Rhonda is helpful but you must attend class to pass.
Great teacher always there to help
Very nice, always smiling, enjoys helping students.
One of the best teachers I've ever had! Always available to help, even on the weekends! Mrs. Tenkku made this class easier to comprehend the sometimes difficult material.
Wonderful professor! The class isn't easy but she will do everything she can to help you understand.
Rhonda is the best teacher at the University. Her class is not easy and you have to attend, but she will go out of her way by all means just to help her students do good. She explains everything very clearly and will work with students at any time. I wish we had more teachers like her.
The class was ok. Test are 75% multiple choice.
Rhonda is a great teacher. She does lots of in class exercises to make sure that you are learning the material. Be sure to go to class to pass.
Didn't like her teaching style at all. Felt as if she was going way to fast and didn't spend enough time explaining things, however she did let us out early every time. Tests are very hard.
I didn't like her teaching style. It seems as if she has been donig this for so long, she forgets the students are mainly seeing this info for the first time. she moves way to fast and that's comming from a finance major.
This class is a LOT easier if you've had some upper level accounting. Rhonda is very nice, albeit, she assumes you already know some material (and you may NOT already know it). She gives out previous terms' exams for review, which is really helpful!
Rhonda is an excellent teacher. The pace IS fast, but its nothing that cant be handled. If you attend class and pay attention you will be fine. Beware, though, sometimes the practice tests are misleading. I aced them all, but did bad on a few real tests. All in all, i recommend her!
She does go out of her way to help... although she does skim through problems quickly, if you read the text or browse then you can follow with ease. Also very nice lady, never heard any snide comments as some teachers do.
very helpful, give out several versions of her old exams, had chat room the night before a exam if you have questions. but she does EXPECT you to read the chapter ahead and know the material. But overall , a very nice teacher
Tenkku is probably one of the best instructors at UMSL. She is very helpful but students must take the initiative to ask her questions. She is willing to set special study dates prior exams and spends ample time going over material.
Rhonda is a very understanding and helpfull teacher. Her exams are not too bad.
She is an easy teacher. She posts everything online. Just make sure to keep up with the chapters and the homework because thats all you do in class, is go over the homework.
She loves teaching! But, you really have to do your homework and read the tx.book. Online multiple choice questions will appear on her tests. You get to bring 3x5 card to a test with the formulas. Multiple choice is VERY hard! Ask her to change the test's set-up, like - have more problems and less M.C. questions. She'll do it! She is very flexible.
Rhonda is a great teacher and will help you with anything that you need help with outside of class. She has virtual office hours the nights before tests so you can ask her any last minute questions.
Rhonda is a nice lady, and she is a very good teacher; however, I would like to issue a warning: SHE IS TOUGH. Her exams are tricky, especially the multiple choice ?'s. Make a good 3x5 card for the exams, and be prepared to answer anything. Pay close attention to the notes, go to class...20% of your grade is for attendence & academic honesty.
She will always be there to help you. You get a 3X5 card on the tests, but you would not be able to survive without it. Her class is tough though. Overall, I would recommend her.
Would go out of her way to help you know what was needed. Also provides excellent sample tests to study by.
Excellent prof. Helpful and understanding
Nice woman. Tests are deceiving. The multiple choice (worth 56% of the test) is rough. The rest of the test is problems. They are do-able, but not worth enough to cushion your grade. Problem is: you feel like you know the material, but when it's crunch time...you don't. 3x5 card for the test, attendance is IMPORTANT: worth 10%
Good instructor. Grades generously. If you do the practice tests, you will do great on the tests.
Easy and fun course, instructor is good and takes her time out to help students.
She doesn't collect homework, but you will need to try doing it in order to be prepared for test. She is willing to help you and work with you but she has to see you are trying. Missing class will make you loose good information. I like her a lot!Easy as long as you do some work.
Decent teacher. Tests are tricky. Attendance is a must, it's 10% of your grade. Very nice teacher...too nice.
this was a mandatory class for my business degree. teacher is very knowledgable, willing to help you with anything, must attend class and read book.also gives extra credit.i liked the class, difficult for me though but i made it through.i would take this professor again.
This class was almost too easy. Lots of extra credit opps, 20% of the grade is just showing up and being honest, and she is flexible with test times as long as you don't go past the class time limit - it's not her fault the room is occupied by another class afterwards. Read the text, DO THE HOMEWORK, and you will do fine. She is sweet & helpful.
This class was commercial bank management. I was hoping to leave this class with a good understanding of banking, but instead all I got was a lot of formulas and ratios. I did not learn how to run a bank at all, and I could not even remember one single ratio if I wanted to now. The class is pretty easy though, I could have made an A if I wanted.
Great Teacher! If you study & go to class there is absolutely NO reason you shouldn't get an A. She gives extra credit and 10% of your grade is academic honesty and 15% is attendance. If you don't cheat and show up, you get 25% of your grade handed to you. She gives practice exams before tests and there is no homework. Don't take with anyone else!
Take her!! She is a very nice teacher! Her problems on the test are almost identical to the practice tests. The multiple choice is a little tricky. Go early for the test because you need to extra time. I would take her again!
Easy prof. As others pointed out, you get 25% just for being honest and coming to class. Expect to spend time reading the book b/c she will only talk about how to do the math in class (and how to use a financial calc). A lot of hw but they're useful (yes they are). A lot of extra credit. go to class, do hw, read the book and you're guaranteed an A
She is an excellent teacher who thoroughly explains the material.
She goes over examples in class and avoids fluff that won't be on the test. You get to use a note card on each tests. Class gets progressively easier. Homework is done online and you get 1/2 credit for just trying. It's only worth 8% of grade. Academic honesty is worth 10%. Attendance is worth 10%. Each test is worth 18%.
She is one of the best professors UMSL has to offer. She really wants to help her students succeed, and is very flexible with her availability. As others pointed out, you may want to go in a little bit earlier for the tests, since her exams do take time. Overall, I highly recommend her.
She REALLY wants to help everyone succeed. She gives a lot of sample exams before tests. She lets you use an index card, front and back, on the tests. I can't imagine a better professor for this class.
Gives you SO many materials to prepare! Tests are pretty hard- spend time on your notecard. Ask to sign up for her online class as well b/c you get extra credit for attending plus you can use their resources too (which are different). She is an excellent teacher- very caring. But you must go to class to succeed.
If you have any sick family members I would NOT recommend Tenkku. A close member of my family passed away half way through the semester & she wouldn't let me make up any work from the 2 weeks I was gone to plan visitation & funeral arrangements. SHE DOES NOT CARE!
Very very very good professor! The material is challenging, but she explains it very well. Gives you a note card for test and sample exams prior.
One of the best professors I have had at UMSL. She is great! She really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. She gives out lots of material that is helpful for the exams. I highly recommend her.
She was extremely helpful! Take advantage of the note card she allows on tests they really come in handy. She doesn't to much allow make up of missed work but she does offer small extra credit opportunities through out the semester.
Prof. Tenkku was terrific. She was very clear and always was prepared and made the material easy to understand. She didn't go over everything in the chapter, making the homework a little rough. You get past tests and a notecard though.
Happy with this professor. Read the chapters, come to class, do the homework and practice exams and you will do well in this class.
This class is very passable if your willing to do the work. Do the homework and when she offers practice tests to study, ask for extras. When making the 3X5 card for the tests try it out on the practice tests. If your having troubles tell her she will work with you.
If you are willing to do the work, an A is pretty reasonable. She is very nice and helpful. Really knows what she is talking about and shares good stories.
Very helpful and delightful instructor. She made every class fun and was always willing to repeat lessons if needed.
VERY FLEXIBLE with taking exams; she allows you a window to take in testing center. Lectures are straight forward; she gives sample exams to study from. She lectures pretty quick and lets out early. Handouts cover all the lecture materials. She takes an attendance grade, but plenty of extra credit opportunities if you have to miss class.
I loved her!! Overall great professor, one of the most helpful, interesting and interactive professors I've had at UMSL. She really does care about your success in her class and offers many avenues to contact her and receive extra credit. She always opens the floor for questions or points of clarity. No one should ever fail this class!
This class is not hard, even for non-finance majors. Show up to class, do the homework, and really study her practice exams. You will get a notecard to use for the exam so you won't have to memorize the financial formulas.
Excellent Professor. Come to class, Read the text, Study the Practice Exams. Allows 3x5 card on Exams. Easy A if you do all of the above!
She's clear with what she actually does present in class, the problem is that she goes over the limited examples very quickly. Her tests will throw variations of problems at you that you have never seen before, and which aren't on the review sheets. Somehow neglected to tell us about the $183 surprise charge for the class. Use the finance tutors.
Good teacher. Took the online Finance 3500 course, be sure to listen to each Wimba lecture. She offers a lot of extra credit, but the exams are nothing like the homework or lectures. Be sure to study the practice exams she posts. 3x5 notecard helps a lot on exams.
Tenkku is a very helpful Finance teacher. Attendance is taken every day and counts for a small percent of grade. Tests can be difficult but she provides a lot of practice tests with answers and how to work out problems. You are also allowed an index card to bring to tests. Allows flexible test times too. She is very nice and will always try to help
Professor was not a good teacher of the subject matter. Online class often got out early when I believe extra problems should have been brought up to explain subject matter. There was an assumption that the pre-requisite classes were taken right before this class and that was not so. This class was very difficult and syllabus hard to understand.
Rhonda's lectures are straight to the point. Her explanations are clear, problems are worked out. Sample exams are great practice for the real thing. Allows a single note card for exams. Complete all of the practice assignments and show up to class for the in class exercises, and study the practice exams and you'll get an A.
4 tests NOT CUMULATIVE,bring a 3x5 two sided notecard, attendance is required and counts for 5% of your grade, extra credit offered frequently but only counts towards attendance grade, teacher was available for assistance frequently in her office but rarely responded to my emails, practice tests are helpful, $183 surprise charge for bookhomework
Good teacher. Allows you to use the front and back of a 3x5 notecard for the tests and also had practice exams available for the tests. The connect homework was always ridiculous, it made you do stuff that she said in class we didn't have to learn. Make sure to study for the tests.
Lectures are a scramble no consistency between notes posted and lecture material. Problems done in class had little to no explanation, often times she would work a problem and then find an error back in the beginning of said problem, but not rework or explain how to fix the problem being solved.
Is she a good teacher? Yeah. But she hardly teaches the subject since she often cancels class or lets us out early. You are allowed a 3x5 notecard on exams but they are still hard nonetheless. I passed her class but worked nonstop and taught myself most of the material to do so. She's there for you but be ready to work hard for your passing grade.
She is willing to help at anytime. But sometimes she will be really short with you like it was a stupid question. The tests overall are difficult because of the format. You have 20 multiple choice worth 3 points each and 9 problems worth 5 points each. So she does give you 5 points extra credit if you have time to finish the test? Overall ok class.
She started out cool giving all students anything they needed such as books and calculators and answers. Her lectures are increasingly boring and she doesn't stop for anything, just keeps on talking and expects everyone knows what she's talking about. Extremely strict grading, does not grant leniency anywhere even with valid excuse or reasoning.
Lectures are the worst I've had in college. She never stops talking and her voice annoys the living hell out of me. She scribbles on the chalk board like it is 1981 and she thinks she is funny when she is not. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. The only life saver is the note card on the test. Can't stand her voice
Study, study, & study some more. Tests are tough & she is a strict grader but she will take time to go over anything you're struggling with. My advice is do ALL practice tests & spend a lot of time with finance tutor. Very nice teacher but you will need to work for it. Homework can be tough but you get 3 attempts. She cares. I would take again.
I would not suggest taking this professor for 3500. She is nice but lectures are boring and you spend most of the class correcting her algebraic mistakes. She allows a notecard and gives practice exams so you think you will pass without a doubt but the multiple choice questions are ridiculous. The math portion is similar to practice exams.
minimal effort required. do the homework assignments and use the practice exams she posts before the tests. Lets you take a notecard in for every test, front and back. Using the practice exams to make the notecard pretty much guarantees a good grade.
This was one of the easiest classes ever! If anybody fail this maybe a major involving numbers is just not for you!
Good teach. Easy. Just do the hw and you'll be fine. She lets you use a 3x5 on exams.
Many extra credit opportunities. Some material on Exams is not covered in class. Final is non-comprehensive. In the online class, she has a scheduled live video course so students can ask questions in real time.
Doesn't give good notes at all. Doesn't teach the material for the multiple choice well. Gives very tough multiple choice on tests.
With the 100% online course, she has "class" online twice a week, but you can watch recording whenever works best for you. Simple weekly problems count as your attendance, and she provides a good amount of extra credit opportunities. I never had to meet her in person, but she was always good about responding to emailed questions. Would take again.
Spend 95% of the class learning financial equations and 80% of test time doing them. Those financial equations are worth 40% of the test grade though while 60% of the points are based off 20 multiple choice questions that she didn't talk about. Test equations are based off her study guide, not homework. Class test mean/median below 70% every time.
She's a pretty good teacher. Her exams are tough. But she let's you use a 3×5 notecard on her exams so that helps a lot. She gives plenty extra credit opportunities too. Personally, I think she's ok. This is just a hard class that requires a lot of work. She's not bad. Besides, I've had worse teachers at UMSL in terms of Robert McCarthy.
She does allow a 3x5 note card with just about you want to put on it. Use the practice exams that she posts, these are very helpful. Her multiple choice questions are difficult. The first test I took I ran out of time - some time management is very important for her tests. You will get partial credit on the write problems on the test.
This course has been difficult to endure my whole time at UMSL. I have taken this course 3 times, which I am currently in it now (in person). While taken it 2 times online and still haven't passed. You basically have to teach yourself. The exams are hard; however, she does allow you to bring in a 3x5 notecard. The multiple choice is harder.
Do not take this professor! Tests are insane and nearly impossible to pass. You are allowed a cheat sheet for the exams but you still will struggle because she includes 20 multiple choice questions that she DO NOT cover throughout the semester.
My 1st time taking a finance class & I heard her exams were hard. I was worried but ended up getting over 100% in the class & finance isn't my cup of tea. A lot of people don't do well in this class but if you put forth the effort you can obviously succeed - my lowest exam was a 97%. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS, read, go to class, type a good notecard.
I'm in the midst of her online course now, and she is mediocre at best. Her lectures are nearly useless, as she just sputters through a bunch of formulas with very little actual teaching. The only syllabus she gave us was for her summer course, leaving us with little knowledge about deadlines. Poor quality plannig and teaching. Avoid if you can.
Ms. Tenkku is a great person/professor but her tests are pretty difficult if finance isn't your strong suit. Yes, you're given a index card every exam but if you don't understand it then it will barely help. I would say make sure you go to class, in every study session, do extra credit. I barely passed with a C. I like her but not fond of the class
I'm an accounting major so I figured this class wouldn't be too bad, but overall the class gave me a hard time. It's more memorization than actually learning the material. She gives a good amount of extra credit so do that, but exams are tough. You get a note card to reference and study the multiple choice as it's kind of a free for all.
Her class wasn't too difficult for me as I am an accounting major but she is a bit hard to communicate with. She takes forever to reply to emails sometimes days after exams. You do get a notecard for the exams but I would try to understand the material so that you do better. You a lot get a lot of extra credit.
I'm a senior, and my GPA is 3.985. This class is tough. Lots of homework, useless & time consuming lectures, assignments, etc. I have received more help from google than the teacher. She never responds to emails/canvas messages. I've had to call her and leave messages. When she does respond, the information provided is not helpful at all. Horrible.
Stay away from this professor. Good luck getting a hold of her, she never responds to emails about course activities, there are graded assignments where the supposed correct answer is wrong, so you'll lose points despite having the actual answer, along with getting tested over nonsense in the book never covered or mentioned by her.
Never responds to email/canvas messages. I have sent five messages now asking what I have made on my first two exams in her class. I have no idea what my standing is in the class right now. She is a horrible professor! Avoid her if you can.
Finance 3500 online is a class that is a self study class. Professor Tenkku, expects you to know some basic accounting terms so she gets right into it without further explanation, this is okay for accounting majors like me but for non-accounting majors this can be difficult. This class was ok , but can be difficult if you don't put in the work.
I took Finance 3500 during the summer which was around 4-week class. Professor Tenkku is a good teacher but the class had A LOT of homework. There was two-three assignments due every day pretty much. She is super nice and replies to emails. The tests are decently easy but if you have any trouble, shell help. Overall, easy class but LOTS of work.
