First year teaaching. GREAT teacher. FUN. makes it interesting. more than willing to help. DEFINITELY take her class- i was dreading chemisty, and it is my best class now. She's so funny, and will make sure you know what she's talking about before she moves on to another subject. tests are multiple choice with extra credit. NEVER opened book. TAKE!
Hard subject, decent teacher. Tests are hard, even if you study. Way more complicated than homework and study guide. Decent teacher, not hard to understand at all. Attendance not madatory but highly recommended. Study and go to class and do the homework and study guides and you should be able to get a B.
Chemistry is a really hard subject, but since her homework and study guides aren't as hard or worded the same as the tests, it makes the class harder then it has to be. She let's the class have input and the lab can save your grade, but i would not recommend taking her class.
She is the worst Chem teacher that I have ever had. Stay away from her. I was extremely good at chem and it came easily to me until I took this class! She cannot teach and she doesn't like to help the class.
SUPER HARD! She gets really frustrated when you don't understand what she is teaching. If you ask a question she just looks at you like you're dumb. Do all the homework, study guides and read the book. Attendance isn't mandatory but it would be in your best interest to go. Make sure you PAY ATTENTION to what she says and you'll probably get a B.
This class was terrible.
The general and organic part of this chemistry was fairly simple, but when it came to the biochemistry part, I recommend finding a tutor. She knows what she is talking about, but just expects you to understand it on the same level as her. I came out of the class with an A, though.
This class was extremely difficult. I enjoy chemistry, but studying for 8 hours only to fail a test.. not my cup of tea. Grades homework strictly, biochem section was TERRIBLE, tests were impossible. Find a smart person in your class who really understands to help you.. thats how i made it out with a B. Plus, lab grades really help. go to class
very hard class- she gets made at you when you don't understand the material. Tests are extremely difficult-especially the short answer part. However, she does reward partial credit back on tests if you do test corrections. The lab will save your grade. Good luck.
dr.ramoutar is funny and really does make sure her students understand the material. never used the book. made an A. GO TO CLASS. everyone who said shes hard or a bad teacher didnt go to class. pay attention and ask questions and you will definitely get atleast a B. would definitely take her class again.
I only missed 3 classes and did every homework assignment, but I still didn't do well in the class. I was an A-B student in high school and I always studied for her tests. Study guides helped, but tests were worded completely different & are confusing. The textbook was used for one homework. Nice person, hard class.
Her class is hard and its hard to understand her. She is not very helpful and gets mad when you ask her a question about the work. The powerpoints are useless cause they do not give any details on how to do the topic. The test are harder than her homework. I recommend not getting her as a teacher. The only thing that will save you is lab work.
she is a nice person but she cannot teach for nothing!!! I dont know who gave her, her degree. Her hw is crazy hard and dont plan on using google. She gets mad when ppl ask her questions. She doesnt know about the subject herself. Do not take her!!!!!!!!!!
It's hard, but it's not that bad of a class. This is a weedy out class for nursing majors so yeah it's going to be somewhat difficult. Obviously, these people didn't know they were in a chem class!! You need to attend every class cause the book is not that helpful. I will agree, she isn't a prof, but work hard and you can get an A!!
She's really sweet. But her lectures are VERY hard to understand. She'll leave out important details about the subject and when asked why she didn't tell us the details, she'll say, "Well you should have known that!" or "I thought you guys knew!" Not a very helpful teacher. Didn't learn much.
This class is very challenging to say the least. If you like to teach yourself the material you will do fine in this class. She acts as though explaining problems/concepts is a hassle and expects you to know everything before she teaches it. She makes the class harder than it has to be and I would recommend finding a different professor.
Really didnt like her. My class was at 8am, but that had nothing to do with it. She expected students to already know stuff and didnt explain things. Definitely wouldnt take her if you have the choice.
Horrible teacher... hard and not helpful.. you have to know everything pretty much to pass and her test are ridiculous and her study guides are so unhelpful. DONT TAKE HER!
These reactions towards Dr. Ramoutar is a pathetic attempt at excusing laziness! She does an A+ job teaching and if you go to class (which YOU ARE PAYING FOR) and go to her office, she will work hard to make you understand these concepts. No, she does (read next comment)
She was a decent teacher, but she did expect students to automatically know what she was talking about, and she got frustrated when she had to explain something twice. Her tests were extremely hard, not really like the homework. I wouldn't recommend her if you can take someone else. The only thing that saved my grade were the homework's and labs.
I loved taking her class. If I could I would take her for 1146. If you dont understand go to her office hours and she will work with you. I could have gotten an A in the class but I didnt really put the work into the class. She is very fair and if you ask nicely she will throw in some extra credit.
I love Mrs. Ria!!!!!!!!
Professor Ramoutar is a good professor, but you must REALLY put forth a lot of hard work to pass this class. Each week you will do an online prelab, have online hw, and do a lab in class. We had like 3 or 4 POP quizzes throughout the semester. She posts all the slides online, & if u study diligently & pass the tests u will do good. U MUST study tho
I thought she was a good teacher. Her tests are really hard and you MUST study. But, let's be serious, it's college chemistry and no matter the teacher you're going to have to study and it won't be easy! Anyone who bashes her was probably lazy. I liked her a lot, she was funny. Made an A+ in the class too :)
Chem 1145 was RIDICULOUSLY hard, BUT Dr. Ramoutar did everything in her power to make sure that I passed that class. Extremely helpful woman. Doesn't take any crap from slackers. Show some effort...and she'll be more than willing to help you!
I would not recommend taking her if you aren't really good at chemistry. She breezes through the notes and is a little hard to understand at times due to her accent. I found her patronizing as she laughed at me when I asked questions. She uses Mastering Chemistry which is time consuming, but does bring your grade up, 3 tests and a cumulative final.
Nice lady, BAD teacher. She expects you to know a lot already and gets frustrated having to explain things more than once. Tests are hard, and homeworks are even harder. Labs will save your grade. It's not impossible to do good, but I would take a different teacher if possible. She definitely makes it harder than it should be.
I never took a college level Chem, and I only took chemistry in high school...so I sucked.I took her class during Term A, I was studying every day doing homework and I made A C(I bombed the final). She doesn't like helping directly but she gives lots of opportunities to raise your grade so idiots like me can pass lol
She was a pretty cool teacher. I had a very fun class so that made it good. Her first test was really easy and I made a 99 on it, but the next 2 tests after that were extremely hard. She gives you chances to bring your test grades up, and you better be at class. At the end of the semester I had a 90 going into the final and got an A. Great Teacher.
very hard class but if you study it shows
Dr Ramoutar is a good teacher. I didnt take the class seriously in the beginning but I still passed it with a B. She will want to help as long as she sees you're trying. I made a B on the first exam and bombed the other two. With some extreme studying I did extremely well on the final. Just study and you'll be fine.
Funny
dont take her.... enough said
Her test are completely unreasonable!
Do NOT TAKE HER for 1146, she is new to teaching it and completely sucks at it. 1145 with her was easy as long as you showed and studied. i got an A, but her tests are unreasonable and she wont give you enough time. the whole class has failed each test and she blames us. when clearly it is her own fault
By for one of the worst professors at georgia southern. She reads of her slides and expects yo to know it. He tests are hard. she gives no extra credit. I beg you not to take her or you will most likely fail
Tests are absurdly hard for the amount of actual teaching she does and does not relate to the difficulty of the hw. I went to class everyday and I promise, all she does is read off of her powerpoints and act frustrated about students with questions. In all honesty, Georgia Southern needs to oust Professors like this if they want a better University
PEOPLE IN MY CLASS WOULD CRY WHILE TAKING HER TESTS!!!
Her test were very hard and I study really hard to where I would almost be in tears during the test. However she is very nice and if you take the time to stop by her office she is very helpful. GO TO labs it really saves your grade I made a D or C on every test and still got a B!
I took a Chem class in high school and only passed one test. Taking her class my first exam I made a 98 and on all of the quizzes I made a 100 plus the extra credit. Good teacher wouldn't say great. Foreign, have to pay attention. Labs are very helpful for learning the material. Go to class and study the slides, the book only helps a little.
By far the worse professor at GSU. I honestly have never studied so hard for a C. She expects you to know the information as if you were an actually chemist! And she actually told my class that! Dont think about asking her a question because she gets really angry and tells you to find the answer on your own. Avoid her at all cost!
Terrible teacher.... Does not explain anything!!!!
She is a very hard instructor. She expects you to know everything and sometimes gets frustrated if you dont. Her tests are tricky but she gives you chances to make it up. Work hard on the labs and home works I failed all the tests except one and still ended up with a B because of homework and labs.
I thought Dr. Ramoutar was an excellent teacher, and a sweet lady, but was not an easy A by any stretch. As difficult as she is, she will help you in her office as much as you need to understand the material. As someone else has said, though, she has no patience for those not willing to put in the work. Science majors should take her.
Dr. Ramoutar is a really nice teacher. She makes sure everyone understands something before she moves on. TAKE HER!
Although Ramatour doesn't have the best rating, I found that I LOVED her. She is such a good teacher and while her class isn't easy, it isn't too bad either. It requires work, but she makes sure that the class understands the material and is taught well. Overall a great teacher and I reccomend her! Esp. for pre-nursing majors! Learned a lot!
Great teacher. Point blank period.
Dr. Ramoutar is not good at explaining chemistry on a level to where students can understand it as easily as they should. She made the class harder than what it actually is. If I wouldn't habe had such a good background in chemistry from my high school, I would have definitely gotten a C. Take another teacher. Trust me.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is super hard! Her class caused me to have anxiety throughout my semester. I was great at Chemistry in high school maintained an A but her class is outrageous! Her test are so hard they are nothing like the homework! Please do not take her and spare yourself.
Her class is tough because Chemistry its self is tough. Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend you go.If you need help GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS! She is very helpful there. I did not put in enough effort and will be taking this class again. But it is possible if you do more than me and actually try.
Do not taker her!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She's horrible at teaching and doesn't take into consideration that most people taking this class haven't had chemistry since high school. She's moves at a super fast pace and tends to be rude to people who ask questions. Try your hardest not to pick her for CHEM 1145.
If you have a choice, you better choose Dr. Ramoutar. Though her tests are difficult, if you read the textbook, trust me you'll pass her class. Sometimes, she bring questions from examples in the textbook. And she is super nice. Take her!!! :)
Dr. Ramoutar is a great professor. However this is college and no grade is just handed to you. My advice would be to take notes that she writes on the board and pay attention to what she is saying. She is a very nice person, I took her both semesters and made A's.
I would not recommend taking her class. It's not awful but I didn't necessarily enjoy it. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to pass it is. She gets mad if you ask questions and don't understand something she thinks is "easy". Her tests are VERY hard and I recommend to buy the book. If you aren't good at Chemistry DON'T TAKE HER!!
She knows a lot about the subject, but I feel she has a hard time actually teaching it in a way for students understands. I spent hours and lots of time studying for this class and ended up with a B. I'm just glad it's over.
She was a wonderful teacher. I sat at the front and paid attention dilligently and learned everything. She gave alot of extra credit on tests and I made 112 on some of them! Great class, great teacher!! Labs however were a challenge for me and often felt very confused.
Horrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER. She expects students to know the material and when the class does not understand something she gets frustrated. Her tests are ridiculously hard and she knows it. She wants to be helpful, but she really isnt. She told me that in order to do well in her class I needed to practice chemistry 3 hours a day. Avoid her!!
Not a good teacher. I'm basically learning everything from a tutor. Do not take her class. If you're a nursing major(chem 1151 and 1152), make sure you get the other professor.
Love Ria!! Her class may seem hard at first but keep up with the homework, pay attention in class and lab, and study before a test using your book and you can easily pull a B out of the class. The tests are hard but she usually gives plenty of bonus points on them. The quizzes are easy as long as you participate in class work. Very helpful in lab.
She takes forever to give back tests. She does not tell you what you did right or wrong on the tests especially on the multiple choice portion. You must go to class to pass the class. She's okay but I did not think she was a good prof. I had to get outside help on some portions of the class. I do not recommend her. Nursing majors take someone else!
Not a good professor. Would not recommend her to nursing students, more than half of the class dropped before midterm. Take someone else if you can!
Do NOT take her. She is horrible. She knows her material but she expects everyone else to know the material like she does from 10 minutes of lecturing. First time I asked her a question she yelled at me. I study a ridiculous amount and I'm about to get a D and fail the class. She should be fired because she can't teach!
You HAVE to go to class and lab in order to pass, even though she has no attendance policy. Her quizzes are nearly impossible to pass, masteringchemistry is quite hard, and often it asks you to complete things that you haven't talked about yet. I studied a ton just to get a B. I changed my major because of her class.
I loved Dr. Ramoutar! I'm taking her for 1152 this semester, also. She is very nice and helpful during her office hours. Her tests are extremely easy if you study the notes and can apply what you learned instead of expecting her to ask the same question on her tests as are in the notes. This is college. Do your work and earn your grade.
Her class is pretty hard .. I would not have passed without going to her office hours .. tests are hard and she expects you to know info in the book that she hasn't gone over in class.. she's nice but not easy
Professor Ramoutar really knows her stuff, but isn't very good at teaching it. She gives a lot of extra credit on tests, but don't expect to get an A in this class unless you study like crazy. Also wouldn't recommend taking her unless you are pretty good at chem. She gets frustrated if the class doesn't understand what she is trying to teach.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Extremely hard and gets frustrated when the class does not understand. Her tests are 10x harder than the material she goes over in class. I dropped because she told me there was no way I was going to get above a C-. Save yourself and take someone else!
I would not recommend taking her. Her class is very hard, and she does not really like to answer questions while lecturing. Her tests are also very difficult, but she does curve the grades. Homework is also graded and online.
Pretty good professor, and although it probably helped that I was already familar with her material.Very helpful in off hrs,STRONG accent.HW online.Must attend class although theres no attendance policy. She reminds you when there are quizes, and they help alot. Remembers names and grades quickly. I would recommend her, but not if youre a slacker.
I attended every class and lab, and still had to drop her class. Her lectures are okay, but the test were SO hard! She does get frustrated at the class when you don't know the material. I wouldn't recommend her.
Her tests are hard, but fair. You have to study or go to her office hours. The labs are fairly easy. She is very helpful. If she asks if you understand, be honest. She wont stop and clarify unless you ask. I literally made 60-75s on my Exams, and still managed a B. Just do really well on the Labs and Homework. Gives ExtraCredit, but no curves.
I definitely should have dropped this class. I thought that maybe if I stuck it out it would get better. She is a very tough grader and does not give half credit. The tests were the hardest thing I've ever done and she is not very helpful. Her explanations make no sense. Her lab is pretty easy though and she is helpful there. She lectures past time
DO NOT take her. She is a horrible professor. Test questions have nothing to do with the material she teaches.
Professor Ramoutar is a GREAT person but can be a pain sometimes. I'm all for putting a lot of responsibility on a student but she definitely went on a week and a half break and left the classes pretty far behind. We were playing catch up for the rest of the semester. She's so sweet though. This is NOT a class you can BS in. She is not the one!
This was a hard class. Needed a C to move on to next course but got a D. The final really knocked me down.
Ramoutar was pretty cool. She sometimes got mad for no reason, and it shocked the entire class. For the most part, Ramoutar was a decent professor. Tests were lethal, so go to Supplemental Instruction as much as possible. She expects the class to be reading though, so try to keep up in the book.
Awful professor, worst I have ever had. She is all over the place and hard to follow. Oh and mastering chemistry work is extremely long. Most professors give you up to a hour but hers took multiple hours. She doesn't tell you what you missed on her exams and there is no key to check your answers. She lectures past time and skips slides examples.
Dr. Ramoutar is very nice and will help you if you ask. She assigns mastering chem homework due every fri but with so much extra credit you can get over 200% on every one. She also gives practice exams on mast. chem too. Her tests are kind of hard. Her lecture slides are online and she gives you lots of practice in class. She really cares.
Took her for online Chem. She is computer illiterate and makes constant spelling mistakes. She would have different due dates for the same assignment posted everywhere, so nobody really knew when to turn stuff in. In the end she screwed up my final grade and I had to email her back and forth for a day to get it set straight.
She is probably the worst teacher I have had at Georgia Southern. I caught he being wrong on quizzes and test. Like her only job is to be right. Her test were difficult and lectures were not explained very well at all. Had to read to understand anything at all, not saying this is a bad thing just wasn't what I expected. Would not recommend.
Many students complain about Dr. Ramoutar, but if you come to class, pay attention, and study, you will be fine. Chemistry is not typically an easy nor enjoyable class for me, but I look forward to going to her class! There are only 4 exams during the semester and I earned a 100 on the first two. She offers extra credit on all assignments.
I loved Ramoutar! People don't give her enough credit. College chemistry is not supposed to be easy and she does make you work for it. You need to practice a lot on your own but it all pays off. Her tests are very tough but prepare you for the final which is made by the department, not her. I failed 3 out of 4 of her tests, but passed the final.
The lectures feel like they last forever, but she posts the slides online so not too much extra note-taking. Her tests are tough, but the final is a lot easier because she doesn't make it. Homework and quizzes weekly. She's not a bad teacher, but I would definitely recommend Osborne if Chemistry is not your strong suit.
the worst professor i have ever had. horrible, doesn't gove credit when she makes mistakes. very unorganized. doesn't let you know what you made on final.
Ramoutar wasn't the best teacher I had, but she wasn't the worst either. She's a very hard grader, and you need to study for the exams or you'll do poorly. There's homework about every week, and you can expect lots of quizzes in between exams. Labs weren't too difficult considering she was just a supervisor and the GTA in my lab graded everything.
I had Dr. Ramoutar for CHEM 1151. She over simplified everything in class and made tests difficult, but if you study you will be fine! She expects you to put effort in. She does make a lot of grading mistakes so go to her office hours and go over exams.
She sucks at grading test, she claims things will be on the test and they wont be, her voice and laugh is so annoying, her test are super hard and cumulative, she can be rude, and so on and so on. Bright side: Her homework gives a few bonus points.
She seriously over simplifies the material so the tests are tough. She doesn't mark anything wrong on the test so you have no idea what is wrong and when you go to her to talk about it she tells you to redo every problem. She cancels office hours often. Do the homework and quizzes it will boost your grade. I would recommend taking someone else.
Changed my major so I don't have to take CHEM 1152. She's not entirely clear or over explains things to the point of confusion. Stay on top of everything, because everything towards the end of the course uses everything you learned in the beginning. The final was easy though because it's a department test, her tests are harder. Good luck.
Was HORRIBLE. DO NOT TAKE. I had to basically teach myself
I would not recommend taking this professor! I struggled all semester in this class. Her test are extremely hard and it does't reflect what she teaches. The quizzes and homework will help your grade but overall DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!
If you're good at chemistry, you'll do fine in this class but you definitely have to study for the tests. The homework and quizzes are a good grade booster so do those for sure. I never really struggled in this class but if I weren't interested in chemistry at all I would have had a hard time because she just reads off the power point.
Do not let the bad reviews scare you, Professor Ramoutar is an amazing professor. Her class is difficult, but you will do good on tests as long as you study. The quizzes and Hw are great grade boosters.. I'm talking 120s on quizzes. The class is not an easy A, but if you work for it, you will get the grade that you want.
If you don't study you will not pass! Tests are hard. Make sure you read the textbook before tests because she uses information from the book that is not gone over in class. Quizzes and Homework are easy. She will answer your questions in class if you ask.
Dr. Ramoutar is a below average professor. Her lectures are difficult to understand (heavy accent and lisp) and she often stumbles over herself or makes a mistake. The lectures often do not represent the HW, which doesn't represent quiz, which doesn't represent the test, and so on, and so forth. Attendance luckily isn't mandatory, you're better off
I DISLIKED HER class so much. She can be hard to understand because of her accent. She has a Ph. D, so of course she knows what she is doing. The homework's could be confusing at times but they do come with a little bit of extra credit. Her tests were hard along with the quizzes. She will not tell you what you did wrong on a test. SHE was hard.
I suggest taking her class if you know that you're good at chemistry. Although she has an accent and a lisp she isn't that hard to understand. The quizzes every week are kind of hard so I suggest working in groups. There's also homework due every saturday but the have a lot of extra credit. She's kind of shady when you ask questions lol
Tests are extremely specific and difficult. She is not understanding when it comes to medical problems and will not respond in a timely matter to emails. She ignored the deans email about my medical issue as well. I really enjoy chemistry and was successful in the lab, but I would never take her again, nor recommend her.
At first I did not like her at all, but she grew on me. Just go to class. She gives a lot of extra credit at the end of the course. I had an 82-84 the whole semester and some how I ended with an A and im not complaining. Just study and attend lecture. She's caring and will help you if needed. Taking notes and looking over them is best.
Dr. Ramoutar's class is tough. Be prepared for hard tests and hours of homework and quizzes every week. She likes to keep labs short which is great when you have it at 8am. She's a really nice lady and cares for her students
Very hard and difficult class. Her lectures are not very clear and hard to understand. Does not like to answer questions during lecture and can get irritated if you ask a lot of questions. Tests are over book material not lecture and are very difficult. She does give A LOT of extra credit but, online quizzes are very hard to pass. Definitely, use SI.
She might come off as harsh, but if you go to class and go to the SI sessions then you should be able to pass the class. Really make sure to go to SI because that helped me understand the material.
Dr. Ramoutar is an amazing professor. She cares about students that actually try and work hard. Yes, her test are difficult, but if you study and utilize your resources (i.e. Office Hours and SI) you will pass. She also offers lots of extra credit when you do the HW. if you go to class, go to SI and ask questions, you'll get a A/B in this class
Terrible professor, come off as very rude and uncaring. Attempts to make jokes about everything rather than keeping an organized grade book. If you have to take chemistry wait for another professor, or take it online
No matter how much I studied for this class, Ive never passed any of her tests. I made above 100s on the homework and quizzes. The lab was fun and easy, but prepare yourself for her tests.
There are a lot of mean things about her on here and she really is not bad. Yes, you do need to go to class and do your homework. But she offers a lot of extra credit and is always willing to answer questions. Her chem tests are pretty hard but I have enjoyed this class with her & any chemistry class will be hard.
Lectures are boring and not mandatory, but you will understand better if you go. Lots of extra credit from homework and quizzes, which are mostly online. Tests are difficult. Study what she tells you will be on them and you will do fine. You will have to work hard for your grade. Go to SI sessions for extra help and ask lots of questions.
Go to class, have her see your face, and talk to her! She will help you if she knows you're willing to work. Do NOT buy the textbook, it was a waste cause I never read it. Lots of homework, but its helps for the test. Hard to understand her at times, but if you ask her to go back and explain she will.
she's pretty nice if you manage to become a fav, she a bit petty though. The class is easy as long as you go to SI and do the homework. The lectures are very boring and her tests are hard.
Dr. Ramoutar is overall a great professor. She gives lots of extra credit. Her accent is NOT bad at all, its understandable. Her office hours and SI were very helpful.
She always has bonus questions at the end of tests for extra points.
Dr. Ramoutar CAN be a nice person, however, is usually extremely rude to students she doesn't favorite. She is less than a good teacher but seems to know her way around chemistry. She cannot follow questions and tries to make jokes all lecture instead of teaching. We once had a sub who taught us more in one class than the 3 months with her.
This class was very hard. The lectures weren't terrible because we had the slides printed out and she basically reads them and you follow along. However, tests were a WHOLE different story. Tests were extremely hard. I would study for weeks and still fail the test. Her tests seem to be way more advanced than what she teaches.
She moves fast but is very interactive and likes a response from the class. She give sooooo much extra credit, it helps out a lot and really balances out your overall grade if you do bad on the exams! Go to her office hours! Shes the best!
She's rude. I found it so unprofessional that shebberated the class daily for asking questions about previous lectures. If you go to her office hours for help, all that will be is a roasting session of you intelligence. She tries to engage but immediately reverts to snarkyness. I dread having to see her because I always leave feeling dumber
Would never take this professor again. So rude and laughs at you for asking questions. Made a girl cry. Yells at you for checking your phone, and calls you out in front of the whole class and makes you answer questions she knows you don't know the answer to. Sometimes hard to understand.
She's the worst teacher i have ever had no doubt.
I have read the ratings on Dr. Ramoutar, but I definitely have a different opinion about her. Chemistry is extremely difficult, but if you take the time to get to know her personally, you will pass her class. You do need to go to SI Tutoring and to Dr. Ramoutar's office whenever you can to get extra help. She does honestly care about her students!
Chem is already hard but if you go to class and pay attention you can do well. If she sees you coming to class and paying attention she will help you out. I would take her again.
She may seem too sarcastic and mean, she is actually really nice. If you show her that you are putting in effort and actually paying attention, she will love you. Her class isn't as difficult as some people may say. there are quizzes every Friday on what we learned that week. Show up to class and study. If you don't study, you might struggle.
If you have to take this class for Nursing School, opt out of this teacher. I liked her as a person, but her grading was really hard. Kinda hard to understand, and she kept making mistakes about tiny details. Sometimes shed give us a lecture and the day before the test shed tell us that she taught it wrong in some areas...
She is an overall good person but, hard grader. I WOULD NOT take this teacher again. She will call you out in the middle of the class.
She is such a hard grader, and her tests make no sense. She won't tell you what you got wrong either. Her standards are crazy high so don't expect to do well!!!!!!
She didn't like my personality and how I learned so I felt targeted the entire class. She was also pretty disrespectful on several occasions and does not answer emails. I would not recommend her to anyone.
Super rude!! She treats the class as if we are still in high school, making snarky remarks and singling certain people out. Im a super easygoing person, and normally get along with everyone but I absolutely would not recommend her to anyone
She is nice as a person but not a good professor at all. Everyone fails her quizzes and tests and she refuses to curve or do anything to help the students. You either get it or you don't. If you are good at chem take her, if you are new, take anyone but her. She expects you to know everything beforehand. AWFUL professor. DON'T RECOMMEND!!!
She really does not care about her student's grades at all. Everyone fails exams and quizzes and she barely gives any extra credit. You can't even see your grade until the middle and then the end of the semester. Like she does not care and nothing you say will get her to care. Don't take unless you want to fail.
Took an online class with her, so in class experience may differ, that being said, she is a HORRIBLE online instructor. She was completely disorganized, making last minute changes regularly. She did not teach any content, rather just outsourced to other programs. Overly difficult and confusing course for a non science major CHEM class.
Horrible teacher. Some material on tests isn't the same material taught in the lectures, book, or homework. Most people failed all 3 tests. Online exams are completely autograded, including fill-in-blank. No explanation for how much detail should be on fill-in-blank answers and doesn't go back to check if points could be given back. Don't take her.
Hardest class I've taken so far. Not well organized, assignment dates/expectations changed constantly, and exams didn't have what we learned in the (outsourced) online lectures or book. I suspect that some of her answers on exams are wrong; she even said I did the process correctly and "didn't know" why I got them wrong but didn't redo them to see.
she's a terrible teacher. she only calculated our overall course grade twice before finals. the final was okay but most people failed the other 3 exams. there were constant grading mistakes on other assignments. her feedback isn't helpful and can only be seen in a meeting. she had TAs but the one who had office hours didn't even show up to them.
Class was awful, she made you feel stupid if you asked questions, everyone failed all of her exams, gave no real extra help, I would get a different professor, not worth it for a beginner chem class.
Please do not take her. I already have a hard time with chemistry and she has made it so much worse. She gets mad when you ask questions and she will literally say I dont undertstand how you dont know this. Her tests are hard and she is not a good professor. Probably one of the worst teachers Ive ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Dr. Ramoutar makes you work for it. She doesn't hand out 100's, you earn them. If she sees you trying, she will put in the same effort. Tests are hard, go to office hours 24-7 & you'll do ok. If you can't devote time to her class don't take her. She's an amazing person & she loves her students. She always answers her emails. Would take her again.
Very hard material and she teaches like you should already know some chemistry. I took this class and it was the first class I have ever had in chemistry and she did not explain anything. If you want to pass you have to learn it on your own. Nice person but cannot teach beginner chemistry.
She was an AWFUL professor. If you are a freshman and you are out into this class, DROP IT!!!! You will fail this class if you do not put all of your dedication into this class. She never answers any questions and her lectures are very confusing.
There wasn't much homework and it was easy to get an A because you have unlimited chances to get the answer right and it gives you feedback on what you did wrong. The pre-labs were super quick just 5 questions each and didn't take much time at all. Class is not mandatory but if you skip a lot you will fall behind. Tests covered all material learned
This was a very challenging class for me and everyone failed almost every exam which should say a lot. She makes her exams and they are nothing like anything she teaches us or practice problems they are 100 times harder. She was a great person and I enjoyed her class and it is not impossible to pass but you have to put your all into this class.
Many people did not like this class because you did have to go home and study and put your own time into it. The lectures are fast but she is always available for office hours or even by email. She was funny and caring and she can tell when you are trying she was a great person just a hard teacher.
She NEVER recorded a lecture. I was online for this course and never received a lecture from her. She only posted youtube videos to help us and gave NO feedback on tests.
The way this class is structured and taught made it rather unenjoyable. I did 5+ hours of hw weekly, and gave up watching lectures because youtube explained things better. If you are willing to take as long as it takes to figure things out, you'll do great, but if you want to slack, this class will royally suck for you.
Took forever to grade things, then wouldn't put them in the grade book. was extremely mean and nobody was comfortable asking questions. she taught out of order of what she posted and often messed up problems while teaching.
I took Dr.Ramoutar for my chem 2 lab class. She was a very "cool" professor and really cared about her students doing well. She makes sure you understand the criteria, and doesn't just give you the answer. She is great at explaining things and is very caring once you get to know her. Overall great professor.
Dr. Ramoutar is a good professor. You can tell she wants you to do your best, but during class itself, she definitely has her favorites. Labs are pretty fun, but her tests were a lot harder than the things we practiced in class or learned. Would recommend her if you really like chemistry, but if you don't care for it I would go with someone else.
Class moves really fast as we have so much to learn and some lessons were rushed. MUST study and go to classes every single day as you will miss a lot. For me, attending class and understanding the material felt like a reward. Thought I was gonna fail and stuck with it and ended up not
I personally loved Ramoutar, she gives great examples in class and lectures and is willing to explain things to you if needed. She is a tough grader but she gives everything you need in lecture, as long as you attend lecture everyday and pay attention her class will be easy. Her achieve homework helps a lot as well, I highly suggest doing the hw.
She is horrible at explaining material. Student Instructor was much better at explaining things. The tests and homework are really hard. No makeup work. Fast-paced. Does not care about students.
Attendance was not mandatory, but missing this class was not an option. She moves so fast and if you missed a single day you were already behind almost an entire week.
This professor genuinely cares for each and everyone of her students. You have to come prepared to learn in her class and ask questions. The ones who write bad reviews normally either skip class, or do not take the time to go to her office hours. She's very chill and funny. DO PRACTICE QUESTIONS, GO TO OFFICE HOURS, YOU'LL DO GREAT!!!!!
Dr. Ramoutar does teach at a fast pace . Be prepared to take notes at a fast pace . For exams make sure you know all formulas ! She an extra hard grader when it comes to exams . And Exams are weighed heavy and count towards your grade .
Some people on here may disagree, but I did everything I could (office hours, studied everything we covered, never skipped class), and I struggled the entire semester. Her teaching style works for some people, but she is not good at explaining and going in depth about different subjects. I would not advise to take her especially as a freshman.
I would never take her again. Her lectures were very hard to follow and you should study all of her notes and still know nothing on the test. Everyone in my class would fail the test miserably. The homework were hard and not helpful. Only thing easy in this class were the labs even though they were super long.
If you skip class it will be very difficult to pass the tests. She doesn't drop grades or provide extra credit so make the most of your homework and labs. You will need to study for and set aside time each week to review. She genuinely cares for her students and wants them to do well but, she does take a generous amount of time to submit grades.
She's always willing to help you understand the material. Attendance isn't required, but if you miss lectures, you will be lost, she goes through at least 40+ slides a day. Her tests were tough however, if you study HARD it is possible to pass. Homework is online and is average of 40 questions; do not wait to start. Labs were fun and not too hard
Technically, attendance isn't mandatory, however if you miss a lecture you will be behind, because she covers 40+ slides each lecture. Each lab is 2-3 hours long & not easy. Her tests are extremely difficult and sometimes studying ALL the material doesn't help. Would not recommend taking her, ESPECIALLY as a freshman- A freshman
Professor Ramoutar's class is challenging but rewarding. Attend lectures, study hard, and utilize resources like unstuck study to excel. Exams are tough, but with dedication, you can earn a strong grade.
To say this class was hard would be understatement of the semester. It doesn't matter how hard you work, it will never pay off for this class. You could write the textbook yourself and still fail. Read all the texts, do all the hw, do all the worksheets, and it still doesn't matter. She's ridiculously tough. Avoid it if you can, especially online.
Her test are difficult but if you go to her office hours she is really helpful. One tip she gave me when studying was to look at the ebook. It helps because it gives you practice problems and explains all the topics if you did not fully understand them in class. There is also a YouTube channel that works through most of the problems in the book.
Dr. Ramoutar gets many bad reviews however, if you attend lectures, participate in class disscussion, go to the SI sessions, and put fourth effort you can easily earn an A in this course. She is a caring professor that likes to interact with students. Don't be scared by these reviews.
Dr. Ramoutar's rating scared me at first, but she's not as bad as others make her seem. You need to show up in order to pass the class. Dr. Ramoutar genuinely is very understanding and is available at her office hours to help. The class is lecture heavy, so don't miss class!! Hard course, but it goes well if you put in the effort and actually study
She is very hard to understand, she has even stated " think about what you just asked me" and laughed when asked a question. She seems sweet outside of class, but her class is not easy and be prepared to take lots of notes!!! She also moves very fast in lecture without showing you what she is actually writing but does not allow photos to be taken.
This class sucks. We're 2 MONTHS behind on material. I hope we don't get tested over all of Chem 1nbecause we haven't done half of the material we need. How am I going to be up to par for Chemistry 2 if I haven't done but half of chem 1??? You can do problems, go to SI, do the hw, and still fail. She laughs at questions that she thinks are dumb. 😭
if you love yourself don't take this class
The ratings worried me at first, but the class has been clear and manageable. Attendance isn't required, but lectures cover most test material, so go if you can. Do practice problems from the textbook or SI sessions. Stay on top of HW, read the book, and practice; plus there are bonus questions on every test, so you can get a lot of points back.
I did not enjoy this class, we are 2 months behind on lecture material and the final is in 2 days. Professor only reads straight off of the PowerPoint and doesn't explain the material very well. I took Honors and AP Chemistry in high school and finished with A's, but it did not help me with this class at all. Attendance not required. DO NOT REC.
She made me cry multiple times during her office hours. She offers SI tutoring, but her exam has nothing to do with what you learn in there. No matter how hard you study, if you didn't pay attention in your high school chemistry class, you are screwed.
This was my first science class and college, and she made it really hard. I studied every night and still failed. Her lectures were one thing, and her tests asked completely different things. The SI sessions don't help; it's just reviewing her slides from class. She makes her class way more difficult than it needs to be. I would not recommend.
