This guy is the best math teacher I have ever had. As long as you do the work, you will do well - that means *all* of the homework... I did and got an A.
This class is ok. It is a hard class, but he makes it ok. Overall rating is fair.
He was an okay teacher, but not great. He is very dry.
He is an okay teacher, and probably not much above average. He is very dry and does not have much of a personality. I would probably take him again if I had it to do over again, just because he is not a bad teacher not because he is a great teacher.
I think he's a good teacher, not amazing, but still very good. He really breaks things down for you. As long as you go to class every day and at least pay attention, you should do well. If you actually do all the homework, you'll do really well.
Mr. Abert is a good teacher. He can be a little on the boring side. I didnt pass his class in the Fall and i am taking it again w/ Ms. Domm (see her rating next) but i guess at the end i should thank him, cause now i understand it better and i am passing!
An outstanding Professor! I highly recommend him! He is clear in what he wants, teaches, and expects. He volunteers at the math help center and makes himself available during office hours. Easy to talk to and to ask questions. An outstanding professor!! I wish he taught 1106 this semester.
His class was not easy because statistics is very hard but he was helpful and taught the material thouroughly. You have to study and got to class or you'll get very hard behind. He curved the tests every time.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had (Im not very good at math). The subject is boring..it's math! He is thorough and really knows how to teach. He leaves out the un-needed stuff and concentrates on what you need to know to pass the test. DO YOUR WORK AND GO TO CLASS or you will NOT pass.
OK teacher. He goes very in depth, sometimes too much so
I hate math but this guy is one of the best math teachers I've had. He isn't a boring robot like others... I even had his class at 9 am and stayed awake every day!
He isn't a very good teacher. He assumes that everyone knows what he is talking about and doesn't explain things clearly. If you aren't good at word problems, this man loves to give word problems for his test. He also doesn't go out of his way to help you. Not a good teacher. He should care about his students success in his class, but he doesn't.
dont take his clASS
Mr. Abert is a really nice guy. He definately cares about students and will try to help you in terms of your career. You can tell that he really likes math, but sometimes he gets on a roll and doesn't explain things so well. He's a good teacher overall though; I'd take the class again (got a B).
Best math teacher I ever had. I took trig before with someone else and had to drop. Abert made everything clear. Hard tests, though.
Not a bad guy, you can tell he loves math. HIs tests arent too hard, always has a review day before. If i had to i would take him agian.
I had him for trig in the summer. He only had two test and a final.I would go to his office for help but I was confused even more.He is a good teacher if you can understand the class and doesn't need extra credit. I had to drop it and take another teacher.
He is an awesome teacher!!!! I am horrible in Math but his class was so easy and he was a great teacher. He explains everything and answers all questions. He always reviews the day before the test. As long as you take notes you'll do great!

I really enjoyed Mr. Abert's College Algebra, and I highly recommend him as a professor.
He is fantastic. Not an easy A, but very fair with grading. The tests are no joke, but neither is the material. He knows the material like Newton himself, and his enthusiasm for math is contagious. He also has a good sense of humor. If you love math take him, if you hate math and need an easy A, look somewhere else.
I've found Rex to be perhaps one of the dullest math teachers at TCC. This past semester, I attended to only maintain an acceptable attendence record and instead would study the solutions manual and the book for help I may have needed. For those times when I was still stumped, I would go to the math lab. I would not recommend taking Rex.
Nice Guy. Always gives out practice tests which are similiar and helpful.
Taught the material well but if you missed a class it was very difficult to learn from the book. Not too strict on attendence but definitely a class you want to attend every day.
This is NOT the teacher to take if you struggle w/ math! His style of instruction is to show you what's already in the book; it can't be classified as "teaching." Good luck if you take him.
He's tough but thorough. Subject matter was difficult and he has a way of moving quickly through it. Better study to keep up
GREAT TEACHER!!!! I HATE MATH BUT FOUND THAT ALL THIS TIME I WAS TAKING THE WRONG PROFS...HE IS VERY THOROUGH, NEVER GETS IMPATIENT, WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTION AND IS VERY ACTIVE IN THE MATH CENTER FOR EXTRA HELP. I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE THAT HAS A PROBLEM WITH MATH TO TAKE REX ABERT, HE REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF AND LIKES SHARING!!!THANKS REX!!
I really liked Rex. He is always willing to help out. He sets aside a good portion of his class time just for questions. Rex is very active in the math help center. He know his stuff. If you take his class make sure you go to class. No homework is given for credit. Your grades are based on test scores alone.(which he always curves)
Awesome teacher. His class is tough if u dont try, but if you have any questions or problems he will be more than happy to help you. So far, best math teacher i have ever had and want to take hime for the rest of my math classes. Tells you exactly what is going to be on the test, just go to class and listen and you'll get at least a B
This teacher was the worst teacher I have had in my entire life time.I had to teach myself. He rude and disrespectful to all of his kid. Before i sign up for his class I check on this site saw all the review and ignore them I regret that now. So anybody reading my comment please take it from me don't take his class even if he's the only teacher.
Rex is tough but fair. He knows math, so if you're considering math or engineering as a major he is a great option.
Mr. Abert really cares about his students. He is very wiling to help anytime you have a question. I HIGHLY recommend him. I hope I can get him for statistics.
Mr. Rex is a tough teacher but a very good one. I had to take the class two times to finally pass. I took him twice, I understood it more the second time. Its hard enough to learn it the first time but can be done..I suggest math lab, alot.
He doesn't have a clue. Ridiculous style of teaching. Use the book cause you'll need it. Show ALL work on tests, homework, etc. Uses dumbest system ever (LON-CAPA). Take someone (ANYONE!) else.
if your lookin for a professor to GIVE you an A dont take him. if you really want to learn the material take him. he never tried to trick you or anything on his tests, if you knew the material you aced it. the final is a department exam, he prepared me well and i aced that Bih! Take this dude!
Good teacher...extremely helpful and easy to understand. This class was very simple although very boring. He's my #2 choice behind Mr.Smart for the MGF classes.
Great math teacher! Kinda dorky jokes, but you will learn math!
Abert is a somewhat dorky, but interesting & informative teacher. i used 2 hate math but he made it interesting. he runs through the information quickly, but will repeat info. as many times as it takes 4 u to get it. u should go 2 class b/c there r sometimes concepts that r in tests that r not in the book. book use is not required, but it helps.
Hes hard, knows his stuff, but he over complicates a lot of topics. if you wanna pass show up to class and DO THE HW! HW is done on Lon-Capa garbage system.
He explains everything well. Always asks if there are any questions. Great teacher, easy class. You don't need to buy the book! Only the my math lab code and the text book will be online.
You should go to class and take notes. If you do homework and take quizes (MyMathLab) regularly, it is not that hard to follow this course. You don't need to buy a book; buying the MyMathLab access code is enough. Take his class!
if you're not already awesome at math, don't take him! he assumes that you remember everything from the previous math class, or possibly in your case, high school. he skips steps, flys through the problems and jumps around like a maniac. you dont have to buy the book and the hwk isn't graded (which may actually help). keep researching professors!
Great Professor. The Lon Capa deal was kind of lame but his teaching methods were excellent. I'll take him again if can. If you go to class and take notes you'll breeze through. He's very willing to help all of his students.
Mr. Abert has 1 method of teaching--if your learning style matches that, you're golden; if not, you're screwed because he can't teach (or explain it) any other way. He's there to point you in a direction, rather than to walk with you on the journey.
This teacher pretty much sucks. He isn't helpful at all and is very impatient with people who aren't understanding. I had to miss a test and it was a huge ordeal to even make it up. I wouldn't take him again if I had to!
he uses this thing called LonCapa supposedly because its open source..but the software doesnt work like MyMathlab, it doesnt show you where you make mistakes ..theres not enough learnable application..if you're a visual learner thru repetion like MyMathlab you'll be forced to pay for something similar to mymathlab or a combination of applications
He is very helpful and if you go to class its easy. I taken him for college algebra, trig and precalculus.
i had this teacher for trig and had to withdraw a month before the semester ended. he doesnt post or tell you your grades and offers no help.and i quote" wont help you for making mistakes". the LONCAPA questions he writes has nothing to do with what you learn in class. he goes though lessons too fast to comprehend.
I have had him for trig as well.....I dont like this teacher one bit!!! He doesnt help you at all! I asked him plenty of times that I would like some help and the only thing he kept telling me was that I would get it if I stayed in the class....Needless to say I never got it (because he doesnt teach well) and I failed trig :/
Awesome professor. Explains things very clearly, and always answers questions. If you do your assignments, you will do well.
Undoubtedly the worst teacher I have had so far. If you have the opportunity to avoid him, please do so at any cost. He is very unclear when teaching, does not upload grades, and gets irritated at times when you don't understand something. Our class started with around 30+ students, and now has around 7-10 students. That has to tell you something.
Great teacher. He genuinly loves math and loves teaching. I had him for Calc 1 summer '11 and it was amazing. The way he teaches you can tell that he wouldn't be happy doing anything else. He NEVER makes fun of a student for asking a stupid question, is very patient. Keep up with the homework, go to class(pop quizes)and ask questions and you'll pas
He is the first teacher I've ever had that made me love and genuinely understand math. I'm both ecstatic and grateful that I was able to be his student. I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but that's how I really feel. You have to study, though, just like you should study in every math class. I love this teacher and encourage you to take him.
Best math teacher I ever had!!! He's quirky and has sort of a dry sense of humor. He explains everything very clearly and there really isn't too much homework. First time I've ever enjoyed going to math class. Awesome teacher. If given the opportunity, TAKE HIM!!! :)
Mr. Abert is less of a teacher, and more of a presenter. Sure, he can talk about what he's presenting, but if you don't get it, he's unable to actually TEACH it to you, or present it any other way. He's often impatient with students, particularly when asked to repeat himself.
NO NO... ALL HE DO IS GIVE EXAMPLES. HE MOVES VERY FAST AND U LEARN TOOO MUCH INFO FOR ONE TEST.
This teacher made me realize that I love math, and that I want to pursue a math-heavy major. I am so grateful to have had him. Thank you, Professor Abert.
Rex Abert was the best math teacher that I've ever had. He presented the material we needed clearly and gave plenty of examples. He made you earn your grade and he was always willing to help. Great teacher!
OMG, his course compass has 62 problems for each section, teaches like a high school teacher who gives just vocabulary words. He doesn't allow you to make up and quizzes or test reguardless of your excuse. I strongly dislike him, and wouldn't reccomened him to anyone
Rex Abert is a good guy. He explains the material and gives a little history about it. He assigns a lot of homework like the other ppl said, but its math and the more homework you get, the better you will do on his test because the test are not that bad. if you truly care about making a good grade (which means you must go) he will care as well.
Absolutely one of the best math teachers I've had. Explains everything very clearly, gives excellent notes in class. Very helpful and available in office hours. He's got a dry sense of humor but if you get it he's hilarious. I had him for Trig and Calc 1 and would take him again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!
Very good teacher! As long as you keep up with homework and making sure that you understand the material you can get an A.
Skipped a lot of steps so it was hard to follow. He also wouldn't explain many things. But if you did know what questions to ask he'd answer them although I would sometimes get so lost that I didn't know what question to ask. I'm retaking this class with a different professor next semester.
Really helpful teacher. Always has a positive attitude and is willing to answer any questions you have. Incredibly laid back, but expects you to learn the material.
Best professor ever!!! Take him if you don't get an A its because your lazy not because he is a bad professor. He really cares for his students and wants us to understand the information and do well.
Excellent teacher! Do all your homework, and you will do well in the class. He is very helpful
Very good professor. He teaches in a very informative way. I would recommend him. Sometimes fast but very helpful in explanation of material!
He is your average goofy math teacher who thinks he is funny, but not. If you don't have a 'math brain' beware, he doesn't explain things very well. We are using ALEKS instead of the textbook but he says that may change after this class. I have always been good at math and am doing good in the class!
Excellent professor!! Very informative and makes sure you know the material. Homework is done online, but if you do it and show up to class consistently you will get a good grade
Great professor!! The way he teaches is very informative and clear, and he makes sure you understand the material. The homework is done online. If you do the homework and show up to class every time you will get a good grade
Mr. Abert is a wonderful professor. If you attend class, ask questions, and study the material, you should be able to get a good grade! Be prepared for quizzes every few weeks and tests. He gives you a pacing schedule so you know when tests are. Just pay attention in class & study and you should do well!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you like teaching yourself and spending hours on ALEKs on the (unnecessary)pie. I am not lazy and I make a 3.4 GPA. He is a nice guy but he does not know how to teach and explain things clearly. I use to make As in math until this class. I wished someone warned me so I am warning you.
Great guy, is willing to help and is pretty reasonable about grading policies. the online homework is another story… you'll work on it for hours and have to teach most of it to yourself
Awesome math teacher, by far the best one at tcc. If you go to class and do the hw you will learn the material. I didnt even have to study for the tests because the hw prepares you. Write down all his notes from class. Hes great you would be lucky to take him
He sucks at teaching and goes wayyyyy too fast.
very orderly, examples or lessons have structured appearance on the chalk board. straightforward quizzes and tests. His example drawings of methods to calculate area or volume are pretty good, and very precise. very good teacher.
This was the best math class I've taken. As long as you follow along in class and keep up with the work you will pass. He does not spoon feed you the material, but if you have any understanding of algebra then his lessons will be easy to follow. If you struggle with basic concepts this may not be the class for you. His lessons are through but fast.
He mostly does examples which I dislike because I feel like I'm not fully learning. I've had to teach myself things that he's skipped over. Not okay.
The class moves pretty fast. Sometimes he thinks he goes over a subject, but he never did. That's why it's important to do the homework and ask questions otherwise the material on the tests will be something you've never seen. It definitely takes a certain kind of person to excel in his class.
Really good guy, decent teacher. But I had a really hard time. Not sure how much of it was me, and how much was him being unclear. Does examples instead of really explaining the math. Felt like I had to teach it to myself a lot. But again, it's just difficult material and I'm not great at math. Do the homework! Not mandatory, but it will help a lot
Most boring teacher I've ever had. I get straight A's in all my classes, but I got a C in this class basically because he was so boring and impossible to listen to. He doesn't explain the conceptsrules, only uses examples. You pretty much have to figure out what he's doing. It's also practically an online class with all the online work and lessons
Rex Abert is the MAN. Took him for Calc II and he made the material understandable, not easy when you're working with Series. Not the toughest grader, has two formulas to calculate grade and best of all open note tests.
This class is tough, I took it for spring semester and would spend a lot of time studying because I struggle with math. He is not a bad teacher, however, he teaches very fast so you have to make sure you ask questions if you're confused. Overall, he is really nice but do not expect to pass if you do not try.
Tough class. Nice guy, not a good teacher.
He's a good Professor.
THE worst, HARDEST thing ive ever overcame. Un-helpful, lazy and doesnt care. He should even be a teacher honestly. This is not the job for him.
Mr. Abert is one of my favorite professors at TCC. He made MAC1140 stupid easy. He's also pretty funny.
Rex Abert is the worst professor at TCC. I am a math major and I can assure you that he is terrible. He may have even ruined my career for me. Gives excuses for missing class and gave no review or study guide for final. Please, by all means do not take him!!!!! He couldn't even pass the Calc 1 test so he legally shouldn't be teaching.
Teaches to fast. Too bubbly for my taste
Mr. Abert was not my favorite professor. There were times that he would preform examples in lecture wrong, and he could not correct them. The lectures were unclear and hard to follow. Also, the tests were very hard compared to examples we had done in class and after talking to classmates, it was a communal feeling that we were not prepared for them
Don't do it unless you are familiar with Mac 1105. I'm a straight A student & had a difficult time. Test seem to have nothing to do with what you've studied. Don't normally rate professors unless necessary Nice person, but has a cocky, show off style of teaching. If you're not somewhat familiar with Mac 1105, DON'T DO IT, YOU'LL REGRET IT.
He is a Mathematics man. Awesome. I had him for precal and will take him all of myh maths if I can
Awful professor. This was his first time teaching an MGF class and it clearly showed.
He is a great teacher do not get me wrong, but he is teaching format is for students who clearly grasp the concept of math! i am terrible at math and i did terrible in this class! DO ALL HOMEWORKS! ATTEND ALL CLASSES! If you are good at math i advise you take this class because it may be easier for you.
great teacher, going to his office hours is very helpful because he is willing to go over and workout any problem you ask him too. lots of homework but it prepares you for the test. pretty funny. tests are based on the homework, very fair grader. . don't skip class. this class will not be an easy A. study and do your work and you will get an A.
Good at explaining new material. Moves at the perfect pace. Will answer any of your questions perfectly. Tests are a lot easier than the home works. Gives partial credit on tests. Tests are only 45% of the grade so if you fail one dont worry.
Professor Abert was a good professor. He teaches a little fast in my opinion but he is very knowledgeable. He takes attendance but does not give any in class quizzes. 10% of your grade is online LONCAPA and this alone will teach you everything you need to pass the class. He does not give study guides for the tests but you can just review LONCAPA.
get ready to take notes. he writes them all on the black boards and doesn't post anything online. If you miss class you wont have any idea what's going on unless you go to his office hours
He is very knowledgeable and explains the material well, but his lecture can seem never-ending and his homework problems are a lot harder than the ones he goes over in class. They are also very long (some with 40 questions) but he gives you normally over a week to complete. I would suggest taking MWF to have shorter lectures or else you'll zone out
No comment. He is awesome. if not, you are not doing what you have to do for a math class. Do not complain you teacher.
Professor Abert was an all around decent professor for Calc 2. He struggles in teaching you new material right off the bat, and typically expects that you will have read the section being covered in class before hand. He doesn't curve or drop lowest test grade, but he is a very easy grader on tests, and gives a lot of partial credit on problems.
I love math it's easily my favorite subject. This professor is very passionate and does an excellent job of explaining things. I'm not a fan of liberal arts math because I hate word problems, he does an amazing job teaching and it was np for me. Attendance isn't mandatory but I took it as express and if you skip, you will easily fall behind.
Abert is a genuinely nice person and shows enthusiasm. He will only invest in you if he sees that you invest yourself in learning the material. This is math people, you are inevitably going to practice constantly in order to fully grasp what you are learning. The hw problems aren't ever too challenging. If you do the hw the tests should be eazy.
Entire class consists of him doing examples. He might briefly talk about the concept to introduce it. Homework is on LonCapa which is the worst! If you bring him the question, he'll do it for you though. Tests are alright if you review. He's a good person, but not the best teacher. Trig is hard, and he doesn't really make it easier. No book needed.
Hes a thorough instructor. If your a math or engineering major hes your guy. If not, like I am not, then he is not your guy. Got an A but he defiantly makes you work for it. Will ensure you are prepared for future math classes.
This is by far one of my worst math teachers in my entire life. Does not explain many things on the tests. Loncapa is much more difficult than it should be since it does not give you the right answer when trying to teach the math to yourself. I highly recommend not taking this class with him. Any other teacher is probably a better option.
Incredibly helpful if you have questions.
Prof Abert is definitely a prof I will never take again, nor will I recommend him to anyone. I ended up catching the flu and missed the first test and he never responded to any of my emails and when I returned and asked to make up the test he said no and walked away. The test I did take had 10 questions. Also, be prepared for nonstop homework...
He is probably one of the worst professors I've had. He's horrible at explaining what will be on the test, spends the entire class period just doing examples but never fully explains the subject. This class should have been easy, and all of my friends who have a different professor are doing good, but because he's a bad teacher I'm not doing well.
Great teacher, he really knows the material and presents it in an easy to understand way.
He teaches so fast its crazy! it's so hard to track where he is doing his steps to solve any problem. He gets so into math problems you have to yell your question and hope he hears you. I've been to his office hours, it is not much help either because he gets mad when you don't understand things after he said it the first time. Pick another guy...
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. If you sign up for his class you are signing yourself up to fail. He does not teach in class, he does examples on the board without explaining what he is doing. He skips steps assuming you will know what he did. He gets angry if you don't understand material Horrible grader does not give half credit
Prof Abert doesn't understand that some students haven't seen this material yet. He does the examples way too fast, with little explanation. The homework is much more difficult than the practice problems he gives in class. I'm only a week into the semester and I can already tell this is going to be my worst grade. Would not recommend him to anyone.
If you're a visual learner, take this class. He is a very nice guy but goes really fast. Very homework heavy class, 2 to three assignments before every class. It is doable though.
I took Rex in my freshman year. He is very tough and doesn't care if you pass or fail. Beware if you're taking his class your going have to do a lot of independent studying and you going have to go the learning commons!! When in class he usually goes through examples fast and, the homework he assigns is nothing like the work you do in class.
Professor Abert has been the absolute worst math teacher I've ever experienced. I dreaded going to class every week. He was not there to help at all, any time a question was asked you would be made feel stupid for asking it, he would humiliate you in front of the entire class. He speaks to the chalkboard and not to the class. Do not recommend him.
He can't or won't explain the steps. He gives no extra credit or curves and over half of his class had to show up on exam week for make-up grades because everyone was failing.
A good class with lots of interesting topics. You get to retake a test, so it is very easy to get a good grade. He explains everything so you can understand it.
He is the first math teacher I've ever had where math made sense.
I'm surprised that Prof. Abert is rated so low? I found him extremely helpful and he seemed like a genuinely nice person. You have to try hard though: this is college math and there is no easy way to get good at it. He does a lot of examples in class - so review your notes regularly, and you'll get a decent understanding of "how" and "why".
First of all, I really liked Professor Abert. He is a very nice guy and will help you out in any way possible, but I definitely took the wrong class with him without a doubt. STA2023 is very challenging and will require a great deal of your time. I will definitely take him for another math class if one is available though. I would recommend him
Absolute worst teacher I have ever had. If you do not already have a great understanding of algebra, do not take him. He treats the class like a review course. Also he uses chalk which speaks for itself. He makes you feel dumb and completely embarrassed if you ask a question.
Great professor, explains everything in simple terms and lectures are very easy to follow. Even if you suck at math, you can pass this class. He answers any and all questions. Just pay attention and do the homework.
Gives out homework that he hasn't looked over himself, when teaching a new section he goes over 1/3 of the work and rushes to get it done. He's very proud of being weeks ahead of the syllabus, but fails to adequately teach the material. Everyone I talked to had to take tutoring to master the material.
Professor Abert was a really nice guy, but he went through everything so quickly, he was always ahead of our pacing schedule and you take tests a week earlier then anticipated, I had to go to the tutor center a lot because he moves so quickly through the homework
Simply put, don't take his class.
I cant recommend taking his classes under any conditions. Hes a nice guy, a professional in his field, but being a professional does not make one a professor. He zooms through units, skips over questions, uses an outdated website for homework where you have to be stupidly specific. Take this course and you'll be living in the Learning Commons.
I had this professor for Zoom University and it was very hard online. Lots of homework but the homework is similar to the exams. Just DO THE homework. I didn't do well in this class because of how he lectures--shows some examples but doesn't go through how he goes from point A to C. Just overall a class that you NEED to pay attention to.
I couldn't speak math before this class. This class is an amuse bouche to everything you need to know to get by "speaking math". It worked best for me to participate & do all the homework in order to get a 100 (practice makes perfect). He responds to questions. I now speak just enough math to look like I know what I am talking about. He is patient
Very tough to follow, be ready for a tough semester of taking this course
Would not recommend this teacher for anyone that is not already a mathematician. Very difficult to stay awake in class. He writes on a chalkboard, and he teaches in a way that makes you feel like you're supposed to already know all the information. I've never left a rating, but I had to warn as many people as I could.
This is a lecture-heavy math class where you'll need to take a lot of notes. The way this class is taught makes the subjects simple and easy to understand. There is a lot of homework, but the homework also helps with future tests. Not strict on attendance, but it's a class where if you miss a day or two of learning you'll fall behind.
Teacher was very nice and gave great lectures. Everything he taught was on the test and the difficulty of the homework was the exact same for the test. He runs through the homework in class and always asks if anybody has questions constantly. As long as you write down everything he does you should have no problem getting an A,make sure to show work
This class was not very challenging, however, this professor moves very quick and is sometimes hard to keep up with. He definitely knows what is talking about but you have to stop him if you have any questions because he will just keep going. I would not recommend this class to anyone who has trouble with math because the pace is too much.
I unfortunately had to drop this class due to conflicts out of my control outside of class, but I really enjoyed Professor Abert. If everything outside of school had been under control, I would have absolutely succeeded in this class. He lectures really well and his tests are half multiple choice/half fill in the blank.
IF YOU PLAN TO TAKE CALCULUS 2 WITH HIM JUST KNOW THAT YOU MAY END UP DROPPING THE CLASS BY TEST 2 IF U EVEN MAKE IT THAT FAR. IF YOU DON'T STUDY SIMPLY DO NOT TAKE HIM, PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN SAKE AND YOUR GPA. 45 PERCENT OF YOUR GRADE IS BASED ON 3 TESTS AND HE DOES NOT DROP YOUR LOWEST TEST, WHAT OTHER INFORMATION DO U NEED TO NOT TAKE HIM...
If you arent amazing at math dont take this guy. Doesnt teach the lesson, just solves 1-2 of ur hw problems then moves on. Assigns 3-5 things per week, some getting up to 30 questions, which can get time consuming if you have to teach it to urself. but grading criteria is super easy, grade reflects ur hw grade avg
If you are not naturally good at math i wouldn't recommend taking his class. Every lecture has a homework that takes about an hour to 2 hours. It is very test heavy. I will say he does curve his tests. I got a 60% on a test and it was curved to an 81%. If you miss a lecture you WILL be lost. He will answer any questions you ask in or after class.
This professor teaches in an very unhelpful way, all he really does is pulls a question from the math homework and works the problem out for himself than rather teaching it step by step. he works really fast paced and it's hard to catch up with him. He hands out LOTS of homework. majority of the questions on the test aren't from the study guide.
You are assigned a homework after every class and given a test every 2 weeks. There are no quizzes or anything else. He is hard to get a hold of, I sent him 6 emails this semester and he replied to one. He does curve his tests well, around 20 points usually, depending on how everyone did. If you are not naturally good at math I wouldn't take him.
Worst instructor ever! Didn't teach the circle for Trig, so nothing made any sense, said we didn't need it. Curves tests, then changes the grading rubric after the final exam. Final exam average was 45 & course average was 61 for the entire class. 18 students didn't even bother to show up for the final. Report him if needed.
Seriously one of the hardest classes I have taken. You have to spend HOURS on HOURS doing the massive amounts of homework and studying for the 4 honorlock exams. He responds decently fast to emails, but with very unhelpful responses. Don't take this class, it took up so much of my time I barely had time to focus on any of my other classes.
Gives a bad first impression but after half the class drops out he's ok. Professor Abert gives LOTS of homework and his tests are long but he curbs the tests and is generous in his grading. He uses a site called Loncapa instead of Lumen and it's terrible. Most of class is just answering questions from the homework. Not that bad but not good either.
Homework is on lon-capa, which is very old, and frustrating because you'll have to enter questions a specific way. Homework is also incredibly long. You may end up taking 2-4 hours on it. He tends to skip over certain parts in the process of finding the answer, and that can confuse your notes. Questions you haven't studied for will be in test&exam.
Attendance comes out of your grade so avoid missing class and in general missing class makes you loose important topics. He goes extremely quick so be attentive when you take notes or just take pictures of the board. He uses this ancient site to assign homework which sucks. Avoid his class if you can or try hard because an A will not come easy.
Professor Abert's class is fast-paced, with mandatory attendance and long, frustrating homework on an outdated site. However, his clear lectures and helpful review of homework make the material manageable. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for me to prep for tests.
He tends to move quickly, so if you do better learning in a slower environment, he may not be the teacher for you. He assigns online math homework and occasional homework to turn in person but gives a good amount of time to complete it. He gives partial credit on tests, which significantly helps your grade.
Please do not take this professor. I started the semester off on a bad note by getting a bad test grade. I went to his office many times and he offered no help whatsover. None of the information on the tests are like anything on the review. Do not take him.
Professor Abert is great. He has a very laid-back personality. He works quickly but stops and helps everyone remain on the same page. If you come to class, do the homework, ask questions - you'll pass. He is easy to approach and work with. Always encourages students to do homework, even if late.
The formatting used for all assignments is a little difficult to use at first. Compared to most teachers, I feel like he is very empathetic and understanding towards students, which is hard to find and teachers these days. It's very easy to get a hold of him. some of the assignments can be long, so procrastination isn't ideal (learned the hard way)
Mr. Abert is an excellent professor. He speaks clear about the lessons. Takes time to answer question and is available after hours through email. I look forward to taking his next class level.
Use an old website that made no sense and he went too faster lectures and I didn't understand anything in this class.
Prof. Abert has been the worst prof I've dealt with at TSC. He moves too fast during his lectures and answers questions vaguely. I had to email him three times to get an excused absence. He doesn't offer office hours, and his way of "teaching" is working out the problems out loud with little to no explanation as to why he's doing what he's doing.
The material is already tough and on top of that, he is purely an awful professor. There is lots of homework. He rushes through the lesson, He answers your questions with little to no guidance/explanation. Communication? Pfft, that is out of the question. He doesn't respond to emails and rushes out as soon as the lecture is over to ask him anything.
I found Professor Abert challenging. He skips steps when solving problems in class. Test dates aren't announced well in advance. He uses an outdated homework platform, unlike Canvas, which prevents repeated practice. Tests match homework but require self-teaching outside class. While he seems nice, his teaching style didn't work for me.
Absolutely awful professor. I know for some people, math comes easy but I am not that person. Honestly I probably shouldn't have taken it online but Abert did not help. He posts notes that don't pertain to the topic and if you ask for help or extension because you're actually trying to learn it, he almost ridicules you. Horrible, horrible professor.
Professor Abert was a decent professor. He's more of an "actions speaks louder than words" professor, come with a willingness to put in the work and you'll find out that he will go out of his way to help you. He does use an outdated platform called loncapa and gives you a tutorial on how to input the data. Test and Exams weigh allot more than HW.
Worst professor I have had in a WHILE. Does NOT respond to anything. Emailed, emailed on canvas, texted, called, no way to reach him. The one time he responded was to say "The last time you emailed me was in september" in November. I was emailing him about the same assignment for 2 months straight, and he didn't respond again after that.
This man literally accused me of cheating, he is hard to get in contact with and he doesn't grade often he is TERRIBLE DO NOT TAKE HIM
He's the kind of teacher who nerds out on the chalkboard and solves all the math problems on his own in front of the class. He does try to explain what he's doing but when you're bad at math it's not very helpful. He uses Aleks for homework but tests are on paper. He rarely updates grades on canvas so stay on top with homework.
Buckle up, people are not kidding when they say this is a hard class. Do you have a significant other? Well congratulations, it's now Calc 2. Rex is such a caring professor and you can tell he's been teaching the material for decades. He does tend to skip steps sometimes, so just be careful. He is very generous when it comes to paper based grading.
Professor Abert is the type of professor to not make your life any harder but also won't make it any easier. His lectures are very fast paced and can be difficult to understand if not good at math but he is very accessible in his office hours outside of class and provides resources for you to understand the material. Very straight forward guy.
