an opportunity for extra credit at the end of the semester to help your grade.
Remko is very understanding of Supply Chain and is very knowledgeable about what he is teaching.
Tests are very challenging but as long as you attend lectures and read the book you will be fine. Excellent professor with great real world experience. He really knows the Procurement industry well! Definitely makes you work for your A, but very possible if you're willing to put in the work. Great class!
Truly one of the best supply chain professors at the University of Arkansas. If you're taking SCMT 3613 aka Supply Chain Procurement, I 100% recommend Remko over any other professor. ESPECIALLY given the Covid climate of no in-person classes, He does a phenomenal job with posting videos that correlate with test assignments.
This class for remote learning has 4 test + a paper (50%), and 10 quizzes (50%) so the class is easy to handle. Class isn't mandatory but definitely helps out. Overall the class is very conceptual and you'll really need to see the big picture Remko is always shooting for. Also make sure you watch and take basic notes on all the videos!
I would recommend taking Professor Hoek for any supply chain class at the U of A. His class can be difficult as most of his questions are application based but if you put in the effort, it isn't too bad. There aren't many points available so every point counts!
The fact that he used to work in big firms and went back to teaching makes me value his class even more. His video lectures were full of detail that we would need for the tests and he had a lot of real world examples for us. I was introduced to new things I didn't know interested me.
Professor Remko Van Hoek is an overall great professor. The class is not easy and does require time and effort. I would recommend taking notes over the lecture and paying very close attention to the videos. If you do these things, you will be successful in the class.
I had heard some horror stories about this class, but it ended up being my favorite class I've taken this semester. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps to go to classes because he helps prepare you if you go to class. The class is test heavy, but between the videos, slides, and lectures you have everything you need to do well on the test.
I highly recommend Professor Van Hoek to anyone looking to go into the field of supply chain. His tests are difficult since they are application-based so paying attention to lectures and taking notes is a must. With that being said, he has an incredible knowledge of procurement and understands the best way to teach is to have everyone participate.
This class is not an easy A. Tests are 20 questions that consist of mostly challenging application-based questions. Tests and quizzes are worth 90% of the total points for the class, so there's not too much room for failure. Overall, Remko is a good instructor though.
This is a very challenging class that forces you to come to class and pay attention. Most of the grade is based on tests and weekly quizzes that are challenging so paying attention in class is a must. Dr. Van Hoek is clearly well educated on the subject and is very encouraging when it comes to in-class participation.
Professor Van Hoek is knowledgeable and has lots of career experience. The class is challenging, but if you attend class, pay attention to his lectures, and study hard for tests you will do well. Due to Covid-19, I took his class remotely and the course consists of 4 tests, 10 quizzes, and a case study, so every point counts in this course.
Remko is a great professor who really cares about his students. His class is one of the more beneficial classes that I have taken at the u of a. You do have to work for your grade and study for tests. Its not an easy course. But I also think its one of those 'you get what you put into it' type of things as well.
Overall, I enjoyed this class. It is important to attend the lectures because he covers lots of information that may not be addressed in the videos he posts. Professor Van Hoek is very excited about the material he is teaching and shows that during his lectures which makes it easier to stay engaged during class.
At the beginning of this class I was not impressed. I felt like everyone in the class was failing, struggling to understand what to do, and working way to hard for the reward. However toward the end Professor Remko pushed up to be more social and turn on our cameras and this is when we actually really started learning. He wants to see you succeed.
If you're looking at trying to do supply chain as a career, this is your man. The lectures are interesting but the videos you have to watch are where 90% of your notes will come from. He is a great man and extremely knowledgable but this is definitely not a blow off class and be prepared to work for your grade.
This course consists of 4 exams, quizzes at the end of each week leading up to exams, and one written assignment. You will need to do well on quizzes and written assignments to pass the course but overall it is a great course and you will learn a lot.
Remko inspired me to want to be great and develop an career to be proud of.
Remko is a great and knowledgeable professor that provides great insight with industry experience.
Such a nice professor, he really loves his job and puts so much effort into his work and actually cares about his students and that everyone understands the material.
He is a great professor with amazing work experience. He teaches with the aim to make the class beneficial and helpful towards our careers. The grading is tough, so you would have to keep alert from the start of the semester. He might not offer extra credit too. There is a textbook, but you don't need it, just focus on his videos.
He is a great professor who cares about what he teaches about. Has a lot of real-world experience which he brings into class. He is clear in what he teaches about and the class is set up well so that everything is pieced together nicely and effectively. Would recommend taking his class if given the opportunity.
Professor Van Hoek is passionate about developing and encouraging future generations of supply chain professionals. He connects course content with real-world experiences by personally interviewing industry leaders and inputs his own wealth of knowledge as well. Overall, this course isn't an easy A but is worth the time and effort.
Dr. Van Hoek is a great professor that truly cares about his students. I would highly recommend taking his course.
Dr. Van Hoek is a phenomenal professor that brings a great amount of real world experience to the class room. He interviews many leaders within the supply chain industry and gives many tips of his own for us to use in our future careers. We are allowed to use a handout given to us by Dr. Remko on every exam, which is super helpful.
Dr. Van Hoek is very professional but relatable. His video lectures are very informative and fun to watch. You can tell he really enjoys what he does! I would definitely recommend taking this course.
If you pay attention in class + put in the work this class is great! A lot of value comes from his real-world, industry experience which has a lot of lessons for a future Supply Chain professional.
Remko is truly passionate about teaching his students the future of supply chain and procurement. Even though he knows a lot about procurement, he will answer even the simplest of questions in a non-condescending way. He also created a handout that you can use on any exam, which you can get 3-4 out of 20 free answers off of per exam.
To be clear, this class contains a lot of relevant information and video interviews with major players in supply chain. The insights are probably the most valuable takeaway from this class. You can likely pass with little effort, but I would highly recommend digging in for best results. It's great material. For SCM, you won't regret it!
Great professor! Tests can be a little tricky, but he gives a lot of help in terms of test preparation. He uses a lot of real world examples in order to help students understand application in businesses.
Great prof highly recommend. Attendance isn't mandatory, but really helps for this course. Weekly quizzes except for weeks of exams.
Highly recommend taking this course! Remko van Hoek is an amazing professor with so much experience in this field. Although the grading margin seems hard, if you go to class, watch the videos, and take notes getting an A is not impossible. He gives many resources and is very committed to student success. You get what you put in.
The class isn't the easiest but a good grade is definitely attainable if you are attentive during lecture and watch the videos. Professor Hoek is very fair, passionate about procurement, and has some good lectures. Probably one of the most useful classes I've ever taken.
I loved taking his class. He is very passionate about supply chain and I thought the class was very fun. The exams are not too difficult as long as you study the short lecture videos he posts, and pay attention during class.
Professor Van Hoek was my favorite professor so far at The University of Arkansas. He cares a lot about his students and is extremely passionate about Procurement. If you have the opportunity to take his class, do it!
Dr. Remko is extremely knowledgeable about his focus of procurement and sourcing. If you look him up on Linkedin, it's clearly visible that he knows his stuff. As long as you pay attention and take notes over his additional lecture videos on Blackboard, this class is straight forward. Grading criteria is a little tough in room for error.
This class is going to be challenging if you are not willing to put in the work. Dr. van Hoek provides great lecture videos that apply to the exams/quizzes. He interacts with his students & keeps everyone engaged during lectures. He is a good professor that explains difficult concepts in an easier way. Definitely take him if you have the chance!!
Pretty good overall. 10 quizzes, 1 written assignment, 1 case study, and four exams with a cheat sheet. It would be difficult if people don't watch the videos. The questions are all made by the professor, but it would become easy if you watch the videos.
This class was pretty easy as long as you eat he'd the video lectures and took good notes.
Definitely need to pay attention in class and study for tests! You will do fine if you do this.
Overall this class was not bad. The lectures are content heavy but they are sometimes hard to follow. Not the worst class but definitely one that has required me to put a lot more into studying.
Great professor, likes to get everyone involved during lectures. Just be prepared and read the chapters before class.
Professor Van Hoek is a very understandable and caring teacher. Lectures are very easy to understand and translate well to his tests! Highly recommend taking this class for good knowledge on the world of procurement!
Great professor, would definitely take him again for more classes if I could. Really got me interested in the field of procurement
Pay attention and study the lecture videos and you'll be fine. Cool dude.
Great professor that has real industry experience. The class is a hybrid class, so you must watch videos outside of class and then they are explained in more depth in class. You have to work hard in this class, but he makes it enjoyable and really teaches you about Procurement. I would recommend taking Remko!
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Van Hoek has a lot of experience in Procurement and does a great job of connecting course content to real world cases. The setup of the course is very organized and as long as you keep up with the materials provided you can get a solid grade in the class. He is very helpful and appreciates participation in his class
Great teacher with clear grading. I did not get the book and would suggest to attend class. You should do good on the tests if you attend class and watch the videos online.
Professor Van Hoek is one of the top caliber professor's you will ever get in college. He has some of the best input on Procurement processes and you will definitely learn something. Be sure to take him, he does care about his students! I wish I had more time to participate in his course, but I had to balance my other courses a lot this semester.
Dr. Van Hoek is very knowledgeable about procurement. His class is not easy, but if you work for it, you can get the grade you want. The class is 4 exams, 10 quizzes, and 1 writing assignment. His overall goal is student success, but will not give it to you easily. I recommend taking Van Hoek if you want to be successful in the business world.
Dr. Van Hoek is very knowledgable about procurement and it is shown in his teaching. The class is not easy because there are very few points, but if you put in the work you can do well. He does want his students to succeed, but he will make you earn it. He has a lot of connections in the business world and provided us with many guest speakers.
Remko was an awesome professor. It is easy to tell that he has lots of experience in the world of procurement and is extremely qualified to be teaching the class. Very glad I ended up taking him. Class is only out of 200 points, but he did offer some extra credit.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had in all four of my years at the University of Arkansas. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT take Remko Van Hoek for any class. He does not care about his students and is the harshest grader I have ever seen. This guy is just flat out terrible.
This class and professor are amazing. The class overall is very informative and structured to provide the best learning for the students. Dr. Van Hoek cares about his students and wants them to learn from the lectures and lessons. 10/10 recommend Dr. Van Hoek for SCMT 3613.
Do not recommend his class. Very difficult. Subjective with his grading. He made the class way too hard for a 5-week summer course. The class is out of 200 points, so you can only miss 20 questions to make an A. Goodluck!
Very tough grader. Not an easy class at all. Be ready to work a lot if you want to make a good grade in his class, and be prepared for subjective grading.
Great professor, just wished subtitles were added in the interviews with foreign leaders as it was a bit hard to understand and answer questions related to the interviews.
Professor Van Hoek cares about his students and is always happy to help them. Tests are only 20 questions so it is important to read the textbook, watch lecture videos, and attend class in order to get all the information you need. Tests can be difficult but he does a good job at explaining the material.
Remko cares deeply about Procurement. This is evidenced by the sheer amount of resources and time he spends on lectures, handouts, and content. He wants to have you leave his class interested in the field he admires. His course is pretty difficult however (He wrote the text book lol). This is the course I learned the most so far in my time at UARK
Professor Van Hoek has been one of my favorite professors I have ever had since being at UARK. DO yourself a favor and go in person. He is inspiring when he lectures and all he wants is to connect with the future of procurement. A great guy to get to know.
Remko Van Hoek is a great teacher and cares deeply about his students success. The class is only out of 200 points so its important to do all your work and get as many points as possible. There are 4 test that are 20 points each so you need to make sure you study and understand the lecture videos. Great teacher, take him!
Remko is a very sound professor with an extremely high knowledge of the course load. He can be a tough grader but there is a lot to learn from the class. As long as you participate and study the class is set up for you to do well. Slack off however and it will be difficult to catch up. I think Remko is a very fair professor.
He is a very good professor and wants all of his students to do great things! One thing is that his class is only worth 200 points, so there is no room for forgetting assignments or missing a couple of points.
Remko is an amazing professor, and will coming that in the future. He's all about caring what his students are learning. The material that he teaches mixed with great interviews helps tremendously. Test can be tricky, but just do your assignments and you'll do great in his class.
Remko is awesome. One of those professors that has actual real and extremely valuable experience in what he is teaching. He's a procurement legend. He's very organized when it comes to keeping us informed on what is upcoming in the class and really helpful when you have any questions. He makes the class easy because he is a great teacher.
This professor presents a clear understanding of the classes topics. Your grade is based on majority of tests.
Professor Remko was very passionate about procurement which made the content exciting to learn about. Not many students showed up for class since there wasn't attendance but he did have examples and activities in class which made it easier to learn the content. The only things in the grade book are weekly quizzes, tests, and a case study.
Dr. Van Hoek is an amazing professor, knows exactly what he is talking about and cares for all of his students needs. The class does not have a lot of points available and is test heavy. The exams are tricky and sometimes too in depth. I studied hard for all the exams and still felt overwhelmed by a majority of the questions.
SCMT 3613 (Procurement) has tough content to master but a great teacher to learn it from. Professor Van Hook has fantastic supplemental video lectures and interviews with industry leaders to show why the content you learn will matter in the real world.
Professor Remko is a great teacher. He grades assignments pretty hard but gives you the opportunity to redo them for extra credit. The grade you get is pretty much determined by how much effort you put into the class. Professor Remko gives you all the tools you need to succeed but holds you accountable for deadlines.
Remko is an amazing professor with a LOT of industry knowledge. You need to study for the tests! His wording on the test can be confusing and tests are only 20 points, so it is easy to get a C on them. Study the Handout! He offered extra credit at the end of the year and is even letting us replace our lowest test score with highest, take him.
Great professor who shows great enthusiasm for teaching the future. He is very caring and resourceful. I would advise going to class, there are little nuggets of information that you get when you go to class.
Good professor. Tests are difficult if you do not put in a lot of work and are worth almost half of your grade. Dr. Van Hoek is a great lecturer however and thoroughly enjoyed attending class because of his lecturing style. He gives many examples of how his class is applicable.
Professor is very passionate and seems to really enjoy teaching. Class was once a week and attendance was not mandatory. You definitely need to watch videos and read the textbook, as the exams are not simply memorization. Overall he is very kind in my experience and the course is very organized.
Remko is an exceptional teacher. He's so inspirational and really cares about his students. He gave us extra credit and real tips for job interviews. Class is only 200 points. Grading was made up of weekly quizzes, 3 exams worth 20 points, and 1 paper. An A is possible, but you have to work hard. His class is worth it. You learn so much great info.
Exceptional instructor and passionate about what he does. Managed to make a boring subject somewhat interesting. May the source be with you!
Cares about his profession and has a good experience. But, I felt like we rarely had class between tests, we only had 1 class bc he canceled the other two, and had to teach ourselves the content. Tests are hard, and the only grade in the grade book. I would maybe take him again, but he wouldn't be my first pick.
He is an awesome professor and it is worth going to all of his lectures. Tests are 20 questions similar to the weekly quizzes. Only class one day a week. Some of these say to read the textbook but I would just skim the chapters the day before the exam and try to find a quizlet. Gives interview questions to ask, is a big fan of star wars/formula one
Remko is very informative and you will learn a lot in this class. However......The lack of points available outside of exams is very minuscule, so if you want an A you will have to work for it. Don't let that discourage you from taking him because you're basically guaranteed a B if you do the quizzes and don't fail exams. High exam replaces lowest.
Not a very good professor at all do not take him. He shows very little empathy for students. His lectures make 0 sense, it is almost like listenin to a robot. We rarely had lectures maybe once every two weeks you have to rely on textbook and videos to get you through the class. The exams are also nearly impossible. DO NOT TAKE HIM TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
He has so much experience and connections in the procurement field. Super intelligent guy who genuinely loves his job. The content is interesting but the exams are HARD. He is definitely the best professor for this course though. I wish he offered more assignments. Take him!
Totally loved Remko. He is incredibly respected and has industry experience no other professor has. Lecture every class, but they were incredibly valuable as I'm now considering a career in procurement. We followed a packet that summarized course topics and we were allowed to use it on the exams making it very hard not to do well on them. Take him!
Remko is a knowledgeable professor who makes a dry subject interesting. Exams are challenging, but manageable with regular attendance and utilizing resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook. Highly recommended for an engaging learning experience.
Remko is a very knowledgeable professor and has a lot of industry experience. However, he does not offer many other points outside of tests, and makes them extremely hard for no reason. I would recommend someone else.
Dr. Remko Van Hoek is one of the best professors I've had yet. His class is pretty difficult, especially the exams, but as a professor, he is so amazing at lecturing and he is someone who you want to have a connection with outside of class. His exams are hard, he's graded on few things, is a tough grader, but I would take his class again for sure.
Remko van Hoek is a very knowledgeable professor about Procurement. However he talks to the class as if we have been in procurement as long as he has. The way he explains the topic is way too complicated and could easily be taught “dumbed down” by another professor. The class is hard. he also wrote the textbook.
He is an awesome professor, but go to class and participate!!! Not many points in the gradebook, so the weekly quizzes are important and important to study for the exams. They are tough, but you can get an A if you work for it!
great professor and very knowledgeable in procurement. He does expect us to know a lot often can be slightly defensive if we don't know the answer to something although he wrote the textbook it's not necessary to pass the tests/class. 200 points in the class, it's very easy to get the 140 points to pass the class. Show up and you will be fine.
Remko is a great professor who gives real life examples and is engaging in class. Tests are not difficult if you go to class and watch lecture videos. Its almost impossible to not pass this class if you do the homework and quizzes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Dr. Remko Van Hoek is truly one of the best professors I've had at UARK. His lectures are engaging and informative. You can tell that he cares about his students and what he's teaching. If you come to class and participate in discussions you will do well in his class.
Dr. Van Hoek was a great professor and I enjoyed taking his class this year. He was probably the most qualified professor I've had up to this point at the U of A. He is very knowledgeable in every field of the class. He is also very helpful and willing to work with you on mostly everything.
Dr. Remko is an AMAZING professor! Although the coursework is rigorous, he wants his students to succeed and he is always looking to help. His tests are easy if you study and use the materials he provides you. He also offers extra credit. There are not enough great things I can say about him, I would recommend this class over and over again.
Professor Van Hoek was a massively marvelous teacher. I learned so much about his class and that there's heavily more to business than just buying and selling stuff. Despite feeling lost at times, I know I can always solve that problem by seeking help from him.
Great professor just the course does not have a ton of points so make sure you take advantage of all of the points!!! Study for the test because those points are really important.
Dr. Van Hoek teaches in ways that you will learn the material long-term. Class engagement allows you to fully retain the information instead of memorizing answers for tests.
Take this class will help prepare you for internships greatly.
Dr. Van Hoek is an amazing professor on the matter of procurement. His industry experience and connections are unmatched and provide an incredible learning experience. I highly recommend taking him for procurement if you truly want to learn and retain the material.
Professor Remko provided a great learning experience in class. I especially appreciated the interactive discussions and case studies that enhanced my understanding of procurement strategies. This class has significantly enriched my knowledge and inspired me to explore more in this field. Thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm in teaching!
As long as you show up and participate in class you will end with a good grade. Professor Remko is very knowledgeable on this topic and and you can learn a lot from him.
Professor Remko ensures students have every resource they need to succeed. He posts lecture videos and slides that are incredibly helpful for reviewing material.
good professor, but this class is test heavy but quizzes help.
You can tell Remko's had passion with his teaching and tries to inspire people to learn every class. Very professional and well-spoken teacher who does a good job of not lecturing all class off of slides. You can learn a lot from his classes, but you need to engage in the class in order to do so. Overall, very great teacher.
Professor Remko Van Hoek is a great educator who ensures students succeed. His lectures are well organized and he posts slides and lecture videos on Blackboard. I recommend his class to anyone looking for a great learning experience.
Great professor, lots of learning involved.
This course was by far one of the easiest classes I have taken, Remko did an amazing job of simplifying every subject into short entertaining videos. While there was a lot of study material like the book, videos, and real-world case videos, they did come in handy for exams. I highly recommend this class.
I truly enjoyed Professor Van Hoek's class. He is honestly so knowledgeable about the subject and makes his lectures very entertaining and interactive. He is very well respected in the industry and has so much to share. I am hoping to go into procurement because of this class.
Professor Remko is arguably the best professor I have ever had. He teaches you everything you'd ever want to know about Procurement. More importantly though he will teach you how to conduct yourself in high level business scenarios. He was a Disney executive with a wealth of knowledge delivered by a truly humble man. Would take again!!!
Dr.Van Hoek was overall a great teacher. Even though he posts the lectures online going to class does help with comprehension of the topics, but I only went once a week at most. Tests are easy if you watch the videos. He will tell you to but his book and read it to prepare for class but you do not need it, I never opened mine
This guy is great. Good lectures and definitely knows his stuff. He is very willing to help.
Dr. van Hoek is a great professor that is very well respected in his field. The lecture videos and interviews with executives from large, global companies were enjoyable to watch and informative. The quizzes were based off of the videos and interviews, but the exams were more focused on actually learning the concepts and being able to apply them.
personality of a middle school teacher. you could do great on an assignment but if he doesn't like you he'll grade harshly.
Remko is a great teacher. He is one of the most intelligent professors and very well versed in the procurement world. He wrote the textbook that he uses for classes, and he also makes the course content, so he knows it very well. The class is out of 200 points, but he does allow opportunities to get a good grade, and he cares about his students.
He can be a bit wordy, but overall, a great teacher. He provides plenty of resources via videos with people from the field. He provides lecture videos that are short and easy to understand.
This class was amazing. I wasn't sure how a lecture heavy class was going to be for me, but I ended up loving it. Remko is brilliant and one of my favorite professors I've ever had the opportunity to take. Tests and quizzes aren't too bad as long as you engage in class or watch his review videos. I highly suggest taking this class.
this professor gave everyone a fair chance to succeed if you do all your work
Dr. Van Hoek is a great professor. Sometimes the lectures can get repetitive however, it makes the content easy to comprehend. It is important to complete all of the assignments on time because there is no extra credit and no makeups. You are graded on very few assignments so don't forget to submit like I did and you should get an A.
Great lectures and very experienced. Enjoyed the course
Van Hoek is intelligent, but this can lead to a gap with students. I found issues with some parts of his course, but it is relatively straightforward - consisting of 10 quizzes for 10 points each, 4 tests for 20 points each, and a paper for 20 points. He used AI to grade the paper, but then allowed students to resubmit it for a new grade.
I really enjoyed this class, it was very challenging, however, Dr. Hoek was very approachable and even helped me through the interview process for internship that I landed later on in the semester. You definitely have to make sure you understand each piece as they all flow together.
Professor Remko is an excellent teacher, and his knowledge of Supply Chain and Procurement is unmatched. What I learned in his class will definitely be useful in whatever career I choose in the future. All you need to do to succeed is show up, pay attention, and interact in class. The homework is not difficult, you just have to do it.
He is a very smart and dedicated professor. Attendance isn't graded, but you will learn valuable lessons about procurement if you attend.
Professor Remko Van Hoek was incredible this last semester. He truly is among the elite when it comes to professors within the Walton College of Business. He is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, he promotes curiosity, and he prioritizes the student's future. Arkansas is blessed to have someone who is as respected and successful as Remko is.
Be prepared to read and watch videos before class for discussions. He is very insightful and knows his stuff. The class is not the easiest, but if you study hard, you can succeed.
Professor Remko is incredibly wise and truly knows what he's talking about. You can tell he has real experience, and he brings that into every lecture. The class isn't the easiest, but it pushes you to think deeper and apply concepts to real-world situations. If you're willing to put in the effort, you'll do great.
I loved this class overall but it was not easy. I did not know alot about supply chain going in but I feel like I know so much more now. A few things I would say is the class is out of 200 points total, so make sure you show up to class and study. He is not easy but he wants us to do well and really does care for his students.
Remko was a good teacher who was very helpful for the students that sought him for help. Participation helps a lot for the tests and make sure to really study for them because they are not worth many points. And do not miss a quiz, it hurts. Just stay on top of it and you will be good.
Hakes this class more difficult than it should be. The whole class is 200 points making it very hard to get an A, he does not give any bonus, and does not adjust your grade at all. Class is not mandatory. I have a hard time following along in class. He is very knowledgeable in the subject, but I would not take his class again if I didn't have to.
He is a very entertaining and HIGHLY knowledgeable professor. He loves engaging with the class and you can see how much he loves his job. Awesome professor. The grading system is not super forgiving, but sometimes you just get a B. I would recommend him, especially if you are interested in supply chain. He will set you up well.
He is extremely professional and knowledgeable (has experience at disney and many other huge companies and is in the SC hall of fame), as well as passionate. It is very important to go to class to understand what is going on in class. Many of the test questions are about what is discussed in class. WATCH THE VIDEOS. Hard class but beneficial!
Weekly quizzes due on Friday at 5 pm and 4 tests. Very knowledgeable in his field and explains the curriculum well. No group projects and quizzes make up most of your grade. I would take another class with him.
Great professor! Super knowledgeable and intentional with how he structures the class. He explains things clearly, is always willing to help, and genuinely wants students to succeed. The course can be challenging at times, but it's very manageable if you keep up with the material. I'd definitely take another class with him.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this class and the way Professor Remko cares for us as students. Professor Remko has not only increased my knowledge of supply chain, but he also empowered me with pivotal industry skills/toolsets needed to make a impact. He is a very inspiring and passionate Professor, any student would be lucky to have had this class!
As someone who works very hard to get good grades, he really made me work for it. Must take notes in class because the slides won't help you at all. Post videos to help, but it will cover 60% of the exams. Other than that, he doesn't provide a lot of study material. He is very knowledgeable in his field, but when I asked for help, I didn't get any.
Great Professor, just have to put in the time to study. If you work hard you can definitely get an A, but you will have to work for it. Only graded by quizzes and 4 Tests.
Professor Remko cares deeply about his students.
Learned so much from him. Many skip class because no attendance mandatory but is worth going. Has some fun in class exercises. Clear grading criteria lets you replace a test with your best so easy to get an A. He is so awesome and loves what he does.
Dr. Van Hoek's Source class was one of my favorite at UARK. He's a former Disney executive and talks about his experience there as Chief Procurement Officer, which is very interesting. Graded by 200 overall points which makes A's tricky, but B's aren't hard. Stay on top of quizzes. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will learn a lot if you go.
He was great but sometimes hard to listen to, can get boring.
Good professor. Quizzes and tests are your grade. If you do poorly on some you might not be able to recover an A.
Good professor, tests are pretty tough. He cares about his students and does a good job connecting with them
He was a good professor that really is passionate about procurement! You're graded by only a few things but he posts his lectures before class so you can skip if you need to! You will be good on the exams as long as you watch his lecture videos.
Van Hoek is incredibly smart and good at adapting to his students' needs. There is not a lot of stuff to be graded on, but he adapts to what the students need. A good example is the paper - several students were dissatisfied with their grades, so he gave the opportunity to alter and achieve a better grade. This transparency makes him worth taking.
Overall a solid professor. You will learn a lot. Attendance not mandatory but the lectures are directly correlated to test material.
He is a good professor, with easy assignments, and very knowledgeable about procurement. I enjoyed the class overall and would take it again.
Great teacher for the supply chain department. He is very well knowledged in all of supply chain but procurement is where he's most versed in. Lecture heavy and test heavy, but they are easy if you watch lecture videos or go to class. I would highly recommend taking if you want to learn something to use in the real world.
Remko is very passionate about his field and it shows if you go to class and his lectures, but he grades solely through quizzes, exams, and a single case study. I don't recommend if you're a bad test taker.
Wants his students to succeed inside and outside the classroom. As long as you show up and pay attention the class will go smoothly. Sometimes he will call people out for not paying attention in class. There are not a lot of points in the class, most of it is based on quizzes and exams.
He is a good professor with extensive supply chain knowledge. However, the class is test heavy and only graded on a few things. Attendance is not mandatory but you will learn a lot and how to apply the concepts to real world scenarios.
I would definitely recommend this class with Dr. Van Hoek. He gives lots of opportunities to learn and grow in the Source/Procurement field. You will get to hear different perspectives from guest lectures and have videos to look back on if you need clarity on a concept.
Remko has a ton of experience in the field and was very passionate about the material. He truly wanted his students to get the most out of the material he presented. The class was certainly quiz/exam heavy, so if you're not a good test taker, beware, but if you go to class and watch his videos posted online, you should be just fine. I recommend.
Remko is amazing and probably the best procurement professor at the university you will learn so much and he does a great job at keeping the lectures interesting. Understand how many points the course is worth and show up to class and you will be fine.
Very dedicated to his work.
If you are a good test taker, take him; if you aren't, don't. Tests are worth so much, and quizzes are worth more than you think. Tests are also extremely hard. One of a kind professor and a great resource, may the source be with you...
Remko Van Hoek is a great instructor. He has great in class discussions, cares about the subject, and post very useful videos for the course. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Dr. Van Hoek was great professor. He is very knowledgeable and his class makes you understand the details of supply chain.
Great professor really cares about his class and gives amazing lectures that relate to the real world. However, his tests are extremely difficult and there aren't many points in the class. Also, I asked him to round my grade as I had missed the cut off for an A by 1 point, and he would ignore my emails and not answer me.
Professor Van Hoek's class is very straight forward. There is little room for error if you want to get an A but it's not too challenging. The information for all of the quizzes are in his videos he posts so you don't really have to go to class that often. The tests can be harder because its kind of unpredictable but his videos are helpful.
