he's very clear and very helpful. he gives chances for extra credit. he's very dedicated to his students. he's the department chairperson and still finds time to teach. if you have questions, he'll always have time for you while at his office and he's always busy. I highly recommend him for any mathematics class he's teaching and you need.

I took him for Dif equations. He has great lectures and makes tests very easy by giving review tests.. just changes the numbers. 2 out of the 4 tests were take home! Easy A.

BEST PROFESSOR FOR MATHEMATICS

I'm gonna be frank; this class is boring though he is a really good prof. Tests are alright as long as you study, of course! By the way, 20% of your grade comes from homework.

In the first few lectures its going to be scary cause you have never seen math being written down as Diff Equations but he will get better at showing you how to work out the problems. His homework reinforces what you learned in class with the same writing. Tests are the samething he shows you in class. He is very clear in lecture just scary at 1st.

Excellent teacher, clear and to the point in his instruction yet includes relevant and interesting background information on the math, like the proofs and history that lead to its discovery for example. Very generous with grades, provided several extra credit opportunities and made very fair tests. Definitely expect to learn a lot.

I've been blessed with great math teachers in MDC but Barrientos is the best math teacher MDC has. I took DiffEq with him and I swear I thought I was gonna fail, but he explains everything crystal clear. He hates to use the book. He sends reviews, homework, and well written examples that help you ace his class.

He was awesome! I am a nervous test taker and provides plenty of reviews, helpful homework, and answers to any questions. He doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions, he's supportive and encouraging. Even cracks a few jokes and makes for a comfortable learning environment. He also provides plenty of opportunities to help your grade!

He gives you guys notes and practice problems that are really useful. We did have a lot of tests, but he gives reviews, which are previous tests. They are GOLD. If you get the reviews, you WILL get a good grade on his class. Trust me when I say that if you can take him, take him and you won't regret it. He makes it easy for you, so TAKE HIM!

Never in my 12 years of school did I ever understand math until I started my first year of college this year and took Prof Barrientos. He gives you reviews before every test that REALLY help you pass them. He goes over even the simplest things to make sure you fully understand, and I thank him so much for that. He taught me so much! Professor Barrientos really did make my perspective of math change. I used to hate math but after his class, I loved it. He explains every step clearly and is extremely helpful. He gives you many practice worksheets and test reviews that are very similar to the test so DO THEM!

Definitely the best Math professor. He would explain anything you don't understad over and over again until you get! Some HW but not too much, 4 test for which he gives reviews that have exactly the same type of exercises that are in the tests. No midtern, but you have a final which is a piece of cake. Rene is literally the best math professor ever. I really dislike math but he makes it extremely easy for you. He also provides numerous extra credit assignments and allows you to replace a missed quiz or a low score for your final exam grade. This is the second class I took with him and it was the summer term which was shorter. He is good and provides extra credit. However; he kind of seem to forget this was a shorter term and we had a quiz every other week which was exhausting, and the class is kind of confusing since it's Discrete Mathematics. Your grade is based only on all quizzes.

Professor Barrientos could possibly be the best Calculus and math professor at MDC. He goes over important and interesting topics about math and real life, that make his class worth while. Everything is done through my math lab and if you have any questions regarding the homework or the exams, he is always available after class. 10/10 amazing.

How do I begin to even explain the great man that is Prof Barrientos? This professor is truly a gem. He is so kind and caring, you wouldn't even believe it. He truly does his best to help students with the material which can be very difficult if math isn't your strong suit. Easily accessible outside of class. Do yourself a favor and take his class.

Due to Covid, I have remoted class with him. And he is awesome. Attendance is not mandatory. HW and test from MyMathLab. No final. 6 test total. All HW is due by the end of the semester. I would love to take his class again.

I've taken him for Pre-Cal/Trig, Calc 1, and will be taking him for Calc 2. He is the real deal. He wants you to pass but also to learn. I have never had a professor who was more knowledgeable and an expert in his field. You can tell he really enjoys teaching and mathematics. Honestly, he made me love math. It's one of my favorite subjects now.

I have taken Barrientos for Calc 1 , Calc 2 and Calc 3. Only regret is not have taking him sooner. If you put work you get and A, if you show up and see what the class is about you pass. He wants you to learn and to pass. Is hard to fail his class.

He consists of 5 exams, 29 homeworks, I've taken him for calc 1, 2 and now 3 and will be taking him for stats, overall a good professor, he will work with you to make sure you understand and he records lessons incase you can't make it to class which is a plus for those who work, I am horrible at math but somehow he makes it easy enough for me.

This was my second course I took Rene for this semester. I am the guy who commented below. For being an upper division course, this class was fairly easy and involved basic algebraic concepts with a little seasoning sprinkled through it. Overall a very fun class and I learned a lot! Rene is the GOAT wherever he goes. A must-take!

I've taken Professor Barrientos classes for all my math requirements. He's an amazing professor. The material is difficult, but he does take his time to explain and give ensure students are understanding.

HW 10% (on every chapter, no more than 10 questions), 5 quizzes 30%, Midterm 30%, final 30%, attendance not mandatory. Asynchronous, so not in person. very organized, explains very good. HW is on MyMathLab so you must purchase the ebook, quizzes and exams not proctored, tends to hold the class a little past class time due to explaining.

If your taking calc 2 stop what your doing and sign up for his class. All the assignments are on mathlabs, he gives you 4 attempts to take each quiz and final! this prof does a great job at explaining the material and he's very carrying. Email him what sections will be on the quizes and he'll tell you exactly. really enjoyed taking his class.

Respectful towards students, answers any questions you may have, great lectures, and great grading policy. Do not hesitant to take him for any math class.

Chill teacher, sometimes id miss class and he wouldn't notice, so I'm not completely sure about attendance. There were quite a good amount of quizzes BUT, he gives you days to do them, they're not proctored, and they're not timed. Would 100% take the class again.

Barrientos is a great professor, he will pretty much answer any and all questions and gives pretty in depth explanations. He makes the class a little bit too easy, which is fine but I wanted to challenge myself more as I love math. The lectures were also painstakingly slow. It was hard to pay attention to one simple question for 30-40 mins.

Excellent teacher, allows four tries on ALL quizzes, tests, and final/midterm exams. There is no better teacher for your grade than him. This man is a godsend. Out of my two years of community college, this was the course that concerned me the most. This man made it so easy, it's unreal. His lectures are AMAZING; you cannot fail this man's course. Everything was unproctored, but he makes his own quizzes and exams, and your grade is only based on the 4 Quizzes, Midterm, and Final.

Great Professor, non-proctor exams, homework is heavy, but overall he helps you understand the concepts. Lecture is very excellent, and gives clear and concise of how the class works and each topic/lesson. Really recommend.

Very good professor but does often mix up numbers in class and will notice later or have to be corrected. Not a big deal because it does get fixed but can be confusing. Otherwise very caring and doesn't give very long assignments and is willing to extend deadlines if needed.

Incredible lectures go in-depth with formulas, and much more. He sometimes goes on tangents on how the formulas were discovered but it's somewhat endearing. 30~ assignments in total on mathlab 4 Quizzes not proctored with 4 attempts. They're a little time-consuming but not awful. Would highly recommend if you want to learn or want an easy grade.

All of the assignments are non-proctured hw and exams are all on Matlab. I showed up to the first class and never again just because attendance is not mandatory and I prefer to study on my own time. Great prof, easy accessible, and very understanding. I will be taking him again.

Wonderful professor. He is very kind, caring, and understanding and just wants you to learn. Lectures were pretty fast paced due to time but this professor really does his best to help you learn. Grading and tests were straightforward. Lots of homework but you have all semester to do it. Tests were also fairly simple. 10/10 class.

Prof Barrientos was one of the best professors I have had. His explanations to problems are clear and the exams are very similar to the homework.

Professor Barrientos is the only reason I have paid attention to math in my life. You will pass the class for sure, and you will also learn if paying attention to the lecture. This is by far the best professor I have ever had. His teaching is outstanding and you have multiple tries for all assignments and tests (including midterms and finals). If you are stuck on something, he's often available to help you through difficult things. If you are going to take this class, this is the teacher to take it with.

What an amazing Professor! He explains concepts so well and is willing to answer questions and stay behind in case anyone needs help. Lots of homework, but it's not due until the end of the semester, 4 quizzes and the midterm and final, but nothing is protected, and everything has multiple attempts. He does not let you fall behind!
