Amazing Professor...Honestly, probably the best I've had my whole time at the University. He is always there for his students and explains things until he is SURE you understand them. I loved his class and learned so much from his style of teaching! He really made a hard sounding class fun.

If you want to make your life hard for yourself, join his class. He doesn't bother to explain himself, is unapproachable. More than learning a subject, you would have to learn politics and diplomacy to stay within his good books!
AMAZING PROF! Don't listen to the people who don't like him, it's just because they didn't study or take the class seriously. I loved his class! I wish I could take more classes from him, he made his class very interesting. He makes each person in the class feel like he's just talking to them. I'm going to miss his classes!
very unclear about what he wants out of his students. Unsympathetic to students and damn arrogant. And he marks quite strictly. Don't take his classes if you want a good grade. If you want to look at him and struggle thorugh a semester, take his class.
He is am amazing professor. He is very intelligent and very intimidating. He has a very sexy accent as well. I have taken a couple of classes with him before and he is by far the best professor I have had at the university.

Dr. Nakhaie is a rather funny guy, with a funny accent. At first he can be intimidating beacuse he's raising his voice and gets all red, but then..com'om! It's a 400 ppl class...LOL..As for his lectures..so far, the best...Thumbs up Dr. Nakhaie!
Dr Nakhaie is a great professor. I enjoy his classes and actually look forward to going to his classes. He makes my day, because hes so down to earth and funny. He explains his concepts very well. Best prof!!
He is one of my favourite profs. He is very funny and he knows what he is doing, 2 hours in his class passes by very quickly!
Good lecturer, but not very personal.
Dr. Nakhai is a professor that makes you hate how impersonal University is because you want to get to know him better. His accent is out of this world (turns out he is Portuguese) and his lectures are very entertaining. For sure a Communist. The only problem with the course is that the text, the lab text and his lectures are separate on the exams.
LOOOOOOVE this guy!! He is definately the most interesting teacher I have ever had. I just wish it were a little more plausible to get to know him personally.

He's funny in that corny way, and his accent is not difficult to understand. I don't know why people are so curious and so oblivious about his background. He's obviously Persian. For the many who don't know what they are, they're from IRAN (many ppl asked me). His class is fairly easy, so are the exams, I don't know what you guys are talkin about
Awesome professor, very entertaining and teaches the material very well. The lab textbook (all the debates) are soo boring and hard to read, though.. and a big chunk of the exam is on that.

an amazing prof. one of my favorites by far. very entertaining and knowledgeable. makes concepts easy to understand. going to class highly recommended.
amazing prof. listen for his hints before exams and it should be a breeze. i made the mistake of not being in the class for 2 weeks, don't make that mistake EVER. his lectures are fascinating. especially when he talks about "his buddy Marx". overall a he's a very well rounded prof.

I LOVE HIM! He is such a sweetheart. You can tell he loves his job and he is GREAT at it. I would recomend that you take his course. If you have any questions, never hesitate to ask him, he will help you do anything needed to do good in your university career.
Very funny man, he's not so biased towards things which is good. Often big classes however if you need assistance he's helpful in that manner.
I like this course VERY much and he makes you look 4ward coming 2 his class. He is organized and provide an outline 4 his lecture on CLEW which is VERY helpful. This is a prof that wont make you sleep in his class. If you keep up with the reading and make your own notes as welland attend class....you will definately pass with a b+ or higher.
Intelligent, but I think he has some personal problems - came across as somewhat irritable and preachy. Very personally involved with race/ethnicity - so much so that what was supposed to be an intro to SOCIOLOGY was an intro to racial/ethnic issues. Very unclear on expectations for papers. Readings were horrendous -- way above 1st year level.

Funniest prof.. he makes fun of his accent all the time! He makes this class enjoyable w/ all his crazy stories. Talks about ethnicity and race a lot.. readings were TERRIBLE!

Dr. Nakhaie is a fantastic professor. his course is hard and he marks hard, but he is fair and helpful. For those who have made the comment that he is too hard, what do you expect? This is university, not grade school. He just makes you aware of what is ahead. I'll take a course with him again anytime.
Good teacher. If you listen in class and type what he says you should be fine. however, not much clarity to written assignments, don't be afraid to ask questions and make sure you understand what you have to write about. otherwise, exams tested the validity of the lectures and textbook.

Dr. Nakhaie is an amazing professor! I have never been so excited to attend a 2/3 hour lecture and be sad to see it over. His midterms are very fair and his lectures are clear to follow if you use his notes and add examples. His class lured me to add Sociology as a second major. He is excellent at helping students understand lectures through logica
explanations and concise knowledge. I am hoping to enroll in more classes that he teaches!
Great professor makes class enjoyable, and has a great sense of humor. Easy material with generous midterms and plus 5% bonus for forum participation. Good class, good proff the only this i can complain about is the lab readings long and boring. I would definitely recommend him to anyone and i would gladly take another course with him.
Nakhaie's a great lecturer and a really funny guy. I had him for intro soc, which is a really easy course. Just don't come in late to his class or he'll call you out on it, and make sure if he assigns you something you read the guidelines really carefully, because he's pretty particular about that. But overall it was a pretty fun and easy class.
I dont know if i disliked him or the class itself. He jumped around a lot in the lectures and his facts were not consistent with what was printed in the text
He is a confusing and hard to understand because he talked to fast.
He was a useless professor, his book was full of errors and the labs were not organized well at all. The intro class was not intro at all it was way too in-depth for having no prior knowledge of sociology. This is the worst class I have ever taken.
He's full of himself. His lectures are explanations of his past experiments. Which if you like it, I guess is okay. I hated it. Egotistical and not practical. I went to the labs and did the readings after a while because I couldn't take his class.

Great professor. He will likely be intimidating to you at first if you've never had him as a prof. However, I suggest you go to his office hours and get to know him because he's very helpful. Another suggestion is going to class for further explanation and do NOT be late!
His papers are extremely confusing, and they have almost nothing to do with his lectures. He himself does not even know what he's looking for in the papers. He replies to emails late or never. You can't submit papers online. His instructions are misleading. And if you don't buy book, you fail.
Avoid at all costs. He seems like a good professor at first, very outgoing and friendly but he's very condescending and pressures his students. Essays are straightforward but he is a hard marker and midterm was confusing. His participation grade is 15% and asks very difficult questions while pressuring students to go into detail.
One of my favourite professors. He's brilliant - really helps you understand the concepts rather than blabbering on about nonsensical things. You have to do a lot of readings but other than that I was intrigued by all of his lectures. A highly philosophical man too, which was enjoyable.
Dr. Nakhaie is brilliant, simply put. Yes, he is not the easiest professor out there but he will make you push yourself to thinking in new ways. You definitely need to focus and work hard in his class but the pay off is so rewarding. Not an easy A but definitely a mind-altering experience.
Reza is a very knowledgeable professor. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and ensures you understand topics by offering extra clarification. His high level of intelligence is definitely reflected in his lectures. He is definitely one of my favourite professors thus far.
Took Reza's class twice and found him to be outstanding. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate, will force you to really think about things. Great guy and awesome lecturer.
Dr. Nakhaie is great if you put in the work. His lectures aren't boring at all but participation matters. He is helpful and accommodating if he sees you are putting in effort and actually taking the class seriously. Assignments and tests aren't that complicated. Basically, you need to do your part as a student to be able to enjoy the class.

Worst prof ever. You have to really really really put the time and effort into everything you do just to get a 70 in the class. One of the GAs even dropped the class halfway through and I dont blame him.
Prof. Nakhaie is one of the most interesting profs I've ever had. He's very passionate about his work. You have to go to every lecture but his tests are fair to his lectures (exact words). Very nice guy, always willing to help. Only prof who doesn't read from a slide and actually is knowledgable. Gives you exact hints on the quizzes.
He's a good prof. Approachable and dosent make you feel dumb when asking questions in class.

Reza Nakhaie is extremely smart and he is a very good professor. His classes are challenging and really make you think, but if you pay attention and read the book, you will succeed. I got a 91 in his class. He is brilliant. All the people complaining below must not have had a very hard work ethic, because I look forward to his classes.
Dr. Nakhaie is an excellent professor. He wants you to succeed and pushed you to think in ways you have never thought of before. Yes, the material is hard, but he is very fair and provides lots of help. Really no excuse to do poorly in the class.
An outstanding professor who actually cares. He opens your mind up to a lot. Like everyone said, the class is kinda difficult but the payoff of succeeding is rewarding.. I would strongly recommend taking a class with Reza Nakhaie

Do not like him at all. He is a very tough grader and not very approachable. I tried emailing him once, and he was rude in his response back. He likes to give pop quizzes and his lectures can be boring. If you're expecting to get a high mark in a class, then don't take it with him.

This prof repeats himself over and over again about the same information. He is a very tough grader, he grades like he is on steroids. I really found lectures to be plain and very boring. I really do not recommend taking a class with this prof unless you really wanna struggle to even get a good grade. The essay criteria are not clear at all.
Honestly the worse professor I've ever had in all of university. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. Honestly you shouldn't be a professor. Our first essay gave no advice on what he wanted then wrote all over my paper I didn't give the relevance for what I said but only allowed 850 words include title page and references. class average is a 50
the worst prof I've ever had in my life. He is the hardest marker of all time and coming from a person that gets good marks I struggle to even pass this class. He has no sympathy for anything and he does not care at all if you pass his class or not. The class average is about a 45 and there are about 6-7 people in my lecture that are retaking it.
It's unfortunate that he was the ONLY prof' to teach this class & because it was a mandatory class for me, there was not way around it. I asked him before the start of the semester if I could write the midterm another day because of MY WEDDING, & he said that wasn't an acceptable excuse. WORS.T TEACHER. EVER.
Honestly this class was the worst class I have ever taken, over half the class failed the first midterm and he said it was because we don't know how to study properly. very confusing lectures and talks insanely fast it may be hard to understand him. The bell curve at the end was so high my mark jumped up over 10%
I usually receive good marks for my essays, not for this class. Also got marked on 3 things, with one of them being worth 50%. Why? The sad thing is that his classes are usually mandatory and you'll end up stuck with him eventually. Try avoiding at all costs.
exam worth 50%, term paper worth 30%, and 10% for class participation. absolutely horrid way to earn a grade and a headache trying to even understand the outlines. uses an unedited, unpublished, self-authored textbook that is hard to nagivate. really tried to like him and his class but was left frustrated and disappointed.
If this class is not required, avoid it at all costs if you want to keep your GPA and sanity. The textbook is self-authored and unpublished, and the two essays, which account for 40% and 50% of the grade, are entirely based on it. The 10% participation mark is also unattainable.
This prof has lots of knowledge but fails in being able to clearly articulate his teachings. He uses his own self written textbook(Props as this is a hard thing to do) But in this textbook it is very choppy and it is tons and tons of what seems like repeated material in different words. All 3 of the papers i wrote for this class were challenging .
Horrible prof. GAs mark the papers so strictly that it is impossible to do well. So disheartening to do bad on a paper you spent so much time on. Graded by two exam and a paper, exams are hard only bc they rely so much on the textbook. Wish a different prof taught this as it is required for my degree and i have Had to take it twice now.
Do yourself a favour and avoid taking this class if it's not required. This is the worst class and professor I've ever come across. He had to round everyone's grades up and add a couple points because more than half the class did poorly on his exams. The TA's are no help either. If you were wondering about a "weeding out class" this is one of them.
Dr. Nakhaie is the best professor I've had in university so far! He very obviously cares about his students and loves teaching. He explains things very clearly and makes it really easy to understand concepts. His tests were all multiple choice, and if you paid attention they are easy. I'd love to take more classes with him in the future, 10/10.
By far one of my favourite teachers. He gives many examples and explains things in different ways making sure students understand, he always asks for questions before moving on. His exams/midterms/grading are tough but not impossible. He is very clear on what is looking for in essays.
Dr. Nakhaie is an amazing professor. He works in best interest of his students and encourages classroom discussion and participation. In my opinion, his tests are very difficult as they rely on memorization, but his papers are very easy and fun to write.
Dr. Nakhaie knows a lot about theory, but he is very racist towards colored students and always favors white students. it is a shame since he is a person of color.
Dr Nakhaie was an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and it shows. Along as you show up to lectures and do the required reading you will get a good mark. His exams are fair and reasonable and his lectures are extremely interesting.
Dr. Nakhaie's lectures were information overloaded and disorganized. He was a nice person but was very hard to get a hold of and the TAs were tough graders. We were graded on 3 papers, 2 midterms and a final. Overall, he seemed passionate about the content but it was a very confusing and difficult class to follow.
