goes way too fast
very knowledgeable, but really boring. classes aren't interesting. quizzes aren't that hard, but exams are pretty tough. my suggestion is to write the extra credit papers - saved my grade
he makes an effort to keep students informed about quiz/test dates; there are no surprises. His tests are difficult but not too bad if you study. He isn't exciting but he stays on task.
He uses the computer alot, but that makes following along easier and his course notes supplement helps alot. He's not the friendliest man but he is a good teacher.
Yes, the classes are very boring, but he is very organized and gives no suprises throughout the course. As long as you study for quizzes, the tests aren't too bad. He also gives good chances for extra credit. It's not hard to make an A. I
very clear about what is going to be on tests
Garcia is a pretty clear teacher. Pay attention and watch the tutorials! Garcia is dedicated to teaching and getting your grades back asap!
lots of opportunity for extra credit
a very BORING class. Gives a lot of quizes but most of the questions are given to you online or are from the class notes. He takes attendence at random times and gives extra credit possibilities on tests. His tests are fair and questions are from material he has gone over in class.
soo BORING...take the practice quizzes online and DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT! Tests were challenging, just make sure to study.
Do extra credit and try the online quizes. I did a lot better than I should have. Tests are hard and class is boring. I never paid attention and hardly studied, did extra, and pulled a B.
Really fast turn-around with grades. Just memorize the notes and quizzes.
very boring class, he has no personality. he makes up for it however by being very organized. his notes are GREAT, so you never need the book. gives quizes and tests that come straight from notes and extra credit is on tests. the extra credit tutorials are not worth the time in my opinion, just memorize notes and you'll make an A.

Very organized and seems to care that his students do well.
he talks about everything that you need to know and he has these tutorial CDs that help SO much. Also if you answere questions on the test about the CDs you can get up to 5 points on your AVERAGE. it is work but he gives you everythink u need.
He teaches what he wants, not what we need to know.
Do not take this class!! Although he does give alot of extra credit, he thinks that Biology is the only class you're taking and expects everyone to read, do tutorials, practice quizzes and test, and he takes attendance EVERY CLASS!! oh, and this is THE most boring class ever!!
he is very boring and you have a quiz once a week! he expects so much work to be done for his class and it is too hard to get it all done. he does give extra credit which is helpful but you have to put a lot of time into the tutorials to even get the extra credit
He is a little boring but his tests are easy compared to other bio teachers. Takes atendence every single day but it doesnt count towards your grade
This professor is horrible! His inclass quizzes and tests make it almost impossible to pass even if you make an A in your lab! He likes to lecture the entire class period, yet never fully explains anything. Also the tutorial program he requires you to buy is a bust!!!! It's not helpful at all!!!! DO NOT TAKE HIS BIO 103 CLASS!!!!!!
Tests are easy. There is a lot of supplemental materials and extra credit chances. Attendance is taken but not counted in your grade. Nice guy although a little boring.
This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I thought the test were hard. He does give weekly quizes, which make you study. He gives extra credit, and is willing to help with anything. Though he was hard, I would recommend him.
his tests are not that hard, and if you go to his help sessions he pretty much gives you the test
He is very boring and monotone. His quizzes are every week and are very hard. His test are pretty hard too. He gives you the notes but they are really random. I didn't learn much and wouldn't recommend him
Lectures do not exactly correspond to the tests...never fully explains anything. Tests are very hard and you MUST always read ahead to be on top of things...quizzes every week...LOTS of work. The class would be TORTURE if you didn't like biology in the first place.
EXTREMELY BORING...if you can suffer through class without zoning out in the first 5 minutes, you might be ok, get anybody else if you possibly can!!
This guy is awful!! I had Dr. Smith last semester who was really hard, but at least he could teach. I wonder if an administrator has ever sat in on one of his classes - if so, he is lucky to still have a job. BORING, Makes you buy the notes (tip - they are exactly the same as the outlines on the book website which are free!) and too hard!
Um yeah Garcia pretty much rocks my socks off! And his notes are awesome! I've gotten As on every test just by reading over them - so much better than going through that huge textbook.
well-quizzes were hard, so were the tests, and his lectures were extremely boring. Unless you are fabulous at biology I would say take the other BIO 103 teachers!
you will have to do the work but he wants you to do well and gives you every chance to. class is a little slow but it is biol. i don't think that because you have to work at a class means that the teacher is bad. take him if you want a good teacher that is fair.
lectures are nothing like the exams--he asks too specfic questions and expects too much. SOO BORING!
this guy is probably the worst teacer i have ever had in my life. he seriously make me want to jump over the podium every day and strangle every last bit of air out of his lungs, and then i still wouldnt be satisfied. GET OUT OF HIS CLASS
Lets see lecture is awfully boring and he talks so mono tone that you have a hard time staying awake. He is fair though and you will earn the grade that you work for. His quizzes really help you prepare for the test they are pretty hard but if you read your book and go to class you will do well. Hope this is helpful.
Garcia was a hard professor but very fair. This is not a class that you can just sleep through and expect an A, you have to work for it, but he is very helpful and wants you to do well in the class. I would recommend him.
Very helpful and seems to want every student to do well in his class. His lectures are boring but doable and the quizzes really help. You do have to work some, but as long as you don't sleep through lecture and read over the material, you'll be fine. He's not as bad as everyone says he is.
his lectures are very boring and you will fall asleep, but if you do the reading and prepare for the test and quizzes using the resources that he gives you its not that hard of a class. I had a 54 in the class after the first test and got my grade up to a b-
I see a lot of whining on here about him. His lectures are not as exciting as sitting at home watching TV but the bottom line is this guy wants you to succeed, offers as much help and resources as a prof could and forces you to keep up by giving weekly quizzes, which give you an opportunity to bring up low exam scores and his lectures are on BB.
Dr. Garcia is a fantastic professor. Yes the lectures can get boring, but honestly who can make lectures on biology exciting??? I would highly recommend him. It is very obvious he is very knowledgable of the material he is teaching. He truly wants every student to excel, and he is willing to help you out! Excellent!
He is very organized but lectures are boring! I sat in the front row and still fell alseep. Most of the quiz questions are taken straight from the questions in the back of his "class notes book" or from his online practice quizzes. Tests are not that difficult, he gives out a study guide that tells you exactly what to study for the test.
he was decent. gave regular quizzes that you could do well on. boring lecture, but very helpful. he gave you the opportunity to do well on tests. no cummulative final
Garcia gives quizes every week that can help your grade if you take advntage of them. His tests aren't as difficult as they seem they will be at first. READ YOUR BOOK!
Dr. Garcia was an excellent teacher; his classes may not have been the most exciting, but all of the study materials he provided really helped! (a note-taking guide w/ practice questions, online practice quizzes and tests, and online lecture materials) Also, he is very quick to respond to e-mails, and very willing to help everyone.
Dr. Garcia is an amazing professor who truly wants every student to excel. He is knowledgeable of the subject area and gives out excellent study materials. Compared to my high school biology teacher his lectures are very interesting.
Good teacher. Cute man that knows his stuff.
Dr. Garcia is absolutely wonderful! He really tries hard to have everyone do well in his class. He gives so many study questions in his notes and his quizzes are always helpful. They really help you to keep up with the reading. He really tries to work with his students and wants everyone to ace it. I totaly recommend him, he's great!!!
lectures are very boring and not all that helpful since he just reads what he has in a monotone voice. willing to help you with extra credit though. tests are kinda hard. you really have to study. quizzes are moderate. its not his fault but there is just too much material covered in that class. a lot to learn in a short amount of time.
attendance is mandatory. class is hard. but he makes it as easy as possible. has study guides. lectures are boring. quizzes help for test. he is organized and goes by strict syllabus. if you have to take this class, i would take him because even tho it is hard he tries his best to make it easy.
A very good teacher. Would recommend him to any student. Have 4 exams that are not cummalitive. Lecture is not mandatory, but i would go. Sometimes he cancels classes and gives free 100 quiz grades!!! Do have to dedicate time to the class because if you don't you can fail eaisly. Only bio professor that gives quiz between tests.
Go to the help sessions for his tests! he basically reads off what the answers will be on the test. mr g. supplies you with all kinds of materials to succeed in his class--its really up to the student what grade he wants to get
Lectures are the biggest waste. Especially for an hour and 15 minutes. He just reads off an outline with no explanations. Study for quizzes and do the practice problems cause the questions are the same. Tests are difficult if you dont read the book. So read! 5 points extra credit just for coming to class-the only useful part of going. Great teacher
go to class everyday, he takes attendence. If you have 90-100% attendence and participation at the end of the semester he gives you 5 points added to your final grade. Gives quizess every week. There are 4 test, not to easy not to hard but I learned that you had to read the book also. Go to help sessions he reads straight from the test.
Going to class is pointless I did chemistry homework during it, but he checks attendance and gives extra credit for good attendance. He also gives a quiz every week so you can't miss too much. The tests aren't hard cause he emails everything that is on the quiz. I didn't go the last month and a half and I pulled a C.
Dr. Garcia is a great professor sometimes a little boring with the lectures but he is always willing to help. Go to class everyday and go to the help sessions every Sunday before the test he reads straight from the test so just study what he mentions in the help session. He gives 5 points on your overall grade if you come to class everyday. I got a
He is very difficult. You can pull all nighters and study for days and still just make a passing grade. Smith is hard too, but you at least could get an okay grade. I recommend Ruppert.
He is very difficult. You can pull all nighters and study for days and still just make a passing grade. Smith is hard too, but you at least could get an okay grade. I recommend Ruppert.
He's a pretty good professor, very knowledgeable. Except he is very soft spoken, so it's hard to pay attention to the power points, but attendance is mandatory. If you go to the review sessions he goes over what will be on the exams, which are not as hard as the weekly quizzes (which are very difficult). I got an A. But it was a lot of work.
I had him for Bio 103 and he was amazing. I would defintly take him for 104. Gives quizzes each week on 2 chapters. They help you prepare for you test. You can at least get a B if you study and do your objectives. I would recommend him over the others.
He was very hard, but so hot.
You can go without the textbook and just use the Notes he requires you to buy. The questions in the back of it and the questions on the weekly quizzes help a lot in preparing for the quiz. A lot of times he takes those and makes variations for the test. Plus, you get 5 points added to your grade for attending. Difficult, but he's the best teacher.
He's very soft spoken... so make sure you sit in the front, it makes it a lot easier to pay attention. Definitely go to the review sessions though... he basically reads from the test.
Overall pretty easy. He gives you a book of notes that he teaches right out of. You get 5 points added to your final grade just for attending his class. And go to the review sessions because he reads straight from the tests! He's really quiet so sit in the front!
a very good teacher for biology. there are four tests and none of them are very hard if you read the book and do the work. you have to be willing to do the work though in order to do well in his class.
Awful teacher, needs to be fired.Reads from a PowerPoint the entire class. Recommends that students buy HIS course notes when they are just a shorter version of the textbook's notes. Tests are easier than weekly quizzes, but quizzes DO NOT help for the exam or your grade. Best teacher for biology is Dr. Denny Smith. You will actually learn something
TAKE Garcia, he's not that interesting in class but if you pay attention it really helps for the quizzes/tests. He works with you and the class with your grades. Normally your quiz average replaces your lowest exam. Also volunteer to pass out papers for EXTRA CREDIT & GOOD attendance really helps your grade. His quizzes in his notes foreshadow quiz
Take this teacher. He is one of the best biology teachers in the department. YES, he is boring, but he is a very nice helpful guy. I had a C in the beginning of the semester and ended up with an A! Pass out the papers and you'll get an additional point along with the 5 points extra credit. GO to the review sessions, he reads off the exam.
Great professor. His quizzes and tests still require quite a bit of studying, but pretty straightforward. He's not there to trick you. Go to class everyday and pass out papers because it's extra credit added on to your average. Somewhat awkward guy to talk to, but he does care about his students a lot. Go to his review sessions!
Dr. Garcia is extremely fair and he offers extra credit for attendance and passing out papers. Also, his review sessions help out a lot. Actually reading the book is important for a good grade on his tests.
Garcia is extremely fair. As long as you go to the review sessions, read the book, and look over the online modules before the test you should have no problem making an A. Also gives up to 6 total points on your final grade for attendance and participation. Great teacher
Very helpful, easy to get a good grade if you do your work, not overly taxing. Lot of extra credit points on your final grade if you pass out papers.
Dr. Garcia was extremely helpful! Up to 6 extra credit points were given out depending on attendance, participation, and whether or not papers were passed out. Overall, he genuinely cares about his students, and although the class can be difficult, he gives out plenty of studying tips as well as practice tests.
Love this guy! Hard to pay attention though and he doesn't really try. Can be catty if you leave early, have your laptop out, etc. but if you go to every class and help session and use your iClickers, 5 extra credit pts are added to your final grade. Best bio professor, actually understand the material now.
He is a nice guy and is very well organized. It is hard to pay attention because its a huge lecture class but he knows what he is talking about. There is a quiz a week which do require studying and the tests also require significant time to prepare for. However you know the material by the end and he gives lots of extra credit for attendance.
So incredibly helpful! He gives extra credit for attendance and participation, and also drops a few bad grades. If you are struggling, be sure to attend class and participate, as well as contacting him to show your concerns about your grades. I made an F my first semester with another biology teacher, but it looks like I'm headed to a B this time!
TAKE HIM!! Seriously, I hate biology &am not great at it but got an A in the course because of how awesome Garcia is! So nice, cares about his students, will answer any questions, has quizzes each week to help you,&gives you 6pts on your final grade if you come to class and hand out papers! You have to study but he is the best bio prof at Clemson
Dr. Garcia is the best teacher I have ever had. Biology suddenly became interesting because of him. He is willing to reward you depending on the work you put into his class. Take him for sure!!!
Take Garcia for Biology! He gives you a ton of ways to earn extra credit and really wants you to come out of the class with a good grade. He is definitely much better than most of all the other biology teachers I've heard of. Definitely take him!
Dr. Garcia is awesome!!! Class is pretty boring but it is so easy and he gives you a TON of extra credit which is really helpful!
While attendance is not mandatory, he does give extra credit for coming so in a way it is mandatory. He is awesome!! He gives so much extra credit and he really provides a lot of resources for students to study and learn the material. Take him if you can.
He's awesome! His class is definitely hard, but he realizes it and gives extra credit for coming to class and showing an effort. He always posts grades (WHOOT WHOOT) so you know how you're doing and he tells you what will be on the exam during his help sessions. Just study and you'll do great! TAKE HIM!
BIo 103 is a hard class in general but Garcia is super clear and good at making it as easy as possible to understand. He gives A TON of extra credit if you go to class. He has review sessions before each test where he tells you EXACTLY what to know which he also gives extra points for attending. If you go to those you'll do fine on the tests.
Garcia is the man!!! He is very clear in the material and offers alot of outside material to help for the in class quizzes and exams. He is somewhat humorous in class. Great teacher i got an A, of course with studying. He also give 5% extra credit at the end so an 85 is an A! Deff take Garicia!! Im taking him next semester.
Awesome teacher because he gives so much extra credit. He has a very kind heart so you should get to know him. His test are easy to understand but require a lot of studying. He gives an extra 5 pnt to your final grade if he sees you have made an effort to come to class. He also adds another extra pnt to you final grade if you hand out papers.DO IT!
Dr. Garcia is awesome!Dr. Garcia is very organized and he knows what he is talking about! I loved his class and I would highly recommend him. Make sure to study for quizzes, which are harder than the actual tests. The quizzes help prepare you though!
Dr. Garcia is the man! Class is composed of 4 tests-80%, and 12 quizzes-20%. Quizzes seemed harder than the tests, also gives extra credit.
I took Garcia for 104 in the Spring. If there's one thing I would recommend it's GO TO THE HELP SESSIONS. Seriously, he pretty much goes through the test and tells you what information you need to know which is VERY helpful since his course notes book (which you should definitely buy!) has so much information in it.
So easy!!! As long as you go to the help sessions you will be able to probably get an A. He basically gives you the test questions and thats pretty much all you have to study for it!! The lab is easy too just prepare for the quizzes for 5 minutes before. If you have to take biology, definitely take him!
