I think she is a very good teacher. Easy going, keep class and lab interesting. Quizes and Tests a little tricky, but give helpful mini review/outline for test. Approachable.
She is a good professor. Sets the rules at the beginning of the semester and sticks by them. Very approachable and easy to talk to. Has fun when she teaches lecture. The material can be hard, but if you study you can do very well in her class. I would take her again!
She is fun and jokes in class. Teaches and explains things well. Willing to answer questions, but best bet is to see her after class/in office, she likes to move on with lecture to not get behind. For tests, quite hard, best if you study the NOTES. Refer to the book for further understanding and help, but her tests are strickly from your notes.
She is not consistant with her grading. If she makes a mistake she will not change it. She is not an easy teacher. She gets smart with you, if you ask her a question. I do not like her. I do well on her test, because I study really hard, but she will find any reason to take a point off. She has had several complaints on her evaluations.
She is enthusiastic in lecture, but doesn't truly care about the students. She doesn't grade correctly. She wants specific wording on her quizzes/practicals. If you say too much, the answer is wrong. She won't give you the points back. No extra credit. Doesn't encourage the use of the textbook. Has an attitude if you ask a question.
She's freakn awesome. She makes you really want to come to class just so you can hear what she'll say next. Her passion for the subject really shows. She'll help those who ask for it, but she won't spoon feed you.Nothing in life is free of course you will have to study. Her notes are basically the test. The others are just bitter...Someone didn't study.
She doesn't care about her student's grade. She grades w/out mercy.Don't take her unless you want a C.
My advice....study outline along with the book. This lady is tuff! She is the only one that teaches this class so show her what you got. She will know who you are!! Only take this class when you have ALOT of time to study!!! Im glad it's over, but I did make an A!!!!!
Stupid, mean, unprofessional that are all about her. She knew she's the only instructor that teachs Micro, so she can do whatever she wants.
Disregard all the other comments..She is awesome! She explains material very well, and test are not hard if you know the material. She has a great sense of humor and is willing to help.I made an A studying the notes the day before...thats because I made sure material was clarified in class. Do the same and you'll be fine!
She explains the material well and uses real life examples. Tests are tricky, go to lectures and study notes
She is the best professor at CSU.Yeah she is tough but she wants students 2 learn so if you are not in school 2 learn dont take her class. She is easy 2 talk 2 and she has so much passion for her job.She takes her class serious so that her students will follow her lead. But just go 2 her office if your r having problems and she is delighted 2 help.
Love her to death!!She is super funny in class. She will have you wanting to come to class everyday to see who she will chump off next.lol You gotta love her and she is super smart and has the ability to breakdown the most complicated things and make them simple. She truly cares about her student as well as the school.Study outline and u will pass.
She has her favorite students. If your not one of her favorites be prepared to be looked over. She will pass those who didn't deserve it. Her quizzes are from the outline but her test includes material from the book and outline. Only take her if you have time to study DETAIL.
She is a great professor! She truly cares about the students and the students understanding the material. Yes, you do have to study...but everything is on her handouts and notes from lecture. I could have done better, but I have not been in class in 20 years and had to cram 2 semesters of knowledge into the short summer semester.
Ms. Farlane is very clear and coherent in her lectures. She uses every day situations to help in understanding difficult topics. Overall an excellent and fair teacher.
She is a professor that has favorites and if you're not one of her favs then be prepared to study. And don't miss class b/c she will not allow you to make it up. She is also bad at responding to emails, so don't bother
Professor McFarlane is an outstanding, excellent, and very fair instructor. She cares about students and whether they learn. She is a hands-on instructor in the Lab. Great all-around teacher. Got a C; could have done better, but for carelessness on answers on Practicals. I highly recommend this Professor if you want to learn and be treated fairly.
Ms. McFarlane makes her classes very enjoyable. She has a great personality and makes the subject matter interesting, however, her tests are generally much harder than they need to be!
She is funny as can be, makes class enjoyable and and fun BUT her test are completely something else. They dont really come from her notes, they're random and I didn't do as well as I would have liked to and I studied for them.
She's ok. She can get an attitude in the lab, so be prepared for that. Oh and she has favorites .. Her tests are hard, it's almost as if she's really trying to trick you into answering wrong. Seriously!
She was an excellent professor, who knew her stuff. She was willing to help you when you asked, even when she was frustrated. Her test are medium-hard, but everything on her test, she goes over during the review session.
She is a horrible teacher! Please don't take her if you really want to pass. Her tests are hard and she don't return or explain them. She reads off the ppt and gets an attitude with people who asks questions. Don't bother to send emails cos it will never be replied. I felt like her tests was set up purposely for you to fail it. Don't take her!
She is a good prof. Doesn't go over tests in class, but you are welcome to go to her office hours. Her tests are not hard IF YOU STUDY the material. Use her outlines AND read the text, don't just expect to learn by osmosis and you'll do fine.
I don't think Anatomy and Physiology is her field cos she is very horrible in teaching it. Although I made a B, I had to go to other professors for help. She don't return or explain her tests. People complained about getting wrong grades on the tests. If you must take her, be prepared to find other resources.
She is a good teacher but you must STUDY. She does make errors in grading and takes forever to grade things. I made a B but you must work for the grade. The tests are straight from her notes she gives you. I never looked at the book once it will confuse you because she is limiting what she wants you to know. If you study you will do fine
I took this class for the Sprng Semester and all I have to say is that she is good but her tests are VERY hard and tricky. I studied for all of my tests and I didn't do good on them. On the first test, she only had five or six people pass her first test everyone else failed...don't take her unless you dedicate you life to the book and to the class
she's a cool teacher but her style f teaching is not the best. Wasnt very good with replying back to e-mails or phone calls. Questionable when it comes to her grading methods. I recieves an 89 out a 100 question test and each question counted 2 points a piece. When confronted with a question about an answer that was marked wrong.... no valid answer
Needs to work on timeliness of returning exams, phone calls, emails, posting items.
I LOVE Professor McFarlane! She's funny, comes up with awesome stories to help you remember complicated topics! She can be "hard" but if you come to class, listen to what she says, and study, its really a breeze. She doesn't put up with any BS,so before you sign up, decide if you are in it to learn or play around. If its the latter, find a new prof
She is a cool professor but you must STUDY!!!! Her exams are VERY hard, and she doesn't reply to e-mails in a timely manner. Other than that her class was fun...!
Very hard prof. However, she is very dedicated to helping her students learn. Do not recommend taking this class unless you willing to put in the time required to understand the material. Also, make sure your on time and cut off your cell phone unless you want the look of death.
She seems very hard Professor and she is, but at the end of the semester you will learn lot from that class. And trust me if you work hard and study hard, You will get A. I think I did not put my all my hard work in that class, and I got B. She is a good Professor.
I learned alot and still ended up with a low grade. I am a 3.5 gpa student and have never had such a hard class. Do not take alot of classes if you are taking her. You will be expected to UNDERSTAND everything, not just remember. She doesnt return any emails and will scowl at you if you are late. Does not curve anything and does not help.
Ms. McFarlane never responds to emails, takes 2 weeks to grade tests and she'll look at you like you are crazy if you ask her a question. However, her lecture is awesome, she always gives a few easy extra credit points on tests and she is hilarious. Always show up, don't be late, don't expect her to hold your hand, study, she's really cool.
Ms. McFarlane is super funny. She always relates topics to everyday situations, which helps you remember the harder topics. She gets extremely agitated if you come in late...SO BE ON TIME! Her tests are average..she does try to trick you on T/F questions. You do not need the book, she tests from her notes and she posts lectures online.
Mrs. McFarlane has ways of teaching that help you relate it to real life. Therefore, you'll remember it easily. She does have funky ways such as looking at you with an evil eye if you walk in late, or bust you out if you're not paying attention. Turn off your phone prior to entering her class. She doesn't return emails so don't waste your time.
PROFESSOR MCFARLENE WAS HORRIBLE... DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. VERY UNORGANIZED AND SHE WAITS UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO POST TEST OR WORK IF SHE CAN REMEMBER TO POST IT... SHE DOES NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS OR CALLS AND IF YOU NEED HELP MOST VISIT HER DURING HER OFFICE HOURS NONE OFFERED OUTSIDE OF THAT TIME
She is very passionate about teaching. Love her lectures helped me to remember material better. She give you all the information for the test. All you have to do is read over lectures and do the learning curves and you will pass the test! Would definitely take her again. She also gives out extra credit.
Although Mrs. McFarlane does not answer E-mails and she absolutely hates when you are late to class, she is the best teacher I have ever had. Other teachers need to learn how to teach like her because she actually explains it to help the student understand.
I took her class online. Her lectures are a jokes. She is just reading the outline and adding a few weak antidotes. Most of the test questions are not in the lecture or outline. You have to read the book. Only reason I received a B was I used another professor's outlines, notes, and lectures. Avoid at all cost!!!
for her online classes, she has tricky exams. For example, she will tell you there will be 70 questions with a time limit. Then you get to the exam and it says 81 questions. You think you are doing good on your time and when you get to the last question #81, it has 20 questions on it. Then you run out of time. Very dishonest to her classes.
She's a tough (but good) teacher. She makes sure you know your stuff. She will make you work for it which means a lot of studying . Attendance is not mandatory because her notes are online but she explains it further in class. If you are not into the biology major, probably shouldn't take her.
McFarlane's bark is bigger than her bite! She has a tough exterior, but that is to make sure you understand she is no push over. She expects you to do your best. My only quam is that her wording on tests are tricky. You will find out later that you knew the answer, but she reworded it differently from her PP.
Ms. McFarlane is a joke. Her online class has lectures that should only take 1 1/2 hours to review but she is hard to understand and you have to stop constantly while taking notes. When the test comes, there are NO questions from the notes, lecture or book. She took 3 weeks to grade some assignments. I do not recommend her at all.
Dr. McFarlane is a tough grader, she even gives a warning as to how hard of a professor she is. She is very knowledgeable and knows her stuff, I think my problem with her is that she is not very approachable, shes very intimidating. Do not miss class or you will get left behind, especially in Human A&P
Prof McFarlane is a great professor if you want to learn. She takes micro seriously but jokes as well. She is very thorough and straightforward so if you are very sensitive and tend to get in your feelings and take things personal, this is not the professor for you. Do not show up for her class late because she will call you out.
She's a great person, but tries to hard to trick you on test questions. It's like she wants to prove something. Very frustrating. The class itself is fun, but all that goes out the window with her tests. It really seems like she wants to catch you off guard and confuse you. It's childish. Be sure to read the book!
She can be nice and joking when she wants to be. But you never really know what you will get. Attendance is mandatory, she makes that clear. She would often tell you a lot of things in class that didn't make sense to anyone but her and she would get upset when you asked for more explanation. She's not the worst, but she could be a lot better.
Professor McFarlane is the best professor I've ever taken. Yes, her tests are kinda tough but if you study and listen in class you will do fine. Her tests are made to test your knowledge and to see if you really know the material JUST STUDY! NO CRAMMING YOU WILL FAIL! Overall she is so funny and makes class so fun! TAKE HER!
She is hilarious. Im an art major, and she still kept me interested through the whole semester. We took 3 tests, and had online homework maybe 3 times. Everything she teaches is straight from the book, and she literally gives you answers to some questions before the test. On Halloween, she gave us 10 extra points on the test if we wore costumes.
Tries her hardest to trick you on the tests. Also, she always says that she will update D2L before the next class but she never does! Expects you to be prepared for class but will not hold up her end. Tests are tough. She also canceled class a few times because she was out of town. Good luck!
She's not a bad teacher. She's nice, just don't get on her bad side by being late all the time. She wants to make sure people are understanding the material since we are trying to become professionals. I wish I would of taken her for lecture.
Ms. McFarlane is the best, a little bit salty but funny. Her lectures are amazing and full of examples that help you memorize info easier. She gives 3 in-class tests, several quizes,an accumulative final,an easy case study & homework that required purchased code. A book is not needed as she gives powerpoint, but it is recommended. Loved this class.
OMG,,,, i loved her class. She was a teacher that keeps you intrigued the whole lecture . Note taking is not necessary, because her lectures are filled with enthusiasm, knowledge ,and a clear understanding that helps you retain the info. She made me want to change my major to Micro. she is the prime example of what we'd expect from a teacher.-kat-
Professor Mcfarlane was not a horrible professor but I dont agree with her grading techniques. Your grade depends on her mood of the day. If shes upset, she will be harder on you that day. She will leave as early as possible so get your labs done and already have an idea of what your doing the day before so you will not get left behind
Her tests are critical thinking tests, and her videos haven't been updated since 2012. She does not do emails. THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!!! She does not do emails! She has a great personality, and she is great at relating things to real life, and she gives you actual examples. She does not teach A&P often, and it shows.
She is the only teacher teaching this course, unfortunately, because her grades are critical thinking, but cumulative (which was more helpful than not). She will use double negatives to throw you off. She seems mean at first, but she will warm up. Sit towards the front because she is hard to hear sometimes. Know the material before she goes over it
If you are a HEALTHCARE MAJOR, whether it is nursing, PA, med, pharmacy (like me), SHE IS THE ONE TO PREPARE YOU FOR IT! She is one of the the BEST teachers I've had. I'm so ready to go into pharmacy school in the fall because she makes you change the way you study the material for success in your profession. P.S. Don't come late! It's rude anyway
I left this class with an 89, a B. If it wasnt for her, I wouldnt know how to properly study and to prepare myself for nursing school. DO NOT MEMORIZE. LEARN. This class is HARD, but the most rewarding class I have ever taken. She is very petty and sassy, do not let it get to you. She does care for your learning though. Its hard, but worth it.
Love her! She's hilarious and really knows her stuff. I enjoyed her lectures and really learned a lot. She gives you lecture notes for each chapter. STUDY THEM DAILY. And listen to her lecture videos posted online and take notes. The class is hard, but if you study you should do fine on her tests. Make sure you do well on homework and quizzes also!
Mrs. McFarlane is an awesome teacher, but she is by NO MEANS easy. Her tests are very difficult. Learn the material to be able to apply it, don't just memorize or you won't be able to correctly answer most of her exam questions. Homework grades help out a LOT. Use the book to supplement your studying, she pulls things from the book. STUDY STUDY
Dr Mcfarlane is okay if she likes you and a pain if she dont and she makes it obvious of her feelings towards you. She isnt the worse Professor but definitely isnt the nicest. Very militant in her techniques and her class can be stressful. My best advice is to be on her good side and study every little detail
If you miss a lab, she will not give you the opportunity to make it up AT ALL. I had a actual emergency and she still gave me a 0. She DOES NOT ANSWER her emails, and she is only available once a week for her 'office hours'. If you have to pick between another lab or her lab, choose the other PLEASE!
not easily accessible through email and is a very vague class
McFarlane stinks! If you ask for clarification on anything she bites your head off and makes you feel stupid. To her, all questions are dumb questions. She NEVER answers emails. She said she reads them, only to laugh at how dumb they are. So, if you like being yelled at and treated like crap, by all means take this prof.
Professor McFarlane is one of the best BIO instructors at CSU. She goes over lab material in a clear, easy to understand way. Sets up clear expectations at beginning of semester, so theres no confusion moving forward. Makes you work for it but fully equips you with the tools you need to succeed. Take her if you can, shes the incredible!
Her class is tough. You need to study very hard and make sure you understand the materials for her exams. She's funny but she doesn't joke around when it comes to understanding her materials. Don't be late to class and get ready to study everyday!!! she does pop quizzes as well to keep you on your toes.
Terrible. Dont take her unless you can teach yourself and dont have to ask for help. Makes you feel stupid, is not accessible after hours. She went off on a student for asking a question. She didnt post the practical on time. She wants US to be on time but shes late with everything. 0/10
Been in college for almost 4 years now and I have never had a professor as disrespectful as her. I believe she enjoys making students feel inferior and don't dare ask questions during lecture. She has belittled multiple students for it. Don't email her she proudly states she doesn't reply due to them being "stupid". I pray for you if you take her.
So bad. Sucks that CSU doesnt have more options for micro 2250. Wish someone would read these reviews and actually fire her. Shes so rude and has favorites. If she doesnt like you and youre late.. shell snap.. but there are girls that are late EVERYDAY and she doesnt care. Always complains about her personal life and never wants to teach.
She is one of the most disrespectful people Ive ever met in my entire life. Its really a shame bc mostly everyone that Ive encountered at CSU has been pretty decent. She is unprofessional, rude, condescending, and snaps(YELLS) at students who handle their business. This class has been one of the most terrible experiences of my life.
Great Professor. I just wish shed respond to emails quicker. It takes her 2 weeks to respond to emails. Shes very blunt and straight forward but youll like her. The practicals require ALOT of studying. You must pay attention in class to pass. Lots of hands on and shes very informative. She knows what shes talking about. Can be sarcastic though
While she is a good professor, I personally did not enjoy her class. Class is pretty much mandatory, you miss a day you miss a lecture. She's a pretty tough grader and is not one to tolerate excuses. My main complaint is that she is pretty late to respond back to emails and also grade material.
I had her for Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 Lab. The class itself is very easy to pass. You just have to memorize the stuff on the PowerPoints. In order to pass, I practiced the PowerPoints for 1 hour every day. Spelling counts on her tests since you have to type your answers out. She does review days on for extra credit.
I don't understand why she has some negative reviews. I took her for Spring 22 and she was amazing. Everything she tests on is on the PowerPoints given to us and the lectures in class. She does her best to help you memorize the material by providing mnemonics. Professor McFarlane has by far been one of the best professors here at Clayton.
I wasnt expecting much from this professor due to the reviews. Her lab was interesting , but when it came to take the practical it was hard. Shes a tough grader! I recommend not taking too much time on a particular part when studying. It was things that really didnt stood out. I seen people come back to retake her class again and pass or not.
Funny. She reiterates what will be on the quizzes. Wants you to win but you have to want it more. She is not a "difficult" teacher but you have to study! Knows her stuff. She cares but is not for the weak/soft. If you can't handle" Professor McFarlane then you shouldn't be in the medical profession. Rise to the challenge or change your major.
you gonna failed her class regardless of how hard you trying to study because whatever on the powerpoint will not be on the exam and theres also a webcam but she also watching it to catch student cheating during her exam.
Professor McFarlane is amazing!!!
Does not message often outside of class. Power-points will help with exams and past this, there are only short assignments on Macmillan, so there isn't too much to be concerned over. Exams use webcam and monitor, but we're allowed to take the questions we got wrong on a second chance for each exam!
Professor is not easy, but also not the most difficult. You will have to put in WORK to make sure you pass the practicals. However, she provides all the resources to pass the practical. All work done in lab is what will be on the exams so find a good study method and you will be set. Kinda hard to reach out to her in email.
Professor McFarlane mentioned that she felt very passionate about teaching Anatomy and that was definitely the case. The course content is complex on its own. However, she made sure we always had the resources to be knowledge-full. Put forth your best effort along with hers and you're guarantee to pass with flying colors.
Prof. McFarlane doesn't play about the disrespect, come to class ON TIME and don't play on your phone. She will definitely do everything in her power to give you the ability to pass her class. SHE WILL NOT GIVE YOU THE GRADE. You have to earn it, and that honestly pretty easy to do if you study. Also, take her lab if you can!
Do not take this class unless your prepared to be graded harshly. She is not professor that give you extra credit and alot of class assignments. The exams are very hard and requires an extensive amount of study time. But even if you study you still may not do good because what you studied may not be on the test. So good luck.
Shes very understanding but she doesn't reward people who are lazy.
Currently taking BIOL2251 online course over this summer semester and honestly I haven't learned much from this course at all. There are no lecture videos, no PowerPoints, only Mastering A&P and randomly assigned HW. There are no study guides for exams. Also non existent replies to emails. Exams are very difficult and make up MOST of your grade.
- Will not respond to emails. - Will have you purchase a pricy HW program and have you pretty much teach yourself everything from textbook. (No lectures, No PPT, No Study Guides, No supplemental material) - Cannot go back on questions during tests, one you answer that's it. - No extra credit Take someone else if you can. Do not recommend.
She does not provide enough details or homework assignments, and she is often late in uploading coursework online. Additionally, she does not offer extra credit or provide a study guide for her online students. Navigating her course feels like a maze; we practically have to teach ourselves.
Cares about students yet strict
She's a great professor and cares about if we understand the material. Study only the things she says to study and she only covers the important things so don't study the book. She's not as hard as the reviews say also I don't recommend taking her online she's amazing in person and your more likely to pass with a B than those online.
Be ready to teach yourself! Attendance is only useful because she gives hints for the quiz/exam. Most of what you're tested on comes straight from the textbook, most she won't even mention in lecture. The lectures are very lax/calm, but the exams are very intense. I don't think she's a good teacher. I wouldn't take another class with her..
Professor McFarlane is amazing. She wants you to learn the material. She tells you what to study for to help you pass. Don't take this course if you are a lazy student who just wants to get by.
There is nothing amazing/respectful about this professor. Everything in her syllabus is a lie. She NEVER responds to emails (or teams, her preferred method). Course work is hardly uploaded on time. Testing is beyond difficult. She speaks poorly abt the online class to her in-person class. Beyond unprofessional! She wants the online class to fail.
Professor McFarlane will not respond to your emails until her boss instructs her to. She gives no feedback. No extra help. If she forgets to post homework for a month, believe that you will randomly get all that homework due in a week because "it will help you later on". If you can take another professor, I would strongly advise you to do so.
Second time I've had this professor and she is extremely unprofessional. Complete lack of communication, behind with uploading material, and talks negatively about her online courses to her in-person classes, will essentially punish you for taking inline rather in-person. I would advise all students to take anyone but Dr. McFarlane.
Unsure why CSU hasn't added an additional professor to teach MICRO. This professor is very unprofessional and condescending. Online classes have to "suffer" since we are not in person. (her words as told by an in person student). Lack of material with below minimum teaching. It's like she doesn't want to teach us. If I could get a refund, I would.
Does not teach in any capacity. She expects students to learn off dry lectures and the book only. I've learned more from my study group than I have from the actual teacher. She never responds to communications and when she does it's in a very rude tone. Need to set a meeting..? Good luck! I have learned nothing beyond basic knowledge in this class
Avoid at all cost! You are shorting yourself if you have to take this professor online. Find another option. You will be teaching yourself and you will not learn a single thing from her. No communication. Cant stick to her own syllabus/schedule. Then has the audacity to be a tough grader and hold us accountable for things she never taught us.
I personally would not recommend this professor. She has been very hard to reach all semester and does not follow her syllabus. She also talks poorly about her online section to her in person section. There have been many instances where she doesn't post lectures/homework until we remind her several times.
THE WORST. Do not take her online unless you want to get an ignored when you need help. We had to go to the Biology chairman to get her to answer.
This class is relatively easy but she makes it difficult. She did not respond to any email I've sent to her this semester. Also, as of the last day of classes, she has only graded less than half of assignments done this semester. Also, very strict.
Strict but fair class was not too hard just pay attention
She does care but her attitude is terrible and she rarely takes accountability for a mistake. She justified her marking me wrong even though I answered correctly. Stating “it was too long”
She's knowledgeable professor and holds regular office hours if you need to talk definitely approachable in person. Her tests, though, are no joke. Even if you understand the material, she'll twist a question just enough to test your critical thinking. It makes things tough since the course already packs in a ton of infor. im taking class again
The most disrespectful teacher I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE ! She always has an attitude 24/7 for no reason whatsoever !!!! The class is class , yes she makes it so hard . She doesn't care about her students ! You either know it or you don't because she's not going to help you or respond to emails . If you ever take her, I pray for you
This professor made a comments that stuck with me and also made me lose hope . After given our test back she said “some of yall should've just dropped the class” Knowing that regardless or not we would still have to take it . Me being a person who failed the test knowing I studied so hard and somehow still failed really disappointed me.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HER! SHE WILL FAIL YOU! TAKE THE CLASS WITH ANOTHER PROFESSOR OR TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE! SHE IS WICKED AND SHE WILL NOT GO FAR IN LIFE WITH HER ATTITUDE! INSTEAD OF COMING ON HERE IF YOU HAVE TAKEN HER.PLEASE DO THE STUDENT SURVEYS AND TELL HOW SHE REALLY.WORST DECISION EVER! I SHOULD HAVE DROPPED HER CLASS!
