He told us that the lowest grade he gives is D. Doesn't get any easier.
Truly the worst professor I have had. Avoid at all costs!

A disgrace to the university
Very helpful and pleasant--it's hard to do well when you don't come to class!
Hard to understand...needs to learn better english before teaching
Avoid him like the plague
Told our whole class that we weren't smart, but he curves your final grade.

Hard professor, but i think most students don't like him becuase they are bigots. Lets face it, must of us aren't that smart.
Nice guy, bad teacher
Nice guy and a good teacher...I had no trouble understanding him and he used real world situations to make his points clearer to the class which was helpful

are we here to learn or get by? Dr. Agesa's classes are hard, but that is what has made him one of my favorite professors. HE DOES NOT, make Economics hard, just nobody wants to think. DAMN Good prof!
Hard to understand..his tests are ridiculus...nice man...terrible teacher
Very dificult to understand. Class was very boring and his tests were IMPOSSIBLE! Unless you are an Econ major expect to make a C, if you are lucky.
Learn to speak English before teaching a class!Tests are impossible..totally irrational & unhelpful..MY MOTHER-IN-LAW PASSED AWAY AND HE REFUSED TO LET ME MAKE UP THE TEST WHICH WAS AT THE SAME TIME AS THE FUNERAL! The man is SATAN...avoid at all costs!!
dr. agesa is easier than people say he is. the tests aren't hard and he doesn't give much homework.
do not take this professor unless you have a wonderful understanding of ecnomics.

I learned a lot and passed with a B. I failed his wife's ECN 200 class though.
Good Teacher, helpful.. made learnin the materail fun. scales the class. extra credit.

This man cannot teach worth a damn. You can't understand him half the time! The whole class was failing yet he promises a curve. I turned in all my homeworks, tried my hardest on the testd, which were ridiculous, and still recieved an F. AVOID HIM!
He's a great teacher. Anyone who gets a bad grade deserves it. If you go to his office and ask for help, he will explain things. People need to stop asking for handouts and learn the information, your in college!!
Gave lots of notes and graphs in class, went over a lot of concepts. On the tests he expected YOU to figure out how to apply them! Tested on things he didn't go over in class much, did give a nice curve though. Would never take him again!
Tests are HARD!I got 8/10-10/10 on all my quizzes and I got a D on the test!He is willing to help but I didn't realize I needed help.Offers an extra credit test and homework is worth the same as 2 tests combined.Thank goodness for the CURVE!!
Dr Agesa is wonderful. I had read the other bad things on here and was terrified to take the class. But the things these people have said are absurd. He explains things so clearly and is very eager to help you. You can tell he loves to teach economics!
He's very knowlegdable about his subject. Makes learning a dry subject much more interesting. His accent is a bit difficult to catch at first, but its not hard to pick up. I really enjoyed him, and I will take him again.

Lets see, I only go to class on thursdays and quiz days and copy off the person next to me. I also go on the sunny days when the girls dress hot. oh yeah, i learned that he cant teach worth a poop!
He was hard, but willing to work with you. I enjoed the class most of the time, but he did have hard tests. I probably would take him again
If people would COME TO CLASS, maybe they wouldn't think he was so bad.He helps alot with final grades, curves quite a bit.I really liked his class. P.S.-don't believe people's ratings who don't care enough to even show up for class! TAKE AGESA!!!
Dr. Agesa is a very bright man, but sometimes he has trouble conveying his ideas in words. Good notes, but homework and quizzes are a bit difficult because you have to know how to apply the concepts yourself. His examples are a little "qualitative", while his homework is more "quantitative."
He's very helpful when you ask him. He gives great notes. Test and quizzes are hard, but if you actually work with someone else like he says, you'll figure it out. Gives a great curve. Just make sure YOU COME TO CLASS!!
He's very enthusiastic, and really wants u to learn the material. He's very helpful, there are a lot of quizzes but it keeps u from having to cram for tests. Oh yeah, there is only a midterm and a final!!!
He's tough but a fair guy. He really wants to help his students, and is really helpful if you go to him.
This man is extremely frustrating. Don't expect him to respond your emails. He's very uninterested in grades, which is fine, but it gets a bit annoying when he refuses to respond to repeated questions about your grade. As a college student, you have a right to know where you stand. FRUSTRATING
I thought that Dr. Agesa was extremely hard. The notes that we took in class didn't reflect any of the exams we took.
Hard class, but Dr. Agesa tries hard to get his points across. If you show up to class everytime and take good notes you should be fine. I would recommend him if your willing to do a little work.
Dr Agesa teaches with enthusiasm, but homework and tests are soooo hard and unclear. He answered all my emails, and there were alot! Go to class, trust me, he doesn't take role, but he knows!Just note that weekly homework is unclear, and there were announced quizzes every week that were also just as hard.
Dr. Agesa is very hard to follow, and he will not take any time to clear things. Drop him, if you have him.
Horrible.
I was not interested in this class at all before but Dr. Agesa really has enthusiasm for this subject. If you go to class, take notes, read and ask questions you should do fine. Some of the quiz, homework, and test questions can be confusing but also alot give the answer for previous questions.
GO TO CLASS, and take notes. you will have to study, but he is very much approachable, and he really wants you to understand the material. the homework and quizes are sometimes hard to understand, but sometimes you can talk him into dropping ?'s, i enjoyed his class. if you do all the homework and quizes and show up, you will do fine.
I thought the class was time consuming, but easy. He really cares and always welcomes you to ask questions. Tests come directly from the notes, but today in the final he said that next semesters classes would have the standardized final as 40% of their grade. The final was hard, but if you study you'll be fine.
Understands what he's teaching but portrays the material in a manner too difficult for the average student to grasp. Quizzes & graded h/w due ea. week (sometimes they do help!!). Notices who attends class, asks questions, takes notes & takes advantage of office hours. Generously curves--on average, I had a D and got a B!!!!!!!
Just not a very good instructor. Stay away from him, go for anyone but him if you can help it, easy curve but doesn't do a good job teaching and if you want to continue down this path you need to actually get a good grade and LEARN.
Either you get economics or you don't, but he tries very hard to get you to understand. he is very approachable and excitable, and he really wants you to do well.
Hard class, but he really wants you to think. Tests, homework and quizzes are hard, but the homework really helps.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!! Wicked hard. I wanted to cry everytime I sat down in that class, I never had any idea what was going on! Homework is hard, and quizzes/tests are even harder! Nothing to do with what he goes over in class!! Avoid him at all costs!
He was a nice guy, a little goofy, but its a really really hard class. I think it doesn't help that Microeconomics is normally not an easy subject for people, I didnt do too bad, I really hardly tried because I had given up. He does use a curve which helps a lot.
Definitely wouldn't recommend Agesa at all. I barely pulled a C in his class and I busted my tail in it! He almost turned me off completely to Economics, but since I've had Adkins and Newsome so I'm saved! Avoid Agesa at all costs!
Richard Agesa is a great economist, he is the former president of the African Association of Commerce and Finance or something...and he is an enthusiastic teacher. The microeconomics course is just that, a microeconomics course- it may be challenging to some, but that is not becasue of Dr. Agesa. I recommend this teacher, don't listen to whiners.
ME is HARD. I took it as part of the Marshall Plan, BIG MISTAKE. Agesa seemed knowledgable just too plain and never emphasized nor broke down material for such a hard course, he went really quick paced. Still, if you put forth effort and went to class, he knew it and REFUSED to fail you. Grades on a huge curve too, it HELPED!
Easily, hands down, the worst professor I've had at Marshall. The material is very basic, yet he presents it in the most complicated way possible. I've taken upper level Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus and made A's in these classes but am nearly failing his class. He says he is going to curve the grades, but he is very unclear about grades
Funny guy and real friendly, and smart in economics, but HE SUCKS AT TEACHING!!! He talks more to the board than the class, avoids questions, and doesn't inform students of their progress. He needs to work somewhere else, but a university.
Please don't listen to the bad reviews! Dr. Agesa is one of the most intelligent and most helpful professors at Marshall. He will do anything in his power to help you succeed. The class is hard but you're graded on how you perform against others in your class. He will try everything to help you out if you put for the effort.
Agesa was the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. Feel sorry for anyone else who has him.
Bad reviews come, I think, from those who are not committed to putting in the work necessary to succeed. This is not high school, do not expect to be coddled. Highly intelligent, professional and humorous. His class is tough, but that is the nature of the subject. Great professor!
Be prepared to not have a clue what's going on. he gives out a lengthy homework assignment every week with really wordy questions that you won't be able to understand. he does do a ridiculous curve though. if you show up, he notices and will grade you according to that. i had no clue what was going on but walked out with a b.
He really knew what he was talking about, ver intelligent and funny. But his class is extremely difficult. His wording on tests and homework is very tough to understand, and don't expect anything above a C on his exams (class avg was usually D or F) but he has a crazy curve to make it fair. It's a challenge, but worth it. I recommend him.
He is seriously the smartest guy alive. He loves his economics, the tests and hw are hard but he gives the class a ridiculous curve. would of got an F in the class but got a B from the curve. He expects you to work but with this curve and some effort yo will do fine.
He is not as hard as people say. Just be ready to work, and if you have questions ask he will help you. Tests are hard but the curve helps everyone out like you wouldn't believe.
FANTASTIC professor! I got on here to check out evals for him before I had him and the negative ones could not be more inaccurate. His class is a bit of a b*tch in difficulty, but you walk away knowing and understanding the material whether you want to or not. I got an A - read, attended class, and studied a bit. Challenging, but def possible!
Dr. Agesa must have realized students had a negative perception of his class, because he's changed his game - a little. His wording on homework and tests (which are all online this year) is difficult to understand, and he doesn't communicate the lesson very effectively. I'm doing well only by the mercy of his online homework and extra credit.
He has changed how he used to be. He is a lot easier now. All his assignments are online. Get a study group together and you should get an A.
Class was pretty hard but I can tell he loves economics and he is very willing to help if you go to his office hours. He is very intelligent and has an amazing amount of knowledge about the subject just ask questions and you will be fine.
He obviously loves economics and everything makes sense in class but when you go to take the weekly test everything is like opposite of what you learned and no matter what it seems like you will get the questions wrong.
Professor was not helpful and condescending when replying to questions. Test/quiz questions are poorly phrased.
Was not helpful at all. The quizzes and tests are difficult to pass even with an open book. Questions are phrased poorly and concepts are difficult to understand. Reading the book only helps so much in this course.
Everything was online except for the final.
He is a great guy and will give you help! Do the extra credit! All of the homework can be looked up online, but I suggest you try to understand the lesson. He also usually curves the grade at the end of the semester.
I have absolutely no complaints! Dr. Agesa is a wonderful professor. Let class out when we finished the set material and tried not to waste anyone's time. answered all questions and you encouraged participation in class. willing to give take-home tests with the class unanimously desired them. But makes you understand the material, no bingepurging
Dr. Agesa was awesome. He was fun in class, used simple examples, and told how we could apply the basic economic principles in daily purchases. The math reminds me of College Algebra 1. The homeworks weren't too bad, and you saw similar problems on the exam (i.e. DO THE HOMEWORK). This was for a compressed summer course.
This review is for the follow up to Econ 501, which I took in summer block 2. 630 had more difficult material than 501, as you can imagine. However, Dr. Agesa made it simpler to understand. You NEED to attend class so that you can copy what he writes on the board. It is EXTREMELY important. Otherwise, class setup and quality is like 501. Good Prof.
Dr. Agesa is a great professor who really cares about you learning and succeeding! If you give it your all and show him you will follow instructions and deadlines, you will do well. He explains well and tells you how the research paper should be, no surprises. Be sure to reread your drafts and follow his feedback for the paper since it will help!
Weekly Connect assignments. Takes about 2 1/2 hours to do and worth a total of 30 points. Makes you use lockdown browser. Test are fairly difficult if you don't study. He can be hard to understand. When using Teams whiteboard he makes a mess of the screen. If you can make yourself understand the material it's not terrible
70% of your grade comes completely from homework. The homework is a bit time consuming, but it's practically built on participation. Exams are difficult but it's the way the coursework is set up you can easily pass with a C by just doing homework.
The homework assignments are participation, do them all to make up for test grades. The tests are very hard, even after studying for weeks and understanding the concepts. There was no communication from him whatsoever. He took over a week to answer any emails I sent. Would not recommend
Great guy, good at lectures. But extremely unhelpful. If you have a problem on anything, he tells you to figure it out yourself. Whole class had issues with an exam, he told us it was our job to contact IT. There were two questions on exam that were messed up and literally could not be answered. He wouldnt give us the points back.
Very straightforward
Not necessarily a hard class, but no thanks to the professor. He often times got the definitions of the words in class wrong, and when I pointed it out to him, he said to pay attention to the concepts rather than the definitions, and that is the best way i can describe him as a teacher, unintelligible.
I actually really enjoyed his class and he cared a lot about economics. All the assignments are online and self-explanatory.
Not good. Rude. Takes forever to respond to emails. Grades tough. Doesn't follow rubric. Just be prepared if you're in his class for your capstone.
easiest class everything was mc graw online stuff. one assignment & hw once a week. thats it folks . i did the hw weeks ahead so i could focus more on the assignment bc those do take time. the midterms were the same
Avoid. Lectures, homework (which is extensive), and exams are all completely different. If you do all of the homework, you should be fine, but in my opinion, it just isn't worth the headache. If economics comes easy to you go for it, but if you just need the credit, avoid it at all costs. No extra credit. Just don't.
Professor Agesa does not require attendance. However, even if you attend his class it can be very challenging. The homework is not hard, but the tests are very difficult. You will need to be a good note taker to succeed in this class.
This was a very easy class because it was all online. All we had was online McGraw Hill homework every week and a test now and then. Very easy class if you can take it online.
You have 2 online assignments a week that are quite lengthy and 3 exams throughout the semester. There is no way you will receive a good grade on an exam. I took this course in-person and actually went to the class maybe 3 times. The professor is okay, just boring and distant.
Dr. Agesa gave two weekly assignments that covered the content that was covered in PowerPoints online. Following the PowerPoints and reading the chapter associated with it is the best way to understand the material and gives you the best chance to pass the class. As long as you complete all of the assignments, there is more room for error on tests
He is an okay teacher, his class is rather easy if you come to class and do the homework. The lecture can be a little boring but he makes them interesting sometimes with the way he explains things. Definitely would recommend (at least for non econ majors)
Dr. Agesa gives tests that are difficult, but he does a great job teaching the material in a way that you will actually remember. He actually cares about teaching and has a passion for his students learning. He might just be the greatest teacher of all time.
Dr. Agesa is the best professor I have ever taken! He cares about his students and loves to teach economics. His passion for his field is beyond anything I have seen from any other professor. If you complete all of the homework you should automatically pass with a C. The tests can be difficult but overall they are not bad. Best professor ever!
Rude and pompous
It is clear he has a passion for economics, but I would not consider him a good professor. His tests are rough and he does throw tricks in them. The only way most individuals I talked to passed was by his homework being a big part of the grade.
Prof. Agesa's class can be challenging, but engaging with the material and using helpful study tools like unstuck AI can make a real difference. The lectures are worth attending, and completing assignments diligently is key to success.
Online class is a joke tbh
If it wasn't for the heavy dependance on the participation homework this class would be so bad. Luckily, you can essentially guarantee a C just by doing the Mcgraw Hill work every week. The tests seem impossible. He words the questions to confuse you and makes you feel like you do not know anything that you just studied the whole week prior.
Do not take this class in person, he makes his weekly quizzes unbelievable hard, it is impossible to score a good grade on the quizzes even if you studied, only way 95% of the class is passing is because homework is a huge part of the overall grade.
If you don't have a religion, get one and pray.
You better pay attention during the lectures or you will fail. Go to office hours for help!
