Tough but fair. Test and quiz questions easily obtained in class and on the web. He makes sure you know the concepts rather than just blindly remembering meaningless facts.

He's really helpful; he always answers your questions and he's patient. If you miss a lecture he has it in PowerPoint form on his website. He encourages students to think for themselves and not be brainwashed by the book.

Great teacher, awesome friend. I barely passed, but that was my own doing. He knows his stuff, and it shows; opens up the door to diffent kind of thought, and does not limit himself!!! There for his students!

very clear in lecturing but he tricks you on the test ?s sometimes. He does grade fairly, if there's a discrepency, he will throw out the question. He's got a good sense of humor and makes the class easy to get involved with.

I thought his class was great if I missed a class he has his notes online, so you are caught up on schedule. His tests are fairly easy if you study!

He made a difficult subject exciting and fun. We went on a field trip to look at the planets. He introduced information contradictory to the text book and bypassed lessons that involved tha math of astronomy.

made the class very interesting and what he said about how he influences students to become teachers is true, because after that class, i want to become a teacher.

My only problem with this professor is the dumb digital pads he uses. There were a lot of errors throughout the semester with those things so be aware. Other then that, the class was pretty easy.

I know he is a creationist but I didn't like him pointing out all the flaws in dating systems. He is a stubborn man who will give you a lower grade if you do not agree totally with him even on the questions wwhen he asks your opinion!

Most of the information in a review of things learned during high school, but you need to put in a little bit of time to learn a few new facts. I also took his Astronomy class.

Balogh is an amazing teacher. he helps students learn, and learn to get excited about things, because of his own passion for which-ever subject. i recommend him.

I enjoyed his class, his labs were alright. He's always helpful when needed.

The class also gives helpful information that relates to real-life situations(like his Lightening lecture) He also promotes critical thinking, so that a student will learn to think for themself. I never had a more enthusiastic teacher before, this guy makes me want to learn even more about astronomy anyone who says otherwise is a loser and should drop out and work at mcdonalds or something cause he on the ball

He is a great teacher I took him for physical science and geology, he is just great. He was willing to explain things in easier terms for me to understand. He always gave many different examples that could help you understand things in the class.

Mr. Balogh is great. Although he is a creationist, I don't think he "pushes" his views upon the students. Although he shows flaws in dating methods and evolution, it should not offend students, but make them appreciate the fact that he is providing them with the information necessary to make an educated decision about how the world came to be.

Mr. Balogh, was very thorough in his instruction. He was very professional in his teaching methods and DID NOT curse and make off the cuff remarks like half the instructors at AVC do! He looked, acted, and even talked like an instructor. I took 3 different classes from him. AVC needs more like him.

This has got to be the best teacher I have encountered since coming to school. He is very thorough, clear, and responsive. He gives you the questions that will be on every quiz and every test and he grades on a curve. You feel that he actually WANTS you to pass the tests!!! He is also a pleasure to listen to.

Mr. Balogh is probably one of the best teachers at AVC. He is extremely interested in every subject he teaches and it comes through strong in his teaching. As long as you pay attention and do the helpful study guides you will pass this class with ease. He is also one of the most understanding and kind profs I've come across.

He will remind you of why you thought science was so cool when you were a kid. Took his lab and online lecture class;wish that I had been able to attend actual lectures-they were great! Has the patience of a saint. O/L class does give working students the oportunity to attend class whenever they have time- even after midnight! A+++

One of my favorite teachers!!! He LOVes what he does and it makes class fun!!! He always answerd emails and always offered make up test and assignments during his office hours. Gives open note quizzes:) Just a very down to earth, cool guy. Not an easy A...but he wants you to succeed!!!

This guy has a serious passion for science. I wasn't interested in astronomy at all before taking his class and now I can honestly say it is one of the best classes I have taken. "Class participation" is done by radio remotes, so even shy students can get those points!

I took his online course which was pretty much a cake walk, that is until it came to test times. I believe it was 3 tests, you use flashcards to practice, the quizzes were open book and untimed... plus you could take them up to 3 times to better your score. Pretty easy, just study and take notes! very passionate about science as well. :)

I took Pro. Balogh for Geography 102 online. I think this class is easier only if you have a passion for science. If not, I HIGHLY suggest taking his GEOG 102 lecture class! In this class watching the slideshows is not enough; reading the book is highly recommended! In the three tests you REALLY have to know your stuff! I liked his lectures better!

most difficult class ive taken at avc. that doesnt mean hard, it just means a great deal of effort is required compared to most of the other classes at the campus. simple take home word puzzles for hw creditshort quizzes each class3 tests. study ur butt off for tests, ALL CONCEPTS not highlighted material. know everythingi got a B and am very proud

I don't know what AVC has done to keep Mr. Balogh! I met him his first years at AVC when my parents took his night classes (late 1970s). I couldn't wait to take ASTRO, GEO and Weather with him as soon as I turned 16. I think I got Bs in all his classes but, hey, I was still in High School!! (AVHS Class of '83)

Balogh is by far the best prof I've ever had. I was not very interested at first but he brought the subject to light in a common sense and applicable approach. I studied exactly what he wrote on the board and took lots of notes, but rarely read the textbook. I nearly aced every test without any problems. He knew and taught the subject very well.

Great prof! It is obvious he cares about his students' success. He provided good information in this on-line class and is obviously passionate about the subject. He was accessible by email and Skype. I would take another class from him.

He's willing to work with you, but he's hard. Very hard to study for tests because of overwhelming amount of material. Usually covers 6-7 chapters per test, he does give flash cards, but it's a lot. If your not a geology major, or science interested; I wouldn't recommend this class nor teacher.

this class was ok i end up getting a c. but it was my fault i didnt study for test. attendance isnt really mandatory but u should go because u get class points. u take quizzes online they r easy. u have the 3 test which cover about 6-7 chapters so study. funny moments but mostly boring.he does help so ask questions he doesnt make u feel dumb :D

He does explain things pretty well, you do have to buy a book because most of what he talks about is not on the homework. The tests were kind of hard, he's a bit of a christain fundamentalist, its a little annoying.

Very Good Teacher. I am not neccesarily into this subject and he made it fun to learn about. I tested high I believe the highest in class because I took the advice he gave in his 1st lecture. Also he truly enjoys teaching, and it's obvious.

I revieved a final grade last semester (spring 2011) of 104%. He grades on a curve, so that probably made it hard for others... sorry. But I LOVED Mr. Balogh. He was a great teacher & I remember the material. I will take him again ASAP. What I liked was his unconventional thinking. As for the difficulty level of the class-- reasonable.

He talks alot but its good, hes a tad contradicting but hey whatever, he's direct on homework & questions to study for on test!! & you must be in clss every day it meets its vitial 55% of your grade vitialgrades on a scale whic is good & hes a tad off but what science teacher isnt... trust me just take him!!

anyone that says this teacher is hard is BS. quizes are based on chpt reveiw q's and you get to use them for the quiz. tests are based upon q's that he gives you about two weeks prior to the test and he chooses roughly 3-4 of those q's and you answer them. and even still, if you prove a ? was unfair/difficult he will give credit or throw out the ?

This is one of the best professors out there. He encourages students to use logic to succeed rather than try to make them meomerize the material. He explains clearly until everything is properly understood. It is recommended you attend class because if not your clicker scores will go down, however if you actually pay attention in class <A+

Amazing teacher! You MUST do your homework and study for the exams, but they are easy! He explains everything well and has a nice sense of humor. Be there EVERYDAY since 55% of the grade is in class. Keep an open mind, be sweet to him and laugh at his mild jokes, you will have a great time.He loves science and Geology, so thats a plus! A+ teacher!

This was the most interesting, awesome class I have taken yet! Geology is not my major...but he kept me interested the entire semester. I recommend this teacher to anyone! I even kept the textbook and my notes!

This class was interesting. Mr Balough is a good teacher. He started a new teaching technique with this class and you can tell he wasn't completely polished with the new method. But he tried to work with all the students and seemed very knowledgeable and excited about geology. The last 6 weeks of class Mr. Coffman took over.

Easiest class I have taken. If you get a question wrong on a quiz he will work with most and give you credit. Definitely a must to go to class. Quizzes are easy and the final is over class notes. He tells you what is on the final.

Professor Balogh was an awesome professor. He focused his class on thinking, so even if your answer was wrong, he would give partial credit if you could defend your answer with critical thinking. I took him for two classes and he was the best professor I had at AVC.

He stated the first day of class that he wanted to be the greatest instructor I'd ever have. A year later I'd say that he did indeed deliver. He till this day inspires me to do better in every possible aspect. I don't really use the geology material but his causality lecture is something I use daily. The course was indeed very profitable.
