We just didn't design as much as other fashion design classes I have taken. You do lots of collages and writing. I probably would not take this class again.

Only reason I took this class is to learn PHOTOSHOP and ILLUSTRATOR. The PAD system is interesting, but honestly she does not know how to use it. If you have patience and want to learn pad, photoshop and illustrator, take the class.
Take this class as a stand alone, you do not get much one on one instructor time because their are other classes at the same time. I am so glad this is being offered at this college!

Take this class, Prof. knows Photoshop and Illustrator she used it to for freelance.
I like Ms. Young. But her flat pattern class is confusing. She goes by the book and copies whatever the book tells her to do. And sometimes that can be confusing. I would rather her teach us how to measure someone. Take their measurements and then make a pattern out of it. I still haven't learned anything from her class.

Renee Young is one of THE worst professors at Fullerton College. It is a shame that she is in charge of the entire program. Had her for my first fashion related course and she had us buy a 50$ text book that we only opened ONCE! Bad attitude, doesn't clarify assignments, STAY AWAY if she teachers a course.

I respect her for having a business at some point in her life but, I don't necessarily approve of her professionalism as an instructor. She tends to take out her stress on her students often raising her voice. She is a bit vague from time to time. Although she may be a bit intimidating, don't be afraid to ask for your future's sake.
FASH 209 F Great class, lectures are very clear, she has a great voice and treats students with respect. Keeps us on point with us as a large group.
Professor Young is a amazing teacher. She is stress free and we enjoy her as a instructor!
Not the best class to take with her. A very informative class however, a very rushed one too. Vague from time to time. BUT very easy assignments, exams and most of all a very lenient grader. Test are not a problem because she reviews tests REALLY well. Assignments can go either way, in other words, really good or busy work, no in between.

Disorganized, impatient and takes out her frustration on her students. Her demos are unclear and she gives you attitude if you don't understand. She made the course material way more difficult and stressful than it had to be. She was just overall very unpleasant. It's a shame you can't really avoid taking her as a fashion major.
Has attitude. Grading is ridiculous, she marked down a garment by 13.5 b/c she couldn't see the seam finishes in the photos. Graded an assign. that was to see how a garment looked "so far" to a 50% b/c the zipper wasn't how she wnted it. After I replied to the comment, she regraded and gave me a 0%. She thinks b/c she's the teacher, shes 100% right
Love Professor Young. I took FASH 101 Beginning sewing. I like the way her videos were and how she would give you her feedback and points while you were making the garment. Then she would adjust the points when you turned in the finished garment. I grew alot as a beginner sewer.

Maintains a passive aggressive attitude, no breaks, and youre not allowed to talk with others after her lecture. You will feel like you are back in grade school and will be degraded. Shes unorganized and has no passion with teaching. She gets annoyed if youre confused with her demos or if you have go to the restroom while shes doing a demo.
internship class, emails were not sent to me so I couldn't prepare accordingly. No solid communication regarding 3rd parties, and quality was very poor. Class allowed for more time to meet deadlines, however instructor had a sense of urgency that was not needed.

VERY passive aggressive. She subbed a few classes while our usual professor was out, and her attitude resulted in me feeling embarrassed to ask questions! Instead of helping the class/students with projects step by step, or offering for help, she demos the entire first half of the class and expects everything to soak in. Snaps at you for chatting

I took her online class 186 the amazing lectures, and the step-by-step of how to draw was very detailed and certainly understood. Canvas was used for this class, which makes it easy because you can listen to lectures and submit work anytime of the day.
Changed my entire major because of Professor Young since she teaches most of the fashion courses at Fullerton. Makes you feel like you're in middle school again and is honestly the one of the worst teachers I have ever had. For a 4 hour lecture/lab there was also no break and her grading/lectures were super confusing don't recommend taking her.
Bad at teaching and disrespectful. She makes everyone buy a $150 pattern making kit, no other will be acceptable. We are half-way done with our course, and all we have done so far was copy basic bodice and skirt patterns from a book, with no understanding how to adapt them to different real-people sizes,how to sew them together or manipulate darts.
Love this patternmaking class we're learning so much and we're doing the basic foundations. Now we're on manipulation of darts. Can't wait to take her other classes. Can't wait to make my own patterns for myself.
Taking pattern and alterations this semester. We're learning how to fit ourselves and make patterns. We can see other students in the class and how to fit their body types. I'm so excited professor Young is a real professional.
This is an online course and she doesn't know how to use canvas at ALL. It is disorganized, chaotic, very difficult to navigate. Provides the most unclear, confusing directions I've ever seen from a professor. Misunderstand the confusing directions, and you will get a ZERO. Don't take this course. You will have an awful, stressful, time.
If I could rate this professor a ZERO instead of a one I would. Provides extremely unclear instructions and when asked about it is condescending. Multiple assignments are confusing and directions don't make sense at all. This professor also does not understand how to use Canvas, modules and assignments are extremely disorganized.
Awful teacher. Rude & condescending when you ask her a simple question, & is also just straight up not good at teaching. She takes a simple concept & makes it extra confusing/time consuming. It felt like my technical skills were regressing in her class bc of how confusing & unapproachable she was. Requires expensive ($200+) supplies for her class

Pattern and alteration classes so much fun you get to see other students garments on them and try to alter them. I look forward to next semester.

I have no clue how people are saying this professor is great and how they like how she teaches. Her canvas page is disorganized and she is not good at teaching at all. She is condescending if you ask her simple questions.
I took three of her fashion classes, 2 in person and 1 online. As a teacher she's supposed to teach you because that's her job, but gets annoyed when you don't understand something or ask questions. She's very rude and condescending when asking for help and takes long explaining instructions or information. Save yourself please.
Professor Young is a knowledgeable and caring instructor. The class is engaging, and the workload is manageable if you stay on top of it. Unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the textbook.

horrible professor, outdated material. I could fall asleep in her class all she does is talks and talks with no real course outline/curriculum. Took this fashion design class with a different professor that ACTUALLY taught me the steps of fashion design. With Renee she hops all over the place and her class is just delayed suffering.

This is my very first semester here at Fullerton College, and I look forward to something taking me out every day. Professor Young is the reincarnation of the Devil. I wish I were joking. PLEASE, WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH RENEE YOUNG. YOU WILL DESPISE HER WITH EVERY FIBER OF YOUR BEING.
Coming from other students, there are moments where she has said inappropriate things to other students. She is very disorganized and very condescending. Everything I would ask a question she wouldn't even answer it but rather repeat the same part of the syllabus I had a question on. Makes you buy expensive material.
This woman is absolutely deranged. She seems nice but quickly turns that around. Doesn't use canvas so good luck ever finding out your grade! Claims she's “not paid to teach two classes” aka she's lazy and doesn't want to publish grades. So many lengthy demos you have to stand around her to watch. Condescending, vague, and almost downright awful.
Similar to other student experiences she's very disorganized online as much as she is in person. Her assignment instructions are vague and have no clear structure, you never know what you submitted is good until she grades it and leaves a comment. Nitpicky for no reason, presentations are unhelpful. Class is doable but her teaching is not it.
This is just an overall statement to those thinking on taking a fashion class with Ms. Young. Don't. Just don't. I have no idea who 85% of these bots are that say she's a great teacher who gives amazing lectures when she doesn't. I do think she has a passion for fashion but when people get to a certain age they should just stop teaching.
Professor Young has been the worst professor I've had at my time at Fullerton College. She has NO CANVAS COURSE, so be prepared to have piles of papers in your backpacks, with impossible information to collect when assignments are created. Many, many spelling errors in assignments too, if that matters to some. Young can be intimidating at times!
