Very good teacher

Great professor...wish all could have been like him.
WOW! do not get Dr. Kelley for this class. He wrote the book and you have to learn from the book. His notes are nothing like the test and the test are extremely hard. I had to study for 5 hours just to get a B. Cool guy who is funny but, far warning!
The best professor that I have had at auburn. Be prepared to spend a little bit of time studying, but everything he teaches in the class is relevant to being sucessful in the business world.
Hilarious! I like his teaching a lot, but it is nothing like what you will see on the test. Full of "...all of the following are reasons EXCEPT..." which totally screws with your head!!
One of the best professors I've ever had. I looked forward to going to this class.
Fun teacher, but really hard. AFter all, he did write the book. Does give bonus for attnedance every now and then, so you may get lucky and be there on one of those days. Be prepared ton study hard
Nice guy but is an a$$ about grades. Don't go to class it is a waste of time. Work hard get a C.
He is called wild professor because his style to format class not his manner. I like his class, discussing Harvard cases, interesting and useful. You will get some ideas which you can not get from other classes.
Great, funny
An absolutely cool professor who knows his stuff and a whole lot more!!! Reads extensively and brings interesting perspectives to the various case studies discussed which is what the course is about!!! Love the guy!!!!!
Does a fantastic job of placing relevance of coursework into the bigger picture or the business environment. Not the best looking legs, however.
Good Teacher. Test are straight from the book and he tells you what pages to read. You can drop one test. Go to class its borig but you get bonus on some days.
Kelly has a grip on the real world and is able to teach from the perspective of what students need to know. He stresses current events and reading periodicals. He makes the class interesting though he is teaching what could be dry material.

Terrible Teacher!!!! Was very unfair about grades and tests are sooooo hard! Do NOT take him!!!
I love Kelly Rainer - too bad he's a professor! Anyway, his class was great and he is extremely helpful if you have questions. very down to earth and teaches so that the material is applicable to real life -- plus, I love that he wears merrels everyday!
Dr. Rainer is a great teacher. Lectures are informative and interesting. Tests however are extreamly hard, all short answer discussion questions. Plan on filling up a blue book every time. Drops lowest test grade, and final is optional, however still made a C. Low grade is worth what you learn.
Can't be done without going to class, but if you're there and take notes, can get a fairly easy "B". "A" is tricky.
Class is interesting, but the tests are hard. HE puts material on there that wasn't covered, so it is very hard to get an A. Drops lowest test grade, which is nice because you will need it!!
I would say the class is very interesting, he just makes the tests really hard and evidently the extra cradit doesn't count from anything. Doesn't care about this class, might be better in classes that interest him...he thinks MIS people rule the world...it's pretty funny!
He's not a bad guy, but I don't like going to class and listening to someone bad mouth my major. The tests really aren't that bad if you study.
very laid back, wears shorts and t-shirts to class. he makes the class pretty interesting, even though the material is rather dry. he tells you what pages in the book will be covered on the test. tests aren't that hard if you pay attention in class and understand the notes. it's not an easy A class, but an A is definately attainable
One of the best teachers to take at Auburn. I did not say easiest. We had more fun in that class than any other class in college. Great Guy. Would Recommend him to anyone!
class is very interesting and laid back. he tells you what pages to study in the book. tests can be a little tricky though, but it's pretty easy to make a B, and an A is possible if you try
Apparently if you're not an MIS person, you're just a moron, because MIS people know all about computers AND business. What are the rest of us needed for? Heck, why don't we just all quit our jobs and go back to school for MIS, because that's where all the money is. This guy needs to grow up and recognize not everyone is an idiot.
If you go to class most of the time you will get a good grade. You get to drop 1 the lowest grade out of your first 3 tests.
Doesn't really say much worth taking notes on in class and then has test that are really long. Not sure really where all the material came from unless it was the book. He tries to make it interesting though.
Class not bad. He sucks though. Always has this stupid look on his face after he says something. It's a look that is like "I am so intelligent and you should thank me for telling you something so important."
The class was pretty interesting. He covered a lot of things that were pretty important in today's techno-business climate but for some reason the tests were always tricky to me.
The class was kinda stupid, but it was interesting at times. Rainer is super sarcastic, so anyone who thinks he's mean is probably misunderstanding him. I completely missed the final exam and he let me make it up. It was a WAY harder test but he told me exactly what to study for, so it wasn't too bad. I ended up with a B.
Tests were tricky. You must take good notes/buy the 'university notes'I made a B! I hate the way he gives lectures--he writes stuff randomly on the board, and you never know where he is in the book. For an MIS teacher he NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO USE WEBCT, he would post like 250 people's grades on a bulletin board in sz 10 font with no spacing. C'mon.
Please, good lord I hate people that don't go to class and say it is hard. If you really want a hard class go to one of Carrs classes, you will cry yourself to sleep every night. Just go to class and read the man's book, couldn't be more clear. If you are too dumb to understand that concept try Political Science as a major.

Good professor. easy class take notes and read the pages he tells you before the exams and you will be fine
His class is interesting, it's just impossible to take good notes. It's an easy B and an impossible A. On the 3rd exam NO ONE made an A and he still didn't curve. He thinks he's God's gift to MIS and women.
Not a bad guy. He's nice but a bit cocky. Notes are random but it is an easy B, and with a little effort a possible A.
Great Teacher. He knows his stuff and he encourages students to think; something that you don't see a lot of at Auburn.
Wonderful Teacher!!! Topics are interesting. Be prepared to discuss cases so that means A LOT OF READING!!!!
Cool professor. Do suggested readings for test and listen in class. He is very laid back and a cool guy.
Great teacher. Explains everything and wrote the book. Take him.
I really liked him. The topics are interesting and he always follows up in class if he gets questioned emailed to him. We watched a lot of Utube videos and I learned a lot with feeling like I was working a ton. Take him on Tues, Thurs - he never keeps us more than 45 minutes!
Worst professor at Auburn. Class was a complete waste of my time and money. If you want an easy B, take him. If you want to learn something, take another class.
Watched YouTube Videos in class. Tests were ridiculous compared to what is covered in class. Not suggested for MIS.
Classes are really interesting. Tests are not anything like the classes. He tells you what you need to know the day before the test, but tests are still tricky.
Class is worth going to! You learn alot about the future and it is really fun. He passes around the attendence sheet when there isn't many kids there. Very interesting but you need to study the book for tests because you wont do well if you just go off the lectures. Average grade is a B.
Solid class, and pretty interesting. I'm into technology and stuff so I had seen pretty much everything he presented. The bad thing is that this caused me not to study, and now I'm not going to do as well as I should. Oh well. Still probably the best professor of the ISMN 3140 lot.
Dr. Rainer is by far the best professor I've had at Auburn University. I've learned more in his class that I can apply to the real business world than most other classes combined. Dr. Rainer is intelligent and brings a passion to the class that really keeps you engaged as a student. He has a great sense of humor and I like how he calls you "Dr."
Very interesting class! You'll learn how to apply the concepts to the business world and what those concepts could mean to the future of business. His tests are a little tricky at first but you'll figure out how to study. Very cool guy and an excellent teacher.
Really professor and great guy. I only averaged a C because it took me a while to get the hang of his tests. But I went to class everyday and I guess he took note of that because he gave me a B in the class anyway. If you give an effort then he will too, he really wants you to do well.
Very cool professor and very interesting class if you like technology and futuristic stuff. He makes every subject he goes over interesting and he shows some pretty cool youtube videos every once in a while. You have to understand the chapters he assigns and over the notes you take in class if you want to do well. Highly recommend.
Fantastic class, definitely recommend it. Lectures were very interesting. If you're taking the distance class, participate by emailing him your thoughts on the lecture. If you share something valuable, he will discuss it with the class the next day.
I loved Dr. Rainer and this class. Tests are short answer/blue book. If you don't come to class you will have no earthly idea on what to answer on his tests but he makes you think. You have to use your brain. If you come up with an answer that shows you put effort into it, you'll get at least partial credit. think hard, no memorizing.
Go to class. You'll be lost if you don't on the exam! It's not mandatory but you'll so regret it if you miss any of the lectures. He's a great teacher and makes you think! Probably one of the best teachers in this department!
Dr. Rainer is a really cool guy! I actually enjoyed listening to his lectures. The only thing that sucks is that the only 4 grades are 4 tests. The tests are weird and you kinda have to BS your way through them, but the averages are usually B's. I would recommend writing down everything he says in class because all tests are open note and book.
Best professor I have ever had at Auburn. Enjoyed his lectures; they made you think critically about what is going on in the world and where we are headed. His exams are challenging and he looks for specific answers but gives partial credit if you try.
I loved this class! It inspired a new love for information systems in my heart! Dr. Rainer obviously loves the topic and the lectures are so, so interesting and informative! It is like learning about the future. If you're thinking about not buying the book - think again! All the tests are short answer/essay with open book and open notes!
Best class I have ever taken at any level. Very thought provoking, life changing stuff. A truly great professor and excellent person. Don't miss your opportunity to take this.
His lectures are mostly the test I never used the book or would use different emails to get the free trial. I loved his class he is actually very interesting. He is the easiest B but the hardest A to make. He always says he's not trying to kill our GPAs and his test are curved. They are the weirdest format but not hard to get used to.
Best prof at auburn. I get bored very easily, and he actually keeps my attention. I wish there were more professors like him. Take his class!
Dr. Rainer was very strict with his no technology rule and short answer tests, but provided good reason for it. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and listening to his futuristic thinking. He is very interested in his field and it shows in the way he teaches relevant information. Honestly best professor I've had. GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES.
GO TO CLASS. If you go to class and take good notes it is not a tough class. All of his tests are open note and he scales your grade in the end so the average on all the tests is the cutoff point for an A. Really interesting lectures, will be trying to take him in the future
Rainer is a great teacher who is very interesting to listen to and very knowledgable. All you have to do is show up and take some notes. No need to study for tests because they are open note. He wants everyone in the class to do well so you have to try to do bad. I had an 88 at then end of the year and he rounded me up without me even having to ask
Dr. Rainer is fantastic! At first, I was skeptical of him and his teaching style. He is against the whole "memorize information just for the test" idea. Tests are open note and short answer, with word limits. Go to class and write down everything he says. You'll learn some pretty valuable stuff. He rounded my 87.5 to an A!
Without exaggeration, I can say that he is the best professor I've had at Auburn. He encourages students to think critically and approach problems similarly to how companies expect you to in the real world. His class puts every textbook memorizing class to shame. I cannot sing this professor's praises enough.
He was the most difficult teacher I had seen in my two years at auburn. If you want to get an A easily, please choose another teacher.
This professor is the most difficult professor I have ever met. His exam is very difficult. He needs you to prepare a lot of materials to prepare for the exam.
All of his tests are blue book, open note, never made an A on them. Did go to class when he takes random attendance: probably why he rounds up. Thought this would be a boring class but it was very insightful and interesting. Worried about my grade all semester but came out with an A. If you go to class and take decent notes, you'll be fine!
Dr. Rainer is by far one of the most intelligent professors at Auburn. Go to class and pay attention and you will do great! I didn't really know what to expect out of the class but can confidently say I learned the most out of this class than all my other ones combined, and I am not even an MIS major! Take him
WHERE DO I BEGIN! This is the worst class I have ever taken at auburn. I would honestly say that the university has failed me with this one. RAINER IS THE WORST PROFESSOR! Never in my life have I consecutively failed OPEN NOTE/ OPEN BOOK test. He keeps telling us that he is going to curve our grades but I haven't seen a curve yet....
I am a straight-A student and did awful in this class. I'm sure his in-person version of the class was just fine but the online course was unnecessarily difficult. I reached out for help because I wasn't doing well on the exams and told him all I had been doing to prepare and he gave me zero guidance. If this class is asynchronous, do NOT take it
His tests are difficult but he rounded my 81 to an A. His lectures are interesting enough to listen to. I'd recommend taking him
Took Dr. Rainer last semester and struggled through the entire course. Got all the way to the drop date and debated dropping, but he said there would be a scale at the end of the semester. Only 4 grades are 4 exams, 25% each, and ended the class with a 75 average. My man scaled it up to an A. The tests were very hard, but he came through in the end
I graduated years ago & think about this class everyday. Here's the thing: you HAVE to go to class and you HAVE to pay attention. It's not boring material so it's easier to do than you think. It prepared me to not only get my dream job because I knew industry disruptors but also prepared me to not sound like an idiot. Do yourself a favor & take it.
Not really sure why some reviews says he is so hard? Just watch the lectures and take detailed noted and you will be more than fine. Test are open note. He tells you exactly what to study. Seems to be an interesting guy, and I wish this class would have been in person. Be prepared to print all your notes and textbook pages though!!
Dr. Rainer is fantastic. 4 non-cumulative exams that are open note and open book. Go to the lectures, take good notes, and you'll be fine for the exam. Exams are straightforward with good notes and engagement in the lectures. Material isn't difficult and he explains what everything is in real life applications. Put in the work and it's an easy A.
Dr. Rainer is not a brief man, but his lectures were fairly interesting. There were 4 non-cumulative tests, 25% of grade each, open-book and open-note. Some questions were straight from lectures, some straight from the text, and some required guessing. Class average on each test was around 79. I would not skip this class.
This was a lecture heavy class with only 4 opportunities to prove your grade. If you're wiling to work, your grade will reflect. Amazing professor, very informative and passionate.
class is entirely lecture based, and tests are over the most trivial things. Doesn't tell what is going to be on the test besides that its "from the lectures", yet half the questions are from the textbook which he never talks about.
Dr. Rainer is the best. This class was very interesting and super easy. The lectures are discussions on new technology. The material is great. Your grade is one final exam that you have the whole semester to work on. Put the effort in and you will get an A.
Professor Rainer was probably the worst professor I have had at Auburn. He lectures on and on about trivial things that will never help you in the real world. He then proceeds to make his tests extremely difficult (considering the minimal information that he teaches). Also refuses to look over past tests with you. Terrible professor.
This is my first review on rate my professor. Even though attendance is not mandatory--go to class. This man is the most cynical creature to ever roam the earth. He holds no office hours and chastises you if you ask for help outside of class. 4 Exams--25% of your grade each. Even though they're open note, they're impossible to get A on (trust me).
interesting class but hard to get an A. Easy B if you put in the work. 4 tests, 25% of grade for each test, no final, no extra credit, no homework of any other assignment. Textbook not required but recommended if you don't understand concepts. Class not mandatory but if you miss one lecture you're behind a ton. GO TO EVERY LECTURE!!!
Rainer knows his stuff. He makes it very clear on day 1 that even though he doesn't take attendance, come. Strict no phone, no laptop policy that makes people pay attention. Half of the tests are what he says verbatim. 4 tests, 1 hour to take them, 34 questions. Put in the effort, you'll get a good grade, some might hate or enjoy the class.
Most enjoyable class and professor I have had at Auburn. He was enjoyable to listen to because you feel like you are actually learning something. Very easy B, but difficult to make an A. If you want to enjoy going to a class, then he is the guy to take.
I agree with the review that says he is the most cynical creature on this earth :) NO tech in class. Lectures are interesting but don't help with how trivial the exams are. 4 tests determine your grade. He likes to show off that he knows a lot of facts on random/unrelated topics. Unaccessible outside of class, can't even review your tests.
Dr. Rainer was a tough grader and did not have a clear grading criteria. He only gives four exams and they are open note which is nice. He jumps around in class and then will put something on the test that he talked about for a minute. You never know what he is going to ask on a test and his grading sucks. I wish I had a different professor.
Your grade in Dr. Rainer's class is based on 4 difficult tests. No extra credit, no homework, etc. Tests are open note, which had me excited at first but I still did not do well on his exams. Dr. Rainer will not let students look at their tests after they have taken them if they'd like to see what they did wrong, his advice is to "study harder" :/
I actually really liked him as a person but his attendance isn't mandatory and if you miss a class then you forget about getting those questions right on the exam. Only 4 exams that were pretty difficult for being all open notes. have to print out any notes you want to bring to use. doesn't allow any technology in class...not even to take notes.
He has 4 tests with no other assignments or extra credit. His lectures are nearly impossible to sit through because of his pointless tangents. He doesn't allow technology in class and the tests are open note. The tests were very difficult and he doesn't even go over what we miss.
4 tests... no other assignment. His lectures are horrible. He gets very distracted talking about absolutely nothing to deal with the class. He doesn't allow technology in class and the tests are open note. Although the test are open note they are practically impossible. If you want to wake up hating life for a semester- this is the guy for you!
Rainer's class is very different, but very informative. He doesn't allow phones or laptops which is very helpful in actually learning. He's a pretty basic older guy so thats how his class is run. It definitely a little different of a style, but I would say Ive learned more in this class than any other at auburn.
Dr. Rainer is great and the class is too. No homework and attendance is not mandatory but is necessary for a good grade. Your grade is made up of three tests. But they are easy if you listen in class. If you have made it this far into ISMN you will definitely enjoy.
i mean just dont take this class
Literally created a rate my professor account to complain about him Attendance is not mandatory I can't even fathom what you would get on the tests if you didn't go His lectures are all over the place No technology in class 4 open note tests but haven't gotten higher than 75 all my friends are chilling with A's with other teachers DO NOT TAKE RUN!!
Just take someone else. The class is interesting, but every other teacher is a free A, and this guy makes it difficult to get a C. I wouldn't mind the class if the exams were easier or curved. I went to every class, but it didn't matter.
he says interesting stuff but his tests have so much material it's insane, open notes test sounds good until its on 65 pages in the book, 50 slides, and 4 pages of in class notes and thats one test. There's no other way to improve your grade aside from the tests. Just take another professor
Very difficult class, would not recommend taking unless your majoring in information systems management.
Dr. Rainer is truly one of those professors that makes me interested in learining again, while his teaching style is more disconnected and less canvas-based, that worked as an advantage rather than a drawback. By not allowing computers and phones, I inclined to focus on the content and absorb it better. Don't take of you're not ready to work
I have never ever ever had anything below a B in a class in HS or college and I finish the semester with a D in this class and I only missed I class and for that final exam I studied for 8 hours, printed out all of my notes, the slides and the text book and I only made a 78 on it. This class sucks and he does too.
Take another professor! His lectures are interesting but exams are impossible. He teaches from only from his head - no powerpoint or organized notes. It's 4 open note tests but none of the content was in my notes & I never missed a class. No support or other coursework. Ended with a C in the class and I hear other ISMN classes are Easy A's.
Was literally the worst class I have ever taken, run far far away
The class is very lecture-focused, and the tests can be unpredictable, making earning an A difficult. Strict no phone, no technology rule. However, the lectures are engaging and hold your attention. On a positive note, the professor was generous enough to round me and four of my friends from a B to an A.
Rainer's class has a unique teaching style - no tech, open-note exams, and random tangents. Tough grading, but I found Unstuck study super helpful for test prep. The lectures are informative, but you gotta stay engaged to do well.
This class was hard yes, he requires you to take notes on paper and no technology, but it all was worth it bc it helped you pay attention. GO TO CLASS and you will do fine on the test and he is very generous at the end of the year for you final grade
This was a really fun class! Rainer has a hard-nosed teaching style and doesn't permit the use of electronics in class; however, I think this made the class so much more enjoyable. (Hint: Go to class!!!)
Learned more in this class that I can apply to the real world than any other class at Auburn. Tests are free response with 30-40wprd limit, and there are only 2. Great professor who definitely cares.
Michael Lamb clears. If you want to have an easy stress stress-free class, I highly recommend him. Rex is kinda just over the top.
