Doesn't have a good teaching style for an intro Micro econ class. He is obviously used to smaller class sized because he only teaches to the first two rows of the class. I'm not very good at econ and I couldn't get to class early enough to get a front seat so office hours were necessary for me.
Class isn't mandatory, but its necessary to understand stuff. He teaches pretty good, gives lots of review questions on blackboard which are almost exactly like the tests. He's very nice & somewhat funny. Class is kinda boring but not too bad. Tests are straight from notes, but book helps to clarify. Would definitely recommend him.
Tests are multiple choice and easy if you go to class. Used the book maybe once. 85 is an A.
Difficult tests short answer type. They cover a wide range of topics all from the book. Homework are long journal summaries. Overall learned a lot about labor economics.
Worst professor I've ever had. No help on anything. Loves to hear himself speak and showcase his knowledge. Impossible tests. His test "review" is "Just study everything we've covered". No indication at all of what to study. And office hours are pointless because he will just tell you that you should know what to do. I highly recommend avoiding.
If you go to his class and pay attention, you will get an A. I don't really like econ but he makes it really clear. He's funny/ cheesy and overall a good class.
This class is easy. I never bought the $150 book and never needed it. I also went to class about 5 times and made good grades. All the information is on BlackBoard in powerpoint form. If you can get the old tests, they're the same as the new ones (2/3 of ours were). The final can be worth 100% of your grade if it's higher then all your old grades.
The class was easy. Do the practice problems on line. If you know someone with the old tests study from those. If you are not doing good in the class go to his office hours; do not wait till the end to seek help. I did not buy the book because he has power point slides of the book online. He will replace your lowest test grade with your highest.
Excellent lecturer and always willing to help students. If you just attend class and review the study material you will at least be able to get a B.
He was a really nice guy but he wasnt able to get ideas across very well. Really hard class. BARELY got a c but lukily he grades on a scale where a 60 is still a C.
I hated this class. He is extremely sarcastic and sometimes rude. Never really moves on..just goes over the same stuff over and over. I wouldn't recommend him at all. If I could've dropped this class I would have!
Class can be interesting but is not always. Overall, I learned more than I expected.
The class is easy in the sense of grading. His only interest though is his research. Don't expect help in office hours or teaching, he's only about himself. Really bad experience, guaranteed.
He is pretty entertaining sometimes but Econ is still boring.
His class was awful, he doesnt check attendance and repeats everyhting he says a lot. he uses abbreviations and the material is VERY hard. I would avoid taking him at all costs
His class is hard, but he is a good teacher. An 85 is an A. He has a 15 point grading scale. He's funny and always willing to help at office hours. Makes the material really interesting. Worth the work.
Awful. He never wanted to help me during his office hours. When I did go ask for help, he just had a huge problem about everything. I Would never recommend him at all
Dr. Seals was an excellent teacher. Yes, he is very tough and requires hard work from his students, but is more than willing to help if you go to him for extra help. I had him for Econometrics last Spring and it was my favorite class I took at Auburn. If you give it your best effort you will get a lot out of his class.
An 85 is an A, but that is all the help you will get grade wise. You have a total of 4 grades(3 exams and a final). His test are only 30 multiple choice at max so it makes it very difficult to make up for it. He is extremely repetitive with his teachings, but it is also extremely boring. If possible dont take his class, find somebody else.
DON'T TAKE! Seals moves too quickly and doesn't fully explain the example before he moves on to the next one. The first two tests weren't too difficult, but the last two tests were very hard. He wasn't helpful at all during his office hours and he acts like your wasting his time. I didn't learn in his class and it was the worst grade I've received.
He made the class overly difficult. I attended almost every class other than 3 and I struggled in the class. I made above average in the class and I still did poorly. Don't take him unless you have prior microeconomics knowledge. I regret having him as a professor.
Great class. Knowing the terms prior to the start of this class made it extremely easy, he enjoys a joking relationship with the class but primarily teaches to the first 5 rows. Attendance means nothing but it's fun to be there at times. Good luck.
I loved learning from professor Seals! He is not an easy teacher but you can tell he loves what he does. He can be funny and sarcastic and makes things interesting with his examples. Study hard and you will do fine.
Good overall, I barely did anything out of class. Maybe 2-4 hrs all semester and I did well in class. He trys to make it interesting which is helpful. I'd recommend him if your taking microeconomics
Very good teacher. Class is pretty hard but if you go to every class and study the study guides he gives you, you'll do great. Also, do EVERY homework.
The fact that his grading scale had to be changed so that an 85 is an A should automatically tell you it is going to be HARDDD! Tests are difficult, and he is very dry and hard to pay attention to.
Funniest guy.
Not that bad
Definitely a difficult class. He does try to make it fun, but Economics is just simply very dry. Go to class and read the book, and you'll be fine. Tests are TOO hard, but you will fail if you don't come to class.
Dr Seals is the king of gen ed Econ. His love of freedom, and excellent econ class, make him nothing short of a specimen of true Americanism. I'm trying to think of an image to sum up Dr Seals. Imagine a mixture between Fabio and Tom Cruise shirtless on a pedestal waving an enormous American flag in a strong wind and you'll have a pretty good idea.
The tests are very hard! It's mandatory to be in class. He makes the material fun to learn and he has good jokes!
He is an amazing professor. He also helps students who struggle. As long as you attend class you'll do fine.
I did not like this class at all. He was not clear when he explained any of his notes. All of his notes are hand written and they are hard to read. His tests are hard and do not make sense unless you know the material thoroughly. Good luck if you decide to take him.
Great professor. Funny and always kept class interesting.
If you came to college with an idea of not attending a high school class then this is the professor for you. He lectures from his own knowledge. No power points or books! He enjoys the subject and teaches it well. Attend class and take notes bc he makes the exams from his class presentations. I went to his office all the time and always got help.
Test were really hard but it was an 85 for an A and we also got 1 scaled and bonus points. Not a boring guy to listen to either.
Great Professor. He is hilarious, and keeps every class entertaining. My favorite professor at Auburn. Attend class and pay attention because tests are from lecture, and tests are the only grades. That's right, no homework! Awesome class,I highly recommend.
not bad. tests are the only grades, and they come straight from lecture. if you want to do well, attend class and pay attention. i wish there was more opportunity to boost grades, such as homework or quizzes. but he has a good grading scale.
probably on of the better economics professors to take.
Seals is the worst teacher I have had at Auburn!
got .02 away from a c nuff said
Literally all the information he posts online is relevant and helpful. If you pay attention to the lectures at all you might not even need the online notes though.
Do not take him for Micro. He is easily the hardest micro professor offered. I think he means well, but he doesn't explain the material clearly and he doesn't give any homework, so it's hard to know the types of questions he'll ask. The tests are REALLY hard. He grades on a scale which you think would be good but it will quickly crush your dreams
Do not take him for Micro. He means well, but he doesn't explain the material clearly and he doesn't give any homework, so it's hard to know the types of questions he'll ask. The tests are REALLY hard 25 questions MC. He grades on a scale which you think would be good but it will quickly crush your dreams. He's never in his office.
He tried to get class participation but failed. there are no other grades but the 4 test, so if you bum the test its not looking good. NO EXTRA CREDIT OR ROUNDING final grades. Which he noted in a very unprofessional email to his students after finals. IMO I would rearrange my schedule JUST TO NOT GET HIM AGAIN.
Do good on the first test cause they only get harder. His office hours never helped me. I would not recommend him he is not the best at explaining the topic and the tests are way to hard.
This class involves work and high attendance, but you can make it! Take copious notes-also Study Partners helps immensely. I certainly enjoyed this class, but the old tests (which he gives through Canvas) help more than class. However, you really can't skip class. Keep your head up and you can get through it!His grade curve is amazing
Sitting in class now wondering why I even came. Not a good teacher at all. Makes simple material hard to understand. Nice guy but do not take him for your own good. Not many Office hours.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Retreat now. If you miss even a few classes consider yourself screwed. He makes the material VERY difficult to understand. I studied for weeks ahead of time for tests, attended class, and still BARELY passed this course. Do yourself a favor and get out while you can
He is a very hard teacher. I would look over his old exams, and read the book vigorously if you want an A
Great guy. One of my favorite lecturers because he always keeps the material relevant and interesting. However, his tests are ridiculously hard and he believes you know the material before you truly do. He explains it well in class, but the tests are way harder than any example he uses in class. Replaces final grade with lowest test grade as well.
Worst teacher Ive had throughout my academic career. The notes he gives are terrible and the review material on canvas suck. I would not recommend taking anything that he teaches.
Dr. Seals is amazing. If you want to do well in the class and let him know that, he will help you. If not, good luck passing this class.
He acts tough but he just doesn't like to be taken advantage of; he rewards those that work hard but u will HAVE TO WORK FOR IT. One of if not the most challenging classes at auburn.
Probably the most helpful professor I've ever had. The class is hard but if you make an effort and go to office hours, he will do anything he can to help you. He just wants to see that you are trying and that you're interested in his class. He says attendance is optional but if you don't go, you'll fail. Definitely would take him again.
Weird guy. I was a first semester freshman when i took this class. Definitely not what I expected of a professor when i came to college. It takes time to do well. I went into the exam with a D in the class and read the entire book the week before the exam and somehow came out with a B in the class. It can be done. It is challenging but take Fink.
He thinks he is really funny, but his sense of humor is pretty dry. He's kind of cool and a lot of the class uses drug models. He doesn't believe in "plug and chug" and it really kills you on the tests. His "extra credit" is replacing your lowest test score with your grade on the final. He just gives basic information and expects you to apply it.
With 2 days left until the final I am still trying to figure out the best way to study for this mans tests. He provides you with review questions on canvas which you should never expect to be anywhere similar to anything you'll see on the test. Studying reviews/book/lecture notes lead you to believe you'll do well on the next test, then you fail.
His lectures are helpful so definitely do not skip. His tests were some of the hardest I have ever taken and he does not round up or curve. Get yourself a tutor and start studying for his tests weeks in advanced, and the final is cumulative. I worked my butt off to get a B in the class, and that was almost impossible. Only 3 tests and a final
Sooooooooo easy; however, be careful with his wording on exams because it can be confusing sometimes, but no more than any other professor. I never bought the book because I went to class. He puts old exams and topic reviews that are just like exam questions online. No reason to have any trouble with the class. He has dry humor so beware of that.
Worst teacher ever.... Does not care if you fail and doesn't help those who try. His averages range from the 40's to the 60's.... Majority of the class will fall within the C's...
Seals is hilarious and genuinely wants students to succeed and work hard. Definitely take him if you get the chance
This teacher used to be known for being difficult, but he has really softened up. If you go to class, it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll pass. It's honestly difficult to score below a B if you go at least half the time.
I enjoyed his class a lot. Rarely skipped class which really helped my on the tests! Def take him! You will learn a lot but you def have to work for it.
Dr. Seals seems like a very nice guy, however he does not lecture well. He tends to get off topic and doesn't follow a powerpoint or notes, making it hard to focus/understand what is going on.
He didnt use PowerPoint but he taught very clearly everything you needed to know for the test and was very responsive to questions.
great professor, he's a funny guy. But, if you skip this class you probaby won't pass. The only grades in this class are exams and they're hard. He's very nice though, I missed an exam without a doctors note and he still let me make up the exam. If you go to his office hours and ask for help he will, but I never did so im about to fail.
Dr. Seals is really funny if you're listening, which makes you want to participate in class. I had to miss a lot because of work, had a flakey ass tutor, had never learned anything Economics related in my life, and didn't even buy the textbook. He gives you a ton of resources on canvas to study which made all the difference. 10/10 would recommend
Super funny and really cares about students. The class is hard, but he does a great job of making it interesting and understandable. If you show him that you are willing to work, he will help out and most likely give you a decent grade in the end. I recommend reading the textbook for tests, it helped me a lot.
Dr. Seals is hilarious. He does a great job explaining the content but sometimes he'll get off topic when you ask him a question. He has a lot of stuff on canvas to help you practice for the test and he wants to help you during his office hours. With a little bit of studying the class is an easy A.
Seals was a very humorous and passionate teacher, however if you don't have pre-knowledge of econ, you will most likely fail. I had to drop this class after the first test because of how difficult it was.
Seals is hilarious. He spends a lot of time on all of the topics to help you better understand it. He also posts previous tests and practice problems for the various topics on canvas. Using the concepts he teaches in class and applying them to the practice problems on canvas will help ensure a good grade. Funniest professor I've had so far.
Dr. Seals is by far one of my favorite professors at Auburn. If you show up to class and pay attention, you will make a good grade. He provides lots of great resources on Canvas to study between exams.
AWFUL!!!
Dr. Seals likes what he does, which makes the class a little more beareable. He had a few tests and then the final, but there were a lot of extra credit opportunities. His lectures consist of him drawing models and definitions on blank sheets of paper, under a project, so take good notes. He only took attendance once, so do with that what you will.
Dr. Seals was an amazing teacher for my microeconomics class! I recommend taking him! The notes you take in class will help you tremendously for the exams. The only grades you get for the class are the exams and the final. He offers extra credit and is always available during his office hours! I would definitely take him again!
This guy is mean to students and others. He talks badly about other Auburn faculty, quite a bit,
Dr. Seals is by far one of the best professors I have had at Auburn. He really cares that his students learn the material. His class is lecture based, but he keeps them entertaining. You don't have to go to class, but I recommend it if you want to do well. If you go to him outside of class and put in the work, you are sure to pass.
He is a great teacher, but there is no homework, and maybe three or so exams. There is an opportunity for extra credit if you read some books and write a report. If you pay attention and take notes, you should be fine, but not the easiest class.
Seals was funny and told many stories, but his tests are very difficult. Unless you just get micro, you most likely will get a C in the class. He also talks for the full 50 minutes for every class even if you finish early. Your final grade is determined by 3 25 question tests and the 60 question final.
Professor Seals provides insufficient coverage of the material and you just have to teach yourself. His tests are completely based on trick questions and designed for you to fail on purpose. DO! NOT! TAKE!
Don't take him. He "teaches" material, but NEVER shows how to apply it to test questions. U can do all the reviews provided/old exams, but it's nothing like test questions. U think u know the material then get ur grade back & want to cry. He said he was glad the average was ~53% on test 2 bc it means his test is hard & didn't care we all did so bad
This class was graded off of three tests and a final. The test questions were MUCH more difficult than anything presented in class, in the textbook, or in the provided review material. His lectures were confusing and did not adequately prepare us for tests. I was hoping for a C, and accepting a D. But met an unexpected, unexplained curve.
He is a funny guy but he is not a great professor. He has 3 tests and a final but what he teaches you in the lectures will not help you on the tests.
This was such a fun class. Seals is hilarious and really made me want to come to class. His tests are difficult, but he helps you out a lot if you participate in class and study what he tells you for the test.
Great professor one that I will remember all of my life. Very interactive and helpful outside of class.
Professor Seals is one of the most hilarious and caring professors at this university. His lectures are entertaining and helpful and as long as you listen in class and take notes, it is almost impossible to get less than a B in this class.
Professor Seals is amazing! He was so entertaining during class and explained the material well. He also did study review sessions before all the tests and basically told us what was on the tests. Go to class to learn the material!
Professor Seals is hilarious, and I honestly really enjoyed his class. The problem is there are very few grades. I went to every lecture & read the textbook outside of class, and the highest grade I could get on one of his tests was an 80.
Seals was great. Super funny and had review sessions before each test to help out.
I don't think I could have gotten a better professor for such a difficult class. He explains the material very well and holds review sessions to make sure you succeed on tests. He was great and you would be lucky to get to take him for intermediate micro... especially if you are only taking it as a requirement
DO NOT TAKE SEALS. He lectures over the material but does not explain in depth. I had to learn the material from other teachers videos on youtube. He talks bad about Auburn faculty quite frequently. He also makes jokes and expects everyone to laugh even when they aren't funny. I would not recommend.
Seals is great. You definitely need to go to class because there isn't much on Canvas...he draws everything out on the whiteboard. His lectures incorporated understandable examples that were pretty similar to what is on exams. I definitely have a better understanding of micro after taking his class.
Dr. Seals was an amazing professor! He loved student participation in class and appreciated if you went to him for office hours if assistance was needed. Extra credit was offered and beneficial. He is very straightforward with his tests and everything is from his lectures. If you put the time and work in, you will succeed.
As long as you show up to class, pay attention to his lectures, and take notes, you'll be fine. He provides some grade cushion through topic quizzes which you get a 100 on for just attempting, and there are extra credit opportunities. The bulk of your grade comes from the final and midterm, though, so it will take effort to make a good grade.
Seals was a great professor and always made class interesting. For my section, a liberal arts only section, you were only graded on participation grade quizzes (20% of final grade) and a midterm and final. He was fairly generous with grading. The key to success in his class is showing up and participating in class.
Go to his office and show you are putting In the effort. Econ 3020 was killing me and he really went the extra mile and a half to show me what I was doing wrong.
God awful. Lectures over the material but never explains in depth. Doesn't use the right gradings in canvas so you never really know what your average is. If you are someone who needs things explained very well, this is not the professor for you. Recommends a textbook but says it isn't mandatory. Get. The. Book. It's the only thing that helped.
Professor Seals is a hilarious lecturer, but his tests are challenging. Attending class and using resources like the textbook and unstuck ai are key to doing well. His teaching style is engaging, though some find it difficult to translate to exam performance.
Lectures don't really apply to exams, but the material is easy to learn on YouTube. I didn't find his lectures helpful at all, but his grading scale is generous (85=A) and you get extra credit opportunities. Study for a week before the exam and you will do fine. He posts old exams and practice tests. Don't sit in the front.
Seals is unhinged twitter incarnate. Loved his class, though I had to work really hard (maybe that's why I loved it? and why you should take it?). If you take his class seriously, you're gonna want to switch your major to Econ (because it's actually pretty interesting).
Seals is hilarious and knowledgeable, and is great at keeping your attention during the lecture. However, there are only 3 grades in this class: midterm, presentation, and final. Going to lectures will NOT be enough to pass the midterm. You must read the textbook, since questions are difficult and open ended, and nothing like what's taught in class
Seals is an incredible (entertaining) professor who cares about his students. This is a difficult class, but he truly wants you to understand the material. There were only two grades (midterm + final). Attendance counts as 20%, occasional surprise bonus points + an extra credit book report. If you're up for the challenge, he will guide you.
Seals is an incredible (entertaining) professor who cares about his students. This is a difficult class, but he truly wants you to understand the material. Show up to office hours and express interest in the content, and he'll do a lot to help you. Gave 11 points extra credit on our final and let it take the place of our midterm. Only warning is to get the textbook, it is more test oriented than the lectures.
