Very helpful, even though the material is extremely difficult!
He is the best Chemistry professor I've ever had! He makes the classes interesting and fun, so you want to show up. At the same time, he's really tough, so you know that if you do well, you understand the material.
I enjoyed his class very much. He's very enthusiastic, laid back, and nice. His tests are easy if you do the hw b/c they are almost completely comprised of previous hw problems. Also a plus, he is very clear when you ask questions.
GREAT teacher! class is hard but he uses most of the hw questions for the test. welcomes questions and student involvement. his passion for the subject is contagious. this was my favorite class this semester!!
He is a great and enthusiastic teacher. Definately my favorite teacher this semester and he is very smart and knowledgeable.
Dr. Ghiladi was a great professor and made sure that we understood what was going on in class. If you take the Chemistry majors section of CH 101, be prepared. It's extremely hard if you didn't have ALOT of chemistry in high school. Outside help will definitely be needed.
He is an extremely informative and thorough instructor. His interest in teaching shows, and he keeps the sometimes difficult material balanced out by the occasional lighthearted joke. His expectations are high, so good note-taking and study habits are absolutely imperative to do well. Most of his test questions come from the homework.
Nice guy but the class was sooooo hard.
Great professor who definitely loves what he teaches. My favorite professor of the year by far. He focuses a lot on conceptualization which helps when trying to retain the knowledge once semester is over. Very hard class but if you study it's certainly doable. Highly recommended professor overall.
Never take this professor. he's smart but I absolutely loved chemistry before I took his class and now I hate it. You will fail if you take this professor
He definitely knows his stuff, but is almost happy to make the class too challenging for even the best chemistry students. Tests and quizzes are almost straight from the textbook; do the problems he suggests! I would not recommend him to incoming freshmen.
Dr. Ghiladi is the hardest teacher I have ever had. I struggled the entire semester even with my personal tutor, attending SI sessions, doing the problems in the book, etc. and I could not comprehend Chemistry. He is funny, but so over my head and the tests are extremely difficult. Take anyone, but Ghiladi because he is the hardest for Freshman.
He really knows his stuff. Great communicator/teacher, very helpful, but expects a lot. If your looking for an easy A w/ little work involved, DON'T take him, but if your willing to put the work in and want to KNOW Chem, DO. Tests are mainly ?s out of the book, final is test ?s but asked opposite way. (final-30%, 3 tests-45%, 6 quiz-15%, HW-10%)
Dr. Ghiladi was more of an advisor to me rather than a professor. He is super helpful in his office and really sits down with you to talk things through. He is calming and helps you to work things out. If in your a chem major and in need of advice for careers after college, you can always go to him.
Tough tests but great teaching
Prof. Ghiladi is tough! He once had a distribution curve of 5% A's for the semester. Tests and quizzes are a challenge. He knows his stuff, is really clear (no accent or anything), and is helpful at office hours. Take this course if you don't fear a B or C and want to really learn chemistry.
You wanna learn chemistry for real? Take a class with this man. But be warned, his test are FOR REAL! He makes his own exams and they are brutal. That being said, Professor Ghiladi is awesome! Constantly cracking jokes, and he really knows his stuff. My favorite professor by far, but if you wanna pass, you're gonna have to work hard.
I've never tried harder in an other class than Dr. Ghiladi's chemistry class. If you want to REALLY learn chemistry thoroughly and risk getting lower than a C, take his class. His homework is extremely easy, his quizzes aren't that bad, but his tests will destroy you if you don't study the text, lecture notes, practice problem, and quizzes.
I really enjoyed Dr. Ghiladi's class. While this is not the course for you if you're looking for the easiest chemistry class at State, Ghiladi is an excellent teacher and does a great job engaging the class in the material. I would definitely recommend him.
Ghiladi is one of the greatest professors at NC State. He is so clear and engages the entire class. The material is difficult but if you go in during office hours, take good notes, and work hard it is very manageable. Would definitely recommend him to anyone who actually wants to learn chemistry.
I LOVE this teacher, BUT HE IS SOOOOOOOO HARD. TAKE WITH CAUTION. If you really want to learn chemistry and are dedicated, take him. If not then avoid him at all costs.
As mentioned before, if you are seeking an easy grade in Chem, this is not the teacher to take. He says you have pop quizzes, but he does well in telling you when they will be during the class. Be sure to study old tests when studying for his final and don't expect to slide by in this class.
Yes, Ghiladi is hard. You will have to study to do well. That said, he was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very enthusiastic about chemistry, and makes tough concepts easy to understand. Plus he has a good sense of humor. I highly recommend taking his class if you want to learn chemistry.
Reza is hard ! If you want to learn Chemistry , go for it ! HOWEVER, YOU HAVE TO STUDY AND ASK QUESTIONS TO MASTER HIS TESTS ! THEY WERE REALLY TOUGH AND U NEED TO BE PREPARED
This is a tough class not matter what professor you have. Ghiladi's test are all multiple choice and the final is essentially a compilation of all of the old test which is nice. He does curve each test and I grade usually went up about 5 points.
He is not the professor for an easy A but neither is the class. Ghiladi made the class enjoyable and interesting. He was funny and tried to explain things as clearly as possible although he taught at a somewhat faster pace. The work is not that hard but the text book helps a lot. pop quizzes usually announce a week in advance
Ghiladi is a great lecturer, his lectures are very well structured. I enjoyed this class! No it was not easy, his tests are difficult, but they are not impossible. He gets across well what all he wants you to learn, if you pick up on that you will do okay on the tests. You have to put in the work.
He teaches 50% of the material, and expects you to magically understand the other 50%. you have to study hard for those exams, or you will not recognize the material on them, nevertheless know how to do it.
I took chemistry in high school and hated the thought of taking chem again, but it really wasn't too bad with Professor Ghiladi. He's passionate about his lectures and you'll learn a lot if you dedicate the time to his class. Even though his class is challenging, I enjoy attending it.
I personally did not enjoy his class because his tests were very difficult and he was not clear on what would be on quizzes. I have never been a slacker student and I found it very difficult to effectively study for his class. I often found myself learning the material, but doing badly on graded assignments because it did not cover what I studied.
Funny guy and will keep the class engaged. Some quizzes are 4 or 5 questions, others are 12+. 6 quizzes total and 3 tests and a final. Webassign homework around once a week.
Dr. Ghiladi is a nice professor. If you read the chapters before coming to class, you will easily understand his lectures. Re-write your notes after class. There were two things that I didn't like about his class: he doesn't post his lecture notes (or recitation worksheets) online and the lab was usually ahead of the actual class.
Prof. Ghiladi is a very helpful professor. I was a A-B student in high school and I'm looking at finishing with a C+-B- in this class. The class is pretty difficult but going to tutoring or office hours helps a lot. Not very many people dropped the class and he will occasionally let you take home a quiz which can help your grade out a lot!
Hardest Chem 101 teacher at state. I have friends with 3 other teachers and all simplify and teach less subject material. 3 tests are worth 45% of your final and the final is worth 30%. No extra credit and 96 percentile curve. If I had to guess the average grade is a C+
As a dedicated, hard working, and typically straight A student, I'm saying this class is extremely difficult. I understood the concepts but his tests are horrible. His quizzes are all quantitative and his tests kind of reflect the concepts behind the practice problems in the book and the quantitative problems he gives in class. Good luck.
He doesn't really give much help in class. If you ask a question usually you get a smart ass response. He is very tough and it is hard to understand the material because he goes so fast. Tests are hard and so are quizzes. Also normally we haven't really gone over the hw before its due. I strongly recommend taking someone else. I wish I would have.
Ghiladi was by far one of the toughest professors I've had so far in college. His class is definitely harder than some of the other Chem 101 classes at State but if you work hard you can still get a good grade in the class. He is not a boring lecturer and likes to make funny jokes while explaining the material well.
He is definitely harder than the other CH 101 professors. However, he makes it pretty clear what he expects you to do. Make sure you've mastered the end of chapter problems in the textbook and READ THE CHAPTER before the lecture, it goes a long way. Look at Koofers for his old exams, a lot of those problems/similar ones showed up on his new exams.
Really hard professor. I loved chemistry in high school, I even took AP chemistry and got a 4 on the exam but retook in in college just to make sure that i knew the material before going further. Even with a chemistry background his class was very hard. He is a tough teacher and tests are so hard to study for. I do not recommend at all.
I went to the tutoring center, SI, and studied my ass off for this course and still did badly. Ghiladi is a nice enough teacher but is in no way a forgiving grader. He also doesn't really care about his students considering that I emailed him several times at the end of the semester regarding my grade and he never responded.
All of his questions are modifications from the book, so if you read it and do those examples you should be fine. There are only 3 tests so one bad grade can bring down your whole grade which happened to me. He's really nice and loves what he does and wants to make sure you know the subject so ask questions!
Super smart guy and a great teacher, but he does NOT mess around. He sets the bar high and keeps it that way. Homeworks are easy, and he might let you take home a quiz or two, but his tests are legendary, and not in a good way. If you read the chapters and take sufficient notes you should be straight.
Throughout the year i emailed him a few times to ask about questions i had while going over the material and he never once emailed me back (I had to make sure I had the right email address). If there was a helpfulness score of 0 i would put that instead. That being said he seems like he knows the material but just doesnt explain it well at all.
Reza is a great teacher. If you want an easy A in chem 101 for CODA, I would suggest a different teacher. However, if your major is revolved around chemistry I would highly suggest taking him so your foundations are solid.
He was really interesting and well spoken. He did fun chemical demonstrations in the class from time to time to aid the lecture. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and I would take it again if I could.
Good lecturer and explain the material fairly well. However, quizzes are difficult and are usually pop quizzes. Tests are based on quizzes and can be found online. Overall good teacher, but he is a challenging professor
Ghiladi is the worst prof. I have ever had. There are 6 pop quizzes throughout the semester and they are anywhere from 15-4 questions long. He goes back on what he says including information that "you should know for the test" as well as when he hints that a quiz will be take home. He intentionally puts trick questions on the test.
Ghiladi is the definition of a loveable piece of crap. He makes a lot of sarcastic comments but they aren't usually directed at anyone in particular except himself so it's okay. He is a very clear, articulate lecturer and he very well knows his content. Pay attention and read the textbook and you should make a decent grade. Tests/quizzes are hard
Ghiladi is definitely one of, if not the hardest chemistry teacher on campus. If chemistry is a big part of your major, Ghiladi is the teacher for you. If your are taking chemistry for a gen ed requirement, do not take Ghiladi, he will weed you out.
Ghiladi is a good professor, but if you're not chemistry-inclined, avoid his class. He does not give back any exams or quizzes, but they are really hard. You have to be able to apply general knowledge to REALLY specific things.
His lectures are informative and you leave knowing a lot. His tests are hard so be prepared to study hard
Professor Ghiladi is a brilliant professor and ensures that he only provides engaging lectures. Despite his teaching style, this class is not easy -- at all. I could not recommend any other CH101 teacher over Ghiladi, but prepare to work yourself to your limit
While Ghiladi is super smart, while studying for the final, I've realized how much harder his work is than the other teachers. He expects much more from his students. He doesn't exactly follow the textbook and most of his tests are mostly calculations, without you being given a clear idea of what concepts you will be tested on. Very difficult.
Ghiladi is a great professor to get a firm foundation in chemistry from; although, if you want an easy A without caring about learning much then he is not for you. If you read the textbook and form a study group you will be fine. Not a class to slack off in. He responds to questions from students, even if it is at 2 in the morning...
Professor Ghiladi is very comical and straight forward. His test are very hard but if you study the notes you take in class and the homework you could come out with an B. He uses alot of the problems he works on the board in class on his exams. He is also conceptual so think critically in his class. If you don't like math you may find it very hard.
Use Koofers to review his previously given exams to study for the tests. The questions are similar and help prepare you for what to expect. His "pop quizzes" (he always hinted we would have a quiz the lecture before giving it) were hard, so make sure to study. Lastly, I know it is a pain, but read the textbook before lecture - it really helps.
Amazing professor. Occasional take home quizzes. However, if you're a chemistry major, I advise you not to take him. He covers less material than other professors (we skipped the solids chapter and the last two chapters lol). Rely on Koofers for your exam!! They are very similar to your exam. AND GO TO OFFICE HOURS FOR YOUR TEST.
He explains things well and is a nice guy, but his tests were very difficult. It's hard to tell what exactly he will test you on, because there's so much information. Some test questions would be about things he barely mentioned in class, while other times he would spend a lot of class time lecturing on something that was barely tested on
He expects way more than other professors so you gotta work a bit harder. With that being said, If you want to have a solid foundation take him.
Clearly knows what he is talking about, but fails to communicate this to students effectively. Spends entire lectures going over a subject that doesn't appear on the test, while also spending 5 minutes going over something that ends up being 6 questions. Doesn't pass back tests or quizzes. Said he wants people to get a C.
Ghiladi is a great teacher, but the class is very hard to make an A/B in. He gives 6 quizzes overall, 3 of which are take home, the other 3 are pop quizzes. He is very informative on topics and is entertaining. He makes jokes during lectures and answers questions. You must read the textbook and learn a lot of material outside of class to pass!
Don't take Ghiladi. I studied a week in advance for his tests and still didn't do well. Funny guy and nice and will help during office hours but his tests were long, like 65 questions, and really hard. has 3 pop quizzes, 3 take-home quizzes, also very hard. He doesn't tell you what to study besides master end of chapter problems(there are A LOT).
I took Dr. Ghiladi my first semester. Very tough class, requires keeping up with the material and staying on top. Fantastic teacher though. Explains everything very well and is always willing to help during office hours and truly cares about his students. People who don't work won't do well, but that's life. Definitely take him!
He loves to tell you when his "pop" quizzes are but even when he doesn't he makes tons of suggestions one's coming. Tests are alright, if you get the material you pass the test. Funny during lecture, really helpful in class and outside. Ideal professor for anyone looking to understand the material and pass. Also, he is God.
Ghiladi has great lectures full of important material. He is attentive to students' questions during lecture. Tests are difficult but always curved. They usually cover some material not discussed in class. Study a lot and read the chapters before class, it'll help your grade significantly. 6 "pop" quizzes, usually hinted at ahead of time.
Ghiladi is one of the few good Ch 101 professors at NC State. He goes through the material at a good pace and will answer any questions during class. He explains the material fairly well and is a very nice person. However, there are pop quizzes and 3 exams, so it is important to actually put a lot of work into the class.
Awesome chem professor! If you want a solid background in chemistry then he's the professor you want. Tests aren't that bad but he may try to trick you on a few questions. He also gives six quizzes, sometimes he will hint that you will have one. If you don't put in effort outside of class you won't pass.
Great lecturer but his tests are fairly hard. His pop quizzes are very hard too. Make sure you understand the materials and do not slack off. I personally did not read textbooks but just studied examples we went over in the lectures and did fine.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken, if you want to do well you are going to have to put in time outside of class. Tests can be tough but are always curved, has 6 pop quizzes but usually hints them beforehand. Extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic, lectures are good, humorous, and to the point. Very caring and great during office hours.
The tests are rather difficult, and he gives a few quizzes throughout the semester. I never took advantage of office hours, but those who did said that he explained things very well and did whatever it took to make them understand it. In retrospect, get a copy of Brown's chemistry to use instead of the poorly-written Webassign textbook.
His lectures are good, but some material is only available through lecture (not in the book) that is on the tests. He doesn't makes his PowerPoint slides available nor does he provide additional study material. While he does hand back scantron sheets from the tests, he doesn't give back the test questions till right before the final.
He's really a sweet man. His class was fun, a lot of demos he would light something on fire and tell us stories, like how he once burnt off all his arm hair. His tests can be hard, but if you study you'll be fine. We even got him to give us take home exams! A real gem!
Professor Ghiladi has a good personality but he does not make any of the slides in lecture available to the students. You have to take a lot of notes and I ended up teaching myself almost everything. A lot of the material he covered could be explained in much simpler terms than how he does it, making the class more difficult than it should be.
Ghiladi seems kind of scary at first, but if you actually talk to him he's really nice and cares about his students. You can get by without looking at the textbook, but it definitely helps to read it and do the practice problems because a lot of his test questions are straight out of the book. Things get a lot easier after the drop date too.
If you can make it past the drop deadline, you'll be fine. His class is really rough at first if you don't study well, USE THE END OF CHAPTER EXERCISES. He also becomes much easier after the deadline, gives you a pop attendance quiz, which will definitely help your grade. Use the exam review sessions too. Cool guy, tells pretty cool jokes sometimes
Dr. Ghiladi is an awesome professor. I loved his class and I love chemistry. But unfortunately, I got lazy and stopped reading the textbook. He does have pop quizzes and makes the homework's textbook-oriented and doesn't post lectures, but he's always happy to answer your questions after class. Wish I had done better, but it was my own fault.
Professor Ghiladi is a great teacher! Although his tests are hard, if you study and do practice problems you will pass. He does not take attendance but he does give pop quizzes and goes over things in lecture that are not in the textbook. The class also gets a lot easier after the drop date so you just have to hold off until then.
Tough tests
Ghiladi doesn't allow access to lecture slides outside of class. He gives "pop quizzes", but usually hints at them in advance. Our last 3 quizzes this semester were ones he did for us in class and then gave us the answers to bubble in. However, I am glad I took AP in HS because I think I would be confused in his class a lot if I had not.
Dr. Ghiladi has done the impossible: changing my intense dislike for chemistry. His lectures are clear and he makes sure to answer questions. His review sessions feature questions similar to his test questions, including tricky ones that are not covered in class! Also the class becomes easier after the drop date including the freebie pop quizzes.
Ghiladi is a great teacher who strives to make sure his students understand the lecture, and most of the time he succeeds. Go to his review sessions, he gives you questions similar to what will be on a test. The class is easier after the drop date (by the drop date I had a B). The only frustrating thing is that he doesn't give test questions back.
Professor is very smart and experienced, however his lectures are often confusing and hard to follow. Grades are heavily dependent on exams and the final. If you dont have to take this class for your degree I would advise to choose a different science class
He explains the material very well. He is also funny and tries to keep the students engaged. I highly recommend putting good effort into learning and practicing the material.
Makes you work for a good grade; requires you to invest sometime for chemistry everyday
Dr. Ghiladi is pretty good prof, but he comes off as cold and inconsiderate especially in the beginning of the semester. After the drop date he was much nicer and way more fun in lecture - he even gave out free quiz points. Don't expect to get all the info you need in lecture, taking notes from the textbook is a must.
I really enjoyed Dr. Ghiladi's personality but not his class. If you do not enjoy chemistry or haven't taken chem recently his lecture isn't for you, but if you are strong in it, TAKE IT . Other teachers give practice tests and tell you what to study, he does not. YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK. He curves all tests and does in class experiments!
Ghiladi is probably my favorite professor I have had so far. He has good lectures, but make sure to also read the textbook to get all the info you will need for tests. He curves his tests and gives multiple free quiz grades at the end of the semester. Be ready to work for you grade and study for his tests.
Reading the textbook ahead of the class is super helpful. He is clear with his teaching. He gives out random quizzes and doesn't post the power point for absolutely no reason. But this does force people to attend the class, since he doesn't take attendance. But since there are random quizzes, you shouldn't skip class.
Ghiladi definitely wasn't my first choice, and probably not my second but I got stuck with him anyways. He will seem really scary and intimidating at first but it's not terrible (he gets nicer towards the end of the semester). You'll have to work hard if you want to do well, I underestimated how difficult it would be, but don't worry.
One of the best professors I've had to date. I will warn you, this class is hard for the lazy, or those of us who had to learn how to study first semester freshman year. However, the work you'll have to put in is way worth the entertaining lectures.
ghiladi definitely knows what hes doing but always failed to account for his students who were not passing with flying colors. can't get tests back and told us at the beginning of the year not to come to his office hours. nice man just bad prof
I don't like chemistry. Still don't, actually. I can honestly say I enjoyed Dr. Ghiladi's class, though. His lectures were engaging and he did in-class demonstrations that were pretty interesting. Take good notes, go to his test reviews (your only chance to see previous tests), study hard, and you'll do okay.
Dr. Ghiladi is a tough but understanding teacher. Make sure to read the textbook and do the end of book problems for each chapter to be successful in tests and pop quizzes. Also, the problems he makes you write in class in your notes will most of the time be in tests. He is an amzing lecturer and breaks down the material to make you understand it.
Attendance is mandatory but is only checked at recitation. He is an understanding professor (I got 89.5 and he pushed it to an A-) and has chocolate if you go to office hours. Class is entirely lecture and 6 pop quizzes throughout. If you make it past the drop date, he will often walk through the quiz and give the answer. Do the practice problems!!
Really, really hard. I worked *so* hard in this class and struggled to pull a C. He has pop quizzes.
Dr. Ghiladi does a good job of presenting the material in class; however, you really need to study in order to get good grades on his tests. Attendance isn't taken, but I highly recommend going to class if you want a good grade. Most of his pop quizzes are done with the whole class toward the end, so they're easy grade boosters.
Dr. Ghiladi was amazing and funny. His lectures are interesting and helpful. If you have to take more chemistry after 101, would definitely reccommend. It felt like we learned more than other classes. He doesn't give much practice, so rework lecture and textbook problems. "pop quizzes" are not terrible, especcially if you say "Go ravens"!
Ghiladis tests are online but he presents them slightly different with different numbers. But you still have to pay attention to him and learn how to do everything to get a decent grade. Definitely needs effort. Pop quizzes!!
Ghiladi is a lighthearted and comical professor. He works to make class interesting and enjoyable with quirky jokes and the odd experiment or two. The class, like most chemistry classes, is textbook heavy, and Ghiladi does do pop quizzes. However, you usually know when pop quizzes are happening a couple days beforehand. Always bring a calculator!
Dr. Ghiladi is passionate and deeply knowledgeable about chemistry. I hate chemistry, but I enjoyed his class. He is calm, patient, responsive to questions, and very helpful in office hours. He's also very funny and tries to keep students engaged BUT his lectures are insanely fast-paced. I would recommend him even if you're not a science person.
He's your best bet for CH101. Sarcastic, funny and organized. Some days he would let us off on class. All quizzes were take home (open note, open book, etc). Our final exam ended up being open notes and open book, which was pretty kind of him. He used a curve, so our grade was determined by the class avg which turned my A- to an A+. TAKE HIM!!
What isn't this professor? Honestly he's a true legend. No, he is not an easy A. No, you can't breeze through it, but wow did I learn my stuff. You will learn. You will know what you are talking about. Pay attention to class examples!!!!!! I would take Ghiladi for every chemistry I have to take if I could.
Lectures were fast-paced but easy to follow. Take-home quizzes (50% of grade) were all open note and open textbook as well as the final exam. Was worried because the overall grade is based on the class average for this semester, but that changed my C- to a B. He was also very understanding of technological issues for attendance and submissions.
Funny, sarcastic, passionate. Wants his students to succeed. Read TB before class, attend lectures b/c he doesn't post slides. I loved the in-class demonstrations. Gives "pop-quizzes" which were really review sessions for the tests. Tests are fair, generously curved, and you will get an A if you study. Ghiladi is a real gem, TAKE HIM!
His class is tough, but manageable. Go to lecture, because he does not record lessons or put out notes. Read the textbook. He has office hours, but only if you have already used all other resources. Join a study/tutor group in preparation for the class.
Ghiladi is a great professor, very fun in class and lectures aren't too boring. Since he is a ravens fan, if the ravens win on a test day you'll probably get all the answers on the quiz from him. We had a 75 minute class and >50 MCQ questions on every exam while other classes had close to 30. If you study well, Ghiladi would be a great choice.
His lectures have all the information needed although reading the textbook can help with further understanding. Also rewriting notes is super beneficial (or at least for me it was). He'll say that there are pop quizzes but that's because he isn't sure what chapters they'll be for, but he always told us beforehand. Very helpful and well explained.
He gives out random pop quizzes for attendance, but this semester he gave the entire class the answers to all but one of the quizzes, so it was free grade boosting. His lectures are overly complex, so practice outside of class with Kahn Academy or ClutchPrep. His exams are straightforward. Study the vocab and concepts as well as the math processes
Ghaldi knows his stuff, he is a very knowledgeable professor when it comes to chemistry. He gives pop quizzes, but this semester he did most of them with us which was definitely a grade boost for the whole class. It was definitely a hard class and you NEED to study or you won't pass. I worked really hard to try to get a good grade and got a C.
This class was actually really hard. As this was my first semester in college this was much harder than I was prepared for. You must take good notes and read the textbook to fully grasp the concepts. He explains everything at a complex and difficult-to-understand level. He did most of the pop-quizzes with us excluding one. BE A RAVEN FAN!!!
Dr. Ghiladi is a great lecturer that I would definitely recommend. The class is tough but he is engaging and is very informative.
Really nice guy that knows what hes talking about. You need to put in the work though otherwise you wont pass. Take extra time to do outside practice problems and review lectures and you should be ok. Gives occasional free quizzes.
Dr. Ghiladi is straightforward and gives concise expectations. He gave many in-class examples that were helpful for exams. The only fallbacks that I felt disadvantaged me were not being able to get back previous exams as the final consists of comparable questions to past exams. I feel I could have done better in the class through more practice.
Professor Ghildai is funny and super helpful with pop quizzes, but his tests are very hard and he sometimes overcomplicates simple concepts. You definitely have to study for tests and the WebAssign assignments became more prevalent towards the end of the semester. Great guy, tough class.
I'm a fast learner & when choosing my professor his section was the only class available and although I passed his class with a B, I am more comfortable with his learning style. If you are a student who have other classes to prioritize then I DO NOT recommend him. Understanding the concept is the key to passing his class, TRUST ME, GO TO OFFICE HR!
Dr. Ghiladi was a good professor, but I found it hard to keep up with his lectures as everything is very fast pace. He also does not post lecture slide, let you take pictures of slides, or record his lectures. He does give pop quizzes, but he usually gives the answers to you for an easy 100.
Ghiladi is super cool, but his class was difficult. He doesn't post his slides, so if you skip lecture unexcused, good luck (he'll help out if its excused). You have to read the textbook & take notes. Very good lectures, funny professor, but difficult course. Did most pop quizzes w/ us but tests were very difficult. Bumped up D+s to C-s at the end
Professor Ghiladi makes lectures very interesting. He makes jokes and occasionally does experiments. The tests are very hard. He gives pop quizzes, but he hints to when they will be and occasionally, they are take home quizzes. Your grade is mostly based on tests as the HW is 10 points and quizzes are 25 each.
Dr. Ghiladi's class is not easy, but he genuinely wants you to succed. "Pop quizzes" are announced in advance and he gives opportunities to do better. Only some lectures are recorded and slides aren't posted so take notes from the textbook/in class. He provided strong prep for the final exam. Recommend if you have decent prior background in chem.
Dr. Ghiladi is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I came into this year worried about chemistry and came out loving the subject as a whole. His class is very difficult, but extremely rewarding. The class style is very lecture heavy, but he makes them interesting and fun to listen to. Become a fan of the Baltimore Ravens.
Great class overall but be ready to read the textbook. You'll do great if you study practice questions. Funny and entertaining professor.
Great class overall. Be prepared to read a lot.
If you haven't taken chemistry since the beginning of high school then good luck. There is no review chapter in this class. I attended most of the extra instruction sections and read each chapter of the textbook and still barely passed. Exams are difficult and if you fail one your grade probably won't recover.
I could never really make up my mind about Dr. Ghiladi; he seemed to be an alright professor and would even make some pretty funny jokes at times and went easy on quizzes. However, he taught material in an overly complex way for no reason, and tests were downright brutal even with studying. I unfortunately simply can't recommend him.
Very hard class if you have not taken chem since HS, but possible. The rundown on ghiladi is lectures are very helpful, along with textbook, quizzes are mostly free 100s, tests are brutally hard, and be a Ravens fan. In order to do well in this class you either need to have a very food foundation or be prepared to study pretty much everyday.
Professor Ghiladi has a tough class. The first few weeks were VERY stressful but once you get past the first test it mellows out. The tests are difficult compared to the other chemistry teachers, but there is a generous curve. His lectures are engaging and he's a funny guy. I would recommend him to anyone looking to also take higher chemistry.
Professor Ghiladi is a good professor, but you have better options at NC State. Exams were very hard, having averages around D+ (post curve). Read the textbook before lecture, as his lectures are fast-paced. Gave pop-quizzes, but warned about them and problems would be gone over in class. Bumped up grades at very end of semester, made B+ an A-.
This guy knows his chemistry and is very funny and likeable, but not great as a professor. He expects you read every chapter in advance of lecture and if you don't you'll be lost. Tests follow more textbook than lecture and are extremely difficult. Generous curves, but I thought I was legitimately going to fail. Very very difficult to keep up.
Avoid this professor! He skips the review/foundational material and expects you to know it already. Exams are multiple choice but extremely hard and unlike the homework. He's a fun lecturer but not worth it. Every exam was curved and the average was still around a C, curved our final grades and a good percentage of the class still failed.
AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!! His tests are ridiculously difficult because his lectures don't relate to exam material. He's a funny guy, but like the last guy said, it's NOT worth it. Midterm averages were around a D+ POST CURVE. His classes aren't helpful, but you have to go because he randomly gives pop quizzes. GL if you get stuck with him.
I'm reposting my review because R.M.P. DELETES negative reviews about him. You know he's terrible when bad reviews start getting censored. It's sad, because as a person he's a really cool goofball that's fun to be around. However, he makes the learning experience terribly difficult, especially when you're a freshmen and it's your first semester.
Great person not so great teacher. You learn and study through the textbook and YouTube videos, not him. He moves at a fast pace and you can tell he's a genius but struggles at teaching. Attending his lectures is practically useless and you are much better off studying the textbook. Yet you have to attend due to pop quizzes.
Professor Ghiladi, a maestro of academic catastrophe. 54 souls condemned to the abyss of failure on our first test..1/4th of our class. Winston Churchill said if you don't learn from history, you're bound to repeat it: learn from my mistake and flee. If you're stuck with him, God bless your heart. He's funny sometimes if that makes you feel better.
Funny guy, speaks clearly and answers lots of questions. However, class moves at an extremely fast pace. He gives random pop quizzes and absolutely NO exam review. Pretty much says pages 1-300 in the textbook are fair game for the exam whereas every other chem prof gives study guides/practice tests. Be prepared to put in time outside of class.
He is the absolute worst CH101 professor. Of all of the CH101 professors he is the only one who skips chapters and fails to post his slides or lecture videos. He claims to have a curve on the test but it is usually only 2-4%. No practice tests. Barely any resources, and what little resources are provided are absolutely nothing like the tests.
Awful. Just awful. Get ready to read because he doesn't teach half the chapters in the textbook. Lectures are incredibly fast paced and there is no videos are slides available even if you ask. Avoid him if it is possible at all. Terrible professor.
Definitely a difficult class with difficult tests -- probably too hard for a 100 level. There are easier professors at NC State. However, Dr. Ghiladi is an engaging lecturer, gives the answers to pop quizzes, and obviously cares a lot about chemistry. He won't baby you, so he's a great foundation if you plan to take a lot of chem.
He is a nice guy, but he is not a good teacher. There are 6 pop quizzes throughout the semester and sometimes he gives the answers or its old problems, but they are still annoying. Be prepared to read a lot outside of class and teach yourself most stuff. He doesn't allow you tot take pictures of the slides and he doesn't post the slides.
I don't know how I survived, I thought this class would be the death of me. He can be funny, but if you have no ap chem background you will do poorly in this class. Exams are hard af compared to other professors. He tells you not to contact him, and doesn't give any practice exams. There is not enough characters for me to convey my true feelings.
Not entirely impossible but miserable. Speeds through material yet gives so much more compared to other sections. Pop quizzes were mostly given with him walking us through the problems, which was great because I would've failed without them. Stay away if you want to enjoy your semester. Oh, and you better pray the Ravens are doing well that season.
To effectively take this class, you will need to funnel $250 million into the Baltimore Ravens football team and pray they win the super bowl. Do not take this teacher.
Prof G is definitely underrated due to the fact that he is teaching a weed out class (CH101). Quite a few people blame him for their poor grades when in reality its just a hard class that people take first semester. Can be very funny and while tests/quizzes are hard, he gives some freebees out throughout the semester. C is an actual average grade.
Professor Ghiladi is an awesome person but I can't really say the same for his class or teaching style. There will be pop quizzes so make sure you go to ALL of his classes. There was never a study guide or practice exam so it was difficult to study at times. His class would be great if it were for people majoring in chemistry. Pray the ravens win!
Ghiladi had a great sense of humor and understanding of the subject. However the exams were notably difficult compared to my peers with other professors, the absence of accessible resources like lecture recordings or slides made it challenging to review material, so if you can't keep up in lectures you won't be able to review his specific content.
Would not recommend taking his class if you struggled in high school chemistry. He is a really nice guy and would crack jokes during lectures but his tests were difficult for no reason. There is no test preparation at all and he doesn't post the slides or lecture recordings so whatever you write down during class is what you'll have to study with.
Ghiladi is a more difficult CH101 professor, but he's a great one. 4/6 quizzes were a garunteed 100%, being take home or worked out by him on the board. Attendance is NOT required, but be there for quizzes. Be prepared to either take textbook notes or heavy lecture notes. The class takes effort and is difficult at times, but he is very effective.
I'd rather sit on a hot grill than take his class again. Obvisouly, I can't blame everything on him, but the class was absolutely miserable. Almost half of both 240 person classes would fail every single exam. Be prepared to read the text book and do all the example problems because "everything is fair game". Bottom line - avoid if you can.
I'd rather sit on a hot grill than take his class again. Anything in the textbook is fair game so be ready to read and do ALL practice problems. I can't blame everything on him, but about 30-40% of the class would fail every single exam. Avoid if you can.
He clearly knows the material well but likes making his class as hard as possible for everyone. Most of the class fails each of the exams. There's not study guides, practice exams, or extra credit. You're expected to learn from textbook, not him, but most of what's in the textbook won't actually be useful. Lectures are fast paced.Avoid his class!
Prof. Ghiladi was okay, but he's not the kind of professor suitable for everyone. He's nice with quizzes and cracked a few jokes here and there and he does post videos on each chapter and practice problems, but the tests consume the bulk of your final grade which his review doesn't help well with. He can be good, but take him at your own risk.
Professor Ghiladi is an awesome person but I can't really say the same for his class or teaching style. There will be pop quizzes so make sure you go to ALL of his classes. There was never a study guide or practice exam so it was difficult to study at times. His class is great if it were for people majoring in chemistry. Pray the ravens win!
I would recommend you take CH101 with any other professor. I heard lots of them give practice tests and prepare you for the tests, unlike Dr. Ghiladi. I would have to read the textbook to understand what was going on during the lecture. He does give a few free grades but it is not enough to fully save your grade.
Be sure to read the textbook, his lectures are mainly useless as he talks about the history and fun facts (not on the test). Moves at a very fast pace. While the subject is not too difficult, his method is disproportionate to an introductory class.
Dr. Ghiladi is a tough professor, but reading the textbook and using tools like unstuck ai can really help. While lectures may not be the most useful, attending class is a must to stay on track.
PRAY THAT THE RAVENS WIN!!!!!
