Quality is a lot of work with Biehl, but if you put effort into it you will do well. Dr Biehl is very helpful during office hours. Only bad part about the class that is mandatory discussion postings that are a pointless hassle.
This guy has a unique method of teaching. You need only to write essays weekly for different topics. You will not learn anything from him at all. "A" grade is easy if you follow his instructions. He talks about Six Sigma, Health Management and Inventory Management. Nothing related to Management Information System.
This is my second course with him. I know what he looks for. Post discussion weekly and write a big report to him. He talks about Six Sigma and Lean Enterprise which are not related to the course. Don't waste your money to buy a book!! I recommend to take Six Sigma course with this course at the same semester. Use the same project for both courses.
Dr. Biehl's lectures were clear and rarely wasted time. He does do pop quizes but they are great ways to assess your understanding of the material and prepare for the exams. Two tests, one paper, some homework, discussion boards for weeks with no homework, and a final. His expectations are clear--follow them and you will do great in this class.
Gives quizzes, so go to class. The quizzes are really easy. Hands down one of the most involved professors at UCF. He loves his students! I wish I could take the remainder of my classes with him. High reccomendation. Do not buy text book. But read his extra articles!
He expects a lot of participation in discussion posts and weekly readings. The course is writing intensive but he is a fair grader. He really cares about his students and takes his time to provide thoughtful feedback.
The class material is very interesting and Dr. Biehl draws from his real-world experience in his lectures. He's very easy to understand and is a fair grader. I enjoyed both the class and Dr. Biehl.
Favorite professor so far at UCF. Very good and clear style of lecturing if you actually pay attention. Really cares about the course and his students. But prepare for lots of homework, although you learn from it and it isn't hard. Easy A if you do most of the work, as he curves hard in the end. Look forward to taking him for systems
One of the best professors I've had. Very professional, and his exams are fair. Gives you a little summary of how each exam is like. Go to his office if you need help, he's always willing to help. A lot of homework and writing, but they're easy. Do them - they help your grade a lot. You get graded on the online discussions as participation.
Took him for quality in fall, now taking for systems in spring. Learned a lot, but instructions for projects were so vague no one knew what to do. Before regrades, average on projects of below a 50. 2x as much work as all your other classes combined (I was taking 15 credits including dynamics). But if you do the work, with regrades you get an A
Best course I took so far, learned a lot, enormous practical relevance for industrial engineers. You will have to work hard, but it is worth it. Interesting lecture and textbook. Extensive class project, but you have lots of freedom in completing it. Clear criteria, helpful guidance, and fair grading. Great instructor and personality.
One of the worst professors I have had. First, after lecture he makes you retype your notes and submit them for a grade which is worth 20% which is annoying because all students take notes differently and it is hard to take notes when all you do is stare at excel spread sheet. Also, no explanation for grading which makes it difficult. So yeah...
I never really enjoyed statistics, but his lectures definitely piqued my interest in the subject. He likes to focus more on the conceptual side of statistics rather than technical, which I think makes this class easier.
Conceptual and practical understanding is stressed in lectures and exams. Thankfully, doesnt burden lessons with nonessential mathematics. Lectures explain and actually expand upon textbook material. Clear enthusiasm for subject and teaching.
He made the material so easy to understand.
Took over summer, so the accelerated pace didnt help the discussions, outlines, and homework that had to be done. He is very clear in explaining what he expects of students and material on test. I hate stats, but did really well in this course.
Overrated. He's a decent lecturer, but he gets wrapped up in the pedantic details of concepts way too often. He also gives an excessive amount of work - weekly discussion posts (usually two), individual assignments, group assignments, and much more. He knows his stuff but he doesn't know how to make it interesting. The class feels like a chore.
A lot of assigments, discussion, project every week. Reduce your grade for not participate enough in the project.
Dr. Biehl is my favorite professor at UCF. There are a lot of assignments (they aren't hard) but looking back I understand and appreciate exactly what each one was teaching us. If you put in some effort or interest, you will get a TON out of this class. Talk to him outside of class, he is incredibly smart and has a fascinating life/career story.
He is BY FAR the most passionate professor I have ever met. His class is a lot of work, however, you actually learn a lot in this class and he is very fair with grading. He is very helpful, and willing to support you if you are having trouble understanding. I wish every professor was like him. He is a gem to UCF and the BEST professor I ever had!
He's a good guy and good professor. But he treats undergraduate classes like graduate classes. There is a HEAVY amount of work, i.e. one week we had 3 homework's, 4 discussions, 2 project assignments and a quiz. The work isn't difficult but it's a lot and very time consuming. It's not hard to get a decent grade but this class takes your life over.
Be prepared for lots of HW, discussion posts, reading and a semester long project. If you do what is expected from you, u should be able to get an A. Gives good study guides for quizzes, tells you what is going to be on exams. He is very nice if you go to office hours and ask for help, but expects a lot from you as well.
This teacher only teaches online classes and I worked for 3 plus hours on the first assignment for the first week of school on a Tuesday. If you want a lot of reading and writing, take this class, if you actually want to be taught the class, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Dr. Biehl is a great professor. He's passionate and dedicated to his students. But he makes the class very difficult, the tests are mostly free response and there are trick questions. If you take him, be prepared to spend at least 5 hours a week outside of class working on homework, projects and papers. If you have a heavy semester, don't take him.
Clearly knows what he's doing, but if you don't get it he's not very nice. Not hard to get an A but it's very helpful if you have some background in Statistics already
Dr. Biehl is very deluded when it comes to his expectations of his students. He believes that his class should be one of the most rigorous in your schedule even though the material is not overly difficult. The discussions feel pointless because no one tries on them. I don't blame them. If you want to learn, take this class in person.
Most of the assignments are discussion, but the tests are all math, the material we focused on didn't prepare me for the exam. I didn't really get much teaching- mostly read on your own, talk among yourselves, and figure it out (online course). He is really responsive to questions, but comes across as rude.
Primarily an online professor and therefore organizes his physical classes like online classes. Be ready for lots of discussion posts. Take this class if you want to learn how to discuss stats opposed to actually learning stats. Lectures are impossible to take notes on. Not a bad guy just not my preferred teaching method. Not hard, just a grind
above all, dr. biehl wants you to learn how to use and interpret statistics in the world of engineering. he gives a LOT of work (about 3-4 discussions/week plus hw) but very lenient and understanding with deadlines. use the discussion boards/office hours to ask questions. too much work for the subject material in my opinion but very easy to do well
Successful and caring person. He is a great listener and has engaging lectures. Group projects, lots of readings, but you won't even notice because it's fun.
Took stats with him. Gives a huge work load and unreasonable deadlines that suit his time table. Assignments take hours to complete and the class is hard. He is not student oriented. I would not recommend him.
His final exam is not the way he described. He said it would be like the Midterm, and based off of assigned homework- it was not. He assigned random homework problem-based questions. He gave no review, and only told us the test was cumulative two days before. He focuses too much on a final video project. I would not recommend this course with him.
Dr. Biehl's online class was primarily focused on discussion and a video project he had us do. We had a homework assignment based on calculations about once a week, and this prepared us for the midterm. However, he did NOT prepare us for the final or give us review, causing many people to have low or even failing grades. Few clear grading criteria.
Requires a ridiculous amount of discussions for his class. This is a statistics class not a writing class. It takes several hours to complete these discussions. Following the rubric to get full points (i.e. to get full points you need 2 posts and 3 replies) makes him upset because you're doing the "bare minimum" and doesn't give full credit.
I took him for Statics and Probability for engineers and its supposed to be a math class yet we have to write 4-6 discussions a week plus math homework of course. He's one of those professors who thinks their class should be your top priority and when you have to work and have other classes it's hard to have these types of professors.
I want to try and actually learn Statistics, but this guy doesn't really teach it. Makes you read the textbook and go to any outside help you can get your hands on. The workload is crazy with 5 discussions per week with 2 responses, homework due every Sat., and a video project due at the end of the semester. Run away, if you can!
Do yourself and a huge favor and take this class. It is work, I wont lie. But if you can set aside 4 hours a week and really dive in you'll do just fine. Honestly one of the best classes I've taken. Clear expectations. graded on a lot of things. Time management if also key.
Best professor I ever took in my whole life. There are A LOT of homework, discussion posts and a very long project. He allows resubmission and the grades are fair. If you do everything the way he asks, easy A.
There are no real lectures, you read it all and watch little clips. Discussions are due at 9PM on Wednesdays. There is no real guidance for the final. The project is however rather reasonable. The only good thing was that it was online and can be completed at your pace.
Very reasonable, you can learn a lot, or just get chegg for a semester... Very fair, pretty solid course
This online class really makes you work for it. It was not hard, but VERY time consuming. He is very responsive and the clear structure of the class makes it easy to keep up with. I ended up doing very well in the coursework that he exempted me from the final, which was amazing. Definitely worth taking.
There are discussion posts that require you to think about the material, and it really isn't hard to do. Also, because Mr. Biehl allows you to use online calculators and tools on top of Excel during exams and assignments, this class becomes a lot easier. Almost 50% of our class got an A along with 35% getting a B. The time put in was worth it.
Decent Professor but wont round up...... 89.93 B Discussions matter a lot and midterms mean the world.
I got an A on this course without putting much effort. Honestly 39 discussions in a semester plus assignment and a midterm are annoying but if you have an A in this course he exempts you from final. The only bad thing is he either doesnt respond your emails or is extremely rude when he does.
The discussion posts weren't that bad, as long as you fully participate in them. Information found in his videos and in his textbooks can be helpful for the discussion post and homework. Exam questions are similar to homework, so it's helpful to save any calculation that you did. It's also helpful to practice using Excel while doing the homework.
Easy, but this class and professor is the definition of tedium. You have to find a way to make 2 responses in discussions, despite the fact every student pretty much says the same thing. Not to mention he's an insane stickler for rules on.... pretty much even the most mundane of assignments
The course's online, so the time's flexible. I don't like how this is a self-taught course with minimal professor's involvement. What's the point of paying professors of such courses the same as professors who spend time teaching and explaining everything? Self-taught courses such as this, should be free for students. He is rude btw.
This class has a lot of work to complete for each unit. A lot of times the provided textbook makes concepts more difficult than they really are. If you can, take the class in person. A lot of the assignments in the online course feel pointless. My biggest tip is to use excel to do the homework. If you save the files, you can use them on the test.
Honestly regret taking this over the summer. Stats ended up being more interesting than expected. Almost a self-study. It's up to you if that's a plus or not. The discussions sounded tedious (2 replies without always agreeing) but I never got docked when I did. HW varies from lengthy to trivial. Knowledgeable, very helpful. Definitely recommended.
I dont like the idea of an online course where its extremely self taught. The information wasnt very difficult to comprehend, and the class wasnt hard, but if Im paying money to take a class, I expect to actually learn from the professor Im studying under. That said, his class is very well structured for what it was, and expectations clear.
Anybody who says this class is well structued is kidding themselves and probably used Chegg for everything. Ive taken about 35 college courses, and this was the worse. I have had some bad profs, but this guy takes the cake. His course makes very little sense, he never teaches. That said, its online and you can get away with using chegg
Sometimes the feedback doesnt make sense and hes very picky when he doesnt need to be.
He assigns a ton of work every week. One week I had 3 discussion posts, 2 assignments, 2 classwork activities, AND a big project deliverable. He gives a lot of essay questions. He grades very harshly and there's no rhyme or reason to his grading. He demands your entire schedule and then gets offended when the class can't keep up. AVOID THIS MAN
EASY A. People complain about the work load, but those are the same people who did not want to spend even 20 min for this class a week. I spent about 1.5 hour a week for this class. Do the work, all of it, and you will receive an A. Pink swear. The midterm is hella easy, final is a bit tougher. Just do the work, its easy.
Easy A. I didn't enjoy the class at all, but I love getting A's. Biehl is a good dude who does his best to make sure that we learn. You can't grind out the entire class at once. Every week, there are new assignments. It's a pretty sizable work load, but nothing is very hard.
A very condescending professor. Claims to promote the love of statistics while not being responsive to students' questions or being passive aggressive. I personally didn't ask him questions, but I did sign up for his class late past when some assignments were already due and was only given half credit for them. 40% discussion posts
Easy A class. Everything is online. He is not organized and play psychology game with the students . The class have too much work, but easy work. Make sure there is no plagiarism cause he will give you negative gardes 3 times the original grade of the discussion, He love to give negative grades so be carful other then that you should get A.
Best teacher I've ever had while being in the grad program! His instructions are very clear and he is great when you want clarification on assignments/discussion posts. There's a lot of discussion posts in this class, about 3 per week along with 1 or 2 assignments. He's reasonable when it comes to his assignments and very lenient with grading.
Everyone is scared away by the discussion posts but the number due a week decreases after like the first 3 weeks. The project was easy and he lets you RESUBMIT parts for a few days after for a better grade. He exempts people from final but the criteria changes so make sure all grade categories are high because people had 100+ in class & took final.
Dr. Biehl has been one of my favorite professors. Even though we were already online during COVID-19, he did his best to accommodate everyone's needs. Can be lots of work, but as long as you complete everything, this class is an easy A. He is a very fair test grader and gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Excellent teacher!!
This online class is an easy A. It's a lot of work (3-5 discussions every week, plus an assignment on webcourses), but if you do all the work, you get an A in the class. There's only one test, and you can reference your homework, and if you do really well in the class, he exempts you from taking the final.
If you are independent learner, you will really do well in this class. The weekly discussions posts are really important if you want the grade; but, to learn the concepts, you really have to put in the efforts. He provide good resources for self learning. The pace is okay and the grading criteria is clear. Balance grading. Odd due dates tho.
Professor claims to love statistics but does very little to teach them at all. Lots of reading, all actual learning is self-directed, hilariously massive amount of banal discussion posts required. Moreover, professor requires a video project presentation. If i wanted to edit footage no one was ever gonna watch I would've signed up for film not EET.
There's so many unnecessary discussions with people just saying the same thing over and over. Then, he expects you to come up with a "thoughtful" response for multiple people in each discussion. There's also a video project that is just... SO unnecessary That's it. "Unnecessary" is the perfect word to describe the amount of work he gives.
If you love writing essays every week and replying to human Chegg bots all-day, then please take this class! It's ridiculously easy but a pain. You learn absolutely nothing, the class structure is horrendous, and this guy should quit his job and start a book club instead, since he loves reading the same Chegg regurgitated garbage 400x a week.
This guy thinks this class is Gordon Rule. I probably wrote more bs here than I ever though I would. His "lectures" are horrible and the work is absolutely useless and will add nothing to your life. An easy A if you know how to bs essays professionally. It is kinda sad since I really enjoy the topic and this guy managed to ruin it...
This class requires a ridiculous amount of work. You'll write more in this class more than in any other classes you've taken. 4 discussions every week plus 2 responses each due at 9 PM, so 1200 words each week. Also, I learned nothing in statistics but writing. A final project includes creating a video and a flyer for it without any guidance.
This class is easy to get an A in or fail. There are a TON of discussion posts and assignments that are doable if you manage to stay on top of things. If you do the work you should be fine. But as others have said, it feels more like a writing class than statistics. You learn how to use excel.
The course consisted heavily of discussion posts, ranging from 2 - 4 a week alongside an online homework assignment every week. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities, all written paper-based. The class is straight forward from the beginning, if you do all the work and extra credit and do fairly well on the midterm and final exam, you will pass
This class will take up all of your time. It can start off very rough. but once you get accustom to it, it is manageable. As the semester goes on, the grading criteria lessens and things basically become a participation grade. This is a technical writing class. If you remember quantity over quality (ironic) you'll do well.
Lots of homework. Value quantity over quality.
The grading and explanation of submitted assignments are subjective. The professor expects the class to be as versed as he is overall without much consideration of the time it takes to complete the assigned reading and many assignments. You can have an A and still fail the class by doing poorly on one assignment alone. Study groups are much needed.
He has no lectures and the class is heavily dependent on the book. A lot of required discussion posts every week. He also doesn't make any announcements and instead makes updates in a discussion post that is rarely seen.
YOU MUST AVOID THIS GUY. He is literally condescending. He has taught nothing just upload some unhelpful clips. Tons of reading and homework every week, and tremendous semester report which is ridiculous. I almost wrote 90 pages for this homework. He does not like question, he is always combative when it comes to a question from a student.
Professor Biehl is knowledgeable on the subjects he teaches but is terrible professor. You will do more work for one of his courses then you would for 3 others put together. The cherry on top is after all of that hard work he will still give you a terrible grade. He gives hardly any instructions and then makes you feel dumb for asking questions.
Biehl is an intense professor - this class will take up the majority of your time to beware when planning. You will learn a lot but only if you put in the work. Many discussion posts, big papers, textbook readings, etc., but his lectures are very intriguing. Keep up on the work and try hard and you will likely be rewarded by Biehl.
He did not adopt equality environment in the class nor clear view about class content. His comments always changed about same work. If you good in writing and talking , you better take him. This professor is not for engineering major. He should teach philosophy or something like that. He gives more useless discussion . He should retire.
No rubrics or helpful grading criteria. He expects you to read his mind in order to succeed in the class. (Spoiler alert: nobody can read his mind)
Has confidence in the experience he has earned and delivers his skills into his lectures. He reads a lot and expects the same for his students which is something I personally respect. There are peers who would think of his teaching style as “vague” but if you ask him directly about your questions he will make sure to answer them as needed.
Get ready to suffer the whole semester. Extremely long papers and ZERO explanation of what he wants. Extremely tough grader and no extra credit. Make sure you attend to class, surprise quizzes and in class assigments. Not willing to help students if doubts and mostly group projects.
He’s a hard professor because of the amount of work that is expected. However he will make sure you learn the subject. I’ve taken him for 3 classes and he each time I’ve learned the class like no other class.
Worst professor you can ever take such a wast of time
Worst professor u can take
His narcissism knows no bounds. Had 3 discussions and a project to work on every week except one or two in between. Multiple surprise quizzes with the most unbalanced grading. Thinks his class is the only one we take. Doesn't have clear speech and instructions, outright awful but unfortunately higher in the cecs pecking order.
Awful professor, I got a B but I was at a 94 just 2 weeks ago. In the span of 2 weeks multiple surprise quizzes and bad grading brought me down a letter, I won't be surprised if there's people who got C right now had a low A before as well. Spoilers: He wants you to know everything a professional knows, wacky expectations. Avoid if you can.
Gives useless feedback doesn't have a grading criteria and expects students to do well
AVOID HIM IF YOU CAN I believe that the professor has no idea what he's doing honestly, kept giving us a one hour quiz for a month I believe cause he had nothing to teach also the average of quizzes was about 30%!!
For most work in this class, you will receive a set of instructions, even if you follow these instructions exactly it will not guarantee you a good or even decent grade because there were actually hidden instructions locked away in a secret compartment that is located inside Professor Biehl's brain. The only way to unlock this is by being Biehl.
In other classes he taught-if you did the work you pretty much got an A. This class is different. His expectations are unclear and I spent the whole semester guessing. Our class resulted in a lot of failed quizzes and even a failing avg final grade. Good luck-try to build up your grade to prepare for the end (hopefully get exempt from the final).
Difficult to understand. Doesn't put in effort to ensure student understand what is needed to be done, In his quizzes and tests all averages are horribly below passing grade and he still blames the students.
All the students rating professor Biehl negatively in the past three days are mad about their final exam scores. He is very passionate about what he does and you will actually learn. Do what you need to do and you will get a good grade. If you don't do the work, you will not. This class is not difficult compared to other courses.
Professor Biehl is definitely not passionate about what he does and the last rating was definitely wrote by professor Biehl him self lol
Yoo the average of the final exam was 35% and this guy still says Iam passionate of what I do.
Want to stress your self for 4 months and still get a C and maybe fail, your welcome to take this professor.
I worked on this class more than I did for my other 4 classes and still got a C only because I did bad on 1 exam
This guy will take all ur time unbelievably how much work he gives.
Horrible professor and I hope he reads this. Not sure what happened to him but recently he went from being a good professor to absolutely awful. The problem this professor has is that he lacks introspection and empathy towards engineering students. *ran out of words so continue in next post*
I really think a big part of this is that he lacks an ENGINEERING DEGREE, so he could not understand the difficulty engineering students are put through with all their classes and internships. Its not the 1980s so learn to adapt/change and lose the flip phone.
Dismissive. Abstract. Unclear. Condesending. Arrogant. Non-compassionate. Bought PHD from online college! Biehl is a terrible professor and doesnt care about your performance, he is always right! He doesnt read through entire submissions when grading, doesnt provide substantive feedback, doesnt acknowledge or act upon any concerns from his students
2 weeks into the semester and there are 2 reports based on critical thinking, 4 discussions based on reading, 2 assignment redo's, and a quiz due all in the span of 3 days. The redo's are assignments where he said we did enough and then gave everyone except for 2-3 students 0. Also argues and passes demeaning remarks to students.
Do not take him, his grading is the worst. We were a week in an everyone already had a n F or -F. If he doesnt like your homework or projects, which he never likes, he will give you a 0 or the minimum even if you turn in a very well-made paper. It is mostly writing than actual facility learning. Just avoid him if you can.
If God told me in order for me to enter heaven, professor biehl would be my cross, I would have just started walking to hell. Good luck future students
I wouldn't be surprised if he actually used a random number generator to choose your grade. Basically all assignments got below a 50% average, and that's being generous. Never gave actual feedback just very vague lessons which were given after assignments were due lol. As soon as you think you understand something he'll just change his expectations
Condescending and clueless. Needs to take his own class first before teaching us.
Knows his craft, but inefficient at teaching. You will drown in discussions and other redundant assignments together with the insane amount of readings assigned per week plus his 3-hour lectures. Students would learn more if he didn't try to firehose them and instead presented the material concisely with less of the useless death by assignments.
rated this class hillarious because I had the whole systems engineering department at work laughing at the material I learnt from this class
He gives out a lot of work. It wouldn't be an issue if there were clear criteria on what he wanted, but there isn't. He doesn't really teach past the first week. He brainstorms in front of you mostly which isn't really conductive to learning in my opinion. Most people won't fail, however.
I wish he had talked more about stocks and flows
He has a bachelor's in Philosophy so expect exactly that a, philosophy class: insane amount of reading, insane amount of writing. Definitely odd for an ENGINEERING class.
Horrible Professor
what is joe biden going to do about the biehl monopoly on the UCF IE department?
This is one of the worse professors I have ever had in my whole academic career. This class has me doing several page projects and had them due within 2 weeks of each other. Got grades ranging from 10-50% and once asked about my grade. No feedback was given. I would rather shoot my balls off than take this class again.
This is the worst class I have ever experienced. He requires weekly readings from three different textbooks, 3.5 hr weekly lectures, 2 - 30min weekly supplemental videos, 4-6 weekly discussion posts with 2 reply's per post, 2-3 assignments with 2 reply's per week, and a semester long project in which the average grade is a 30%.... Don't take Biehl
There are a lot of discussions due per week on Wednesday by 9 PM which is just not realistic for full time working students. The project which is worth majority of your grade is so harshly graded that before we talked to the department head, majority of the class was not going to pass. He gives little to no explanation for his grading.
Stock and Flow, diagram-driven class. Focus on that cause nothing else matters
Biehl is the worst professors I have taken at UCF. He has one paper that you have to write over the course of the semester and does not provide clear expectations. When each iteration of the paper is graded, he will give you a bad grade without any feedback on how to fix it. It became a paper in which he cared more about quantity than quality.
Avoid at all costs. This professor does not want their students to learn the material. There is so much work that you will never get an opportunity to actually interact with it. This class is the embodiment of barely treading the water before you drown.
No clear grading criteria. Absolutely the hardest professor. Will also take the chance to demean you if you give it to him.
The class is conceptual in nature and he looks for specific words or interactions within systems. He presents basic systems such as a local library, but then expects a group project on a complex system such as city waste mgmt. His rules and work expectations are not always clear. His grading is all over the place. Would not recommend Biehl
