He is very good isntructor, hard but very good

I think he is a good teacher. However from the description of the class you think it will be on diverstiy & discrimination and that is not the case. A lot is on History due to the fact that he was ahistory major. Overall I enjoyed the class and it was fairly easy.

Very interesting profesor, enjoyed his class most days.. however includes far too much of his personnel opinion in his lectures, jokes that I didn't find to be very funny...which I found interesting since this was a Diversity and Discrimination class... other than that he is a nice guy and can hold your attention for a 3 hour class

Schultz is great. He does use a lot of history in his lectures, but it is done so you can gain an understanding of the history of diversity and discrimination. Go to class, do your work, get an "A". He is also on of the few teachers who can keep a class interested for 3 hrs. Definitely in my top 3 at CSUSM.

Schultz lectures the entire class period, but I enjoyed his sarcasim. You are exspected to write the definitions of the key terms off the board because that is what the test is based from. There are about 4 or 5 papers and 1 group project. I thought this class was easy. He grades the midterm on a curve, but not the final.

Rich Schultz....best professor, by far! The class is very interesting and his humor will keep you motivated. Work load is manageable. I would definetly recomment him! I wish he were teaching more coarses at Cal State.

Rich Shultz is the best professor at CSUSM. His class was interesting and it allowed you to step out of your comfort zone. He spoke about history only to trace discrimination back to its roots so be patient. Workload is very manageable but you have to go to class. He is funny and his lectures are not boring. He will keep you interested.

Nice guy but Very sarcastic.Uses sarcasm on the tests as well which makes it hard to know what is meant to be sarcastic and what is not. Every class you miss knocks off 2.5% of your grade This becomes quite important. Other than that tests are terms learned in class, three 6 pg papers including 25 min presentation Funny guy though, and not too bad

Schultz is great. He is very sarcastic and I loved it, hilarious. Teaches sensitive subjects comfortably and humorously. Makes you thinkg and re-evaluate your thought process.

Schultz is an awesome Professor... The papers were great but could get kinda hard... all you really gotta do is pay attention in class, take good notes, and do a little bit of writting and you'll be fine.

very very funny! keeps lectures interesting with little stories. all you need to do is write key terms or trade with friends but does pass around atendance sheet. couple of papers and final is a group project of a group you pick (with group memebers) and research and present (i.e.: homeless people, LGBT..ect) so funny and his humor is sexy.

Funny sarcastic lectures, easy exams, easy essays, easy group project, highly recommended. I didn't get an A because I missed too many classes, yes he does take attendence.

Extremely helpful, intelligent, funny, and witty. The tests, essays, projects, etc. were really easy although he does keep track of attendance so show up. Also, he assigns a lot of reading from two books and other extra work, but you can get away with reading maybe half of it.

Great teacher! Very funny teacher which makes the class more open for discussion and keeps it entertaining. Very helpful and kind to the students when they need help. Only 2 tests which if you take notes they are easy, a few short essays and a group project. All in all i would highly recommend taking his class.

This class was SO easy! I wish all classes were like this! He gives you terms every class to write down and you have 1 midterm on the terms and the final is strictly on the terms too! You have 3 papers due (very easy) and 1 group project that is very simple! His class is semi-interesting but so easy it's worth the boring times!!

Rich is AMAZING. and SUPER hot!! His sense of humor is sexy too. This class is very easy, there is a lot of history but the topics are relative and interesting. 1 multiple choice midterm,1 final m.c. on the terms. 3 easy papers. He is so understanding and kind. I would recommend this class to ANYBODY. Reading the books was unnecessary, take ID340!!

I had the biggest crush on Rich, I refer to him as the Canadian House. His class is really intersting and very easy. Didn't read the books at all. Go to class, take notes on the terms and write the papers and you'll be fine. If you do the extra credit you may not even have to take the final.

Take this class, just take it! You learn so much about yourself and the world around you. Schultz is a good professor that teaches with sarcasm and wit. The readings are not necessary except for the first exam, but they are interesting to read. I wish all my instructors were like him.

Class was more demanding than expected. 4 papers and 1 big group presentation which is the hardest part of the class. He offers extra credit to make up for lost points. Workload can be overwhelming if you don't start assignments early. Overall a good class

Richard is a great teacher,I really enjoyed his class, howerver,he assigns so much work,you will be overwhelmed. 4 books to read,4 papers to write (3-4 pages),short articles to read also,and one group presentation(easy), 2 tests(curves the grades), offers extra credit(4 page paper to write for each extra credit).I gotta B+,but it was a lot of work.

There is a lot of work in this class but it's very rewarding work that has payoffs for students, not only in the realm of his class, & it's designed extremely well. He allows his students to explore their interests in terms of the class, & he knows how to nurture students positive qualities. To top it off he's super funny & lecture is entertaining.

Truely amazing teacher, one of the best at CSUSM. Really cares about students and subject matter and it shows. I don't think this class is easy, esp. if BRS is not your major but he explains in a way that makes it interesting and relatable. Take him but don't expect an easy A like others have claimed.

too many good things about rich. exams are based on the key words he goes through in class. papers are based on the text book. responds to e-mails later at night. he's very understanding about the fact that life sometimes gets in the way. he is very personable, his wit makes class entertaining and i think i developed a crush on him because of it.

Was the best teacher I have had so far. Do the work and readings and you will be able to easily pass the class especially with the few extra credit assignments he gives you. He is a great professor!I enjoyed the course so much, attendace is not mandatory but he does give extra points &participation.Half of the course is him teaching,with a lot of inclass discussions that make the class go by fast!The other half is the students presenting,the exams r not hard if you pay attention &attend class.The best professor so far!

Take him! You will not regret it. Easily the best professor I have had so far. He remembers your name and makes you feel like you matter. Do all the reading and take notes in class and you will be golden. The group presentation is the biggest part of your grade, pick a topic you are interested in and do your best with your group.

I actually looked forward to coming to class everyday. Active participation was not required. I sat there and just took in the lecture every class. Interesting material and a pretty funny professor. I'd recommend him but, the group project was a pain. Form a good group and present earlier than later.

This is by far one of my favorite Professors here at Cal State San Marcos. If you get the chance take him. There is a lot of reading- be prepared to read. Three short papers, 1 Group Project, one midterm and one final. Don't expect this class to be easy, he will make you work for your grade. I learned so much information and my life was changed

Just finished his course in HIST 109 at city, cannot say enough good things about this man! He absolutely loves the field and introduces great prospective. Ask him for extra reads, as he has some great bank of books in his mind. I found him to be easy, but more importantly as a future History professor,found his teaching method and feedback theBEST

The professor's lectures are long with a lot of terms. However, I went to all of the lectures and barely studied and received an A. There is a lot of reading, however, I did not complete all of it. He's a great professor who is funny and easy, however, show him respect and try in the class and that will earn you major cred and points with him.

I had Rich for 2 classes (BRS 330 and 453), had to come back to fulfill my upper G.E.s with him. He was an AWESOME professor! Really funny guy, laid back, easy to understand. There is reading involved, and his tests are based off those and the Key Terms he posts on the board so take good notes! If I could take him again I definitely would!

This professor is definitely one of the good ones. His lecture style is witty and entertaining. He doesn't hold back his own opinions, but he encourages students to engage and discuss without withholding theirs as well. There are a lot of assigned readings, however as long as you pay attention and are engaged you will likely do well. A+!

A great professor. Class has lots of reading and a group project. You need to pay attention to pass the class. You will have 3-4 papers plus a paper included with your group project but it's a simple paper for this one. It's a no-brainer to show up, listen, and write papers and you will pass.

I am so glad I took this course. Rich is a well rounded and wonderful professor. You will have three papers and a group presentation but my only advise is that you START EARLY and don't slack off. My group had the top presentation and grades in class. You will never be bored even if its a late class. Keep an open mind and you will do just fine.

This professor was great! Truly an inspiration. You have weekly forum posts, three papers, and a presentation but he gives specific instructions. He will also give you great fed back on why you got the grade you did. Highly recommend him. I did receive an A in the class but I completed all assignments and never missed class!

Prof. Schultz is hilarious! Although he has a bit of a twist when it comes to his lectures, they still make it worth coming to class every week. The reading assignments he assigned to help understand the multiple types of borders are very helpful to helping one understand the general outline of the class. I def recommend taking his class/course.

This class was wonderful if you have a passion for education and to be a teacher. Rich really made the class feel like a breeze and I hope to take him for other classes in the future. Easily one of my favorite professors I have had so far at CSUSM, he is very easy going and understanding. I enjoy going to classes to listen to his few lectures and stories. Barely any work, 3 essays which are easy as long as you follow the prompt, class discussion threads weekly, and one 20 min group presentation which is easier than you think!

Don't need to buy any books for the class. Just find quotes online for the essays. Less about content and more about your view of education. No quizzes, tests, final. He lectures, but no need to take notes. Treat this class as if you're finishing up HW from other classes. Easy class to get GE credit.

Most interesting professor. He has a different way of lecturing which always engages you. The topics we discuss are very significant to today's educational system and he does so in a way that we can learn from it as well as critique it. No tests, only papers of assigned readings. This professor cares about the students heavily and always makes you laugh. No tests just a few easy essays and group project. He writes an entire essay of feedback for every assignment and it feels very personal and rewarding. Boring subject and you do not have to pay attention to pass.

Rich was absolutely phenomenal. As a future educator, I felt this class prepared me for what is to come. Be prepared to read and write. He gives amazing feedback, and he's always available if you need help. I absolutely recommend this class, but don't be fooled... it's not an easy A. You have to put in consistent effort to do well.

This is my second time taking him. I love him! He makes class very fun and inviting. He does expect you to speak up and participate but its not a big deal. He just wants you to make conversation. He's very easy to talk to, just let him know if you need help. I 100% highly recommend him for any class he teaches.

Prof. Schultz was awesome! It was my first semester at CSUSM and he made a very warm welcome. I am trying to take Prof. Schultz in the future as well. Only heads up is that there are a reasonable amount of papers and some group projects but you have enough time and they are very clear.

The comments I received on my essays were valued greatly. I appreciated that he took the time to give pointers and offer insight into why the essays did and did not mesh well. Great lecturer, funny dude, and if I wasn't going into my last semester-- I would have DEFINITELY taken him again for another course. He is a real gem & extremely well-liked.

He is such a great professor and truly cares about his students. Each week, there is a short discussion post due. Three essays within the whole semester but they are not hard at all. One "big" group project but it is not bad at all, just be informative and you'll do just fine.

His class was very informational each lecture you learn something new. There are 3 books that you need for the class but you can find them all online. The group project is something that is easy depending on your partners but he will understand if your partner/s are not cooperative. Don't be afraid to ask him something because he will be helpful.

I took his Liberal Studies class last semester and I will always remember him. He was a very upfront, inspirational teacher that was there for all of his students. We only had to purchase three books, but they are not expensive at all. Not much homework at all and notes during lectures are not mandatory. I highly recommend this teacher!!

He keeps students engaged during his lectures through great discussions and allows students to share their views and opinions on the topic at hand. Look, I've taken this professor before and I can't tell you how amazing of a guy he is. One of the most caring and amazing teachers I think I've ever had. If you are a close-minded individual, don't take the class. He does not assign any tests, but he requires about 3-5 essay a semester but the prompts are very easy (he gives A LOT of feedback).

He is probably one of the most engaging teachers I have ever had. He is very passionate about the subjects that he teaches. He talks to us as equals and asks us questions about what we think accordingly. He gives excellent constructive analysis of our papers and no exams. He is also very funny which makes a three hour class go by pretty quickly.

Amazing dude. He cares about what he is talking about, and is great at responding to emails, but his grading criteria is tough. The whole class is only worth 100 PTS. One mediocre grade on a paper ensured i would never be above a B. First 8 weeks are spent watching lectures and 5 whole weeks are just designated towards our school problem project.

My favorite professor so far. He is not tough on grading so it is easy to pass his class. No exams or finals but he assigns 3 essays and a group presentation throughout the semester. He shows that he truly cares for his students and has a passion for what he does. Gives back so much helpful feedback which is always a plus!

Never before in my abysmal academic career have I encountered a professor so nestled in his love for what he teaches (in conjunction with the miles-long detailed and supportive feedback--as in he actually reads our material and, however crap, offers in-depth commentary). Love him.

This professor is hands down one of the best professors you will probably ever have in your college career. Very understanding, knows his stuff, and can guide you through some of the more challenging topics. Lectures are entertaining, and to be honest, whichever class you choose that he teaches, take it, you will not regret it.

This is a man that loves his job. Chill and understanding - he is one of those professors that knows you have a life outside of his class. Big on participation which is why attendance is graded. No tests (no final, no midterm) but there are a few five page papers, weekly discussion posts, and one big group presentation.

Entertaining and super funny dude, easygoing professor. Interesting lectures and you can learn a lot from him. His class isn't hard but you'll be reading a lot. Only problem I have with his class is the outrageous attendance policy and scoring rubric. You can theoretically go to 2/3 of classes and come out with a 0 on attendance score.

Essays and discussion boards make up the meat of the class. Essay content mainly comes from the readings, but don't miss class so you don't miss attendance points. Put a lot of effort into discussion board posts and don't miss those for the same reason. A few missing points can make a big difference in your grade.

This is my third time taking a class with Rich and I could never not recommend him. Rich is absolutely hilarious and loves to crack jokes. There is lots of readings which are needed to do in order to complete the weekly discussions and essays, but it is extremely do-able and is not overwhelming. Professor Rich makes the class engaged with the topics that he talks about and he makes the class laugh. In his class there is no test or quiz's just two papers and many discission boards. Also in this class there is a fun group project which I enjoyed. If you have not taken his class you should becuase it's a great and fun class to take.

Really struggling at 5, because this guy deserves more. Rich Schultz is the GOAT. He's super funny, very accessible outside of class and the in class lectures never get old. It's super engaging and interesting. Had three classes with him, and I think everyone should at least take one, whether it's as an elective or required. You'll thank me later.

Seriously one of the best profs I've had. I was there when my classmate thoroughly mangled him and the rest of class with a spongebob toilet meme on 1/30. 100% take Rich for any class!!

This professor is very funny and he likes to engage with the students in his class. The professor lectures for this class was very interesting to learn about. I would strongly recommend this professor becuase in this class there are no exams just three papers which not hard as along you follow the directions and the prompt.

One of my favorite professors ever. Took this class as an upper level GE and am so glad that I did. Dude is hilarious, well spoken, and traveled. Super passionate for his subject, and inspires it in others. 1 major group project and a few papers, no big deal. Would absolutely take a class of his again

Professor Shultz was genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. He cares about all of his students and is super easy to get in contact with. Attendance is mandatory but that's the strictest thing about him. No tests or exams just a big group project and papers. I've had him for 2 courses and I would take him for many more if I could!!

Professor Schultz is amazing! His teaching style is engaging, and you can tell that he genuinely cares for his students and wants the best for them. We had about three papers and some group presentations. The papers were based on assigned readings but were easy to complete. The presentations were easy too. I definitely recommend his class!

Since day one, Prof. Schultz has been the funniest, kindest, and best professor at CSUSM (that I have taken). No tests or exams, just one group presentation that he makes very interesting for the whole class. Attendance is mandatory, but I wish it was longer sometimes when I am there because of how funny and interactive he makes his lectures.

I loved his class. If LBST 300, there are two group projects/presentations. One being a 1 hour lecture lead by you and your group. The other is 20 min research presentation. Attendance is mandatory so make sure you show up for class. Overall, Rich is hilarious and his lectures are so enjoyable, take him!

Rich is a hilarious professor, he gives great lectures, and really just has fun with his class and students. Assignments are weekly discussion boards, two essays, and one group project. Attendance is mandatory, but he's also understanding if you have to miss class for a valid reason. I really enjoyed my time in his classroom.

PLEASE TAKE HIM! Super easy class. He is so funny and makes class really enjoyable. One group project that will go on until the end of the semester. A few essays, but they are really easy and is an easy grader. Attendance does matter because you will be graded at the end. Such a good teacher taking another class with him next semester.
