4 quizzes , 2 midterms, 14 hw, group project and final. It is very important to attend his class becaue all the stuff that he talks about in class will be on the test. hw and project are all group work. He gives some extra credit. he is helpful.
burkhard is a pretty cool teacher, the course is easy only if u pay attention to his lectures and diagrams. projects and exercises are very time consuming but that is how it goes for bus 93. you learn a great deal abd its definitely worth your money.
He's a good teacher - one of the few good ones in the MIS program. If you attend all the lectures, pay close attention in class and take notes you'll definately pass the class with no problems! His explanations, examples, hw, project are helpful!
Really good teacher. I learned a lot from him and hope to take another class with him if it's offered. Just keep up with the cases and the final project. He tells you what exactly is going to be on the final exam. See him for help and get free cookies
great teacher... has a very good way of teaching. you can learn a lot from his class. he makes it more understandable.
Best teacher here at SJSU!
he is really cool. one of the best profs i've ever had.. adds humor in his class. got an A-.. kinda time consuming if ur taking the summer class, but he's totally worth it.
Excellent teacher. Loved the class. Very interactive and entertaining class.
excellent teacher.one of my favorites! made materials easy to understand. books used are easy to read. hw/group projects are not too hard, but they do take lots of your time. start when it is given, never hesitate! quizzes, miterms, finals are cool.
excellent teacher.. the 1st class which i never skip a lecture, materials is well explained and easy to understand.. he's very helpful, provides good comments on homework... i've learned a lot from this class...
He is an excellent teacher. You will learn a lot in his class. His teachings are crystal clear, and he is very fair. This is one of the best teacher at SJSU and the best teacher in MIS.
Great teacher. 'nuff said. Highly recommended!
Best teacher in MIS dept. He's very fair. Exams can be somewhat difficult at times, but everything is clear and he tells u exactly what to study for. Can be anal and a little ****y at times but a very effective instructor. Very attainable A- or B.
the best
best teacher i ever had... his lecture is fun.. he explains concepts clearly... gives you a lot of help and feedbacks on yoru project.. he basically want every student to get an A...
he's definitely the top 5% of any business professor, or soon to be. He's a great help, won't rip you apart for questions, and doesn't digress from what's going to be on the exam. He makes the classes exciting, and never boring. He is a MUST for anyone.
By far the best teacher I've had at SJSU. He makes the class a lot more fun than it really is. Very clear lectures, midterms are not bad at all. I got A's on them and I hardly studied because he makes the material so easy to understand. Take him!
Awesome teacher....Makes all other MIS teachers look bad.
coolest teacher ever
By far one of the best instructors on campus. Quizzes & Midterms aren't difficult if you pay attention in class. Homework done on case study is compiled at the end of semester to become group project; if you do well on homework, you'll do well on project.
Awesome teacher! Keeps class fun and interesting. Lets you know what to focus on for tests and quizzes. Go to class, take good notes, study, and you will be sure to get an A.
the BEST professor in the MIS dept. his lectures are so easy and clear that you'll understand it from the beginning. his midterms/final are easy if you pay attention in class. took the class on a saturday and i actually stayed awake. highly recommended
Definitely one of the best professors. Takes his course seriously and wants students to learn the hands-on content of the material. His lectures are never boring and he is extremely helpful when you need it.
G.O.A.T. = GREATEST OF ALL TIME (LITERALLY!) IN THE BUSINESS SCHOOL! TOOK HIM FOR BUS 93 AND WILL SURE TAKE HIM FOR 119B. MADE EVERYTHING EASY TO LEARN AND ABOSORB...
SPR 04/ He prepares his students for the real world, and I can relate, because I am a working professional. Absolutely the greatest instructor I have ever had. Highly recommend him!!!! Enthusiastic! Energtic! Interactivity! Characteristics-Great Teacher
This is the best teacher on campus. He's very intuned with his student's needs and knows we've got a lot on our plate already so he doesnt try to make your life more difficult. Take him...you won't regret it. One midterm, a few quizes..hardly any homework. Great teacher!
Rich is GREAT! He really wants the best for his students and encourages us to get out there and do something. He's very approachable, and teaches with a lot of energy! He also knows Snoop... how funny is that! One of the best teachers I've had!
This teacher is awesome!!! He's funny, easy and very nice. You'll get an A+++ easily, you will have 1 midterm and a group project. He's always willing to help students is they are having trouble in class. Plus, He always have cookies and candies in his office. Don't miss out:)
He's one of the best teacher i have this semester. He's a very cool guy(who will jam soon with snoop dog), funny and smart.I highly recommend this teacher. Too bad his already taken:)
Oh my gosh, the most easy professor in SJSU. If you take good notes and listen what he says in the class, you will do well on the exam. You don't need to read the whole book. Recommend to take him. Easy to get an A.
The best MIS teacher. He's hot, funny, understandable and smart. What else do you we need? He teaches really useful stuff you will always remember and use. He does not waste your time in a bunch of theory and useless material. Access H.W. is pretty boring, but the rest it is very usefull. He's hot!
1 midterm, 1 final, 1 project & whole bunch of article readings. class was enjoyable. he love teaching and is willing to share his exp with you. Even if you dont believe in IT related stuff, he will brainwash you into liking it. its funny da how he passed out his bus cards to most of us after final:
do u need the text book for this class?
Prof Burkhard is a great guy. He is nice and makes class fun (even doing dumb access assignments)Just make sure to study the material he tells you for the midterm and final. He is one of SJSU's best business/Mis professor's.
He's very HOT and smart
BEST !! BEST !!! BEST !!! Thats all you needto knwo about this instructor. Take him you will learn a lot.Got an A without too much effort.
Very easy and straightforward class. Don't even bother reading the textbook, he'll tell you what to study for the midterm/final. He rants a lot about how great it's to be a MIS student and how it's the best major to be doing. Ignore his propaganda about how MIS is "THE BEST MAJOR EVER", such BS.
Don't borther buying the book, it cost to much and he hardly refers to it or uses it for exams. Your grade is based on a few assignments, 1 group project, 1 midterm and 1 final. Be as clear as possible on exams and beaware he does give extra credit to special individuals who kiss butt and go to his office. He likes to talk about how great MIS is.
Excellent teacher! Maybe the best at SJSU. However, he can be a bit disorganized at times and seems to stress over it. He also exaggerates how great being an MIS major is. Nice guy and you learn a lot too. Just don't bug him when he looks stressed out.
he is the best and even for MIS. Just be sure that you have good people for projects.
The only advice is never and ever argue with him. You won't benifit from it but will be embarrased. He has strong belief on certain things, and you should be silent even you don't agree on. He lectures the boring subject in an interesting way that you easily understand. He strive to show the power of technology and the future trend. Nice Teacher!
By far the best MIS teacher. He's very enthusiastic about teaching the subject. He's very knowledgeable and very helpful. Participate in class, get a good group for the project, study for the tests... you'll get an A. It's that easy.
The BEST teacher!! Never a boring lecture. He keeps you awake even if you 've partied all night. He makes a boring subject interesting. If you attend classes, study his guides, get a good group for the project, you'll get a good grade. I would definitely take him again.
BURKHEART ROCKS!
Best freakin teacher ever. Keeps class interesting with the amount of boring material
Rich is filled with enthuiasm. Will not allow student to fail. Hard to get lower then a B in class. It's true, he'll brain wash you into liking MIS. He gives you the questions before taking the final. Overall, a great friend.
rich is the best professor @ state. He is energetic and makes class fun. The tests are nothing to worry about. Just study what he tells you to and youll be fine. Highly encourage taking him for any business class.
this guy sucked! gave me a c... after an almost perfect final! BOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
He is very easy, and helpful. Make sure you pick a right partner for his project.
This was the best class i've taken at SJSU. This teacher makes me want to change my major (but I can't). He makes the class fun and you learn alot of stuff. Come to class, do the work ,get to know him, and participate. Your guaranteed an A.
Best teacher ever, really teaches you alot, prepares you for the outside world. Nicest guy, and always willing to go the extra mile to help you out. PS: Ask him about Disneyland tips... haha!
This professor will motivate you! His HW's are very easy, just need to pay attention in class. His lectures are really fun cause he jokes around & theres LOTS of student-prof interaction. **When doing the group project, make sure u team up with those willing to work.**
Nice guy, really cares about students and subject, and understands what it is like to be a student and have a job. He is going for his Doctorate and teaching, so he knows when to cut some slack. A bit hard on the grading, but overall, very good class. Would take instructor again. Recommended.
he is a very good teacher, he is the best. I really recommend him. He is willing to help you if you have a hard time with the class, just ask him. I recommend you to go to class because is worth it, you will be prepare for the real world work. He dance salsa too!
Great guy, easy class. No need to use the book. Just go to class, take notes. Other 188 sections focus mainly on learning MS Access. We spent maybe a month on it. The rest of the time was spent on a group project that was really simple. Only 2 tests all semester. Tons of extra credit opportunities. Loves Beyonce!

Nice guy who cares about his students. Goofy. Reminds me of a clown. Big group project on a proposal for an information system. Gives you parts that you need to read out of chapter before exam. Don't need to waste time reading all of the "fluff" in the textbook. Burkhard was always 5 minutes late to class.
Great teacher and absolutely helpful. He loves everything about IS and cares about his students. Very funny in class and handles a large volume of students. You can tell he has a soft heart and I highly recommend him for a teacher! Class included 1 midterm, some hw, 1 major project that is fun, and participation. Great class and I did learn new th
One of the best professors I have ever had. I enjoy going to his lectures. Even though he's incredibly easy, I LEARN from this class. He makes things relevant to students and makes class fun. He is a good hearted person who looks after his students.
he's not hot but AWESOME teacher. Lecture is super easy to understand. Study only what he tells you on midterm/final. easy grading on Access labs. but don't interrupt him or contridict him in class - he will hate you. Super Easy and super helpful teacher. Any student is lucky to have him as a teacher.
Pretty easy teacher that required attendance. He can be nice at times, but can be cranky at times. Do not ever challenge him in class. He does play favorites so please be on his good side.
Amazing professor! One of the best I've had. Attend class on time, no HW group analysis project takes its place. Weekly assignments based on this project... all done piece by piece. VERY easy tests, final a bit tough. Tells you exactly what's on tests so be sure to study what he tells you. Cares very much for the students who really want 2 be there
Decent teacher. Make sure you attend and stay on his good side. There are group projects instead of HWs. Sometimes he is not very clear but you can go to his office hours and clarify. Very helpful if you go to his office hours and always has candy.
Nice guy, incredibly helpful. One of, if not the best MIS professor in the school.
Very enthusiastic about teaching. He is one of those teachers that really enjoy teaching and loves to get his students involved. Make sure you get into good groups since there are weekly group assignments which lead to the group project. As some as stated, he seems to play favorites so talk to him and visit him during office hours.
Class is very well fomated and explained. He will really try to make it interesting and enjoyable. Fair grading and no suprises throughout the semester. My only irritation is that he packed to much work into the last week and half. Probably the best SJSU teacher I've had.
Pay attention to his lecture!!!! I graduated and now I am working full time. I am doing exactly what he taught us in class. I didn't realize it b4, but now I know how great he is. Someday, I'll come down to SJ and visit him. He's one of the great professors at SJSU.
Burkhard is the man! If you have ADD don't worry you can understand his lectures. He make MIS as simple as watching Mister Rogers Neighborhood. The cool thing is he wants to motivate students and input a self esteem that no other teacher has the power to do... And like the other students say he does brain wash you... because its interesting
Bus110B. I feel he made the class much harder than it was. The groupwork was not hard but very confusing. He returned it with an X and nothing else, and required a visit to his office for any feedback that would actually help.He is full of himself and looks down on his students. The material itself is interesting, unfortunately the teacher was not.
He is a great teacher. But sometimes he is like what the others said, full of himself. He know a lot of stuff based on his experienced. Easy class if you attend all of his class. 1 huge project, 2 midterms, 1 final, and quizes. Gives extra credit. Very friendly and approachable.
Great Professor. I thought his class was pretty easy. Do some Excel Spreadsheets (Step by Step instructions) I think we had like 2 homework assignments throughout the semester (1/2 page answers). Easy quizzes, one sentence answers. Exams are based mostly on lecture, easy B without buying the book. Just take notes during lecture and pay attention.
Fun class and great teacher! He's is a really nice guy. Work is easy considering he makes sure you understand it before moving on. Not too many homework assignments. Exams are pretty clear cut considering he tells you what to study. A small 2 minute presentation for your group. Not too bad considering I don't like presentations currently.
His class is really easy if you already know bout computer and information system. I have no problem doing access assignment. He really nice and would make sure that everyone understand lecture. Project and presentation aren't bad. Presentation are like 1 minute and my team did like 30 sec. xD Still did great. He funny and nerdy.
Burkhard rules. This class was actually very interesting, and he really gets into his lectures. He doesn't teach from the book, but you'll need it for some exam questions. He tells you everything you need to know and gets you through the Access assignments quickly. Very in-depth group project but kinda fun and easy with a good group.Best professor
weird guy but he explains the material really good. group assignments every week were a pain in the ass but ultimately they help you learn AND make the final group project a lot easier. he's pretty funny, kind of conceited but i guess its all the degrees he has. def. recommend this class, you will LEARN a lot and he makes it easy to learn.
He's very helpful and if you go to his office hours he offers you candy haha. Other than that an excellent teacher. Makes you want to further your career in MIS. Classes are easy just make sure you attend all of it and you should get an A in the class. Don't be late though he doesn't like that.
Teaches what you need to know to prepare you for a job. Gives a lot of career advice, and is helpful. Doesn't like teaching from the text, and you will only use it as a reference for exams. Expects 100% attention from students, and doesn't like tardiness. Frequently visits Disneyland, and occasionally flaunts his annual pass.
The first test is based off notes and is stupid easy. The final is a bit more challenging. He grades fairly easy. The assignments he gives are just busy work that are intended to waste your time. He acts pretty crazy, like he's wired on caffeine or something.
Project graded by IS words not content/DB/flowchart designed b/c he knew only IS words not IS! Taught nothing but asked students do a lot for him-all he wanted/cared were to help him build good relationship w/ IT Co. & get his tenure, not teaching! He asked us test s/w for IBM & make videos but could only say positive words?he asked us cheating!

Rich has a very low self-esteem and because of this has a superiority complex. If you challenge him or disagree with he will take it very personal and it will hurt his feelings. Just make him feel smart and give him attention and you will get at least a B. If you actually do the work it's an easy A. I feel sorry for guy, but he's alright.
He is very nice teacher who always gives you good grades as far as you try to do your work (If you can't, just talk to him and he'll help you or give you more time. No final and candies almost every class for your attendance! He just wants you to learn and feel good about yourselves. Very easy grader!
Ok. Let's come to the point. He does discrimination to his students. He has "favorites" who will always get "A" from him, even though the work is incomplete or late. He is the only one teaching 110B, so I feel bad for the smart students who do their work on time and complete but get less score than his "Favorites" he need to go !!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
comment below me exactly what i wanted to say. You know what Burkhard, go and teach kids!!! freaking Disneyland lover.
Stay away from this guy. Every weekend he goes to Disneyland! worst teacher at SJSU. If you are late even 1 min, he will make big deal out of it. You know what get a life dude.
Burkhard is a very good professor. Systems Design and Analysis was explained very practically and effectively. The projects / presentations for this class were not the best, however.
Rich is the classic example of why jobs are leaving the U.S. and going to India. He is a useless professor that is lazy. There are several elite Indian students in his classes that know the material better than he does yet they get low grades. He is very jealous of Indians because they have more knowledge than he does. Very **** professor.
He is a unfair grader. if he says your excercises or project is excellent when you ask him for help, you better do not trust him because you probably receive a C on your work. So, I recommend all of you who taking or will take his class write down what he said for evidence because it may help you a lot at the end of semester!
This professor does not like disagreements of any kind. You have to always agree to his viewpoint...very egocentric.
Kind of a useless teacher. I think he should teach highscool or junior high because he is not at the college level. And you do have to agree with everything he says other wise you will get a very low grade. He plays favorites and applys discrimination.
Nice and gives candy often! 1 test, 1 final, 1 group project, lots of quizzes. Textbook required to do well on tests. Work on the exercises when they are assigned. Group project is NOT easy and you need to work on it all semester. No professor likes lazy students so don't be lazy. Would you expect to keep a job if you were late all the time? NOPE!
Dr. Burkhard is a humble leader in the field he lectures. Very professional yet motivating and he clearly CARES for all his students. His lectures are priceless for every alumni comes back for more and with stories of the effectiveness of his methodologies. Dr. B deserves only the most motivated students who want to succeed and the reward is an A
Very good teacher, right to the point, funny, and friendly. His lectures are interesting and the questions on the quizes and exams are straight forward. The only complaint I have of him is that he is way to strict on students who come in late. There is no reason to scold students who walk in half a minute late.
Pretty much a BS class. He's very by the book though (he's trying to get tenure) so even if there's nothing to talk about he'll drag the class on until near the end and let us out early (by a whopping 5 minutes..). The concepts he teaches make sense, but will never be used in the real world (he's a researcher and doesn't have much industry exp.)
Prof Burkhard is very passionate about what he teaches, which is a good thing. Make sure you go to class everyday and don't show up late. Most of your grade is dependent on a group project, so pick smart people! ASK QUESTIONS!!! He loves student participation in class, and you will score big points with him if you make yourself known!
Very good teacher, he knows what he's talking about. Didn't use book but you will need it just to study from for the test. Pay attention in class and you will do fine. Must be there everyday or you will fall behind.
Be on his good side. Participation will get you an A. I took 110A and 110B concurrently. Put in more effort towards 110B but ended up with a D. Got an A in 110A. Sorry Professor Bukhard. Hopefully, for next semester, you'll be reasonable and, most importantly, FAIR, in your grading schematics. Just a heads up. Good teacher, but unfair to the few.
He is absolutely nice. I have never seen such a nice professor in the world. I am sure you should take it. It is not hard and not difficult to get an A. Good! Best!
Great Professor ! Highly recommended. Please please please take him if you want an A or B+. If you can, rent or split the book with a classmate because you wont need it. But for the group paper you will need to use terms that are in the textbook. Trust me if you take him, you wont fail. I got a B+ and im lazy.
THE BEST PROFESSOR IN COB. Prof B cares a lot about students. He aspects everyone to think like professional which will help a lot in future life. His lectures are extremely clear and enjoyable. He brings snacks to encourage and motivate students. He is a key person for recommendations. He will tell students what exactly to expect in exams.
Final was way too hard!!! But overall he is extremely helpful professor. I learned a lot from him. His lectures are fun to attend. He dislikes students who comes in late but I guess he wants everyone to behave professional. I really like this prof. Highly recommend him.
Nice guy. Grading is a bit odd. Everything is based on how much you use vocab words in assignments. This is key for the project. Proj is real competition. Vocab determines the what place you come in. Place=grade. Vocab trumps idea quality. He will help you though. I got a B-.
Rich is a nice guy and his class is easy if you show up and pay attention. With that being said, he claimed to have real business experience (false) and even encouraged students to send him their resumes so that he can forward them to his "connections" at Google since he is well known. I now work at Google and nobody I talked to has heard of him.
This guy has a very stupid and ridiculous way of grading. Everything was based on words counting and he did not care about QUALITY other than just QUANTITY. He was convinced by himself that it was a good way. NO, it's NOT. I would not recommend to take his class since you won't learn anything. It was a stupid class and a useless teacher.
I wouldn't recommend him but he's the only choice for 110B. Lectures are bs - all you do is draw diagrams. He likes participation a lot. Final project was stupid. Midterm and final are very hard. He put tiny details from the textbook (BUY IT) which are very tricky. Stay on his good side: don't be late to class (he hates this) and participate a lot.
Burkhard is a terrible professor. I aced both midterm and final. I got a B+ on the project because my word count was not up to par compared to other students, YES WORD COUNT. He even mentioned that my content was above other groups but "his hands are tied" because of the amount of word count there is in the class project..... ridiculous...
Dr. Burhard is a decent professor. He is very picky on what goes on in his class, he does not like anyone to talk or be late to class, which is his biggest pet peeve. His quizzes are very straight forward. He gives one Midterm and one Final. Overall if you do what he asks of you, you will have no problem passing the class.
genuinely a nice guy and enthusiastic about class
Study the models and you will do well. Midterm and Final are open book, open laptop & open internet. The homeworks will be put into your final project, so do them well the first time. He definitely cares more for quantity v quality, so make sure to fluff up your final project. Get a lot of participation cards as well. Pop quizzes sometimes.
I took him Fall 2014. He is number one of my favorite profs. Very nice. He is willing to teach well in class and cares about students. Don't miss class. He will give quizzes and extra credit cards. The test and group exercises are cakes. Easy graders that means bad sometimes. He smiled to me every time and will miss him so much. Thank you Rich!
Burkhard teaches this class based on business models and allows students to learn on their own in groups while using the tools necessary to succeed. As long as you are willing and happy to go to class, you pass.
He's a genuinely nice guy. He tries to teach (younger) students to become professionals - some of them are totally clueless. However, a lot of students are not ready for him. You need to do two things to ace his class: participate in the class and complete the group projects in a timely manner. I've been to his office once, but I still got an A+.
He's a decent professor to take when it comes to learning more about m.i.s. His class is simple, and it's not hard to get an A. Participation matters and try your best to participate a lot.
I was worried about this class at first, but it was such an easy A. The class mainly consists of modules done by you and your group, so make sure to choose solid group members. No exams, at all. The modules were a bit lengthy but doable, especially if all your group members contributed equally. Highly recommended!
Awesome professor! He is very passionate about what he does and enjoys helping his students. Learning in an environment that is not stressful!! You get what you put in to this class. Pick a good group and participate in class as much as possible for P-cards. No midterms/final. My favorite professor at SJSU!!
Dr Rich is an awesome professor. He always encourages students and tries to help them as best as he can. He gives tons of extra credit as long as you speak in the class or talk to him in the office hour. If you do the work, you're guaranteed to get an A from the class.
Pros: -no quizzes/ exams/finals Cons: - a lot of busywork but easy - you probaly won't learn much - participation is mandatory as he gives out P- cards
Great professor in terms of caring for and understanding of his students. There are no tests or quizzes in this class. He stresses participation and positivity in class, and he seems to get angry or upset when it doesn't happen which makes the class feel more negative than positive...
The whole course revolves around assignments known as modules. These modules are a workload and if your group complete 27 modules then it will result in an A. Also weekly canvas questions are not to be taken lightly because they are weighted a lot even though they are worth 1 pt. Remember to participate as much as possible for pts so he wont b mad!
All Dr. Rich needs is attention. His 'lectures' are not actual lectures where you learn about the material. His class is a game; the objective of the game is to make Dr. Rich feel smart and interesting. If you're going to take him, get ready for holding a fake smile because he demands you to do so. To get an A in his class, be a yes-man.
This class was really disappointing.
What this professor taught in a semester could have been taught in 3 lectures MAX from a different professor. 4 quizzes, modules you do with a group, and participation points make up your grade. The modules, he just looks at and stamps (if he's in a good mood). The other issue is that most students lie on participation points to get a decent grade
This was the worst professor ever had. No real teaching. He spends the class time to talk about unrelated topics and easy to tell he is just trying to pass time. For group assignments; he doesn't even read them. Students stand in line to get their assignments checked and he stamps them without even looking at it. He has a very moody personality.
This professor is an embodiment of why the value of higher education is eroding. You will not learn anything in this course. One's IQ may even be lowered by the vacuous lectures about positivity and laments against cell phone usage. Smiling in class is mandatory. Yes, mandatory! The poor quality of education provided is an insult to anyone.
Dr. Rich is very clear on what he grades. Make sure to fill out the participation cards as the weeks go by. The modules seem like a lot of work, but you do it with your group and becomes quite easy for the most part. Try and participate in class like raising your hand or asking questions. Interesting class if you like to learn concurrent tech.
In addition to the content, Dr. Rich imparts lessons about etiquette and social norms expected in the real world of business. As a working professional in MIS, I can tell you that attitude, manners, and enthusiasm are essential soft-skills in an IT career. Listen, learn, and practice what Dr. Rich offers, and you will gain a marketable edge.
Was ill when I had the privilege of getting to know him. RIP
