Passed her 111 class without too much trouble but 112 was a whole other can of worms. she has a very prounced accent, Indian, and has a tendency to yell at students as though she were teaching a grade-school class.
she is very very intellectual professor and will expect you to be smart and aware in return...if you are a science major and are planning to actually learn then you must take this class...other wise if you planning to "bs" then dont bother
She is graet Take her and you won't regrete
She is the BEST!! of all chemistry teachers. someone left a comment about her yelling at students, this is bs. if you ask a stupid question, like "whats my name", your gona get what you disserve. you will walk out of savkar's class you'll know that you are ahead of almost all the other chem students in other classes. She WILLNOT!! give you ur grade
She is the best their has ever been. you can tell when a person is doing exactly what they were ment to do. you dont have to believe me, try her class and she for your self. p.s. she only teaches at Annandale.
She is the worst professor i have ever had a NOVA. And i have had great professors who are intellectual and willing to help. I am a very hard worker and determined, but when i asked for help, she said i can't help you unless you know what the problem is. Hello!we entered the class to learn!!Dnt take her!!!!!!
Lot of time committment. She likes to stick with the schedule listed. Difficult to understand given thick accent and extremely high pitched voice. Watch taped lectures at own deafness. if only poss. to take her voice down a few octives. Overall, nice, helpful, and friendly. Ask questions and persist. Fair grader. Extra credit opportunities.
she is the best professor ever!!!!!!!!!
she likes to teach her student all the aspects of chemistry in our daily life.i like her and i wish if she is teaching organic chemistry in order to be the first one who will sign for her class. the best professor ever at NVCC
what a rude f**king professor! she talks to her students as if they're her grandchildren. she is an extremely demending person, and not everyone can stand her high pitch voive! however her teaching style is very organized and easy to understand. if you like to be treated like a 4th grader, then she's the right one for you! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!!!
I totally agree with the comment below. she talks everyone down and makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. do yourself a favor and take someone other than her!
chemistry is a challenging class but Dr. Savkar is excellent at teaching it. she explains concepts clearly and she will help you individually if you ask her. offers an extra credit assignment (most people will need it). highly recommended.
She is demanding and does talks you down. But most science teachers are like that and believe me she's the best one. You just need to keep up with the many assignments and homework and you'll be fine. If you need the class and can handle a little "let down" then I highly recommend her.
her tests are hard as hell..have twenty something cretical + work out questions. She expects u to finish in an hour or so. When u ask her question, she makes u look like an idiot. Just remember not to bother asking her bc u'll wasting ur time. She'll make u answer urself. Her grading is weird huge assigment worth like 10 points n easy one worth 50
may you rot in hell savkar! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE teacher. keeps u till the last minute of lab even tho u finish early. exams are hard n she never tells u wat is on da test. wen u ask her wat is on it she says "we are here to learn, everything i say will b on da test" stupid ****! she is on her period 24/7 PLEASE every1 dnt take her! ps she is crazy!
IF U COME LATE SHE YELLS BUT YET SHE KEEPS YOU LATER THAN THE CLASS ENDS. N SHE STAYS ****IN ABOUT CLASS STARTS 930 N ENDS 1045. DATS Y SHE KEEPS U TILL 11. HORRIBLE TEACHER. DO NOT TAKE HER OR ELSE HER VOICE WILL MAKE U KILL URSELF. VERY HARD N NEVER HAS A REVIEW ON NE THING FOR THE EXAM. N WAT SHE TEACHES U IS NEVER ON THE EXAM. DONT TAKE HER!!!
She is one scary person. If you're confuse and ask her a question and she ask you back the same question telling you that she already went over it. She needs to know that we are here to learn, she's there to teach not to insult us. I want to learn, but everytime she yells at anyone, you just want to walk out of the class.
I don't know what everyone is talking about. Everything she goes over is on the test, and they are not hard at all if you study what she goes over and do the homework. The only thing I agree about is when you ask her a question, she makes you feel stupid.
This class by far was my biggest mistake I've made at NVCC. She talks down on her own students and extremely inconsiderate of them. She is very demending and picky. Her tests are super hard and many do not finish on time. Please find another professor to study under. If you do not mind being treated like a kid, then you nay be okay. NOT RECOMMENDED
One of the worst professor at NVCC. Dont even bother taking her she will fail you no matter how much effort u put on that stupid class
Lets just make it simple for you all, she is a ****........... dont even bother taking a class with her. DON'T TAKE HER
She is so rude! You can't even ask a question or she will put you down and you will feel like an idiot for the rest of the day. I just wanted to walk out of the class a few times. But she is still better than any of the other chemistry professors at NOVA. If you take her STUDY from the beginning.
She is the best chemistry teacher I had in Annandale, if you study from the beginning and read the book then you may get an A in her class, that is if you study hard, she gives more time to complete an assigment if you cannot make it, she is very enthusiastic but if you make a simple mistake she would treat u as if u made a huge mistake.
Savkar is a GREAT professor! i aced her class easily.she wants all of her students to do very very well. she's the BEST professor i've ever had. i got an A in chm111 and a B in 112. i didn't turn in a few assignments. but get good grades on the tests and you'll get an A. just be on her good side :) i LOVE HER. i wish she'd teach all my chem classes
Well She was not the teacher I thought she would be. She is nice but hard. Her labs are okay and they could be fun if you have a cool lab group. Exams are hard if you don't study or do the homework. Her lecture is very confusing. I had to sign up for a tuitor to be able to understand her. I recommend if u wanna pass don't take her.
Savkar is a good teacher. But she is very hard! her exams are super critical thinking but if u work and read the chap you can get a decent grade. And sometimes when u ask her a question she ask you back the same question.lol. she is always available in office.
She is hardest prof that I've ever had. She takes as many points off as possible if u make some little mistakes. She's got easily frustrated if u ask her questions. Don't ever take her class if u wanna know about chem and don't want nightmares. Her tests aren't hard on the work-out part but mutliple choices are very tricky. Hard tests in short time
YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY YOU HAVE SAVKAR BECAUSE WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE BENEBERU!!! HE IS 200% MORE, RUDE, GRADING ON WHETHER HE LIKES YOU OR NOT, INTIMIDATING, DID I MENTION RUDE!!! HE THINKS EVERYONE IS AN IDIOT, EXCEPT HIM, AND DOESNT TEACH WELL, AND HAS HORRIBLE GRADING TACTICS!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE BENEBERU!!!!
I had her for CHM 111&112. She'd answer your questions if you ask the right way. It is kind of tricky. It's not impossible to have 100 on her tests. Very organized lecture. Labs are fine. I hope she could teach CHM 241, too.
HORRRRRRRRRRRRRIBBBBLEEEEE vert mean and makes you feel so stupid. do not take her class if you have the chance!
Hard to understand when she talks. She makes her class harder than it's suppost to be.NOt very organized. Also very rude when you make a mistake in her lab.
HORRIBLE. absolutely horrible. She treats you like you are in grade school and doesn't care to give you a decent answer to your questions. hard to understand, speaks fast, looses you in the lectures. Do yourself a favor - FIND ANOTHER CHEM TEACHER.
Horrible, horrible, horrible teacher. worst teacher ever! I deeply regret taking her. if somebody makes a mistake or doesn't understand something, she yells at the person, embarasses him in front of everyone else. she also has an annoying accent. if you have no option other than her, i strongly recommend you to take it next semester.
Wow, if you don't understand Chemistry, this is not the teacher to take. She expects everyone to understand Chemistry on her level. She is rude, and doens't mind calling people out when you don't know the answer. And her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. There is SO much work in this class, and she's a very hard grader.
The material is hard. It is intro chemistry for science majors and at times Prof. Savkar is not at all clear in her instructions. However, she does not grade too hard and if you hand in your work with a reasonable degree of effort you can get an A.
Dr. Savkar is very good and knows her subject very well. If you are planning to know chmistry, do not mind lots of work, and you are good at reading the text, she will do the rest. Show your interest in chem and do the work on time and you have an A. Tests are not hard, just study. Chem is hard, so do not expect very easy A, but it is very possible
Professor is not helpful at all, wants to run by her will, very stubborn, boring class, did not learn anything.
I don't think I've ever had a more skilled professor than Reva Savkar. College Chemistry is a difficult subject, and is an acid test for ability in the sciences; no matter where you go the subject is notorious for its difficulty. I learned a great deal from Professor Savkar. She is a skilled lecturer, repeats key points, and keeps you focused.
I loved Prof. Savkar. Chemistry is difficult, and CHM 111 is a tough class. But she made it very interesting and I fell in love with chemistry. You have to study very hard to do well, including lots of homework, but she rewards good work and it is not hard to get an A. She is very passionate about her subject; you have to love that in a teacher.
Ms. Savkar is the best chemistry teacher in Nova. She is very help full if you need help. Evenif she doesn't answer your question directly she let you to think about it so you can understand it better. her Exams are very easy. Overall she is the best teacher!!!
She was pretty hard before the withdrawal date. This was only because she was trying to weed out the people who didn't want to do their work, or were going to waste her time. After this, she was easy as heck. WEAR YOUR GOGGLES.
Horrible teacher! DONT take her.
Loves to go off on tangents about unrelated things like "being studious" and "speaking politely". These go on for 15 minutes at a time. Makes heavy use of the online chem assignments, which don't relate at all to the book, which she bases the tests on. Generally difficult to understand. Take Biology instead.
Her teaching style is unique in her own way. Explains everything very clearly. Tests were relatively easy IF you pay attention to what she is teaching... and no she doesnt look for ways to drop your grade. Take this teacher if you want to learn chemistry.
I think I never understood Chemistry quite well enough until I took Professor Savkar's class. I had my basic concepts, and she strengthened them. She's wonderful at explaining, gives excellent examples--you'll want to take notes more to have this for forever than to study for for tests. If you want to learn, take her to learn from the best.
Strict teacher, hard grader, and unreal homework and tests. She makes chemistry so much harder than it has to be. I took her course and got an D. Then retook it at Alexandria campus with 112 and earned A's in both. Regardless of what I got don't be fooled her grading is what will kill your grades. Her explanations are punishment, lasting 10 minutes
I took the class ELI. Professor Savkar is a good teacher, but they really should rerecord the tapes. They are blurry. Otherwise, good class. Not easy, but good.
She was one useless hardest teacher I've ever taken. She wastes our time by lecturing useless information that doesn't even apply to the class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Hello I just want to let you guys know that she is the best chemistry professor I have ever had. let me tell you why because right now i am taking organic chemistry in ASU university and whatever she thought in general chemistry is still in my mind. She made me work hard through this course but I think it was worth it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS.THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT COURSE AND LABS ARE A PAIN. THIS CLASS MADE ME HATE CHEMISTRY. IF YOU HAVEN'T TAKEN CHEMISTRY FOR A WHILE, THEN THIS ISN'T THE CLASS FOR YOU. IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS BUT IT IS VERY HARD ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE GOT OTHER CLASSES. WARNING THIS CLASS WILL KILL YOUR GPA I PROMISE.
save yourself while you can. if you want a decent grade then take it with another professor. Take this class if you want to do a lot of reading and take hard tests (2-3 chapters jammed in) based off useless lectures then by all means go ahead. just remember to withdraw while you can because half your class will have.
I took both 111 and 112 with her and I got A's. She is hard as well as her tests, but if you study and do the homework, you'll be fine. She is the best chm professor in NOVA. She explains everything clearly and expects the students to learn seriously. Highly recommended
Savkar is a GREAT teacher. She dosen't test you on anything she doesn't teach you in class. Be responsible; you'll learn, and you'll do well. HOWEVER: if you're not the type of person who can let things roll off your back, keep steppin'. I've seen her yell at students like they're dogs who just messed on an antique rug. She has a terrible temper.
DO NOT TAKE THIS . if you havent taken chemistry in a while i do not reccommend you take her, i havent taken it since freshmen year of high school and this did not help. she 's very strict in lab and basically makes you feel stupid in front on the entire class for asking one question. she has a short temper and will talk to you like you're a child
I would not recommend this professor..actually you should try and take someone else. I took this class over the summer and we had AT LEAST one test a week..sometimes even two. I never had anytime to study because of the weekly tests, homework, and labs. It was the worst class I have taken at NOVA.
She is an awesome teacher! She is very clear on what she wants you to know and learn and there are NO surprises on tests or quizzes. As long as you do your work and come prepared, chemistry will not be a problem. She genuinely cares that you are learning and understand the material. Offers lots of extra credit too. Best chem teacher at nova!
Professor Savkar is a GREAT teacher. She is very thorough, so she's hard, but she is also very encouraging and will help students who seek it. Attendance is a must, as well as participation, and above all, be respectful - she is very strict on manners so no hats, cover your mouth when you yawn, don't "lounge" in class...
Don't take her online class... It's extremely difficult and she doesn't reply to email.
stay away of her if you can.she teaches very clear and tell you what she wants from you since very first moment. she is extremly annoying and high temper.her exams are OK but she gives you just 50 min for atleast 25 questions. you can get an A but you have too kill yourself. she MUST participate in lecture. her labs are easy though.
Do not take her online class. Multiple problems with test-taking. One time, all my work was lost when I hit save. When I went in to finish the test, Dr. Savkar was extremely rude and condescending, told me I "didn't know how to follow instructions and succeed in college". Hah, I have my BSN in nursing with honors! Save yourself the headache!
she is very tough. not her test but her personality. very high temper. u MUST attend her class and participate. very strict but she teaches cery GOOD and clear. final is just 2 chapters and thats very good. labs are very easy and she is very helpfull. the only problem is she does not give you more than 1 hour for exams. but again a lot of guy got A
She is thurough, but she goes on 4ever about redundant things such as cheating (of course we know not to cheat)She contradicts herself, tells u not 2 miss class but she canc.'d a lab. She stresses "one person talks @ a time" yet she cut me off while asking a quest & gave me the wrong answer She's rude,& her class is bland.
to start of, i do not recommend this teacher. just dont take her, trust me your not gonna enjoy the class at all, but good luck if you do take her class:) God be with you
Don't take her!!she is smart and knows alot, but she doesn't know how to teach. The online homework's waste of time, she doesn't teach anything relevant to the homework.Alot of students dropped her class, she still doesn't get it.I got good grade in her class, but i worked hard to earn that grade, save yourself money and time and find someone else :)
I would recommend taking her class because you will leave at the end of the semester with a knowledge of chemistry. Her teaching style may not be for everyone--she is very strict and requires preparation before each class. But if you apply yourself and work hard, your effort should pay off. Be ready to get a little frustrated though...
Has flexible deadlines, will give extension if you ask for it, always available if you have a question or need something re-explained. Need to attend classes to understand course material properly, and asking questions can be a bit daunting at first; but she'll go over it slowly if you ask.
I took an online course with Prof. Savkar, overall I didn't have much interaction with the professor but when I did she was helpful and very quick to respond. She has clear lecture slides for her course which were extremely helpful, I mainly used these instead of the textbook. The exams are straightforward if you follow her lecture slides.
She knows the material and encourages students. She also holds office hours, grades fairly as well. She has got very good skill to explain the subject in a simple way, which will make any student comfortable and confident about the subject. The text book and the online home works helped me a lot to excel in the subject. Highly recommend this Prof.
Well structured course, professor quickly responds to emails and is always ready to answer even the toughest ones. Also, as a previous reviewer mentioned, she is flexible if unavoidable situations occur. I would take another course with her as the professor.
Clear lectures, helpful way of explaining everything. Also enjoyed the homework system. Extremely helpful if you are having any problems, she will be flexible with deadlines. The tests are tough, you will not get an A on her tests if you aren't comfortable with the material.
If you are looking for an easy A; she is not the professor for you. However if you are looking to learn the material and are willing to put some effort into the class she is a great professor for that. She is very nice, will give an extension to just about all assignments, and the worst thing I can say is that she over explains things.
Prof. Savkar was VERY helpful! I mean she would respond to my emails in just 1-3 hours! Is not it amazing? And all her answers were very clear to me. I loved chemistry after her class. By the way, I took it 100% online, and communication is a very important part of the teaching process. And Prof. Savkar made the excellent job!
Guys, if you are looking for knowledge than Prof. Savkar is the right teacher. She is very clear, explains everything in very understandable manner. Responded very quickly to my emails. I would definitely take another class with her! Unfortunatly, I needed only CHM111 for my major. +10 out 10!!!
I took CHM101 as an online class with Prof Savkar and certainly got everything from the material and the instructor that I needed. Prof Savkar is approachable and helpful.
Prof. Savkar clearly loves her job. She cares a great deal about her students. She is EXTREMELY helpful during office hours and encourages questions during class. You need to do all of the practice problems ans go over your notes, if you do you will be fine. I highly recommend her.
Prof Savkar is a very niceteacher who really cares about her students. I must say it's not an easy class, there's a lot of homework but she explains everything very clearly. her tests are from class lectures and textbook sample problems. again, it's not an easy A. you'll have to learn the material and put effort into the class.
Professor Savkar has a genuine interest in her subject area. She wants her students to succeed, and is very understanding when it comes to individual's situations. If you ask her for help, or for an extension on an assignment, she is more than willing to accomodate you. She is a professor best suited to those who truly want to learn.
She is unhelpful and doesn't provide study guides. Makes an online course not very online friendly and then complains that grading is challenging..
I took Prof Savkar's class online in an 8-week format. I'm smart and disciplined, but the class was TOUGH. To get an A, I had to truly study the textbook and do all of the homework. She is nice in person, but she answered only about half of my emails. She grades fairly, but don't expect her to hold your hand or spoon-feed the material to you.
I took Savkar's 8-week online CHM112 course. Overall it was a tough course being that it was accelerated and online. By all means though, it was manageable. She was unbelievably helpful (if you made the effort to meet with her). I would recommend taking her class if you're willing to actually take the time to learn the material. No stress.
Prof. Savkar, is a great professor that likes her students to learn. She is like a mom behind everyone. She is happy when her students succeed and try. If you go for help individually, and she sees the effort that you are doing, she considers that a lot for participation points.
I took her online course. I emailed and posted to blackboard and still had no reply to my questions weeks later. I also know that other students had this difficulty as well.
Professor Savkar gives you every opportunity to succeed and get a high mark. She expects a lot out of you on the exams, but nothing more than I would say is appropriate for this type of class. Follow her instructions on how much to study, study hard, take advantage of extra credit, and ask her questions when you need to do so.
Prof. Savkar is a great professor. She is like a mom as said before. She is always behind students so that they can do their best. Is a really tough class, but she is always there to help.
Took her online. I got full points for all the labs I turned in. The quizzes are taken on computer. Pretty nice b/c u get two tries for the quiz, so if u didn't u do well on ur first one, u can still make up for it. Best thing about her is that she let's u drop ur lowest test grade. So, u can skip a test if did well on the others.
A good teacher, but also crazy. She told us that she expects "40 hours plus" studying at home and has a quiz every class as well as some quizzes online. If you are caught cheating, she fails you for the entire course no matter what. Using anything on your calculator besides basic functions is cheating (i.e. no temp. converter on calc etc)
I took it online. If you are okay to get C, take this course. She is not online-friendly. You have to do all the work and if you mess up exams, A is gone. Grading portion of exam is too high so exams are important. I would not take her ever again. But I passed tho
I think she might be a good teacher, but didn't work out for me.
Prof. Savkar's intentions are in the right place, but egotistical and maniacal behavior make her hard to like. She often nudges at her prior successes in order to "prove" how qualified she is as a teacher and scientist. Expect an enormous amount of repetition in both routine and lecture. High pitched accent is somewhat bearable (3 hour lectures)
Contradicting person.. She doesn't want you reading from the txtbook while she lectures, then next minute expects you to whip out the book and read from it. Has high expectations; read material ahead of time. If you don't get the material learned that class period by the next class, she gets cranky. Also talks too much. *EXPECT A QUIZ EVERY CLASS.
She demands so much work from students but at the same time she is very helpful and if you do whatever she wants you too you will get a good grade in her class. Students usually dont like her because they dont know how to deal with her. She is very helpful and responds to ur emails ASAP. I recommend her strongly if u want to learn.
She is a great teacher but she is not easy. You will need to put in the work. She does give a couple of extra credit assignments. There are a lot of in class and online quizzes. You will have to work for an A but you will appreciate how much chemistry you know after it is all said and done. She is really inspirational.
She usually not answers emails right away and takes forever to post the score from the tests. It seems we are alone and there is no professor to help. I am taking online class and have received one email in almost two months.
She may be great in-person, but is the worse online teacher I've ever had. Quizzes and tests didn't reflect the readingstudy material. She took 3+ days to email back (& offers nothing more than "study the chapter); she took weeks to return scores. She expects 30+ hours a week studying. More than half our class dropped. Avoid if at all possible.
READ THE FINE PRINT. I got a B in the class, but almost failed because my quiz average was below 60. The fact that I didn't, however, means that she does value learning over strict rules. The tests don't really reflect the quizzes very much, but they're not terribly difficult. I took CHM 111 with her. Just don't miss a lab or quiz and you're good.
I took her for chem 112 online over the summer. This was a 7 week course that was so much in such a small amount of time. As our only communication was via email, she took a very long time to respond and when she did it was almost like she never read it and she is only available wends. The tests were difficult. Don't take chemistry online!
Despite her extremely high voice, she still manages to be one of the most boring professors I've had. Get ready to take annoying breaks from note-taking as she will stop and say something about how what she is saying is right (is she telling us or herself?). Also a the more heavily-graded quizzes are online. Might as well be a hybrid course.
I'll admit that she's intelligent and passionate about teaching chemistry. However, she is extremely rude and tried to humiliate me in front of class. I made a small mistake in lab and she asked me and my lab partner if we did not know how to read and asked us to read out loud the label on this bottle of chem solution we were using for the lab.
I'm surprised at the ratings this professor has. I find her to be extremely passionate about teaching and really interested in student's progress. She gives feedback if you want it after each exam and is available for in person help for hybrid or online courses. If you follow her directions, there is no way you can fail.
She is a nice person but a really bad teacher. She gets rude at times during labs, and overall does not know how to teach. She know what she is talking about, but her way of teaching is awful.
