Math is hard for me, but Reza makes it less painful. Really fair and supportive. If you have questions on ANYTHING, he is helpful but you HAVE to ask. It DOES take practice and work for you to earn an A, it's only fair. Be an adult and work for you grade and he will be the person on your corner. Book not really needed, print some pages separately.

Reza is a great teacher & is very understanding. He's always available for office hours! He motivates you to do better and doesn't give up on you! You get emails of what is due & when exams are. As long as you do homework and practice problems, you will pass! Participation/attendance is mandatory. Not a lot of hw! No textbook needed, PDF.

Reza is awesome. I took his class for fun & was astonished how awesome of a guy he is and a better of a teacher he is. A lot of the information was very easy so I sometimes wished he would speed it up but watching and listening, a vast majority of the class had difficulty & he showed EVERY method possible. A+ guy. Care, try and he will do the rest

After experiencing some of the other math teachers at de anza I realized that Reza is a great teacher. I learned so much in his class, his lectures were easy to follow, and he is hilarious! He makes you work for it like any good prof would. If you put in the work you will get the results you want, easily. He never gives up on his students!

GREAT PROFFESOR

2 midterms, 2 presentations, quizzes and 'homework' quizzes which are given randomly so coming to class every day is really crucial. Our class did not do really well on the 1st midterm and he gave us a chance to make up for it by doing additional 'exam' quizzes. He wants all of us to get A if possible, kind of unpredictable class but very enjoyable

He is a great professor. Lectures are clear and fun. He focuses on how we can use our knowledge in our future careers. Midterms weren't tricky, presentations were in interesting topics. It is possible to get a good grade in this class, just make sure you work hard for it and be careful. You should be prepared for the pop quiz too.

It's fascinating how there's actually a math professor on this campus who is engaging and deeply cares for his students. One of the best teachers I've had. Everything regarding grading and material was done fairly.

One of the most caring teachers I've had at De Anza. I struggled a lot this quarter due to personal issues and he was nothing but supportive and encouraging whenever we spoke. His class is very organized, he tells you exactly what to practice, but there are a lot of pop quizzes so keep up with the material he teaches every day. He's also very funny

All he wants in the class is to help us get an A. But I have to admit this class is not ez at all, and there was tons of h/w. Very unpredictable class cuz he curved the point.

Simply put, Reza is amazing! The grades you get on your exams don't necessarily mean that's the grade you get in the course. He really cares and wants you to get an A. Even if you fail the first two or three exams, as long as you show an upward trend in your exams and that you're putting in the work, he'll give you an A. Highly recommend!

Reza cares about students a lot and wants you to learn the concept and be able to apply the concept in any problem. His lectures are easy to follow and homework help you to understand the works you did in the class. If you want to learn and also get good grade he is the best. I strongly recommend him.

Class is difficult but he truly cares about you learning the subject. Just study hard and show up to class. Also be prepared for many pop quizzes!

Most difficult class taken in my 4years of Cc&Uni, yet the charisma & passion he has for life, math, and teaching is the fuel that kept me pushing through this class. Tests were the hardest when put in front, but when he goes over them it's clear that its been gone over in class. He pushes you to teach yourself, he's only a guide to help you learn.

First time I've ever had fun in a math class. His lectures are entertaining and inspiring. You can tell he has genuine care for his students. His love for math and teaching is infectious. He will make time for you. He cultivates a culture of learning and mutual respect in his classroom. You'll learn a lot.

His notes are very organized and detailed. He'll gladly help you with any questions you have with the material such as section problems, example problems, etc. Only downside I have with him is his office hours are once a week, but he has another full time job too so i get it. The exams are not too easy nor too hard study enough and you'll be fine.

Here's the deal with Dr. Shariatmadari: If you don't like Math, or want an easy A, don't take his class. If you like Math, or know the material and want to test yourself, take his class. His courses are an experience. His exams really test whether you know your material. He's a helpful and caring professor, who genuinely enjoys what he does.

To be concise, Reza is an excellent professor. He cares about you, wants you to succeed, tough grader but you'll be happy in the end. Challenge yourself and take his class. Final grade is the most important thing that will affect your grade. I got all A+ in Calculus and struggle to get a B in his exams. As well as you try your BEST, you'll get A.

Most interesting Math professor at De Anza. But that doesn't mean his classes are easy; In fact, its quite the opposite. Reza is quite the challenging professor that will bring the best out of his students. I would recommend him to anyone that wishes to test themselves for transfer.

He shows great enthusiasm for math and learning in general. His lectures were clear and understandable, and he tries to make sure everyone grasps the concepts. He grades tough, but if you read the book and study diligently, you'll be in good standings to perform well on quizzes and tests. Overall a great and respectable teacher.

He is so amazing professor. He tries to teach real stuff. Well organized and helpful lecture. He cares about students a lot. He is soooooo good.

Basically if you pay attention and do the work it'll be so easy. Be consistent with reading the book that he gives and make sure you finish the project he gives you because that's 50% of your 2nd midterm. if you slack off like me you'll def struggle

I will start by saying that this class isn't for everyone. Fast paced, and loads of information to cover. That being said, success in his course is based on persistence and practicing problems outside of class. Prof Reza really cares about his students and you will see that he respects those who make efforts to improve throughout the quarter.

Prof Reza goes through the material fast but as long as you actually study at home then you're good. Study each chapter and do the practice tests in the textbook. He doesn't grade based off homework that much so doing good in the quizzes and exams is crucial. He wants you to succeed so if you work hard then he will give you the grade you deserve.

Reza is a tough teacher that wants his students to actually learn calculus. The class is not an easy A and his tests are difficult, but despite what you score on the exam, if you can prove to him that you understand what he taught, you will pass. This was my third calc class taken and although this one was beyond more difficult, Id take Reza again.

Great professor. If you're looking for an easy A in calculus, take it with another professor. Reza's class is tough, but he is really caring and he'll help you every step of the way. He holds lengthy office hours where he helps you practice. Also, he'll pass you if he sees that you're trying.

leaving the first-class I said "Wow, I've never had a Professor like him" He helps you think outside the box and relates math and numbers to things we can easily understand. Like great videos on paintings, photos, and all different shaped objects. He pushed me out of my comfort zone and because of that I learned. He is tough, but its cares us.

He was always in office hours. Always available by email. Is always willing to give extra credit. Always answered questions after class. No expensive textbook. Awesome personality. All you have to do is show up to his class every day. It is a math class, its not supposed to be easy, but this instructor will really get you through it.

I was in the same class as some of the people with scathing reviews, and would like to add that not all of us had the same experience. We did a lot of group work in the class, and I found this to solidify my understanding of the subject material. Reza has a real passion for math, and I enjoyed his lessons. Hard class, but very rewarding.

Personally, I enjoyed having Reza as my professor. Yeah the class was hard, but we were literally told that on the first day. He gives extra credit and allows you to make up some quiz grades if you did badly.

I have no clue what people are saying when his class is not knowledgable. His classroom environment is very informative and interactive and is a very respectable man WHEN you listen to his words. If you study and get a bad grade and talk to him, he WILL help you out. Yes, his class is difficult but he will explain when you ask questions.

Although this class is extremely difficult, I enjoyed his enthusiasm and passion. The bad ratings are most likely from students who always had an attitude in class. He is always available during office hours and answers questions through email frequently. He is one of my favorite professors at De Anza. But, be prepared to put in a lot of work.

He's a really good discrete professor. I found his lectures engaging and fun. One of the few hidden gems of math professors at De Anza. He teaches here for fun and has a full time job at SCU. Sometimes relates the class to programming. Paying attention to his lectures is the easiest and most important way to learn. Gives the grade people deserves.

Gives quite a bit of ECs. Other ppl here with the lower ratings were probably the people in the back that never pay attention. He's a tough grader but is always available during office hours. He'll raise your grade if he sees the effort, despite what the actual results are. He changed someone's grade from C to B in the past.

students who gave a bad rating didn't study hard enough + didn't listen to him when he stated that hard work would be rewarded. he continuously said that all students had the chance to raise their grade (significantly) if showed u progressive improvement on tests throughout the quarter. Take him!!! You wont regret if u r willing to put in the work!

Study hard and you'll do well. The class is undoubtedly hard, but Calculus is hard so get over it. Practise is very important. Attend the lectures because they are very interesting and deal with the application of Calculus along with techniques.

Professor Reza was so terrifying on the first day, I almost cried. However, if you stick with the class you will not regret it. He is tough and blunt, but the textbook and resources he provides are really good and almost fun to read. He is a very tough grader but gives a lot of opportunities to make up for bad grades. You're fine if you read.

Professor Reza is one of the best professors I have ever met. He loves math very much and he cares about his students. He not only imparts knowledge, but also stimulates students' enthusiasm for mathematics, so that they can really master and use knowledge. If you really want to learn something rather than get an easy A, take his class.

It is the best class I have ever took at de Anza . The teacher is taught but you will learn a lot with him. He uses to ask to read the chapter before going to class. He is the best professor at De Anza I've had. He seemed really intimidating at first, but he chills out over the rest of the quarter. Yes, you need to have camera and participate a lot, but that makes the class more interesting and enjoyable. I always looked forward to his lectures. Tests are hard, but he rounds up your grade. I went from C to B+.

Professor Reza is a great lecturer and I absolutely loved our class. He is very clear and if you listen to what he recommends you to do, you are gonna be fine. He cares about his students future and even when he is teaching, you can see he loves math. Take him if you want to learn something and do not take him if you are only looking for an easy A.

Just participate in the class, professor loves you, professor loves student working, test might be unfair, 3 exams holds 90% of your grade, but you'll never believe how much you learn from clear concise and easy lecture and how much you are respected with your hard work

Seems scary at first but is actually very nice, if you put in the work and participate in class. A lot of extra credit and group work which makes up for difficult tests. Grading was subjective (he gave me extra points when I skipped problems/got them wrong), final was an essay based on the textbook. He cares about students and will help.

he's tough on students, but his reasoning for doing so becomes more and more valid as you get better in the course. Try not to get disappointed if content feels out of your control, it's more about being flexible with your approach and being able to deduce off of your own logic. He is by far the funniest guy that I have ever been scared of

He is a interesting personality, would be great if he wasn't your professor. He is a bit harsh when you first meet him but he tells you how it is. He won't coddle you and he will put you on the spot. You know what you are getting when you first meet him. Do all the extra credit he offers, even if it seems long, it helps your final grade so much.

He'll go over concepts well and answer questions you have during office hours and in class but you need to self study a lot, something he tells you from the get go, in order to do reasonably well on his quizzes which are midterm-esque. He sounds scary, but he's fair and caring. Show a lot of effort and do the EC it'll help your grade so much.

You probably won't receive an A in the class, but you will really learn. Tests are brutal. He's the only teacher that ever made me cry (sad grades) and laugh (hilarious stories). You will have to work your butt off to get a B, but if you're here for learning, it will be worth it... math will be your life for that quarter tho (I spent 15 hrs min)

He is passionate about math. To succeed, you need to read the textbook before his lectures (which are both hilarious and amazing), do literally every problem in the book, and volunteer in class. Don't look at your grade and instead focus on your learning. Ask questions, jump at every opportunity to volunteer, and laugh at his stories and jokes.

HARD but worth it. Doesn't provide many resources. He will introduce a topic in class and you are expected to learn everything else yourself. 6 HW assignments, 2 midterms, and 1 final. That is the entire grade so don't slack. Seems intimidating at first but if you ask for help and participate in class, he is very supportive and encouraging.

The group discussion part is the most joyful section throughout the entire quarter. Lenient grader and provide class note. If you go to the office hour, u can get a A+ for sure.

He is very clear about what he expects from us at the very beginning. Be expected to do reading on your own time and research some of the concepts he goes over in class. He is here to guide you but you are mainly responsible for your work. Comedic, a great lecturer, realistic workload, tough tests though, but don't let that discourage you.

There was a group project that we worked on the entire quarter which was 30% of our grade (this was in place of a final exam). There were no clear guidelines about the project. There's 3 tests and barely any hw. Reza does have a very unique way of teaching that I really enjoyed but others didn't. This class is a lot of work, but it's very rewarding

Final exam is a semester-long group project. He is a tough grader and expects a lot from students. Making the bare minimal effort will not fly in his class. If you want to challenge yourself with a hard class, take him. At the end, Reza will take into account your progress over the quarter and give your final grade accordingly.

Do recommended homework & read text *before* class and come to class ready to engage -- then class will be so fun! I could've done a lot better if I tried more. I have never liked math, but I found it almost enjoyable/inspirational after taking this Professor. He's all about true understanding. The lectures were engaging and kept me interested.

He seems scary at first. I am anxious in class but i do my best. Do the homework and attend lectures. He is willing to help you out, to understand the material better. I got a lot of insights from him even though I am scared. He is hard because he wants you to success in the future. I never thought I will like the class, but in the end I like it!

Great teacher, but he is very blunt and straightforward. A no nonsense type of guy. Come prepared by reading the required material and don't skip class! If he sees that you are attending every class and putting in the effort to learn the material then he will help and support you. If he sees that you are doing the opposite of that then good luck!

Test are a bit tricky, but if you practice, should be fine. Unlike traditional teaching where you follow instructor from start to finish, he emphasizes working on the problem failing at it, reanalyzing it and then solving it. You have to fail many times to appreciate math, and build intuition. There are no shortcuts.

Reza has definitely raised the bar for how a professor should be, made us do the work while learning doing that work. Sometimes some of the things he does are very questionable. But without a doubt, one of the better teachers out there. Also if your too sensitive, please don't take the class. He's a little rough on the edges.

Professor Reza is the type of person to teach you new things. In this class, we don't work on things we already know. What's the use in that? In this class you will get challenged!!! If you're sensitive or get hurt easily don't take this class. Reza has been the realist professor I have had.
