The Kebbler Elf? Who wouldn't like this guy? He's great. The class is pretty cool. Sometimes it's a little boring....but it's fun.
he is a really nice guy. The tests aren't very hard at all as long as you read. he gives study guides for all of the tests which help immensly! overall, not a hard class.
very good teacher, gets very excited about polisci, loves wat he does, easy as long as you go to class as a lot of his tests are based on lecture. very happy to help, KEEEEBLER ELF!!!! (;
mumbles
talks very quietly and mutters under his breath a lot so sit near the front. lets you know what he wants from you and what is on the test.
his class was boring, but then he taught political science.. how interesting can govrenment get? he showed a great concern about his students and thats why i respect the guy. i emailed him a lot if something was unclear, whether it be his grading policy or something covered on a test. take his class
He's a pretty goofy guy, but in a good/funny way. He digresses often and mutters just as much, so sit in the front. He puts up on practice tests online which are pretty helpful. The tests aren't that bad. Overall, a good teacher.
He's super nice but if u want to hear anything he says, sit towards the front. He tends to babble about nothing...and crack jokes that no one can hear. I suggest going to class and listening...no matter how boring it is.
His class is not hard, however you definitely need to put in the effort. There are two papers in this class, but nothing to worry about. The tests are OK, not too bad, but nothing you can just wing. overall he is a good teacher, if you work hard, he will work hard for you
very interesting lectures. offers lots of extra credit. papers aren't difficult as long as you put in the effort. overall great professor and fun class!
Haesly is a great professor. His lectures are entertaining and helpful. His tests cover the main concepts and are easy multiple choice. Essays may be diffucult for individuals who aren't interested in politics but they are graded fairly. You will learn a lot, even if you think you know it all about politics.
i took notes at first then realized you dont have to. the night or day before the test i would read the summaries in the book and the bold words and i got A's on all 4 tests. i did go to all the classes though because there were opportunities for extra credit he would only talk about in class or you would get by just being there.
Took it in the summer 3 week class. He was very helpful and humorous. Highly recommended.
Love him!!! Just see him on his office hours and he will give you an A!
He's so passionate about polisci that he makes you enjoy it. Pay attention in lectures to help out on certain test questions, and ALWAYS e-mail him your essay drafts in advance. He was helpful and his quirky digressions are hilarious.
He's a great professor! Cares very much about your success in the class and after the class. Definitely a rare professor and that's refreshing. Take him if you honestly care about the education that you are receiving at Long Beach.
He's great...take his classes.
Good teacher!
easy class. boring as hell though. i hate political science now. much more than i already did. w o w just talking about him is making me tired all over again DONT TAKE THIS CLASS AT LONG BEACH it is a waste of time make it easier for yourself take ges at a Junior college
He's way laid back, he talks really fast so you kinda have to pay atenttion. He gives extra credit for each exam, for the most part it's an easy class.
Pretty easy course, as long as you take notes in class. He posts summaries of each chapter on beachboard. The T/A's are temptingly cute. I'm a guy.
I loved his class. Very easy going teacher that knows his material. He talks fast but he repeats himself at least twice so taking notes, which is important in his class, is not hard. He gives plently of extra credit so there should be no reason you don't get an A or at least a B. He's always sending the overheads and study guides so that helps.
As he states, an easy B but hard A. 2 midterms, 1 final, 2 essays, 4-6 extra cedit oppertunities. Very strait forward, GREAT teacher, availalbe AND helpful outside of class. He does eveything but gives you the answers to his tears. TAKE THE CLASS!
Very helpfull and is really fun in class and knows ahat he is talking about. Personally he was a challenge for me but he helped me alot.
Fairly easy teacher... most people don't come to class, I go to every single one... just cuz it's knowledgable.. I liked it =)

He is a cool teacher. You dont really have to show up to the lectures. He could be boring at times, but not bad overall. He's passionate about political science. His class involves 3 exams, 2 papers, and 3 extra credit opportunities. The test aren't so bad, the papers okay aswell.
It's funny because he talks so fast, but he never gets through his lectures. He isn't boring, though. He is also very helpful with papers and he's clear about his expectations. I'm a poli sci minor because of him.
Professor Haesly is a pretty chill dude. He knows his material and wants you to know too. He is super cool and pretty easy. I highly recommend him.
He's really passionate during lectures, so don't fall asleep. He's a great instructor, and his constant hand motions cracked me up.
he's really funny and sarcastic, the class was interesting but still challenging so that you wouldn't fall asleep so often
He is a great professor! Totally friendly and helpful. Although there was a "Conference" where you had to write a 10-12pg paper and give a 10min conference about it and then take questions from both him and the class, it was still great. I hate public speaking and found the conference to be both fun and helpful. I definetly recommend his class.
He is a greatg teacher very passionate about political science. Recommend him highly!!!! Also he is very sexy his intelligence is a huge turn on! I could sit and watch him lecture all day. Too bad I only have him for an hour. Take him though.
great.... So funny and sarcastic.... there is no way you can fall asleep in this class. He is constantly going off on some crazy tangent but its still interesting
Awsome Teacher!!!! He is repetitive but it helps get things through. Tests are easy if you go to class and pay attention and read the book. He makes class interesting. I would totally recomend taking this teacher he is the best teacher i have had so far.
Rich is an amazing professor. He is articulate adn clear, although he tends to go off on tangents(that are completly related to the course content, are interesting and incredibly useful) Understaning and compassionate, willing to help those who ask for it. Doesn't follow the course outline, but always post them online ahead of time.
A really great guy! Besides being interesting and passionate about his work, but he is also genuinely interested in his students.
I don't like political science but he actually made the class interesting! I think he's a great professor...he loves what he does and he is very funny and sarcastic. The tests are pretty easy if you pay attention during lecture. Recommend him! :]
Great guy. He was very helpful with sending out emails every now and then to keep everyone updated. Attendance is not mandatory, but he covers things in lectures that are not in the textbook. Read every chapter twice, and anyone should do fine.
good professor very passionate about the subject...makes polisci interesting and not boring at times, tries to be funny can be at times...overall its easy to get a B...but little harder to get an A. He does not curve. If you are very close to an A he wont give it to you. I guess you have to earn it even if you are that close. Overall take his class
I barely came to class and still managed with about 88%. Grades based on two 3-5pg papers and 3 tests. He's really nice and tries to be funny. I'm just not into politics so the class was very boring to me. He talks alot about nonsense stuff sometimes and just rambles off. Not one of my favorite classes, but it was okay.
He was hard but i guess if your into politics its not. He tries to hard and i didnt feel he made the class interesting at all, he was boreing and he bothered me. I personally hated his class and his teaching, i would have taken someone else instead.
the absolute easiest class i have ever taken. if you pay attention in class (which can be hard bc he ALWAYS repeats himself), and skim the book, the tests are a breeze, plus he give extra credit
high energy and very funny.
Study before almost every class. Requires reading of 3 textbooks and FREE (available online) course packet. Not easy; but if you can talk a bit, and synthesize what you read, then you will have fun. Lots of reading!
Fun class. Lots of reading for graduate students, but the course is still interesting -- 60% of the time anyway. By default "Methods" is boring, so this can be good. Attendance is important. Do ALL the work, and there is lots to do. You won't bored, but the course is very repetitive-don't let that fool you. ALWAYS SHOW UP and TALKING is a MUST!
Great professor and interesting guy. I would suggest you take his class, but if you are a grad student you have to. I suggest consulting him before turning in your response papers. He's not as forthcoming about what he expects here. Other than that, very enjoyable class.
He's so much fun! And his passion for polisci entices the rest of us!
this class was pretty hard for me. grade is based on 4 exams. exams consists of multiple choice and essay portion. gives a lot of extra credit throughout semester. he talks really fast and mumbles a lot. walk around the round and doesnt stay still. you can tell that he really is passionate about politics. nice guy but not good at teaching the subje
this class to me was hard....did not pass even with the extra credit... at times it could be interesting...
Dr. Haesly highly intelligent and during his lectures some have trouble keeping up with his rapid-fire style, yet he has overheads up and between those and the textbook, anyone with basic understanding of how the political system in the U.S. works should be able to pull a B. Seriously if this class was difficult for you...please do not vote...ever.
Dr. Haesly is 1 of the most understandable prof on campus. if you can't pass his class, u really should reconsider being a student. the class is straight fwd if u know anything about US gov't & u read the textbook. he gives u plenty of xtra credit so take advantage of it, read the chptrs @ least once & pay attn during lecture it helps! great prof!
OMG I miss Mr, Haesly, hes actually a very awesome teacher, its evident that hes passionate bout his class and a super sweet guy. Hes class is not difficult 4 midterms plus u can do some extra credit but you as a student have to keep up with work because if not you be sorry lol... but yea hes kinda cute too hehe
Intelligent, engaging, funny professor. Talks nonstop, which could be annoying, but is actually pretty endearing. Tests are mostly essay, but he goes over everything in class. Plenty of extra credit available with a little work. Recommended.
Dr. Haesly is a great professor! He really knows his stuff. Grade consists of 4 exams, and there is extra credit too. He is really helpful during office hours. He gives study guides for the tests which is good.
this was my favorite class, its very nice if you like politics. there was kind of a lot of reading, so it helps if your interested. I got an A since i attended every class and read the book faithfully, there may be little room for slacking...but that didnt work out too well for ppl i knew in the class.
He's an easy teacher but his political opinions border on Socialism. If you share that, no problem. But if you're center or right of center, good luck. Liberals are supposed to be all about equality, but he goes on and on about race, gender, and class. If you're in his class during an election, don't worry about how you should vote, he'll tell you.
He looks exactly like Bill Gates and talks JUST like Jesse Eisenberg. He's totally liberal and not afraid to say so. He kind of talks really fast, but it's okay. He repeats himself so that you're able to take copious notes
The course consists of heavy reading; if reading is not appealing in your learning process do not take this course. If the course is small enough he will make this into a discussion course rather than notes based course. Overall if you do the readings you will be fine.
He's a really good teacher and is (like everyone says) passionate about what he teaches. Four exams and two extra credit assignments (you dont get alot of points though so just dont fall behind on the exams) Just read the required chapters and do both extra credit assignments.
All you need to do to pass is go to class and actually pay attention because he goes over everything that will be on the test...if you do miss lecture make sure to read the book chapters because those help you understand the subject more clearly, his study guides are very helpful...good teacher overall :)
he talks forever. Add too much unnecessary filler -___- tests are alright, but you need to go to the review sessions. id recommend taking someone else
This class helps develop your political views/learn a lot about current global issues. Everything you learn is relevant. grade is based on 2 6 pg papers, a midterm and a final (both essay format). Haesly is a REALLY nice guy and willing to help out his students who try. I definitely recommend him
If reading is your PRIMARY means of learning, take him: I got an A on all exams but attended class only 3 times. I did not have/use the supplement book. His study guides are the BEST! Exams consist of multiple choice, 2 short answer and an essay. Don't put intro/conclusion, answer each essay question with a paragraph, they don't care about format.
Dr. Haesly is a great prof. Quite opinionated on his views, but other than that he teaches the EXACT material on the test. If you pay attention in lecture you will do fine. Hardly read the book, took notes in class, and looked over the study guides and got A's on all the test. Grade is 4 test and 2 ex credit assignments. Dr. Haesly is great
I would highly recommend this class. He gives out interesting assignments and papers. I went into the class expecting to dislike it and went out loving it.
This class is easy if you actually read the book, which I would do at the last minute when I studied for the exams :P but I still got an A in the class! So read! He tends to ramble on ALOT, but he does emphasize certain things in the lectures that are going to be on the exams. There is a study guide for every exam including the final.
He is kewl... Talks vary fast, keep an eye out for his hints ... If you do you can guess what the big essay questions on the test are... Have to take notes so better show up, he will say the first test is the hardest but if you take notes and study the chapters ull do good.... Study guides are very useful ... Again keep a close eye And you will be able to predict what's on the test!
you dont need to go to class at all just read the book and look over his slides ++plus the study guide, or you can go to class and never have to study because he is so engaging. there is extra credit which overall is about 7% of the overall grade. test are easy im gonna get an a and i think i studied way to hard. awesome teacher overall
He's passionate about Political Science, but he's horrible at teaching it. He talks way too fast!! going to class is pointless because i couldn't understand. you have to READDD the book. Overall, this class was okay... but i put in a lot of HARD work. I got a high B in the class.
This was an interesting class! He LOVES what he does&definitely knows what hes talking about. SIT IN THE FRONT OF CLASS! sometimes he mumbles things, but hes funny! There is extra credit on all the exams and he gives you extremely helpful study guides. Also he will say wahts on a test in class.
He is a decent professor to have for poli-sci. His animated personality and passion makes his lectures interesting. Even though his lectures are intriguing to watch, drinking coffee during/before his class is recommended. He talks throughout the entire class time so, make sure you're able to pay attention to what he is saying for a long period.
Completely adapts to help and guide you toward your potential, not st a great teacher but a completely down- to- earth guide to your best tential.
He talks to fast
he is ind of funny. sit close, talks way to fast.
He talks way too fast and mumbles at the end of all his sentences.I'd recommend taking another professor for this class.
I LOVED THIS CLASS. It honestly is not all that bad, just take really good notes and he basically tells you whats on the exams. (4 Exams including The Final)multiple choice and short Essay, really easy if you pay attention in class. And I don't know why people say he mumbles? He only talks really fast when he goes off topic, so it's no big deal.
He talks pretty fast and goes on tangents quite often but overall, he's an amazing teacher. He offers TONS of extra credit and his lectures are straightforward. Either go to class and pay attention or read the textbook. 4 exams total, no homework
GREAT class, it is very easy. Attendane is not mandatory but Ihigly encourage it. He talks very fast, but always repeats what he is saying. He is very funny and his jokes makes class more interesting. Take his class.
I loved this class! I hated the subject until Dr. Haesly taught me to love it. He makes you really interested in this class and he will help you. He even tells the kids in the back to quiet down when he's lecturing; he's just so cool! I really recommend that you take him if you're taking POSC 100!
Very energetic and passionate about Political Science. a very sexy geek
great teacher! currently taking his class , he really makes you want to learn and makes government clear and fun, if you ask questions he'll make sure you understand, only 4 exams and attendance isn't mandatory but pretty helpful
Dr. Haesly is very passionate about his lectures which automatically makes the class more interesting. He does go off on tangents every so often but he sends out overhead guidelines prior to class which help you distinguish what is important and what isn't. His exams aren't bad either. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
I had no interest in polisci before taking this class. Haesly makes the subject interesting and he's really helpful. He basically gives the answers to the test in his lectures. The textbook readings are useful but i only ever read the last page of each chapter. There are 3 exams and a final.
Class is extremely easy because answers to test questions are emphasized in lecture, or covered in the book and are practically verbatim. Either attend the class or read the book if you want to do well
He is so funny and fast but he is very repetitive. He repeat himself rapidly. He is down for everything for you to succeed. I recommend this prof for you. easy A.
Great teacher and great energy. He is always enthusiastic when he comes to class and teaches which rubs off on you. Makes understanding the course really easy and fun. I definitely recommend him if you're going to take political science.
Probably the best Gov teacher you can have. His lectures are absolutely hilarious and interesting. You'll do fine as long as you PAY ATTENTION, his lectures cover everything you need to know and he gives you practice quizzes for the finals.
Took POSC 100 during Winter: He made it enjoyable and I actually miss his class now. He is an animated lecturer. We watched funny political videos & exams always had an opportunity for extra credit. 2 exams, 1 research paper & a final. Goes by fast; You can do it!!!
Dr. Hasley is a very nice professor his personality is great and he has lot of enthusiasm toward political science. The problem is that he speak too fast and is pretty difficult to take notes of what he is saying. If you're a visual learner like me, I do not recommend it, I had to drop the class.
Lectures are boring. Only 4 exams (MC & essay), extra credit opportunities on exams. He gives study guides! If you don't attend class, make sure to read or at least attend the class before the exam. He's funny sometimes too.
This dude is pretty chill. All I do is go to class and listen to what he says. Sometimes he's interesting other times he can be boring. overall I think the class is easy. I got A's in all test so far. Although some ppl do struggle so I guess it depends if you like posc or not Overall I would recommend. Don't buy the book he tells you to but don't.
He does teach at a faster pace. He goes everything well. He does give a study guide and extra credit on the exams. He's super-grande awesome!
Prof Haesly is a very auditory teacher; he only presents an outline of what he'll talk about both online and on an overhead in class (he also talks extremely fast). Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's highly suggested that you go since he gives questions on what is said in lecture. You will have 4 exams and one extra credit opportunity.
Took him Winter 2015 so there might be small differences from the semester . If someone were to complain about this professor I'd assume he or she is a fickle baby with the logic of a banana. Generous grader, and is extremely enthusiastic and passionate about teaching the class. Paying attention to lecture helped me most for the exams.
I enjoyed professor Haesly. He is passionate about the subject and he talks a little fast at times but you can keep up if you pay attention. Attendance not mandatory but you should go to class and definitely keep up with the readings. There's around 3 chapters per exam. 4 exams, none cumulative, and they are half m.c. And half essay. recommend !!!!
I didn't know it was possible but he actually made political science interesting! Amazing professor, you can tell he's passionate about the topic which makes you want to learn it as well. Took the class during Winter; only 3 papers (1-2 pages) and 4 exams. P.S a lot of the daily show clips which is super rad!!!!
He's hilarious definitely one of my favorite professors at CSULB. He does mumble and it can be hard to understand him sometimes but just make sure to read and youll probably pass the class. Overall he makes political science extremely interesting and you will learn a lot from him.
Dr. Haesly is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is the nicest guy you will ever meet. He is willing to work with you no matter what. There are 4 tests and that is it. He offers a study guide per test. Class isn't too hard at all. Show up, take notes, and email him if you have questions. He wants you to succeed in his class. Take him!
If you get distracted for even a second the whole thing is thrown off and it is hard to keep up. It can be confusing, he is very much an auditory teacher. There is an outline but even that isn't much help. If you do the reading and study on your own (he gives a study guide) you should do fine. 4 tests and 1 extra credit opportunity.
This class is not an easy general G.E. posc 100. If you want an A, you need to be faithful to the book and readre-read. This topic can be interesting at times but most of the times, it is boring. He's a good lecturer with an animated style character, super funny too. 3 tests and a non-cumulative final (MC and free response). There is an EC project
Lectures are long and he loves to have tangents which makes the lectures interesting. He's a great professor because he explains everything that he asks on the tests clearly in the lectures. No surprises on his tests. Midterms are easy if you study the chapters. Final is not cumulative which is nice. Just make sure to study to get a passing grade.
Dr. Haesly is an amazing professor. There are three overall tests and one final. The tests aren't hard if you read the chapters and do the study guide that he provides.
He's great! I took his class during the summer and it was challenging but doable. We had 3 essays and 3 tests due within 3 weeks. He grades pretty easy on the essays and gives you positive feedback on how to do better on them next time which helps a lot. Great guy and great professor!
He is very talkative. He'll mumble a lot of silly jokes and weird things but he's a great guy. 4 exams no homework or quizzes. He is very passionate about history so you do learn a lot. He cares for everyones well being but you have to make the effort to talk to him since theres so many students. Tests aren't too difficult just study notes well.
His lectures are so interesting and keeps you engaged even if you aren't interested in Government. Very basic concepts, doesn't really get into the science aspect of the class. It's basically AP Government all over again. Super cool guy, no homework, just 3 midterms and a final. Would take it again.
He's a very interesting teacher. Hes really descriptive in lecture and super helpful through emails and office hours. You do use the book but his class is so easy. Attendance is good if you want to pass because he gives most of the information on the test in class. Other than that he's really easy.
I am not a history type of person but Professor Haesly made the class interesting and I actually learned a lot in his class. His lecture notes are posted on BeachBoard before class so you can just follow along as he goes. My advice is to go to class because he gives information that will be on the tests. 4 tests with study guides and no homework
You must go to class. Take notes on EVERYTHING he says. Tests are not hard as long as you study the study guide, lecture notes, & read the chapters in the book. Lecture is so boring but so necessary to passing. He's also very politically biased which is very unprofessional as a political science prof. Anyways, pretty easy. 4 exams only. Buy books.
Haesly is freaking great. Attendance isn't mandatory, but since I didn't buy the book attendance was pretty mandatory. If you don't buy the book, just go to class and you will do great. Got an A in the class, simply by just paying attention in lectures. Gives 4 exams. He is hilarious, kind of reminds me of Sheldon from the BBT. Totally recommend!
super hot teacher!!!!! and even better he is the best poli sci!!! super highly recommend him, only four tests throughout the semester and no homework ever. you have an opportunity for extra credit for each exam. hes so funny and so hot!!!!!!! LOVE HIM YUMMY
Haesly's class was so boring. Would ramble through all his lectures. 4 given exams which are pretty clear and easy. Emailed him many times for tips and help on the study guides and would never get a response.
Your grade is based solely on 4 exams but don't let that fool you, there's A LOT of reading!! There's a method to doing well in his class which you must catch onto after the first exam otherwise you won't do so well. Exams are comprised of 24 multiple choice questions + 2 essay questions that must be answered in no less than one page. I got an A.
Haesly has an interesting humor which helped make the class easier to attend. Don't skip class because he tells you some questions that will be in the exam and gives information not found in the book. Textbook isn't necessary, just take good notes and follow the lecture outlines he posts online.
Haesly made this class SUPER easy!! Clear on what he wants on exams. Lectures are verbal, but if you go to every lecture you should be fine. He makes lectures very interesting. Make sure to go to lectures he gives exam questions and answers! Overall, one of the best POSC professors I would definitely take this class again!
My one complaint: his tangents!! While they are mostly related to course material (as he claims) they are not relevant to the test which wastes time so test material is often crammed last minute before an exam. Pretty easy though if you take lecture notes and read. 4 exams mc, short answer, extra credit qs. There's also an extra credit assignment
4 exams (he gives study guides) are all you are graded on. Go to class! He tells you several questions and answers for the exams! Questions weren't hard, his wording would help in choosing the right answer. If you typically depend on the book, then read, I just don't. Very interactive & enthusiastic lecturer but goes off on tangents. Great teacher
This class was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. Attend all of his lectures because they are basically clear review for the exams. He gives out a lot of the exam questions and topics that is going to be on the exam, and it's guaranteed. He even gives out extra credit questions that will be on the exam. His random remarks threw me off tho.
Extremely biased, but the easiness of this class is so worth putting up with his tangents! 4 super easy exams - I got over 100% on all of them. He gives you a study guide and offers a lot of extra credit. Do yourself a favor and take him!! He's awesome!!
He is a pretty good professor, his lectures have a lot of information so I would recommend going to class(although he does not take attendance). He tends to go on a lot of mini rants, but he can be pretty funny. His entire classes is based on four exams, and he does give lots of opportunity for extra credit.
Such a funny guy! Yes he mumbles, just sit in the front and you'll be fine. Yes he rambles, but its always usually funny! and the tangents are examples you can use for the exams. There are no papers to write but there are three tests that include essays but he provides study guides (with multiple choice questions) so you'll do fine :)
He is a funny expressive teacher who gives out extra credit and study guides. You really can't fail his class unless you obviously don't do any reading to know whats going on. He is a very nice professor. TAKE HIM if you want to pass POSC 100.
Dude, this class is a breeze if you understand basic political science and basic US history. I didn't buy the textbook, I never went to class, and I still passed. I only went to the one hour review sessions that were held before each exam (4 exams). You are only graded on 4 exams, nothing else. He also gives EC assignments, if you need/want them.
He's not the worst professor, but does ramble a lot. grade based on 4 exams offers extra credit which should help. id take it with another professor
Solid professor. There is 3 midterms and 1 final. That is all you are graded on. Do not buy the textbook. Show up to class, take good notes, and you shall be fine. He provides study guides for each test, which are extremely helpful and similar to the actual tests. Gives questions and answers to test during lecture, so show up.
It was an honor to take this course with Professor Haesly. This course is easy because he makes it super interesting and fun to go to class, but hard like any other GE course. Gives extra credit. Go to class and youll pass, read textbook and youll pass. Absolutely fantastic professor hes quirky but extremely smart.
I hate politics, and this class made me hate it even more. Haesly talks too fast, lets his obvious bias show, and rambles a lot. Tests are okay if you study. 4 exams, lots of reading, no assignments (just some extra credit). Take it with someone else.
Haesly is awesome. He has a tendency to talk in circles and it can be hard to stay focused because of that, but he will answer any question you have. He is always available in his office hours and to answer questions in email. He reads drafts of assignments and gives study guides for his tests. I definitely recommend him.
Great Professor. I am actually not a big fan of politics and was not excited to take this class. BUT I have learned a lot by going to class and really listening to what he says. It is easy to get out of focus because he does get off topic and jumps back in but nothing too bad. Provides study guides for 3 exams and final, no homework just exams
Too hard to follow where he was at in the notes when he would lecture
i TOOK Haesly for POSC100 (government) and it was a pretty easy class overall. It's graded on I believe 3 tests and a final which are non-cumulative. He offers extra credit on each test and has extra credit opportunities outside of class as well.
Talks fast but his energy is contagious.
His lectures are great and he can talk for the whole lecture! He is very responsive to email and caring for the students! He will answer pretty much right away! 4 exams 25% each, tons of extra credit. Do well on exams and you will get an A! Good luck!
Great professor. Only graded on 4 exams (mc/frq) but they were easy and there's questions for extra credit opportunity. Lectures are interesting/he also shows videos from the daily show in class to help you grasp the material better. There was no homework besides reading but he doesn't collect anything. Can for sure pass w/o textbook. TAKE HIM!!!
I went to almost every lecture and read the textbook and still did poorly on the tests. The class is based on 4 tests and if you slip up on one, youre screwed. His lectures are so hard to follow that I end up leaving class more confused than I was before. Take this class at a community college and get it transferred if you want to actually learn.
The grade is consisted of THREE EXAMS and a FINAL. He doesn't do attendance or give any homework, so your grade is heavily depended on those. There's extra credit questions in it. If POSC is not interesting to you, do not take this class. He talks pretty fast and mumbles a lot. I read the material and studied a lot, but I still have a bad grade.
His lectures were very inconsistent, they drove me nuts. Sometimes they were more confusing than helpful. The assigned book was incredibly helpful especially during the stats portion of the class which was great. Nice guy but could be a way better professor.
I highly recommend taking this class. Showing up and taking notes gives you all the information you need to pass, especially hints about extra credit and test questions. He basically lays out what you need to include in your essays in order to get an A. I aced all 4 exams and ended the semester with over 100% and I barely used the text book.
He is a great professor but lectures A LOT. He is very passionate and you can see that through the positive attitude he continues to bring everyday. He does not take attendance as this class is a lecture class but the test material comes mainly from his lectures, the readings, and some videos. Would recommend if you learn best through listening.
I never rate on this app but he's definitely worth coming on here and rating He is honestly a great professor & incredibly knowledgeable He goes off on tangents, but he is witty and funny I got a lot of anxiety going to class and he actually calmed me down and encouraged me to come to class. "Challenge yourself to Excellence" <3 Id take him again
Just show up to the class and youll pass, for the exams he gives study guides which are easy to study from. Hes also full of energy and make the lectures easy to understand for those who know nothing about poli sci.
Dr. Haesly is a great professor who is knowledgeable in politics. Very nice and willing to provide assistance. He does talk pretty fast and goes off on tangents but you get used to it but his lectures are interesting. Recommend to use the sentence method as a way to take notes.
Haesly is one of those professors who cares more about being liked by his students than actually educating them. He 'accidentally' loaded up his desktop with pictures open of the airbnb he was staying in for the weekend, and then proceeded to talk about it for 15 minutes. Easy class, but gained little to nothing from his lectures. Good readings.
Fun, energetic guy that'll keep you up through the lecture most of the time, which can sometimes be rare with professors. Not hard, take notes, ask ?s, read a little, and you'll pass. 4 medium midterms(mc and short answer) with study guides/reviews, and extra credit.
Hes a great prof and always try to make lectures fun. He talks pretty fast so hopefully u can follow his pace. All the exams are MC and 2-3 part essay. He gives u study guides which the Qs are quite similar to the exams. Reading the textbook will definitely help u with the essay part, but too many chapters!!
Passionate about political science and makes learning about it not miserable. Super funny and entertaining; precious; must protec. Class is only graded on 4 exams throughout the semester but they're not too hard if you read (or skim) the textbooks and pay attention in class.
Professor Haesly is a great professor that gives outlines which helps you to know what material to study. His tests aren't hard, but you have to know your material. He makes lectures enjoyable by being hilarious and even offers extra credit on exams.
Haesly was a pretty good professor. His course only consists of 4 exams. In my opinion, showing up for the lectures is pretty important because he does go over important test questions (that actually show up on the tests) and he also tells you what he will ask on the test for extra credit. If you want to do well, be sure to read the book!
His class consists of only 4 exams with 1 extra credit opportunity. I went to almost all the lectures, took lots of notes, and barely read the text and I didn't pass. So I suggest that if you're not into political science, read the textbook, don't skip class, and take lots of notes.
He rants a lot in his lectures, and it is difficult to take notes in this class. He provides lecture outlines, but he stays on one topic for a long time during class. He's funny at first but difficult to follow. If you're not passionate about this subject you'll probably struggle. He goes pretty in depth for a 100 class
3 tests, 25 multiple choice and 3 essay questions if remember correctly, He does give extra credit for the tests but all of his questions are worded weird they confuse you and will have to read at least twice to make sure.
Tips: attend his lectures bc he gives what should be on the exam, do the study guide bc if you know the answer there then that means the concept is clear, go to review sessions!!! they go over the possible essay portion, he's approachable too so yuo can ask after class if ur still confused 4 exams, bc of pandemic he drops the lowest.
Dr. Haesly is knowledgeable about national identity. It's a lot of reading so make sure to manage your time. He does have tangents with his lecture, but he provides outlines to understand what we need to know about the exam. Make sure to study incrementally because he wants you to apply the readings to concepts. Overall, awesome professor
My first initial thoughts are, fast-talker, knowledgable, and just four exams. I personally don't think Prof. Haesly is boring, just the subject of POSC100. He's funny and really sends you info (in the fact that he really talks fast!!). You probably should get the textbook as questions from the exams can come from there, but he does give ec.
There was a ton of reading from the textbook and watching pre-recorded lectures. 3 essays, 3 easy MC exams. There are review sessions before the exams. Don't be afraid to ask for help!!I didn't send my essay for review until the last essay. He gives really good feedback on how to build on your essays, amazing with communication on updates & hours.
Honestly I hated this class so much besides him giving extra credit which was amazing you have three papers the first 2 essays were fairly easy the third one is so complicated you have I believe three exams and theyre so freaking hard to understand some I have written questions and some have multiple honestly i wouldn't take everything is video
Three essays and three tests in this class. You really have to read the book and watch lectures to understand the material. Offers feedback on essays, I've sent in all my essays for feedback and Dr. Haesly has given nothing but good recommendations. Tests were straightforward, if you read the book and watch the lectures, you're good.
Dr. Haesly is a great professor. His class was asynchronous with optional weekly check-ins . I went to a few to ask questions and he was very helpful. 3 exams, 3 essays. That's it. Not too bad, watch the lectures & assigned videos, you're golden. He cares about his students. Even online. He asked us for our favorite songs and made a whole playlist!
Prof. Haesly was very accomodating and respectful throughout the course. He gives great feedback if you send in your essays for review and he does truly want you to learn. Some people didn't use the book and got good grades, but my advice would be to read the book because it reinforces the lectures.
If you want to learn about nationalism, this is a class for you. There are not much assignments for class, but the participation is important. For every tests, he gives five point extra credits based on optional assignments such as self introduction and music recommendation. He is very caring and friendly. Overall, good class.
POSC 100 was my favorite course this semester, and that is mostly because of Prof Haesly. The online textbook was very important to the content, as well as his video lectures. 3 Essays, all of which you have a choice of topics, and 3 Tests that cover each of the units. Prof Haesly really cared about all of the students. Go to the drop-in Sessions.
He goes on tangents but that's fine, though most of the time his lectures are hard to take notes to. Still, you can tell he cares about his students & is excited to teach. Make sure you read the assigned material and you should be good on the few homework assignments (5) and exams (3). I recommend making a friend in this class to help each other!
Dr. Haesly is a great professor!! He is funny and very caring. You should always do your readings in order to succeed! and you can tell he does want you to be successful in his class. I noticed a lot of people said he goes on tangents, but it's just funny and he always has something interesting to say. I would take another course with him!
Enjoyed this class! Haesly gives good lectures, but most of the material is well-balanced between the assigned readings and class time, so you won't fail if you have to miss a few lectures. Very funny guy and seems to really care about his students.
I recommend Professor Haely because his lectures are amazing and his teaching skills are phenomenal. If you're looking for a professor who is reliable, uses what he teaches, and teaches you how to be successful, it's Rich. Although his lectures are heavy, he provides much useful information and things that will benefit you.
Overall the class is not bad. The entirety of your grade is 3 essays and 3 exams, which the exams are all taken online. Talks pretty fast so it can be hard to follow along, but he posts all of his slides online so you can look back. You don't have to go to class, as there is no attendance, but still recommended. Effort on essays goes a long way.
I absolutely love taking any class with Dr. Haesly. The lectures can be fast paced and rambly, but he does make class interesting. For POSC100 he says there are textbooks you need but I didn't get any of them and I passed with an A about as high as you could get. Will read over your essay and give you comments before you turn it in.
I genuinely like his class, he rants a lot (that's why people don't attend) but he always has a point to his rants. He gives answers to exams during his lectures so he values those who attend. The textbook is very mandatory but you don't have to buy it, I went through the whole semester on free trials, with different emails. Also the TA's helped!
Haesly is an average lecturer, but cares about his students. There's no need to go to all the lectures, just read the textbook and take notes on that and you will be fine. 3 essays and exams, but make sure you have him personally grade them because he is more lenient than the TA. His office hours are helpful, but he can ramble a lot sometimes.
Lots of material. Mumbles A LOT even when you sit in the front. Rants/rambles about a lot of stuff. The class has a lot of material. Get the book, Just read the book. Overall he is okay. Make sure to study for the tests and read the material. Have 3 tests & 3 papers. Kind of a harsh grader. But alr.
Dr. Rich Haesly was a great prof! Really silly guy, who obviously cares for what he teaches. I don't believe you need to buy the book, I did and never used it (75$). Graded on 3 exams and 3 essays. Do extra credit! (easy free points). He mumbles at times, sit closer to the front in the middle/right section. Try to attend most lectures OR study.
Besides being a yapper and rambler most of the time (dw me too), he truly cares about his students and wants them to learn something from his class. No need to attend all lectures or buy the $75 online textbook. Study y'all. Ask him questions or the ta. Effort is important. He's funny....sometimes
Pretty easy class. 3 Papers, 3 Exams. No need to purchase textbook, just make new accounts to access the 14 day trial for the textbook. No need to show up to class either, just read his power points, read all the chapters, and do the study guide before tests. I expected this class to be hard but it's really not, you just have to do the work!
3 exams, 3 essays. Textbook $75, ask students or use the free trial. Essays are really complex, and need to use reading + lecture notes. Attended lecture most of the time, didn't struggle too much. He is funny, mentions photo ID a lot and AI policy, no grammarly. Also he needs a toaster.
Great professor who makes his lectures interesting and engaging. The class concepts can be abstract, but he does an amazing job of clarifying them as the course progresses. He is truly caring and very open. If you do the reading and attend class regularly, you'll do great. He's really accommodating and provides excellent feedback.
I loved taking this class. Lectures aren't mandatory but they are very important if u want an A. He is extremely passionate when teaching and it makes lectures fun:) The only assignments are 3 essays/exams.. easy to do well if you take advantage of the lecture notes/slideshows and the study guides, pay attention to what he is saying too though
Wouldn't recommend unless you were actually studying political science, grades are mainly made up of exams (with lockdown browser & camera on) & to get most amount of points from the discussion post you will have to actually put in effort.
Poly sci is not one of my favorite subjects to learn, but I managed to pass Haesly's class with an A. Just read the textbook, show up to class if you can, and study your notes. In my opinion, the essays were a little more difficult than the exams, but the work is still manageable. He does mumble a lot, so it can be hard to hear him at times.
Professor Haesly is a funny and engaging lecturer, though he can sometimes ramble. The workload is manageable - 3 exams and 3 essays. The textbook is not strictly required, but using free trials or unstuckstudy can help. Attend lectures when you can, and the TAs are super helpful too.
This is one of those classes where if you like the subject you'll have a great time, but if you don't like it, it'll be awful for you. I enjoy POSC so I enjoyed his lectures. He does yap .. A LOT. You don't need the textbook and you don't have to go to every lecture just read all his PowerPoints and search some of the harder terms or concepts up.
Dr.Haesly is very funny, kind, and understanding.Very passionate of what he's teaching.People says he yaps but what he yaps about is actually important. This class is based fully on lectures. and textbook reading. He has a microphone but he holds it so far from his mouth, so it doesn't do much. Sit in the front if hard of hearing.Does not cold call.
If you're not a fast listener or fast note taker, don't take his class. He talks extremely fast and low at some moments, so it was hard to keep up with him. Don't listen to him; read the book. His class is well organized, as we only had 3 papers and 3 exams. He's very easy to communicate with; I just couldn't get adjusted to his teaching style.
I loved taking this class. 3 exams, 3 essays, & extra credit opportunities. He talks really quick and it can be hard to understand what he is saying sometimes because he mumbles. Most information can be found on the slides. I recommend you showing up to the lectures because he gives out answers and information that helps on the exams and essays.
Loved this class. Basically a hs gov review + some extra topics covered. Engaging lectures and he will give feedback to ur essay drafts. Show up to class, sit in the front, and do the essays and you'll get an A w/o the readings. Essays required no outside research so they were very manageable. Thorough study guides made exams easy. Take him!
Loved this class!! You definitely don't need the textbook to pass the class, just show up to lectures. If you go to class the tests are EASY. Very great Professor, makes lectures make sense. Good sense of humor and plenty of easy extra credit opportunities
3 tests, 3 papers, a couple ec opportunities. Mumbles sometimes but he got a mic so it was a bit better. Tests are pretty hard, read the book, do the quizzes and the practice test. 2 textbooks but I only bought one and did fine. There will be questions from both test books tho. He was pretty chill, didn't really care if u skipped bu
3 essays, 3 exams. He is strict with the essays and clearly states that he will give a 0 if any AI is used in the essays. The exams aren't so bad, the study guides are useful. I personally wouldn't take his class again though, lectures were pretty boring. Stays on one slide for 30 minutes.
3 essays, 3 tests. too much for a lower division class. he rambles and does the most for one slide. he's passionate about the subject and if you major in POSC, it's perfect for ya. however, if you're taking this class for the GE.. look again.
Honestly such a great prof, only 2 essays and 2 exams before the final exam. Although attendance isn't mandatory treat it if it was. Can easily pass by skimming the book readings if you just pay attention and take notes in class. Also can't stress enough, do the outside readings, they are on the exam, he'll tell you too. Extra credit opportunities!
Prof is very passionate and that makes class fun! Get ready to read a lot and do many disc posts. The amount of reading can be overwhelming so keep track of the material bc exams are based on your understanding of it. Prof is very understanding and communicative tho/ Youll do well if you show up, read the majority and try hard in the exams+ posts
Rich Haesly is a really good professor. He obviously loves the subject and he explains things very well. Although the lectures can be heavy and confusing, there are a lot of resources including textbook, slides, and notes that you can circle back to. That being said, the grade very heavily relies on exams which is scary. Just study hard!
Okay im not gonna lie i got a D in this class but that was mainly my fault, grade was based on the exams and lets just say i didnt study like i should have... He's very nice and passionate about what he teaches, if you take this class just make sure to study for exams and complete his assignments!!!
