Fun teacher, really nice, gives extra credit for nothing, like when he's late to class you get points, and he is easy to learn from.
Teaches great, reviews everything. When you dont understand something he helps you learn it quickly thru simple explaination.
This class is easy but he never helps you if you have a question and his test are kind of hard. You pretty much do everything on your own but he's super nice.
Tests are easy if you study the section reviews. Not a responsible teacher. Comes to class EVERYDAY late. Cancels and doesn't tell anyone. Came to class a few times smelling like alcohol.
Okay, Its not a hard class, but expect what you need to learn to teach it yourself. He is EXTREMELY NICE. For Tests--Study the Review Checks in every section. Word for Word on Tests. He rarely gets to class on time, but gives you xtra credit when he late
You teach yourself but the class is that easy! He help when you need it, Ch. review is really helpful. Class was always let out early!
An easy 'A'. But Burton is extremely condescending. Maybe it's because I'm a mature adult that I do not like being treated like a 12 year-old, I don't know. And to Burton: FYI--Microsoft did not invent the GUI.
very easy class. you teach yourself- but the book goes step by step to tell you how to do it- he just teaches along w/ book. is late to class everyday- but nice guy. easy tests- not very many. i recommend his class.
Mr. Burton is a great teaacher. He seems a bit strict sometimes, but he is very nice! He cares a lot about his students and is willing to help you out. We had 3 tests all yr. that most got A's or B's on. Does come to class late sometimes, but you always get out early. I would recommend him!
Expect to teach yourself. We also had problems with him showing up late or not at all. Also, he only returns or puts up on blackboard like 5 things. I appealed my grade and it was hard since there were no grades, and also, he never responded to my emails - i had to go through the dept head
Don't bother getting to class early becasue he is usually late. just come to class for the lab day because they are just participation. tests are harded than you would think. he doesn't hardly ever use e-mail, even to cancel class, so if you have to get a hold on him, talk to him in class
Easy A.... tests aren't too bad... he tends to run late a lot but when he doesn't, class usually gets out a little bit early.
Mr. Burton is always late to class cause he has to smoke. He never checks his emails, so don't even bother. His class is pretty easy but he's not a very good teacher.
NEVER on time!!! Very unorganized... skips class alot too.
Very easy going teacher. Just show up and do the work, EASY A. If you have any question, ask him, and he will make you easily understand it. I get the impression he is a very fun guy outside of work.
i love him! but he is very late to class and disorganized. easy A!
Okay...if you skip this mans class he writes you and email saying "Daddy aint happy" a little creepy...but he is over all a good teacher. you can get to know him better if you smoke with him before class startes too.
Class was not made difficult. He worked with me turning in late assignments and Friday was always a 20 point mandatory lab day. If you keep up with the weekly tutorial and show up for tests you will get an A or at least o B+. No friday= you fail
Late a bit, but tries to let out early when he can. Was very accommodating when I had to miss a test and make it up. Seems like really cool guy and was very nice to me. Tests are easy if you can be bothered to study vocab.
He's an oddball, that Mr. Burton. However, the class was relatively easy, and the tests were a cinch. I'd say you should take from him if you can.
As long as you turn in the assignments, go to class, and take tests, i can guarantee you will do well in this class. What suprised me is that, he does not give feedback for the tests and assignments. But overall easy A if you take him.
Richard is nice guy who cares about what you learn and apply. I did bad on my first test i am not gonna lie it was hard test but he works with you to help bring grade up. He is great teacher who is smart and cares about his class. He is never been late to class this smester. I would recommend taking him. If you do please dont miss any class he will
Why there is a bad rating for Burton is beyond me. If you go to class and do the easy assignments you will get an A. He cares very little about points, which means test scores really dont matter. You shouldnt enroll for you next semester if you dont get at least a B in his class
he's always late to class and no help what so ever if you ask for it and don't worry about doing the homework he assigns cause you'll do it the next class period. Boring and not real sure of himself.
This class will take some effort. He knows what he is talking about, but has no way of telling you. And his tests are completely from left field. Okay teacher overall.
What a god awful teacher. You have to teach yourself everything. I would not take him.
What a horrible teacher, if that's what you want to call him. He's completely unwillin to help and enforces a 3 day attendance policy, yet missed more than 3 days and was late multiple times. I would HIGHLY recomend takin someone else at any cost!
The class is easy, but as far as teaching, not so good. You have to teach yourself at times. He goes through stuff fast. Doesn't let you out early. But you should get a high B or better.
Very easy class but it does stink that you have to go to class everyday because of the attendance policy, and class is so boring he just goes over power points most of the time, but the grading is great you get lots of homework points that help out alot.
He is not a good teacher. Good luck getting a hold of him outside the classroom. Wont respond to emails. Avoid him if possible!
Worst online teacher ever. Don't take him. He doesn't even respond to emails or even voicemails. And he isn't in his office during office hours. I got a B with it online because he wasn't helpful at all.
Worst ever. Attendance policy is ridiculous. There is no teaching and he is a complete ass. He comes across as condecending and pretentious. I would avoid him at all cost. He's totally unprofessional and ineffective. By far one of the worst academic encounters I have ever had in college.
there is no reason for this guy to be there. I can read manufacturer powerpoints myself. Total **** of a teacher, if you call him that. I hope no one dies in your family b/c it will be unexcused. absense policy is B.S. 3 misses and he drops grades. only way he gets ppl in class. AVOID HIM!!!!
His class is easy. His teaching skills are poor. He shows up late and lets you out late. He believes he is in control and so your opinion about his tendencies doesn't matter but i wonder what his superiors would think if they knew more about his class experience.
Very very easy! Take this class, easy A. He goes over powerpoints each class. Do the online quizes and know vocab words. That is basically his test. Also look at the books side little notes in the chapters he gets some test questions from that. He is nice but u can't miss mre then 5 days. Still easy class!!!
Gotta love Burton. Some days he looks like he slept in his office, but a pretty nice guy who will help you out if you ask him. Class was pretty easy material and the practice material does a great job to prepare you for tests. Laugh at his jokes, say hi to him everyday, don't miss class, and buy him a beer if you see him downtown, you'll do fine
Mr Burton was a very nice guy, he was just very unprofessional. He'd always keep us waiting outside the locked classroom till, and sometimes after, the class was supposed to start. Also, he always dressed and looked like he just woke up after a night of partying at a night club. Oh, and don't miss 5 days of class, you'll fail the course.
Most boring drone ever! Shows up late to class. Makes everyone stand outside. Definitely looks like he just woke up no matter what time it is! Teaches like everyone is at a 2nd grade level. Easy A if you can stand him!
I would probably almost recommend you to take another teacher. He is as helpful as can be and he is a nice guy. He makes class pretty easy. However, he seems... a little absent-minded. He arrives just before class starts (like 5 minutes before) each day. He also seems a little demeaning to some students. He admits he has almost no teacher education
He will not help you if you ask question. I think he does not like questions. I wish I picked another instructor.
He wasn't very clear at the beginning of the semester over the differences between SAM 1 and Excel 1, causing me to miss an assignment I thought I had turned in. Tests have trick questions that seem like they're there not to test your knowledge, but to literally trick you into missing them. The final is over material that was BRIEFLY covered.
Although some individuals view him negatively, Professor Burton is just different. He plays outside of the lines a little bit with his demeanor, but it is refreshing. He is very thorough and very knowledgeable in the material that he covers. The key to success in his class is to pay close attention in lectures and never hesitate to ask questions.
I would never take him again. Does not respond to emails, and never makes anything clear. I missed two assignments because I was super sick and at the beginning of the year he was fine with late work, even stated that. Now refuses to let me turn work in. But picks his favorites that are usually guys and would do anything to help them. NEVER AGAIN
Save yourself from headache, take another CIS professor
Class is not that bad. Show up do your work and you will be golden.
Burton's a nice guy and he cares about his students and class, but almost too much for a gen ed. He's strict on late work, although he did have extra credit available. He notices and takes attendance. Sometimes it's hard to meet him during office hours as he can be late/isn't there, but overall he wants to help you if you're putting in the work.
One of the worst professor I have ever had so far. Never will reply to a email, but loves to spam them himself. Never tests on what he teaches. And is terrible at explaining the homework assignments be prepared to self teach in 200 I would see if there is any other teaching CIS 200 or CIS 201 because you would not want him teaching you anything
Burton is one interesting dude to say the least. One day he came in with sunglasses with a black eye and said he "fell eating his Jimmie Johns". That aside showing up everyday and doing the assignments will get you an A. Talk to him at the end if you're on the border and he'll most likely help you out.
Had a mid A on the last day of class, he gave us a 10 question quiz worth 95 points. This dropped my grade to all the way to a B. 10 questions worth 95 points? Makes no sense. Also, the quiz was over questions that were not even relevant to the class. Not fair.
Burton has been one of my favorite instructors at MSU. I took his CIS 200 and 201 classes and enjoyed them. He really just wants to see his students work hard and learn. 1. Do the weekly assignments. 2. Study for the quizzes, midterm and final. 3. Show up to class and participate. 4. Treat the class like it's a business meeting.
He is very strict. No cell phone use. He was very rude. Easy class, but it requires group projects and a group presentation in final (which isn't difficult and you get to work on it in class), but not favorable. Easy course material. Had an issue with making up an assignment for an excused absence- wasn't willing to work with me.
You do one large group project and everything else is two tests and excel practice. He is kind of confusing sometimes and moves fast. He tends to have assignments during class periods so I wouldn't miss the lab days. But lecture days aren't important. You just have to be on top of things and if you're not then its hard.
I liked having Burton as my prof for CIS200! He treated the class professionally, the whole semester is dedicated to working on a group project and excel assignments. The group project presentation is your final but it's not very hard. He takes a while to put in grades but you should get 100% on assignments as long as you turn them in on time.
DO NOT TAKE-never available outside of class. I scheduled a meeting and he didn't bother to show. Very rude every time I spoke to him, and when I witnessed him speaking to others. Lots of homework that he doesn't mention. You MUST show up to every class - attendance will be a factor he uses to determine if he wants to help your grades or not.
Burton is a pretty boring guy. Lectures can be dry but the course is pretty easy. Its almost all group work so as long as someone knows what theyre doing youre golden
Burton is not a good teacher. His lectures are extremely boring and common knowledge. You do one big group project and it sucks. Its very boring and stupid. I do not recommend.
CIS200 is a general education requirement at missouri state. Burton is an easy teacher. He gives out assignments and gives you a few days to do them. They are easy and as long as you follow instructions, it is an easy. The only thing that sucks is that a big part of your grade is a group project at the end of the year. Group projects are stupid!
Here's the deal with Burton: he is very particular for his assignments and is a tough grader but if you just do what he asks, the class is easy. I enjoyed talking to him and having him as a professor, what a guy (catch him on smoke break). Majority of his class is working in your teams for a final project, challenging but specific guidelines.
I enjoyed the class. Burton is a pretty cool guy, his assignments can sometimes be difficult, but if you do what he asks, you'll be alright. Not too hard to get an A, just show up to class and do what he asks.
Mr. Burton is a nice guy, sometimes. The class is very easy, and it almost seems like a waste of money. Be prepared to do group projects whether you like it or not!
You have to attend most lectures. There's a huge group project due that you work on all semester, then you present it at the end of the semester. He also has a bunch of assignments due throughout the semester, as long as you turn those in you'll get full points. He isn't very helpful.
after reading previous reviews on Burton I thought taking him would be horrible but he's actually really easy going. always gives makeup opportunities but you have to be in class at the time he offers, there's one big group project we work on all year and the rest is easy computer assignments. midterm and final exam are the only tests. easy A
I recommend taking ITC211 before 201! Burton assigns excel assignments and if you do not know the first thing about excel it will be hard! Those that took 211 first did very well on those assignments. His lectures are very boring and his tests are somewhat hard. He does not specify what is going to be on the test but rather just gives you the test.
Mr. Burton is a nice guy, and I'm not normally one to give out bad reviews, but I am frustrated with this class. Mr. Burton's lectures for a long time every class, it's always over common sense principles. His instructions for the "group project" are very unclear until the very end of the semester. He wastes your time, but it's not a hard class.
Burton's class is a joke. ITC 200 is literally just an entire semester to do a massive group project. However, Burton didn't even make the criteria clear for the project until about 3 months in. He's never available outside of class time and he takes weeks to grade anything. Save yourself the headache and don't do it. Seriously, don't do it.
By far the most boring class I have ever taken. If you like bland humor and endless lectures about common sense ideas, Burton is your guy. Assignments are easy, main focus is on two tests and a final group project. Easy class, but painfully boring.
As long as you do the work and work well with your team, the class will not be bad. He sometimes does not give the greatest feedback on assignments. Overall, it was a fine class and Professor Burton was a chill teacher.
Easy class but painful lectures. Powerpoints are very uninteresting. Class is mainly working on a group project for the semester but guidelines for it are vague. The Excel assignments were difficult as he taught us by reading commands off of Powerpoints. You'll need outside help for sure. Everything you'll learn is common sense. 2 tests, not hard.
Lectures are very dry. Class is easy but material is unengaging. Group project is excruciating, and feels unconnected to the material. Most of the class revolves around said project with vague directions on where to take it. You 'learn' about using excel by Burton reading off PowerPoints instead of actually using the program. Didn't learn much.
I took ITC 200 with Burton and it is my least favorite class. Sure it's fairly easy, but the lectures are so boring everyday and it's all common sense material. The class is also a semester-long group project with a group that he assigns, and he is very vague on what we are supposed to do for the project. Don't recommend.
Burton means well and is a nice guy, but the structure of the class is boring. The lectures are over extremely easy, common sense topics but take up the whole class time and almost make it impossible to stay awake. You're assigned a group project over the semester that is very vague and you don't know what you're doing on it until it's due.
Burton himself is a nice guy but the way he teaches is horrible. The lectures are painful to sit through, and the Excel assignments are hard with no clear directions. Group project is given at beginning of semester but he really gives no directions on what to do with it. Also, takes attendance points so good luck with skipping class.
So Burton is an "okay" instructor. It's pretty easy to do well as long as you show up and follow directions. However the group project is so unclear and it's stressful to not know what you are supposed to be doing. Also the excel assignments are super confusing and you have to go in to use a school computer to complete them if you have a Mac.
The whole semester you are working on a group project. Every class is a lecture, then get about 10 minutes at the end to work with your team on the group project. It is not a difficult class to pass, however felt like a huge waste of time. You get a lot of homework. You are required to buy an online textbook that you don't use until halfway through
Lectures every day and is so BORING. there is a semester long project, but my group did it in 2 weeks and got an A. spends the first five minutes of class pushing vaccines.
The most boring class ever! Attendance is required, he makes you put your phone at the edge of your desk and turn off computers, his voice is so monotone, the lectures are common sense stuff and take forever to get through. the whole semester is a group long project that is super unclear and you dont get to pick your groups.
This professor teaches a majority of the ITC 200 classes. Be prepared to be expected to attend every class period (or your grade will be affected). The entire class is a group project, 2 tests, and completion assignments. The professor is HARD to reach about concerns and questions. You might need to reiterate what you are saying a dozen times.
I was lucky enough to get in a group with people I enjoy. This class is mind numbingly boring and he has some weird strict rules about phones/laptops and bathroom usage during class. Burton tries to make it engaging but its just a super boring class and hes way overworked. I'd recommend looking at other professors first if you must take this class.
Treats students like children. Entire course is common sense.
Horrible, do not take. Mandatory attendance for points. multiple choice tests with basically all the same answers, talked to a ton of people in the class and not a single person liked the class. Don't know how he has a job still, to be honest.
This professor took his basic class way too serious. His voice was very boring and he will use up all of the time he is given. You get assigned seats and you get assigned groups. He is so boring I had a hard time staying awake in his class. I would say if you're never tired and love to spend hours in class take him.
Super boring professor for the easiest class ever. Easy A, as long as you go to EVERY class (for points) and can actually stay awake during his boring lectures.
Burton is an interesting guy. He talks so much that you get annoyed, and his lectures were ridiculously boring. We didn't have a real assignment until 1/2 way through the semester. There are really few grades put in, but the work is simple if you do the learning modules. But you have got to attend class, that's a large chunk of the grade. 6/10.
You work on a group project all year, most point assignments come towards the end of the semester. He is a horrible lecturer who is very monotone when speaking. The class overall is a joke, but it's required for COB. This class is very easy if you have a good group who gets stuff done. Attendance policy is a joke (-4 points for 1 day missed).
Attendance was mandatory and for points. However, there is no reason to go to class because it is all common knowledge about how to work with a group for the first half of the year. The second half of the year is excel and PowerPoint; if you don't do it as the program wants, you get a bad grade. On top of everything, you have a group project.
so bad
Burton's class is pretty boring, but it is overall an easy A. You have lectures pretty much every class and there's a semester long project. He grades super easy on all the assignments and there's only 2 tests the whole year with are both all multiple choice. Attendance is mandatory and its a big chunk of you grade. It's a pretty easy class.
This entire course is based off of your randomly assigned group. At the end of the year you present a final. All groups end up getting the same grade even though many presentations suck. Attendance is mandatory even though you will never sit through a more boring lecture. Avoid this class if possible.
slow grader. the finals were based on your own group members, you are given an assigned seat and assigned group in the beginning of the year. very BORING lectures bring a pillow and blanket. you will need to buy Engage unlimited which if I remember was like $100. it might be more/less I forgot, nice prof just boring class.
Dude loves food service
