i never missed one class n i did all his work n he still gave me a d you have to go or it will effect your grade i hated this calss
Very difficult to understand him. He was not helpful at all. His mid-term and final were difficult. He is tough on grading. Worst teacher I have ever had!
You can't understand him i ended up dropping he didnt stay on topic and made no sense his accent is a killer.
Worst teacher @ SBVC. It is difficult to understand him and he does go off topic a lot. His test and quizes are all trick questions. Puposely design for failure. If you want an F for sure on your transcript then take this guy.
i feel bad to drop him but i dont understand him, and i have ADD so just makes it that much harder..
Worst teacher at valley college! hard to understand, lectures are unclear. He goes off topic all the time! Rarely pauses during lectures, he talks none stop... He's old school, no gum or drinks in class!
He?s very easy his test focus primarily on his lectures yes he is a little hard to understand but grow up dam it this is America people of high education come in all shapes and sizes and racial background. He knows a lot he specializes in this field and he basically gives you all the answers on the tests with his study guides and again his lectures
He's very old school, his teaching style is straight lecture and exam and quiz questions are based off of it. His accent and soft spoken voice make it a little difficult to understand him, but not too bad. Overall I found his class to be fairly easy, as long as you consistently take notes. He genuinely has a passion for what he teaches.
This was the second course I have taken him he is very easy dont even need the book just take notes and you will get an A
Hard to understand and don't recommended him at all.
He is hard to understand, so you will need the book to do your own studying,he gives answers and study guide prior to testing and he wants the answers worded the way he words them not by the textbook..Attendance is a must
The student is required to read certain chapters before the class, which are listed on his course syllabus. Pay attention to his lectures and study guides! He re-enforces certain terms that are not located in the textbook, but will appear on the test! Dr. Jakpor strongly encourages discussion; students who participate often-earn extra credit.
can be hard to understand at times but if you put in the effort it pays off. attendence is a must since he goes over things not in the textbooks but included in exams.
Okay, he can be boring & hard to understand. But he is EASY! He gives out study guides for all his exams, do it, study it, YOU'LL PASS! He also offers study groups before the tests, & if he sees you put the effort he will really appreciate that. He gets really excited into his lectures, he loves to talk. Just pretend your listening & take notes.
Boring class but easy. He goes over study guides before exams. Can be a little hard to understand him at times because he has an accent and talks low. Attendance is important cuz he'll talk about things that will be in exams. Read the books and take notes they help you understand him.
Great professor! If you are entering a field, like nursing where you will utilize tons of critical thinking, then this teacher is perfect for you. His exams make you think so much and I personally love that. He cares about his students and puts you using your brain and passing his priority.
This teacher is seriously one of the BEST! He's EXTREMELY helpful and goes through the study guides with you. And there's extra crdit on every exam! He's speech is not as difficult to understand as people make it seem. There's no way to fail this class as long as you study, take notes, and ask questions if you need help. Definitely take him! :)
Took his class during the summer. You must show up every day take good notes. His test and study guides are worded funny but if you dont understand it just ask and he will help you. If you study the study guides you will do fine. Got an A in his class. No paper to write just 2 test 1 current events quiz and the final for his summer session.
Take good notes. Sit in the front of the class and you will hear him just fine. The answers to his quizzes and tests are from his lectures. He gives study guides before every test/quiz and reviews them. He is A GREAT professor! I am taking him again for another class! Highly recommend!!
It might be a little hard to understand but if you sit in the front it won't be a problem. He gives great examples or things the book doesn't say. Best teacher at valley so far. The test are just like the study guide. I would take his class again. He will give his opinion but it helps understand the topic. If you want to play it safe take his class
Three hour lectures might put you to sleep, real interesting professor if you get to know him. I value his rawness in lecturing the material to his students, no sense of bias, just teaches you the processes of government!
GREAT TEACHER!!!!
POLIT-100 class consists of 3 exams (75%), a quiz (15%), an easy essay assignment (5%), and attendance points (5%). Study guides are given for exams which are exact to all the questions on actual exams, no more no less, which the professor discusses and gives out answers to. Extra credit is offered via optional questions on exams and pop quizzes.
He was not clear on what exactly he expected from us in our forum discussions and he was unorganized.
I took him last summer and even though i did pass his class it was not really because of his notes. He made the whole class buy a book threatening if we didn't he would drop those students. After purchasing the textbook we only read two or maybe three pages. His note were all over the places and randomly stater talking about a different thing.
I like Dr. Jakpor real interesting professor once you get to know him. He teaches you the processes of government and provides Study Guides for all quizzes and exams. Always available for assistance. Text books didn't utilize much. Attendance 5% extra credit. A GENIUS that enjoy teaching students Politics. Give it a chance he'll grow on you!
For a Political teacher from Kenya to teach American politics at a college level, I respect Dr. Jakpor. his assignments are fairly easy as long as you have a good study group and much of his test are multiple choice. if you read and study some what. you well pass his class
Professor really knows government on various levels, good guy!
An amazing Professor all around. He knows the subject like the back of his hand, and his class, while interesting, could not be easier to pass as long as you study.
Professor Jakpor is an awesome politics teacher, the man knows what he's talking about. Lectures do get boring but he does his best to make them interesting as possible by cracking a few jokes about the material. Tests are pretty easy, he gives you study guides and the tests follow the guides directly. As long as you study, easy A.
Prof Jakpor is a great teacher he is upfront about what he expects from his students. He has an accent, but its not as bad as people complain about, I sat in the very back and understood everything he was saying.
I took Jakpor for Polit100 during a 5 week summer course and he's a fair professor. He has a thick accent, but is extremely clear on what he wants and gives study guides for every test. The study guides are the exact same thing as the test. Pay attention to the thing he writes on the board during lectures. His lectures are long but he can be funny.
Dr. Jakpor gives a clear outline of what needs to be done to do well in his class. He gives a unbiased presentation of the material and I enjoyed all of his lectures. He gives study guides for his tests and only tests what is on the study guide. He gives ample time in class to study with other students and also will review every question if needed.
I attended Dr. Jakpor's class in a summer course so attendance was very important. He required 2 books but he gives a study guide for every exam and doesn't test on anything outside of the study guide also everything on the study guide is addressed during the lectures. I found not doing the reading was not going to cause me to fail.
A boring class. He has a strong accent and talks low so it was hard to hear. There are three multiple choice tests. Some extra credit essay questions. They were based on the study guide and his lectures. You go over the study guide in class with your classmates. Show up everyday and you get extra credit as well. Pay attention in lecture!!
Mr. Jakpor is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and it definitely shows. His lectures are however, long and boring. I would recommend taking his class only because he gives you every question on the test in the study guides and he gives class time to complete the study guides.
He gives you exam cheat sheets that you must answer, he lets you get into groups in class to answer them, and he still helps you answer the ones you have problems on, as long as you study the cheat sheets you'll pass the tests. I took his 8 week class. besides those cheat sheets we didn't do any homework. He's nice and always answers questions
This class requires effort and lots of studying. He gives a study guide for every test. Each point counts as 1% of your grade and there is a total of 100 points. Be sure to study very hard. His lectures are boring. Make sure to attend class everyday for extra credit. The test format is hard; you must memorize a lot of questions. Study and get an A
You can easily pass the class if you take good notes, show up, and actually study. Quiz's/tests are not that difficult. He is a really good professor, his accent maybe kinda hard to understand sometimes.
Dr. Jakpor is a respected professor. His class can be boring at times, but his lectures are very helpful. He provides study guides which are an amazing help to the tests, do the study guide and you'll definitely pass the test. He lets you work with classmates on the study guides. Easy A.
He's a great Professor. I took his summer class. Be prepared to take LOTS of notes. Every answer for quizzes and tests will be covered in class and if you write everything down you should be fine. I learned so much about history and the way politics work from his class. Two other students I know took him for this class and loved him as well.
At first he comes off as though he is fair in his grading, he is not. Do not take it for granted that you have a good grade. Stay on him if your going to take him, and he is old school all the way. He is not all exactly terrible, but if you can avoid him, take someone else.
couldn't hear a thing he'd say. literally kept the whole class until the last minute (3hr 30 min class). isn't lenient. read read read ....
I took Dr. Jakpor's Political Science 100 class over the summer, and let me tell you.. he's old school. His method of choice for his lectures is the white board. If you don't know how to take good notes, then you best learn now. His class wasn't all that hard, but do make sure you attend class and pay close attention to his lectures.
If you want to start college on the right path then you should take professor course. He is reasonable and truly cares for your success in understanding of American politics. its not easy but not hard and at the end of the day you got to put in the work. If you do that you will definitely get an A. that being said 11/10 , u gotta take this course
Is a good professor, but very difficult to understand. His lectures are somewhat boring and they make time in the class go extra slow. Homework is to read out of the textbooks. If you like to read, you can pass his class. If you don't want to read, don't take his class.
Jakpor was really unclear on assignments. Supposed to be a hybrid class but only met x2. On the last day he made us give a presentation, only 1/7 students were ready for. But the rest of us winged it. Assigns 12 pg paper w/ footnotes even though we only had 1 source but he was clear on the grading 50% final, 20% discussions, & 30% club involvement.
very knowledgeable & clear professor, assigned were weekly post (1-2 paragraphs) & extra credit (both were not difficult but he's big on grammar!). we had 3 exams & a quiz. study guides were given & books were required but were 60% helpful. take this class with a friend & study, study, study! (my 1st & last online class- summer'19)
unclear with directions and what he expects from each student canvas is very unorganized and almost impossible to find the assignments. Have had assignments locked to me while I watch the due date pass and watch my grade fall. IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of this person, sent multiple texts, emails, canvas, and for 2 months I didn't get one reply.
Read the lecture, all the info you need is in the lectures. He gives you a study guide for all of his test so if you dont pass them then thats on you for not taking the time to work on the study guide. 1 or 2 of his assignments were not clear but for the most part his weekly discussion is the same. Do your work, read the lectures and pass!
bought the books, took heavy notes for each chapter assigned. study guide for each test but test questions are written to where they just cause confusion. I took so many notes for each question on the study guide I was 100% sure I was gunna Ace it, only to receive a C!!! SAVE yourself the trouble & take another teacher!
Professor was terrible. I sent out several emails and he would never reply. He also dismissed all the work Ive done in this class just to fail me. Do not recommend.
I failed due to him starting the class 2 weeks late and blaming it on an error with canvas so he told me to get ahold of tech support. 2 hours later they tell me its because he failed to publish anything. 5 emails and 3 days later he finally sends a message letting students know that it is still a canvas error. Constant emails and calls and noreply
We did a lot of discussions that have not been graded. Weird set up for online class but all together still very easy and self explanatory
One of the absolute worst professors I have ever had. A ridiculous grader and the tests are so hard. Who bases tests exclusively on, which one is false or which one is true. He was confusing and hard to to contact. Do not take this professor unless you want to pull your hair out.
Terrible. He never grades discussions and he doesn't respond. At the end you have a group paper that is very vague and he gives little to no instruction. I did all my study guides and took notes, yet the tests were hard and had little to nothing to do with the study guides. Save yourself the effort and stress, and take another professor.
Hes the worst professor I have ever had the misfortune of taking. I all but failed his class because despite doing all the study guides. the tests are all true or false questions. His grading is ridiculous and at the end, we have a group paper with VERY vague instructions and he doesnt answer questions. Just awful. Take another professor.
No idea what he's like in person, but this online course was pretty brutal. Professor makes himself inaccessible, some lecture notes weren't posted, and assignment instructions are vague. Minimal involvement from professor yet difficult material. Some test material is not included in the notes or textbook. Better take this course online elsewhere.
the professor is not very active in class and he doesnt respond to any emails. all of the discussions he makes you do are not even graded at the end and he gives very little instruction on all of his assignments. i took this class online and that was a huge mistake.
Never get back to you when emailed. Jakpor could never download correctly to Canvas. I was a straight A student till taking this guys class. His questions were always got cha. He thinks he is bigger than the game. He is bored with his job, burnt out.
Took his online class twice. Bombards you with assigned lecture readings and his study guides are little to no help when it comes to his tests. Take another class! He does not seem motivated to help his students.
This guy is worthless, unaccessible, never gets back to you, is completely burnt out, just collecting a paycheck. This guy should be fired, he's not there to help students learn, he is "bigger than the game, in his mind."
The class was extremely confusing. Our final group project was never explained in the syllabus. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS You will waste your time because you will have to take the course again. He does not explain the assignments and does not respond in a timely manner
This guy is the worst Professor I've had at SBVC, and I've had 20 others. He is useless, doesn't get back to you, and has an assistant take care of everything. He is worn out and is just collecting a paycheck. Jakpor is not out to help the student by no means.
This professor doesn't seem to care about his students at all. Typically, he has his assistant take care of everything. He is such a tough grader for no reason, like sir this is not Harvard! Don't take him, take a different professor. He also doesn't assign the discussions you have to search for them under the discussion tab.
Dr. Jakpor was a great teacher! He was always very helpful, and explained classwork well. As for the tests, they were not hard, just make sure that you study. 10/10 would take his class again.
Seems like a cool teach until you enter his class. His grading is very difficult and his lectures are long. Sometimes you may get lost in what he's talking about, especially if you have a class that doesn't ask questions. create a study group! The exams are hard!!
Gentle reminder pick a different class.
Does not respond back to questions. All over the place. I was a straight A student until his class. Does not care about the student.
Only tests are taken in this class. All professor's notes were provided along with a study guide for each exam. The study guides clearly demonstrated what would be on the tests. Strict deadlines on taking tests. Not too hard though since they're completely based on the study guides.
I didn't feel like the teacher cared how I did at all. Never helped me when I asked questions. Told me that I have to research and convince myself I have the right answer. Did that and still got the answers wrong according to all the Quiz. Would never take with this instructor again.
I knew from the start I wasn't going to do so well in his class. very boring and made me feel dumb when I would ask for help. The only good thing is, is that he only gives out exams and half the time would give us a study guide that had all the answers to it. but overall did not like this professor
Prof. did not meet expectations though introduction was impressive.Grading system sets students up for failure focus solely on exams, scavenger hunt for material, small groups,w/ excessive emphasis on not cheating. Lack of Zoom lectures/office hours creates a disconnected learning experience with delayed responses.
Dont pay attention to the good reviews. They had to have been planted.
Don't get the other ratings scare you, he's actually not a bad professor. I had to take his class since it was the only option and was a bit nervous due to the other reviews but his class was very doable. The workload is like any other online class, you read then take a quiz on the material. I will say he responds to emails a bit late but its okay.
Don't listen to the good reviews. Don't take any of his classes. As you can see most are accurate. Bad.
Drop out as soon as possible and find another class. This Professor does not care about his student's success.
Don't take any classes with this professor if you care about your GPA, because he doesn't.
I do not recommend.Only offered 7points of extra credit at the end of the class as a test which we did with our final of 30 questions a lot to study in a little time. Study guides were long and tedious. Grading is based on exams. You only get very little points for attendance and homework
i was scared and was gonna drop the class but thank god i didnt. His job is to teach and its your job to put effort in learning. Theres a lot of reading, but its not boring like textbook, its good book and simplifies everything you need to know. 4 test, very simple. STUDY GUIDE!!! is the key to pass. Some just lazy to learn & thats y ratings r low
Very very VERY EASY class!!!! I took hybrid course and it was literallly 4 test..which he gives you a study guide...theres no reason you should be failing this class!!!! He is older and tired but still passinate and knowledgeable!!! great doctor (he has his phd)!! Easiest class i ever taken... dont let the rating fool you!!! Easy A!!!!
This professor is terrible. He gives outdated tests instead of taking the time to update them like he should. Then he accuses students of cheating because he gives outdated tests. If you have a choice DO NOT TAKE THIS PERSON'S CLASS. He is very disrespectful and lazy. This school should do better with its teachers. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER!!!!
This was the easiest class I have taken. There were only 5 tests online, even thought it was a in person class if you wanna learn something, don't take it but if you are on,y taking it for credits just take it its an easy A.
The workload is easy. The class is graded on a few online tests and quizzes. However, his lectures are long and boring, AND attendance is mandatory. If you actually want to learn something, pick another class.
Okay class and professor he doesn't teach ,but he gives study guides to complete. There's only 5 assignments, First Exam, Midterm, Final and 3 Quiz's. Make sure you study for your Final because it's on a locked browser. Also, Discussion Posts are optional.
His class is just lectures, he doesn't do homework, just a few tests and quizzes. I think there are only six in the whole semester, but they all have an honor lock. He does have a thick accent and wears a mask, so sometimes it's hard to understand him
RUN AND DO NOT LOOK BACK lol jk but really I wouldn't recommend this class, it's graded based off only 6-7 quizzes and ALL require the honor lock extension where it watches u while you take the test. AND the book is 85$ BUT He's the one who made it and it's MANDATORY feels like a slight money grab tbh, and the book is not avail for free anywhere
I did the mistake of enrolling in this class without looking at RMP first. Don't take this class. Every test is through Honorlock. Takes long to respond to emails. Answers on the test are outdated. His study guide made me lose my mind. If you have to take this class, PLEASE take advantage of his office hours and practice your coping skills.
Maybe it's because I took AP Gov in HS, didn't do the test, but the material is very basic and easy to learn, HOWEVER. He is a VERY hard grader. I was chilling with him, like I said maybe because of previous knowledge on the subject, but his class could be much better if he did not grade on 6 total assignments and make us use honorlock. Real shame.
This Professor doesn't list assignments so that they would appear in the To-Do List, so it's easy to miss an assignment.
