Very mind open class for someone who actually wants to learn

I dont know if its the nature of sociology or of this teacher, but he basicly teaches the extreme leftist party line. If you want to learn about society, take economics. Its far more objective and useful. If you want an indocrination, take Wood.

He is a very bright teacher! There are no homework just tests and discussion groups. Take notes, lots of them! If you major in Sociology, take him he knows his material!

One of the most intelligent people you'll probably ever come across. People outside of his class come in and sit on the ground and stand by the door because there is no room just to hear him speak. Extremely easy as far as work. We can learn alot fr him!

Good teacher with lots to say and rant about. From a personality standpoint he's a caring man who believs in his students and will be there for them anytime. He covers a lot of material and the reading assignments are pretty long.

Excellent teacher! I love his classes, everyone is so involved, but everyone's opinion matters. Tests are two essays, and one paper at the end. I highly recommend this teacher. He made sociology so interesting and he's a great guy.

I enjoyed his class quite a bit. He is laid back and easy to talk to. His tests are not easy though, you really have to pay attention to his lectures as well. I must say that he is quite liberal and tells you that from the beg. He makes his students feel comfortable in the classroom to speak their minds and share their opinions. I think he's cool.

Rich Wood will turn you on to lots of things you never knew about before; he believes in justice, human rights and egalitarian principles. i was really nervous my first day cuz i joined his class for units at the last minute not knowing it was a politcal class. when i told him about the mistake he was assuring i would like his calss..so i stayed and evry week this his calkss is the only calss i look forward to attending.

Didn't know what to expect and ended up being very interested. I learned a lot from the class and most of all, it inspired me to keep up with what is taking place in the world that is outside of my small community. I recommend him.

yeah I do agree he is great in the class but he's a totally different person when it comes to grading our essays.

Everything he's hyped up to be: I've learned a lot and love coming to class. He actually had everyone with a C or lower on the exam raise their grade through an additional session, so I don't get why the person below me is so riled up. Lots of extra credits. Never miss a class, as there's always notes. Uses a lot of neat videos. Very enthusiastic.

wood is pretty cool, i mean, u will see stuff in his class u wont see elsewhere! its a bit political for my taste, but i did end up enjoying the class. the midterm is hard, the research paper, presentation and final are time consuming as hell! u really do NEED TO COME TO CLASS and read. hes more biased than wants to admit, i agree. but i got an A.

One of the hardest classes I have taken but VERY REWARDING. Rich Wood is an awesome teacher who promotes student activism and allows your voice to be heard. We did have a lot of discussions and he is very open and will help you in any way possible. Take him!

His classes are not only engaging and enlightening but easy to earn A's in; he gives lots of opportunities for EC and making up poor grades on exams and essays. Do not believe the negative comments; he is respectful of all opinions and students (not just liberal/left ones) & he teaches facts rather than indoctrinates or brainwashes.

Great professor, very passionate about the subject. He gives out enough extra credit that anyone can get an A no matter how badly they screwed up on anything else. Uses a lot of handouts and a few books, there is heavy reading involved. There is a research paper and 2 essay-based tests. Take this class if you have any interest in globalization!

really knows A LOT!~~ very friendly& helpful! other than the 10 pgs research paper & 2 relatively hard essay exams(u can redo the first exam to raise ur grade),everything is sooooo fun!!~~ I really got interested in globalization and world econ. after i took his class. Rich is a cool guy who knows his material well & teaches in a clear, interesting manner. The class is an easy A if you take & study good notes; he even lets you make-up the midterm or re-do the paper for a higher grade! True, he holds strong liberal views, but he's not a prick about them; even my conservative friends liked him and his classes.

Wow, that class was amazing. It is a lot of work though, we had 4 books to read, 3 mandatory and 1 of ur choice for research paper. 1 midterm, 1 presentation,a 10 pg (15 if u r Honors) research paper, and long take home final that requires a lot of research,keep up with readings to make it. U'll learn a lot, that may change ur life. :)

He knows his materials very, very well. He treats his students with respect and is willing to help. You must do your reading to pass the class. Awesome, interesting classes! Radical leftist, but I don't see why that's a problem. Right-wing teachers push their beliefs onto students every day. Good to have someone on the opposite side. Grades fairly. We argued all the time and I never got less than and A. If you have critical thinking to back up opinions he will not care if you disagree.

definitely one of the more difficult classes i've taken. a lot of reading and material to cover, but the topics are critical/important in today's world. very passionate about the subject matter and he's always willing to help and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Fun, challenging class. He's a radical leftist, but he means well. He respects his students and encourages discussion. Classes are long but lively since many people tend to participate. He is the most helpful history teacher I have ever had.

Best instructor that I have had at De Anza.  He is a very approachable guy always willing to answer questions and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he’s teaching.  A LOT of reading a writing required, however, he is NOT a tuff grader at all.  If you study and do the work easy A.

Rich is by far one of the greatest people I have ever met! He is so passionate about what he teaches and is a friend to his students. He's a great guy to talk to as he has such an amazing outlook on life. He has travelled and been a part of many of the communities he teaches about in both his Religion and Globalization classes.

hands down, the most amazing and life changing teacher i have had. a friend and a mentor, i learned more from rich than any other human being aside from my parents and my daughter. the only teacher i've ever experienced, or speaker for that matter, that never said, 'any questions?'. he naturally sparked discussion that was passionate! thank you!
