He is a wonderful teacher! Explains the same problem more then one way so you can find which way works best for you. He offers some extra credit that is well worth doing & the best part was, it wasn't math realated! His test reviews are EXACTLY the same type that will be on the test. Attendance not counted, and grade is solely on test and final
Great instructor! Very helpful! Easy to understand and prepare's well for final exam! Lots of extra credit opportunities
He a good teacher. As long as you ask ?'s he will take as long as it takes to answer it. He helps prepare you for test and gives you outside class assignments to better your grade (such as tutoring s lower level of math), which helps you a great deal to have a better understanding of what he is teaching you.
Professor Roper is very relaxed except he can be a bit negative at times. He teaches well, do not give points for homework, which I think is not good for the student. He sometimes move around in circle & at times get off topic. Given all that he is very good with the students, always available to help when it is needed & a great teaching style.
Anyone who doesn't like this teacher doesn't know what they are talking about. This guy is one hell of a Math Teacher. A+++
Best Math Teacher I have ever had. If you care to ask, you will get very clear answers to your questions. Good use of humor. Best Math Teacher I have ever had.
Good Teacher. Test Reviews were exactly like the tests, which was great. Final was EASY!
Very good teacher.
Richard was such a better math teacher than the teacher I had last semester. He explained everything with understandable explanations. I would love to have him again next semester or next time I take a math class.
very nice guy. I enjoyed his teaching style and learned from all of his examples. Couldn't have been a better teacher.
i suck at math, what can I say. But he was a pretty good teacher. He assigned no homework which was awesome and he explained the math well.
Best teacher I ever had for a math class.
He covers most things well, but not everything so you will have to spend time out of class to understand some of the math.
VERY hard to learn from.
Mr. Roper is a great teacher! If you have a hard time understanding math, i would definately suggest taking his class.
Mr. Roper is a good teacher. He is very helpful to students with disabuilitys and to everyone else also. He is willing to take the time out of his day to help in any way possable. He sometimes gets on other topics not related, but over all pretty clear. I would recommend him to anyone who struggles in math.
Overall Roper is a good teacher. Very helpful to all those that need it and would ask. Explains topics thoroughly because not all students will ask. Could not always stay focused: he keeps a low monotone voice that puts you close to sleep. Still a very effective teacher, and extremely helpful. Thanx Roper!
Mr. Roper was extremely helpful and interested in seeing us succeed. He is very fair. I only wish I were taking 1050 so I could have him again. He is one of the better math teachers I've had.
Towards the end of the semester I preferred to teach myself out of the book instead of attending class. I'm a fast learner and not a patient person and his teaching drags at times. He does get his point across to the students and makes every attempt to help them understand where the problem could go wrong. Good for students who need extra guidance.
I really enjoyed being in Professor Ropers class. He was very helpful and made math much easier for me to understand.
He is a good teacher if you are good in math. However, if you have a hard time in math like myself I don't think I would have passed if I had not already had the corse before.
I don't think that I have ever had a professor work so hard to make sure the student succeeds. Sure the material was kind of boring sometimes, but it was statistics. I would take another class from him any day.
Richard's class is the only way to go for statistics. He gives clear understandable lectures that translate smoothly over to his tests. He is also extremely easy to work with and down to earth. He is a genuinely nice guy!
this teacher i was really impressed with. i took a stats class from him and math is not my thing. he met with me before class for an hour every week, and sometimes on the weekends because he cared to help me pass. if you are willing to push yourself and put work in if you dont understand, he is willing to help. AWESOME teacher highly recommended!
The professor was good. But if you did not spend several hours on the homework and possibility visit the lab there is not way to get an A - unless you have a brain for math. You will spend at least 12 hours a week on just homework for this class.
If you have a hard time with math I suggest taking your class from him. He was always welling to help his students learn and understand the material. Extra help was given berfore class and on the weekends, if the student was will to put in the work. I think he is exceptional.
So easy going, and easy to understand each class, He shows is prepared for the task of the day.
Richard is one of the most dedicated and helpful instructors I have ever met.
Richard was one of the best teachers I have had at SLCC. He was really good at explaining the concepts and relating them to real world situations.
The best statistics techer on campus. He likes to make sure the material is understood well before proceeding to new sections.
Don't not take from this guy. He has an hour class and he will try to tell you everything you will need in the last 10 minutes! Read the book and you have a chance.
He likes to explain things "his way" and not the way the book teaches which is what you need to know. This class is super easy though so I just would read from the book and help myself. I would just go to class to do quizzes. He gives really really easy tests though.
Helpful, willing to go the extra step to stay after and help you understand. Attendance not required, but spot quizzes are added to your grade. Reviews were thorough, and homework not graded but essential to understanding material.
Helpful, made math very understandable, really good teacher
The class was not that hard and Mr Roper was always very helpful and willing to go over anything we learned. He was very straightforward with telling us the expectations for the course and the material on which we would be graded. He made himself as available as possible including holding and extra 2nd lecture for revision to prepare for the final.
Very nice guy.
Great teacher, easy to get along with and very caring. He was very helpful and was available every day after to class for extra help. I will take classes from him again.
Very nice and willing to stay after to help. this teacher although has absolutely no methodology to his teaching. expects you to struggle through homework before he teaches the concepts. He always skipped steps which made it so difficult to understand. There are no second chances, no make up tests, which is unheard of in math. NOT RECOMENDED!
Prof Roper knows his Math. Great at explaining any questions the class had. Tests aren't too bad. But you do still need to do your work to get a good grade.
I would not recommend taking 1050 from him. Although he is easy in some aspects, he is a terrible teacher. He often would start a homework problem assigned, get half way through, not know what to do and stop. How can he expect us to get the problem right if he can't even finish it.
Rich is a good teacher. It was sometimes difficult with a 50 minute class to cover all the material, and we usually didn't finish...but what he taught was well understood. He genuinely cares about your understanding of the subject and your grade and will help you when needed. His tests are easy, but the department final was VERY hard.
AAAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++
I had to withdraw from the class for other reasons but I really enjoyed his teaching and his ability to stay on schedule. I believe he has only been teaching for a few years. So I can only imagine he will get even better with time. I would take him again if i could.
Best math instructor I have had in years. It takes about a week for him to see where the class is, but then tailors his lessons to the level the current students are at. He seems boring at first, but is an excellent instructor. Homework wasn't bad, either.
Mr. Roper is great! He is so helpful and concerned that you understand the material. He offers help and additional tools to help you as much as possible. If you struggle with Math...Mr. Roper is the guy for you!
One of the best professors I have ever had. He gets a feel for the class and teaches accordingly. He is genuinely concerned that you understand the material. He is like having your own personal tutor!
Rich is a very fair and reasonable prof. Math 1050 has been the most demanding class I've taken to date. Rich was always willing to stay after class to help students with problems. He went over all the material that we seen on the exams and I would take another class from him again.
This class was very difficult for me, but I made it thanks to Rich's teaching skills and using some of the online resources he made available. Great teacher.
Richard Roper is an amazing teacher! If you go and pay attention you will succeed! Take this class!
Great teacher and wants you to be able to do your best. Was bending over backwards to make extra study sessions for final. Just be sure to ask for specific questions on homework ?'s and he will go over them in class.
Great instructor!! Super funny and kept the class really light. Would highly recommend taking a class from him.
Very friendly, helpful professor. Wants students to succeed and takes plenty of time answering questions in an non-intimidating classroom setting. He does require group projects, which can be a pain... but are doable. Overall he's a great professor! I'll be taking him again!
Sticks by the department rules, will give you a "D" in the class if you get a 60% or lower on the final even if you earn a higher grade. Many students who had a "B" grade were given a "D".
Rich is a great instructor. If I had another math class to take, or if I hadn't passed this class, I'd take it from Rich. Trust me, you won't go wrong if you take his class!
Great, helpful teacher. The beginning was a little bit confusing as far as the style of teaching. He provides extra credit opportunity. His exams are based on what you learn from the book.
Rich is a good guy. Hard to understand at times because he gets stuck on tangents. He was VERY generous with extra credit. Don't blame him for following department standard on the Final . If you fail, you will get a D or less. I did, and I am happy I passed at least. This wasn't his fault.
Rich was extremely helpful. He answered EVERYONE's questions so that we would know how TO or how NOT to do something! Stuck to the college guidlines. I really enjoyed his silly jokes!
Rich is a fantastic prof. the best math teacher I have ever had. He will stay and help you with any questions you have, and he came in on a friday night for a study group on his own time. Offers extra credit. HIGHLY recommended!!!
I don't know about the other comments, but for me he was a horrible teacher. He barely went over the work we had to do, and it felt like he was trying to speed the class along by giving us three to four sections of homework a night, and having a exam every two weeks. If you struggle with math, I don't recommend him as a teacher.
Nicest guy in the world. Moves a little slow, but really cares about the students. He doesn't require homework which is nice because the material is very easy compared to other math classes and the homework would mostly be busy work. Spent very very little time out of the classroom studying and still got an A. He gives extra credit too. Super nice!
Really liked his class. I wasn't sure at first because he mostly just follows the textbook, but he reviewed each concept and explains things pretty good. He prepared you for the tests by doing reviews and the exams were similar to the reviews. Planning to take 1040 from him as well.
Was very helpful and made math interesting! 100% recommend him! Better teacher than any of my high school math teachers! Do all extra credit and get an A! STUDY! Tests ARE hard!
Amazing math teacher, and that is rare! He will spend as much time with you one on one, even at another location than the classroom. He is so helpful and easy to understand! Take HIM!
Had this guy for Stats- big mistake. We had to teach ourselves everything. The lectures are useless and he worked the wrong formulas and routinely got wrong answers while teaching.
If math isn't your strong point, and you don't want to teach yourself- i suggest you not take him as a professor. Our class had 40 people in it and all but 7 dropped out at the end. The homework wasnt fair, he gave us 3 term projects (other classes only had to do 1) and the material that was on the test was NOTHING like the homework.
He is a beginner in math 1040. Give him a few years and he'll get it together. (I hope). method for teaching math 1040 not good. classroom subjects did not match homework. youtube taught me most of it.
This instructor seems to engage the men, but when a woman pops up with the answer he disregards until a man gives the answer. This became a joking point for the men. The instructor just brushes on the process and does not give much time to learn the "why's". If you need lots of help with math, probably find another instructor.
Rich is very lenient on the tests and homework. He is very confusing. I had to teach myself out of the book because I didn't learn from his lectures. He gets very distracted and off subject. He spends too much time reviewing from the last chapter and then tries to shove a whole chapter of information down your throat the last 10 minutes of class.
I had Richard Roper for stats and he was one of the worst teachers. He often talked to the board or the floor. His example work on the board is all over the place and hard to read. I think he might be new at teaching stats he often questions himself if he is doing it right. This class was a big struggle and I suggest taking a different teacher.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! Doesn't teach, not clear, very rude, mumbles & very confusing! His work on the board is messy! The time is NOT used wisely at all! He stays on 1 detail for most the class & then tries to cram the rest in, the last 10 mins. Never gives you feedback. Going to class was a waste of time, don't learn anything! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Professor Richard Roper is by far one of the greatest teachers I ave had. He spelled out class guidelines, meticulously helped us with homework problems, and helped us prepare for the exams. He was fair but he was there to help if struggling. Very polite and easy to understand his way of teaching. If you put in the work, you will do well.
Richard is a great teacher and a very fair professor. Explanations and expectations were always very clear and descriptive. Any student that applies him/herself and does everything possible to succeed will pass this class and enjoy this class (as much as you can enjoy math). Richard is very personal and open to help! Great teacher!
Mr. Roper was a great teacher. I took 1010 from him in the summer semester. He was extremely helpful with everything. He is very clear about what you will need to know on the final. It's one of those classes where if you put in some work you'll do great. I'd take another math class from him in a heartbeat.
Awesome teacher. I genuinely felt like he wanted his students to succeed, and I feel like that's rare. He was very helpful and clear on what he expected. He is very organized with canvas and upcoming homework, quizzes, etc. I never felt like I was in the dark. I am very impressed, I love that I felt prepared for tests. I highly recommend him.
I don't recommend him for intro to statistics. I am not saying this because I got a bad grade, I got a B. A lot of class time is wasted on stupid games and group work. It was difficult to learn properly with so little help. I feel I would have done much better in this class if I had found a different teacher.
He seems like he is new to it and doesn't fully know how to teach it. He is unclear about his group projects and their instructions. When you ask him questions he spins you in a circle with a round about answer. He frequently "ignores" students calling out an answer but he just didn't hear them and it gets a little annoying. Nice guy though...
I love all math but Richard needs a plan. Shows up and dilly dallys for an hour then crams a bunch of stuff in the end. Doesn't go over homework. Spends the whole period on one problem. Nice guy but I don't think he should teach stats. Has a strange testing style. Get ready to teach yourself.
A lot of students complain that Mr. Roper is not clear with his lectures, but if you do the reading before class like he asks and maybe a few homework problems then the information makes sense. I feel like he really prepares you well for the chapter tests which make up most of your grade. He always answered my Emails when I had questions.
Very intelligent, great teacher to understand, walks through a variety of different problems that he feels might trick you on a ExamFinal. My Math lab has way to much homework for me and I think its a waist of time. He is fair on grading you, and he is there to help. Also he does prepare you for Exams and the Final pretty well.
Mr. Roper was a very helpful teacher, that would always help you with whatever you need. Every time we had a test, he would come in on his own time to provide a tutoring sessions for who ever could attend. His teaching gets frustrating at times, but he is willing to explain anything over to help you understand. He wants his students to succeed!
Worst. Teacher. Ever. Doesn't even teach you more like skims through everything. I don't learn that way and cause of this teacher I was lost and was doing tutoring for this class.
As I took this class I found myself needing to get extra help outside of class. He is willing to explain more in class but expects you to pick up most of the material on your own in your book. He is a great teacher and expects a lot out of you. Not a class you can just float by with.
He is really a nice guy but not a nice instructor, he doesn't know how to provide the concept to students. He was willing to help all the time, but he doesn't know how. I learned through youtube mostly. He gives extra credit though. He doesn't care about homeworks. He does test reviews too. He is fair in grading. Take him if you are good youtubing
I gave him a 2 instead of a 1 because he's so nice. Unfortunately, he's a terrible teacher. He murmurs and trails off when he's explaining concepts. He has you do way too many group projects (outside of class). His quizzes and test preps are riddled with mistakes and you have to email him to let him know. To end on a positive note, he's punctual.
He is the most amazing person you will ever meet. He is always willing to help, he will meet you outside of class, he will accommodate you as much as he can. This class is so hard and you absolutely need to focus on it in order to pass. He will grade you on the greatest curve you will ever see.
This was for Math 1090 (business stats). Rich was one of the better Math teachers I've had at SLCC! He's a down to earth guy that really cares about the success of his students. He always came to class prepared with what he wanted to go over, instead of other teachers that wing it using the textbook. Tests were weighted heavily so studying is key!
