He is a very talented teacher who takes time to explain things to the student. He makes learning biology fun and interesting. His tests, however, are a bit challenging. You really need to study in order to do well, but he is always willing to help out.
He is a great teacher and is always willing to help if needed. His tests are difficult.
Great teacher! Exams are tough, the final is the hardest. Have to study to do well
I agree with some others here that his tests are hard, but he's a good teacher and I still got a good grade!
LOVE IT! He uses lots of fun things in order to teach and is always willing to help out! Yes, his tests are hard, you have to know how the CONCEPTS apply and not just memorize things, but he is great at teaching and a lot of fun.
One of the best teachers i have had, I love his lectures, if you know the conceptd then you will do fine on the tests. If you can take his labs they are even better then lecture.
This class in general is very hard. Rhett does a great service by having a website with study links and he presents his own slide show. He answers questions with funny analogies to help everyone understand. If you do not study hard you will not do well in this class period.
teacher did no chapter reviews, or sum. tests are different then study materials. on our first exam the class average was a 66%. horrible teacher, young and cocky
The second time I've taken this class. i think this professor is better than the last one I had. He is very organized with lecture notes all available for the students and a good website for help. He talks a little bit to fast though.
The lecture consists mainly of cartoon animations. For me, they are distracting. There is no outline for the lectures. I find it hard to study from pictures, which is what the lecture notes are. I wish he would provide some sort of study guide for the tests. By the way, I'm not doing bad in the class, but I find the teaching style annoying.
My sister told me to take this professor cause she had him last year. It was hard at first but I’m really starting to get it now and doing pretty good. He is very nice and helpful. Best part is you can download lecture slides and bring to class to take notes on. I think this is a good teacher for a hard class!
This is a prety hard class, but he makes it much easier to understand. But don't take this class if you are easily distracted because it's so hard to concentrate on the notes with a professor who is a hottie to the extreme.
Very fast and only uses power point in class and nothing else. You dont even need to open your book.
HARD CLASS!!! But biology should be so. He makes everything sound so easy but I didn't understand nothing. I think on a test of 10 question I got one right by luck. Very frustrating to the point my friend stop listening and started text messaging in class. I drop the class. But I think he might have been an easy teacher Oopps!!!
I love this class! I thought I would hate it but Im learning a lot of amazing stuff. Tests are tricky and you must pay attention in class. He will ask test questions from class not the book.
Tests are worded very complexly
It took me a couple of tests until I knew how to do well in this class. The tests definitely are hard he expects alot from you. But he's a good teacher that explains things very well in class. Just study!!!
Great teacher, and helpful in understanding, but crazy hard class.
Great guy and a great instructor; knowledgeable of the subject matter. However I did find his test somewhat difficult to understand. I studied profusely and was never able to get an A. I don't know what it is exactly but the wording on the exams were kind of confusing and perpetuated second guessing. Overall though still a great Prof.
For the love of GOD don't take this guy! Median grade on 5 Normal tests NEVER got above a 68%. I didn't miss on class, studied very hard, and was lucky to pull a "C". I haven't received anything less than an "A" in four years. Very smart instructor, speaks to you as if you were a Grad student. Doesn't use the book, so that was a wasted $150.
I have only had one biology class at ccsn so I can't compare to other professors but I thought he was good. He uses mostly the projector and some board. He gives you the projector notes but its not enough to study. Its a hard class. I had him for the lab class too and that helped ALOT! Definitely recommend that.
VERY HARD!! I dropped his class after first Exam. He told the class median grade was 58% (F). Out of over 30 students not even 10 passed the class. If you take this professor make sure you take excellent notes because exam question are based on lecture not text.
I had this class last year with this professor. I think it was just a very hard class (but I passed). He explained things pretty well and by the end I did much better on the tests and quizes. Be sure to pay attention to everything in class!! It will be on the test.
Okay, this guy is hard. His lectures are on one level and his testing is on another level. When I appoached him, his comment was "study". I understood his lectures, but when it came to testing, holy moly, did we cover that. He might have a higher success rate if he came down a peg or two on his testing. At least match his lectures. It is horrible!
I am in the nursing program now. I had this teacher two years ago. He is pretty hard, but I think the people complaining just don't know how to study and probably have bad grades. I thought it was bad at the time but its not that bad. Plus he is interesting and willing to help you (some arent) Good luck!
he is a great teacher! He can teach you plenty of things but you have to make sure you really pay attention! And dont let his good looks fool he is a tuffy! Be prepared to work your butt off.
He is very good and recommended. He listens to students and tries to help them understand and to pass the class. It was hard but I passed and it was my first biology class ever. I would take him again.
Yes, his exams are really tough. You have to study a lot to pass this course. Getting an A with an easy professor is useless compare to having a C with tough professor. Passing his course means u really understand his subject very well. This professor is highly recommended because he knows how to prepare his students on the next level.
I thought he was great! Not boring as my lab teacher.
This is an easy class if you listen to his lecture and take his advice on how to study for his exams. Real A students will pass with an A and not complain on how difficult this subject is. Dedication and discipline will lead you to success! He wants you to reach your goals, nothing less. He's a great instructor.
I would highly recommend taking his class! Though it's a difficult course, he explains everything thoroughly and does everything in his power to help you understand the material. Also, he makes the Powerpoint slides & videos used in lecture ailable on his website every week, which is INCREDIBLY HELPFUL to study for tests!
As others have pointed out the class is extremely hard, but a good grade is to be had for those that are willing to put in the time and effort to study. The last Science class I took was in 1983 and yet I was able to get through with an above average grade. Good luck!
He is an awesome teacher. The lecture was great, and his power point slides helped. I still had to pull a "W" for this class, I just didn't test well with him, but thats my fault not his. But his tests are TRICKY! So watch out for them. Otherwise his class was a lot of fun, and he was willing to work with you if you had any problems.
You must study for this class. Dr. Michaelson is there to guide and you have to meet him half way. Read ahead and his lectures are much more clear. Take notes and ask questions. 5 exams and comprehensive final + quizzes.
This is a very difficult course. Dr. Michelson is very understanding but his test are not easy. There are a total of 5 test and final exam and 5 quizzes in between. He drops the lowest test score.
Great teacher, super helpful.... and you definately get the grade you deserve so study!!! I recommend taking his class...and lab makes things so much easier...
awesome teacher. you definitely have to study. I suggest reading the lectures and the chapters and you should do fine on the tests.
Really good. He teaches the way I like it. Its personal and interesting. But the class is not easy and I had to work really hard to get a B. I had him for lab too and he was great.
Rhetts a bit fast paced... however all his lecture power points are released on line weekly. so just take a breath and do short hand notes that refer to the slides and your going to do fine his lab is awesome.. but don't procrastinate the research paper He's always willing to help after class with explain had concepts best of luck all
He is really good about answering questions and trying to make sure everyone understands. He also gives you his notes and many ideas about how to study, but you definitely need to do a lot of studying on your own too. The class is pretty hard and the tests can be tough.
Power points are very helpful. He answers questions to individual's level. Doesn't require students to know anything that he doesn't lecture on. However, you do have to know how to apply info, which can be difficult. He is an absolute gem of a teacher. The subject itself is hard. Studying is critical.
GREAT PROFESSOR!! KNOWS WHAT HE IS TEACHING AND IS HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT TAKES TO PASS THIS CLASS. YOU HAVE TO STUDY AND BE ABLE TO APPLY WHAT YOU LEARNED AS WELL. ENJOYED HIS CLASS BUT GETTING A B TOOK A LOT OF WORK.
His test and quizes really make you think (what a concept)and can be challenging but hes a great prof, gives power point notes and will explain in more depth if you don't understand. Extremely friendly and helpful. Take him!
dont get him
I didnt think I would like the class, but he made it quite interesting. I started out with a pretty low grade, the stuff is hard and the test questions aren't easy, but I'm doing good now and I think I will get at least a B and maybe an A. I just wish I had him for lab too. He makes things much clearer and posts all his notes online.
I love his way of teaching. He is very clear and entertaining enough most of the time. He repeats a lot to make sure people get the most important points. His tests are still pretty tough though. You need to spend a lot of time studying so that you know the stuff very well. He does not teach 223, too bad.
As good as it gets when it comes to Bio 189. Always willing to help the student understand the material, good-natured, pleasant, good sense of humor, knows his stuff. Great guy, great instructor...moves thru the material a little fast - and still didn't cover it all! You can't go wrong if you take Michelson, Mahrt, or Leary for BIO 189.
Great class and great professor! Very helpful and tells upfront what his requirements are. Powerpoint slides are very easy and tests are limited to those. No book required.
wonderful teacher.he loves to teach and knows his info.tests and quizzes are right off notes. didnt even open my book once.he goes a little fast, but his door is always open if you need help. i would take him again if he was teaching 223.
great teacher. never opened my book.maybe once to look up definition. test completely off his notes, but he makes you think.as long as you understand notes you will be fine. he is always willing to help you understand. record lectures cause he can move a little fast.
dont know what all the fuss is about, he is ok of a professor but not the great. he lectures and test's of his power point slides, and doesnt post them online until the wknd b4 the test!!! so you have just a couple of days to study and same goes for grades you have to wait a wk to get ur results.
Just took the final and might still get an A. People are right that it is hard. I had to study all the time. but he was really good at explaining how things work. it just goes by really really fast! the notes are put online every week. i don't know what that other person is talking about.
Michelson gives you everything you need to do well in this course. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand and is always willing to clarify things if there are questions. He is an amazing teacher, you can't help but do well in his class.
Book is not necessary. Posts notes every Friday. All tests/quizzes are directly from notes. Tests are tough, your best bet is to record and listen to each lecture as much as possible. Extremely knowledgeable, great use of analogies, very helpful and has a good sense of humor. Passing his class means you have a solid grasp of the material.
His tests are so difficult even if you know the material understanding the way the test question is explained is just terrible . The wording on his test is horrific . I would advise not taking him
I had him for both biology 189 and 196 last year. He was really good. I'm at unlv now and I wish I still had him! I did think his tests were pretty hard, but I don't think I would think that now. He stays pretty organized, tells you what you need to know and posts lecture stuff on a website. You just have to spend the time to study a lot.
This is NOT a hard class, IF you study. Even if all you do is study his notes, you'll do fine. The tests aren't bad IF you study. He knows his stuff and will answer any questions you have. If you're not willing to study and ask questions on stuff you don't understand, DON'T take the class. I'd take any other class he taught if I needed it.
He is very clear on what he wants students to know and gives serious hints on what is going to be on tests. Not a hard class, just pay attention. Talks kind of fast at times, recording lecture recommended. Ask questions - if you don't he assumes everyone understood everything. His tests require understanding of the material, not just memorizing.
He's a good professor. He uses the book to make his in class lectures, but will only lecture on what he personally covers in class. Take a recorder and pay attention to his lectures. If you study what he gives you, you will do well.
I realize now what a great teacher he was. He was my first biology teacher and I haven't really had a better one since. He explains things in a logical way and uses examples. Its also not boring. But, if you're looking for an easy class this is NOT it. His tests require you to think, not just memorize.
I liked this class a lot! The only downside to his teaching is that he goes through the powerpoint slides very quickly, barely giving you enough time to write notes. So bring a recorder! The recorder saved me. But Rhett is a great guy I highly recommend him!
Just found out I got an A. Everyone says this class is difficult, but it wasn't that bad. I had to study a lot outside of class. but isn't that expected? Great teacher, great class.
I took this class for the spring semester and he is super helpful but his tests are not very fun. He words them kinda funny and often uses 1 good answer 1 best answer type of tests. Study his lecture notes, study your book, get all the help you can since his tests are very detailed, other than that he is awesome
He was super awsum:) he's a lil hard bt very friendly and extremely helpful!!!! I've taken him every chance I get!!!:) and I enjoy his lectures very much!!!:) he's kinda challenging as a professor bt he's really great!!! Defiantly a good pick:) n as a bonus he's cute!!!!:)
AWESOME!!! Very DOWN TO EARTH!!! This professor knows biology. Very helpful and never puts you down. He encourages you to proceed and not give up.. I am glad he was my lecture teacher. I regret not choosing him as my lab instructor.
He won't win any awards for easy tests, but if you go into it knowing it will be challenging he is a good choice. He will do his best to answer any question in class or afterward and he is always very nice about it. He definitely cares whether you learn or not!
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Michelson's class. His lectures are funny and relatable, he is always cracking jokes. Tests were fair and multiple choice. Definitely take this instructor-I wish I could take another Bio. class with him!
A very good Biology instructor. He explains concepts well and uses real life examples. I definitely recommend him. His test are by no means easy. But if you manage to pass his class in good standing (A) you know have a solid grasp on the material.
I think he is a wonderful teacher. He's very smart and he makes lecture engaging. I enjoy his lectures because he relates the material we're learning to stuff we do everyday and might not even realize the science behind it. Just study and you'll do fine on the exam don't just memorize his powerpoints but understand it. I loved him.
I got an A in this class. After getting a B on the first test I started recording the lecture and going through it a second time with his notes and it helped a lot. After that I got As. You don't want to miss class because he has clicker quizzes. Had this professor for lecture and lab, he was awesome. Really down to earth.
Dr. Michelson is an excellent professor who genuinely loves his subject. his lectures are lively and he is very enthusiastic. His class is not easy by any means and his tests are worded in a very difficult manner. I recieved a B in his class and I had to earn that. Make sure you read the book to get an A but you can get by with just lecture notes
Awesome professor...very chill. Makes class fun and will crack jokes from time to time....you can get by with just the powerpoints but the book will help. I got by with a B without using the book but 189 covered alot of the material in 196. His tests do give ppl problems so study hard for an A.
Professor Michelson is the absolute best. He is very clear and you do not have to use the book at all. He tells you everything that you need to know in order to pass the class. He is extremely helpful and nice. He is by far the best biology teacher.
His class is up beat, he encourages the use of recorders, quizes are takin with the iclicker almost every class, but even if you get the answer wrong you get credit for being there, im in his class noe, he will go over any questins you have! All in all he keeps it interesting! Material is hard in nature, I got a B on the first exam and D on the 2nd
Honestly one of the best biology teachers ever. His class isn't really hard if you study, the test might be something to watch out for. He's really helpful, and funny. I recommend him as a lab instructor as well.
I would agree with most comments here. He is excellent, but not near as hard as some people say. It just isnt the kind of class you can ignore. He makes you think and you have to be able to really think about the stuff to do well on the tests. I loved the class and would recommend.
Great teacher. Bring a recorder like your smartphone. Sit in the front, take notes. You dont need the book but it helps. Not an easy A but very doable. His tests dont have ridiculous questions, they are very palatable. Put the time and effort in the class and youll be fine. No one got anywhere sitting on their but, except Honey Boo Boo.
Very enthusiastic and excited about what he teaches, but he expects you to be the same way and also to work hard outside of class. Exams are not simple. Organized, uses some white board projector. Notes download off of a website. Also uses iClickers for quizzes. Would also highly recommend for lab.
Very helpful professor. Not bad on the eyes either. Extremely genuine.
It took me a while to really start doing well in this class. He really does expect a lot from you in studying, but he's a great teacher. You must come to class, but also a lot of outside studying to do well on the exams. Very easy to talk to, and pretty funny at times. Good for lab too.
Umm...no. Sure he's a genuine guy, but that's not going to give you a good grade. He admitted he doesn't teach BIO 101 which is why the class is hard. He goes WAAAY too fast in notes. He doesn't even let you finish or think. And he doesn't post notes until Fri. His notes are all over the place. iClickers help/ruin ur grade. Better attend!
This is the only science class i've ever had and it was definitely HARD. But, I think he did a good job making it interesting and explaining things. He's also kinda funny which helps. I just wish he had extra credit and more reviews!
Rhett has passion for what he teaches, but students beware. Attendance is a must to pass this class. His exams are extremely difficult and do not follow his power points. I suggest reading the book and utilizing the practice tests.
I just found out I got an A in this class. If I can I'm sure anyone can. I don't know why people would think he's hard. He gives you everything you need to do well, but if you don't want to actually figure things out for yourself then you should take someone else. Great professor, great class.
Great Profeasor, challenging class but i got an A. Upside he really wants u to succeed and is there if u need him. if u put in the time u'll do fine. Tests are insane, u have to understand the material not just memorize. Drops ur lowest test grade. Works off PowerPoint, iclickers, book not mandatory but helps. Gladly take him again!
Hands down best professor ever, the guy is funny, and very clear, he is very helpful, and his exams are not that difficult.
Great professor! He enjoys teaching, very willing to help, and answer any questions you might have. Go to class, take good notes, and review his power points (which he uploads). You can also record his lectures if that helps you. You don't need the book, but can use it as supplement. He's very funny too and not too bad to look at either.
Great Professor!! Young, hip, and hilarious. He made lectures fun and interesting. I'm honestly sad it's over. Need to go to every class and you need to do the work. This class is not easy but he made it fun.
Mixed review,he is super cool. Makes lectures enjoyable, funny yet relatively confusing too. Moves quickly before the class has a clear grasp on topic. MC tests 60 ques. worded in a confusing-misleading manner. Best advice-record lectures, replay back often, memorization will not help-must understand processes. Take chem n bio189 prior as help. Study!
Fantastic! He doesn't teach this class usually, and was so lucky to get him. He's really nice, and he made the class very interesting. It does go by fast, and you still have to work very hard. But, I have had other professors at CSN for A&P and he was my favorite. Definitely take if you can.
4 mc tests (1 dropped) & final. Lecture is fun but moves fast so always record. PP for notes & iclicker. Tests are tough but not impossible as long as you put in the time to study the material, which is a lot. But he's the best at simplifying concepts! I took him for 101 & 196. If you can take him for lab also, makes things easier. No complaints!
Rhett makes lectures entertaining and fun, constantly making the class laugh. He is a genuine guy you can tell wants you to succeed. However, his tests are extremely difficult and are worded in a confusing manner. Only way to do good is if you study what you learn after every class. GREAT PROFESSOR, BUT VERY DIFFICULT.
Great guy that was funny and easy to listen to. Made me like biology. Not sure if he was tough or just the class itself but I had to work quite hard to get a C. Would definitely still recommend though.
So far he has been one of the most inspirational and helpful professor I have ever had, he truly care for his students and if you come to classes and study his power points, you will have an easyA, his exams are smart and funny just like him
At the beginning of the semester I would never have thought I could get a B. His tests really require a more understanding than just sitting in the class. You have to study outside of class too. Very nice, easy going professor. Good for lab too.
He is without a doubt a great teacher. His lectures are super fun. But the way he grades the class, makes it difficult. Tests are super tough, He will basically tell you to study 3 or 4 chapters for an exam. No study guides, no guidelines of what the exam will actually cover. I wouldn't take another class with him, and i got a B+ as a grade.
Easy going teacher. The lectures are long and he goes over the information pretty quickly. To get a better understanding of the information you should read the textbook and look over the notes before the test. The only thing I didn't like was the daily iClickers so attendance is mandatory if you want to get the points
I loved this class, found myself including a lot of the things I had learned in my daily conversations. Its hard because Biology is hard; however Professor Michelson made it easy for us to understand with lots of good analogies and some occasional comedy. Hes super helpful, and always kept us engaged. I'm sad he doesn't teach other BIOL classes.
Very awesome teacher you can't find a better Bio196 teacher he cares about his students, and he teaches in a way where retaining information is easy. He has a sense of humor. He is very professional to his students. He is great for lab too. Ask questions he likes talking to students. Study hard and take him. Cons exam answer choices are perplexing.
This class is really hard, so no matter who you take you will work your butt off for a good grade. This was my second time taking it, and he was really good. I still couldn't get an A, but thats just cause I didnt have enough time to study. It takes a lot!
I LOVE RHETT! Take him! He is an awesome lab teacher--super chill and straightforward about his grading criteria for the Biology 196 Lab paper. I have heard that his lecture is very hard so beware of that but he is very knowledgeable and into detail about biology. He cares about his students and is also realistic about medical school advice.
Take Rhett, he is an amazing professor ! I would also advice you not to buy the book because I did not use it at all.
Rhett is a great teacher and scientist--he's funny, easy to ask for help, and cares about his students' success. The lecture does move VERY quickly at times, be forewarned! This course requires a lot of your time regardless of who the teacher is, but if you make the effort to study the concepts you will do well. Highly recommend this professor!
Really interesting class! His lectures were clear and thorough. He dropped the lowest exam and quiz, so he gave you some leeway. DONT SKIP CLASS! There is quiz questions every day and you can't make it up. As long as you study and pay attention, you should be fine. Was really good on answering questions. There's a code you need for the online hw.
He doesn't teach 224 often, but when he does, take him! His powerpoints and lectures are some of the best I've had and he focuses on important stuff, and doesn't make you study every little detail. His exams are very straight forward no trick questions. Just a great person overall, he's really nice and approachable, a very funny guy! Great class.
Some of the material is difficult to understand reading the textbook, but this professor is very helpful in grasping the important topics and ideas in each chapter. He definitely helps in understanding the material, and helps keep you focused and refreshed using humor throughout the lecture.
Attendance is required to get iClicker scores. Book isn't needed, but you do need the Mastering for HW assignments. Beware, he doesn't always use the same verbiage in his exams as he does in his lectures. Rec taking Bio095 beforehand, he does move fast. Does not hand back exams for feedback, only for review during office hours. No reviews b4 exam.
His style of teaching is the best I've ever encountered. Drops lowest exam/quiz. Show up to every class and do iclickers for easy points that counts towards all your quizzes. Record each lecture and use it to study for exams. I didn't really use the textbook, its good to have tho. Best professor. Hope to take 224 with him in the future. Lets hope.
Rhett is an amazing professor, a bit intimidating at first but very quickly turns into a "dad" figure with all the dad jokes and stories he tells. Attendance is kinda necessary to get iClicker points, which count as quizzes. He drops the lowest test score as well. Overall an excellent proff with very good lecturing skills makes tests hard tho.
I passed BIO 224 with Dr. Rhett. He makes all the things we have to learn easier to understand, but do not think you don't have to work for it! His tests were straightforward, which was much appreciated. Come with your iClicker and recorder! He gives extra points every class and it helped me learn and boosted my grades a *tiny* bit!
Michelson is a great and funny professor. He drops the lowest test and quiz grade you receive in labs and lecture. Make sure when you study, to go in dept and understand the material and not just surface. He phrases his questions on tests a little weird to throw you off but just read through it. Make sure to ask questions and attend class!
Professor Rhett is the best professor that I've had for 224. His lectures are fun and it is mandatory to show up to every class and not be late because you do have to use iclickers for quiz questions. Some of the quiz questions are easy, but you are able to use your notes or your neighbor. Study every day and listen to lectures multiple times!
This is not an easy class. The material itself is complicated. Record his lectures, then write down every single thing he says on the slide print outs at the end of the week. Then re-read the lecture notes until it makes sense. It is very time consuming to do this, but well worth it as my grade reflected the time spent learning the material.
Professor Rhett is the first professor I have had that has taken the time to connect with students. His class has been the hardest class I have taken to date but it only taught me how to be a better student. If you put the effort, this class is beyond worth it. (he uses an clicker for quiz pts & the tests are lecture based) Totally recommend him!
This class is graded by few things. There are only about 4 homework grades and the rest is tests. That's it. This class will definitely make you work for your grade, and you have to study a lot. Don't just memorize answers. Make sure you actually understand the concepts in depth. Other than that, he seems to care for his students and responds fast.
What can I say, amazing instructor. I was lucky to take Rhett for the second time after BIO189. Class is based on HW, 4 exams, and a final. He provided prerecorded lectures which were great imo. Go over the lectures and just note everythying he goes over will be on the exam. No need to study all the small details. Thank you Rhett, next stop nursing
I took his class pre covid but he was honestly a great professor. His class was the first one I struggled with but his lectures were honestly great. He is very open if help is needed.
Hes makes class fun and not boring because he has a good sense of humor! He makes biology easy because he makes it understandable obviously studying helps!
Dr. Rhett was a real interactive professor. He made the class period fly-by every time. He doesn't allow people to use the bathroom during lectures. There are iClickers in almost every class and those are worth more than the homework.
The content is hard but that's not Michelson's fault. He explained the most complicated stuff so well. Your grade for the class is basically 4 tests and a final and iClicker points which are like a free grade boost. Michelson is a brilliant teacher, explains stuff so well, and so worth taking. Highly, highly recommend. Textbook not necessary tbh.
Prof Michelson was my first in-person lecture instructor at csn & honestly I am so glad! He is so funny lmao which makes every lecture enjoyable. He comes up with these insanely good analogies that can help you understand the content better. Exams are hard tbh, but that's not his fault that is just how 224 is in general. But I would take him again!
I had him for BIO190 Lab and he was a great lab instructor. He explained the lab beforehand and even gave us some background information just in case we didn't know why we were doing the experiments. Definitely recommend this professor! He got to know all of our names as well and it really showed his character. Very funny too.
He's funny and made our super late lab (we get out at 10:30) fun and tolerable. I do not think I could have handled it if I did not have him as an intructor.
Prof. Michelson is very passionate about the subject he teaches and it's very clear in his lectures. He really wants his students to succeed and to be prepared for what's to come in 223, 224, etc. He's very understanding and doesn't over-complicate anything. If you want to get a good grade in this class I HIGHLY suggest recording his lectures!!
The most entertaining professor I've ever had. I actually looked forward to lecture the way I would look forward to watching a good movie. He gives great analogies to help us understand complicated concepts in bio. I wish I took him for lab, too. Having lab till 10pm is worth it now that I've experienced him for lecture. Highly recommend!
I would take him for all my biology classes. He explains subject very well, very passionate about it. Get ready to record his lectures and listen his voice over and over again. Listen to lectures( 2-3 times), go to SI and if you don't understand something ask him questions.
I enjoyed my time in his class. It was fairly lecture heavy but, he only went over the big key details. You can make up a lot of points doing the iClickers and homework that a lot of other lecture teachers don't do. Overall I would highly recommend you take him and make sure to attend classes, you can very easily fall behind as the class is fast.
Dr. Michelson is a great teacher. I will say, he doesn't allow you to use the bathroom during his lectures b/c it is "distracting" even though we've all been used to ppl standing up + leaving classrooms since grade school. He then causes such a scene when someone actually does need to go that it becomes much more distracting than it was initially.
As everyone else has said, record his lectures because it's pretty fast-paced. 4 exams and 1 cumulative final. Does Iclickers & have homework due every Sunday online. He teaches in a way an average person can understand. He's a great professor & would definitely take him again. Don't get up in class, it's his pet peeve (personal experience).
Dr. Michelson knows what he is doing. He explains things in a way you can understand. He is selective with what he teaches but that is because he knows this is for Health Science majors and wants you to succeed. His tests are based solely on his lectures, so record them! Then listen to them again, especially before an Exam. Take Dr. Michelson!
Dr. M knows his stuff and u can tell.. he only goes over important topics and makes it somewhat easy to understand. Tells funny stories along the way. Exams are definitely on the more challenging side- lotssss of critical thinking. Expensive textbook, assigns homework + iclickers. Record his lectures, handwrite ur notes and go to SI!
Loved his class. Yes, he requires Pearson+ but hw and exams aligned very well so u know exactly what to study to ace the class. Lowest exam grade is dropped. His lectures were engaging and clarified info in the textbook. I made friends with my classmates bc we helped each other with iClicker questions. Fun and cool prof. TAKE HIM!!!
He actually cares enough to get to know everyone in lab by name, our career goals, etc. TAKE HIS LAB!!! He was the best bio lab instructor I've had since.
Dr. Michelson is a nice and funny professor! You can tell he's passionate about teaching. I personally found the class very hard. I would suggest recording all of the lectures! Dr. Michelson went fast in class, because there's a lot of material to cover. He was almost always available to help during office hours. There were five exams and one final
The Professor made every lecture very interesting and he is very knowledgeable. This is the toughest class I have taken to date. Be ready to spend a lot of time studying if you have not taken any bio classes previously. Overall a great teacher just a tough subject.
Reviews were accurate for me. He's pretty low key and very easy to talk to. He tries his best to keep things interesting and explains things quite well. Throws jokes and stories in occasionally. The tests are very hard though, and you have to do a lot of studying outside of class. That is probably true for all the teachers of this course.
Rhett was amazing for 189!! I am so excited to take him again for 224. He talks to the class in a way that flows so well, and everything makes sense. He is also willing to go the extra mile to provide examples so things make more sense. He does require you to have an iclicker so be aware!
Awesome dude. I took him for in Fall 2022 and what I retained from his class helped me excel in BIOL223, 224 and 251. He was great at making complex concepts in bio easier to understand, which is rare at CSN. This was my 1st bio class in college and I'm glad I took him. Didn't have him for lab, but my peers who had him for lab were really happy!
I was at a disadvantage, I haven't taken bio since my freshman year of high school, so this was a very hard class for me. If you have taken bio more recently, this class would probably be a lot easier. This was the hardest class I've taken so far. I had to study for several hours a day to do well. He grades very slow, but he's funny and super nice.
Professor Michelson is a great teacher! Makes bio super easy to digest especially if youre a bio major. Highly recommend! Take him for lab if you can!
Dr. Michelson was a really funny, chill professor. His lectures felt super long but he tries to help you understand what he's talking about. He kind of goes fast with his lectures but uploads them afterward. Overall, a really good professor!
This is an amazing professor made me actually love biology and looked forward to his lectures! Lectures can feel pretty long but everything is very important and will show up on exams so if you pay good attention and take decent notes you should be fine! He is very entertaining and understanding and gives great examples!
This professor's class is fun if you already know most of the stuff,he goes all over, one week we would go over chapter 2 and the next day we would go over chap 16 which can get tough if your not a fast learner like myself. Anyways, grades depend on the exams, which are pretty tough and confusing. iclickers are also hard and homework doesn't help.
Professor Michelson makes bio engaging and accessible, even for non-majors. His lectures are fast-paced, so recording them is a must. Unstuck ai and the provided textbook are great study companions to ace this class.
I would say the reviews are accurate (good or not). I thought he was excellent. Really nice guy with enthusiasm and kept me awake during class. But, if you are looking for easy then maybe keep shopping.
Great professor, but very hard content if your prior experience to biology is still relatively fresh. I think he is a great professor and qualifies for teaching for such a rigorous critical-thinking test-heavy course. He gives good tips and thinking analogies to help you understand the content, you just have to pay attention and take notes.
He was really nice and caring. His tests were difficult but he didn't put anything we didn't go over. He tried to help and give examples so we understood everything he taught. Overall, he was a really good professor
Good lectures, you need to attend to take daily quizzes for points. LOTS of homework. The lectures are pretty easy to understand, BUT when you take the exam you need advanced critical thinking skills. Most kids who take his class are straight out of highschool. ALSO will not let you review the exam afterwards unless you go to his office hours.
I loved this Prof. He really cares about you and is willing to help whenever you need. he is very funny and makes his tests fun with funny answer options. His lectures are memorable and funny. Def take him.
This professor is excellent at giving lectures, he explains something that difficult to understand in a way that is easily understood by making it fun. He always has jokes and trys to relate the information to his own life experiences. This is a hard class and you will have to put in a lot of effort to get the grade you want.
Amazing. I was nervous considering I hadn't taken a proper science class in well over 5 years, but Professor Michelson not only made the material incredibly understandable, but also miraculously garnered a newfound appreciation and maybe even interest in Biology for me. Very happy with my choice, would take him for all science classes if I could.
SO MUCH HW! lectures are funny! but his lectures tend to be surface level? If you like to take notes later, his power slides are okay. I felt like his exams required advanced critical thinking. Use chat GPT research deeper into the lecture slides. Don't bother with the book, or pearson practice quiz, it wont help you on exams. focus on slides.
Excellent professor but NOT easy A! That said, if you are truly interested in understanding the material at a higher level, he is extremely knowledgeable and his lectures are great (record if you can and listen on repeat!). Uses iclicker, so you'll want to attend. Exams are hard, you'll need to actively study not just read slides. Would take again!
I had to retake this class, and I would say this professor was a good improvement. The tests were still very hard, but he explained things much better for me. There are five tests, iClicker quizzes and homework, but the homework is completely optional. I thought he was very relatable.
Very knowledgeable and explains concepts well. He skips unnecessary filler and focuses on key points. If it is not on his slides, it will not be on the exam. His exams are reasonable and lighter than expected. If students thought the exams were hard, they probably do not realize they had it fairly easy. Read the book. Take notes. Ask questions.
Dr. Michelson is really funny and interesting. His lectures are condensed with tons of info. Even coming from someone who has a biology background, I found this class to be quite difficult. His exams were hard, so be sure to study and take advantage of all your resources. Attendance is required to earn quiz points. The lowest exam is dropped.
