SHE IS CRAZY....LETS JUST LEAVE IT LIKE THAT..!!
not crazy, just from NJ. very difficult class, with lots of memorizing and difficult ideas addressed quickly. plan on needing an outside tutor. fairly easy to talk to if you aren't timid, but not great for lots of individual help. ask about her dog :)
I love Dr Muro. I have taken 4 chemistry courses with her nad she knows her stuff. The material in chem (especially organic) is difficult, that's not her fault. If you plan on going on in Chemistry take her she really is very smart.
Very intelligent woman!! It's not her it's the material. I have taken three classes with her and gotten an A every time, so give it a shot! COME TO CLASS PREPARED!
very smart, clear, and helpful teacher.i loved both of her organic classes and because of them i got more interested in organic. i wanted to major in chemistry and progress with an advanced degree in organic(thats how much i loved organic because of her) but i got accepted to pharmacy school.
She sucks and doesnt teach the material. No review of homework or quizzes/exams. Her most well known quote from class is "Your education is not about me." Let that be the judge of this teacher.
Teacher is very fast and hard to follow.
SHE IS NOT HELPFUL BAD VERY FAST DOESN"T EXPLAIN NOTHING AND HARD TO FOLLOW Y SHE IS A TECHER I HAVE NOOO IDEA IF SHE TELLS UR EDUCATION IS NOT BASED ON ME ?????? YYYYYYYYYY NEVER THE WORST THING IN MY LIFE IS I TOOK A CLASS WITH HER .
Extremely good teacher. Her classes are not easy but a good college course is not supposed to be EASY. In order to pass her class you are forced to learn the material and learn the material very well.
She knows what shes talking about, but she speaks very fast. She keeps bringing up that it isn't her job to teach the material to you, but to inforce it, this gets very annoying.
Very hard instructor, but makes learning fun. Laid back in lab and lecture. Will help you during office time, tries to make sure you understand by using examples related to real life. Very hard instructor..but I like her and would take her again
Dr. Muro head movements give me motion sickness. Lectures do not help at all, nothing like the test. Do the homework and take your own notes out of the book and you'll do much better than her lectures. If you take her...be prepared to sleep in class and listen to her annoying laugh. "yep yep yep..absolutely"
Great lecturer, very motivated. Tons of examples off the top of her head. Tests were not as difficult as I had expected up front. Lets face it Dorothy, this isn't Kansas; nor is it High School! Just be responsible and bone up to the challenge and you'll do great with Dr. Muro!
Life and studies are the same. They both have responsibilities. Do your homework, don't miss classes, follow the rules and you'll be fine. It's not as difficult as it seems. You just have to give it a try. You'll like it. I loved her class. Makes me awake just be being in it.
Don't take this professor! She doesn't help you with anything and she talks about random stupid things and wastes LOTS of time. Take my advice, steer clear of Muro!
miserable teacher, knowledable about the subject very, but she teaches it like it's a graduate class, not an OCC chem class. She doesn't help, get's VISABLY angry when people ask questions, and quite frankly grades you on how well she likes you as a person
good talks fast in class do Hw. Easy to pass hard to get a good grade
It's funny because she seems very nice. But if you stick around you're find out that she does not help you very much, she teaches this class like she's teaching someone who has nothing to do but read all day all night, 1/2 of the things she taught are all thats in the homework. The other half, you figure it out.
it's not easy, but certaintly not impossible. reality check for those who have gotton used to easy occ classes, this is what it will be like if you transfer. she is helpful and available during office hours but not overly friendly. this is not high school anymore...buck up and deal with it.
I've never taken Chem before and was not too hard to understand. There were some things that ended up on the test that she does not teach. Enthalpy she basicly shows you that she knows how to do them, does not teach. Is afraid to help you on the homework and dissappears during lab. She is funny and knows her stuff well, but is lazy too.
If you read the chapters and pay attention in class you will be fine. Many people said that they did not like her but they had the attitude that this class should be the same as in high school. This is college and is college class. She does a good job teaching. She does not help with homework but networking is wonderful!
I loved this teacher, she was very fair and helpful. The people that had problems in her class weren't doing the homework or labs (or were doing them at the last minute) and expected her to hold their hand through it to pass the class. This is COLLEGE, and she helps you get used to self-initiated learning.
She is a horrible professor. Not very helpful and does not explain herself.
this was the worst class I've ever taken. If you have the opportunity not to take her, DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't ever take this class with this teacher! Very poor teaching skills and not helpfull at all !
She is a nice teacher, but does not explain herself and is not real helpful!! Take a different teacher if possible.
Dr. Muro is a very cocky and unfriendly professor. i hope you are ready for a lot of studying and reading!
She's an average teacher (cocky, but friendly if you talk with her) but loses points in the "helpfulness" department -- I'm still unclear on what she will and will not help you with (she insists specific questions are fine, but general questions require a visit to the IIC). Her tests are difficult and there's little standards to her lab grading.
Worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. The woman yells at you if you ask her a question. I mean...what the hell is that? Aren't teachers supposed to answer questions and help you out with things you don't understand? One of her says are "It's not my job to teach you"...enough said.

She is and was by far the worst Prof. I have ever had at OCC. She does not like to answer questions, she said that is what IIC is for. I thought that is what we as students pay her for. If you can I would highly suggest taking this class with someone else. It will be worth the drive.
I had her a while back and if she is still anything like when I had her she is very hard. Not approachable and willing to help by no means. Just think about taking this class before you do.
You guys are wrong, Dr. Muro is an awesome chem teacher. if you guys are complaining about it being hard, think about it, it's college chemistry. I think she's a cool lady with a good class set-up and i'm not the smartest person but somehow i'm getting a very high grade in the class because i know what college work is and how you need to work.
Muro's class (Organic/Biochemistry) is not a walk in the park but she is definitely not the worst teacher that I have ever had. One thing is for certain, you defintely have to stay up on all of your homework, reading, studying or you will most likely not be successful.
hard but what do you expect your in college
good class if you've GOT to take chem, because it's not an easy subject. she makes it tolerable, and the tests are NOT that hard, the homework is much harder. never trick questions or too intense material, especially on tests or final. learn the stuff, know the concepts, you've got a passing grade- maybe even an a :). take it you guys, good stuff.
What an idiot. Muro is the worst teacher I ever had in my entire life. One day after class I asked her a question about something I wasn't clear on and she told me that I needed to pay attention and scolded me. You call that a teacher? She is very unfriendly, and WAY more cockey then she needs to be. If you can, go to another campus for this class.

Although the class requires a lot of work and studying, it is after all college chem2. But she gave us a 30 page packet (for each chapter) of her OWN notes with all the info that you will need for HW and exams. Labs are easy10/10. Exams are hard, but she gives a LOT of extra credit to help you out. Tip:form/join studygroups.
Dr. Muro gave very clear instructions and was usually available for extra help. She did however, get snippy if you ask her a question on something that she had already discussed... she is enthusiastic about chemistry and i did learn alot from her class.
Dr. Muro has a sense of humor and will address questions as needed. I found her style very accommodating and reasonable. I should have an A when it's all over.
She is a good teacher, and is enthusiastic about her subject matter. She does'nt have much patience for dumb questions (ie. asking about something that she had just explained. She doesn't just give away the grades, but if you do the work and study, you get the grade that you deserve.
Friendly, entertaining-I enjoyed her teaching skills. She hands out a package with study guides and practice tests. Her tests are difficult but she grades fairly. It is an extremely time consuming class-would not recommend taking the accelerated version of this class.
too hard of tests to even pass! I took chemistry I, that is a beginner chemistry class not rocket science, like she makes it! I had to withdrawl cause she is too hard of a teacher! do not take her class!
Makes class harder than it actually is. Runs many miles a minute and is amped off something. Just haven't figured out what yet.
HORRIBLE. I love chem but she was terrible, all she would tell you is its in the book. In lab she told you to ask to people around you but NO ONE had any clue. Dropped because she taught us as we have been doing it for years but had no clue. She wonder why everyone leaves to take Hitchcock. Um because you FAIL EVERYONE! TAKE HITCHCOCK!
Tests ridiculously hard! One little mistake and 16 or so points down the drain- NO partial credit! As said before, Labs were often unclear and she didn't really try to help, and would often just leave the class and was no where to be found. haha yeah, IM LEAVING HER FOR HITCHCOCK!!
100% true: There's a difference in being a hard teacher and being a mean teacher. She is a mean teacher. I'm always up for a challenge in a class like this, I expect it. But when you have a unapproachable teacher like her it not only makes the subject more difficult than what it is (labs), but it also makes you want to crap the subject altogether.
This class is not easy but Dr. Muro wants you to learn and gives lots of helpful handouts on the material. Dr. Muro is a great teacher, and if you put your time into the class you will get a good grade.
Dont be an idiot. study. Do your homework. read the book. Do all this before class and you will be just fine. Skip class? Put off doing your work? then you are an idiot and will fail reguardless of the professor.
Ppl that scored her poorly prly didn't put much effort in. She's awesome. They're just mad bc they probably ask her ?s when its break time rather than office hours(as she requests)If u have a ?, make an effort 2 get help when ur supposed 2. Knows material so well & has interesting lectures. Its not the professor thats difficult, but the class!
Dr. Muro is a great teacher. she does a perfect job n' there is always help if you need it. All you have to do is take proper notes, listen in class, and do what she tells you to do. whoever says she is mean is either dumb and shouldnt be there or is rude themselves. she is very eccentric and loud which is funny. Overall so far my fav. teacher.
Ok teacher for independent, self learners who's done VERY well in CHM 1510. Otherwise, Nada. You'll get an easy D or F in this class if you're a beginner. All over the place with her notes leaving you daydreaming and confused. She says form study groups, but how can you do that when no one in the group has a clue what's going on??
I'm soooooo sick of everyone complaining about this class during break, and being scared that Dr. Muro is going to come back from break and catch them.Hello people this is chemistry, it's supposed to be tough. If only they put half that energy into the class instead of whining, maybe it wouldn't be so hard. Dr. Muro is a good teacher.
I am a staight A student and had to drop this course. For starters, she DOES NOT have office hours!!! Second, in lecture she doesn't like to answer questions since it is a "lecture", not a Q&A. And lastly, she will not help you in the slightest way in lab. She and the TA may even look at you and laugh. She's just there to "babysit".
Honestly, she is a great teacher. Her lectures are clear and cover everything you need to know. The assignments follow exactly the material presented. She is tough, but you actually LEARN. Isn't that what you are suppose to do???
The class was a lot of work but if you put in the effort it wasn't that bad. Muro was helpful, lectured to the point and clear. Overall I enjoyed the class! Definatly you have to have time to do homework and study..you wont pass if you dont keep up..
I loved Dr. Muro. She definately had a passion for what she was teaching, and lectures and labs were fun! However, If you can't learn well on your own and are kinda slow, you will fail. She will tell you to study one thing hardocre, then only give you one question on an exam. Seriously Study everything! She's tough and shows no mercy.
Dr Muro was great. She was energetic, helpful, and made showing up to class three nights a week for seven weeks bearable! I would recommend her to anyone, but you have to be willing to put in the work. It also helps to form a study group.
Dr. Muro is a great instructor. She's very informative and as long as you do what she tells you. You should be fine. However, studying and staying on top of the work is highly recommended to pass and score well on the tests. make sure your not taking >12 credits or + like me.Overall she's a good teacher, but a tough grader on the labs and tests.
Get ready to work! This class is the apitamy of college chm. would not recommend with full course load. Its extremely time consuming and dare I say, you must study it every day to get a passing grade, if you want an A you will not have much of a life, see Moy the tutor she understands your pain and can get you through.
You have to be a self learner for this class. I highly recommend to do all problems in the book. Her test questions come directly from the book. Those that study her homework are the ones to do poorly...stick with the book and you will do fine! On average I put in 15 hours a chapter and received an A+ in class.
dr. muro was an awful teacher! she would go off on useless tangents for the longest time. she doesn't even look at you when you talk, making it very hard to have a conversation w/ her. i do not recommend taking her, you probably won't pass unless you have nothing but time to study!
OMG!!! If you have just taken Organic Chem you will be fine. But if not study, study, study! Do ALL problems. There are no excuses for missed or late work. You really should attend a study group. Moi works with her the best. Best of luck.
Makes the class appear harder than what it is. Acts as if your life will end if you don't start understanding what you're doing. Likes to make papers bleed in red ink with, "See Me" or "You're not Passing this class!". Talks really fast and loud. Strict. Not terribly interested in answering questions.
Very organized. Develops analytical thinking
She keeps you awake during lecture. Not a monotone lecturer. Very fair. She tells you how to study for her class, DO IT!!! If I can be in the hospital for 1 1/2 weeks and still get a B, you can easily get a good grade, just have a study group with Moi 1-2 times a week :) It is a hard class. One other thing, she is VERY picky on your bond placements
Dr. Muro is the best teacher I have had thus far in my college career and I am on my way to medical school. She knows her subject inside and out. She does allow questions during lectures, I should know I asked questions all the time. Don't miss any classes or you will miss a ton of material. Form a study group right away with 3-4 people, read t
Senseless nit pickyness, and tough test grader, does not give answer key after tests for students, you have to figure out what you did wrong on tests she gives ! So you end up basically learning nothing from your wrong answers! Many exam questions stray well away from book examples. No wonder this class was so easy to get into! Yikes, Beware!
She's tough. She's very perky, although she can be unreasonably grumpy sometimes. However, she's very tough. She grades very harshly, especially labs. This is the 2nd time I've taken this class, and I had an A the first time, and this time I've worked my butt off and I think I'm not getting higher than a B at best.
Pros=Very lively and keeps you interested in the topic. Good sense of humor and knows her material.Cons=Tough grader, esp the labs. Can be very loud and grumpy sometimes. Tests are confusing and unclear. Not very approachable and doesnt give you exam reviews or answers after test. Overall, I liked going to class, but it was stressful and hard work :
This class is hard as hell. Be prepared to work your ass off for a good grade. Muro is knowledgeable but seems a little burned out with the subject (she has been teaching for 25 years.) She is not flexible, you must do everything as she explains it. If you can do basic algebra, you are a hard worker and can follow directions you will do well.
She tries to make the lecture interesting. Makes a lot of jokes(sometimes funny, sometimes not). You need to study a lot to get a good grade. She also gives you a lot of homework which has similar patterns to the tests. Just study off the homework she gives you and you'll get good grades
DONT EVER TAKE HER. SHE GIVES NEGATIVE POINTS FOR GUESSING. expects you to be at her phD Level. She expects everything to be perfect and does not give partial credit. Tests and quizes are hard. Gives quizes for every class.
she s so sarcastic doesn't motivate her students always puts you down.... makes it sound that it s the end of the world ... she s very ready to retire .... not a good teacher she has her favorites in class and the others doesn't exist....
unless you're naturally smart or absolutely love chemistry...i recommend that you do NOT take her. The homework that she gives you does not relate to her exams AT ALL. Her lectures are no use either.
Dr. Muro is not very helpful at all, and she puts you down and makes you feel bad about asking a question. She also has favorites in class. She never moves off the stool during lab and expects you to know everything on your own. She's very rude and impossible to talk to. I would not recommend her to anybody! Her tests do not make sense and I studie
I feel she is a great Professor. If you do your homework and go to all lectures you will pass her class.
Prof Muro is an amazing teacher. She's a tough grader, though, but really knows her stuff! 2 follow along in her class you need 2 no how 2 work through the problems, cuz she only goes through them 1 or 2 times during lecture and then expects u 2 do all the homework immediately afterwards, cuz she doesn't repeat calculations once the lecture's over.
I like Dr. Muro, but you have to be up for teaching yourself about 50% of the chapter. That's actually her motto, she tells you to read the chapters ahead of time, because she doesn't have time to teach it all. And yet there are a lot of tangents... just study and do the HW and you'll be fine.
She's a great teacher! She isn't easy at all, but chem isn't an easy subject either. If you do the hw & keep up w/ the reading you can do well in this class. I suggest buying the book early & start reading ASAP bc the chapters are crazy long & it can be easy to fall behind. The more she realizes people aren't reading the less she teaches in detail.
Unbelievably unhelpful
This was a very helpful teacher. She ants all her students to learn and do well. Chemistry isn't easy but you can definitely learn with her as your professor. Pay attention and participate in class and you will do well. Don't forget to study your book/notes.
Dr. Muro needs to retire immediately. Chemistry is a difficult subject as it is and having a very rude and unhelpful teacher do not help things. Unless you are one of her favorites, she makes you feel like an idiot when you ask a questions. Always rushes to lab after lecture without answering any further questions. Take anyone else please.
honestly for the average student, don't take her class. I graduated from high school with a 4.0 gpa and now i work 40 hr weeks as well as take four classes. I have an A in the class but honestly i dont study or do anything. IF your not a genius please reconsider taking this class.
one of the worst teachers, her class is a joke all you need to do is cheat, which alot of people do. as long as the answers, just go over them and try to do them. the labs are easy as well. take this class.
Shes a nice person but she made the class tough. I did not enjoy being there at all, but I'm not a fan of chemistry. I passed and thats all I care about, but I studied way too much.
Wonderful teacher. She is very understanding to students that try. She does not like cheaters and slackers. If you like chemistry and studying its the perfect class for you. If you are required to take this class and learn best in the classroom this is the class for you. She is very clear in class.
knows how to teach but doesnt teach what is required for exam lvl problems. exam questions are very hard and much more complicated than hw problems; should be the other way around - not fun to try and solve problems that you have no practice doing. also, when its time to take exam shes already lecturing on material 1-2 chapters ahead. DONT TAKE.
Dr. Muro is very intelligent and knowledgeable about chemistry. I was terrified to take this class because of all the bad comments people posted. They are wrong! She really is a great teacher, and so nice. Whoever cannot pass this class clearly isn't ready for any Physician Assistant/nursing/medical school they are looking forward to going to.
She's a good prof. She is clear and helpful. tutor group is available, mine met before class, which was super helpful especially w/ homework. You need to read her notes and then the chapter part she covered before the lecture, there is so much to learn, the lecture makes more sense and is easy to follow if you are a chapter ahead. +read labs before
I do NOT recomment this teacher at all. She is very unhelpful and has clear "favorites" in the class. She is not willing to work with students so that they are sucsussful. It might be a good class if she likes you, but if not your out of luck. (especailly if your a non science major). Also, her chuckle in between every other word is higly annoying.
She's a very nice lady but she shouldn't be teaching lower level chem classes. If you're new to chem DO NOT TAKE HER. If you've had chem previously, then go for it. I think she'd be good for people who already have an understanding of chem, but not for people who know nothing about chemistry.
Muro is a good teacher, but she impossible to get an A in because her test are hard. The only people that got an A in this class are people who have taken chemistry before. The test are so frustrating that I disliked chemistry in the end. I do not recommend taking this class if your future depends on a good grade or if your going into chemistry.
she's horrible. her tests are nothing like her homework, text book questions, and even owl. her curve for a B is 75. most of the students end up getting a 66-73 which is a C. i don't recommend her very bad at what she does.
Honestly if you do the homework and the book problems you will do well on the exams. You do have to put a lot of work and study time into this class (at least 5 hours a week). With the curve I ended up with an A, and no, I do not like chemistry, nor was I good at it before the class. She knows her stuff. Good teacher overall.
This Teacher is horrible. She does not help you at all. She marks you down for every little thing you miss on the quiz or test. Her test are hard and you are never prepared for the exam because she don't prepare you. If you are not her favorite, you can forget it. Also, you are going to work and work hard in her class. Stay away. Everyone.
Utilize tutoring she knows her stuff, but isn't that helpful to students for classwork. She was helpful as a lab instructor though.
To survive this class, you need to make friends. Her lecture kills me because she goes so out of order (lectures ch. 3.8 and then goes back to 3.1) I found it more useful to do notes from the book. she makes you feel stupid for asking questions. make a lot of appts for tutoring. the chem lovers in the class are doing just as bad.
Lectures primarily consist of off topic conversations and her doing problems quickly. She does not explain things and has even said "im not your math teacher" which is hard when chem II is all math... Overall tests are too bad, but the homework is a killer
Horrible teacher!! Very rude. Not helpful at all. Lectures are unclear and usually totally off topic. Tests, homework and assignments are all totally different styles and have completely different question formats. Do not take her.
This prof. is awful. Very rude and not helpful at all. Doesn't give you time at all for exams and quizzes. Lectures new material before you take exams and quizzes. Rushes through notes and laughs at her own jokes. Worst teacher I have ever had in my college career. Not willing to help you in any kind of way. The tutors are so nice and are helpful.
Ratings are very accurate here. None of the problems are actually done she just points to things she has done before. OWL homework is terrible and full of errors. HW is taken from other universities. AVOID
over complicates things. I honestly never review professors, but in this case, i felt i had too. Just a really bad teacher. Very rude and impatient. Condescending.
Avoid this teacher. Almost the whole class will end up with a failing grade. She is rude and arrogant. She contradicts and claims to know more than noble winning chemists. That says a lot about her. take this class at another campus.
She is very clear in her expectations of students and knowledgeable in her field. Attend lecture/lab, read the book, do the homework, follow instructions and you will do just fine.
I would not recommend this professor. I have taken two chemistry classes prior to this and still had difficulty. Her tests are very hard and you are going to have to teach yourself a lot of the material. Not a good experience!
I've taken 1510 and 1520 with her and I will say she's a very nice person, but awful professor. She goes through problems quickly and doesn't tell you any steps. Her tests are usually short but the problems are worth a lot. This is bad because she doesn't prepare you for them. She will be on chapter 19 when you're testing on 15/16. Do not take her.
This class was just awful. Everyone is confused after the first class and it continues to get worse. The only saving grace is the SI sessions, but then you have to go to a four hour class and start new material. Quizzes every class AFTER she's been lecturing about completely different material. Possibly worst teacher I've ever had.
Don't take this class at auburn hills. Her lectures are disjointed and all over the place. If you ask for help she is very condescending and acts like you're stupid. She's arrogant and very hard to talk to. Try not to let her get into your head. Once you're in the class just try your best.
This is a tough class, if you go to lecture and do your assignments you will do just fine. This is not a class you can just skate through. she is very clear on what she's looking for. fair! I thought Doc was great. She's friendly and very helpful. She wants you to do well but she makes you earn it. I think she's a great teacher, and funny too.
TAKE THIS TEACHER! Dr. Muro is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Over her years of teaching she understands how to break things down to be easily understood. Her lectures are long, but they have to be, there is a lot of information. Go to class, do the hw, go to the SI sessions before class, study what she tells you to and you're golden.
Dr. Muro was one of my best professors I've had over the years. Very clear and more importantly she wants you to learn the material, but you have to put in the work also. Chemistry is like learning a second language, this class opened up channels in my mind I didn't think I had. Just be ready to work when you get there! Overall Great Experience!!
Dr. Muro is fair & competent. Very organized & funny. Lecture is long & fast-paced - don't miss any or u'll fall behind. Be prepared 2do lots of example problems & homework. She's clear with what she's looking for in grades & labhw requirements. I hated chem in hs but Muro made it fun. Got an A but had2 work hard for it. Would take her again.
Dr. Muro is an excellent teacher. She breaks the material down & makes it easier to comprehend. She provides a ton of assignments & extra credit for practice & chances to increase your grade. She is very straightforward, follow the syllabus, do the work, attend the lectures & you will do well & learn A LOT. Best prof I've had so far at OCC!!
Dr. Muro, I don't know where to start. She is set out to fail students. Coming from a student who took orgo chemistry at MSU, I was struggling in her class. She gives exam and quizzes after she lectures four hours. Now, by then, you'll probably be sitting there not focusing on the lectures, but the material on the quizzes. Not approachable.
I don't know where to start... She goes back and forth with her lecture. It is very unorganized and confusing. You have to get used to her "unorganized lecture" to be able to understand. So many hwk to do online and turn-in along with all the lab stuff. You really have to teach yourself to follow with her lecture.
Dr. Muro is an excellent professor! She is very thorough in her lectures, and extremely clear with her expectations. Read the syllabus and follow it - she does, come to class (not mandatory but HIGHLY recommended), do the homework, take advantage of all extra credit options, go to office hours, etc. She doesn't hand out good grades, you earn them!
I love her class. I have taken chem with her for 2 semesters straight. She is very clear about what she wants from you and her lectures. She makes you work to earn your credits. You have to really study and attend her lectures to get good grade on her tests.I have learned a lot from her class.
dr. Muro was sort of all over the place during her lectures, I had a hard time following along and a hard time teaching it to myself. Chem overall is hard so expect to put in work
Dr. Muro is an amazing organic/bio chemistry professor. She takes time to explain everything clearly and really cares about her students. She is always willing to ask questions. If you go to class and pay attention it is easy to get a good grade. Quizzes almost every week, online and scantron homework every week, 4 tests and a final.
This is a tough class, you must read book & go to all classes. Dr.M has very clear & well structured lectures. Gives homework & opportunity for extra credit . VERY fair & helpful! Will take the time to help you if you ask. Do not take this class if you aren't prepared to work hard! Dr.M makes it as easy as possible. I am taking her for CHE 1520.
She makes me angry because she tries to always be peachy and nice in front of a lecture hall but when she's one on one she's hard to reason with. Very strict with what she wants. She also has a hard time remembering little things like what day it is, it's pretty childish. Would not recommend her. Have not received rating sheet fron her either...
Dr Muro is very enthusiastic about chemistry and loves what she does, which makes her a great teacher in my opinion. She will never shoot down questions and will always help you to the best of her abilities. She expects you to read the text, many test questions come directly from the book. If I could I would take all my chemistry courses with her.
When she gives lectures she doesn't really explain stuff well. Her tests have things on it that she never covered in class. If you don't understand something then she'll talk to you like your stupid and she'll say things loud enough so that the whole class can hear your conversation. I would not recommend her AT ALL. Avoid at all costs.
Not helpful, won't make the effort to help, and difficult lecture to follow! She covers so much that never makes it to a homework assignment or exam. Take this alone or with a light course load.
Lectures were heavy but not unbearable, labs were very hard and she does not give any instructions what so ever. Make sure to hand everything in on time or it's not accepted and STAY CLEAR of talking to her one on one. Very rude and hard to speak to. Stay clear of this prof
Dr. Muro is a decent professor. Her lectures are a little scattered, so make sure you read the book and do all of the homework! She is however, very nice and for the most part forgiving. Labs are easy, lecture can be dry and exams are tough, but she's fair and gives out a couple extra credit points every chapter and larger EC projects as well.
Chemistry is not an easy subject. No one is going to teach a blow-off chemistry class. Passing this class is do-able though. You need to put in the time to understand the material. Offline homework is multiple choice but it is still difficult. Pre-read your lab manual, you will run out of time if you don't know what to do ahead of class.
Honestly the worst class I have ever taken. Wayyy too much work for such a low level class. Prof was not helpful outside of class and when you asked for help she would say there was nothing she could do about it. TAKE IT ANYWHERE ELISE WITH ANYONE BESIDES PROF MURO
A previous post said "this is Chemistry its not going to be easy"& I agree! I also feel we went past the scope of Intro Chem. However, she is very passionate about Chem & does a good job of explaining it & encourages questions. She is fair with grading & thankfully gives extra credit! But make no mistake this is a hard core math class be prepared.
Teacher is zero help to her students. She will only answer your emails during her office hours for your specific class. That would be an hour before each class, so thats two hours per week. When you ask her a question in class, her response is to just go think harder about the problem. Terrible teacher.
Dr. Muro really wants students to succeed. She gives you all the materials to well in her class. It is just up to students to actually put fourth the effort. Go see the tutors, do the back of chapter problems, all of the homework and take advantage of all the extra credit!
Spoiler alert: this will be the HARDEST class of your entire college career. However, Dr. Muro does everything she can to help you succeed! 4 exams, LOTS of extra credit, multiple choice final, Online hw, labs, and weekly quizzes. Sounds like a lot, and it is but lots of opportunity to earn points! Go to SI sessions, get a tutor, go to lecture!
Dr. Muro is very clear and willing to help you. You have quizzes that will help you to have an idea the how will be the test. She loves teaching chemistry . Don't miss all the extra credit
I really liked Prof Muro. She does a good job explaining material that is hard. She is more than willing to help her students. Be prepared for quizzes and exams. Tough, but if you study you should be okay. Do the extra credits and ALL the homework. Ask questions and don't be intimated. She's cooler than you think lol.
Dr. Muro is a wonderful professor! This is a hard class, but you CAN get an A. Go to class, SI sessions, tutoring. Do all the HW and extra credit and plan on many hours studying outside of class. Dr. Muro makes lecture very interesting. I loved her stories! Don't hesitate to see her during office hours; she's a kind and caring person. LOVE Muro!
Dr. Muro is a great person who wants her students to succeed and provides every opportunity to do so, but you have to work for it. She has clear expectations and does not like excuses. It is fast paced and hard to keep up so studying several hours outside of class is necessary. Do all assignments and extra credit and see her if you have concerns.
Definitely the hardest Orgo you can expected it to be. She teaches well and youll do all the assigned homework and online homework to practice for her exams and quizzes! Not an easy A for sure but definitely doable if you want to work for it! Extra credits and lab work count!
DO NOT SCROLL PAST! If I stop one person from taking a class with Dr. Muro, I will feel like it was worth this post. Save yourself the nightmare of taking a class with her. She is rude to student, not helpful with questions and wont take homework after the first 7 mins of class. Even positive posts on this site tell you she is a harsh grader!
do your self a favor and DO NOT take this class with her...
When she gives lectures she doesn't really explain stuff well. Her tests have things on it that she never covered in class. If you don't understand something then she'll talk to you like your stupid and she'll say things loud enough so that the whole class can hear your conversation. I would not recommend her AT ALL.
When she says she won't ask you to remember something, she will. She admitted she would not make any test/questions easy. Asks very high level questions about things she didnt cover. Even the tutors are surprised by the questions she asks. A lot of homework. Expects you to make your life this class. Worst professor ive EVER had!! Should not teach!!
Dr. Muro is absolutely amazing! She makes a tough subject very doable. This is not an easy A and will require work outside of class. Dr. Muro is good at making lectures understandable and is a bit humorous. This class will develop your time management and study habits.
Dr. Muro is very good teacher. Her lecture is understandable. It is definitely not an easy A. You need to work for it. Yes, there are a lot of homework but it will help you for the final. A lot of extra credits for homework, exams and lab. Make sure you turn in all homework, attend all lab and make sure you follow her instruction!
Do not take her class unless you are good in Chemistry. Her lectures are confusing and her notes are even worse. Her exams are long, so if you are a slow test taker then this class is definitely not for you. If you are shy then I don't recommend asking her a question because she will LOUDLY embarrass you!
I do not think I have ever been more insulted in my life. I am the type of student that has a planner, goes to every SI session, has read my chapters before class, does my homework on time and the one time I stay a couple minutes extra to ask the SI a question I miss her collecting the homework and boom just like that at week 3 I am out of 42pts.
Extremely hard teacher. She teaches useless details. Am straight A student in all my classes, and I failed in her first quiz
I have never been more confused than I have been in this class. There is no organization in the lectures or in her class at all. No due date is certain as we are given a window when something MAY be due but eventually we will find out through d2l. I am at a loss for words for how awful this class is.
absolutely horrible class and the professor is not a good teacher at all, never understand what she is going over. Do not take this class if you are not a pro at chemistry.
Dr Muro is an amazing professor. The comments below mine have probably dropped the class and didnt try. This class is tough... ITS COLLEGE. But if you put in the effort then it is NOT DIFFICULT. SI sessions and tutoring with Moy is very helpful. She is a caring person and will be more than willing to help you out whenever you need.
She is the easdiest chemistry professor there ever was.
She isn't that bad. I like her class.
I loved this class.
If you study do the extra credit attend class then you'll be fine.
FUn and educational class.
Her class Meh.
She taught the class well.
May not have been the best or the easiest but she was good.
She is helpful.
She gives good hints in class.
She was the easiest chem teacher ever.
SHe is alright.
I had to do a lot of studying.
I don't why people hated her she was pretty good.
ALOT OF HOMEWORK! Dr Muro is a lovely lecturer that will help a student out but she is very particular about her grading and teaching system. So basically don't ask redundant questions and listen to what she says.
Although she gives extra credit her exams are still hard.
The lectures were tought but the lab was fine.
She is pretty good.
SHe was rather helpful.
SHe is not too bad for a chem professor.
She is pretty hard.
She is good for chemistry majors.
Dr. Muro is a nice person but she doesn't cover much during the lecture. Often times for the exam I felt she tested us on stuff we never talked about. She's a very picky grader in lab so watch out. Honestly, I would recommend another orgo professor to take.
Had her for Organic 1. The class stared with a full class and ended with 5 students. 3 of the 5 got below a C. Shes out to fail you more than teach you. Do not take her. Extremely prejudice grader and nitpicks everything.
She's a good choice for 1520. The material is difficult but her notes and lectures really break it down for you. There is a lot of homework but doing all of it will make your grade that much better. Has a great sense of humor but it cam be difficult asking questions sometimes. Not understanding material often interpreted as not studying.
Definitely not the easiest but she is very helpful. She made chemistry a lot more tolerable.
Dr. Muro admitted that she is teaching a community college course as if it were a class at the University of Michigan. Thats great if youre majoring in chemistry but for someone going into nothing related to chem its awful. If I wanted the University of Michigan level chemistry class I wouldve taken it there, not at occ.
She isnt a bad person she just is really difficult to deal with. like she gave us a study guide at the beginning of the semester and it basically said in a bunch of words - study. If you want to get a good grade you really have to work for it. She goes off on tangents sometimes and its hard to tell whats a tangent that isnt on the test and what is.
First off, this class is super unorganized. She gives a useless study guide in the early weeks of class. She teaches two chapters ahead before giving you a test. for example, you will learn chapters 5-6 before you take a test on 3-4. She gives homework from D2L, Cengage and handouts which becomes a pain to keep track of. Terrible classwork layout.
For a person with a ADHD this class was a train wreck. There wasn't enough structure to be able to understand what your are learning. She bounces back and forth with concepts which makes it harder to learn. I went to the tutors multiple times during the semester and still struggled with what she was trying to teach. I wish I took a different class
Very enthusiastic about the topic, if you put time in you should pass. Lots of homework, but helps understand material. No textbook, get her printed notes and skim chapters for missing info. Less quizzes than told would happen, labs are simple and easy. If youre an A/B student you should have no problem getting an A.
She was a pretty hard professor, but overall I think she was good. Just get ready for a ton of homework and really study for the exams. She is a really tough grader for Lab, but I can respect that. If you're prepared for the class, you'll pass. But you might want to treat it as if it were two classes. ALWAYS DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!
The only people who passed with an A are the ones who aren't taking any other classes besides this one. HER QUIZZES AND EXAMS ARE ALL WRITTEN RESPONSE AND SHE DOESN'T GIVE PARTIAL CREDIT. Oakland University offers the same class and the professors are easier. Everyone in my class regretted not taking it there instead! DO NOT TAKE HER I WARN YOU!
she is a tough grader and her lecture where very heavy. if you skip a day good luck back on track to much information. she had to rush on the material.
Dr. Muro is passionate about chemistry and is always willing to help you and clarify if you need it. This is a class you have to put a lot of extra time in to understand, I always tried to read the book. She usually gives easier examples during the lecture and the homework is more difficult.
Very hard for an into class. Unless you are a pro at chemistry do not take. The class will exceed intro material and go into harder material. Exams are nothing like homework or what is taught in class. Very nitpicky grader (have amazing handwriting). She must read the book as she doesn't teach everything in class. Even tutors have trouble helping.
All I can say is unnecessary. Everything she does unnecessary. She goes way beyond intro level information and is extremely nitpicky. You can't turn anything in late and she is very very serious about cellphone use during class. She's manageable if you need to take her, but I would avoid it if I were you.
I was very worried when I registered to take CHE1520 with Dr. Muro due to the reviews here. It is a chem class so it's going to take A LOT of studying to do well. But, the tests are multiple choice which helps a lot and she offers a TON of extra credit. Good teacher :) Do all of the homeworks and you'll be fine
Dr Muro is the toughest professor i have ever seen. she is so picky in grading. and her exams are way harder than any questions you will see in books, h.w, etc. besides , even after the COVID-19 situation, she didn't care about her students and what we are going through. she wasn't trying to help us in any way. DON'T TAKE HER! it's overwhelming
She is helpful and gives a fair share of extra credit. You still have to put your best effort to pass though.
She is the rudest professor I have ever had! Completely disorganized, which makes taking an online class harder, and hard to schedule work around. Lectures were 10 hours a week and unnecessary. Unhelpful, I emailed her questions and she literally told me "I can't tell you how to read". Strict, if things aren't done exactly how she wants them, 0%.
This teacher is completely disorganized in regards to so many things, firstly the syllabus that she hands out is equivalent to scrap, you can't understand really trust the syllabus because she doesn't follow it really. Quizzes are quite last minute, exams more of a heads up. Her lectures are sub-par and do not reflect what she expects.
Difficult. Took this 8 week summer class online, only lecture vids. 4 tests, 40 question quiz weekly, 8 labs. Some EC. She tries to be very clear, is admittedly organized, does many example problems, but her style just didn't work for me. I would scour the textbook instead, skip through the vids. Was a little belittling when I emailed questions.
Muro is a tough grader but clearly states what will be graded. I strongly encourage you to use USE the supplemental instruction and set up times, this is great for helo with homework and increasing basic understanding if you struggling with anything. Also form a study group this is very helpful and help me a lot.
Dr. Muro is a tough grader. she literally looking for a mistake to take off points from you. her exams are nothing like the notes . she used to solve the easy questions in lecture and surprises you with hard problems in exams. i used to do EC, going to tutors, study from more than a resource but her class is very overwhelming. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Do yourself a favor and avoid her. her class is very stressful. she gives a lot of h.w that's not even similar to her exams. if U are late 6 minutes, she is not gonna accept the h.w. the effort you make in this class will not be paid off. also, she doesn't post any grades on d2l so it's hard to know your grade because there is online h.w too.
Professor Muro seems like a good teacher but DEFINITELY NOT during this remote learning. She makes you outline the chapter that takes like 3hrs and then watch her boring YT videos also takes like 3hrs. I feel like im doing way more work than i would be doing in class sessions. What's worse is that she makes you cram 3 chapters the week b4 an exam!
she is HORRIBLE! She wants you to know soo much information by yourself. Her few zoom meetings barely help. Her exams dont even allow you to go back to questions and if your late 10 minutes, even if due to computer problems you get a 0%. Highly would not recommend. She needs a new career!
youtube videos from the first semester of quarintine you must view on your own time, there are 4 zooms where you can speak to her but they are useless. She finds every single point remove and the tests are so hard. she says "this is not an intro course" but it is labeled as an intro chem. 3 diff hw sites no duedates sylabus looks like a kids book.
You have to devote SO MUCH TIME to this class! I underestimated that, and somehow I made it out with a decent grade. Best to have a partner (or two) to talk about the material with. Lectures are INSANELY long and have to watch on your own time. Zoom session once a month. Labs will make you second guess yourself, good luck!
Prof Muro is a nice lady, however it seems like she does not want you to succeed. MAKE SURE YOU TURN YOUR FILES IN AS PDF... she will give you a 0. Her teaching is good, but she tries to trick you on HW, quizzes, and exams. She responds quickly, but is not very understanding of situations. It is a HEAVY workload, just be real on top of it
Taking her currently with forced online classes and shes horrible. Rude when replying to emails, doesnt work with you, and the most unorganized teacher Ive ever seen. Lectures are 2 hours with only 15min of actual material. Steer clear of her, easily the worst teacher at OCC.
I would never take this class again, the professor was honestly terrible. The exam count for 64% of your grade and she only gives around a minute per question and you were only allowed to see two questions at a time. She gives no space for students with test anxiety (like myself) and is rude when asked for a different format on the exams.
Fair professor. If you do the work, you will get a good grade. Plenty of time on tests 2 mins per problem each takes no more than 30 seconds. She really cares about her students and is always available.
This professor made everything about chemistry hard. Required too many assignments to be completed along with studying for exams. The exams we impossible considering they weren't related to the course material she provided. Highly recommended finding a different professor.
Professor made class way harder than it had to be. Lots of homework and assignments that didn't even help you learn the material. Exams very hard with little time to complete. A lot of study hours, you can forget about taking another class with hers. It's either her way or the high way. TERRIBLE TEACHER ALL AROUND!!!!! DON'T EVEN DO IT TO YOURSELF
Unless you want to become a chemist, stay far far away from this one. The amount she expects is on the level on an AP Chemistry course. The title "introductory chemistry" is a deceitful and untrue. The only reason this lady has a job is tenure
I took Dr. Muro for introduction to Chem and she was the WORST teacher that I have ever had. It is way more advanced than a intro class. She is very strict on rules in the lab. She is rude and not helpful what so ever. Avoid at all cost!
I'm honestly surprised I ended this class with a B. Her grading criteria is ridiculous. If you turn in an assignment that is not handwritten, she will give you no credit, even if the assignment was done right. One thing I will give her is that she does curve your grade at the end of the semester and offers a ton of extra credit. Overall horrible.
Where do I start. This professor is horrible, she definitely doesnt care about any of the students. As a teacher she is not component at all, she have some videos which doesnt explain much and after that she doesnt answer any question on top of that she gets offended. She gives 2 mins for each multiple choice question unnecessarily tough.
Worst professor ever!! I took her last year online. Class was basically watching YouTube videos and if you ask for her there was 0% help from her. She is rude, unnecessary tough and shows no concern for your struggles. I am glad I dropped her class. Favor yourself and DONT TAKE HER.
Professor Muro gives you the tools to pass the class. She is super cool and makes chemistry interesting and fun.
I don't understand all the 1 ratings. Admittedly, Dr. Muros syllabus was confusing and gave the impression that she would be very demanding, but that did not turn out to be the case. Recorded lectures and live Zoom meetings (I took the class remote) were informative, she was always open to questions, and tests were not overly difficult.
I take intense notes in class as well as do all homework, extra credits, and practice problems. I also read the book and take notes on that. I am easily spending 40 hours a week on this class. despite all this, I still can't get a decent grade. I told her that I was taking other courses with her's and she looked at me and said that I can't do that.
Dr. Muro is an excellent professor. She explains the materials well and willingly answers questions. She encourages class participation and is very approachable. Dr. Muro gives many homework assignments to earn points and offers lots of extra credit opportunities. Chemistry is not an easy course so in order to succeed, be prepared to do the work.
This teacher is completely a disaster.. shes so mean. she doesnt care what u need help. Her exams and quizzes are insane.. she gives out way to much homework she doesnt care if your failing or caring to help she goes on with the rest of the chapter. Even when it comes to grading labs.. I recommend stay far from this teacher.
This professor will grade you with different standards every time and it’ll be difficult to ever get a good grade unless you do everything to the T! Don’t ask any questions because she’ll just be sarcastic and expect you to already know everything. This class is basically self taught.
Hard grader. Very test heavy. Did well in everything else but the tests really and still managed to be difficult to negotiate with. Doesn’t let slower learners take pictures of the board while instructing in class. Very fast and confusing tone in her voice. Difficult overall to get a decent pass grade. Wouldn’t recommend at all
If you want to pass this class, you put in the work. This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken and it requires a lot of studying. It's the type of class where if you think you've studied enough, study more. My biggest recommendation, use the tutors, specifically, Moyra Garretson. She will help you pass this class! She is a huge help.
Chemistry 2 is a tough class no matter the professor, there is a lot of work and you must study more on top of that. Not always keen to answer questions in lab. Tough grader, you lose points for wrong sig figs, on every problem. Do not show up with a bandana for a mask, she says they are not masks, then turns around and says masks are a stressor.
Don't take her classes. 60% of your grade is based on 3 exam grades. She gives no flexibility at all and this class was a nightmare. I constantly got lab reports back saying I got a 50% for the fact that my sig figs were off, the handwriting was messy, etc. She would say in lectures that she wouldn't ask about history in the exams + then do that.
Horrible. The exams are way too hard. Her notes make no sense. The example problems are jumbled together so bad that you can't tell where one starts and where it ends (handwritten by her). Labs are ok however beware of sig figs. She seems to take points off of anything that catches her eye. Exams are just insane. Wait another term take someone else
I think a lot of these reviews are bad just because the content she teaches is difficult. She organizes her class in a way that if you are willing to learn and work really hard, you will pass. Gen chem 1 was really difficult but if you read and prepare in the ways she suggests, you should be able to get by.
Dr. Muro is very direct and knows what she expects for you to succeed in her class. She does a phenomenal job of teaching the material and has her own tutor (Moy, who is amazing). She drops your lowest exam score, 2 lowest lab scores, and gives over 70 points of extra credit. Also, her grading scale is curved up half a point. Work hard=good grade.
Dr. Muro's class is very intense. A lot of people dropped the class because they weren't willing to put in the work required for the course. She is nit picky with grading, one time I got half a point off for shortening a long title on a lab report. She makes labs stressful by constantly reminding us that we're running out of time.
This class... where to begin. Muro is an EXTREMELY tough grader. She is strict. This was by far the hardest course i have ever taken in my life without a doubt. Shes a great lecturer, clear with grading criteria and gives exam point extra credit which was a god sent for me. But my god, the work, the reading, the exams, the lab, it was hard.
Dr. Muro is a tough grader but she if fair. Sometimes the online homework didn't line up with the homework she made so the content would contradict. The only way I passed this class was by attending the extra class sessions held by Moy and creating study groups. I suggest working with other classmates on homework and studying for exams.
The reason people have given Dr. Muro negative ratings is 100% because they are not willing to put in the work. This class is tough but if you put in the time there is no reason you can't pass with an A. Muro is clear of her expectations and offers a TON of extra credit. Study and consider a tutor. Dr. Muro is great. Wish I could take her again.
I am selling the book and access code, the book is bring new never been opened or touched, for CHEM 1320 organic and biological chemistry
Prof Muro is a GREAT professor who teaches difficult subjects. She is responsive and willing to admit mistakes. Classes require homework, lab reports, and several hours of practice at home. She is clear in her explanations and will offer many extra resources including tutors and an SI. I've taken her twice CHEM 1320/1000 and plan to take more.
Professor Muro is a knowledgeable professor, chemistry is hard. She offers ample extra credit assignments. Tests are weighted as 64% of your total grade so don't take this class thinking it's an easy ride. The online HW platform needs to be updated.
Professor Muro is experienced at her job, but I was disappointed she lectured word for word right from her notebook packet, which all students were required to buy. I wish she had performed examples step by step on the board. I learned 85% of the course on my own. The class was not super test heavy but exceedingly homework heavy.
Professor Muro was a struggle to get through. She was the toughest grader, most work, and least helpful teacher I've had at OCC. Don't recommend I and a lot of us only barely scraped by
Lectured directly word for word from notes. Tests are weighted heavily in final grade and there will be no outline or study guide for them.
Dr. Muro is the best professor I have ever had. She is passionate about what she is teaching and it shows in lecture and lab! She took the time to personally make lecture notes, she takes extremely difficult concepts and makes them easy to understand so long that you put in the effort! I can't say enough positive things about her!
Dr. Muro gives lots of extra credit opportunities along with everyone getting half of a letter grade increase. Attendance was very important, she likes to follow rules very strictly. Not very understanding if you miss class, but she does drop one exam and two lab grades. Personally, she wasn't my favorite professor but she's not the worst either.
I was hospitalized due to a life threatening situation and the professor refused to offer a simple extension on a low point homework assignment. Keep in note my other professors did but she did not. She thinks she is above everyone else because she has a doctorate but all she does is recite the notes from the book. She knows nothing.
Terrible. I dropped this class within a month. Her lectures dont teach anything and you are expected to teach yourself. If you ask a question she will get mad at you. I dropped this class 2 years ago and had to write a review because of the nightmares I have of this lady. Still imagine arguments in the shower with her. TERRIBLE
I had Dr. Muro for survey to organic and biochemistry. I knew this was going to be a hard class. But Dr. Muro made it the best possible for us. She gave quizzes for low points so that you could see what some portions of the exams may look like. Offers quite a bit of extra credit throughout the semester. She was always available outside of class.
General Chemistry is a tough class as it is, full of lots of material. Muro cares and when you go to office hours she is there to actually help. The first half of the semester is very content heavy. It is a weed out class for sure. There is so much extra credit offered in the class. Just take advantage of it and you will be able to pass with a B.
PROFESSOR MURO IS AWESOME! Read the chapters assigned BEFORE lecture and do the textbook problems it will help SO MUCH. I took her gen chem 1 class at night and it was really great, and I'd defo take her again. 4 exams, lowest grade is dropped (no cumulative final) + 11 labs, 2 lowest grades dropped + homework assignments (lots of extra credit)
Dr. Muro's personality is definitely an acquired taste. I did not like her in the beginning, as she presents as arrogant, critical, and strict. She does have very high expectations but it's because she wants to see her students succeed. That said, she has a ton of opportunities to earn points, including extra credit and she drops an exam and 2 labs
Respectfully the worst professor I've ever had. Doesn't teach at all and expects her students to teach themselves the material. At this level of science, that's impossible. It's completely understandable have your students read the book, however, you should be teaching along with that since we PAY for this class and to go to your lectures.
Professor Muro is a tough but fair instructor. Her class requires consistent effort, but she provides great resources like extra tutoring and a generous grading scale. I found unstuck study really helpful for test prep alongside the textbook and study groups.
Professor Muro is a tough professor teaching a tough class. I think she does an excellent job presenting the materials and I thought her lectures were interesting. There is a lot of homework in this class but she drops the lowest grades for labs and a test. She also has office hours that you should take advantage of to succeed. Great class.
This class is very difficult but fair in some aspects. 4 exams but one is dropped and extra credit is provided + an overall class curve. VERY difficult grader so simple mistakes such as spelling errors can significantly reduce your grade. Take advantage of tutoring as they will help teach additional concepts that Dr. Muro doesn't cover in class.
She has each student read the whole chapter on their own before learning in class. Any assignment that is missing units or has wrong sig figs is automatically points off. Homework takes a long time to finish especially the homework quizzes that are 40-60 questions long. Extra credit is put in each chapter and all the lectures are important.
The semester started out great. You have to memorize EVERYTHING! There is no compassion from her. If you have an issue its YOUR issue and she does not care. She's unorganized and will hand out a million pieces of paper every lecture that you're expected to keep track of. Homework was on Cengage AND the OCC page and the due dates are not consistent.
Dr. Muro dissuaded students from using gloves in lab despite working with 10% H2O2, strong HC2H3O2, and other hazardous solutions. She didn't enforce lab eyewear policies consistently. She refused to help students locate lab supplies. She reprimanded students for showing up on time to a lab which she'd begun it early. Would not trust for advanced.
I had no chemistry background before this class. I transferred to UM, and did great in my gen chem + orgo classes there solely because of the preparation from this class. Do the textbook problems, read before lecture, and show up prepared! She gives every resource, but if you slack off or fall behind you will fail. Excellent lectures, on-topic hw.
Organic Chemistry is hard to learn and would be hard with any Prof. Dr Muro knows this and expects you to work hard outside of class because that is the only way to learn organic chemistry so keep that in mind. She drops an exam and offers extra credit and she leads a great lab. I couldn't ask for anything else.
Professor told student that they do not belong in the course. Professor has no compassion, doesn't care. Professor gets frustrated and angry quite easily, was seen shouting and speaking in a rude tone to students. Does not have patience to go in depth to material, instead relying on students to do so.
I dropped out of this class like a year ago and I found an old syllabus and got an instant reminder of how bad of a nightmare having this professor was. I literally had covid , could've even move from my bed without being in pain and she still would not let me make up anything in the class. I dropped the class for multiple reasons, this being one
Do not take this professor. This professor, I felt, was very unapproachable as she wouldn't allow students to ask her questions after or durning class, you could only ask questions via email or office hours. Her grading is tough and most learning is independent. She was rude towards students, especially in lab.
Muro was very unapproachable and impatient. She was rude and dismissive towards me and other students. If you take her class, expect a ton of independent learning. She wouldn't answer questions before and after class. Her lectures aren't very useful because she loves to tell stories.
This professor is one of the hardest professors you will ever experience!!! She will tell you to your face that you do not belong. She will constantly refer to Chem 1000 with the expectation that you already understand the material. More so, be ready to teach yourself!
