if you couldn't understand Bowen then you shouldn't be in a university - he was the best lecturer i had at Loyola. humour is a bit quirky, but he was the most helpful member of the psychology department by far and his research methods course exam was pie.

He is very interesting, and his lectures are fun and enjoyable, but he is serious about learning and his tests reflect that

Obviously classes are going to be hard. Loyola is ranked in the top National Doctoral Universities. Bowen offers extra credit, flexible office hours and is down to earth in person. He is EXTREMELY qualified, check out his vitae online!

Dr. Bowen is a great professor. You can ask him everything at any moment and he will know the answer right away. His lectures are very interestig. Those who think he is boring simply didn't get to college level yet and should go back to high school.

Great teacher. His interractive class style really aides in understanding conceptual ideas. I was much better prepared for higher level psych classes because of his class. Easy A-B if you attend.

You can tell he cares a lot about teaching because he is always prepared for class with his slides and other random material. He seems to have a great sense of humor and is always available. Unlike high school, you have to study to get an A.

Very interesting class. comes prepared with slides, powerpoints, and movies. test are some what difficult. Be sure to read the text. he lets you view your test results afterwards so u can find out where you went wrong. highly recommended. great teacher

Dr. Bowen is very cool and funny. Class can be boring, largely due to content that he has to cover. Study. He gives out 5% xtra credit if you sign up for only 4 psyc experiments, and regularly gives out points to add to test scores

Great teacher. Everyone that thinks badly of him is confusing the quality of the teacher with the way the class is structured. Of course the class tends to be a little monotonous, it's a lecture class in a big lecture hall.

I was scared to take him, cuz i read the comments here,but I ended up liking the class! Dr. Bowan is nice, and fairly clear. He's easy to talk to, tests are alright if you study..he gives you a study sheet w/ everything you need.

For pysch majors, this is the prof to take, hes extremely knowledgable, and a good teacher. The class isnt hard, you just have to be willing to put in the work.

It is all from class. You dont even need the book if you show up to class and take notes. He is helpful outside of class as well.

While many complain about this teacher, I have found nothing wrong with him. If you show up to class and actually pay attention, there is no reason you should not get a good grade. I would definitely recommend him.

Bowen is a professor with a bad rep. If you are a psych major, you should teach him, you do learn alot and he really wants you to do well. he's kind of odd at times but he's really intelligent. And he wrote a book on hot dogs.

students give mini-lectures to teach the course to class but this really helps. He also gives out a sheet with all possible questions on essay exam (u can get him to take off ones that don't make sense) easy writing intensive credit and an A is easy too

Had him freshman year for psych 101 and when i read these comments i freaked out but instead he was such an awesome teacher. You dont need to go to class cuz he gives an outline of each test- lectures are boring... but tests are so ridiculously easy!!!!!

I got a b in this class without really trying, really enjoyed the class and the professor. It's hard for most people, but he is really interesting, uses a lot of real world examples and stories.

Dr. Bowen has somewhat boring lectures and one of those soothing voices, but his class really is easy. I put in minimal effort and ended up with a pretty decent grade. He outlines every test and has no homework. You don't even have to go to class! Just get the study guide.

He is a very nice person. ALways has his door open to students. Granted his tests are hard beacsue they involve application, not just memorization, of the material, but he gives study guides. Study and you will do fine. Also a very funny and smart man.

I didn't go to more than half the lectures, and I'm pulling an A. The class is boring, but he's a nice guy, and you can tell he's really into the subject of psychology. Fill out the outlines before every test, study from there, you'll be fine. He gives insane amounts of extra credit. No homework. :)

He's a nice person, and he knows the subject, but class is really a drag sometimes. Just make sure to keep up with the pink sheets and do the online tutorial quizzes and you'll probably get an A, better than I can say only, out of no fault but my own.

He's a really great guy....he makes me laugh non stop. Basically the students teach the class (each one has to give one mini-lecture for the semester). Test questions are given ahead of time to study. You will learn a lot. He's great.

If you had him for 101 you got the wrong impression! Bowen is only a hard tester because you are part of a research experiment. He is actually a GREAT professor, hes a nice guy, an easy grader, and his RM tests are easy cause you get the questions in advance. Definatly take this class! You need it!

Dr. Bowen was a GREAT teacher. He is soooo different in Res Methods than in Psych 101. He explains everything until you understand it. Tests consist of questions that you already have in advance. SOO understanding. Just an all around nice guy.

Most likely one of the BEST professors I've ever had @ loyola, which is GREAT because I didn't have many. Take him if you want an A. He is funny, helpful, and the class is SOO easy to sit through. He gets the class to interact so much and by the end of the semester everyone seems to be best of friends!

He is very entertaining! 4 exams all of which you are given exam questions ahead of time, 1 presentation where you teach the class a section of the book (yuck!), and several design critiques, and a research paper (all you have to do is present data in essay form!) make up the class

Happy 100th rating Dr. Bowen!!! He's a great teacher. Even though you do have to study alot and the first exam is hard, but he gives you the exam questions in advance. He's also very helpful in office hours, and accessible by email. Tells interesting stories, and is rather amusing. The class is too big but that's not his fault. Great teacher!!!!

Most students think he is very hard. But he is really systematic. Read, make note card, and do the extra credit and you should get an A. You put in the time and you will get an A. Alot of his questions are from the online quizes from the text book

Really great teacher, he usually doesn't go over everything in the book, but that's what the textbook is for. Four exams, the last exam being the final. Thus there is no overall final, and that's good. I give him an A+ I really liked his impersonation of the adult kicking the bozo doll. That was cool. He should do more acting in class.

Great and hilarious professor. I would recommend him. Tests are a bit hard and specific, 4 x 75 multiple choice exams, but he hands out a study guide for each. To bump up grade you can do extra credit experiments worth approx. 15 points. Very knowledgeable, makes lectures interesting and gives good real life examples for easier understanding

U can get 18 extra cresit points doin easy experiments, which is huge. he gives u review sheets so there isnt really a point in goin to class, but id recommend goin ne way, its interesting. He's funny and smart, but stuck on himself. I think he might have anger issues because I've seen him blow up at people... Or show unnecessary frustration. You'll talk to him in class and he won't recognize you later that day. Very cold outside of class, but a good lecturer.

Great professor, lively in lectures. Will answer any questions you have. laid back. be careful though, you only have four tests so each is 25% of your grade. he tells you exactly what is on it though. it really helps to attend lectures even though they are not mandatory.

Even though the information isn't really very interesting, he tries to make the lectures bearable with things like video clips. The quizzes are hard but studying the book really helps. He's also pretty understanding if you go talk to him, but he probably won't remember you later and isn't always reliable.

He's pretty cool. The quizzes aren't too hard, but it seems like he wastes a lot of time in class. But, you can tell that he really wants us to understand the material. He plays music WAY TOO LOUD before class...and it started off cool with Panic at the Disco, but as the semester went on it turned into obnoxious choppy piano stuff...yuck.

I really liked professor bowen-he was funny and plays music before class and is willing to help if you ask him questions. I had taken AP psych in high school and this class is a breeze. He gives you pink sheets which tell you what to study for the exams, and if you take the online quizzes, he takes questions straight from there.

Dear dudes and dudettes: To get an A: fill out the pink sheet just flipping through the book (usualy took me about an hour or 2 and 4-8 pages, dependingon the test)-read the assigned pages, then use your study guide you just made, and your so golden its not even funny. I officialy just pulled off a 102% and i havent gone to class in months

Great class! For a freshman, an easy A to start your transcript with. Gives up to 10% extra credit and a solid A starts at 90%. Do the math, get a B- 80% or better on the tests and do the extra credit, you leave with a 4.0... Pretty decent lecture, likes young students. None cumulative final. Great class!

For a lecture class, he made it pretty interesting. Attendence isn't required, but it's definitely helpful on the tests because he explains things very well. You should read the book as well though. He makes class interesting, and it's rarely boring. I'd suggest him... from what I hear he was alot easier than other psychology profs.

He's a cool guy and knows his stuff but goes onto so many tangents it makes lectures drag on. I stopped going to class halfway through the semester and actually did better on the exams after. Exams aren't too hard if you read and utilize the notes which he posts on blackboard. Can also earn up to a half letter grade of extra credit.

Prof. gives good lectures but tests are very hard. A lot of experiments on the exams so study those especially. Helpful if needed. Does not like tons of dumb questions.

I really liked this teacher! I'm surprised that so many people hated him. His class was the only one I enjoyed this semester. I had never taken a psychology class before and he made me really interested in the subject. He's very energetic and passionate about psychology.

Professor Bowen is a really nice guy. He can be a little "schizophrenic" in his teaching style, but he is very interesting to listen to. This year attendance was mandatory but it's worth it. He also gave pop quizzes but they were pretty easy if you pay attention and read the book. Reading is a must in this class! But it helps. Take him if you can!

Easiest class I've taken. All quizzes and tests were straight out of the reading, although you do need to pay attention to some details. Dr. Bowen is a bit eccentric, but excited about the subject.

Doc loves his students. I was lucky to be in a small class and it was great. I enjoyed his quirky way of teaching and his uses of YouTube and movies to keep the material relevant and entertaining. I would recommend Doc with a grain of salt. He has an interesting teaching stile that not all students may be compatible with, but overall, he is great.

I thought we was okay but if you can take someone else! He gives pop-quizes and that was my only motivation to go to class on most days. You need to do the reading to do will in the class because most of his lectures are irrelevant. He cares about his students but it extremely full of himself.

For research methods Dr. B is a great professor to take. There are student presentations everyday, but they are easy to prepare and it would be such a dry subject for him to lecture. He gives the possible test questions in advance so we know what to study. Extra credit for attendance plus little assignments to help your grade. Get out early a lot.

Not an easy core class. Takes a lot of effort to pull off a B. He's a nice guy who makes good use of technology. Posts power-points. Takes a lot of work, if you aren't super interested in psychology I wouldn't recommend taking this class.

Awesome Teacher! Don't listen to any negative comments about him because he truly is a great educator and is fair with tests and quizzes as well as with giving extra credit- he gives up to a 5% increase in your grade with extra credit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this class.

Bowen is awesome. Though he plays his music obscenely loud before class, he's a good-natured, highly-intelligent, devoted professor. None of the material is extremely difficult - just be proactive about studying. As long as you're not overly lazy with staying up to speed on the content, there shouldn't be a worry.

Dr. Bowen isn't a bad professor at all, but he does occasionally dwell on his personal stories and presents pictures for quite a long time during class. The class definitely requires reading the textbook actively, as well as attendance - otherwise you risk missing his pop quizzes.

Great Class. Consists of 4 exams [final is the fourth exam] , 6 [out of 7] 'pop'quizzes.. but he always tells you when they're coming. and extra credit earns you 5% in the class! As long as you read the textbook, you're set. Really enjoyed the class! :)

A wonderful teacher in my opinion. His class consists of very loud music before class, a few friendly and funny words before starting the lecture, a funny video mid-lecture, and then ending with more hilariousness and some friendly departing words. Exams are detailed and hard but just read the book.

Bowen is the man. Seriously, he's been EVERYWHERE. He is a good teacher and really knows his stuff. Has office hours if you ever need help outside of class. Gives plenty of extra points which is nice. Has a crazy laugh, but makes class entertaining. Shows a lot of cool videos. Don't slack off, read the book, and do work, and you will do great.

Dr. Bowen is a great teacher. There are 7 quizzes throughout the semester that he warns you about. For the 4 exams, read the book closely! Outline them and make flashcards. If you don't go to class, try to study from the slides, and don't read the book you will probably fail the test. He asks very specific questions, but everything is in the book.

Dr. Bowen is awesome. His class is a lot of fun. The syllabus seems very intimidating, but it's not bad at all! No quizzes, tests are take home, and homework is minimal. If you're looking for a goofy, great professor to make research methods interesting, he's your guy! :)

Bowen is to this day one of my favorite professors I've ever had, I was literally excited to go to his class. He does his best to keep the class interesting. Psych experiments are EXTRA CREDIT where in most other classes they're mandatory. He has a sense of humor and is a little quirky, overall awesome man.

He's a cute old man. He has some swag. Although some of his video treats are obnoxious and cross the line. I was uncomfortable for one of them. However, just read the book and look at the powerpoints. You'll be solid.

Professor Bowen is one of the most interesting professor you'll ever have. He would most of the time change what's on the syllabus based on the class performance and mood. Lots of papers were required but that's given cause it's a writing intensive class. He's funny, chill, random and gives you video treats everyday.

Bowen is an awesome guy! He's so hip and really invested in psychology. A lot of people struggle with him, but the key to an A is reading the text book. I loved having Dr. B as a teacher, he is very clear as to what he expects from the class, he is very straight forward with his quizzes and tests. Always make sure to read the textbook because if you don't it is 100% guaranteed that you will never get an A in the class if you don't. Love this class. The only reason it is hard to pay attention is because it is such a large lecture that there isn't really much class participation and also the auditorium that it is in kinda just sucks the life out of you. However, I do think Bowen is a good professor when it comes to going over the PowerPoints, He is really engaging and funny.

Dr. Bowen is awesome. He's so funny and tries to make boring topics interesting. Starts off each class by blasting his maraca music or playing a funny video. This class is NOT hard if you attend lectures, take the notes, and use the resources he gives you such as the power points and learning objective he posts on Sakai. I would recommend him!!

I enjoyed Dr. Bowen as a person and liked his class but if you don't read the book, you won't pass the class. His lectures are simply to elaborate more on the book, and his tests are questions directly from the book. He has a lot of office hours and loves to talk so go in and talk to him! I thought he was great. He taught conversation-style. Makes you do "lightning rounds" every few weeks where you stand up and teach the class about a term on the test. THAT alone will make you study. If you take him for PSY101, it'll be worse on you. He just prefers working with older students who already have a psych background.

I loved professor Bowen! He goes of on tangents all the time, but they are usually funny and he somehow connects them to what you're talking about in class. All his tests are based on the book. Chapters are 10-15 pages long so not bad and book can be found online so dont bother buying it. Versions of the book dont matter either. Grades include design critiques every unit that are read in front of the class. Super easy writing intensive class. Don't learn anything in class but an easy class.

Lectures tend to get off topic but are entertaining. Gives an optional 20 points of extra credit, given that you attend the classes he checks and you do outside work. The extra credit saved my grade due to the difficult exams. You'll be good if you're able to retain the textbook information well and apply it.

He can be a bit boring at times, but it is an easy class. I would recommend taking him because he also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.

He really emphasizes reading the textbook because he doesn't cover everything during lecture. He sometimes goes off on a tangent during lecture killing lecture time but he does try to catch up later on. He is really lecture heavy, the entire time is dedicated to lecture which can be daunting.

I do not understand how anyone could complain about Dr. Bowen. To get an A in this class all you have to do is read the book. He is VERY helpful, he emails us specific topics and even the specific book page numbers that will be on the exam. Besides that he offers a lot of extra credit. I definitely recommend!!!

For a writing intensive class, this class was a breeze. 3 short 1-paged papers and your final paper is a 2.5 paper about an experiment you made up. For a class in general, the class is rather boring because he does just ramble on, but he's a sweet man! He really does have a passion for psychology, you just have to pretend to have that same passion.

TAKE HIS CLASS! Dr Bowen is an intelligent and great professor. Very easy and interesting class. offers plenty of extra credit, for attendance too. tests and quizzes are very straight forward as long as you read the book, he emails out exact page numbers to read for each test or quiz. I highly recommend!

Dr B is an extremely intelligent man; he knows a lot in his field. His class can be a bit boring at times bc he only lectures (he does do 3 min meditations every class which is cool). He gives 5pt EC if you go to all classes, 15pt EC for participating in studies. Quizzes and 4 exams (including noncumulative final). I would take him again though!!

Dr B is a great and funny guy, but the materials he teaches are hard to grasp. Tests and quizzes are difficult but he gives loads of extra credit. Easily accessible through email. He's like a sweet old man who knows what he is talking about, but can sometimes ramble and you can get distracted

Dr. B is a great professor. His lectures can be heavy at times and he can ramble off, but if you read the chapters before the exams you'll be fine. His tests are doable if you know the terms. Gives chance for extra credit that can really boost your grade. Solid choice and kind person!

His class is not overwhelmingly hard, there is no homework only 6 quizzes and 4 tests. You do have to study for them in order to do well but they are fairly straightforward. He offers extra credit if you attend all the lectures and if you complete 10 points worth of psyc studies, I highly recommend them they brought me from an 81% to an 89%.

3 essays, 5 multiple choice and 6 essay quizzes, participation, final, and final paper. It wasn't a lot of work but the multiple choice were always tricky. if you went every class you got full participation. there was a lot of presenting and being called on to answer questions but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, overall good guy, cares

Dr. B was one of the first professors I interacted with at Loyola and he really made an excellent impression on me. Hes full of energy and is very clear in his lectures on what he wants you to know. Not going to class though will hurt you significantly however. However just going to class will already guarentee you at least a B.

PSYCH 101 is all lecture. All of the slides are posted on Sakai, which is convenient. As long as you read and study the pages given, you will do well. There are quite a bit of quizzes, but they are only 10 multiple choice questions and pretty straightforward. Also, prepare to listen to music and to meditate in class.

bowen is such a gem! You can tell that he really cares about the topic and his students. The class was in a lecture hall- attendance does not matter except for quiz and test days. No need to go to class, he emails you the book pages that will be on the exams. Read the book and you will be fine. Take advantage of his extra credit!!

Dr. Bowen is a very intelligent man but his class can be a little dry at times. Since it is in a big lecture hall, you don't have to come to class and if you do you don't have to pay attention. You can do very well just by reading the text book since he emails you what pages to read. He does say some things in class that can help. Super nice guy

He is honestly one of the best psych 101 teachers here. Sure his lectures are kinda boring but the material you have to learn isn't hard. His tests for based solely on his lectures. He makes sure everything goes hand in hand with the book so if you to read you can. He also give you the chance to earn 5% extra credit. TAKE HIM! It's an easy A.

Here is a super funny and smart teacher. For psych 101 he definitely made me like the class way more than I thought I would. Very test heavy so make sure you read. He is very fair so if you read you will do well on the quizzes and tests in his class. Take him you wont regret it
