Good Teacher that shows you the right way to do stuff, would reccomend to a friend.
He teaches this class with Will Schleter. Pretty easy; this class is a lecture on MWF and a lab on TR. Go to lectures and the lab and you can learn everything from them. Overall a good introduction to Physics and Engineering.

Mr. Bennett is the nicest professor i have ever had. he is incredibly helpful and is willing to assist you in anything that you might need. I definitely reccomend him.
He is a co teacher with Prof. Schleter. These two ROCK! Cheesy engineering jokes to make you laugh (not because they're funny, but the lameness is borderline hilarity). Had him for 151 as well. Need a clicker for lecture. But pay attention in lecture, ask him questions. Guaranteed A.
Good professor. Gets annoying at times, but he will help if you ask for it. He is a great upgrade from Dr. Arazi. He is not very helpful on the discussion board, but he is a good lecturer.
He is definitely a sharp person. I love how he presents the material, and that he is very willing to help you. Engineering is hard enough, he helps takes some of the edge off. He also explains the theories is an easy to swallow manner.
Definitely the better of the two teachers between him and Dr. Arazi. Helps on discussion board and explains things during lectures very well. makes tough engineering tolerable. very enjoyable and great teacher
Richard Bennet. This man is the epitome of everything good in the world. He's never missed a lecture, and he's never said something that wasn't genius or hilarious. Every day his words would pour over me in a never-ending Bennet-shower. Highly recommended.
He team teaches with Prof. Schleter and I think the pair was awesome for EF. They taught what you needed to know and didn't dwell on the extra information like some profs, so tests didn't throw curve balls. Come to lecture and keep up with the homework and you should be fine.
Dr Bennett is a quiet spoken man with still waters that run deep. He is was of the best Lecturers I have had at UT as a Senior. His physics knowledge is immense and helpful.
TAKE HIM!!!!
He is amazing! Dr. Bennett is the reason I love physics now. =)
One of the greatest proffessors ever.
Dr. Bennett is one of the best instructors I've ever had. Funny, intelligent, and actually able to teach the material... Dr. Bennett and Professor Schleter are a great teaching combination. They can even make boring concepts entertaining with their corny jokes and overall goofiness.
EF can be a hard class and requires a lot of time, more than other classes. Homework is the worst part and can get to the point where you cant figure it out all on your own but i guess engineering is hard but it pays. Bennett is a great teacher though. Hes a nice genuine guy and easier to listen to compared to other professors, hes a fun teacher.
Amazing teacher! Makes class fun and enjoyable to go to. The homework is hard but they're are plenty of resources to help you! Genuinely nice guy! Take his class :)
He is a great teacher!! His humor makes class enjoyable. The way he taught made me interested in physics!
Dr. Bennett is funny, and no textbook is required. Lectures are recorded and posted online, but attendance is mandatory. Homework is everything! This is a weed-out course for engineers, so there is a lot of hw and projects. The tests are HARD so study and make good equation sheets. If you do the homework, it will help tremendously.
Awesome teacher! He's there to help you. You can stop by his office and ask him anything. Super cool guy
Good teacher. knows what he's talking about. can be boring to listen to at times but most of the time is fairly interesting. attendance to lecture is not mandatory but often taken by clicker questions. lab is mandatory. If you're taking EF 151, go to lecture and prepare to work. weed out class for engineers
Good teacher. usually very clear and obviously knows his stuff. Hard class but definitely not impossible. Overall a pretty great teacher.
Such a nice, goofy guy. Very smart and always willing to help. The EF department is great. Hardest class I've taken, but it's manageable if you actually DO the work. TESTS ARE HARD so homework, participation, and projects will save your grade. Love engineering!
Such a great professor. You could tell he really loves what he is teaching and does such a great job doing it. If you do the homework (which is required) and do the practice exams the class isn't too hard. Very interesting topics and fun to learn in this class.
Definately knows what he's doing, but seems to skip over some important information sometimes. Do the homework early and study for the tests and you'll be fine.
He is such a great professor. The Bennett/Schleter combo in this class made it my favorite class I've taken so far in college. You can definitely tell that he loves what he is teaching. If you go to the lectures and do the homework, you should be fine.
Easy class, great intro to engineering
Dr. Bennett is awesome. The class is so much fun and is pretty simple. Do your work and ask questions if you are unsure about anything. He is always willing to help. Great class and great professor. My favorite classes so far and will probably remain that way.
Dr. Bennett is truly a remarkable guy. He constantly cracked me up in class. Most people make fun of his voice but I love it. Great engineering jokes, great guy, challenging yet rewarding class.
My favorite professor ever. Dr. Bennett makes engineering physics as easy as it possibly can be. He's hilarious and helpful, and he makes everything exceedingly clear. When teamed up with Schleter, he's even better. If you're stuck on the fence between 151 and 157, take 151 with Bennett and Schleter. You'll be glad you did.
I got to know Bennett a little this semester, I had to come in for a makeup test and got to talking a little and found out he used to be involved with the band at my high school. He's a great professor, and an even better person. He and Schleter are a great pair, they make that class very fun. You won't regret taking 151 with them.
Great teacher!! He and Schleter make the letcures really fun, and I really understand the lectures when he is teaching.
He is an excellent professor of a pretty difficult course.
EF is one of those classes that gives you a broad overview of the physical world. It will only give you a general knowledge of many aspects of physics so it sometimes feels like a waste of time. However, Bennet was a good professor. I personally did not need extra help in this course but I know he is there for his students.
Awesome guy. He has a sense of humor during lectures and has a nice style of teaching that combines examples with concepts.
Bennett Is the man! He is hilarious and is the only one you want to listen to in Lecture. Keeps things funny and interesting.
The trio of 152 teachers (Biegalski, McCord, and Bennett) are all great. Enjoyed the class. Bennett is probably the funniest out of the bunch.
Bennett saved my life. When Bennett lectures, physics becomes so clear to me.
Bennett is probably my favorite professor. He is sweet, funny, and intelligent. McCord, Bennett, and Schleter work great together. Class is difficult, but Bennett is worth it
Bennett is very intelligent and this definitely hows in his lectures. Overall a great guy and teacher!!!
Easily the funniest guy out of the bunch in lecture. Always helps me understand any problems I would have anything. Very nice guy and intelligent. Everyone respects and loves him! I hope that I get him for another class in the future.
Bennet is great and really cares. The class is tough and material is sometimes hard to follow, but the class is set up for you to do well. Do the hw early for extra credit, pay attention, and take a few of the practice exams they give you and you will do fine on every test
Was very accessible outside of class, and assisted me personally with choosing my major. Lectures, homework, labs, and exams were all very well designed and executed.
Dr. Bennett was awesome to have in lectures. He knew how to make EF 151 fun and how to teach all 600+ of us the important concepts with great examples and demonstrations in front of the auditorium.
Bennet's a great guy and professor, this is just a demanding class. Not that bad if you do the homework and study using the practice tests.
Dr. Bennett is by far one of the best professors UT has. He made the lectures as entertaining as physics can possibly be. The class is pretty difficult (lot of work but not too hard material) but he and Dr. McCord give you every possible chance to succeed. All of my future professors will be compared to him.
Dr. Bennett really cares about your success as an engineering student, but also as a person. He is very willing to help if you ask, and makes learning material on an individual basis easy (105). In the large lecture (151), he is very personable in front of the class and takes time to answer questions. He also wrote most of my exams, not too bad.
Hes a nice and approachable guy. Its a dual professor lecture, and he does a much better job of connecting with students than Mccord, but with it being such a large lecture, its easy to get distracted in class and really connect with whats being taught. They do decent with the time they're given and the amount of students, but still just mediocre.
He is a great funny guy. He is always available to try and help out his students. He wants you to pass. He is pretty funny in lectures. He even checks up on all his 620 students.
Very fun and accessible for any question you may have. Does everything with a smile and is very knowledgable with coding and excel. Would definitely take again. Likes dark chocolate.
Get ready for some work. EF 151 is notoriously a weed-out class. If you're ready for the work, the class is a breeze. Do what you're supposed to and you'll get an A. Go to lecture. Do the homework ahead of time. Be on top of your work and deadlines.
EF 151 is a tough class. If you've never had physics, it's much more difficult. The lectures are not bad, but there are a lot of clicker questions. The homework also takes a lot of time. Use the discussion board to help with it. The exams are difficult, and working old exams does not usually help a lot. Just know the concepts really well.
Professor Bennett made a basic level class very interesting and sometimes even fun. He was goofy and funny but seemed like a genuine guy which can be hard to do in a 620 student lecture hall. I highly recommend him and wish I could have him for 152.
Bennett is entertaining when discussing dry topics in the class, which helped keep my attention. Tests are graded in a fair way, giving lots of partial credit for showing the correct work.
Engineering Fundamentals at UTK has three different professors: Schleter, Bennett, and McCord. Typically Bennett and McCord tag team a class and Schleter takes the other. Bennett is an older guy with some spring in his step. He seems to care about his students and typically takes care of the online help. Wish he taught a class of his own.
Do the homework or you will NOT do well in the class. You have to go to lecture because clickers but you only need a 75% on clickers to get a 100. If you go to class lectures make sense. Lab sucks but you gotta go. Group project is worth a lot but is easy if you and your team puts in the effort. Tbh would marry Dr Bennett in a heart beat <333
Awesome with flexibility an made the class interesting
Amazing professor! He makes boring topics seem much more entertaining than they actually are. The homework in this class is a MUST. If you dont understand a problem, there are numerous resources to get help - his office is one of them. His door is ALWAYS open, and he is always willing to help.
Hes a very charismatic and knowledgeable character.
This dude is the goat.
Doctor Bennett made class enjoyable
Hilarious dude that explains the material well.
The textbook is free, they dont teach the material super well because the homework is extremely difficult. However it is 35% if your grade and important. They put a lot of stuff you wouldnt initially know on the homework and the test making it hard but you can get the points back by doing homework early
Literally my favorite professor of my life, honestly considered switching majors just to get in his class again.
He is absolutely amazing and makes physics interesting. He responds to emails right away.
EF 151 can definitely be a tough course if you have no background knowledge from high school physics. Dr. Bennett is a great teacher and is a pretty nice guy. The course has a lot of homework and make sure to do it the same day as the lecture for 110% credit. The class overall is not super hard if you study the principles and do the homeworks.
Overall, he was a great professor who explained the material well. He did assign a lot of homework, but it was needed to understand the material. He also answered student questions well. He also posts the video lectures online, so if you absolutely can't attend a few classes you can still do well.
Dr. Bennett is one of the greatest and kindest professors that one can have. He truly cares about each and everyone of his students. He explains the hardest of concepts in a way that allows for students to learn, and he is always more than willing to answer questions and provide help. Attend the lectures & do homework, and you'll do great!
you can tell he actually enjoys teaching. the hw can be a lot but the questions can be humorous at times and you can always get help through the discussion board. this class is engineered to help students pass but the material and exams can be tough. it's a weed-out class for sure.
Dr. Bennett is really nice and always willing to help. EF 151 is definitely doable because your grade also depends on homework, learning, and lab attendance. There's homework at least three times a week, but it's all online and you get extra credit for completing work early.
Amazing guy overall. He loves what he does and is willing to meet with you outside of class to discuss things. He really wants to see every student succeed.
Absolutely loved Dr. Bennett in 151. Really does everything he can to help the hundreds of engineering students succeed and explains things in a very easy to understand way.
Overall, EF151 is a very tough course no matter the professor. The lectures are not very beneficial but there are clicker questions, which means you could skip if you want. There is a ton of homework, so make sure you stay on top of it and don't fall behind. Labs are not too bad, assuming you get a pretty chill TA. Exams are super hard, so study!
Dr. Bennett is an amazing teacher. It's not an easy class but he makes it to where if you want and try to do well, you will.
BENNETT IS THE GOAT. His design for teaching Physics & Engineering his genius. He is so kind, funny, and caring. You can't NOT love him. I had him for EF151&152. No matter which professor you're with, it's all going to be the same work. Bennett was always free to ask questions and wanted to form relationships with his students.
he really made my first year engineering classes enjoyable. super pleasant to talk to if you need help in or out of class, would take again and again
He's what makes the engineering department at UTK amazing and complete. It was a joy to sit through his lectures.
Great guy
Good teacher
He's a good prof but you will have to work for your grade
Dr. Bennett is perhaps the unanimous favorite professor for freshmen engineering students. He keeps the class funny and makes it enjoyable with cool demonstrations. He is the first requirement for engineers but everyone would take him over and over again.
He made this class so fun to take. This class is pretty hard, especially when it is 400+ people, but he does his best. The TAs are easiest to reach, but Bennet himself is good at communicating. Homework 3 times a week, but it is the same schedule, so you get used to it. Exams are 40% of your grade! Seriously love Bennet though!
Experienced in teaching this class. The mind behind most of it. Call it a weed out or whatever. Class is hard, maybe not for some, HS prep, team projects are the worst. Tons of work. Star wars anology Dr Bennett is Yoda. Engineer u want?
This is a tough class. There is a lot of homework, and it might be a weed-out class; however, Dr. Bennett makes it worth it. You have to stay diligent. He's an amazing lecturer and surely knows what he's talking about. He is fun and personable. Highly recommend Dr. Bennett.
Prof Bennett is a beauty. He is very caring for all his students and even in a 400+ student lecture, he will stay after class until all questions are answered. The class is hard but there are many opportunities for extra credit and homework/prep material are easy ways to bump grade.
I love this man with all my heart. The material can be a little bit tough if you didn't take physics in high school but if you did, you can get an A with your eyes closed. Very good demonstrations of concepts in lecture. Get ready for some very specific references to Shoney's in your practice problems.
Great professor, but very hard class. Theres a lot of unnecessary homework, the exams are very hard, the labs are pointless, but its must if you want to be an engineer.
Great professor. He is very passionate about the subject he teaches and wants to help you learn and understand the material.
Dr. Bennett is great, his lectures are easy to follow. The homework is not overwhelming by any means, there is a lot of it, but it is on a regular schedule and you can work ahead weeks in advance. He is also pretty funny, he tells a lot of corny jokes but they will elicit a small chuckle.
Dr Bennett is honestly an amazing professor. Its a difficult class in and of itself but hes very helpful. Lots of extra credit if you know where to find it.
Great professor and all around wonderful guy. Makes his lectures fun and explains everything very well.
This guy rocks. I mean seriously, I could not have asked for a better professor than Dr. Bennett. The class website tells you everything you would need to know for homework and exams, and you very rarely have to see outside sources for help. Overall makes concepts very easy to understand and implement. Not bad!
Best professor in the school. Dr. Bennent is a great teacher and if you try in class the class should be easy.
This was my second time with Dr. Bennett, as I had him for 151. He is really good at what he does, and wants you to learn and do well in his class. As long as you show up to class and do the homework the tests aren't too bad either. He also comes by the study room every so often to help you with your homework.
I am obsessed with this man! He has a 5 on rate my professor and he deserves it! He genuinely enjoys teaching the class and is available to meet with if you are worried about tests or assignments. This class is one of my favorites because of Dr. Bennett. You are lucky if you get to have him as a professor and I am going to miss him as my professor!
Dr. Bennett is such a great professor. Always happy with a smile on his face. He is happy to help you through homework and prep material. He wants everyone to do well and it shows. Great lectures and throws jokes in. I wish he could teach all the engineering classes.
Probably my absolute favorite professor I've had so far. This dude will try to explain the material to you in so many ways and won't leave your table until you understand the concept.
One of the best professors around! He is fun to listen to and makes lectures interesting. I would recommend him!
Bennett knows what he's teaching and he teaches it with grace. All the lessons for EF151 are completed digitally before class, but he still contributes to understanding with demonstrations and concept explanations during class. Couldn't imagine a better teacher for a challenging class like this.
This is the most precious man ever. He is very kind and will answer any question you have. He is not only intelligent but cares about his students. He is super good at explaining confusing topics.
I LOVED Dr. Bennett. He genuinely cares about his students and will always walk around talking to them before class. He is beyond helpful when you have a question and helps guide you through the answer so that you are capable of doing the work on your own when he is not with you. Anyone would be lucky to have him as their professor!!!
Best professor thus far.
Definitely a difficult class but I had a lot of fun. Doctor Bennet is really great and teaches not because he has to but because he wants to. He cares a lot about his students and their success in the class.
Just overall a good professor his class is semi-difficult because of the insane amount of homework but he makes it easy to understand
As long as you do the assignments on time and show up to the lectures you shouldn't have any trouble with his class.
I LOVE Dr. Bennett! He is really caring and easily accessible. He genuinely wants to see his students succeed, and even in classes with 100 students he will likely know you by name or at least recognize you and remember you. DO NOT fall behind. This class is difficult and you WILL fail if you don't do the homework
Dr. Bennet is the best professor I've ever had at UTK
Just a really funny, charismatic professor that helps so much when the class is pretty difficult. This is a lot of work, it will take up most your time but it's not something you'll ever dread going to. Stay on top of things and don't be afraid to ask questions. Bennett and the GTA's are super smart and patient when addressing questions.
Professor Bennett is an extremely knowledgeable professor that has a good sense of teaching introductory physics topics that are prevalent in this course. EF 151 and 152 require a vast deal of work outside of class, but he tests reflect the clickers and homework very well. Just prepare to devote time and resources to this course.
The EF department at UTK is really good overall. The EF websites are comprehensive and provide great content. Dr. Bennett is a decent prof but not very caring or understanding when it comes to extenuating circumstances. I would avoid drawing attention to yourself or providing more info than necessary on assignments or in conversation.
Chill mfer, never a bad class with Dr. Bennett lecturing.
Dr. Bennett is a great professor and a kind man. The material isn't necessarily easy, but he is aware and always willing to help. There isn't one bad thing I can say about this man. Absolutely recommend.
Dr. Bennett was probably the best professor I will ever have. He was caring and was sure to answer all of my questions. There was lots of homework but that is because of the course, and not particularly the instructor. So thankful for him.
dr bennett is the nicest man ive ever met
Dr. Bennett is extremely nice and very knowledgeable. The class can be difficult and a lot of work; however, that is just the way the course is set up. This class is sort of a reverse classroom, meaning you learn the material by yourself then practice/review it in class. I would definitely suggest taking it with Dr. Bennett!
Choose this Professor.
Very funny and speaks calmly. Explains concepts properly and simply. The best EF 151 professor out of all of them.
Da goat fr
He is such an amazing, kind, and funny professor. He is great at explaining concepts, answering questions, and keeping students engaged during lectures. This man is amazing so TAKE HIM!!
He's awesome! Super friendly, and really has a passion for what he teaches.
Genuinely the best professor I have ever had, the day he retires the entire world with slowly stop revolving to shed a tear. He is extremely approachable and understands physics to a captivating degree, taking professor Bennett will make physics so much easier and understandable.
Absolutely amazing professor. He was able to deliver the content in an easy-to-understand, efficient, and interesting way. He's a great person in general, super accessible, light-hearted, and funny. I loved his class and would take him again in a heartbeat.
The class itself is horrible, but he makes it slightly better. TESTS are here to SCREW you!
if you go to class and take good notes you will be fine. taking good notes during the prep is essential. Dr. Bennett is awesome. such a sweet guy. he always tells good dad jokes and cares about his students.
Love Dr. Bennett, did a lot of hands-on demonstrations. Very funny, and loving guy he makes lecture fun to show up to and listen. He's willing to help if you ask him.
An amazing human, so fun to talk to and I felt like I learned so much in lecture.
If you get the opportunity to have Dr. Bennett, take it. He is the sweetest, most caring, and funny professor! This class is hard by default and has a ton of homework, but he does an amazing job at making the material easy to understand.
As a professor, Dr. Bennett is great! He cares a lot about his class and he pays attention to the individual students despite the amount of students in the class. He is probably the best professor for EF151. Unfortunately, tests made me reconsider my decision and led to my switch outside of TCE. Therefore, I don't recommend taking the class.
Professor Bennett is an amazing, engaging lecturer who breaks down concepts clearly. The class has a lot of work, but using resources like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook really helps. Definitely take this class if you can - you'll learn a ton!
Dr.Bennett is the greatest teacher I have ever had. I loved talking to him in class, his lectures were interesting, and he is simply an amazing person. Every EF professor is fantastic from what I know, but Dr.Bennett surpasses the already high bar. Dr.Bennett is the goat and the best to ever do it.
Dr. Bennett is a great professor and is friendly; he tries to individually help students even though he has a large lecture. He is very accommodating, but assigns lots of homework (which is helpful sometimes). Attendance is mandatory. Labs are taught by graduate TAs. The tests are pretty difficult, but you can submit grade appeals.
Super sweet and a great professor, loved him!
Dr. Bennett was a very good EF professor. His lectures tie very well with prep and practice homework. His exams are tough, but he explains things very well. He is retiring, so he will sadly not be teaching 152 :(
Dr. Bennett is a fantastic physics professor who will spend time outside of class to work with his students.
Can't go wrong with EF 151 professors, but if you have the chance to get Bennett, take it.
