She encourages participation but shoots people down on much of what they say. Occasionally she loves someone's comment but it isn't clear why. Her syllabus does not reflect the actual policies of the course. She doesn't answer emails, or if she does, it is too late to be helpful.
This teacher killed my love for Anthropology. She cannot be precise. She is contradictory. It takes her over a week to answer any questions you have and her answers are "See Syllabus" which changed five times this semester. She is the worst teacher I have EVER had. EVER. She should never have been allowed to teach.
Ms. Garcia is a hard teacher, but as long as you read the syllabus before asking course requirement questions, your question will probably be answered. I was very irritated the first 3 weeks of class, but now it's great. Ask questions regarding the text or lectures, show interest and get involved in the discussions and you'll do good.
I am taking this class as an eight week online course and it is difficult to keep up with the assignments. Also, she expects us to post on the discussion board three days before the post's due date in order to get full credit. The course is quite interesting however, and she is knowledgable and nice enough.
You people are just lazy! She is by far one of the most brilliant profs I've had here. Why are you all in college if you don't want to work. Too bad she's married...
i totally love her. she rocks and is way easy. you all are lazy ****es!
She is one of the most helpful professors you can ever have. People take Anthro thinking its an easy grade but she actually challenges her students and hopes they think for themselves while expecting work. Plus...she's a little package.
Hard teacher. Dosn't know what she is doing half the time. Hard essay tests. Does not tell you what to study. Skips chapters but puts them on the test. Repeats lectures. Boring class
Not responsive to student needs.
She changed the syllabus few times without telling you. Her test was hard, multiple choices & essays questions. It took her too long to response or none at all. The good thing is she made you write 5 essays and she counted them as extra credit without letting you know. Without those extra credits, I will earn a D in the class.
Took the 8 week online class and there was WAY too much work in that short of a time. DO NOT TAKE if you are taking more than 9 units because the work in this one class is equal to two normal classes.
You have to go to every class because you will get behind. Do the homework!!!!!! The tests are off of her lecture notes so take good notes. If you get behind, do the extra credit.!
NICE TEACHER HOWEVER TOTALLY UNPREPARED AND DISORGANIZED. TAKE ANY OTHER TEACHER FOR YOUR LAB CLASS!
Too much essays. Changed the syllabus a few times. No response to your e-mails.
Not the most logical teacher you will come across, and she is the Webster's definition of hypocritical. She likes to create an open forum environment, but then punish you for not agreeing with the vast majority. Open forums are for stating your opinion not the opinion of the masses you idiot.
The person posting recently from an anthro 13 class, that class was two semesters ago, if you didn't like Garcia point taken, move on. Yes she is hard, but if you put in the work, and participate without being rude, then it is easy. She really does prepare people for transfer into the University system. She is supportive and has a lot of experience
Her lectures are very interesting. She did change her syllabus without letting us know; I don't think she realized she had test material for diff't chapter(s) than she specified for us to read. Otherwise, I do find the class interesting. She doesn't post the grades right away. There is a lot of reading so be prepared. I took the class online.
Teacher was definantly disorganized and unclear what she wanted from the students. There were questions on the tests that were not even covered. Definatly recommend taking a different Anth. teacher. She is a nice lady however.
Professor Garcia is a very interesting person and great professor. She makes anthropology come alive. I highly recommend her!
Prof. Garcia is extremely unorganized. It seems like she decided to teach a summer class for fun and must be doing a million other things on the side. Besided typing boring lectures that jump from topic to topic, they don't always even make sense the way that she words them. Go for a different prof!!
This teacher is pretty lost in the sauce. She's extremely disorganized (She'll forget what assignments are due, expect assignments that were never assigned etc) Her tests have NOTHING to do with her lectures... fortunately I knew enough to get by and the final was pretty easy, so an A was fairly easily attainable, but trust me you'll be frusterated
She made a summer class fly by covering the necessary material quickly and letting us go as soon as she could. She also lectured to back up the labs which was incredibly helpful 'cause it was a new lab book. She would go out of her way to answer any ???s. If you thought she was unclear you should have asked. Do the work & get an A. It's that simple
Miss Garcia is a very dedicated proffesor. She understand her student and provide as much information as she can for a well understanding of the subject she teaches.
Internet course w/ an extremely convoluded system. No papers, but many VERY hard tests. Very strict w/ due dates, but seldom posts the assignments on time so we can start them! Answers emails eventually, but you're pretty much on your own. In class discussions, students would post incorrect answers & she would not correct them- even more confusing!
Prof. does not respond to emails, takes down assignments too early. Lack of focus in the class. Technical aspects of Blackboard appear to escape her. Discussion boards often unavailable, many technical issues. Please avoid online course at any cost.
Professor Garcia had good lectures and made me think on a different level. I took her online class and sometimes things were taken down randomnly but in the end she dropped your 3 lowest discussion board scores since Blackboard was upgrading at this time. Tests weren't too bad and I thought she was a decent teacher!
Don't take her! You will regret it. You never know whats on the test, she always cancels class and she never responds to your emails. I thought by taking her class that I would enjoy Anthropology, now I absolutely despise the subject. Sorry Renee if you read this but you need to work on some things.
great teacher. her fun personality and sense of humour made the class worthwhile.
Confusing teacher. Had extra credit assigned out of 30 points but would only give 25 points max. You pretty much have to read the whole sections for the tests, because she is unclear on what she wants you to study. Take someone else, there are a lot better Professors elsewhere. Cancels classes a lot, and doesn't make the subject interesting.
I love an enthusiastic teacher, it makes the class so much more fun. It's nice to see a teacher that loves her job and cares so much and believes so much in what she teaches, I honestly loved this class, it was amazing.
This was has been my absolute favorite class I've ever taken-ever! It covers everything and we (I would read aloud to my hubby, family and bff) learned so much...
I am a Christian and this broadened my understanding of what people believe and Mrs. Garcia was so good choosing her words I was never offended.
This professor is funny & nice, but she isn't organized at all. I never knew what was going on in class. this class only met once a week and 4 times she cancelled the class. she is very confusing and hard to keep up with. she is constantly changing the syllabus. if possible take anoth professor.
Prof Garcia was clear and direct about what she expected. If you studied, you did well and if you didn't you did poorly...she was easy to communicate with and always made the time for questions.
8 week online course= reccomended. Informative, current, interesting and worthwhile. Professor is respectful, communicates clearly and responds to emails in timely fashion
she was an amazing teacher! i wish i could take it again. she is funny and helpful. you will love her class if you pay attention.
She is a great professor.
she seems nice & is highly interested in her field but she is terribly disorganized. the syllabus has changed several times & her assigments are equally disorganized. guidlines for projects are lengthy & look more like 3-4 page essays rather than just listing the main points that she wants you to include.class would be worth it if it was organized
highly disorganized to the point where you don't even know where you stand in the class. you can try to e-mail her but she will never respond. avoid at all costs. take someone whose head isn't so "up in the clouds" and who can properly organize their class
Hmmm...the comment from the other Anth 9 person was probably because a paper was due and they didn't have it. although she clearly gave the due date in class. lots of enthusiam for the topic and takes time with us majors.
One of the most annoying teachers I've ever encountered at Saddleback. She expects everyone to be completely into the subject or an anthro major and doesn't realize that anthropology is also a gen ed class that anyone can take. She is so giddy sometimes, it makes me cringe. Take this class with someone else!
Boy that person should have dropped. som of us like to have a teacher who enjoys her job and the topic seems strange to blame someone else when you didn't have to be there. I think she is great and so do alot of people I know who have had her. Take her if you want quality.
i dunno what these people are talking about. she is neither a great professor nor a terrible one. she's just OKAY. its true it seems her class is centered more for anth majors & i know others who feel the same. seems like she wanted to teach at a 4 yr university but go stuck w/ saddleback. she needs to ease up a bit, other than that she's okay
Renee loves what she does, obviously. She knows exactly what she's talking about, doesn't read off the powerpoint, so it's important that you take note of what she's saying instead of what the notes say (they're online anyway). There are a couple papers. The class was pretty fun though.
Prof. Garcia is a wonderful instructor. The class is a bit disorganized, the essay instructions require some deciphering but she is extremely personable. She does treat the class as an Anthro major rather than a GE class, but clearly loves her work and it shows! If Archaeology is your interest, then she is the one to take!
She is way too smart for an introductory class - she needs to be teaching higher level students. She will help you if you ask and if you apply yourself. She is a hard grader, but probably fair from if you were at a university and not a community college. More than anything she is fair- just be prepared to work for your grade... what a concept.
Very smart - should be teaching at a 4 Year University not CC level. She expects you to read the material and study. She is on point with the material & really knows her stuff. She will answer any question if you ASK. Take this class if you want to learn and study for your grade, not skate by and be entitled to an A.
Amazing teacher! she is a very passionate teacher, that gives her all for the class. she is very smart and expects the best from her students. to get a good grade you have to read everyday and study the material.
An absolutely amazing teacher. If you are an anthropology major it is vital that you get to know this professor. She truly cares and offers so many amazing opportunities to her passionate students. I was able to do things that I never dreamed that I would do at a community college level.
Although she is wonderful as a person, she is extremely disorganized and unclear. She is constantly changing syllabus and lacks focus, and I don't know what she is doing and what is expected. I am confused and even angry. Don't take her class.
Good professor, very smart. Take her only if you actually want to learn something and enjoy smart people. Do the work, and you'll do fine.
Only take this class if u are REALLY interested in Anthropology. I took it to complete my ge and ended up studying really hard to get a decent grade in this class. Garcia is an alright professor, dose not respond to emails, grades easy, and lectures are some what entertaining. But if u have no interest in Anthro like me you'll have to work HARD!
NEVER ANSWERS EMAILS, so stupid especially when it's an online class! you would expect her to answer right away especially during a final but not even. she's not there for her students when it comes to concerns. how can an online teacher not check their email? it does not make any sense!
Although she is sometimes confusing (as she seems to confuse our class with other classes due to her overloaded schedule), she is really knowledgeable and passionate about her subject. Also, she has fine personality. She is extremely lenient about grading. I got an A even though I did not deserve it. If you have problem, ask her. She will sinc
not helpful at all! would always change weekly assignments at the last minute and not give us more time to complete it. never answers emails. just not a good class overall. pick another teacher if you want to take this subject and you want a good grade and you want someone whose clear and helpful!
I dont know how anyone could not like this class. I had her in the summer and she is very professional, cares about her class, and most of all makes the class interesting. The course structure is very simple, do your work and you will get a good grade. Take her class!!!
Very unorganized and sometimes forgets what she assigned. Overall, passionate about the subject and knows what she is doing. Tests are a piece of cake. If you are ever confused....talk to her!! She will go out of her way to help you. Do the work, go to class, stay on her good side and you will get an easy A. btw, she LOVESSS chocolate.
Ok do not listen to anyone who says she is unorganized. They are just saying that because they probably do not attend all the classes. She is very passionate about what she does and is really helpful if you ask questions. I think she is a great anthro teacher! I highly recommend this class!
Renee is a really cool teacher and I would take any class with her. She is at times confusing and disorganized but she takes criticism. She will fix her mistakes willingly. She is very approachable and communicative. She is fun and funny and she makes the subject interesting. Like with anything, you create your own experience.
I dont know what the person below me is talking about. she is not mean at all. she talks to students like they are smart human beings, not like infants. And as long as you can think for yourself your fine, she wont be rude at all. This class is easy if you do the work. A few essays and a presentation, thats it. take her classes. shes really smart!
the sweetest woman ever. she'll let you make up work you've missed and turn late work in if you just ask her. her lectures are interesting. adorable but very unorganized. i had no idea what was going on in class. didn't tell us when assignments were due or that we even had one and just expected us to know. tests had NOTHING to do with her lectures.
I'm graduating from Saddleback and transfering to UCLA with a major in Anthropology. She inspired me and got me interested in Anthropology.
I really enjoyed this class, much more than I had expected to. I took this online course as I needed to fufill my science requirment. I never knew that this course would be so interesting, and I have definately learned a lot. Also, she was a great teacher, with answering my emails quickly and giving me some great insight!
Professor garcia is very nice. she grades pretty hard on the essays and teaches her class more like a university not a junior college. she does let you turn in late essays and is flexible. she is very intelligent and very nice! takes a very long time to answer emails, if she does answer them at all.syllubus is always changing, overall good teacher.
really nice woman but she is extremely disorganized and boring. i dropped out of the class cuz i just couldn't stand it anymore. if you really are interested in archeology then take her, cuz she is a very intelligent woman and she knows her stuff, but watch out cuz she will put u to sleep!
This was a wonderful experience. The texts were so interesting, as well as the lectures and articles. And the discussion boards were lots of fun! I'm going to miss this class.
Renee makes a difficult subject very easy to understand, and she definitely knows all about what she's teaching. Really cool & nice person. The class was so interesting, I joined the Anthropology club! She pays attention to her students and took the time to learn all our names. Grades fairly, but don't expect an effortless "A".
Beware her introductory classes. She is mostly a research anthropologist with plenty of knowledge, but she is by far the most difficult professor in the department and teaches as if you already have an extensive understanding of the subject. If you already have a background in anthropology and it's your major, go ahead, but don't expect an A.
Renee is probably one of the best professors I have ever had at Saddleback. She is always so helpful and nice. Word of advice: If peoeple are saying she is not organized that is because they don't go to class or the slack off. I totally recomend her for anyone even if your not an Anthro major :)
She is sooo nice! The class requires a little more work than you would think for a 1 unit but she really wants everyone to pass. She basically gives all the questions before the test and allows extra credit. Great teacher and so pretty!
Renee doesn't respond to e-mails and she is very unclear when assignments are due. I e-mailed her about 5 times and she never responded. What a waste!
She barely uses her textbooks. For ANTH 9, she assigns a midterm, final, and a six pg. paper which she treats like a Master's thesis. Details are very important to her. Though, I left the class feeling as if I hadn't learned anything new.
Summer online class is very disorganized and confusing. I check school email every 6 hrs and log onto BB everyday to look for that week's work. Sometimes they're there, sometimes not. So I end up spending a lot more time looking for things instead of studying! She also doesn't reply my emails nor my classmates'. I wish I took the on campus class.
Took 8 week online class. Hard grader. Doesn't respond to emails. Assignments are fair considering its such a short session. Doesn't post things when she says she will. DB every week, articles, chapter reading, quizzes. Midterm was 25 questions. Lets you retake quizzes 3 times which is awesome. Ok class overall.
I loved this class. You do work a lot for one credit, but overall i did leave the class knowing things that i did not know prior to attending her class. Would take another class of hers if i had too. She even had a pot luck for extra credit, yummy ;)Melissa
I strongly recommend taking the campus class vs the online class. I did much better on campus then online and learned a lot more. I don't feel my grade was justified and I did very well on my tests and completed all my assignments but ended up with a D, I was actually expecting an A or B and was very disappointed and confused with my grade.
I really enjoyed this class. Great for fulfulling science w/lab requirements. Not an easy A, but if you do the reading and attend class, you will do fine. Helpful and passionate about subject. Reviews for tests.
She can be a bit unorganized but if you are unclear on something just ask her. She is super nice, and wants you to do well. The quizzes are open book. You MUST do the reading, take notes on her lectures, and attend.
This lady is the worst teacher I've ever had. I took her Anthro class online and I worked my butt off and got a D. I don't see how anyone could possibly Ace this class. She never answers e-mails and she is so full of herself that all she wants you to write your discussion boards on are her lectures. Avoid her at all costs!
If you're thinking about doing the online class, I suggest you steer clear. You need to have an in-depth knowledge of every concept, as you never know what will be on the quizzes and exams. The book will be your main resource. She either didn't respond to my emails, or she told me to go read the syllabus or the class orientation.
Fantastic professor! She's super enthusiastic about her field and is always willing to answer questions. She is not an easy grader; she expects students to actually learn the material in order to do well. It is a college class, after all.
Not that clear on assignments, changes due dates frequently. Basically you have to read every detail in the book, literally everything. Gave us a project on extremely short notice that was due within a week when other professors gave at least a few weeks to do the same projects.
ONLINE. I hardly read the material, but I got an A. If you do the work, you'll do great. You're allowed three attempts at each quiz, and the questions don't change. Her midterm and final were hard, but if you study it, you'll do fine.
I took an online anthropology class and I enjoyed it greatly, I enjoyed the book and the lectures very much. She helped alot.
This is the professor who launched my schooling from basic community college to one of the best colleges in the nation. Renee Garcia is a beautiful and fantastic teacher, all her classes are more than recommended!
If you follow the rules (read the directions carefully) then you'll do fine. She goes in waves of ultra-helpful to completely absent and is really disorganized half the time, but she has her good moments too.
Its too much work for a 3 unit class. You have to read 2 ch a week, take 2 quizzes, write 1 main discussion board post, and reply to 3 other posts. Also, deadlines are not very clear. I thought discussions were due on Sundays, (thats what it said in the rubric) then she emailed us two weeks in that they are due Wednesdays, and i lost a lost points.
She is, by far, my favorite teacher I've ever had. People can say she is disorganized, but I think she is just so brilliant that she gets jumbled in her own thoughts. She isn't easy, but she really cares about students' success. You're lucky if you get to have her as a teacher.
Renee is adorable! She is an amazing anthropology teacher, if anthro is your major, i really recommend taking her. If not, and you are just looking for an easy A, dont take her class. She expects you to work like a college student, no slacking off aloud in her class. She is great, i would recommend her to anyone that wants to learn amazing things
As an Anth major I waas completly disappointed in Renee's lack of professionalism, and biases.
Disorganized, and while this is a forensics class, it should simply be listed as an Osteology class or glorified Anatomy. But she says she "doesn't like the gross wet stuff", which if you're interested in forensic pathology you do need to be familiar with. Modesty would do her some good, as she frequently states how wonderful she thinks she is.
Seems like a smart person. She had very little communication with the class. She takes forever to grade. My midterm wasn't graded until after the class was over. Her due dates are unclear. Thought posts were due on Sunday but one week before the class ended she said only four people were posting correctly. If you're not into anthro dont take her
Great class. Teacher provides a lot of information that we ahve more than week to go over. The rubrics she provides are really helpful. For the people that say its disorganized they dont bother to open up all the information sdhe gives. Great class.
Just finished the online class. I enjoyed it. She includes tabs that have really good information about organizing your work week, how she grades discussion boards and like the other person said she gives you more than a week to do the work. I learned something and liked it even though I wasn't intersted at firsrt.
Online class like another person who posted. I liked her class. A lot more opportunity for discussions, which I like. Class was 8 weeks and because of the schedule other people mentioned i got through it fine. She sometimes takes a while to answer, if at all but if it's urgent she is on it.
Slow to grade and reply. The software was $$ and it was nothing more than a glorified version of google. Renee was barely present. Clueless/slacker students rewarded them with extensions when someone threw a fit. Its an easy class but should be closed to those who have no clue about evolution and so on. If your serious take this class elsewhere.
I have taken both cultural and biological anthropology from this instructor online. I have taken about every online course available at Saddleback. If you are interested in this subject than take it, because her lectures are fantastic. I loved this class so much, but I also thoroughly enjoy learning about this subject. Hard to get ahold of.
extremely disorganized. answers to online quizzes were contradictory to what the book said. expensive online textbook absolutely useless. laziness rewarded. guidelines on projects EXTREMELY unclear. grading inconsistent. project grades are a gamble. only take this class if you just need a filler and don't need to actually learn or do well.
Forensic Athro. Horrible teacher. Talks all class about things related, but nothing that you should bother with to pass the class. She clearly is interested and very good at her subject, but she should not be a teacher. If you take her be prepared to show up to class, but do all the hard work and studying at home, with no help from Renee. AVOID!
Online class wasn't easy and I go to a UC. Probably explains why it was literally the last open spot for any online class this summer. Emailed about 5 or 6 times and only got 1 response. Tests are pretty hard. No study guide for final, just MT. Topics are not interesting at all. Don't take if you don't need to.
I would like to see her teaching credentials! You are expected to have taught yourself by the time you get to class. Books only, no lectures or teaching. Says she reads emails, but doesn't reply EVER. Threw in 3 extra books on 1st day. 90% of grade is in-class discussion, so if you are shy, you can just go ahead and change your major right now.
Lectures incomprehensible & confusing. Book as well. Taught myself the gist from the internet. Seems to enjoy bogging you down with big words, telling you to study chapters and then quizzing you on a completely different chapter. Study guides are vague and don't apply to the actual exam. Doesn't respond well to emails. Isn't involved.
Very interesting class and teacher. She provides many interesting articles and sources of reading material to complement the textbook. I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She doesn't grade tough or easy, but is very fair and will help you if you need anything. She was more than willing to help me out with personal issues as well as blackboard issues.
I really enjoyed being in this class and there was always great input with an amazing learning experience.
Took this class online as i have for many other classes. I was confused about assignments and what was required. I attempted to communicate with the teacher multiple times and never heard back. Other students in my class were also not able to get ahold of her. Worst online class ever.
THis online class was the best I've taken at Saddleback. Schedule was clear and discussions were really interesting. The poor ratings here are probebly from people who didnt get a good grade, usually works that way right?
Just saw this rate for my prof no one is she a poor teacher. Very helpful meets with students about college in general to help out. Bad grades are on you, do the work youwont fail simple.
Great teacher really helpful and generous with her time. Poor quality rates are students fault. Too bad she's good.
Professor Garcia is interesting and creative. She has a vast array of knowledge that she will gladly share, and wants her students to succeed. Her classes require critical thinking which will prepare students for further education and other aspects of life. With that said, she expects students to work hard.
She is a great teacher. She will help you understand the topic if you have problems. Also the hard is hard on its own its not her fault but my anthropology 1L I didn't have to take the final and neither did 70% of my class
She is an amazing professor, willing and eager to help you. and if you show true interest she will help you how ever she can.
Take notes on what she says she always posts her power points to blackboard. lots of EC opportunists. Very nice and helpful if you pay attention. very strict don't be late on test days otherwise doesn't care if you are in class. Homework is easy just a bit time consuming
It was a good class but the professor made a mistake in my final grade...we communicated about it via email and she agreed that she had made a mathematical error and promised to change my grade but never did, leaving me with a C on my transcript instead of the B that I earned :(
This teacher is very passionate about the field she teaches in, I took her for forensic. She is also very caring and will help you if she sees that you are serious. She is very strict and unorganized however. She is always changing and fixing the syllabus. I recommend taking her only if your majoring in anthro. If your not you can get lost inclass.
I enjoyed this class immensely! The amount of interaction and intelligence of the online community was superb! Such a great class!
Nice teacher, willing to help you if you don't understand. Holds interest in what she teaches, but doesn't teach very well when lecturing but thats why you ask questions. She will try her best to help you pass.
She's caring about her students. She gives you study guides that make the tests really easy, even though they're mostly essay. Lecture is pretty confusing, however. She can be contradictory. I took an 8 week class; we basically ran out of material towards the end and I got an A.
I loved this class because I learnt so much and her lectures are very interesting. However, she can be very contradictory as her instructions are strict, but not always clear. She did not give any feedback and did not seem to me much involved in the class. Accelerated 8 week online class was a lot of work.
If you do the work, it is very easy. She is an excellent teacher but a bit disorganized. Cancels class and then jams lessons together. But if you have a high grade at the end you dont have to take the final!
Prof. Garcia is one of the best teachers you will encounter. Interesting but face paced curriculum. Helpful, responds quickly to questions. Expect to study for exams, online written lectures and the textbook used weekly. Not a super-easy course, but interesting. Keep up, take advantage of the extra credit & you'll do fine.
I loved this professor. Show interest in the class, cause she likes when you are interested and ask questions. I found the class quite interesting and actually learned a lot. I also failed this class twice before because I didn't got to class hardly ever, so make sure you go to classes:)
This professor was completely unorganized and unprofessional. She had unreasonable expectations of due dates for assignments when the material wasn't even available to study online! When the class emailed her repeatedly, she finally emailed back to everyone in a hostile tone. I dropped her class immediately realizing her attitude was horrible.
If you value your GRADE, do not take this class! She is very unorganized & unresponsive. Emailed her 7 times, no response at all. In an online class, communication is CRUCIAL, yet there was none. She even uploaded the wrong test for the class to take. All students wasted 1 hour and 30 minutes only to have the grade deleted a week afterwards.
Garcia is awesome & the printable lectures are the best! Funny, nice, clear, responsive, helpful & NEVER surprises you on tests. Best professor I've had. Do your work, read the book & come to class prepared & this class is an easy A! Get to know her she's super cool and ask questions if you don't understand something she's only there to help you!
Renee was an amazing teacher, she was a little disorganized. But she made up for that by telling you exactly what was on the test and having really interesting lectures. She really wants her students to succeed and will help you do just that. if you have a chance to take her, take her.
Renee was very kind, and engaged towards her students in class, but some times it would be hard to get a hold of her through email. It's too bad that the class I had with her was hybrid. She offered good insight, but was hard to keep up w in class as her syllabus was poorly organized. I didn't learn much from the class except a few simple concepts
Professor Garcia was an inspiration to me! I changed my academic focus after taking her Biological Anthropology course. Most online Professors do not provide lectures, but Professor Garcia provided a detailed lecture every week that I relied on heavily. She made sure her students really understood the material and responded to my emails right away
Just take someone else
Took the online anthropology class. Tests were very difficult and she was sometimes unpleasant. Material also a lot to digest. Redeeming quality: I received an A when I think I deserved a low B. I showed her I cared about my grade and I think she helped me out.
Do not take her. I only took it online, so I can't speak for physical class, but I would imagine it wouldn't be much different. Lectures are all over the place: horrid grammar, incoherent sentences, and the wrong facts. Does not respond to some emails. The quizzes were on material that hadn't been covered yet. Do not take her especially online
When she actually held class, it was hard to follow. Not sure what was going on in her personally life but she skipped more than half the semester. When we had class, she would continue to teach like we hadn't missed anything. I got an A because I talked to her all the time. Not because I was the best student.
I couldn't believe this professor. I read her lectures over and over again and barely got more than 2 questions for the quiz from those notes, google did the rest. Her notes had positively horrid grammar. I know she's not an english teacher, but I'm expecting more than abbreviations when I'm trying to learn this stuff. I didn't learn a thing.
Lectures had terrible grammar to the point it was difficult to understand what she was trying to say. Tests had almost nothing to do with chapters from the book or the lecture. Googled most of it. Ended up only reading her lectures and gave up on the book. One of the worst teachers I've had.
Renee Garcia helped me get to a 4 year University and perform well, finishing my college life with a 3.8 GPA. Material covered in Anthropology by Renee was very useful for my future travels and studies with UCSD. I received my degree in Sociocultural Anthropology with a Mesoamerican Archaeology kick. My experience was incredible.
Lectures had terrible grammar to the point it was difficult to understand what she was trying to say. Tests had almost nothing to do with chapters from the book or the lecture. Googled most of it. Ended up only reading her lectures and gave up on the book. One of the worst teachers I've had and I stress teacher, not professor.
You know those teachers where you ask yourself "How is this person teaching at the collegiante level." Well you'll be asking yourself that question in this class. She is VERY unorganized & her lectures are litterally just her reading bullet points of horrible grammar that make no sense & directly contradict the readings she assigns. Don't take her.
This was the worst class I've ever taken. There were no clear instructions provided, ever. She's very slow to respond to emails. She mixed me up with other students on more than one occasion and had no record of submitted assignments. I had to contest my final grade with her at the end, and she gave me the A I deserved but I had to fight for it.
This was honestly the most difficult and unorganised class I have ever taken. Do not expect quick replies on emails, get ready to fight for your grade, and additionally, be aware that NOTHING is organized so each assignment you "turn in" is somewhat of a mystery. Found myself questioning her credentials all semester- sweet person but bad professor.
Worst experience I could imagine taking two of her classes online. These classes are not particularly hard, and are both interesting subjects, but her inability to be organized or professional hardly made them tolerable. Did not post the week's work until multiple emails later, and also posted a midterm on a Saturday and made it due the next day.
If you are in Saddleback Honors, do not take this class as your easy class to stay in the Honors Program. It is not easy. She is the worst professor I have ever had. I'm doing well in the class, so I am not a disgruntled student. I'm being honest. She sucks. My Honors class had 10 people in it and she did not know who I was.
Garcia is the sweetest teacher ever! I took her for ANTH1 and ANTH1 Lab. She prepares you well for all the tests and has lots of extra credit for both the class and lab! Take her!!!
Though her grammar is tough to understand at times, she does care about her students. I got an A when I feel like I deserved maybe a C at best - I think it's because I was proactive and tried my hardest, and she saw that. Put forth the effort and she will do the same for you. Only take this class if you're motivated.
First day of class, she just kept talking about herself, and same with other classes. She would tell you to print out notes, and she would tell you to take notes on what she says and not what she put in her powerpoint, but then read from the same powerpoint and not go into any real detail.
It wasn't that bad. Took Anth1 online over the summer and got an A. If you are having trouble just look at her previous lectures and the textbook-they provide ample information. Great teacher, and gives pretty good feedback on discussion posts. She has a problem with grammar which is obvious in her notes but other than that she is a great teacher.
She is a great teacher. Very helpful
Wonderful ! Gives amazing lectures . She is the chair of the department and knows her subject . Gives study guide for all exams . If you want to learn take her class!
Mrs. Garcia is a the perfect example of a college teacher. She is so understanding that your life doesn't revolve her class. You turn everything in online and at the end of the semester she allows you to go back and fix what you missed to make up the points. Great teacher!!
This class was entirely online, but Professor Garcia was responsive to emails and offered plenty of extra credit assignments, including the ability to screen cap your class MAP (easy points). I was kind of nonplussed about some of the grades I got, but I didn't try SUPER hard, if I was on time with my discussions, I'm sure I could have aced it.
She gives a lot of extra credit if your test grades are low.
Lectures read like she's talking. Good discussions, especially racism based on current news. Gives good feed back and answers emails pretty fast.
Renee was one of the best online professors I've ever had. Very clear about what she wants and how she grades, it is very important to follow the syllabus verbatim to get an A. Put forth your best effort in your discussions and actually learn something from your classmates - I know I did. :) I highly recommend her if your work ethic is strong.
There is a lot of information to learn. Exams are hard but clearly worded. The professor is caring, willing to help student to understand text and lecture, assessable through email.
Took this class because I needed a boost to my GPA. Helped alot. Outdoors digging in the dirt was not as fun as the beach, but it was fun. Met some nice people.
Profs. Garcia's lectures were extremely helpful when studying for exams and working on h.w.
Great teacher, Garcia was very good.
Mrs. Garcia is very knowledgeable way to talk to
Took this field assignment seemed interesting and it was. The digging was fun and interesting. She is very sweet, kind, and knowledgeable. She can identify a bone like no bodies business. Was awesome. Easy A. met some great, and smart people.
Amazing professor. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. Class is mostly her lecturing with ppt and some video. She even posts the ppts on blackboard before the class so you know what to expect. She offers a lot of extra credit. Easily my favorite professor and most interesting class.
Took this class online recently. I learned a lot from her ppts. She gives lots of extra credit but your need to do the assignments. Ms. Garcia also meets people outside of office hours. I saw her a few times and she was helpful each time.
Like other students said she is very good at her teaching and ppts are good. A midterm, discussions, easy quizzes and a final. A lost of extra credit if you dont do well on tests. She is reasonable, health issues and I was able to redo quizzes. Willing to help.
She's good but all of her lecture notes are in crazy fonts (think papyrus and log cabin) and that was distracting to me. Also full of typos. That aside, she is passionate and great at what she does. Difficult at times due to bio terminology you WILL BE TESTED ON, so don't think this is just a regular anthro class. :)
She's such an amazing professor who loves to teach anthropology, wants you to succeed!
Archaeological Field Studies provided students the opportunity to practice actual archaeology, by digging up Sikes Adobe and cataloging items found on site (such as ceramic, porcelain, glass shards, animal bones). Accompanied by another professor, Garcia explained to use the process of careful excavation. All in all, Garcia is amazing! So sign up!
Had some family problems. Talk to her and she was helpful. Wouldnt have passed wihtout her help. That means a lot.
Professor Garcia let me mak up work when I got behind. Just went to her office hours to talk and that made a difference.
This Professor is a mess! The due dates are all over the place and sometimes incorrect. I dont recommend taking this class with this professor at ALL.
I would not recommend this professor. The lectures each week were exceedingly vague and had little to do with the quiz and exam answers. She graded very harshly and when I asked for help she was condescending and unhelpful. I put a lot of time and effort into her class and it did not pay off. It is my opinion that she does not teach, she grades.
I think I was in the class the other bad reviewers were in and there were some losers in there that dropped. The class is still going on good. She says she gets people that drop cause they cant keep up. Oh well. Im doing good. She is super helpful.
Taking her online class now. Lectures are easy reads and discussions not to bad. She is understanding if you have a problem and answers emails within a few hours. That realy helped me.
Overall was an easy class. Do not read the text book, unless you want to, but otherwise just focus on reading the main points as these points and its derivatives will be discussed in class and most likely be put on tests, so be ready to take notes. Was a fun class but some classes aren't that mandatory unless its a test study day but do your work.
I would highly recommend her. She gives tons of extra credit, her lectures are very interesting, and she cares about her students. Quizzes are do every week and homework is do online. If you are disciplined this class will be easy to pass. She also accepts late work and there's no need for textbook use.
The most unorganized online professor I have ever had. I was constantly emailing her to post the assignments, or to update the reading requirements. I put in as much effort as I possibly could to do well, no matter what I did I was not receiving the grades I wanted/deserved for my efforts. Offers extra credit but reluctant to actually give it out.
Garcia is very sweet and has a great sense of humor. BUT, she is super unorganized. When she would go over her power point slides, you could tell that she could hardly even understand her own material due the fact that it was so vague and poorly written. Not terribly difficult though, & interesting material. She's passionate about anth. as well!
Very good class. Professor Garcia is one of the kindest and genuinely amazing professors Ive ever had. She makes so much of an effort to work with you and offers so many extra credit opportunities too. Youll learn a lot. She has a great sense of humor. Its a very doable class.
HORRIBLE. Would NOT recommend taking her. Extremely unorganized and confusing. She doesn't give out study guides for exams and doesn't show up to class or send out emails letting you know that class is canceled.
Professor Garcia was a long-term substitute for my class, so I had no choice but to take her. She's unorganized, randomly doesn't show up to class, changes the syllabus on a weekly basis, and changes her mind often. She cancels all test reviews and wouldn't tell us what's on exams. If you call her out, she denies it. Save yourself the frustration.
Take her class! Its a lot of work, but its worth it, and theres an opportunity to redo everything for full credit! She cares a lot- do the work, and care about it- shell notice! Shes super intelligent, caring, and funny.
Very unorganized.
I've had Garcia twice now, once as a substitute, and honestly I loved her class. Both subjects were not something I enjoyed a lot, but because of her I was able to understand the material and do well. People say she's unorganized, but if you pay attention to her lectures and office hours and to what's on the syllabus, you'll be fine. 10/10.
I honestly could not have picked a better professor to motivate me after coming back to school in 5 years. She is a super understanding and helpful professor. Keep in mind communication is key. Assignments are not hard at all and exams always have an easy study guid to follow. I would for sure take another class with her if I could.
Professor Garcia was a long-term substitute for my original professor who left in the middle of the semester, and I must say she handled the sudden responsibility quite well. She missed a few classes, but was sure to adjust the class accordingly, cancelling one of the exams. Do the labs, make up the ones you missed points on, and its an easy A!
Her class was very simple and straight forward as got an A and she did her best to provide each class with a clear grading criteria as she had a lot on her plate. Her tests were very easy as the test study guides were solid and had everything you needed to know for the test. The people/person undeservingly rating her with a 1 are way out of line.
Professor Garcia chose to inspire those who are willing to learn about her course. The work-level was like any other college class that requires real work. If you are clearly present to learn and care about your studies, Professor Garcia will see your true grit and passion. She is kind, caring and passionate!! Thank you for an amazing class!!
Very easy and straightforward class. The labs are a lot of work but if you keep up with them you should have no problem getting an A. Professor Garcia will always work with you, dont be lazy and youll be fine.
The best teacher i've had BY FAR. Ill admit i'm a VERY lazy student, and I even got an A. For exams she would say EXACTLY what she was looking for and everything she said was on tests. If you were struggling she would offer help and extra credit to get you back on track. Gives a decent amount of hw but if you stay on it you're good
Passionate Anthro teacher. All of the homework/quizzes are online on Blackboard. Only a handful of tests but fair and thorough review given beforehand. Lots of chance for extra credit. I sat on my phone 75% of the semester and passed with an 'A'. I'd say buying the book is optional depending on how you learn; you can study off of her PowerPoints.
great experience since it was a class i HAD to take. She's super understanding and helps you with any questions. The homework load is a lot but manageable & even if u get lost in lectures she goes in great detail what to expect on the exams. The book isn't that important but definitely read her power points. I would absolute recommend to take it!
I hope Billy Pilgrim from Slaughterhouse 5 had taken this class.
Professor Garcia is the BEST professor that I ever had. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot from her. There are so many extra credit opportunities and she is always there for help. The syllabus is straight forward and if you miss an assignment she is always understanding and helpful. I will definitely take her class AGAIN.
Probably my favorite professor at Saddleback. Gives you so many chances to make up your grades and gives out lots of extra credit. Her course is extremely easy if you are willing to put in effort. She also knows if you are trying and she will give you extra points for trying. Highly recommend Professor Garcia if you're taking anthropology 1.
I really enjoyed this course. If you are diligent about the discussion posts, keeping up with simple readings/lectures and improve your posts based on the individualized professor feedback that she provides, you will do well. The professor is easy to access with questions and concerns and offers extra credit for those that struggle with testing.
does 5 min write ups , which is writing AT LEAST 2 paragraphs on stuff she has not even lectured yet. She expects you to go and read the lecture and the next day be an expert and write all this stuff about it. Its absoluely insane to write 2 paragraphs in 5 min, 15 points each. They are a huge part of your grade which is absolutely ridiculous.
I took Professor Garcia's lab class in the fall semester of 2018. The first class she explains clearly what the expectations of the class are and everything is available on canvas. She gives a small lecture then we can work in groups on the lab. What is learned in the lab is similar to the actual ANTH1 class. Prof. Garcia is hilarious and so caring
There are so many people that complain about her, but those people are the ones that are not trying in class. She offers countless opportunities for extra credit. Many complain about her 5 minute write ups, but they are not bad at all. As long as you put effort in and prepare you will do good. She also lets you redo the write ups for full credit
MY FAVORITE TEACHER! She is so nice and truly cares about her students. She is an easy A! Would HIGHLY recommend taking her class. Do the labs and you will get an A.
One of my favorite professors at Saddleback. She truly cares about her students and wants them to pass. As long as you try and put effort into the work, you will pass the class. Prepare for write-ups and do the extra credit!! I loved this class and I respect teachers like Garcia that help students by offering extra credit and make-ups!
Professor Garcia is definitely one of the best teachers I have had at Saddleback! Her class was once a week and I always looked forward to going. She is very entertaining and her lectures are never boring. She's very passionate about the subject so when she teaches it is very captivating. The assignments are easy and she gives lot of extra credit!
Professor Garcia is fair, organized, and straightforward. I took her ANTH9 online class, and I had a great first experience with an online course. She's passionate about teaching and shares interesting articles and information. Her PowerPoint lectures on Canvas are a little scarce, but it hardly detracted from my enjoyment of the class.
At first i was a little worried for this class as for the due dates were all mixed up and fixed last minute. However, as the class continued Professor Garcia only got better. she is very caring and kind and helps you when you need it. If you do all the assignments on time you will receive a good grade. It was a good class, I enjoyed it.
Took the 8-week course with professor Garcia. Your grade is determined by multiple choice tests. You can take the tests an unlimited number of times and are graded at the end of the week, only your highest score is counted. So, take the class, get the easy A. Solid choice for your GE requirements. Plus she's cool and wants you to do well in life.
This class was a disappointing followup to other online classes I've taken. This professor's lecture slides are frustrating, rife with spelling and grammar errors. The actual work is easy - read and do your discussions - but she makes it difficult with vague, uninspired discussion prompts. Also gives none to minimal feedback on assignments.
Posting in discussion board can be tricky, be careful not to state your opinion! He would rather want you to write what you have learned, so I just pretty much rephrase his lectures and textbook to answer the discussion board. His quizzes and exams are easy, everything is found at quizlet! He grades slow, so expect he would grade u after 2 weeks!
Only good thing was there were a lot of extra credit opportunities. Her lecture ppts were not useful at all. They did not help with tests or quizzes. Tests and quizzes were insanely difficult to find the answer. I read the book and still had a hard time. Discussion topics are vague. Overall, don't take this class.
Prof Garcia is a good professor. I take her online Archaeological Anthropology course. This class had a lot of work because it was an 8 work course, so there it is very discussion post and quiz heavy, and a lot of reading. But if you put in a big effort she offers extra credit. I would recommend if you have a good work ethic.
Great intro to Archaeology course! Professor Garcia provides many resources for students to be successful. Offers office hours even for her online only class which is nice. Not too demanding on study/hw time. Some of the questions in the exam were tricky. Discussion posts required weekly. Light on homework. Take this class!
Took her online Cultural Anthropology class. Easy A, just do the work. Consists of a discussion every week, which you just have to skim the provided text to do, weekly quizzes (all on quizlet) and a midterm and final (also on quizlet). Only thing to be cautious of is that she does not respond to emails. I emailed her 4 times and never got a reply.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. I took as an 8 week online and she never fully responded to my emails and would take days to respond. Also grading criteria is unclear and overall just not a good professor. takes off points for sumbitting discussion on day its due. only one extra credit discussion, ridiculous. please take someone else if they are available
Does not respond to emails, lecture slides are full of grammar and spelling errors, and lectures often do not have anything to do with quizzes or tests. Avoid this prof if you can. The only good thing I can say is that there is extra credit offered.
She's inconsistent with her syllabus and lecture slides have many grammar errors. Points for discussion board assignments are unfairly deducted if you submit them all on the same day regardless of how early they are turned in. If you miss any assignment, you are disqualified from any extra credit. She's also extremely slow to respond to emails.
There was some interesting information that I took from this class but the powerpoints did not help and the due dates for every assignment were confusing. The course consisted of two tests and a paper as well as weekly discussions. It was also very difficult to get in contact via email with the professor as she often wouldn't respond.
Writes her own lectures. The lectures are filled with misspelled words, made up terms and incomplete sentences that don't even make sense most of the time. On top of this, she requires you to completely agree with everything she says in discussions. Your grade reflects whether you agree with her or if you think for yourself. Very sassy in emails.
Being a teacher doesnt require much. Makes grammatical errors that I havent made since I was in the 1st grade, alongside COUNTLESS spelling errors and typos. A solid 75% of the links she posts to use for assignments lead to a 404 message. Her feedback feels like shes personally targeting your opinions as opposed to the quality of your work.
Professor Garcia is a great professor. Lectures are helpful, class consists of quizzes, 3 exams, one project, and discussions. Emails vary in response time, just follow up! Quizzes are difficult but you get multiple tries. If you talk to her and actually ask for help she gives great feedback!
Do not take this lab unless you want to do over 10 written question quizzes a week. Its worth 1 credit, but its outrageous how much she makes you doo. Albeit she is a lenient grader and she reopened every quiz that you might have missed. But the workload was way too much
Avoid. If taken online, lectures have no context and definitely meant to be lectured over in a class setting. The Syllabus is inconsistent. She takes forever to grade anything. She says the book is optional but requires It for discussions. Discussion questions are vague and make no sense. The one good thing is shes very very generous with EC.
Try someone else. You can get the grade you want but it requires to much work compared to other classes. Not worth it IMO. Plus she takes forever to grade.
Okay so, she does not know how to take someone else's opinion. I mean, didn't the syllabus say to respect someone else's opinion or she has the right to drop them? Well, maybe she should be the one to leave because she can't follow her own rules. Take a more respectful teacher (:
After reading the modules and provided articles, and answering the questions, she asked me to "refer to the lecture and articles" and re-write my answers, without providing any context or why I need to re-write it. I think her instructions are way too complicated and hard to follow.
makes you write really long discussion posts, might as well call them essays haha. Multiple discussions per week. Timed quizzes. Exams and projects. Disrespectful to individual's opinions. Chillllllll professor garcia.
Disrespectful. Only believes her opinion on evolution is right. If your discussion post doesn't match her opinions, she makes you rewrite. Am I supposed to be reading her brain??
Too many grammatical errors to the point it was hard to communicate with her or understand what she is expecting of us.
She made most of us redo our posts but did not provide feedback, all she said was: "refer to my lecture." Doing everything twice for the whole semester was not cool.
The professor is not considerate or caring. The work is unnecessarily hard. There is a lot of writing to do. No, I would not take her again and if I could go back I'd definitely take someone else or even take it the following semester.
Just finished her online summer class and even though I ended with an A, I would not recommend this professor. She grades discussion posts and responses really thoroughly, and expects you to always use terms from her lectures or shell blame you for cheating. Read the lectures and write thorough posts on time, and youll do well.
She is the worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't care about her students and takes forever to grade assignments. Her prompts for essays sound like a kindergarten student wrote them. She should be fired.
This professor can't even spell words correctly on quizes and takes forever to grade assignments. She clearly has to much on her plate and can't handle it all. Worst professor I have ever had. Do not pick her.
Zero structure. Terrible. Her powerpoint slides cover like 5% of what she quizzes you on. It turns out the other 95% comes from the free ebook she provided 2 months into the semester for "extra help". She doesn't tell you what to read, look on your own. Short answer questions are vague, grading takes weeks, quizzes have multitudes of answer errors.
Very comprehensive class, mediocre teacher. Heavily unclear due dates and grading criteria, does not make things easy to understand. Will send nonsensical emails about assignments that don't exist. Overall confusing, I wouldn't recommend.
I took the online class during COVID. Dr. Garcia's class had good lectures and were easy to read. She provides like 40 points extra credit and gives you time to make up assignments if you had low grades or missed work. That helped a lot as some family got sick and I had to take time off to help. She let me make up work.
I took the online class with professor garcia. more reading but interesting stuff. Discussion assignments are pretty good to. You have to think about the answer not multiple choice so you have to read the lecture and articles. Her lectures are funny and when you meet her in zoom she is relaxed and funny.
We're online but she has office hours twice a week which she cancels once a week. Stopped providing lecture notes halfways in & lazily provides 1 min youtube videos. Can't be bothered to assign the textbook chapter she clearly expects you to read. The modules are predone for the semester but poorly. A teacher shouldn't make easy material difficult
Horrible professor and human being. Confusing and unorganized. Has the audacity to dock points for "forgetting" minor details even though her lectures are useless. Randomly requires us to show up for these awkward zoom "meetings" where no one does anything. Out of touch, boring, and petty. Made me cry in office hours. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Im taking honors anth now. To the person crying during zoom. Do the work. It is not hard. Her lectures are pretty clear and she quizzes and tests from these. Not a lot of reading but interesting. You have to do a poster but it is your choice and I like that I can use it for other honors conferences.
Much like all of us, Professor Garcia is learning how to navigate online courses, while there were slight bumps along the way, Garcia always communicated what was expected, was quick to respond to emails, opened office hours, and genuinely cared about each of her students and their success. She also offered second chances and extra credit.
Im taking the lab online. I had some family stuff and missed a lot of assignments. I talked to Garcia showed her some proof (she asks for that) and she let me redo all of them. Saved my gpa. A lot of busy work but hey that's all labs.
I read the review about the lab. Im taking the lab and I can say its not bad. Lots of busy work but solid lectures all the way thru. and she is really helpful. There is no book to pay for and the answers are all there. So what are people crying about. Do the work.
I wrote a bad review about this professor and instantly regretted it. She's a real sweetheart, and all of my experiences with her have been positive. Professional, knowledgeable, and makes up for any errors in her notes/lectures. Took her honors and lab courses together. A great choice for anthro, no matter what your major is!!
Not going to lie this class was tough. However, just like everyone else, Professor Garcia is learning how to navigate an online environment. She provided three days of office hours and if you went to them she answered your questions and could help you understand an assignment way better. Many ups and downs in the class but she's a great Professor.
crazy people say horrible person for an online class. She was really understanding. More than most professors. She extended work and gave make up opportunities to. Seriously do the work.
I took the 8 week online class and it went well. I don't know about the organization issue cause things went well. Looking to take the lab with her in these fall. Dont believe everything you read.
I just got an A in her class. It was what is supposed to be a college class. All these bad posts complain about work load but it is what it is should be. Why you mad? You got a good grade and complain how hard it was. Damn. Grow up. She helped me get that A. That is what counts.
After reading the bad messages it makes no sense because she allows open notes for quizzes and exams and lots of extra credit. Are these people not reading her messages. Just do the work.
Professor Garcia is an amazing person who is very accessible outside of class. She provides numerous extra credit opportunities and clearly outlines what she wants out of her students. As long as you stay on task and carefully follow directions, you will succeed.
Profesor Garcia saved me. This was the hardest semester ever. Family, work COVID I couldn't keep up. I met on zoom and she asked me how she could help. That's what she did she helped. I was able to pass with a B. She made a big difference. People should know that there are teachers that care and want to help.
Show up. Do the work. The class is not easy but it was good and she was there for students. Im looking forward to the lab.
I feel like i got lucky with this class. Low work load. 2 chance per quiz with no time limit. extra credit.
Im finishing the last week of anth 1. The prof is really patient. She gave us a lot of chance to get the work done and gave feedback when I needed to improve. I will be taking more classes of hers.
She was an okay professor. I messaged her about a family emergency and she completely disregarded it. I also had questions about her feedback and she did not reply to that either.
I wish it wasnt too late to drop this class, one of the hardest I have taken as a straight A student. Based on the reviews she must be slightly better for other classes. For Forensic Anthro, be ready to name specific bones and write verryyyyy thoroughly for assignments. So far I go above and beyond on all assignments and still cant get above a B-
Very accomodating. I have DSPS accommodations and needed extra support. She will help you just have to ask. Yea there is work but it is forensic anthropology not high school. Do the work, get help when you need it. My second class with her always consistent.
Doesnt care about students, shes allowed to take forever to grade but students cant get extensions on assignments. Discussion boards are really hard so I wouldnt recommend this teacher at all.
I missed a few quizzes. She allowed the class to make up the quizzes at the end. Those points allowed me to increase my grade to A. I don't know why another person said they couldn't. Just email her and ask. but everybody had the same chance.
I have taken several classes with this professor. She is fair. The work is pretty standard, discussion posts, quizzes but all open notes. That makes a big difference. There is also about 40 points extra credit. I know students had moved up a grade letter. She responds to emails and wants to help.
Just finished the forensic class with an A. It was tough but I feel like I learned so much about it. Better than CSI! Pics were intense and so were articles. If youre and anthropology major this is a good class. Looking forward to world prehistory too.
I just got an A in her bio anthropology class for 8 weeks. So yeah 8 weeks is harder than 14 but not impossible. It is really important to read her syllabus. It is somewhat dry, the usual but there is some good information. I didn't know we have health care? Did you? Anyway, I thought I would get a B at best.
Follow all her rubrics. She offers two chances for every quiz which are open note for tests and quizzes. Responds quickly to emails. Do the reading and study for midterm and final. Up to 40 points of extra credit!
I took Prof Garcia's 8 week class last semester. She let me make up/turn in work that was assigned the first week of school, on the last week. She was quick to contact me back and gave me good advice. The weekly quizzes are straightforward and are open note. I learned so many new things. Overall, a great class and a great teacher.
Super caring professor, the material is really easy/interesting. She lets you retake quizzes and if you miss some you can take them at the end for full credit. Lots of extra credit. Just make sure you do your stuff on time, she closes things earlier than what's posted sometimes. Most things can be found on quizlet
I slacked off. She helped me by letting me turn in late work so I wouldn't fail. That means alot.
I would like to assert how helpful, patient, and accommodating Professor Garcia is. To be more specific, you should never hesitate to ask for clarification, reach out for help, and ask questions when you feel like you need the assistance. She was consistently accommodating to help me throughout the semester. I could not be more grateful.
Take this professor if you like to struggle. She grades based on how well you can read her mind. She asks open-ended, broad questions in her assignments. If you respond with broad, open-ended answers, she docks points because you didn't sufficiently answer her questions. It's incredibly frustrating. The assignment deadlines are unclear as well.
Prof Garcia took time to reach out and meet with me several times. When I fell behind she let me catch up.She encouraged me tall the way. No way she doesn't care. That student was probably a whiner we always get in class. If you have a DSPS and you need support, she can give it to you like she did me. If you dont want to work that's your fault.
Professor Garcia is a good professor. She does the job of giving different articles, quizzes, and these types of assignments help prepare a student for the test. Of course, the student has to be making sure to make a list of terms that they do not understand, it helped me a lot in ANTH 1. The terms aren't complicated and are google-able.
SO SO SO CARING. I have never had a better or more caring professor. She made the class interesting and was very understanding when I came down with COVID and missed assignments. She let us retake the quizzes twice I believe and let us make up missing quizzes at the end for full credit. Even if you didn't have an excuse and just forgot about it
The low ratings are like their talking about somebody else. Garcia was already ready to help.I told her a few questions on a quiz were not in lectures, she took them out right away. She said she doesn't want tricky questions in a quiz. I dont think any of these people that posted bad reviews tried to talk to her.
This class in particular was ridiculously easy. There were weekly quizzes and three discussion posts we had to participate in. Honestly I don't think I learned very much. She only provided reading material for study which was not engaging. If you need the credit, take this class. If anthro is your major, maybe consider another course.
Great class, learned a lot.
Doesn't know how to use canvas and just expects us to know when things are due. Doesn't know how to post things to the modules and like I said just expects us to know when things are due.
There are weekly quizzes that you get 2 tries on but the lectures never have the answers. The lectures are very broad while the quizzes are very detailed. She is very specific on the discussion boards and will take off a lot of points if you do not have everything. Not responding to a peer is already a 6/10
She is very respected towards her students. She awesome teacher she lets you have a break off during holidays. She is very helpeful working with special needs students. I really hope students take this advantage take her. She very cool teacher that loves to talk interesting caves story of her experience in spain. From Kami.
Good class. Garcia is fair and ready to help. Sends out reminders every week and replys to emails fast. Some speling errors but thats everybody. Good teacher good class. Im a business major and I liked this class and her.
I though her class was really good. She cared enough to help when i needed it and didnt ignore me. but why so many mean posts. she is no wear near this kind of teacher. Sus
Professor Garcia is a good professor who certainly understands what she's talking about. I personally found the class a bit boring at times and her lectures weren't amazing. But I'd recommend taking it if you want a fairly easy science class.
Professor Garcia is one of the kindest teachers I've taken: she genuinely cares about your success and wants you to learn. She also makes an effort to have a personal relationship with you; I've never felt reluctant to ask any questions. Light workload, online exams, overall easy and enjoyable class. Tons of extra credit opportunities! 10/10.
Super easygoing! Yes, things can be unorganized but she laughs it off with you. Many times in the year things were unclear, but everyone was on the same page. Graded on weekly writing assignments, quick-writes, and tests. She has open-conversations, respected opinions, and is receptive to feedback. Not sure why there's negative reviews.
My mother got sick and prof garcia gave me sometime. I was able to catch up and ended with A. Not all professors care. Work was reasonable too.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
I took the online class and it is very easy. One discussion board per week and 2 peer responses. One midterm one final, and one project. This class is very easy if you put the effort in. Just read the directions for the discussion boards and its easy to get a 10/10. Just put in the effort and you'll be fine.
The workload was easy, but the lectures were terrible as they were vague and didn't make sense. Quizzes rarely correlate with the given materials, but you get two tries. I barely learned a thing, but I still passed the class. She reopens quizzes at the end. Overall, not the best class if you want to get into anthropology.
Not communicative, confusing weekly modules, won't accept discussion replies same day you post your discussion (will ding you for this), wouldn't respond when commenting on her assignment feedback. I felt this was a disorganized course with total lack of engagement.
Teacher was horrendous. Constantly posted misleading announcements about when assignments were due, then denied that she sent those announcements even after being presented with irrefutable proof. Constantly posted misleading information about the assignments all over canvas, then blamed students for being confused. Save yourselves the frustration
Prof Garcia was great. Very caring. weird how there are so many hundreds of reviews for this prof .
Weekly quizzes that you get two attempts on + a discussion board. The class is a very easy A+, although I don't know how much you will actually learn.
This professor is super slow to grade and unfair when it comes to grading discussion posts. Do not take any classes with her. I truly do not think she cares about her students at all. She graded discussion 1 posts at week 5 out of 8. Lectures also have spelling errors.
Prof Garcia's ANTH1 class is an easy A with weekly quizzes, though the lectures can be vague. Unstuckstudy AI and the textbook helped with quiz prep.
She's one of the sweetest professors I've had! She is a bit of a slow grader and the final project could be refined more, but the tests are super easy. She lets the in-person students do the test at home too so there's some more comfort to that.
Very light coursework, which is nice because the lab class takes on the bulk of the work. You have around 1-2 quizzes a week with one discussion. You get a couple attempts on the quizzes and then she opens up the first 10 later on to retake one more time to get a better score.
I did not learn much in this course. the educational content provided by Garcia is in the form of simplistic power point slides, which are lacking in detail and depth. the weekly modules cover topics rather superficially in my opinion. easy enough to get an A, but there is absolutely no interaction from the professor even if you seek her out.
I do not recommend taking the course with this particular professor. She is basically non existent for the entire semester and not accessible to students enrolled in her class. She ignored every single email I sent her. There was never any feedback received for any written assignments that were submitted (I doubt she even read them).
Don't take it. She expects way too much. Very tough grader..
her anthropology course is so disorganized, lots of discrepancies/inaccuracies in the material taught, errors in assignment due dates, images are not viewable (don't load properly) on exams, extremely slow to grade. because of all these things, overall the class was an annoyance.
The course itself is interesting, but everything is disorganized like lectures - missing quizzes, missing sections, hard to read PowerPoints, etc. Everything is also based on reading scholarly resources, discussion boards, articles, etc - there's so many and they are annoying to read. She offers extra credit but it's a lot of work.
Horrible teacher. Overly critical on discussion board posts, while her own lectures and quizzes were full of inaccurate gibberish as well as her own irrelevant opinions. Final exam required an access code she never provided. Please help yourself, and do not take any of her courses.
The lectures and the quizzes barely aligned. The lectures were all just long weirdly organized essays and some videos, and were not very clear.
She wasn't terrible, but if you have a different choice, I would take it. She doesn't answer emails, she takes points off on discussions, and doesn't explain why, or her explanations don't make sense. Lots of quizzes with answers that don't make sense. Lots of typos in her lectures and quizzes make it harder to understand.
Never got to meet her but overall ok online class experience. The only thing you have to submit are discussions and quizzes. She has pretty high expectations for discussion posts that can be a little difficult to meet. Overall, her content on canvas needs to proofread. A lot of typos and sometimes I couldn't find the quiz questions in her lectures.
Not only is she incredibly hard to reach, but she is so lazy with organization. Everything is C&P from the previous semester and she didn't even bother to change any due dates. It's Nov, why is everything due in May? She doesn't post half the assignments and expects us to just know. She marks points off for anything and everything!
Took the online class. Class is unorganized and the requirements aren't clearly listed into assignments. Garcia encourages students to email her but she takes over a week to reply. Not ideal considering it is an 8 week course... Would not recommend, she doesn't seem very involved and doesn't really care for students.
I'm taking the 8-week course, and everything seems out of place most of the past due dates for assignments were due on May while at the time it was November. There's a lot of reading, and the tests get pretty heavy. Would not recommend taking this professor, not to help but mention some if not most of the links she gives out are broken.
