He is a killer! very hard.
he's really difficult. cannot understand anything.
If you do the reading...you will love this man!
I didn't like his class at all. he can be a total A*hole
Not that hard at all. He makes everything real clear...then again, my dad's a lawyer so anything I'm stuck with I just ask him about.
He's a cool guy. As long as you read and do everything he requires, you'll be alright.
Very strick and short tempered! Just has a really bad attitude.
i love this teacher! he's awesome.. the most funniest guy. he's a great teacher. always willing to help students that care.. all you have to do is do the reading and i promise you'll ace his class
You had better know about accounting before entering this class. You won't learn much of anything. Yells quite a bit. Asks you to ask questions and then yells at you for asking a dumb question. Very moody. Good students test out at 60%. Pick Thompsen or Acct 2 will be very hard.
Not a good teacher. Very rude and treats students like they're idiots. Doesn't work with the students when necessary. Really doesn't teach just expects you to learn material on your own. Very short tempered.
If you are good at memorizing definitions you should definitely take him. The tests are based on memorizing terms.
Too bad the two people below me are dead wrong.
Horrible teacher! don't take him, doesn't teach you anything. If you do take him, expect to just read the material on your own, because he doesn't teach anything. Going to class will make you feel you're wasting your time.
took him for a summer class... got a B pretty damn easy just memorize the terms... has a lot of interesting stories about law... lets you out of class early sometimes.
anyways this guy is an alright teacher but he makes the material very very dry... and lets you out of class way too early it takes a toll on you after a while and makes you just not go anymore cuz its a waste on your time
nice guy
the freaking worst damn teacher i've had to date... including kindergarten. i think i would have learned more by buying sparknotes and a journal. He blurts out information that you might think is irrelavent, but you're wrong he expects you to write and memorize every little blurt he says. He's usele
he is such an EASY teacher... just read the chapters and know the terms, and you will pass with an "A".
He tries his best to make a boring subject like accounting a little less boring. You have to read and study a lot in order to really learn and pass the class. Multiple choice tests and attendance counts more than you think. Overall I liked the guy, but he gets on a lot of peoples' nerves
Heis allright
The hardest most boring teacher ever
Comes across very hard, but is really very fair and very concerned about the student succeeding.
excellent proffesor
easy class... but dont expect to learn much from him its all out of the books and terms. Hes a cool guy but ignorant, eurocentric, dry humor, you get to leave class early!

Just read the chapters and you will be ok. If you ask a question, you will get a very clear answer. Lots of details in this class, but the exams are ok. Multi questions+ T/F.
As an accounting teacher is horrible. he is not clear. =( As an Bussiness Law teacher... he will only test you on what he talks in class!! =) if you go to class, you pass.
Hard, out of sequence, says he cares about the student but really doesn't. Didn't learn much about accounting and had to work twice as hard...not very fair!!
If u are a young female & would like 2 get a) hit on b) insulted c) pestered..TAKE HIM! Those are his specialities. I don't know y he's teaching Accounting, he doesn't explain things well, & expects you to be a CPA from the beginning. Take him if u would like 2 receive a receding hairline 4rm stress
Yes this prof. is hard. But he is very helpful. If you are serious about learning the material then you won't have a problem. He gives extra credit that helps you raise your grade. If you need help and ask for it he will help you, but if you want to just kick back and not put any effort then take anoth
He is a great teacher, if you do the work!If he sees that you never come prepared he will have it in for you come grade time, if you do the work and contribute in class you will get a good grade. I suck at math/acct and got a B in this class. Tests are easy and multiple choice!
Probably the best Law/Business prof on Campus. Strict with and old school approach. Make sure that you do you home work but in embracing LAW combined with Ahrens teaching you will walk out of the class knowning BUSINESS LAW
I had his class, he is a great guy, but I never understand a word of him, all I had to do read the book. Accounting is all about visual, but he only explains never visualize thing which sucks
Worst teacher ever. I'm so happy I'll never have to deal with his crap again. Anyhow don't ever take him . And if you have to take business law don't take him either
Study and come prepared to class. Participate in class and do any extra work. He is tough on those who do not do their work. Dr Ahrens is very fair. I say again: Do ALL The Work and Study, Study, Study... Come to class prepared with homework complete. Read the Syllabus (print two copies). Ask questions on things that you do not understand.
I liked his class. hi's very helpful!
Teaches like a lawyer. Good and bad. Got an "A", but was not an easy ride. One mess up on a test and you're done baby! He let's you leave early and often though. READ THE TEXT throughly and look at the on-line quizzes for test questions and do the court cases and you'll do well.
Seems to believe lecturing is "doing the student's work for us". He clearly is annoyed by teaching and has temper tantrums you'd expect from a five year old. Believes in making the whole class pay for those who choose not to work. I don't pay tuition for these classes to have my education sacrified because another student doesn't care.

I loved Mr. Ahrens. I had him for a summer class in 2004. He is very funny and easy going. If you take good notes, you are sure to pass his class. The quizzes were very easy.
This professor is awesome, do your work and study and you will be good in this class. Bring your Accounting Book and Read the Law terms and you will pass in both classes. B and B
Intresting class but was not such a good teacher, easily angered, did not sufficently cover info for exams
This teacher is a complete jackass. His tests have nothing to do with the terms and lectures and he is so annoyed with teaching that it makes the class pretty dreadful. If you must take him, make sure that you do all of your terms before class because he WILL randomly call on you. Also, use the internet quizzes on the books website to study 4 tests
his is one of the best professor I ever had, just stop winning do homework and study. you will get an A+ he s not that hard
No Comments
I dropped his class. His first test for Chapter1-2, which includes law terms of chapter 3. His speech is hard to understand.
he doesn't teach. doing the terms is pointless. read the textbook because the test is right out of there. If you read the textbook word for word you will get an A on the exams. The class atmosphere is a joke. People run off on random tangents. Waste of time.
Horrible
I believe pp who say he's hard don't know how to learn in college. He makes us do the work for our own benefit. Trust me, take his class with a serious attitude and u'll learn a lot. Got inspired after taking accgt 1 and now considering to major in accouting. He's so far my best prof at Pierce!
Do not take this man. He is VERY unclear of what he wants and is not helpful.
If you have read all of the past review, you'll probably see that those who rated him bad are those who didn't do the work. Yes, he'll go after the slackers in the class because he wants everyone to learn. Just come prepared and you'll like him. I give his class two thumbs up!! ^-^
you have to ignore his temper or he'll drive you crazy.
He is basically bi-polar. Get on his good side and show up so he knows you're trying and then maybe you will do well....otherwise he is a jerk with major problems that he takes out on his students
he's not a bad guy, just a bad teacher. the only thing u learn 4rm is the text. read the required chapters be4 class, do the keyterms, come to class everyday, and participate. make sure he notices you(in a good way) show that ur paying attention and your interested even if ur not and u will do fine. dont take his class unless u absolutely HAVE 2!
He is a very good professor, he really cares about his students even though he doesnt necessarily show it..Ive talked to him outside the classroom and he is a great person..do the homework, show up to class on time, and participate and you'll do just fine..he can be a fun professor if you dont get him mad by not doing the assignments..
I agree that he's a good professor. He hates slackers, and he makes you work hard for your grade. He's also good at motivating students. When I got a good grade in the class, it's one of the most gratifying moments in my life , yet when I got a bad grade, I never felt discouraged but just knew that I should try harder next time.Absolutely recommend
If you do not like being scolded for not understanding the material DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Good teacher but if you do not keep up he will call you out in class. If you do take the class. READ the book and memorize the terms/key points in the chapters before class or else!!!
He constantly asks you to ask questions, yet when you ask a question, he gets angry at you for not knowing. I did not learn in this class, I really wanted to learn accounting, but his teaching style is AWFUL! Avoid at all costs.
He needs to improve on helping people instead of pushing people around like some kind of lawyer. He Likes terms. It seems like hes been using the same test for 10 years .I think hes Jerrys Springers evil brother.Take him if you want a good laugh because when he gets ticked its funny.
He is the best teacher I ever Knew!
Ahrens is tough if you aren't going to keep up with the work. He randomly calls on people in class, and gives you a hard time if you don't understand the material. He's a little moody, but he's nice enough if you show that you're working hard. I plan to take him again for Accounting.
Unbelievable. I know teachers, and this prof. can't teach, period. He expects everyone to know everything right away, and don't bother asking questions after he asks "are there any questions?" because he will chew you out for not knowing the answer to your own Q. Avoid at all costs. I would'nt take this guy if my life depended in it.
Why is he teaching. He loves to fail students and loves humiliating you if you do not no answers. He is horrible and thinks that he is the smartest man on earth. Well reality check this man does not know anything except for being a horrible teacher. Business class is not supposed to be as tough as he makes it. Avoid professor if you want to pass!!!
By far one of the worst teachers that I have gotten. I felt so stupid in his class. I didn't understand many things, and if I asked he would make this mean face and try to humiliate you. One time he called on me, and I thought he was talking to someone else and I was like who me? And he said oh course you I'm not cross-eyed! I felt so mortified
I thought I'd give him a try. Very bad idea.
Worst teacher ever. I honestly had to kiss his a** to pass. Show up, make sure he knows your name and do the work. GET ON HIS GOOD SIDE!!!!!!
Makes students feel dumb. make sure u go to class, he takes attendance. You can pass if u read the book. get on his good side cuz he likes to call people out. tests are not that bad if u read the book. a few asignments. i got a C with minimal effort
i have to give him" WORST TEACHER AWARD"... doesnt teach, learn absolutely nothing from him...WORST WORST.. Be SMART to stay away now, don't even give him a try..DO NOT TAKE HIM
If you have taken class with him, drop the class as soon as possible! You never learn some thing in his class , he just blames you!!
He does not create a good learning environment. He wants students to ask questions, and then makes them feel stupid when they have trouble understanding. He doesn't seem to have much of a lesson plan. He gives the impression of making it up as he goes along.
I took Mr.Ahrens for both Accountng and Business Law. He expected students to come to class with ALL the assigned reading and defintions completed. Class was ONLY a review of what was assigned, meaning you have to ASK QUESTIOS about anything you don't understand. If you do the assignments, come to class, and ask questions you will do just fine.
to be honest with you I have no clue why people wrote such bad comments about him. I'm currently taking the class and he's a great professor. His tests are multiple choice and pretty much straight foreword. he helps you until you get it. You must do all the work to get an A but you should not have a prob doing it. If u r a business major take him
I'm looking for easy professors, just like most of you. I didn't have a chance to look for one for my accounting 1 class, and I'm glad I didn't. Ahren's ratings are wayyy too low. He will not give you an A for effort but you will understand so much from him that you will know the material by heart. No one is better than him. TAKE HIM! He's not hard
He treats everyone like they are brainless and not worth the air they breath. He belittles all of his students, except for a token few (he seems to be way more lenient on middle-aged students). He does not prepare lectures and provides no feedback on assignments. It's basically an entire class period of being demeaned and not learning much.
Here's the deal. If you want to work on you own and not rely on a teacher, then he's the best. He DOESN'T TEACH! He expects you to know everything fromt he first day of class. I had a super hard time grasping concepts and he didn't help me at all.
Honestly I tried to get out of his class but, no one would add me However Arhens turned out to be a GREAT professor he may scare you the first couple of weeks but he just wants you to take his class seriously. If you need help he will help, just dont ask stupid questions. Also go to class! In the class there are 3 exams, and a few hw assignments
I took Ahrens for Accounting 1 .. I found him to be a caring teacher that makes you do the work so that you ACTUALLY LEARN! If your real lazy and dont plan on buying books hes not the teacher for you! He is helpful giving out very few extra credit and hes ALWAYS there to help clarify anything after class. This teacher is extremely great at wat he d
The key to this class is doing the hmwk before every class and PARTICIPATION. You will regret it if you don't do the hmwk, b/c the whole class time is Q&A based on hmwk (not many lectures at all) Three tricky exams incl. final plus 30 pts for attendance/ partipation. If you participate actively, he will love you! AND you will do well on the exams!
I have learned a lot from this class....or rather, the BOOK, youtube, online resources and my classmates. Seriously, the teacher is not helpful. First, he cannot hear (literally), interrupts you when you ask questions, puts you on blast in front of the class for answering wrong, takes it personal if you don't raise your hand or answer him. Moody.
He's honestly the worst teacher I have ever had! At least others don't get mad when you ask them questions because he does. He belittles his students and expects you to know everything through the book. He picks on students and gets irritated when you answer wrong. He's helpful. If you don't understand something he says you're not reading!
Dr Ahrens is a great teacher many of the other reviews you read will be of students who dropped out. He is very hard on people in the begining because he pushes you to learn.Make sure you do all the reading before class do the homework you will do great. He is very helpful if you ask him.
Interested in class at first, lost interest when he was condescending to the class, then he was gone for 2 weeks so i dropped the class, the only lecturing he did was ask the students to define the terms he assigned. The tests were simple though whether you read or not.
He's funny, overall a nice guy, a lot of people dropped his class but it's one of those classes you had to stick around to see THAT IT GETS BETTER! He joked around a lot and first test was a take home, so Just learn ALL the terms and read the book, you need it! I personally LIked HIM A LOT!!
His class is super easy. All you have to do is attend class, and do the terms. Just from that, you can figure out his tests. Unfortunately, I was sick a lot and missed a ton of class. I still got a C without even trying. If you read the book, you'd get a 100% in the class. No lie. People complain because he embarrasses you if you don't do the work.
He is too hard and does not explain thoroughly. If you have background in accounting and learn by just teaching yourself go for it. He will not teach he will just expect you to know it.
One of the worst teachers at Pierce. He is impatient, and does not explain anything. He expects us to grasp things right away as if we took the class before. Terrible Terrible ! Avoid at all cost.
Dr. Ahrens is one of the most diligent and professional instructors with whom I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class. He cares deeply about preparing his students for a future career in business and/or law. This is not to say that he is an easygoing person. He does not tolerate laziness at all, but if one reads the text, one will succeed.
Expects students to grasp the subject as soon as the words come out of his mouth. He yells at students who asks questions. I have taken several accounting classes before and since and as an accounting major along with a book-keeper for my job he does not know the subject. He will argue with you and the book - he belives he knows it all.
He's funny and kind, but his teaching is...not good. You don't "read" the text, you must MEMORIZE it the first time you read it. Answers your questions with questions. Is very vague. Calls everyone an idiot if you can't answer. If you don't know the answer, you didn't read. Expects you to already be a professional accountant prior this class.
I took his class for 2 weeks then dropped it. He seemed nice and funny at first then his claws came out he was so mean i dropped the class. He assumes if you dont know the answer u didnt read or come prepared. He yelled at me for not knowing the answer but i honestly read the chapter and couldnt remember.I suggest to not take him.
Reading the book is a MUST. Just remember all the terms. 5 exams. he doesnt say it but one gets dropped. attend class for extra credits. hes really boring & doesnt put much effort into the class - some class only go for 30 mins seriously. just READDDD! an A is possible even tho hes quesitons are tricky - read every word carefully!
Professor Ahrens's class is not the easiest class you will take, but I think business law in general is not an easy subject. You really have to read the book to be able to get good grades on the tests. He might give you a hard time in the beginning but turns out as a very nice and helpful guy later on, who also gives extra credit.
I've come back to update on a previous comment I made. Though I still stand by what I said (long story short, terrible teacher) he DID pass me even though I failed every test, but got a C on the overall homework grade. Not sure if he passed me due to pity or saw I was actually trying. Either way, terrible.
He is a nice guy, but he is a bad professor. His teaching method is horrible. He is the worst professor I've ever had!
One of the worst teachers at Pierce by far. Sadly, he's actually a decent guy. His philosophy is that students should teach themselves. Reading is required, and he even takes attendance based on asking a question about what you should have read. If you don't know it, he will mark you absent. His only upside is that he curves his grades.
He is the worst teacher i've ever had. After going to college for over 5 years, i have never had an instructor so useless. You might as well save your tuition money, buy the book and learn on your own. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Find an instrustor thats willing to help and knows how to teach
Not an easy A..Yes, he is hard onvstudents if you don't do the reading and will put you on the spot but he deeply cares and wants you to understand your errors. This is not a class you want to slack off and not put 100% of your time.Attend all classes, read the book , do the cengage homework assignments and you will pass.
This man is a living encyclopedia. If you are social and productive with him you will see how clear and polite is he.
This professor didn't have the most exciting class, but as far as lectures, he made everything very clear to understand. simply read the chapters and know the vocab words and an A or B is easily in your hands
Attend class, be respectful (no cell phones), do the definition and volunteer in class, you'll get at least a B. He's a very kind professor but he does expect you to do the work. It's a very easy class, I took him for accounting also. I loved him!
I dropped his class because he is so mean. I am a very shy person and he yelled at me for not knowing an answer. I changed my major because of him.
Business law was easy! You have to read and do the terms. Attendance is mandatory. Try to volunteer. Be warn he doesn't have patience with you if you didnt come prepare to class, which shouldn't be a problem since we are in college right...
Overall this class was easy. Be warn this class with him will require that you teach yourself the material and then discuss it class. He hates when people are not prepared. but overall a nice guy, but i think his misunderstood.
He sets high expectations for the class, but is fair. If you don't do the work and come prepared, you will be called out--which happened to just about everyone at some point. the exams were straightforward and pretty easy. He can be grumpy, but I actually liked him alot. Goo sense of humor--you just have to understand where he's coming from.
I took Prof Ahrens during Winter Session, which is five weeks. I already know him before I took Acctg 1 because he was also my Prof for Bus Law 5 and he is good! If you don't come prepared and you get called and you don't know the answer that's on you! He does have a good sense of humor and teaches the class well. Got an A for both classes!
He expects you to come to class prepared, knowing the materials ahead of time. Otherwise, he will get angry and be disappointed with the class. Other than that, he will gladly help you when you ask. Don't be afraid, he'll gladly help you if you don't understand. He gives out handouts and study guides to help for his test.
Don't take his Accounting 1 class ( waste of Time and Money )i don't know about other classes.
good teacher grades are easy you just need to read. the biggest thing is the book cost alot but its for acc 1 and 2
Be prepared to be a college student! If you think for a second that you can get away with not trying in this class, drop it. This is a good insight for law and future law classes. He wants his students to do well and that's why he's so tough on his students. 4 exams and drops the lowest one with a final at the end. I enjoy his class!
He's nice professor. I love the way his teaching.
Accounting is a pretty tough subject so you really have to pay attention and READ!. He gets upset if no one does the reading or can not answer his questions. He has a great personality and is very helpful and friendly. I aced the class, but I definitely worked my butt off. I would take him again. Very little HW (which help A LOT with the tests)
This class is easy... if you do the readings yourself. He offers very little to no help during his lectures but he tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests. Read and study on your own time and get an A.
I did NOT like this professor. I almost dropped his class because he was so mean and would criticize others for not knowing an answer and assumed we didnt read. How are we supposed to remember every detail? I only got an A in the class because it took many hours of studying on my own and with a tutor. I do NOT recommend him. Youll regret taking him
He will drive you crazy EVERY class, but when the class is over you will be glad you took him.
Ahrens is getting ready to retire. As you can see it in how he acts in class. If you take him for accounting. Pre study for this class as it's already hard and he doesn't make it that much easier. He does like to make jokes. Tries to make the class fun. Best thing to do. Get the book and read it!!!!!!!!!
Worst Professor EVER!!!
Accounting is a difficult subject; therefore, reading and doing the work is essential! This professor is very helpful, friendly and kind. You will definitely need to work hard, but he will help you being that he wants you to succeed. Stick with him, do the work, read the material and you will pass! He's a great teacher and very knowledgable.
READ. READ. READ. Always read before the class. Study. All the time. He expects you to read. He'll ask you questions in class regarding the chapter & if you don't read obviously he gets annoyed. I took him for winter. If he sees an improvement in test scores that helps alot! Always ask questions. He gives quizzes & tests. Just read the book!!
Dr. Ahrens' lectures are nothing to do with the work. Always got out of class early. Only reviewed vocabulary. If you don't do vocabulary don't show up to class. And if you're absent more than 3xs he'll drop you in the middle of the semester. He dropped 10 ppl within the 4th absent. Test have no to do with the vocabulary words or lecture. Read!!!
Overall good teacher. expects student to do the work he assigns (how terrible). focus on vocabulary and basic concepts for exams and you should do fine. Lectures rely on students reading beforehand, so if the class didn't read he can get pissed off. Just keep up and hope your classmates will too.
This teacher knows what he is talking about, and you will definitely learn something. He randomly calls people in class to answer his questions to make sure you understand. He does get frustrated if you can't answer, but he does care for his students in my opinion. His tests are straightforward and about the problems he goes over during lecture.
Ahren's approach to instruction is unfortunate. His lectures are disjointed. Rarely uses the whiteboard to illustrate examples. Belittles students openly. Detests answering questions regarding material he's already covered. You will have to learn subject matter all on your own. He crushed the confidence of many of my classmates. Dismal 16 weeks.
The class was challenging but if you stay on top of hw and readings you will do well. As for the professor he may seem tough and mean at first but he softens over time. He has his funny moments he also likes to troll students. If you talk to him one on one about issues you have in the class he is understanding and is willing to help. Go. to class.
If you want to teach yourself then this is the class to take. Missed 4 classes due to sickness and talked to him and he said it was fine, however was dropped the next class for missing more than 3 classes. 14 other students were also dropped and found out the day of the second to last test. Would not recommend taking this teacher for Bus Law!
Lots of lecturing, usually get out of class early. Teacher is a chill dude but if you don't know the definitions he'll hate you and you'll have a hard time. Tests every few chapters which were pretty rough. Do the definitions, homework, and study for the tests you'll be fine. Even if you study the definitions the tests are still difficult.
You will only go over vocabulary terms and will never use them. Would not recommend.
Let me start by saying Mr. Ahrens can best be described as a Tyrant. Took his class ages ago and from this page I can see not much has changed. I took his class for 3 weeks and dropped it. Was tired of coming to class with a knot in my stomach. Motivation through alienation is the best way to describe this guy. Never knew what his issues were
