Usually lets out class early. Started off doing power point lectures, but now does more of a discussion-type lecture that engages everyone in conversation. Has game days and quizzes every week, but they just go over what we learned in lecture. Funny guy and gives a lot of extra credit.
Great prof! Class consists of weekly short questions and a quiz , game days and movie days , lectures may be a bit confusingly to take notes but overall gets the points across , would definitely take again!
He was very laid back and cool. Lectures would be somewhat strange because there was no powerpoint, more dialogue. Tests were easy as long as you read enough in the books (2). Weekly quizzes, short questions help make the grade, so don't miss any! He did give lots of extra credit! We had movie and game days, which was a plus!
extra credit points for game days and random class polls. interesting class, study and you'll do fine
Although attendance is not mandatory, a lot of extra credit is given out in class for games or even just showing up. Not very many tests but weekly mini-quizzes and questions. Very knowledgeable and that comes across in his lectures. Study and you can easily make a B.
Abel was an okay professor, starting out with engaging lectures followed up with games but ended up giving up once students stopped attending because the class wasn't mandatory. He was a decent teacher but most of the test information came straight from the books, not necessarily what he said, so the class was basically "read a book get an A"
Abel is very casual and often his lectures are just him reading from a piece of paper, no slides or anything. This class is not super hard, but his exams can be tricky and are based on the application of terms and theories.
he did give extra credit but this class is not worth it. many people dropped after the first exam because very few passed. exams were all too difficult with way too much studying involved for an elective class. went too fast in class for anyone to take notes. take another prof if you can!! overall the information is interesting, just bad teaching.
Lectures are boring. He wont put the important information on the board so we asked him to repeat it 100 times. Doesnt post slides and doesnt like it when you take pictures of the slides (they barely have info on them) If he has nothing to lecure on, we just watch movies (quizzes), says we dont have a review because this is a junior level class
Prof was weird. Random attendance for 20% of the grade, and would strategically take attendance when not as many people showed up. Showed movies in class a lot. Extra credit available. Lectures are stupidly fast, group paper of 8-10 pages. He seems nice enough, but the class is more of a hassle than it should be. Hard to tell what the exams cover
It's described as "Theoretical Criminology" but is rather "Debunked Wokeism 101". He literally quoted a theory stating that "Crime will happen in every society" then a few classes later claimed that "If a country becomes marxist, crime will be reduced or cease completely." Say no to this clown if you're not in the mood for a good brainwashing.
The class really is not that hard. However, you'll do better if you read the chapters before class. Lectures come straight from the book verbatim. Attendance is taken randomly so just show up. His lectures go fast without slides so be prepared to take notes fast. There's one group project with an 8-10 page paper but it's not too hard at all.
Loved Dr. Abel's class! I would recommend reading the chapters before class as he talks very fast, but all of his information comes from the books. Includes game days for extra credit and movie days that are interesting. The exams aren't too difficult and his lectures include great discussion. Definitely recommend taking this course!
Dr. Abel was my sociology of deviance professor and I really enjoyed the material but, I am a visual learner and had a REALLY difficult time following along with lectures because the majority were only verbal. We had one group paper, 3 exams including the final, and a quiz almost every Friday. The exams were a bit difficult to know what to study.
Dr. Abel, soci211, was an okay professor. The class consist of 3 exam, noncumulative. Some questions on the exam come from game day which is every Friday. Attendance is graded, randomly, and is worth 20%. One group project and paper, 8-10 pages, very easy gives examples on how he wants the essay, you can pick your group too. Heavy lecture class!
I really liked Abel, but I see several complaints. He goes fast, but just ask him to go back. Pop quizzes are easy if you read the chapter. Idk why someone said you cant take pics of slides bc I took a pic of every slide. He created a document for everyone to share notes/questions. You make practice exam questions and he gives EC if he likes it.
Bad class. All he did was read the PowerPoint slides. Studying for the last exam was a nightmare, I had to read 7 chapters for an exam, which means hundreds of pages. Hated it. I dont recommend
My only issue with him was that he did not show powerpoint slides throughout his lectures, meaning he just spoke to the class with no visual help. His lectures can be hard to understand because he uses very word-heavy definitions. The group essay was easy and received a good grade. Not a work-heavy class. Takes attendance randomly.
Lectures are straight from the books, which is good considering he lectures like he's running a 40 and acts like giving us his PowerPoint is the most inconvenient thing ever Let us take pics of the slide but only put half the information up which resulted in us asking him to repeat stuff constantly Tests over 100s of tbook pages(gross)
Dr. Abel is such a chill guy! He does expect you to read the textbook and participate in class discussion. Lectures from textbook basically word for word. Attendance isnt technically mandatory but he does random attendance quiz/extra credit quiz. 3 exams and 1 group project - exams are pretty straight forward. Dont be super lazy and youre good!
Dr. Abel is a pretty cool guy. The tests were decently hard, but there was always opportunities for extra credit or a curve. You absolutely need to read the book and to study - he will not give you any grades. Random pop quizzes, so attendance is pretty much mandatory. Lectures can be pretty slow, but often have really good discussion.
Take this professor! He assigns workshops each week but they are super easy to do just take time. I will be honest I never paid attention in class and still got an A on every exam because as long as you study the vocab terms you will be fine on exams. He offers extra credit if you volunteer somewhere.
I'm writing this review for when I took him last semester. When I took him, there were only exams for his class. Now, I hear it's different so maybe that will be better. Usually I feel as though you get to know a professor and can predict what they are looking for on exams, but him I never knew.
He wasn't a bad prof at all class was pretty interesting. no final for my class just three tests over chapters in the textbook and you don't have to read the textbook heavily. there are 9 essays he assigns but they're all easy. he does take attendance quizzes randomly. Also gives a lot of opportunities to boost your grade so making an A isn't hard
Abel was overall a pretty good professor. There are a lot of assigned readings from the textbook and from outside articles, each test over a certain amount of chapters and the articles. What I did was study/memorize all the terms and then get the general gist of the other readings through the abstract, and it worked for me. Solid prof.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He lacks any effort to care about the class. One time he showed up to class to put on movie, told us it would be on the test, and went to being on his phone. none of the movie was even on the test. His tests are overly difficult, and extra credit takes so many hours to earn for barely any. No other assignments to help.
Dr. Abel's 205 class was well-structured but it was a lot of work. Be sure to read the textbook and sage readings because he'll ask about those on quizzes and tests. You'll have to do workshops as your homework which are interesting but time-consuming. Don't take this class as a blow-off or if your schedule is loaded. Overall I enjoyed it though!
I loved the material taught in this class and it is pretty much an easy A if you are studying for the exams and completing the HW/quizzes on time. proff Abel is also pretty flexible with due dates and pushes them back if needed. Be aware that the data workshops are due weekly and are 1-3 page papers.
Dr. Abel is a great professor. His lectures include lots of in class discussion and helps a lot with understanding the subject (and most of the time it was funny too). He did not give out lecture slides/recordings, but just go to class. He does random attendance checks as well for credit. He was very flexible with due dates on Workshops as well. :)
he takes attendance randomly. his lectures are very helpful (and he's also pretty funny), but he doesn't put the slides online after class. the essays/workshops he assigns can be time consuming, but other than that they are pretty easy. make sure to do the sage readings, they always show up on the exams
He's just annoying. He reads straight off of slides that are copied out of the book but gives pop attendance quizzes so you have to go. Tests are fine but you do have to read all assigned texts to do well. Weekly data workshops are time consuming but not super difficult.
Lectures were interesting and he is a knowledgeable professor, but attendance is mandatory and there are 9 essays you have to write. He will randomly take attendance quizzes (in total worth almost as much as an exam grade) so make sure you go to class. The workshop essays also take up a bunch of your time. But overall it's pretty easy to get an A
He assigned a paper almost every week. Good guy but very difficult work load if its not your major. Unless you want the challenge of a this class for your liberal arts degree FIND ANOTHER CLASS. Its not worth the work, and is very hard to get and A.
Overall a pretty average prof. He didn't do anything too bad, but nothing too great either. If I had tried harder I could have gotten an A. Take him to get your perquisites out of the way, but don't expect anything too special.
His lectures extremely fast so you will never get all of the info, he basically makes it so that you have to teach yourself by reading the textbook word for word which is hard and time consuming. I've never had to drop a class but bc his teaching style is basically just throwing a lot of random info at you I had to. Hard to know whats on quizzes.
Dr. Abel covers a lot of material during the lectures and attendance is mandatory. He does not post the material that he covers in class so it is very important to attend. Test material is pulled from his lecture slides, the textbook, and sage readings. A lot of reading necessary in this course. Not a bad professor. A is attainable.
There are a lot of grades in this class which helps a lot. Do not procrastinate, especially on the papers. You have to read the textbook beforehand so that you can keep up in lecture, sometimes he will throw information not from the textbook in there (and it will be tested). Lots of reading but he has very clear outlines that help a lot with notes.
I see a lot of neg reviews about Abel and not giving him enough credit. He wants the class to discuss the book topics and will make you think outside the box. Read the textbook & extra reading before class and you are fine. He will answer any question you have or go back on slides if needed. Just ask questions & put the work in & you'll be fine.
Terrible professor questionable guy
He takes attendance randomly and it is a large part of your grade so you actually have to go to class. He gives quizzes every week that open on Friday afternoons and close Saturday mornings that aren't always even from the lectures. Also flies through the slides and doesn't post them online. The exams are also really hard. Don't take this class.
DO NOT TAKE!He does not care about his students and clearly does not want to be in the classroom. He flies through his powerpoint slides so fast you cannot get down the information, he does not post them anywhere, and he yells at you if you try to take a picture of the slides. His lectures are extremely boring and hard to focus on. A waste of time
This class was very fun. There's a group project that's pretty cool to work on and your group is assigned for you. Everyone leaving bad reviews didn't read the books. They have a ton of fun facts (G,G, Grrls) and are a good read, not taxing at all. He's very a smart and funny prof, my time was spent well... and 40 pts for showing up in class, WIN.
While the course itself is not very difficult, Dr. Abel is. Each exam covers about 5 chapters but we are lucky if he covers three or four of those. Unsure as to why he lets us out of class early when he could spend that time lecturing and actually teaching important material. He is a lazy professor and not the most compassionate toward students.
He, as a professor, is good at what he does. The tests aren't crazy hard and I scored almost perfect on all the data workshops. He offers some EC. He does say some snippy things though and you cannot take pics of his slides even tho he moves at the speed of light.
Dr. Abel is chill, but he is not the best at teaching. Forget trying to write down anything in his lectures, just read the textbook and record the lectures. There is A LOT of material covered on the tests, so study! Attendance is annoying as he randomly takes it on the worst days. He does give many opportunities for extra credit (A is attainable)
class itself is not difficult. You just have to study the terms and apply them. However, my man Richard Abel lectures SO FAST, and you're not allowed to take pictures of his slides. He takes RANDOM attendance and is rly serious about it (he will send you to the Honor Council if you fake attendance). there's a paper due each week but they're easy.
Talks down to students, is very particular about his own rules. A few students took pictures of slides so he removed them entirely from the lectures going forward causing students to have to ask him to repeat almost every point he made. Lots of students were upset, he responded in a very condescending manner basically saying he'll do what he wants
Incredibly tedious professor. Long lectures with lots of information that he goes through incredibly quickly. Tests are filled to the brim with very specific info from the lecture, readings, or documentaries. Would not recommend taking unless you are an enthusiastic Soci major who is ok with lots of time spent outside of class studying.
This professor's lectures are boring, and he does not post the slides/lectures online like every other professor does. Quizzes are due at the most random of times (assigned on Friday afternoon and due Saturday morning) so they are easy to forget to do. Late work is not accepted and attendance is required. I would NOT RECOMMEND this professor/class!
Make sure you read the textbook chapters assigned. He does not cover it all in lecture, but is on the test.
Prof. Abel is a great prof who knows what he's talking about. Be ready to READ and pay close attention during lectures. He talked extremely fast and WILL NOT let you take pictures of his slides. Attendance is also mandatory and he takes it very seriously. As long as you read the book and pay attention you'll be okay.
While this class is very interesting to take, i will say Professor Abel lectures way too fast where it is impossible to keep up. His class is textbook heavy, some material from textbook he doesn't go over in class and is 100% on exams. Pictures are NOT allowed, he will turn off slides indefinitely if he spots a picture being taken.
hes okay. If you try you can get an A or a B. Some quizzes are extra credit, but he doesnt give you lots of time to do them. He lectures so fast with no slides. However he does have slides but chooses not to put them up because he is weird abt people taking pictures.
He means business with his lecture. Hence, attendance is a must. He didn't even excuse me for a medical issue that made it physically unable to attend or other people when they were sick without a diagnosis from a doctor. Also, you'll never get that extremely important lecture back if you miss. Funny guy though
Be sure to go to class as attendance is mandatory and taken on random days. If you go and pay attention and keep up with his fast-paced lectures you will be fine.
The class is very interesting and packed with a lot of information to get ready to write. You are not allowed to take pictures of the slides, but the textbook assigned has all the material needed and is an interesting read. The most fun you will have in this class is doing social experiments it is interesting to see the theoretical IRL.
Professor Abel was overall a decent professor. He gives so many extra credit opportunities that will bring your grade up so much. There's a group project that lasts for most of the semester but it's easy, fun, and interesting. Make sure to actually show up to class because he takes random attendance quizzes and your attendance is graded.
His teaching style was lowkey not it. He gets VERY triggered if you take pictures of his lecture slides for some reason. He goes pretty fast, but the concepts are not hard. The tests are lowkey hard, but DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. My grade went from a 90 to a 100.5 lol. The assignments are not difficult at all, just time-consuming and annoying.
Prof Abel is one of my favorite professors. He was helpful with explaining concepts in a way I could understand them and took the time to help me review. Go to lecture bc a lot of questions come from that imo. He is a funny guy which helps w lectures, and if you show that you care and put in the effort he will 100% help you out. Go to office hours!
I was scared to take when reading the reviews, but honestly, he's a good professor. He takes mandatory attendance, but lectures are interesting and enjoyable. I would recommend.
Pretty good overall. Enjoyed class, he's funny. Be ready to read a lot, there's a group project that isn't too bad either. Attendance is mandatory, but the lectures are not boring. He is very accessible and is willing to give extensions if needed. Many complained but it really wasn't that bad. Exams are fluffed, but if you study you should be fine.
I really liked Dr. Abel. He takes random attendance for a grade but I enjoyed going to class because his lectures were very interesting. There were 3 exams throughout the semester (no cumulative final) and if you study your lecture notes and read the assigned textbook chapters you will have no problem with them. One big group project as well.
Randomly takes attendance quiz, so attendance is required. He is a pretty chill professor & gets involvement from the class. There are 2 required textbooks, I had them but did not read them. I would recommend skimming the texts, as there were textbook specific questions on the exams. There is a almost weekly workshop, which was a lot of writing.
Richard Abel is a very cool guy but a terrible professor. His lectures are incredibly fast paced and he doesn't allow you to take pictures or post them after. His tests are extremely difficult!!! Lots of papers and attendance is extremely important. The workshops aren't graded too hard but extremely time consuming.
Dr. Abel is an okay professor, if you want to pass this class go to all the lectures, you don't necessarily need the textbooks because he goes over everything. Total of 3 exams and a group project. If you want to pass the exams go to class!! Group project consists of all semesters so you shouldn't fall behind.
I took his online class and it wasn't for me. very test heavy and the online format of the class made it difficult to predict what could be on the tests. Luckily, there was extra credit, which I did, but it was extremely time consuming. I would not reccomend.
Really enjoyed him as a professor. Cool guy and I liked the frequent movie days that he did. I went to class every day, and ended up getting a lot of extra credit opportunities because of it. Tests are not easy, but if you sit in class and listen, you will do fine. Ask questions, as a class we got some cool discussion if people participated.
Does random attendance quizzes for a grade. He didn't go to the first day of class and never addressed it but things happen. I found the lectures interesting, but tests can be challenging so go to every lecture. 8-10 page (double spaced) group paper due toward end of semester as final grade. Lectures VERY fast. Cool guy, okay prof.
If you read the textbook, you will be fine. He quotes it word for word in his lectures. Don't skip class, frequent attendance, and in-class assignments...I never made above a C on an exam and still earned a high A from these grades. He frequently cancels classes and has movie days.
He was a pretty cool prof. Make sure you know how to take notes because he doesn't post slides or allow recording/pictures. Lots of extra credit + 5 minutes at the end of every exam to look at notes. Will help if you ask for it & wants students to succeed. Super lecture heavy + random in class assignments so attendance is a must 10/10 take him.
If you do not HAVE to take him.. then don't. The only reason I passed is because of the TA's. If you work or are taking a lot of classes, you probably won't be able to do his extra credit. His test and quizzes were tough, the answers to the questions were basically the same, and you just had to hope you picked correctly-or whatever he agreed with.
He is a good professor but he does not post slides so you have to pay attention and keep up in lecture. The exams are easy as long as you read the textbooks and remember definitions. He did try to accuse me of cheating because one of my papers showed that I used AI generation when I did not, and I know that he did this to other students as well.
Given the fact that this was a summer course it was a lot harder to keep with assignments but so doable. He tried to help out as much as possible and there were about 30 grades which included 5 exams, 15 quizzes, and 10 discussion. As long as you truly read the books and tried to understand the concepts you were able to get good grades in the class
Not sure what's with the lower ratings, but I find him to be a great professor. Attendance is mandatory but it's better to attend anyway since he explains textbook material really well; sometimes, the lectures are pretty entertaining. I guess the only downsides are the hard exams, but extra credit if done can basically make up for that.
Not very accessible outside of class. Doesn't post his lectures to study. Goes too fast during lectures. Random attendance and if you miss it you need 24 hr notice. Try to avoid this class
The class was pretty straight-forward, all quizzes are at home, and workshops once a week that weren't too bad. He does attendance quizzes randomly at the very end of class which was annoying, but overall decent prof.
spent hours reading the textbooks just to get his witty exams based on jokes and pop-culture references, which have little to do with the actual textbooks. the quizzes are the same and i never got 100.took him cuz yall said he'd be easy and yall did me dirty.. the group paper was super irritating too. ive never had to write a group paper before.
Class is super interesting but be prepared to buy and read two separate textbooks. Weekly quizzes are given and allow for a lot of extra credit, he allows you to use printed notes for the last five minutes of the tests. The group project is worth 40% of your grade and groups are chosen at random which sucks if you're the one doing the all the work
The topics taught in this class are relatively easy and straightforward. Attendance is mandatory so as long as you show up to every class you should be fine. The exams are somewhat difficult with pretty strange questions but overall not too bad. The group project is very important for this class as it counts for roughly 40% of your grade.
His lectures were fast and he never posted lecture slides. The tests had nothing to do with the lectures. One of the textbooks, "Goths, Gamers, & Grrrls", is the most god-awful textbook I've ever read. A few chapter titles include "Skinheads" and "Satanic Scares". Seriously? We all have the right to our own beliefs but this textbook is outrageous.
Doesn't post or allow pics of the slides. Speaks quickly, so be prepared to take notes fast! I strongly recommend purchasing the textbooks- a lot of the test/quiz material comes from them. Cool guy if you get to know him. Provides tons of extra credit & review Qs. Super interesting material. Not a blow-off, but an A+ is possible with effort.
He doesn't post his lectures, but if you copy and paste the definitions from the textbook into your notes before class, its easy to keep up (he posts flashcards). Attendance was randomized and taken for a grade, so just go to class (cancels/has movie days all the time, so its EZ). You can get an A, extra credit was too much effort for me personally
Class is mandatory, and if you miss a day, attendance can decide if you get an A or not. MUST HAVE DOC NOTE!! He reads off the slides but is very knowledgeable about the topics. Ensure expectations on steps to research paper are met, or you will not get full credit. Quizzes and tests are challenging. 50 questions in 50 minutes. Best of luck!
To be honest, he's just a chill guy. No, but in all seriousness, this class was fine. Attendance is randomized, so make sure you show up. You need two textbooks, which he lectures straight from. However, he doesn't post lecture slides and gets mad when you take photos. Beware of the amount of writing and do the extra credit opportunity!
I really enjoyed this class and learning about deviance. Although attendance is random, it keeps you engaged. Each time I showed up to class, I learned something new and was glad I attended. The exams were pretty easy as long as you read the textbook and paid attention to the quiz questions. There are "game days" for extra credit—ATTEND THEM!!
Prof Abel was a decent prof. His lectures were kinda interesting but go to class because he does random attendance. His tests were hard but going to lecture helps understand. Overall he was decent.
He is an okay professor. You NEED the textbook, because the exams are mostly based off of the textbook. He moves really fast in lecture, and barely gives us time to write stuff down. He doesn't post the slides, or allows us to take pictures or record the lectures. Only good this is that he gives extra credit, but its a lot of extra work.
This class isn't a hard one, but it is ALL reading based, so if you don't like reading, don't take it. Weekly writing assignments and discussion posts based on chapters from the books. Tests are lockdown with camera so READ the books and take vigorous notes! A lot of the tests are application so know definitions and concepts. Do extra credit early!
His class wasn't that hard as long as you stay on top of everything and deadlines yourself. He offers extra credit. Doesn't allow you to take pictures or videos of the slides, which is all of the information you have to get from class and pay attention/take notes. Not very lenient with anything. Random questions from readings but not too bad.
Dr.Abel is chill and a good prof. Definitely go to lecture it's basically your textbook in audio format and attendance is also random. Tests are super easy if you take good notes and read the sage readings. Data workshops are a pain (lots of papers) but easy enough. Extra credit opportunities for volunteering and class got canceled somewhat often.
He often rushed through lectures while using textbook heavy language, so it was hard to take notes properly. He didn't even have slides at times, making it harder to follow along. Takes attendance randomly. There was also a 10 min video we had to make that was only worth 3% of our grade. I really liked the course material, but not this prof.
He was a fun lecturer, and I enjoyed his sarcastic personality. The material covered was genuinely interesting. He doesn't share his slides, so you do need to take good notes in class. There was also two textbooks for this class you need to read… like actually, but they were relatively an easy and even enjoyable read.
He was a good lecturer, and I liked his sarcastic personality. He does not share his slides, so taking notes are important. This class also required 2 textbooks, and you need to read them… like actually… But it's an easy and enjoyable read.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Lectures are him reading off of slides verbatim. Inappropriately attempts to be "cool" with students. He does not care about his class or students whatsoever, yet expects you to put your entire soul into his classes. Talks down to students because he thinks he "gets" everyone because he's a soci professor. Seriously do not take.
Be ready to watch lots of movies and be given very little warning on upcoming assignments. You need to stay on track in this class regarding group project deadlines, quizzes, and exams.
His lectures are extremely boring, straight from the slides -- YET HE DOES NOT POST THEM OR ALLOW ANYONE TO TAKE PICTURES OF HIS SLIDES. In fact, he will get extremely angry if anyone tries to do so. Lots of writing but overall a relatively easy subject. Requires you to do experiments and do surveys with people on campus.
You need two textbooks in order to succeed in class. Quizzes given every week/every other week rely on the textbooks and information from the lectures (which he doesn't post anywhere). He also randomly takes attendance without warning so make sure you're in class. There is also a project which requires you to perform a deviant act to strangers.
Attendance wasn't mandatory but he didn't post lectures so you needed to go to know the material. I only read the Goths, gamers, and grlls book and i did well on exams. The group project is only difficult if you have lazy peers. The lectures were interesting and sometimes we'd watch movies.
Very good professor. Tests were kind of difficult but the reviews helped a lot as well as the cheat sheet he lets you use at the end. Lectures were very entertaining (sometimes watched movies) and informative. little to no homework and all assignments were in class with partners. attendance was mandatory. great professor!!
Dr Abel takes a bit of getting used to but is pretty chill. He expects a lot from students. Feedback felt a bit hard to understand at times. He does lecture straight from the slides and textbook and there are separate reading on the exam. Quizzes, data workshops assignments and random attendance are the main grades. Not for everyone but not bad!
I really liked this class and would recommend it. He applies a lot of theoretical conversations and opens the door for a lot of critical-thinking discussions. Attendance is mandatory (random) & he does do weekly quizzes, but it is super easy to get an A, especially if you go to exam reviews (he does extra credit exam games).
I really enjoyed his class because it was easy to follow and fun to engage with the topics we were learning. His tests can be difficult if you don't keep up with the textbook readings, but aside from that, the lectures are clear and manageable. There's also not a heavy workload outside of class.
Essentially reads out of the textbook for lectures, so there's really no need to pay for a class where you just learn exactly what's in the textbooks (like almost word for word sometimes); extra credit opportunities are there and it's not a hard class if you go to lecture//read//study, but frustrating if you're actually interested in the subject
Simply read the book and fill in the blanks with his lectures (which are mandatory and he has random attendance assignments) and you'll know 95% of what you need to. He's not hard, and the few assignments he gives are easy (and usually in class). Just make sure to study for the exams and you'll be fine.
The professor does not post slides or let you record/take pictures of slides, but the lecture is solely textbook based so if you read it before hand you'll be ok. He posts the chapters in canvas so you don't need to buy the textbook. He honestly is a good professor. Exams are common sense, more heavily on papers, easy to write, not graded harsh👍🏽
this class was based on one giant group project. it's easy if your group does the work. he is very fair so if your group is not contributing, just let him know. he gives a TON of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. if you study consistently you'll do fine on the exams. READ THE TEXTBOOKS! they're basically the entire exam. loved him
Professor Abel is a unique professor. His lecturing style is extremely fast and not always the most clear. He doesn't post slides but will review material if needed. There are 2 textbooks for this class. He does test on material from the textbooks. I didn't read them and was fine. Just pay attention in class and be engaged. Many group assignments.
His personality is kind of sassy, but not necessarily in a bad way and the lecture material is pretty interesting. He randomly takes attendance in class and there are also random group assignments in class that were pretty annoying, so you basically have to go to class everyday. Overall, an interesting class. He also had random movie days!
I took this class over the summer so your experience may differ. That being said, this version of the class makes it so the minimum you should get (assuming you bother to do the work correctly) is a B. Textbook is easy to understand, class is straightforward, quick pace due to summer standards but even so it wasn't too difficult.
Genuinely, coming from someone who never reads textbooks; not only do you NEED to read the textbooks...but they are actually very interesting!! I found some of my favorite movies just by reading the required textbooks. Can we also just appreciate that he at least updates his students.
Dr. Abel is a very nice guy, kinda intimidating though. He doesn't post lecture notes and his exams are lowkey hard. He does let you use notes for the last 5 minutes of the exam. There's a group project that is worth a ton of your grade, and you have to do a deviant act. I don't recommend this class if you don't need the credit.
Professor Abel is really nice. There is a lot of group projects, that could easily be done individually. His tests are not too bad if you read the textbook and pay attention in lectures. There are random attendance days, but also random movie days!!
yall take this class with this professor. hes literally the goat. lots of extra credit, easy exams, and sure attendance is mandatory but it isnt that bad at all. he is also really helpful and lenient. its impossible to fail honestly
