Good teacher, you can really learn a lot if you pay attention in class and do the assignments. She teaches until you can really understand

I couldn't ask for a better Chemistry class. It wasn't easy, but then again I never took Chemistry in high school! She is extremely helpful and really wants you to understand what you're learning! I would HIGHLY recommend taking it with Mrs. Porter. I really don't think you could come by a better Chemistry teacher!

I took her chem 305 class at FLC. All i can say is that she is AMAZING and she will help you with any questions that you have about chemistry!! I would recommend her to anyone who has never taken a chemistry class before, becasue she explains it very throughly.You also have notes and worksheets that you can print online.Full of knowledge!!

Great prof. I highly recommend her. Took her summer Chem 2A class. While her tests are challenging, she prepares you with great knowledge for future chem classes.

Hands down best chem teacher I have ever had (and I have had quite a few!). She is very helpful and extremely patient. Will help you in any way she can. She really sticks to her time limits for exams so make sure you know your info well! If chem is something that doesn't come easy to you then take Dr. Porter! She is the BEST.

I was shocked when I read the previous comments. This teacher is AMAZING. I took chem A in the summer so I was already really familiar with the material, but if I hadn't she would have made learning it soooo much easier than from the teacher I took. She is SO helpful and SO nice. Always finding ways for people to understand. TAKE HER!!!

I'm shocked by the comments that Dr. Porter was not helpful and rude. I took this class during the summer and was amazed at how easy it is to learn when you have a helpful teacher! I did work hard for the B that I recieved but by far she is one of the BEST professors I have ever taken! Hands down! Take her if you truly want to learn! Amazing!

I don't know how anyone could have a bad critique of this teacher. The only person that could be blamed for the absence of learning would be the student. Ms. Porter's Lectures were very easy to follow. Labs wer fun and clear! She was very helpful. I got an A and hadn't had a math class in 15 years. If you put in the work, you'll get an A.

REALLY helpful and gracious. Even met us off campus to help us study for a test following a holiday ON HER DAY OFF! Super teacher, super lady. tests from notes, book for clarification and study help. LOVED HER!

While this class is still difficult and I have to spend a lot of time studying, if it were not for her great instruction and willingness to constantly help I would be very lost. I strongly reccomend her!

Excellent teacher. I haven't taken a science class for a LONG time so I was skeptical at first. She broke it down to make chemistry understandable. I didn't buy the book and managed to get an A. Just study powerpoint handouts and worksheets. She was available after class hours if you needed help. Very nice lady and loved her summer class.

Had Rhiannon for 2x and wish I had been able to get into her 2a class! Even though I wasn't in her class she went out of her way to help me with my 2a homework. I think she teaches at Folsom full time. If she taught 2b I would commute to Folsom just to have her as a teacher. Extremely helpful to her own students too and great at explaining!

Great teacher! Assumes everybody in class knows nothing about chem (which was great for me), is very clear in explaining, and doesn't mind at all if the same question gets asked over and over. She really wants you to understand. Took Sue Kurnett first(and dropped) and absolutely couldn't stand her. Porter is amazing.

First chem class I've taken with a teacher that went out of the way to help her students understand! She really does care about her students and is very helpful when asking for clarification on a topic. Tests are fairly easy as well and she's Very understanding. Required paper/ poster presentation at the end of semester.

Out of all my science classes for nursing this has been my favorite so far and I hated honors chemistry in hs because of my teacher. I thought Dr. Porter was extremely helpful and down-to-Earth, plus she still has a passion for her subject. You have to work hard and study like crazy to get an A, but it is doable. I am so glad I had chem. with her.

super hard but she is the best teacher in the world. she gave individual tutoring when students asked her questions after class. but 5 exams, 8~10 quizzes and 1 power point project.

I really enjoyed Porter's class, I didn't do very well on 2 tests and still managed to come out of the class with a B. The test are long, & there wasnt enough time to go back & check my answers, though I think she is better than other teachers bc during tutoring sessions with kids from other classes, Porter always had shorter steps. TAKE HER!

If you need Chem2A you always hear to take Clemens but Porter is AMAZING! She teaches things in a way that are easy to understand, takes big concepts one step at a time and is always willing to help you! She's my fav. teacher! I highly recommend taking her, even if chem isn't your best subject. She makes it fun and easy as long as you do your work.

Best teacher I've had in a long time! Her Chem 2A is a breeze if you have basic knowledge on the subject and passed basic algebra. I hear many others have issues but she's more than willing to help and explain in several different ways until you get it. Take Chem 2x with her as well! Haven't studied for a test yet and my grade is still above 90%.

Professor Porter is a great teacher. I bombed the first test due to not fully knowing how to study for a chem test. She encouraged me a lot and I was able to get an A on another test. Chemistry is hard, but her teaching method is excellent. She breaks things down a lot and then builds on top of it. Do not miss class and go to the tutoring.

Porter is the most amazing professor I have ever had at Sierra. Her lectures are crystal-clear, she manages to explain complex content into simple concepts, and will take all the time in the world to answer your questions. There are 4 tests,a cumulative final, and a project that includes a 2 page essay, poster, and powerpoint. Highly recommend her!

I was pretty intimidated walking into my first day of chemistry. But not only did Dr. Porter teach in a way that allowed me to succeed, but she also kept the subject matter interesting. I walked out of my final confident and happy to have taken her class. However, keep in mind that chemistry is difficult and this is by no means an easy class.

Porter is literally the best teacher I have ever had at Sierra! She is very clear about what she wants and gives you many chances to help your grade. I have never taken a chem class in my life (not even in high school) and I passed with an A. You still have to work hard, but if you want a good grade she will help get you there!!!

Awesome Prof! She explains very well but you have to do your part to understand. If you just do the work and study the you'll do just fine. Do not procrastinate on the hw as its easy but a lot. quiz every week but you can have a note sheet, so take advantage of that! Labs aren't difficult and are fun. Quick tip, make friends & study buddies! A, B!

Amazing! Her lectures make perfect sense. She explains everything in lab really well too. She is always happy to help. She makes chemistry fun. So sweet and caring. There is a lot of homework but they apply to the exams. So it's a very good study tool. She did do study guides when I took her, not sure if that's still the case.

She's super approachable. Will explain thing in depth, If you need help just ask her. She always brings snacks to lecture :) Done get lazy with your work and you will be good :)

Porter is an amazing teacher. She assigns homework from the books and has clear instructions how she wants you to do your assignments. She'll answer and explain any of your questions without making you feel lesser. lectures are nice and easy to understand, also she provides extra material on canvas if you need extra explanations.

This is my very first evaluation of any professor ever - I felt the need to write one for Professor Porter. She is an excellent professor, she will take the time out of her day to explain anything at any time. Like any other class, you read the book, come to lecture and do the homework. Simple. Don't think your a smartass and don't need to study.

I have taken her for both 3A and 3B and she is amazing! She always is there for students whenever anyone has a question. As long as you keep up on your homework the quizzes and exams aren't so bad. Honestly the nicest teacher I have ever had, would recommend you take her. Also, she always brings bananas for lecture snacks.

Rhiannon took over teaching my class after my other preofessor Pam, was put on administrative leave. Rhiannon was awesome! Her and Sue taught us almost an entire semester of chemistry in about 5 weeks and the class felt like we had finally actually learned something about Chemistry. She is awesome! 100% recommend!

Im so glad I got to take her for 3A/3B, I only wish she also taught 1B too! Chem is hard work, but she helps make it better! She offers extra credit too!

Doctor Porter is one of the most intelligent and caring professors at Sierra. Her classes are indeed lecture heavy, and while Chem 3A is straightforward, Chem 3B is a bit more convoluted. Porter is a brilliant instructor, but do not take this for granted. The class gets harder as the semester and second half of the classes come along.

Chem is hard for me but she explains everything really well and will answer any questions. I recommend this class for anyone who is not good at math/science but still needs the credit. It can be rough at times but use the resources she offers and you will be fine. Very kind and approachable, she definitely cares about her students

General Chemistry 1 is a difficult course by nature, but Porter was absolutely amazing. She is always available outside of class, responds to emails quickly, and encourages you to ask questions even if she has already explained the question 10 times. Keep on top of homework and study weekly, not just the week before the test because they are hard.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING professor. She's the reason I'm a chem major now! She teaches so well and genuinely cares about her students. Definitely the most fair professor I've ever had.

The class size was way too big and it's hard to ever ask questions because everyone after class would bombard her with questions. I took this class in Fall 2017 and I absolutely felt on my own. I only passed because of chemistry tutors and teaching myself. Chemistry Lab partners are important! So pick a good one or ditch a bad one

Chem was tough... but Porter definitely made it better. She really wanted her students to succeed in the class, and provided snacks since chem lecture + lab would take up most of your day. She is approachable and very helpful -- take her!

I can't say enough nice things about Prof. Porter. She is one of the most caring teachers I've come across and very accessible (offered to meet w me at 9 pm one night to review something I was confused about). Although the class is a bit more challenging than 3A, if you put in the work, ask questions, and study she will make help you to no end.

Absolutely the kindest teacher I have ever had in my life! Responds to emails 24/7, is ALWAYS willing to meet up, allows students to voice their opinions, zooms are not mandatory, zooms are recorded, lectures are really easy to follow but there's a lot of them. Many practice worksheets that are not graded, homework is on an online program! AMAZING!

She cares about her students and wants you to be successful. Some extra credit opportunities were offered , practice worksheets were available, and her lectures were helpful. We had about 9 quizzes. She's the type of professor that is very approachable and willing to help! If you put in effort you should be able to get an A.

She is very nice and cares a lot, but some questions on quizzes and exams are tricky. Make sure you do the homework and understand it, every single question, sometimes some questions might seem insignificant but they are very important. Overall, I enjoyed her class, but would be more careful. Ask questions!

Best teacher I have ever had!! She is so helpful and will zoom with you at 9pm if you need help with anything! She cares about her students! She is very good at giving partial credit as long as you show your work and show that you tried to solve the problem. She gives extra credit too! I was never afraid of asking questions with her which is rare!!

Chemistry is a tough class regardless, but prof porter makes it an enjoyable experience. She is super easy to reach out to and goes out of her way to help students if they are struggling. The tests can be tough to make sure you study and complete the homework, as well as review her lecture slides and problems in the course pack.

Professor Porter is so sweet and her lectures reflect how much she loves chem. The class is not work heavy, there's only 1 homework assignment a week along with 1 lab. The homework questions are perfect test prep and help you get the concepts down. She was very helpful in answering my questions & brought snacks into class everyday so we were fed!!

Prof. Porter is so amazing she won the teacher of the year award. If you miss class or need clarification, she has videos posted online. The only slight negative is her tests are somewhat hard but I think that's just chemistry. She also gives lots of extra credit opportunities. One of, if not the best teacher I've ever had.

I had Prof. Porter for 3A and 3B and she was my favorite professor ever. She makes chemistry easy to understand and less intimidating. She is always accessible to meet on zoom if you need help before the homework is due. She is so educated and cares about you as a person too. TAKE HER!!!!

She is really really so great. She goes out of her to make the class fun. She also takes the time to helps whenever it is needed. Even on Sunday night right before stuff is due she is on her computer answer emails about whatever is needed.

She grades fairly and provides various opportunities for extra credit, demonstrating her desire to see her students succeed. She is an excellent educator and scientist.

Prior to this class, I've had zero exposure to Chemistry, and now I'm a chemistry tutor at Sierra. Dr. Porter, is extremely inspiring, kind, and wants the best for everyone. Truthfully, the Pearson homework can get tedious, but other than that this class, and Dr. Porter, has truly fueled my passion for science and love for learning.

I loved her as person but as a professor I wouldn't take her class again. She focuses on facts and details, but never touched on any practice problems to memorize concepts. You'll be expected do those problems outside of class. She does give partial credit and extra credit so you can hopefully pass. Take advantage of the Pearson. Labs not hard.

Rhiannon is a great professor. I took both her 3A and 3B classes. This class will be a struggle if you don't put any effort into it. If you practice problems repeatedly, you will have no problem getting a good grade! I strongly suggest utilizing the Pearson homework. It's a pain, but it helps you understand the topics.

Overall great professor, except the lab equations are not thoroughly taught. My only advice is write down every bit of the labs you can because the lab exams are impossible. You will have to back figure lab results so be detailed in copying and giving examples of the labs.
