he's so boring, you'll hear the same thing over and over again. He also thinks that everything he say is funny. If you have a choice, don't take this class.
Oh man, this guy has a Ph.D? Well he certainly doesn't show it when he thinks he knows what he's talking about. Very easy to fall asleep in this class. He kind of laughs like Eddie Murphy in the Nutty Professor.

This is the worst prof Ive had since Kindergarten. If you want to learn, dont take him cuz he drains your energy and takes more than he gives
Ridiculous class. No control over students, no concept of classroom. Intelligent man, awkward professor.
Poor organization in the class. Gave us no study guides or helpful review for tests. Lectures were direct from the book, not very good or helpful. If you are concerned about your GPA don't take this class, you never know what his test questions will be on.

Dr. Drew just started teaching again after years break, I think he did a good job! Yes, some lectures were a little confusing, but as long as you read and ask questions, it's not that bad. By the way he was very nice to me, and I'm a girl!
Please do not take this class. He is a terrible teacher and knows NOTHING about history. He has to refer to his notes to answer a basic question from a student. He doesn't write his own tests, so therefore his lectures are pointless, so just make sure you read the text well. Worst teacher ever!!!!!!
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE HIS CLASS. I FEEL LIKE I COULD TEACH THE CLASS BETTER THAN HIM. I JUST PLUG IN MY iPOD EACH CLASS AND READ THE BOOK. SUCKS IF YOUR NOT IN FORUM WITH HIM. DONT DO IT TO YOURSELF.
Obviously the students who rate him bad lack study skills. This guy is the best professor Ive had. I learned so much! His views are almost first hand. I have to admit the test are a bit tricky but the personal information gained is so valueable!! It changed my life. Thank you Dr, Drew!
Boring class you pass the class if u study hard but you wont learn any thing .Tests are very hard and u can find 2 right answer in tests which make studes comfuse .

I really enjoyed Dr. Drew. He lectures straight from the book. Don't try to take notes, just highlight or underline straight in the book. For tests, re-read notes and do the study guide and you will be fine. Also give extra credit opportunities for easy extra points.
Huge extremist christian and a bigot. If you value tolerance, spare yourself the aggravation. This is coming from an A student.
not organized; Not covering all important subjects; giving students too many chances to take a late quis or exam, which is the same as the original exam and it is obviose that they are cheating, knowing the answers. It is just not fair to the students who were there on time. And actuallt studied..

He is a very nice teacher in all aspects.
HE IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS. He is really nice and funny and very easy if you just attend the class you'll get a good grade - - I totally recomend him. 100%
nice guy, but very unorganized in his teaching. i didnt get very much out of the class. his test are never consistant, so you dont know what to study for.
so i had to retake history 175 because of mason. this teach made everything so much better, clear and even much more fun! he always gets derailed but into either something funny or interesting. its just that someone has to bring coffe for him just incase he forgets! trust me he needs it! he's pretty cool. i took winter intersession! he was awasome!

very cool and interesting teacher; tests are easy if you study; very easy grading on group projects and current event essays
Dr. Drew is a great teacher. He is a little unorganized but whos not. His test were very easy if you studied, his final was very hard. He is fair when comes to grading. Overall I give him a great rating.
easy class dont even have to pay attention to get a good grade just go home and read key words out of book very interesting when you pay attention
Overall this class was laid back.. He covers material needed and gives a study guide for tests and quizzes .. wasent difficult pretty much made it possible to do work to count towards grade it was 3 tests n 2 quizzes overall pretty chill class
i APPRECIATED THAT DR. DREW SEPARATED HIS OPINION FROM THE SUBJECT MATTER SO THAT IT WAS NOT CLOUDED.
For those of you who took the SUMMER 05 Poly sci class... "Rawley" and "Kathern" have their morning debate every 30 seconds constantly disrupting the class with information no one cares about. But Dr. Drew encourages us to participate but no one does because they keep interrupting. Hes a great teacher though. Its the students who "Suck" lol
Tests are easy
Gives a lot of extra credit.Very easy class.Spends almost half of the class time in "debates"

Great person and very interesting!
teacher is very easy
Dr.Drew is a very hilarious and easy prof. He tries to make jokes here and there while teaching. The most importance thing is that his tests and exams are easy as long as u pay attention in class and do the students' guide book.
Good teacher, keeps you awake if you have a morning class, just make sure you do ALL the reading and be very thorough. Tests can be hard if you don't do all the reading, and do the oral report. It helps your grade A LOT.

I loved his class until the very end. I worked hard, participated in discussions, completed all of my assignments, did well on the tests and had perfect attendance. I wound up getting a high 'C' on the final and he gave me that for my overall grade. Thanks, Dr. Drew. Great for my transcripts.
He is a great instructor, makes it interesting and lot of laughs too.
his tests are some of the hardest tests I have ever taken. He tries to trick you. If you take him, not only should you read the chapters COMPLETELY, you must also note everything he says in class...and that may not even be enough. He also constantly makes racial and religious comments and 50% of the time you want to fall asleep during lecture
I expected some sort of teaching when entering into this class but instead all I got was essentially the cliff note version of the text. That to me is unacceptable. The tests were all taken directly from the study guides with no creative additions at all. Big UNsmiley face for Dr. Drew...
Easy class, but ignorant teacher. Torture to sit through.
I really was eager to learn about history in this class, but I find the only way to learn is to read my book during his lectures. Should not be teaching. He summarizes the book, that's it. Every other word in his lecture is "Um, Um, Um", or "Once again...". It drives me nuts! He plays favorites in class with certain students. Do not take his class.
Completely right-wing rhetoric masquerading as history lesson. Pompous and arrogant and shuns students who are liberal minded. One girl got up on finals day and literally sang "The Star Spangled Banner" because she thought that's what Drew wanted to hear - thought it would insure her grade. I AM NOT kidding. Ridiculous.
I guess their are some Dr.Drew haters out there. If you dont do well in class it's your own fault not the teachers. Dr. Drew does make religous references and he may be right-winged. I am very liberal not super religous and I got an A in his class. If you really want a teacher who cares for his students and will go the extra mile choose Dr. Drew.
He is an outstanding teacher. Always willing to go the extra mile to work with a student that is actually trying themselves. Patiently he listens to all sides of a discussion. Great classes!
Disregard these people who claim he's a great teacher ("extra mile", hah!). Drew is the most ignorant teacher I've ever had in my college years. In a class that is essentially supposed to cover the 20th century, I learned NOTHING about WWII! Skipped over it because he so badly mismanages time. I feel I wasted $78 on this class, not to mention time!
Dr. Drew is a decent teacher, but he's not a very good one. He grades on a biased scale based on "participation" in class. I did well on his tests and got great scores on the assignments he gave us, yet I ended up with a B instead of an A since I wasn't "outspoken" (or involved, depending on how you view it) enough in the class discussions. :-/
Horrible teacher. He just reads (literally) straight from the book. He discourages independant thought and he completely shuts you down if you voice an opinion contrary to his. He cuts students off all the time And worst of all, he refuses to give a study guide for his tests. Avoid this teacher at ALL COSTS! (Unless you actually like George Bush)
He is a nice guy but he is unorganized. His lectures are directly from the book. His test and quizes are hard. For the final just study the study guide. His class is only based on 100 points.
a pleasant and cheerful fellow, but not the greatest of teachers. he is disorganized and unclear. he does not go over what will be on the tests, which are hard. his lectures are painfully boring and literally read straight from the book. what i DID like about him was that he maintained an objective attitude in respect to political orientation.
This class is a study of ethnic contributions, not history. Entirely based on what he feels blacks did for society as opposed to say other groups, particularly whites. Too much like a middle school class. I honestly liked going to his class because i knew that i was not missing out when i didnt pay attention.
VERY disorganized! Lectures are all over the place. Dr. Drew can be amusing but his class is not fun.
Very easy class to get an A in. Dr. Drew is very upbeat, but his instruction techniques are very disorganized, he falls behind his syllabus almost right away and rushes through the material the rest of the semester. If you just do your reading this class is an easy A, and he gives lots of extra credit oppurtunites, also no homework.
disorganized. tries his best to be organized, but isn't. the lecture is ALL on the projector, reading from his Microsoft WORD (not powerpoint) documents, which are just exerts for the book. nice guy, but really hard to learn from. no HW, tests are tolerable multiple choice, with the ?'s taken right from the study guide (comes with the book).
Im in the fri class and notes are off the book. I sorta enjoy his class. Dop the extra credit and you will be fine. And just study. Kinda disorganized but he loves the subject so it helps.
i had him on a friday morning at 8 am... he kept this class fun and the tests were easy, as long as you copy the notes. this class wasn't that hard.
Good attitude/energy in class, but seriously, if he wasn't able to lecture about racism he would have nothing to discuss. Notes are also very hard to follow, tests are badly worded and full of grammatical errors.
This guy is the most um um um um......Um.um.um.um......That's all I've learned....I'm a straight A student but you know what this guy has a weird grading scale.......All I know is that if you follow his grading scale I got B's on all my test and guess what grade I ended up getting.......I got a D.......I don't get it....Cool guy accept very disorga
easy grading scale. need a 50% to pass with a C. lots of boring lectures and take any extra credit offer. they'll help a lot
nice guy, but only talks about racisism and black history. if it were a black history class it would be kool, not for history 175. i got a C in his class and actually tried hard.
Totally awesome and entertaining too. Great class and he is fun.
well he seems like a nice teacher except for the fact that its almost impossible to get an A in his class. out of his whole class me and one other person got an A (by two points) and thats because i worked my butt off! a lot of reading and tricky questions. but nice guy. if you want an easy A dont take him.
It was a good class, he is very interesting and likes to create discussion.
Dr. Drew is completely enthusiastic which makes the class somewhat interesting. Pretty easy to get an A (if you dont want to read book, just take good notes), plenty of extra credit ops., i really didnt get his grading scale.. but it works to students' advantage, so im not complaining.
He is a very easy teacher! I never read the book and still got an A in his class! All u need to do is study the study guide he takes the exact same questions and puts them on the test. Plenty of extra credit opportunities!
Cool guy, his lecture is always meant to cheer you up, funny at some point. The problem is that you to READ ALOT! Because his test is tricky. Study Guide will only help you 50% of the test, the rests are depend on how well u read, study, and the most important of all, luck.
this guy was a great teacher. i took him a few semesters ago, at 8 in the freakin morning and i actually WANTED to be there. i think i missed maybe 2 classes the whole semester. he's hilarious and makes class fun
Dr Drew is awesome!Class is entertaining&fun.Midterm, Final, &3 quizzes.Easy to get ExC.Loves controversial topics, but is fair and not there to change yr pol.views.Definitely use the study guide to your advantage- keep it with you when he lectures, most of the nts are from the study guide. Shows some videos, and nts are off Word. Book not mandatory
good man good man. Take him if you want a good grade.
This guy rocks!!!!!!! hes a super smart, and easy person to get along with. he talks about things that actally are interesting unlike other teachers. he brings up points that make you wanna listen. lectures are a little long, but still i highly reccomend this guy, hes an awsome human!
He's a really nice guy and gives out a TON of extra credit, so you have no excuse to really get a bad grade in the class. There was a pot luck during our final which was lots of fun. His tests are a bit hard, but if you read the textbook and study you'll get an A for sure. He's quite funny and energetic as well, considering how early the class was.
This class was a joke. I feel as though I wasted 16 weeks of my life. Be careful of grading scale as i had a perfect score going into the final, yet needed to get a high b to keep an A in the class. Extra credit pretty much ends up being neccessary to ensure grades. tests are easy, but final is ridiculous. FIND ANOTHER TEACHER!
Found him to be a really good guy and teacher, but not the most efficient. A bit disorganized, but kept class relevant and interesting. Be warned of what bugged me: he DOES integrate a lot of very right wing Christian things into his teaching, as history. However, he dislikes Bush, and strives to present objective politics. Religion, however....
He is a good teacher, but disorganized. He does his lecture directly from the book. If you do extra credits, it's easy to get an A in this class even though you don't do well on exams. Exams are not so easy.
If you want to take political science or american studies. dr.drew is the teacher that you should take. he is a very out going guy. willing to help you as long as you let him know you need help. he doesnt allow make up test unless you tell him the day before and let him know that you are going to be gone. he is a fun teacher.
I'm getting an A in his class and you should too if you are a college-level student (not hard). He is disorganized and goes off topic to students' questions if he doesn't know the answer. My opinion is whatever but he always responds to questions or comments in a very defensive way.He doesn't tell you directions but expects you to know them.Crazy
Unorthodox is his signature. I was offended when he took a picture of a black, masculine, lesbian woman and walked around the classroom showing it to students one by one making fun and laughing. Too bad for me that I am dark skinned and a lesbian myself. I expressed my embarrassment and anger to him and he advised me to "GET THICKER SKIN" end quote
It's an easy A - but he is extremely EXTREMELY disorganized. Never sticks to his outline, and we probably had 1 lecture all year. He sort of expects you to know what he wants you to do with assignments. He is a very biased teacher and can be REALLY harsh if you express an opinion he doesn't agree with. I did not learn anything the entire semester.
he says classes are mandatory but is soo lenient to those who do not attend class for long periods of time and come back for the last couple weeks and gives them a's. i am not one of those slackers that is why i am complaining. unfair.
Maybe he should actually spend some time abroad before making biased judgements that AREN'T even relevant or true! He seems nice but is misguided in his views. I'm no left-liberal but after the first class I feel offended by some of the statements he makes about the middle east; especially after living there for some time. Challenge his views!!
Rediculous grading scale for the whole term. Had an 'A' before the final. After final (40% of your grade), I got a 'C' in the class with no postings of what I received on the final. Extremely flaky with email but chooses not to respond (I've sat with him while he checks email). We were told that the other 180 class had no A's on the final.
don't take him. worst professor ever. He said he was never called boring in his life but during his lecture half the people are falling asleep and another half is texting, or listening to mp3. I was watching a movie on my laptop during the lecture and is still have an A in the class.
Most of the class is comprised of lecture but he is really good with giving out extra credits, so it's essentially an easy A class! Dr. Drew is entertaining too plus he's a libertarian!! Haha, overall he's a nice guy and the tests are easy!
I can't believe I stuck with this guy the whole semester. I should've dropped him and his class. It was a complete waste of time, energy, and money to attend. He's disorganized, shows favortism, and didn't go through with his promises on extra credit. He doesn't fully go through the material since he likes to talk so much about irrelevant things.

He is a very interesting teacher. all he does is copy the exact wording from the book and lectures on the MS word. He teaches SOOO fast and you wont learn anything. very unorgarnize. I think he is the easier Poli Sci teacher at OCC. I didnt enjoy his class. I hated his pace.Look for other teachers 1st. He does not know much about Poli Sci.
1.) EASY A!!! Really easy, as long as english isnt your 2nd language and you read stuff. Some students are just dumb and its hard for them. 2.) How can you rate him low in helpfulness? Ive never heard him say "no" yet, hes a push over and gives you w/e u ask for. If you want an ez class, TAKE THIS ONE! if ur all about learning got read ur text
He is so very clear and his tests are very easy because of how straight forward it is. He gives a TON of extra credit (in case you're stupid). I'll admit, despite how cool he is, his lectures can be drawn out and boring possibly attributed to the subject matter.
Rendell Drew is very passionate about his teaching and how we the people must be involved and use the rights that have been given to us as americans. You will learn a lot from this class, he requires participation from the students, this helps in the learning process. I loved his class and recommend him to everyone. He gives lots of extra credit.
Great!loved him, hes funny and a great teacher learned alot in his class about the material but also my own rights and things.I only wish i could have had in a smaller class it was in lecture hall, but i still enjoyed it.Great teacher dont take anyone else for political science, i switched to him and im so glad i did!! Great teacher and nice guy
Short and Simple: Great person, tons of extra credit (summer at least), but you have to read some (or more), lectures are straight from the text, and is SUPER funny! Take him for summer
The tests are pretty straightforeward just read the text. If you like to debate political issues this is the class for you, it is pretty boring if you dont. He gives alot of extra credit opportunities!
hes a good teacher, test are copied from the lectures. he gets off topic a lot and does favor African american stdents, if he has to say he doesnt favor them means it has come up before. read the text and take notes and you'll pass with flying colors
One of the best teachers I've had, no doubt. He really cares about the students and is passionate about teaching. He's a funny guy and is good at sparking heated debates within the class, so class time goes by pretty fast. He offers A LOT of extra credit, so if you're willing to put in the work for an A, you'll get it. Would definitely recommend.
Exams are relatively easy. But he offers A TON of extra credit. Grades are based off of two quizzes, Midterm, final and a paper. Easy class over all. The only bad thing is he tends to lecture a little fast and get off topic easily. Read the book and you should do well in his class.
His class is an EASY EASY A...i failed my last psci 180 class, i hate PCI! but however i am managing to get an A. Do all the extra credit...he offers so much that if you do all of it, its about 15-20% of your grade (xtra credit bumps you up 2 letter grades) However his class can be boring!
he likes what he does, goal is to get you interested. He tends to explain what he is about to do, then explains it again. Then he gets sidetracked talking about something else, then he explains it again, and THEN gets started, then he has to move quickly to make up for lost time that he wasted. Lots of xtra credit. The pos outweighs the neg.
Dr. Drew is a great teacher who wants his students to succeed. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. He is my favorite teacher that I've had at Orange Coast.
I got an A in this class mainly because of all the extra credit that was offered. He goes too fast in his lectures and you can't take notes fast enough but if you use the on-line study guides from the book you'll be fine. He does tend to get too side tracked at times during lectures but over all he's pretty good. Do the extra credit people.
He is the best
Somewhat nice and funny, belittles some. Does not understand the point of Powerpoint b/c each slide had too much info, paragraphs worth, and does not give you a second to copy down anything. Goes off topic too much and what he does teach, you already know. Reason why I dropped this class. Better off with another teacher.
I have no idea why everyone tries to get into this class. He is unclear, skips around during lectures and does not prepare you for the tests. I had perfect attendance, studied the online notes and practice tests and every time I got the test wondered where he pulled the questions from. As others say- do the EC and it will save your grade.
Ive never been a fan of government but Dr.Drew really gets you interested in whats going on today. His tests are kinda hard if you arent willing to read and study for the tests.other than that, there isnt homework and if you do all the extra credit that can bring your grade up about 20% up! take him, you wont regret it
LOVED THIS CLASS!!!! He is a great professor i look forward to taking another calss by him. Test are kinda hard but if you read the book and do the online text you will do fine. tons of extra credit, which can bring up your grade two letters. Had a lot of fun and learned alot.. actualyl interested in poli sci after this class
Hated this class. His lectures are useless and he jumps around everywhere, you're better off just reading the book. He spends every class lecturing about how he's not trying to push political views on the class and then talks crap on the Obama administration all day and how we're going to become a socialist country. He's a big fan of Fox News.
Funny guy with lots of jokes, easy class. Try to earn as many Ex credits as you can to secure your grade first and he gives them out a lot. only 2 quizzes and 2 tests so EX credits are important. Also, he encourages you to say your words on political issues. This activity is funny as hell. so I definitely recommend this professor.
Easy class to get an A in. Midterm and final are huge chunks of your grade. Do the required reading and you will do fine. HE HAS ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT. Take advantage of it! Great class if you like to argue politics. Lectures can be boring at 6-9pm and he can skip around a bit but everything is right out of the book! Suggest to anyone.
I was not looking forward to taking this class, not interested in ploitics, worried that it was going to be a struggle. NOT THE TRUTH. I found it interesting Dr. Drew is amazing. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. there is no HW, midterm and final, and quizzes are your grades, WANT AN A- DO THE ONLINE STUDY GUIDES FROM THE BOOK.
I did not want to take this class, I as not interested in politics, and I have always found it confusing to follow. I was actually worried how I would get through it. Not in Dr. Drews class he is amazing. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. grade is based on final, midterm, and 2 quizzes. hint: WANT AN A DO THE ONLINE STUDY GUIDE FROM THE BOOK
Dr. Drew is great! Very helpful and very nice. Be respectful of him and he will do the same for you. Sit up front and be involved in the class, every professor likes that. He's hilarious, keeps the class entertained, and gives you what you need to know to get a good grade. READ THE BOOK AND BRING IT TO CLASS. Highlight as he lectures, it helps :)
THIS PROF. IS GREAT HE KEEPS YOU ATTENTIVE IN HIS CLASS AND ITS POLITICAL SCIENCE! VERY DIFFICULT TO DO :) I WAS WORRIED ID FAIL THIS CLASS BUT I KNOW I WON'T I LIKE IT TOO MUCH =)
Dr Drew is an amazing professor. He keeps you interested the whole 3 hours and he is hilarious! I was never bored in his class once! i HIGHLY recommend him!
Super easy class. All u have to do is show up and pay attention- maybe use the online notes a bit. With that said he is a horrible teacher. Class felt like a 3hr Fox News report. Constantly offering misinformation and his opinion as truth. If u get easily annoyed by stupidity- don't take this class!!
Eh. Read the chapters, take the quizzes & read the study guides available from the text's resources, and show up so you don't get dropped and get attendance points. Class time is for discussion & debate, not so much lecture or review. Don't bring laptop, he HATES them. Funny guy at times, and DO the extra credit!! + pts if you're an army veteran.
He is an amazing professor, I really enjoyed taking his class. By far the best political science professor at OCC. Teaches the material in an objective/clear manner..he doesnt use the class to let us know about his personal opinions. Really funny and sassy. LOVEE DR. DREWW!
Easy! try to do as much extra credit to secure you grade in the class. He's really funny I enjoy taking his class
He's an amazing professor. Do extra credit things including oral presentations and XCO things, otherwise you can't get A easily because midterm and final are extreamly hard His class is entertaining but the material is hard. As an international student, I did an oral presentation because Dr Drew encouraged me to do that and I got final A :)
His class is not that hard. The only thing you need to do in class is just highlighting your textbook. If you wanna get A, just read the textbook at home. That's it.
Great Professor. Very funny, read the text book and you'll be fine
He doesn't really teach, he just speeds through a review of the chapter. He goes off on tangents a lot when doing XCO (extra credit) and then speeds through the lecture which is unnecessarily fast. Just read your text and do the online practice tests and do extra credit and you'll be fine. Really good guy but awful teaching style.
Just read the book. I went to class about 4 times and I got an A in his class. The times I did go, he was very angry and made the class stand up and told us that he would cancel that days's class if no one answered his questions. I recommend him but he doesn't seem too happy.
People are CRAZY if they rate Dr.Drew low. Loved his class so much and I am a person who gets annoyed with teachers and have terrible listening skills. Political Science is not the most entertaining subject, but Dr.Drew makes it fun, and he makes the class laugh. Completed all my units and rate Dr.Drew in my top 3 favorite teachers!
Great Professor.
Dr. Drew is awesome.. I had great experience in this course and learned a lot. Read the chapters and do all the practice exams!..Participate in class discussions..Dr. Drew is awesome and I loved his XCOs..interesting class however the material is hard..try to accumulate as much extra credit as you can..2 quizzes and a midterm and a final..take him
He is the best.

hes so funny
i have no idea why everyone tries to get into this class. He is unclear, skips around during lectures and does not prepare you for the tests. I had perfect attendance, studied the online notes and practice tests and every time I got the test wondered where he pulled the questions from. 80% of questionswere vague and extremely difficult. total donk.
I really like politics, but i was really disappointed in this class. His notes were more like a script for his lecture. I'm not sure if he's reviewed them before because he just reads it, word for word, like a student who hasn't prepared for a class presentation. He's super conservative even though he says he is non-partisan. His tests were strange
Dr. Drew is an amazing teacher. He makes the class interesting & actively encourages his students to participate in class discussions. He is the KING of extra credit & truthfully he gives you a fair chance to create your own grade. He doe not like slackers. His lectures are clear and he is not a boring teacher. TAKE HIM!
Easy class, everything he lectures matches the textbook so you can miss class and read the book (but it's better to attend the lectures). Cool teacher, makes the class pretty entertaining sometimes.
This class consist of students bashing on the government and Drew rambling for 16 weeks about how students in the class were irresponsible citizens and need to vote. The class is only worth going because he makes a total full of himself at times. A complete dork. Test are super easy though.
Possibly the worst class I have ever taken. He spends the first 30 minutes of the class stumbling through what we will accomplish during the class, reads straconstantly is notes. constantly mentions how he will never share his personal views, then does nothing but. If you want to learn and grow, don't take this class
Dr drew is funny as hell, but hes kind of a nut. And he is the definition of disorganized. Only take this class if political science interests you.
If you do the work and read the book you will get an A. Offers insane amount of ectra credit. Every other word out of his mouth is "you know", gets annoying fast. Class is pointless but mandatory.
1. Not an easy class. You must be willing to read every single tidbit of the book and memorize the online study guide in order to get an A. 2. Do all extra credits in the class for an A. 3. This class is all about memorization and tests are extremely vague because he makes them on his own. 4. Class is extremely boring and he rambles on and on.
you can easily gain 60% before the final which is worth 40%, but his final is extremely difficult. He also give a "dream" speech in the final day, means that you will have less time to do the final. Many student think they will get an A or B just before the final, but after the final is over, they just hope that they can pass.
He use the whole class time to just review the chapter and he suppose that students has to read the book and study the material themselves, so why we need to have a prof? He said that he doesn't care about rate my professor, but he told students to recommend his class to other fellows. I guarantee you, he read every single comments in this site.
I honestly liked his class-he is definitely one of the best professors I've had at OCC. However, study, study, STUDY for his tests, especially his final exam (I can't emphasize that enough)-you really have to know the material for the tests. Also, if you can, go to the PASS group-it really helps you to understand and know the material.
Class was overall alright, but the teacher was very inconcise. He could not follow any kind of teaching structure and would ramble back and forth between a power point and notes, leaving it impossible to take notes. Should be an easy class but makes it difficult by making tests unclear. Overall funny guy but not a good teacher.
Dr. Drew really does know what he is talking about when it comes to Political Science. His class is hard and i highly recommend reading the book and ALL the handouts. a huge portions of the test/quizzes are on the handouts. He also offers tons of extra credit which i recommend to take advantage. His class is based on i think like 100 point system
This professor is a slacker. He comes unprepaired for class just reads powerpoints which are book chapter bullets. He is conservative and gives lots of personal opinion. He is strange, goes from joking to serious in 1.5 seconds. Someone needs to sit in and evaluate this man, too comfortable in his job.
AWESOME professor. The people here that are giving him bad reviews are just slackers. It's a COLLEGE class people! You have to be a fool if you think you can sail through ANY college course & not do the reading. It's definatley not an Easy A, but show up to class, participate, study for the exam & READ the text and you should get a good grade np.
Teacher is a funny guy, but don't let that deter you. His lectures are overview of the book's chapters, and to sit in that for 3 hours... I found myself nodding off. Tests/quizzes heavily rely on the book, so make sure you read! He gives a lot of extra credit that'll help boost your grade.
If your planning on taking a polysci class just for an igetc requirement, dont. Unless youre willing to either patricipate and listen for three hours or be bored out of your mind. I would often use this class as a time to do my math hw. And theres a potluck at the end of the semester. Free food. But its probably not worth the 3 hours of torture.
Easy class. I never showed up and I got an A. Gives out a ton of EC which good. Class is based on a 100 point total, so 1 pt ec's are worth a bit. Didn't like his heavy convervative/republican slant, even though he claims to be neutral. im not a dem or repub, but it was annoying him rant about how the media is against repubs and him cheering romney
He's a great teacher that makes you laugh but cannot teach. I know it's a college class but he doesn't really know how to each. Teaches notes from Word and Ppt and goes fast and tells you to read everything from the book. This is not the teacher you want he does not how to each believe me.
He can get boring sometimes but pretty easy class. Two test and two quizzes the entire semester. I only studied the vocabulary for the chapters and got a B.
I love this class!! So interesting and the teacher is cool. Make sure to study the book and handouts.
Dr.Drew was really funny and I loved all the stories he told, but his lectures would get long and boring. Not an easy class where you can slack off. He gives some extra credit so do them when theyre given because it'll help a lot! I would doze off but if he sees most of his class falling asleep he would make you do "brain stretches" which are nice
Show up to class, do your readings and the online practice tests. Dr. Drew is interesting and has amusing stories to share. Get on the Debate Team it was a fun experience. It's not hard to get an above average grade. Take this class!
Class is boring. This is my new subject and I hoped I can learn sth new, interesting but nahh. Basically you have to read almost entire the chapters to ace the tests and quizzes. both are hard. requires lots of readings, memorizing. Don't ever take him unless hes ur last choice. Oh, I meant, u prob can wait for next term no?
I took his 3.5 hour once a week class and believe me you would wish it was online. He spends almost an hour an half just to have people talk in front of the class. Then he rushes through the lecture and doesn't teach you anything. Hes a nice guy but it is all up to you to pass this class. Its only 100 points and difficult
Have just finished his class and feel so happy. I got 89.5/100, but I did some extra credits so I ended up 95.5/100. Take his class and be sure to read the book, read the book and read the book. Almost all of the test questions are from the book. Lecture is a little boring though it make reading easier. Take advantage of extra credits, ton of them
good news is there are tons of extra credits, I think you can get maximum 15+ of them, it's 15% of the total 100 point system, so you only need to get the other 75% from 4 tests to get an A. easy job! Bad news is the tests are solely based on the textbook, which required careful reading and memorizing. Good luck to all who take him
He is an excellent teacher and his tests are some what hard but if you read each chapter and take good notes you'll do great just don't fall behind in reading! And theres a lot of extra credit that can help you boost up your grade!I enjoyed his class and he talks about current issues. All his tests are multiple choice with a few and false
Dissatisfied. He rambles his opinions and his tests try to trick you vs help you. He's a funny guy but out of a 3 hr class there's barely 1hr of substance.
Attending class is utterly pointless. He lectures 25% of the time and complains about Obamacare the other 75% of the class. He is very inconsistent with his teaching and doesn't give you a study guide or a clear idea of whats going to be on the test. For the exams just read the book, and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. The class is out of 100 points!
Dr.drew knows his stuff and if you read the book and memorize vocabs you can do well but you have to read very thoroughly, i mean from top to bottom. Huge complain is that he uses the word ' Kimchi' in replacement of the 's' word quite often which was very insulting.
While he is a nice guy and genuinely cares about his students, his teaching methods are not the best. He spends too much time on extra activities and not enough time on teaching lectures. Tests are difficult when he lectures are not always the most direct. Definitely buy the book; you will need it.
Dr. Drew is a funny guy, but if you can't survive a few awkward jokes, don't take him. I literally didn't study for his tests. Its multiple choice , and if you use common sense and context clues , you'll be fine. Do the Extra Credit, the class is out of 100 points.
Dr. Drew is a nice & funny guy. His class was large and it's easy to get mixed in the crowd. If you want an A, you MUST study and read text b/c there is no study guide. You must try to sit in the front if you can so he will get to know you. And you MUST do oral presentation(s)... every point counts, he only uses a 100 pt grade scale! Good luck!!
Dr Drew is super funny. Keep up on the reading and you'll be fine. Uses the text a lot. Do the extra credit and speak up, he'll give more "S.E.O." if you engage.
Don't take this class if you have liberal views and aren't afraid to express them, he'll shoot you down. He's republican and isnt afraid too vocalize it. Spends too much time talking nonsense and not teaching. His grading scale is terrible, the class itself isn't hard, his tests are just confusing. DO EXTRA CREDIT.
Interesting class. He did give some extra credit but overall not an easy class. The final was the hardest test so study really hard for it! Book is necessary.
Awesome Prof, but too nice, which makes you not try. He's not hard on students and its easy to fall behind, but keep up with the reading and you'll be fine. Also, I will be listing his American Govt book for sale for $15 in great condition on yorbin soon and you can buy using local yorbin pick up, so we dont have to meet in person.
Above all, a hard class. is notes are practically useless. He skims through the book with unhelpful PowerPoint notes. On the bright side, he give ALOT of easy extra credit. You must read the book to pass the class. I do not recommend his class; he is not a good teacher nor does he clarify the topics right. He just says the word SLACKER A lot.
Terrible teacher. His class just consists of him scrolling down his ancient word file, and most of the time he's doing it for the hell of "getting through the chapter" so he can test you on it rather than actually going in depth on most of the topics. His tests are OK just read the chapters word for word. He is also conservative. Avoid taking him.
He does not know how to teach at all and gets very condescending when he doesn't agree with your opinion.Worst teacher I've ever taken at OCC. Took him because I enjoy poli sci and needed the units but I dropped it because he was just terrible.
His notes are useless. Read the book and study from that. Take up any extra credit you can. He's really cool but respect him and he will respect you. Only thing I didn't like about him was his constant making students get up and stretch. I hate that and when I didn't he called me out on it. Read read read the textbook I can't stress that enought,
He is really outgoing and funny teacher who tries to get his students involved in poli tics and encourages them to think. On a more real note: take class in a small lecture (for purposes of understanding, in-class activities, and qbundance of extra credit); READ THE BOOK (if it is on the test it will be in the book); collect as much extra credit.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. His lectures are extremely boring and pointless, considering nothing he lectures on is on the tests. His tests are solely based on the books, so you have to reread and memorize chapters.
Great class. Mr Rendelle is a smart guy he knows whats up i enjoyed this class even thou i dont like political science. his tests are challenging but just study hard and do all the assignments and you will do good. I recommend his class for PSCI 180
Honestly, not a very easy class. But everything is straight out of the book. Dr. Drew goes off on tangents a lot and tends to give his opinion more than is necessary. Doing the extra credit is really important. Grades out of 100 points so one mistake is major.
Once I figured out the tests were based mostly off of the online practice tests, it was a breeze. I was struggling before that...
Tries too hard to be funny and talks about random things in class that have nothing to do with his tests. His tests are hard and you have no idea whats going to be on them until he hands them out to you in class. You can get away with not attending because his lectures are so pointless. Read the book and make flashcards. Avoid taking him.
Worst teacher at OCC. Difficult tests and extremely boring lectures. Barely passed the class because his grading scale is out of 100. I couldnt drop the class because I needed the class to transfer but if you can, try taking it with another teacher.
Focus on reading the material in the text book. Before taking Dr Drew's tests it is VITAL to review vocabulary and quiz questions from the course textbooks website. Complete as many extra credit options as possible. If you miss school work due to a legitimate reason than you should talk to him, he's understanding make sure to stretch and breathe.
Worst teacher ever. Avoid at all cost!!!
he's little insecure because of the past ratings here. you can tell because he gives the class hints that he doesnt care about the ratings. if he truly didnt care , then he wouldnt talk about it. i can see why he is the way he is from the comments here.
he will think you don't like him if you stay quiet and dont participate. he doesnt understand that we're not all political science majors and are only here to get the class out the way. He will walk arrogantly and intentionally but "accidentally" kick your desk if he doesnt like you. Just kick back his podium "accidently" to balance the universe.
I really enjoy his class, the lectures are interesting if you have an opinion & you're willing to voice it. The 1st quiz was easy but then he said it was too easy bcuz a lot of high scores. Mid-term was hard, I studied all week but got a C. A lot of what he said 2 know & study was not on the test. Only 1 A then he was pissed & called us slackers.
Dr. Drew's class is difficult because political science simply isn't supposed to be easy. However, if you thoroughly read the book, I don't see why you won't pass. He offers tons of extra credit opportunities; it's up to you to take advantage of them. I also find it helpful to read the chapters that are going to be covered before the class meeting.
His test are TOUGH. If you don't plan on doing the readings, don't take him. He does give a lot of extra credit, but definitely not enough to make up for your entire grade. His lectures apply to the class, but his tests are NOT AT ALL based on them. Readings are long, and his lectures are boring . Passable class, but I wouldn't take him again.
You slackers who say he is a bad teachers, you are wrong my friend. Rather boring lectures but this is a subject we all need as citizens. SEO galore. READ THE BOOK. Test are an easy A if you read & take notes on the readings. He is an amazing teacher, just do your part. Very helpful. Recommended to everyone, by far one of the best teachers at OCC!
Long lectures are boring, but I loved discussions. He gives really good feed back and I enjoy listening to his points of views. Read the book, you will do fine. There is plenty of opportunity for extra credit which saved my grade. (I didn't do much reading). If you love discussions and evem debating, take him :) I'd love to take him again
I took his class in the spring of 2013 (Monday nights); I felt his presentation of the material was relatively neutral and thought he exhibited a lot of restraint by not forcing his personal views on us. This was particularly helpful at the time, as there was some political upheaval at some of the four-year institutions with their P-SCI profs.
he is terrible and bends over for us veterans avoid him as he brainwashes you about us government he is to single minded about america and is manipulated by the us government's influence on media. He needs to take a more outside approach and think globally. He doesnt see outside perspectives like how would Mexicans or Chinese people think of us.
Take responsibility, show up, participate in lectures and be a mature thinker. Pretty easy class, long lectures and off topic material in class. READ THE BOOK FOR TESTS!
Dr. Drew is an amazing professor and he is really funny. His lectures helped me with the tests and as I read the chapters. Expect to read a lot and use online quizzes to help get ready for the tests. Also do the extra credit it really helped me. Attend class, read the chapters and do quizzes, and you will do fine.
He is not a very good teacher overall. His exams are mostly from the book. He gives 85 MC questions to answer in an hour and I've seen a lot of students struggling to pass his class. I would not recommend him.
Dr. Drew is one of the coolest Professors I've had. He made it easy for you come talk to him. You will Pass the class if you try, and take him up on extra credit if for some reason you don't do well on tests or just to have extra points
He has a power point in every class and discusses from the textbook. At the end of the semester you can join an in-class debate for extra credit. Tests are pretty hard and you have to do your assigned reading.
Don't be on your phone, and bring your book to class along with all the handouts you have to print.
Dr. Drew Is a good professor He will help you if you just go up and ask.
Gives tons of extra credit. Tests are tricky, do the practice tests online based off the textbook. Had I known at the start of the semester, I would have got an A. Good luck trying to see him during office hours, he's never there.
His class is boring. You can easily get away with not attending considering the fact that all of his exams are based off of the book and his lectures literally teach you nothing. He offers extra credit which helps if you score low on an exam. Overall, terrible teacher, I do not recommend taking his class.
He gives extra credit which really boosts your grade if you're in trouble. He doesn't do a good a good job of teaching which is why i struggled with the exams. His grading criteria is very unclear and you will not know what to expect on the exams.
Took this class because I needed it to transfer. The stuff in the book is interesting but the class sessions weren't. I would come to class and read the book in class instead of listening. He's an okay professor, but I have had better.
Terrible teacher. Rushes through outlines that he pretty much copy-pastes from the book. Is more disruptive of his own class than the students. Talks about himself more than the subject, which gets frustrating as his tests are hard and none of the material on them is discussed in class. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
This class is not recommended. He rushes through all lectures, which are basically copied from the textbook. Hates it when students ask questions. Talks about himself. Tests are hard and are expected to read a lot in order to pass. If you LOVE the subject and LOVE a challenge take him. Or else, good luck.
Dr Drew is one of the best Professors at OCC, he makes his lecture very entertaining at the same that you learning. He invite you to participate in the political process of your U.S. He stresses the fact that we live in a democracy and hates socialism. Lots of Extra Credit, study the material and you have an easy A. No free rides with him.
Dr. Drew the perfect combination of passion, personality, and performance. Not only is he passionate about the subject, but also the students. He posess an open, understanding, and approachable personality. Very nice professor I just took, his class and learned a lot.
Great professor. He's really passionate about political science which makes the class that much more enjoyable. His teaching material comes straight from the textbook, so if you want to do well, read the textbook, take the practice tests online, and be attentive in class.
His tests are difficult you have to make sure to do all of the reading and the online practice test. The lectures are repetitive and you will hear a lot of the same stories throughout the semester. I felt he did an okay job staying neutral while teaching. The text book is custom and expensive, I was not able to sell it back, total bummer. :(
Trys to push his political views on students while in the same breath saying he wants you to find your own beliefs.
Dr. Drew spends the first 35 minutes of class doing SEO's (students bring in articles&discuss them) then he goes off about his personal life a lot. The last 30 minutes of class is him briefly going over the PowerPoint on the chapter & he expects you to know everything in the book even if he didn't go over it. His tests are hard, lucky to get a C.
I completely REGRET taking this class. He's a very nice guy, funny, but dear god, his lectures are horrendous, he favors students (ex: calls them out as being star students, hands out tests in order by grade received, which can be a punch to the ego if you didn't do as well as you thought and totally inappropriate in my opinion). plus side:ECREDIT
This professor is by far the most offensive teacher I have ever had. I heard things I could not believe! He is close minded and you will gain nothing from this class but the credit you need. I do not know where he gets his test content but it isn't from the book or lectures, and he literally reads off the notes ( which are useless) DO NOT TAKE!
This class dragged on the entire semester. Dr. Drew spends so much of his time during lecture going off on tangents. Halfway during the semester we still didn't understand what we should've been learning from lecture. Tough grader and his tests are wordy and difficult no matter how much you study. You'll be lucky to earn a C.
EASY A. The questions from the test are literally straight up from the book. The entire class was worth 100 points, two 25 point midterms. He offers A TON of extra credit, usually worth 2 points each which adds up when the whole class is only 100 points. If you read your book & do the homework its an easy A for sure.
Either you love him or you hate him. Great person, I disliked his class.
Took his class over winter and did better than I expected. His tests are hard, so you have to go to class because he tells you "major points of interest". I wish he gave out study guides to narrow down what is on the test... However, he does give out a lot extra credit opportunities! Dr. Drew is also super funny & his lectures are entertaining
There are only 100 points in the class. midterm and the final worth 25 pts. each, homework worth 10 pts, case-study assignment, and two quizzes. I actually tried hard and was able to get an A. Go to class, no so much to get notes but to get the main point of interest. The quizzes, midterm, and final are straight from the book. Offers extra credit.
Dr. Drew is my favorite. The first day of class he scared everyone a bit with how intimidating he came off to be, but do not let him scare you away. He loves teaching, has so much experience and really cares that you do well in his class. He is passionate about the subject and always cracks jokes. I genuinely recommend his class to everybody.
DR. Drew is an amazing professor that really makes students his priority. Class is worth 100 points. Exams can be hard. Reading & buying textbook is mandatory to pass class. His lectures & class are fun/interesting. He really makes PSI easier to understand. Offers extra credit. Does not give extra work if is not needed. Definitively recommend him
I would not recommend this professor. He goes off topic and talks about himself too much. No study guide whatsoever. His lectures are done the last 30 minutes of class. You basically have to read to understand what's on the test (because his lectures don't cover the material). On the plus side, he is entertaining.
If you can find another professor for PolySci take them. His lectures were BORING, he's rude and obnoxious. His test are difficult because they don't make sense and are worded very weird. Even if he says the books mandatory DON'T BUY IT! Just buy the access code and get the book on there. He gives extra credit DO ALL OF IT to make sure to pass!!
Least favorite professor so far. Goes off topic constantly, always wants to state his opinion but hates it when students do. Wastes a lot of time with his "extra credit" current event sharing (AKA same 3 students who share every night). Thinks he's funny but is just rude and obnoxious. Do the homework and pass your case study and you'll be fine.
If you're lazy, don't bother. If you are a hard worker, let me tell you, he is the best teacher I have had. He is tough, and his tests are confusing and difficult but if you read the textbook, there is no reason why anyone couldn't get a B in this class especially with the amount of extra credit he offers. Class in 100 points, offers 20pts EC,
Drew is passionate about what he teaches, but his teaching style doesn't really translate that. He is more focused on trying to stay on schedule that he outlined rather than actually taking the time to teach a subject. His lectures seem to ramble on most times. You'll find yourself teaching the course to yourself through the textbook.
It's easy to pass his course he lectures on is in the book and will be on the exam. The questions on the exam are not difficult if you've done reading and homework and paid attention during the lectures. People that often do bad & complaining in the course we're students I noticed trying to take advantage of his kindness. Everything is pretty clear
Not an easy A, but if you do the 3 HW's, show up to class and write down only the keywords he mentions, and study from the internet service he provides for the test, you should get at least a B. With the extra credit and cool work an A is easy. very inspirational teacher, does not tow the communist line, and he loves america.
Dr. Drew is one of my favorite profs at OCC. If you want an objective prospective of American government(and politics hehe), I highly recommend the Doc.
Condescending. Class is all over the place just reading from lecture slides that don't even match the information that is on the test. Test is multiple choice either common sense knowledge or random trivia fact you would only get from doing the reading which I did not do. Nothing gained from going to class except forced attendance like preschooler
Expects everyone to read the books claiming that the entire test is from there when it's not. The only real knowledge you'll get is by reading, nowhere else. He may be a good person, but his teaching skills are horrible. Tests are long and hard to follow.
If you find the class unbearably difficult it's because: A) You didn't do the reading/take notes in class/put in any effort whatsoever. B) You are too used to High school level classes (which this class is only marginally more difficult than). The tests that he uses are made by the book company that makes the textbook so if you read you're golden.
I took PoliSci 180 over intercession and I would thoroughly recommend his class for that. It is fast paced US Gov't and history so there is a lot of info. Pay attention in class, read the book, study your notes and you will ace this class. Anyone complaining about him obviously didn't pay attention or was unwilling to do the work.
Recommend by my counselor to take him, I regret it. Lectures are all over the place. Switches from slides to papers, back to slides. No consistency at all. Expects you to write notes within seconds. Yes read the book it helps,if you are a student that learns more off lectures I recommend to not take him. Loves going off topic throughout lecture.
Truly is the best professor at OCC. Always happy, always smiling and has an amazing positive outlook. He makes u feel like u can accomplish anything. He gives u the best extra credit opps. (things u will actually enjoy doing) HW is easy and fun to do. Tests are a little difficult but nothing crazy if u study. Every teacher wishes they were him!
LOOOK NO FURTHER!! Stop reading and go back to your MyOCC account and register for this class. You can thank me later. Aight.
100 pt total class. Outside EC (campus events) up to 8 points. In-class EC opportunities were numerous, but many people did not take advantage of it. It was not capped. Exams aren't hard if you do the homework and pay attention in lecture. Like other posters mentioned, he is disorganized and goes on tangents but you're not penalized for it.
I don't recommend. His class is absurdly weighed- 100 pts for the semester including midterm, final, HW. He tells us we did bad on his tests, & that we need to study more, but the problem is his poorly designed test questions and lack of review during class for the exams. His lectures hardly have anything to do with test material. Disorganized.
Lectures are redundant, he goes over the chapter notes and hardly ever introduces new ideas or concepts. Lots of extra credit opportunities but all are outside of class. Hardly any homework. Dr. Drew gets easily annoyed when you ask him questions or will just dance around the subject instead of giving a direct answer.
His lectures drone on and he doesn't teach anything I learned everything from the book. Tests are confusing and WAY to wordy. At the end of the year he asked if there were any comments about his class and he didn't listen to criticism and laughed in my face when I suggested that he put the lecture notes on Canvas like any other professor would.
If ur sensitive or easily offended, I'm sorry but this is not the class for u. Dr. Drew is the BEST professor at OCC and was recommended by several other profs who believe in his work. His teaching style is so effective, it will keep u engaged the entire class. He will have u on the floor laughing the entire semester. Dr Drew is THE MAN! aiiighttt
Lectures do not match quizzes and tests, asks for class participation and debates but will interrupt you the entire time. I passed by reading the online book and taking my own notes, doing the online homework and showing up for quizzes and tests. Does offer a TON of extra credit opportunities which is awesome.
I was in the large lecture hall class which didn't do the debates so I can't comment on that part of the class. His quizzes/tests are based on the key points he emphasizes during the lecture. If you study the notes and the textbooks, you should be fine for the tests. Offers a decent amount of opportunities for extra credit.
He was one of my favorite professors. If I could go back and take this class again, I would.
One of the worst professors I've taken at OCC. Lectures are boring and useless. Advice is to show up to class sign your name off on the roll call and then leave. He doesn't really understand in depth how politics work. Tests are mostly useless trivia questions. Uses an expensive online textbook that is at times inaccurate. Lot of extra credit.
his lectures are terrible. he'll read a few lines out of the book then talk about his personal opinion for like 10 minutes then skip onto the next section. doesn't post his lectures or give out study guides. he lacks professionalism, always giving his personal opinion, "challenges his students" by dismissing their opinion if it doesn't match his
He is one of the worst professor I have taken in OCC. He doesn't know politics at all. His teaching style is he just reads what's in the textbook.
Dr. Drew is an excellent professor who cares about all his students. I recommend taking his smaller class because the larger classes did not nearly do as much group work as we did. Dr. Drew is an inspiring teacher. You the man Dr. Drew!
Dr. Drew talks about current issues and relates them to the material in the textbook. I gained a lot of wisdom from his lectures and the tools to form a well thought out opinion from the information gather from media outlets. If you are sensitive don't go to his lecture because even though he is respectful you will find something to complain about
Dr Drew is the most inspiring professor I have met at OCC. Read the book and take a good note in class will help you on all the exams. Tests are not too easy and not too hard but doable. I promise that youll miss this class like I did.
Trash. Always mumbling in his "lectures" which aren't even lectures... it's just him reading from a google doc (not even a powerpoint) and he scrolls through it incredibly fast and no one can write anything down. whether or not you raise your hand to participate in class or go to him personally to ask a question, prepare to be belittled. Unhelpful.
One of the most inspiring professor I have ever met! Super friendly, productive, and helpful. He went over the materials quickly so you need to read the books before class. He doesnt post notes online because he expected students to pay attention in class. Take as much extra credit as soon as possible. Trust me, you will need them at the end.
DR. DREW! LISTEN UP AIIIIIIIIIIIGHHHTTT?! Dr. Drew is the man! he's intelligent, hilarious, his lectures are rarely boring because this man loves engaging the class in discussions sometimes leading to some hilarious story, it's a lot of fun. Read the book, do what he says, pay attention, easy A plus he's a super good dude. Best professor in polisci
Just one word USELESSNESS.
Had Dc. Drew this pass semester (fall). His teaching skills are very old. No power point, simply notes on a word doc. No study guides youre on your own. Extra credit is available though. Hes not a fan of laptops but you can use them. He gets off topic very easily so that can be a little annoying at times.
If you asked me to describe this man in one sentence I would tell you that he rates himself on rates my professor .
He wrote on the board & verbally stressed that our exam time was 11:20-11:50. He started to yell at the lecture hall around 11:35 about how slow we are, repeating this consecutively for 10 min. He also had a conversation about football. Impatient, he started the lecture at 11:45, 5min before it was supposed to end while people were still taking it.
Get ready to put up $$ for his book and access code in order to do the homework. Class is based on 100 points. If you like organization, do NOT take this class. Canvas is just flooded with all kinds of documents and he constantly goes off topic during lectures. Does offer a good amount of extra credit. Likes to hear himself talk.
High expectations of the students but does a poor job in the lecture: copies material from book, poor time management (rushes to finish when out of time), lectures are very hard to follow, very fast passed (extremely hard to take notes), poor job engaging students, shows lack of effort in the material (not helpful material) Read! it's all on you!
Overall the lectures felt rushed and I felt the weight of the class all on my shoulders throughout the semester. He was not approachable/helpful. No study guide for hard tests. Way too much info, not enough teaching, lectures seem lazily put together, lectures have no structure and are all over the place. 10 year is the reason he's still teaching
Read! study the connect homework he gives you as an additional source. This class is easy if you are constantly ahead. Get behind and you will fail. Overall the lecture felt unnecessary. I would have rather taken an online class because It was basically the same thing. Lectures not helpful :(
If you are looking for organization and a linear-style lecture, this class is not for you. The lectures were all over the place and expectations were never fully clear. It's one of those classes where you understand the material through the book more than the class. My learning style was not compatible with his teaching.
One of the worst classes I have taken. I emailed the professor over 3 times and never got a reply. He cut our first quiz time short and got upset when the class did poorly. Lectures are extremely disorganized and he doesn't let students see the powerpoints outside of class.
Complete and well done book, full of information that he completed with several more things, especially at the beginning (about nomenclature), which made for an intense and very complete course. He struggled a little with the online transition because of Covid, but went the extra mile to make it. Very good person! Lectures could get confusing...
if you need to take a class to get back into going to school, or you just want to introduce some uncertainty, chaos and uncomfortable "did he just say that" moments into your day, then sign up. I took this class a year ago and I still think about it. the class itself is nearly intolerable but the spectacle is sublime. get ready for the ruckus.
Great professor that cares about his students' success, but doesn't like SLACKERS! Pay attention to the lectures and you'll do good on the tests. Lots of extra credit opportunities so if you struggle with the material or get a bad test grade, you can definitely make it up. Super funny, calls it how it is (doesn't like any party, only likes facts)!
Honestly, he was very interesting as a prof. He had trouble switching to online but the course is easy if you do the homework and make sure you are caught up on everything. It is one of those classes that stresses you out and sometimes the lectures could get confusing. Not an easy A but interesting class at least.
Dr. Rendell Drew is a very kind hearted professor who is very passionate about what he does. He is very knowledgeable about government and he knows how to keep his students engaged in his class. He is clear and very helpful in giving us the best experience in learning. Regular homework and tests. Offers extra credit. Thank you Dr. Drew.
I'll put it simply: avoid at all costs. I don't like being critical of teachers cause I can't imagine it's a very easy job, but this was the worst class I've ever taken. It's probably due to the fact that we've transitioned online, but he has an aid & it's been almost a year now - it should have been better organized. Just don't do it.
I took Dr. Drew for online American Government, there are only a handful of assignments that make up your grade so this is not a class you can leave till the last minute. Very informational lectures and makes himself very available. Highly recommend.
Dr. Drew was a good teacher, his class was easy and could sometimes be fun. I recommend him for an easy class with lots of extra credit chances and a low workload.
Dr. Drew is and Amazing teacher. He is not bias which is something that is hard to find in a polisci class. While sometimes he does share his opinion (this is polisci), he makes it clear that it is his opinion and he respects others beliefs. His mission is to teach students the facts and not an agenda. There needs to be more teachers like Dr. Drew!
Easy McGraw hill activities, all due at the end of the semester, mostly go at your own pace. As long as you read and take good notes, the exams should be pretty easy. (1 hr for 50 questions) Lectures are not mandatory also he gives a tonnnn of extra credit assignments- def take advantage of it cus I passed with like a 103%
Amazing Professor. The best at Orange Coast College. I would highly recommend taking a class with Dr. Drew! He is very insightful, kind and understanding. Also, his class was very memorable and interesting.
This class was not hard, but this professor struggles with the online format. All instructions are unclear and visually hard to parse. He changes fonts, letter sizes, colors, and highlighting with every new line and his syllabus is incredibly hard to read. Most correspondence is through his aide or in overloaded and overly frequent announcements.
Very clear of topics that will be on the test, lots of extra credit opportunities!
Would definitely take his class again. If you pay attention in class, take notes, do the hw, and study for the tests and quizzes, it is very easy to pass. He is one of the few teachers I've had who teaches with passion and joy. You can tell he enjoys his job a lot and I didn't have any complaints.
Dr.Drew does not care about your party affiliation, he will only tell you the facts and will let you know when he is giving his personal opinions. Gives "Grade Insurance"(Extra Credit), so take advantage of that. I took his accelerated course, so his lectures were long. Other than that, his assignments are pretty straight forward.
Dr. Drew is a very respectable teacher. He's a very encouraging, charismatic teacher. His homework is helpful. It's an online textbook that quizzes you and rates your percentage of understanding. His tests are conceptual and deductive-reasoning and have a lot of political jargon that I couldn't understand.
For an online class the canvas was almost unreadable. the modules were cluttered and were repeats copy pasted from past canvas courses. If you don't care about the canvas set up and took a gov class in high school you should be set.
Tough Class. It was an easy A but very difficult to achieve. He doesn't provide anything at all, his assistant will basically be your teacher and not him. Only thing he would do was announcements and that's all. Prerecorded lectures from 2020-21. For some reason an 89% is an A so I was chillin.
grade consists of mcgraw hw tests. the hw is easy but time consuming if you actually read the text. tests are hard and is only 0.5 points because he knows people cheat. take advantage of the extra credit!!!
What a gift it was to be able to take a class with Dr.Drew!!! I really mean that. It is a college class so get ready to show up, do the assignments, and put some work in . Dr.Drew is up there with my favorite professors of all time. He truly is a caring, informative, and dedicated professor. This man found his calling/passion in life.
Brutal. His lectures are as accurate and helpful as your local high school baseball coach substitute teaching government. He has difficulty reading half the graphs he himself picked for his lectures! Test questions are barely coherent, instructions often contradictory. I only got a good grade because of my passion for the subject/ the textbook.
Dr. Drew held optional live lectures where he offered extra credit for your participation. He also had weekly pre-recorded lectures which I don't believe were necessary to watch. I'd say just the review lectures before an exam were helpful. Do the homework & take notes from his slides. This class is test heavy as it is only out of 100 points.
Good guy but not a good prof. Only reads off slideshow so lectures aren't useful and a waste of time. He gets off track often. Read the textbook and slides posted on canvas to do well. Basically you teach yourself. Homework is easy but doesnt always help with exams. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Exams are difficult and provides no study guide
I finished intersession which was not bad. Dr. Drew introduced current events and outside world that would relate to politics and government itself; which really cool. Negatives was only one day the quiz which closes at midnight But all in all, Rendell is a good professor. I met him in person and he was super nice, who told me to enroll him!!!
During intersession Dr. Drew class was a breeze. He introduced current/present events that would relate to politics and government itself. Only negative is that quizzes will be open for one day and close at midnight. But overall, Drew is a good professor. I met him in person, and he energetically encourage me to take his class! I recommend him!
Took this course during Intercession 2024. I did enjoy the course, the class is super easy but you should know: 1. The textbook is required because it gives access to the homework and textbook that we have to read and it is $130 2. The class is only 100 points 4 exams and 10 homework points 3. Extra credit is offered but not a lot
Dr. Drew is passionate about teaching and political science. He cares a lot about what the students get out of the class and it seems like one of his main goals is to share that passion with them. The only downsides are that you must purchase the $100+ dollar textbook to get credit for hw and the wording of his tests can be very convoluted.
It is best NOT to take the class during Intersession, which would really extremely difficult to follow your understanding about US Gov't. Dr. Drew is a good professor. I took the class during Intersession 2024, so my experience with him was poor. Despite that, there are news articles to search for extra credits, which were not that much.
One of the better political science courses. Professor Drew's lectures can be hit-or-miss, but the homework and review sessions are extremely helpful. Definitely use unstuckstudy ai and the free textbook to stay on top of the material.
I would never recommend this course or professor. I did well in the class but he was clueless on the subject matter, lazy when it came to getting back to students questions, and had a lack of respect for others. I think the school should take serious action here if they are true to their word they care about students educational development
