very dedicated professor; she actually makes stats interesting!
nice lady, tries to make class interesting
Unbelievable! Also, looks like the woman from the big comfy couch!
A+ Started slowly @ start with the easy stuff but rushes thru hard stuff later
i never thought stats could be entertaining
Super nice! Great Prof! She really cares
not helpful at all, seems funny in class but in her office she's not so nice
She actually made me want to come to class!
good teacher, but too slow on the easy stuff.. too fast when it's hard
Rhonda is the greatest professor at McGill. Her homemade cookies rock!
i thought i hated stats, and all math... until i took this class
She has got a hilarious sense of humour+really cares, really wants you to learn
amazing!!!
She is a great teacher, she makes stats seem so easy.
Professor Amsel is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She is so nice, her exams are fair, she's very helpful, and she makes Statistics bearable.
shes such a sweetie in class but in her office is another story shes not as nice there
THE NICEST TEACHER. seriously, she really cares about students and sees them as real people. She's super helpful and sweet if you're having problems and she really tries to make stats as best as possible with explanations, jokes, occasional candy/food,etc.
ok warning dont go see her in her office she will give you some major killer looks
Great teacher! If you have to take PSYC 305, make sure you take it with her. She does everything she can to make the class interesting and make sure the students understand.
Amsel is one of the few teachers who loves her students MORE than her paycheck. She genuinely cares, teaches well and is extremely humorous. Bubbly and full of life, she is the perfect teacher. Go to class and do all the work she prescribes!
She is a real ****!

You'll love her or hate her. enthusiastic in class.. has serious mood swings though. I hate stats though.. so i thought that it was pretty tough. not my type of thing however, i can recognize a good teacher when i see one. she's good
She's way better in 204, but still the best thing McGill has to offer. Doesn't give enough types of examples in class and expects you to do much harder stuff in assignments. Pay attention and you'll do fine!!!
really personable- she really cares- got a crisis? go to her, talk, she'll help you. Advice: if you fall behind, you'll get run over. if you don't go to the lectures you may as well drop out of the class. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS--TAs are lacking.
She's awesome! There are very few teachers at McGill who WANT their students to do well. Amsel is the exception. She will do everything in her power to have everyone do well and she does it with patience, understanding and brownies! Take the course!
amazing teacher, but sometimes expects too much of her students, but still makes mcgill more bearable
I love Rhonda. I wouldn't have made it through stats without her. The course pac is great. She really cares.
Rhonda is a GREAT teacher!Of all the stats teachers in the department, she's probably the only one who's gonna really care about your success and teach you something!
She's got an awesome reputation, but I must say, I was a little disappointed with her. Sure, she's an easy marker, but she's kind of mean. She talks to the class like we're a bunch of kindergarden kids, and by the end of the semester, that get's old.
Very funny and trys to get the class involved. If she likes you, life's easy, so don't get on her bad side! And she really wants everyone to pass, plus she makes it so easy too!!
Get on her good side, otherwise this class is hell.
Good teacher, explains well but doesn't give enough examples and examples given are way easier than assignments or exams. Easy marker and can resubmit work. Mood swings but nice and entertaining.
She's really a great teacher, she cares about her students success and is very dedicated to you doing well. Definitly take her class, she makes it real easy to get a good mark!!!
Meh. Kind of funny sometimes, mean othertimes... If you go to her office, it's scary as hell. Her exams were a lot harder than her examples, but then again she's pretty generous if she likes you. So again, she can be summed up with: "Meh."
One of the best teachers you'll ever find. She made the material interesting and understandable
mmmm, her final exams are hard and she can be scary sometimes.
She does a great job explaining things in class, the course pack is fantastic, and the material itself is very straight-forward. She makes the class interesting and is often quite funny. She is very approachable and is just a GREAT prof!
Best prof Ive ever had... the class could have been terribly hard if she wasnt so amazing. She goes out of her way to help and makes sure you really do understand... there are always lines outside her office hours but she does help everyone.
Can be very helpful, makes a huge effort to reach out to those who don't get it. Very funny, wicked sense of humour. But moody too, and you never know if you'll catch her on an off day when you need help.
Single greatest female prof ever. I hate statistics with a passion and Rhonda managed to make me enjoy her class. She is a ray of sunshine. WE LOVE U RHONDA!!!
I was dreading taking statistics (I went on to law school because I wanted nothing to do with numbers), but Prof. Amsel actually made it more than tolerable. I would choose her for psych stats every time!
Probably the best prof at McGill. SO helpful, lets you re hand in assignments, super clear, always willing to help and have lunch with her students. Made a horrible class totally great.
wants to be helpful, but exams are a ****. so is she, in person, on occasion. class was made excruciating more by the people in it than by her ...
meh.. alright
She is awesome!! She is THE prof to take if you are afraid of math... believe me she will make it SO much more bearable!!
material was somewhat hard at times. easy assignments & u can resubmit!! midterm was a dread...final was a breeze. nice prof...although she has her days...
she is amazing, her sense of humour makes you look forward to sats and she is very willing to help...
The material is not so bad. The teacher is pretty good as well however I did not see why people go gaga over her. She is willing to help, however, she's very moody.
Horribly boring course, but Amsel's great. Watch out near the end of the term though, the material gets harder quick.
Very clear prof, helpful and funny. The material is easy, the exams have some challenging questions where you really need to understand the material and not just regurgitate the exercises from the book. The class was OK.
shes really nice and she makes the class as interesting and entertaining as humanly possible.she is fair and is willing to help her students as much as possilbe. I definately recommend her for this class.
makes the class interesting and is very helpful. she gets rather stressed though and can be a little moody at times.
Exams became brutal (as compared to 2 years ago) and she's very mean, though still helpful. Rumors has it she went nuts. what's the probability of that? Do your ANOVAs and find out! Too many theoretical questions, some of which were too detailed for a math class. It's boring too! Take it with Ho Ho
Best math teacher, period.
Simply the greatest professor at McGill. Truely cares about her students and shows an interest in them both inside and outside of the classroom.
Such dull material but Amsel was okay although her voice would grate my nerves after 1 1/2 hrs. Says she doesn't care if ppl talk through class (which was really annoying & distracting)& then would get moody when she didn't get undivided attention. Would have been better if it wasnt in Stewart 1/4
She's not great, but she's ok. She gets moody and it's somtimes scary to go to her office. But I guess she's quite ok since she lets you resubmit all the HW and she replaces your midterm grade with fianl if you do better on the final.
take the course with Moon-Ho. His exams are easier than high school math. He gives you exact same questions from the class ex, just with different numbers. As long as you don't intend to screw yourself, you will get an A. R. Amsel isn't bad but moon-ho's class is easier than so called the "A courses"
shes really funny and sarcastic, the first 13 weeks the course is easy, then the last 2 weeks she teaches new stuff that can kill u but if u go to conferences during that time u should be fine
Not as approachable as advertised.Do not bother her outside of office hours (I hear).A bit disorganized, especially at the end with the term project, and 4-question final is not pretty.Says probability part of class not too important, but beware, there will be a question on final devoted entirely to probability. If you're not good at math, work hard!

funny and stuff. but tough as hell
For 204, Amsel is the best prof out there so far. Avoid Ostry or others in the summer. Don't get the textbook, just get the coursepack which is basically the same thing that she uses in the lectures..so you don't need to go to the classes if you can deal with it on your own. Free HW marks for just doing them. Midterm is tough tough. Final-Fair.
Amazing!
Stats sucks, no matter how you cut it. From what I've heard, she's the best of the profs who teach it, so definitely opt for this one. She's very kind and wants her students to do well. You're allowed to resubmit all your homework! Take advantage of this, because the midterm is pretty horrible.
unclear, mean, not helpful
I got fooled by all these good comments! damn she has like multiple personalities, she seems all sweet and bubbly, but whenever I go to C her, she has this serious stern look(maybe she doesnt like me)! But SHE IS NOT A FAIR MARKER...she claims that she'll give u points if u get the overall concept right on the exam BUT she won't give u anything!!
Brilliant and helpful! Course is pretty boring. Gave us the hardest possible questions on the final. Tips: YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO ATTEND CLASS! It's hard to committ yourself to solving problems (they're long, but not really hard) do as many as you can! Go over the assignments... In all a great class for learning, not so great for marks!
Totally recommended. Her lectures are clear; her exams are fair. She might seem a bit moody sometimes, but she's still one of the best profs i've ever had at McGill!
If you are forced to take a stats course, take this course with Amsel. With any other prof, I would have been bored to death, and would have failed. She's energetic, funny, clear, and helpful. Watch out for the TAs though... they're not so great.
One of the most personable profs at McGill. Clear, concsise, very fun teacher. Admittedly, her exams 'test' you in the real sense. Mindless plugging and chugging will not get you an A in her class.
Expect to do all the work in the course pack and STILL not do well on the exams. She spends more time explaining the math than showing us how to use the statistics tools, how to select the appropriate tool and why. Doesn't help that the statistics vocab is recycled and if you don't get sick of hearing the word "mean" in varying contexts, Bravo!
Prof Amsel is the best teacher you could think of to teach a stats class: she is funny, interesting and has her students' concerns in mind at all time. She will repeat as much as you want. She is very approachable and very clear. If you have to take stats II, do it with her, she is AMAZING and has a great sense of humor.
Great professor. Clear and precise and extremely fair. She makes herself available to a huge class and makes Statistics interesting. Very important to take this class from her if you want to enjoy a class in what has a difficult and boring reputation. Extremely recommended.
As mentioned, an excellent and entertaining stats prof for those who are intimidated by the class. I wanted to add a warning though: her lessons are designed to teach statistics to people who are NOT confident in math. If you have previous math experience (ie Calculus) it would save you a lot of time to just learn the material independantly
Interesting and helpful. Fair. Good sense of humour. 25% of your grade is assignments with resubmission, so you should get full marks there. Just do the exercises in the book, know how to define the terms and you'll be fine. Remember, the final is harder than the midterm, so don't slack off near the end.
An amazing teacher who actually cares about her students and will spend the entire afternoon explaining things to her students! She is a must for stats because no one else can help you out like she can and no one else can make something soooo boring not so boring. She will help you, just be polite and ask!
very good teacher, always has good humor.
Past experience in math will make a huge difference. If you are in the science, most likely you'll be frustrated with how slow she goes. If you are in arts, depends on how much math you've had in the past. Group project is frustrating so find reliable members early on. Overall I loved her, but you should decide after you're been to a class
AMAZING PROF! She knows what she's teaching, she makes the effort to make sure you get the material. A great woman, wonderful sense of humor. Take her courses every chance you can! She is of the rare breed that actually cares about her students.
makes math simple, interesting and enjoyable...who thought that was possible? occasionally goes a little too fast during class but her coursepack makes it easy to figure it out later. WAY better than any other stats prof
Awesome professor, that's all one can rightfully say.
AMAZING! She answers EVERYONE'S questions in class. She does not rush through the material, and she is very patient, kind and approachable. She is amazing at explaining math to anyone. Before I dreaded having to take this class. Now, it's actually one of my favorite classes. If you take PSYC 305 TAKE IT WITH RHONDA! You will not regret it!!
AMAZING prof! She's incredibly clear and interesting. Impossible to do poorly on the assignments. If you do all of the textbook exercises, you don't really need to go to class, although I would definitely recommend going. I enjoyed showing up to her classes every week. If you're going to take any stats class, take it with her!!
Great class, great prof.
I took 204 and 305 with her. By far my FAVOURITE prof at McGill. Extremely helpful, and very attuned to the class and whether they are grasping the material. She really truly cares that everybody understand.
Great prof, really helpful and clear. If you're actually planning on using statistics though, don't take 305 with her. Calculations by hand is useful when learning the basics in 204, but learning SPSS will be much more useful to you in the future, and she doesn't incorporate that to the course at all. The other section is pretty much all about SPSS
Oh Rhonda, you are my world. She is the best teacher I have had at McGill. I wish she taught more than just statistics.
Made statistics slightly more tolerable!
Makes the best out of a boring mandatory course. Not a good course at all, but a great prof.
Awesome prof! Super nice. Actually cares how you do, and knows an impressive percent of her students.
amazing prof. Super sweet, sense of humor, great class -definitely attend, just reading the textbook would be boring. And what she covers in class is enough; no need for textbooks, don't buy them. She gives you lots of chances to succeed so take them and you'll do good. Very easy midterm, very hard final, easy and fair assignments.
You know she's awesome when she is able to get you laughing at 8h30 in the morning.
Not as good as I expected. Class was really slow going over basic grade 11 math, no lecture recording or posted notes, tried to get a straight answer of if there would be a formula sheet to no avail. Easy assignments, did NOT learn basically anything. Nice lady though. Seems like a nice person who did care. Too many definitions on exams.
This teacher is unlike any other at McGill. Very available, great sense of humour. Cares about her students' performance. Will take questions during class. Very clear explanations. ONly prof I will remember after graduation. Really stands out.
She's nice but her lectures can be confusing. She tends to skip steps while doing problems so the class ends up pretty confused. The TA's conferences are really helpful and she lets you submit corrections for all assignments - if you're willing to put in the effort to do well, you will.
Very motherly. Makes a dry subject bearable. Exam was harder than I expected but doable. Gives lots of practice and her course pack is great. Definitely go to class, even though she goes slow.
SHE IS a super nice person! clear in explaining stuff. The course pack was extremely helpful. if you do all the questions in it, it is almost a guaranteed A. the assignments are also helpful to pull up the grades since there are 2 chances to submit them, the first submission was checked by ta and only the 2nd submission counts for grade
She was indeed a nice person. the only problem is that after a class on permutation and combination, It felt like I had walked out of a Mandarin Chinese class!
Amsel is my homegirl!! Seriously, though, she makes stats tolerable and accessible for her students. If you go to lectures, do the problems in the coursepack, and complete the assignments on your own, you should have no problem getting an A.
Very clear, very nice, goes slow (hardly feels like a university class)If you're a science student, you might find this class too easy/slow. Fantastic lecturer, choose this course for a relaxing 8:30am class.
She is a nice teacher but what surprised me was how much harder the final was than the midterm.
Best teacher for sure. Sweet and helpful, making stats a little less unpleasant. Final was brutal
Very nice teacher. She really tries to make a dry material interesting, in addition to being very caring for her students. The final is surprisingly difficult, so count on your assignment to compensate. Follow attentively the course pack and you should be fine.
Prof Amsel is really sweet and committed! Definitely made my most dreaded pre-req bearable with her awesome personality and comprehensive coursepack. However, the final was impossible!!!
Awesome teacher! Makes stats interesting (although the subject is boring). Likes to make jokes, explains very clearly and encourages to ask questions. She gives assignments that prepare you for the midterm/final. Fair evaluations, but warning: final is harder than midterm so don't slack off even if you get 95% on the midterm. Only use course pack.
She's definitely not an easy teacher but you learn a lot from her. She's really nice and funny. She's a good lecturer and cares about her students.
She is a really awesome prof and she is super helpful when needed.
Learned a lot about stats from this class, and made the subject interesting despite near zero prior interest. Great prof, constructs a helpful/comprehensive course pack that complements lectures well.
Amazing teacher. If you have to take a stats course, make sure you take it with her.
Im definitely not a stats-girl, or anything with numbers for that matter. Had to take this class as a pre req. Rhonda is a good teacher, she knows her stuff but its super important to go to class and do the practice problems in the course pack (text book is completely unnecessary)For the final, make sure you study definitions, its a rough exam
Don't care for stats, or this class, had to take it because i'm a psych major.. it's pretty easy, you don't need the textbook at all, just the course pack, the exams are super easy, exactly like the questions in the course pack.
I found that her way of teaching was all over the place. For PSYC 204, you can learn the material for the midterm in 4 hours if you start from scratch, the material is simply very easy as well as the midterm itself. The final exam, however, is significantly harder, so make sure to walk in with high 90s, and study hard for final so you can get the A
Super helpful, she takes good care to teach us what is truly important. Study what she shows in class, do the problems she gives in the course pack and you'll do great!
The course is not as intimidating as it might appear to be, and actually can turn out to be quite fun. The professor clearly knows her stuff and is quite motherly. However, not to take anything away, though this is to be noted: outside of class, she does show a tendency to get irritated sometimes and almost appears contemptuous on occasion.
I had her for psyc 204 and it was the easiest class ever. She has a coursepack and a text book (dont buy) and follows her course pack religiously and very slowly. Honestly, just know every single deffinition in her book (in your own words and descriptions) and if you have some basic algebra skills it'l be an easy A. Hope this helps. Best prof btw
Rhonda Amsel is a really good teacher. She is funny, she knows her stuff and is very clear when explaining her material. You can get an A in this class without problem, however you need to do the work also. Attending class is important in my opinion because she explains the concepts more in depth and do the exercises, it will really help you.
Best prof ever! I'm not a math person but she made this class interesting. She explains everything clearly, always reviews when the class doesn't understand. Regular assignments (25%) that you're allowed to resubmit help you keep up with the course and get easy marks. No complaints! The final was quite long, but doable if you practiced.
Best prof I've had at Mcgill..really wants you to succeed and doesn't try to trick you. Do the problems and go to class and you'll do well. Definitely take her. Great sense of humor too.
Great prof. She is clear, funny, and knows how to make her students understand the material (for instance, you can resubmit the assignments and understand what you did wrong). The exams are not easy but this course has a lot of material so it's normal. Definitely take this class with her if you can.
Great prof! Take her for 204 stats if you can. Exams are straight forward if you do the exercises (don't buy the book, but buy her course pack) However, don't expect to get your grades back any time soon...
What a nice woman, but terrible teacher! Everyone here says she is so nice, which is true, but I think it blinds them to the fact that she just cannot teach in an organized way! The TA's Elia and Maliha are fantastic, you can definitely get an A just by going to their conferences and learn the whole course just from Elia's slides alone.
Very nice lady! Obviously cares about her students and wants you to pass. She follows her coursepack religiously and it's all you need to pass the course. Midterm is relatively easy, the final is killer. Assignments help boost your grade. Beware if you're not good at math though.
RHONDA ROCKS. Her course pack is well organized and she allows a submission that isn't counted for each assignment so you can fix your mistakes and resubmit (you can easily get 100 on every assignment). The midterm and final were easy, just make sure to budget your time well as they're pretty long
She teaches very well and she is clear! She also makes the class interesting. The assignments (3) are easy and she gives you a second chance to fix your mistakes! The exams were fair if you study reasonably. Unfortunately, the course is not recorded.
One of my favourite professors!
I loved her class. No trick questions on the midterm nor on the final. Do the problems, go to tutorials, you'll do great. Advice: for the final exam especially, practice solving the problems quickly. Most of the students tend to run out of time for the final. Otherwise, one of my fav teacher this semester.
Amazing prof, hilarious but you still get stuff done in class (usually class finished early in the afternoon section). GO TO CLASS. Even though the course pack is super useful, it's only so when you go to class and copy her examples. Allows you to submit assignments twice (recommended), the textbooks aren't necessary but helpful if you miss class.
best prof
Very nice and fair prof, and really funny! Make sure you go to lectures and do the practice in the coursepack.
Prof Amsel is just the best. She's clear, concise, helpful and just a genuinely easygoing person. Attendance is really important- if you don't go to class, you don't get the notes and it's harder to catch up and understand afterwards. Do the exercises, hand in the assignments twice (if needed), and you'll do fine.
GREATEST PROF EVER TAKEN AT MCGILL! Her lectures are really clear, however, not recorded. But, if you attend her class, and pay attention (since she does the exercices with you and get really clear about it), it's an easy A. She offers second chance for assignments, which means most of time you get 100% in assignments.
the absolute best
Rhonda is a queen. She's so much fun to listen to that she almost convinced me that statistics are interesting. They're not. But this class is both extremely practical and fairly graded. If you have to take 305, DEFINITELY do it with Rhonda. Her course pack is a godsend, and assignmentsexams are really straightforward
Psyc 305 is required for psych majors and make no mistake, it's not interesting, but Rhonda makes it bearable and even enjoyable. Her coursepack is life, she's hilarious and she explains everything incredibly well. Her tests are long but fair, the assignments are easy, and you can resubmit if you make a mistake so she basically gives you 25%.
Rhonda is actually the best. I ended up loving stats!! Most clear and thoughtfully organized course pack I've ever used. You MUST attend the classes as the course pack only has the basics, enough to not feel lost if you miss one class. Easy A's for the assignments. Midterm was easy. Final was too long, dropped from an A- so practice the problems!
LOVE HER
Very good lecturer and she wants her students to pass
I am an arts student and statistics is not my forté, but Dr. Amsel made the course material very manageable. I highly recommend this class and PSYC 204.
Amazing prof. She is there to make sure everyone passes her class and is passionate about her subject. She makes stats fun and she's pretty funny!
Best prof I've taken at McGill! Took her for 204 and 305, she made both classes so doable and even enjoyable!
Rhonda is very clear and helpful. She will go over every concept with you till you get it. She makes stats fun and interesting. Class attendance and the course pack is a must. Overall, because of her, this class is the best class I've taken so far at McGill. Love Rhonda!
Rhonda is awesome. She explains things clearly and respects students. However, tests are hard and most people don't get above a B or B+ average. It's math though, so be prepared to learn a ton and practice a lot. She is there for you if you have a question but she is kind of snarky and can come off as rude sometimes. She's still great though.
She owns & trains therapy dogs. I've gone to office hours to cuddle with it & feel better about stats. Only need course-pack. She's AMAZING, helpful and respected. Allows assignment re-submissions, life-saver! Practice, PRACTICE!!! She made stats doable and motivating. Respects students and makes you feel good about yourself when you work hard too.
Really helpful prof! 5 hours of office hours *per week* in addition to very helpful conferences hosted by TAs to review that week's lecture material (all optional, of course). If you're confused about anything covered in lecture, go to office hours or conferences! She also provides ample opportunity to ask questions *during lectures*!
I never rate professors but Rhonda makes me compelled to do so. She is caring, kind and inspirational. Her lectures are crystal clear and she really cares about her students and holds lots of office hours. Definitely recommend! Very fair.
I didn't do well because I didn't go to lecture. This was a mistake. She is a terrific lecturer and teacher. She can make statistics bearable and that is an absolute accomplishment.
Amsel is a good prof. She will help you for sure if you need her help. Not hard at all, I skipped almost every class and ended up with an A. Allowed to resubmit your assignments. Funny girl!
A god among civilians
Rhonda is a very nice but spunky professor. She isn't afraid to talk down to anyone, but she is also ready to help if you need it. She may not be the most comforting professor, but she is there for you and makes everything easier than it seems. She allows for multiple questions from the class during class time and overall, she is a great prof.
She is dedicated to making her students understand
Rhonda is the best prof ever.
I don't find math particularly hard, but still I think she made statistics extra easy and mostly entertaining. Learn this stuff good and you will better understand and interpret information in other courses. It makes those courses easier. You learn a way of thinking which is harder to forget than pure facts. Very likable course and teacher!
Rhonda was an amazing prof that made statistics, a topic that is fairly dry and boring for many students, more accessible, easy to understand and interesting. Her lectures were engaging and focused, and she grabbed most students' attention. Also did lots of review. Class is fairly easy if you do the problems in the course pack, textbook is optional
Great prof. She's an interesting lecturer and she's dedicated to her students' success. I've seen some comments that she can be stern with people when they ask questions. I didn't see that at all in her (maybe people don't understand her sense of humour?). She's very caring and understanding. I highly recommend taking a class with her.
I absolutely loved her. Made me want to take more classes with her. I liked math before but was never into statistics, and she made it really easy and interesting. Very straightforward and will call you out in front of the whole class, but that just makes the class more enjoyable in my opinion.
350 characters isn't enough to express how amazing Professor Amsel is. She is undoubtedly one of the best professors I have come across. She genuinely wants everyone to succeed and makes them understand and love stats. She makes herself very available and explains everything until everyone understands. This woman deserves every award in the book.
I don't enjoy stats but I adore her, she does everything to make sure you're actually understanding and keeping up with her. She doesn't expect more than she should from her students and her personality just brightens up the room.
If math isnt your thing make sure you get Rhonda. She is clear and good at explaining difficult concepts. There are a lot of homework assignments but you get points for corrections. Getting an A is pretty doable if you do practice questions
Amazing teacher, I love you
Rhonda is one of the worst professors I have ever come across. Her exams have absolutely nothing to do with what she taught in class the entire semester, complete inability to teach the material effectively, she makes everyone feel bad about the questions they ask and downplays what she is looking for. Do not take her for PSYC 204 sats.
So I actually disagree with the person who commented below - I think she is a very fair professor, very understanding, and genuinely wants her students to do well. The exam was fair, and she is a very patient person who is willing to explain things again and again until you understand.
Keep in mind if you're considering taking this course: -The avg grade for midterm was a 67% - Be ready to study a LOT on your own time and do a bunch of practice problems. -Also a must to show up to every class to get a good grade, seeing as nothing is posted online
Dr. Ahmsel is a great professor but be ready to put in the work. Attendance is mandatory since she doesn't record lectures. A lot of her exams are based on the practice questions in the course pack so as long as you stay on top of that and do it weekly you will be fine for the exam.
She is a very knowledgeable person and wants her students to do well, so much so that she seemed almost angry when the midterm average was lower than she had hoped for (67%). She can be a bit sassy (which is great, in moderation). Her grading was fair and you should be able to do well in her class if you attend and review your materials.
I really love her classes even though I struggle hard with Statistics. I occasionally even find myself *liking* doing a statistic problem now, which I NEVER thought I would say in a million years. She doesn't use computers so get ready to calculate by hand, but I think she is passionate and dedicated and a fantastic teacher.
Prof Amsel knows her material very well, is an amazing lecturer, and always checks up on you during class to see if anything was unclear. Class moves at a slow pace as a result, can be redundant sometimes, but I think it's good for those who are new to statistics. Very unhelpful during office hours, however, which is a shame.
Prof. Amsel has been teaching this course since dinosaurs roamed the earth and it shows. Although she may be respected amongst students and the Psych Department, her lectures are mediocre - she doesn't do a good job explaining and does not make her materials accessible. Chooses not to record lectures although there is a clear accessibility concern
i really like Rhonda. This was my first time taking stats and she really made me love it. She's funny and classes are fun. there's 3 assignments, midterm and final. The assignments you can easily get full marks on because she lets you resubmit and her exams are fair. She goes through material slow and ensures everyone knows what expected. recommend
