boring....all essay tests....unsure of what to study....he does make some funny comments though
Only graded on three essays throughout the semester, lectures and essays do not relate to information gathered from the readings
This class was pretty tough, only 3 in-class graded essay tests, 40% 40% 20%. however if you went to his lectures, theres really little need to read the books, this guy was dead on... not a class for an easy grade, but i learned a ton.
I thought the class was easy, walked away with a B+ with minimal reading at all. Show up to class and pay attention to the lectures. Aliano manages to keep you awake because even though he just lectures, he can be funny and energetic about it.
all you have to do is go to every class and take half decent notes. he is a very good teacher and i got a good grade without buying the books. just show up to class everyday and pay attention and the class will prove informative and easy
Basically, this guy doesn't like to teach and he makes it perfectly obvious. He doesn't know how to relate to students through lecture. Instead he just talks to himself up there for hours on end, while randomly raising his voice at odd intervals - booo
Aliano is an honest guy, cant ask for much more. If hes in a bad mood, he wont fake it. This is not a drawback, its admirable. He's a fair guy, a smart guy, and if you need legal advice he's a lawyer who knows his stuff. Give him a chance, i enjoyed his class a lot.
Aliano is not a fun, interactive teacher. That's for sure. Every class was an excruciatingly boring 1 hour and 20 minutes. He would talk the entire time without interacting with the students at all. In no way did he try to make the class fun or even interesting. Very smart guy though. Show up and ta
Professor Aliano is a bit old fashioned, yes, but he is a fantastic lecturer. I suppose that one would have to be interested in what he is teaching in order to fully appreciate the way in which he does it, but for those of us who are interested, I highly suggest him.
Boring classes, very difficult tests..
Class is based on 3 essay tests. Class seemed easy at first and then got very hard. You pretty much have to guess about what he wants you to put in the essays for a good grade. Do the reading and go to class and a B is doable.
He talks monotone which makes it very hard to pay attention. Very knowledgable-would take if you are really interested in law. Difficult tests because he has a-e choices with the last two choices saying something like "only a and b" and "all of the above
His tests are ridiculously hard...he doesn't have the concept down of wording them clearly. not to mention his lectures can be awfully long anf boooooring!
funny and smart guy, but long and boring lectures. Tests were hard to understand
Best professor yet. Very funny, has a great passion for the material. Definitely my favorite prof
Boring lectures. Pretty nice guy but a bit weird. Unclear. Tests are pretty hard. Not that interesting of a class.
Absolutely love this prof, he cracks me up and he is a great teacher. Although lecture can be boring at times (federalist papers), class is usually very interesting. Exams are difficult, even if you study and read all the material, but not impossible as he grades on a scale. Hope to have him again in years to come, just a great prof.
Tests are very hard to understand and lectures can become very boring. Funny guy though, so he does have some good points.
HARD TESTS, good lectures. He grades on a crazy scale.
Good guy. His lectures are interesting the tests are really easy as long as you're not a complete idiot. I got an A- in the class and did little to no work. I recommend everyone taking at least one class with him.
Aliano likes to talk, but he definitely is a smart, smart man. I loved his course, and I can listen to his lectures because he makes them interesting...I wonder if he is married?
he's so funny...good attidude about his job, and obviously a really smart guy. Study hard for his tests, they are hard but he curves them significantly. awesome professor
This guy is amazing! Read the book and you will do fine on his tests! Go to class, he is intresting!
Aliano is the coolest person around for literally hundreds of miles.
Prof. Aliano is amazing. I had him in a small class, and even though it was still lecture style, he was so interesting and knew his stuff so well that I wasn't bored. Lots of notes, exams are HARD, so make sure you actually read the textbooks.
Possibly the best lecture I've ever had. Tests were hard though...read the book
Great professor, challenging exams but rewarding. Funny and very interesting to listen to.
The material for POLT 403 was not that interesting but he is a good professor and makes it enjoyable to some extent. READ for this class and go to his office hours. As long as you complete the reading and attend lectures the class should be a breeze
Def. one of the funnier teachers i've ever had. He does lecture, but they are very entertaining and useful. Attendance isn't really enforced, but he makes going to class worth the time! Exams can be a bit challenging, but they really aren't bad if you get to know his style.
Lectures are actually entertaining. He's really approachable too.
Aliano is funny, however can be dry. He doesn't take attendence so you don't have to go if you keep up with the reading. The tests are pretty hard, but he grades on an awesome scale.
A great professor. He is so passionate about what he is teaching, but is also one of the most hilarious teachers you will ever have. His exams are challenging but he is always available for extra help. Class can get sort of slow, simply because of the subject matter, but overall it is well worth your time.
Aliano is wonderful, probably the most intelligent teacher I have ever had. The class is difficult, but if you regularly you will do well! For an older guy, he isn't bad looking!
ole dr a is a real character! what a great teacher. he knows so much and is a clear genius. hes pretty funny and hes def fair in grading and assignments. I'd def take another few classes with the old dr a and his TA trevor mauck
Good teacher. Keeps you very interested by making you laugh. Tests are hard but he curves so don't worry. Take his classes!
I love Dr. Aliano. He is a very nice man and has a great sense of humor. I love him manuerisms and he is very attractive. He is definitly an Italian man from NY. He knows what he is talking about and he is passionate about it.
One of the best teachers i've had at UNH. Very helpful and explains most everything for the exams. He does try to trick you however so read the test questions carefully. He has little jokes that make the class a lot more interesting. 4 tests and 2 extra credit papers are what he assigns. Nice NY accent as well haha!
Aliano is easily my favorite teacher at UNH. His lectures keep you interested in the material and he is good at making things clear. He is very passionate about what he's teaching which makes you want to learn more. Class is never boring, he jokes alot and makes it interesting, even if the material is dry. His tests can get difficult but he scales.
Prof. Aliano is the man. Class is interesting, he's very enthusiastic, and he knows what he is talking about. Deff. take the class, what he teaches is very practical and helpful and you can use a lot of it in your daily lives.
Super hard!!!
Very funny, bright guy. Makes boring material more interesting.
Aliano was extremely versed on all of the information he taught us. Although, I often found the fact that he constantly talks wicked boring. He was able to put the information into real-life applications that were relatable
Super knowledgeable guy. Makes lecture not bad too attend. He's wicked funny and his thick New York accent makes his jokes better. Definitely recommend him as a professor for any POLT course.
If they ever make a movie about his guy, Al Pacino would play the part perfectly
Best professor I've came across so far. There is not one bad thing I would say about him except his texts are fairly hard. He does use a huge scale though and also gives extra credit. Went to his office to ask about an assignment and was very interested in me as a person and what I wanted to do. TAKE HIM
Very knowledgeable. What is going to be on the tests is not always clear.
Aliano is the man. He's hilarious, and that makes class enjoyable. I could really smoke a cigar with this guy. His tests are freakin hard, so study. great poli sci teacher!!!
Aliano is awesome!!! He's a very hard professor. Basically, if you don't come to class or do the readings then you shouldn't expect to get a good grade. (oops! :( ) Exams are very in depth as well. But if you're interested in Law or Politics this class is SO interesting. He tells funny anecdotes to lighten the mood and office hours are helpful. A+
HARD CLASS! Do not take unless you want to do something in this field. The exams are HARD and the scales are small so you need to do lots of studying! The lectures are fun but can be very boring at times.
Give this man a raise! He is a brilliant, engaging teacher.
Love this professor! He is straight to the point. If you do the readings in the text and scan the literature, then attend his lectures you will know what is on the test. His lectures highlight what will be on the exam. He is clear and concise. One of the best professors I've had here!
A pretty interesting lecturer. Exams are unnecessarily difficult. Might be easier if you do the reading but you don't really have to to do well. Lectures highlight exam material. Overall, not a bad professor.
The most boring uninteresting information I've ever been taught. Worst class I've taken thus far at UNH. Cool guy in general, but tests are absolutely impossible. Don't take.
To put it simply, guys a legend. On the second day of class he read an excerpt of The Godfather, a novel in which he could be a character. Smokes cigars all day, wears boss hats. Guys just all around unreal. Tests are kinda hard i guess but his lectures are clear enough to get by on notes, and if you don't go to class, you can get by on reading
Aliano is the man which is the only reason I'd ever take another one of his classes again. Exams are HARD and he's old-fashioned in the sense that he writes notes on a chalkboard and doesn't use Blackboard. Come to class, take really good notes, do the readings if you want any chance of receiving a good grade in his class.
Interesting class, but grade entirely composed of 4 exams, which are scaled but not too easy. Not great simply to fulfill a requirement but great if you are genuinely interested in politics.
Excellent course, compelling professor. Professor Aliano is very knowledgeable and it shows. Cannot wait to take more courses taught by him. He really knows how to teach a college class!!!!! Though he only bases the class on four exams, it is a valuable experience and he is pretty badass.
Dr. Aliano is a really good professor! The course can be challenging since there is a lot of reading assigned, but if you do it then you are likely succeed on the exams (there's only 4). Also, while attending lecture is not mandatory it is recommended to go because the lecture notes are important in furthering your understanding of the material.
Dr. Aliano is awesome. He's the kind of professor who seems intimidating but is actually funny, nice and cares about his students' success. Attendance isn't mandatory but it'd be hard to do well without going to class. He doesn't use Blackboard or Powerpoint, just the actual blackboard and his legal knowledge and experience. Really liked the class.
Excellent class (provided you're interested in law). Professor Aliano is one of the most knowledgeable teachers I've ever had. Funny too. His passion for the law and the Constitution is very clear and it makes you care more about the material. Midterm, final, 10 page paper and he calls on you at random to brief cases during class for participation.
Class and Professor bored me to tears.
Awesome professor. Really knows his stuff. There are 4 exams including the final. Do the reading and you will do fine.
If you come to all the classes, pay attention, take good notes, read the assignments and study for the multiple choice exams, the course is very easy - and you will learn a lot too! If you sleep, text or surf the internet during class - the course is very difficult and you won't learn much - and you will complain about how hard the exams are.
If you ever wanted to feel what it would be like to take class in the 1950's, i would recommend this class. Dr. ALiano is the worst professor i have had at UNH. He uses not lecture slides, no blackboard, no homeworks, no practice problems and no help. I have a 3.5 gpa in Engineering and i have a D in his class... Dont take it
He was a passionate and interesting professor. I genuinely enjoyed going to his lectures. His tests are hard if you don't study or attend class, but if you do both regularly you will do fine. The class only had 4 exams, which meant little other commitment that I liked, but a lot relied on those tests. He is happy to help if you ask.
If you have an interest in political thought and ideology, Aliano is your man. His lectures are very clear, engaging and inspirational. If you take good notes and read the assignments, you will have no problem getting a good grade. I highly recommend him - he is better than anything on TV or the internet.
If you're willing to read heavily and really study for tests then you may do alright. Tests are extremely hard but he scales them significantly (failed all 3 but still got a C+). There are no assignments and you really don't have to go to class except when he plays movies. Most lectures are boring and much of the material is too. TESTS ARE HARD.
Professor Aliano is by far one of the coolest professors I've ever had. He is incredibly knowledgable in his field. He can surely make the driest material interesting and always a cool story or case to share with the students. He is a bit harsh when it comes to grading, and you will be expected to do all your readings, but you won't regret it.
Awesome professor. I really did enjoy his class. His lectures were very interesting, but that might just be because I am interested in politics. It could be boring if you are not particularly interested in the government. That being said, his tests are very hard. I studied a lot and did terrible on the first exam.
Downright awesome. He will help if you ask for it. He's very old school and does not use any real technology, he just stands in front of the class and talks. If you pay attention in class and take notes, and do maybe half of the readings, you'll get a good grade
Best professor at UNH - I have taken all four of his courses. It helps to be well prepared because he will call on you, and class participation and attendance count toward a good grade. He does not want to be entertaining, but you will laugh at least once (usually several times) in each class. Highly recommend!
Alien is the goat. Quoted the Godfather on the first day. Lectures are clear cut. Nothing is online so you need to go to class. Readings are all in the syllabus. If you don't read it WILL hurt you on exam. His exams are very tough, prepare to study. All multiple choice. Only 4 exams all semester, only reading for homework. All exams get curved.
Professor Aliano is one of the best professors I have ever had. If you are interested in the law, take this class!! He is very tough, will make you work for it, but if you ask for help he is there for you. He gives AMAZING lectures, is extremely knowledgeable and very funny. Utilize his office hours, make sure you read and you will be set.
Dr. Alliano is intelligent and will pass his knowledge down if you are willing to listen and read what is given. His 400 level course he doesn't like as much so it's not a good way of getting to know his teaching skills. His harder courses are where he is passionate about and that is when he will pay more attention to each individual student.
Really cares about what he's teaching. Scary at first but super helpful in office hours. No homework or assignments really just readings and lecture notes that he bases his exams off of. Only 4 exams that make up your total grade and grades heavily on a curve
Dr Aliano is a great teacher, I highly recommend taking his classes but be prepared to work for your grade! Go to class and take good notes! Taking good notes helped immensely when it came time to study for the exams because he does a good job of making it clear in his lectures what material is most important to know from the assigned readings.
Aliano is the absolute man, chews on his cigar, wears boss ass hats, and talks like he's straight out of Brooklyn (which he is). Class is difficult, tests are unreasonably hard, reading needs to be done outside of class to excel. Awesome guy, definitely lives in an all glass house with a case full of shotguns and cigars. Overall not a bad class.
He is probably one of the hardest professors I had. His grades only are 4 exams and they are impossible to pass even though he curves them. If you want to read a lot and have your grade based on exams then take his class. I wouldn't take him again.
Aliano has a chip on his shoulder. He thinks he great and knows everything. This class is awful. Its lecture heavy and based on only four exams. Everyone fails the exams so he has to scale. Overall, did not learn a lot and caused me stress for an elective class. Would not recommend.
This was an interesting class but the exams were difficult for me. Aliano writes notes on a whiteboard, but I learned that you have to write down what he says and not what he writes. So you absolutely need to show up to class and pay attention. Unless you record his lectures, studying is impossible. Overall a decent class, just not for me.
Aliano is absolutely wonderful. I loved listening to him lecture, although I was very intimidated at first. He only uses the chalkboard: no powerpoint, or canvas. Attend class and take good notes, read before his class. Study for the tests, he makes you work for it but is always available to help you. He explains everything and gives good examples
Grade is based off only 4 tests, no assignments. Final was cancelled because he did not have enough time to cover all topics. He does not take attendance, but if you don't go you'll probably be lost. No textbook work but the textbook helps in understanding material. Nice guy but talks slowly, kinda boring. Allows papers for extra credit
The other comments pretty much sum it up.
Aliano was a great lecturer but that is all he does. If you don't show up for the class then you will have no idea what is going on in class. There are four exams which makes each one very high stakes. He says that you have to read the book but I rarely did and ended up with a decent grade. Definitely would recommend this class.
Having Aliano during my first semester of my Freshman year, Aliano was definitely the worse professor out of my other three professors. His lecturers are boring, and there's rarely any discussion. The books are garbage, and to end it, I would not recommend Professor Aliano.
Aliano is awesome! Best professor that I have ever had here. I hope he can stay here.
