excellent teacher, approachable, class not very easy
makes history interesting/relavent...great test format, but you must know your stuff for his id and essay questions, get ready to study with an Austrailian accent:)
his class was very clear and there wasn't anything confusing. everything is totally straightforward. I would take him again. he's pretty nice looking too.
Very nice guy. Love the accent.
Summer semester - learning from a fire hose! but good!
He is excited about history which reflects in his teachings. I can't wait to take another class with him as the professor.
He is HOT,plus he has that accent!!! He doesn`t have an attendance policy. All you have to do is be sure you have all the notes. His test are a little hard because you have to make sure you know your stuff. He`s a great teacher.
An amazingly fun teacher who makes you want to learn. His tests were pretty easy, as were most of the rest of the assignments that he gave. He describes himself as "Tough but fair" and I think that this is very accurate.
Dr. Byer's is great! He's intertaining and super intelligent. He's not easy, but he'll tell you exactly what he expects from you. He's ALWAYS available for help and will work with you in getting an A on your term papers. His tests can be essay and some are take home. Highly recommend!
Interesting class with good lectures.
I was honored enough to take his class during summer semester. He quite simply... is impressive in every way. His intelligence far exceeds your expectations and you will find yourself looking forward to going to class. I always knew his support to ensure that you understand was there.
Pretty good professor. He one of my favorites I have had thus far. Pay attention in class and you are guaranteed to do well.
Probably the best professor on campus. An expert on World War Two. Very helpful, understanding and informed on material. Take this guy!
Great professor, open book/note tests, no attendance policy. Very enthusiastic. Take this man!
Good teacher, very insightfull, no attendance policy, but he's so hot what girl, or gay guy for that matter, would want to skip class? His class is challengeing, but also very enjoyable.
He is one of the most sincere teachers i've ever had, and therefore, one of the best. Take his class if you can, if you don't pull an A, it might be due to laziness
This guy rules. Too bad his class seems like it will be soo hard.
AWESOME professor. Knows his stuff, talks about current events and how the class material still affects the world now... almost like a sociology class. Take his classes!
Super guy, will keep your attention at all times. The class subject will get covered you just may not realize you are covering it. He sets things up for you to learn through teaching, the best way to learn. He expects a lot out of your papers, but he tells you up front what he wants.
Excellent prof.
makes class fun!
His accent is amazing and helps you to pay attention. The tests are easy as long as you study the material found on the books website...its pretty much all that. Even if you dont take notes in class dont worry just study the material online, you will make a good grade.
Probably the best hist. teacher ever....knows his stuff...very approachable....good fella.
Brilliant
Dr. Byers is probably one of the best teachers at NGC. He lets you use your notes on the test. He said History researchers use their resources, why can't you? This man is the reason I'm a history major. Take him, you'll thank me.
He is a very good teacher and very knowledgeable. The amount of work is not unreasonalbe but some is irrelevant. I always did all of the readings but that never seemed to matter- he often went off on tangents or barely discussed the novel we were suppose to read. Other than that he is great!
I LOVE Byers. I keep going back to his classes. Very interesting and enthusiastic. Extremely fair grader, but don't expect higher than A- on papers. Looks at your overall performance for the final grade. Very reasonable course load and everything in the higher levels is open book. The best professor I've had and I highly recommend him!
Greatest history teacher i've had so far
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! definatly encourage everyone to take his class...and if you do just remeber que bono!
I love his accent! His tests aren't hard as long as you prepare for them. They're mostly essay questions. He gives you these questions before the test so you can write the answers ahead of time. As long as you do this, take the answers to the professor to correct your answers, and memorize these answers, you'll do well.
Great teacher exciting classes and open book exams. Tough grader on papers but demands your best work! I would recommend him.
I did not realize I would like History class this much. Dr.Byers is a great History teacher. Expectations are clear, he is very helpful if you are willing to seek help, and fair. Offers many opportunities for extra credit if you are not doing so well. If I was a History major, I would try to get into all his classes.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! He is not an easy A or even an easy B for that matter! It's not impossible to do well in his class though. It's almost impossible not to considering that he advocates open book tests, tells you to come to him to overlook your paper, and is just brilliant. Wonderful!
Dr. Byers is the best history professor ever! Consider yourself very fortunate to be in his class, even if it starts at 8 am. Sitting through a lecture by Dr. Byers is like being told a story in a sexy Australian accent. He incorporates plenty of visuals to make the lectures even more enjoyable. His lecture notes are even posted online.
He is an awesome teacher! Always eager to help students and tells you what he expects the first day of class. He always offers a lot of extra credit throughout the semester with seminars around campus and an extra credit paper. If you like your grade after the first two tests then you can choose to not take the last exam.
Dr. Byers is AWESOME!! His tests are kind of tough but after the first one you can learn the format and know how to study for the next one. He is extremely approachable and very helpful. He offers alot of extra credit and is willing to give you the grade you deserve if you put forth the effort. I ended up with an A, but took alot of work! RECCOMEND
He keeps you awake and paying attention. he is excited to teach history and keeps you motivated. the best professor i ever had.
I'm a History major and Dr. Byers is definitely one of my absolute favorite teachers. Historiography is pretty boring and I wouldn't reccommend it unless you have to have it but Dr. Byers kept it interesting with his conspiracy theories and lectures about squirrels! The class isn't overly hard but requires a lot of reading, writing and a group proj
I have always hated history, but Dr. Byers is SO enthusiastic about everything he teaches, it's hard sometimes to not pay attention. He is extremely smart and definitely knows what he's teaching. His tests are kind of hard but so long as you pay attention in class. read his lecture notes online, and read the assigned chapters, you are fine.
Dr. Byers is amazing and is very knowledgable in his feild of study, the tests require alot of study time but it was a wonderfull course all in all
I hated history before taking this class. Dr. Byers made the class so interesting, and I learned so much. You can tell he loves to teach, and from what I have heard, he is the best HIST 1112 teacher at the school. I Highly Recommend him!
Unbelievable teacher! Fantastic lectures and extremely knowledgeable. Although his tests take lots of study time, it is well worth it! Doesn't take attendance and lets you exempt the final if your comfortable with your grade up till then. Overall, perfect teacher! Take Byers!
Dr. Byers is a fantastic professor who knows his material. I was never interested in modern history but I learned an incredible amount of information in his course and actually enjoyed it. Discussion is mandatory. Read the course packet and the assigned books. He is really approachable and helpful outside of class. I would take his class again!
Love this professor! Got to class and study his written notes for the first 2 tests and if you like your grade you don't have to take the final or attend class the last 2 weeks! He is so interesting and knowledgeable, he loves what he teaches! So easy! Get an A on the first 2 tests and you are done! Best teacher ever!
Great professor. He keeps class interesting. You've gotta love his Australian accent as well. I would love to have him as a teacher again. Highly recommended.
Dr. Byers is one of the best professors I have ever had. I am taking Historiography with him now and plan to take Twentieth Century Europe in the future. He is a fantastic teacher and friend that everyone should take at least once! Really makes you think!
Makes what could be a boring class, very interesting. 3 tests including final. But final is OPTIONAL! He doesn't tell you until the end that it's optional. TONS of extra credit opportunities! The extra credit brought my grade from a B to an A! Do it! Tests are somewhat difficult. But read his notes and go to class and you can get an A or B!
This dude is awesome. Nice guy, and treats you like an adult. 5 stars.
DR. BYERS IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! He is knowledgeable, passionate, fair, and simply a great professor and human being. He is a conspiracy theorist but backs up his claims with evidence. Tests are open book, but don't take that lightly. You will work in his class, but TAKE HIM. Remember, Que bono?
P.Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney!!! Thats all I think about when I am in his class (Australian). Do not sit in the front row, he spits!! No homework, tests are pretty easy, but if you don't make good grades on those you're screwed because ALL you have for a grade, if you dont do extra credit, are the tests. So make sure you study the ID questions!
He is one of the best professors that I have had so far. He makes the class very interesting and he explains everything in detail. His test can be a little difficult, but he tells you ahead of time exactly what he's going to ask so you know exactly what to study. If you have the chance, take his class.
Awesome guy super approachable and willing to help you! make sure you study for tests and ask people who have taken him before about the tests...also you dont have to come the last two weeks of class or take the final if you are happy with your grade! i would definitely recommend him!
Byers is a great teacher for World Civilizations. There are only 2 tests, and the final is not cumulative and is just like the other tests. If you are happy with your grade before the final you don't have to take it, but doesn't tell you until the week before Grades on improvement. Read all the material and you can easily make an A.
This Professor is the best ever! Keeps you interested from beginning to end. Tests are 6 ID Qs - 3/4 page essays - real easy if you follow along & take notes in class. There is also 10 ea of multiple choie & T/F. 2 tests & final, if you are ok with your grade after 2 tests you can skip the final. The class was entertaining & educational. Take it!
Incredible and Brilliant Professor! Take his class, he is just wonderful. His class in so interesting, and is not too hard if you read the notes and assigned chapter. His hot accent is the cherry on top.
Dr. Byers is awesome! You must take his class if you have the chance. His class is very interesting and he is hilarious! I love him and can't wait to take more of his classes. His test's are easy as long as you read his notes!
Best Professor at North Georgia. Super guy who keeps you interested at all times. He is also a very brilliant professor!
Very odd man, but great teacher!
He is very easily off topic and often talks about future conspiracies that he has. We had 2 tests, a book review, and a group project as well as a few small papers. I thought his grading system was unfair because he wasn't very clear on his expectations. Easy concepts but he made it difficult.
I really liked Dr.Byers at the beginning of the semester. However, towards the end he has gotten rude and difficult. He grades pretty harshly and seems aggravated if you go to his office for help. He used to explain what he wanted, but now he kind of misleads and greats strictly. He is an interesting professor though. He can be entertaining!
I am not sure what the last people are talking about! This is a GREAT professor! He is extremely nice and helpful! He is so smart and hilarious! Makes history interesting and fun! He will help you all you need and is clear on what he wants.Lastly,HE IS SO HOT and I LOVE HIS ACCENT!
Yes, he digresses and yes, he is a bit eccentric, but he is extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He is a tough grader so if you are looking for an easy A, he's not the professor for you. If you want to really learn the material and enjoy the class, take him. Out of all the history professors (I'm a history major), he's one of my favorites!
This professor is awesome. He always makes class interesting no matter the material. So far, he is the best teacher I have ever had. As a history major, I am very excited to take more of his classes, because is extremely knowledgeable and makes history uber fun and interesting!
There is not a better professor at UNG than Byers, seriously. The dude is a great teacher. Take him if you have the chance, you won't be sorry and you'll learn more than you ever have!
This is the greatest professor you will ever have. He is extremely dedicated and cares about what he is teaching.
Dr. Byers is a great professor. To the point. Don't try to "pretend" to read and you will get a good grade.
Dr. Byers is a great professor. His class is extremely interesting. I learned a lot; however, his tests are extremely hard. Class attendance is a MUST. He takes role every single day. On a more positive note, his accent is beautiful!
Byers is amazing. A master of his craft, making you WANT to attend every class. Not an Easy A, but he makes it obtainable. Very approachable and is very willing to help. Only nickpick is I ended up with a 89.5 average...and got a B. :( Would recommend.
absolutely great guy. loves what he does and is willing to help anyone outside of class. only has 2 or 3 tests all year with the final being 40% of your grade. extra credit he gives is not worth your time, asks for long papers in return for 2 points. I was failing all year but studied very hard for the final and ended up passing the class. take him
Professor Byers is like a tiger released from his cage when he teaches! The passion, clarity, and knowledge he has will help you succeed. Only 3 tests (including final), so do your best. He grades on improvement. Test #1 = 73%, #2 = 93% #3 = exemption. Go to every extra credit opportunity and do the optional book review! Wonderful class :)
Dr. Byers is extremely energetic and passionate about world history. He tends to go off on tangents, but is very entertaining and clear on what he's looking for on exams. Definitely visit his office hours; he will be happy to assist you. Zero class participation is necessary but he will drop you if you fail to attend more than 4 or 5 classes.
Byers is amazing, but his tests are not super easy. Go to his office hours so he can tell you what to include/not include in your ID questions. Also, you don't really need to read the book, just make sure you are familiar with the bold faced words. You can exempt the final if you like your grade after the first 2 exams. Take him.
His lectures can be super boring, but you don't have to pay attention to get an A. Use his notes to prepare for the exam, and go to office hours and have him look over the ID questions. His tests have 6 essays, and they are very specific so really prepare for them! You can exempt the final if you do well on the first 2 tests.
Good teacher and he knows what he is talking about. There are three tests and you get to exempt the final if you choose too. There are also a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Everyone who takes this class should get an A.
The talk of 'conspiracy theorist' is slightly harsh; Byers is merely a skeptic. His 'question everything' approach is central to his teaching style and will force you to consider World History from multiple perspectives. Highly recommended. Take thorough notes and you'll succeed--if you have a good World History background, you won't need the text.
I wish I could give him a good rating. His class was incredibly interesting and challenging, but I'm afraid when a teacher loses my exam grade and fails me without any kind of warning on a test I received a B on, I can't say anything except how I'm baffled by his lack of integrity, honesty, and organization. Will NEVER make that mistake again.
Dr Byers is a great teacher, he truly has that gift of making learning easy and interesting. He's fair, intelligent, very gifted storyteller, and very knowledgeable about history. Tests are hard, but he gives you everything you need to study ahead of time. You will not be bored or disappointed - absolutely fabulous class!
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT BOOK!! Do not buy the etext, not worth the money because he doesn't really use it for the tests.
Very good teacher. Tells a lot of interesting stories. Tests involve a lot of writing based on in class notes. Study a lot and yu should be okay.
Man knows his stuff! hes very helpful, go see him in his office. long lectures, books mandatory, TAKE NOTES ON WHAT HE SAYS. date your notes, then can cite them on papers!
Dr. Byers is an amazing professor. I throughly enjoyed his class, his lectures are incredible, but long. I took great notes and the things he said in class you actually used on the tests. You need to know how to write coherent essays, there are 3-6 ID questions on every test plus multiple choice. I highly recommend Dr. Byers!
Dr. Byers gives very few tests, but he grades based on improvement. If you bomb the first test but make As on the next tests, then your grade will end up as an A. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities that he gives; they can save your grade!
He is a story teller, not a lecturer. For the most part, he will tell you if the topic he is about to lecture will be on the exam. If you show improvement over the course, he gives you an A. GO TO THE EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES! I got 18 bonus points added on to the 3 test grades and finished with a high A. The final is optional.
Take him. Yeah the tests are kinda tricky but if you study and pay attention in class you'll get an A. Also, not having to show up to the last few weeks of class or take the final because I had an A in the class made studying absolutely worth it. He's just a great guy.
Great teacher. Has long lectures and tests can be a bit difficult but he gives tons of extra credit.
I loved having Dr. Byers. His tests are a little tough but if you write out what you need to say for the tests, he will proofread and give you feedback. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. I did and got an A in the class and did not have to take the final. If I had the chance, I would take him again. He is great. Just read and pay attention!
Great professor! Would highly recommend to anyone. Very passionate over the material that he teaches and knows his stuff! Tests are tough but if you study and read the book/notes it wont be bad. Gives out extra credit and even though some are only 2 points it will help out in the end.
I absolutely loved this class, and Dr. Byer's is a great professor. His lectures are long but very interesting. Take notes in class because they will help you on the ID questions for the tests. He gives plenty of options for extra credit. I would definitely recommend you take his class!
The class is an easy A if you attend every lecture. His lectures are interesting and he gives relevant advice and is also very funny. His tests can be hard, but attend all extra credit opportunities! I had over 20 points of extra credit and made an A with two B's on tests. He lets you exempt the final too! Definitely take him!
Had I taken this class more seriously and attended more often, an A would have been very attainable. Awesome teacher who offers lots of EC. Highly recommend!
Dr. Byers is the best teacher I have EVER had. He gives out three tests during the semester which determine your grade. He also gives out tons of extra credit opportunities. He also lets you exempt the final. His tests are HARD. I studied constantly the week before the test. He is a tough grader, but is wonderful. He should be a comedian. Love him!
Professor Byers is great! I loved taking his World Civilizations class. He is so passionate about history. He gives long lectures but they are very interesting and engaging. The tests consist of multiple choice questions & a section of three essay questions plus XC. He also offer XC throughout the year. He is very helpful; I highly recommend him!
Dr. Byers is one of those few professors that you find that are seriously passionate about what they teach and he passes that passion onto his students. His lectures are amazing and entertaining and you learn so much. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, only has 3 tests. My favorite professor, I would take all of his classes if possible!
Stellar professor. Passionate about his subject, gives great lectures, and opens the floor to 'round table' discussions with the entire class. Encourages participation and gives great feedback. As a History major I've been able to take multiple classes with this and they have all been outstanding.
Dr. Byers is the best professor I have had at UNG. He does lecture the whole class, but he gives you class notes that hit his key points. He is hilarious and a wonderful teacher. He gives you extra credit and if you are satisfied with your grade after the third test, he will exempt you from class and his final. You should take him.
He is a great professor who gives you the things you need succeed if you try. I didn't like the subject that he teaches but he made it enjoyable and he tells you what you need to study for his test. There is nothing on his tests that he hasn't talked about.
Professor Byers was easily the best history teacher I've ever had! There were no study guides for tests but he would tell us the topics to know for essay parts. As long as you read the chapters and listen to his lectures, you'll do fine. He's really funny and is willing to help you get the best grade you can. He also gives tons of extra credit!
He's a good professor. There's only 3 test the whole semester with no homework so don't mess up the tests. The test are fairly hard. The lecture is so boring. He even knows he puts you to sleep. There are EXC opportunities but he only gives 2 points per paper and then up to 10 for a book report. Vert tough grader on the 4 essays on the tests.
Dr. Byers was an amazing professor. He made class fly by because of his interesting lectures. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches. He offers an overload of extra credit, so there is no excuse for not passing the class if you show effort. He is from Australia, making him very fun to listen to!
Best teacher I have EVER had by far. His lectures are long, but he makes them interesting. He occasionally goes off on tangents but its usually great advice about life. His tests are difficult, and there are only 3 tests that determine your grade so MAKE SURE TO STUDY. Definitely recommend his class.
LOVE HIM! He is great! Tests are tough as expected, but he gives the essay questions before. If you get a chance take him! He offers so much extra credit, and you can exempt the final if you are happy with your grade. Best professor!
Take this professor if you can! If you do most the extra credit opportunities, the A is yours. I got out of taking the final this way. All of his notes are online. I printed them out and highlighted during class. The tests are mostly essay based but he tells you the prompts early, along with the bonus essay. He is a great professor with an accent.
Dr. Byers is an awesome professor! He is Australian, so he does have an accent. His lectures are very interesting and exciting. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities that can raise your average a letter grade. His exams include multiple choice questions and essay questions. I would definitely recommend this professor.
This class is all lecture but all his notes are online. The tests are extremely difficult with a lot of writing. The multiple choice and T/F questions are difficult & over the text book and then you have 4 full page essays. I worked really hard and only got a B. He offers a lot of extra credit! DO IT ALL, if you show effort he will help your grade!
Richard Byers is a wonderful history teacher. He makes his class interesting and engaging. His gives a lot of extra credit, so take advantage of it. His test are not that bad, He gives you the ID questions beforehand and he will check them for you. There are very few multiple choice questions, so they are worth a lot. Make sure you read it helps!!!
He is a great professor that is passionate about the material so it makes it really interesting. The tests are hard so going to class/paying attention is your best bet do succeed, notes are online too. There's a lot of extra credit so do as many as you can, they can make a big difference in your grade. I would definitely take a class with him again
I have taken Dr. Byers twice. I took him for World History 2 and History of Modern Southeast Asia (3510) in the summer. His lectures are very informative, and they prepare you for the tests/papers. He does have high standards, but as long as you read, and pay attention in lecture, you will be fine. If you work hard, you will get a good grade.
I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Byers. He's very knowledgeable about what he teaches, you can literally throw anything at him and he'll give you a detailed and articulate answer. You can tell that he's enthusiastic about what he does, and as a student it makes the class so much more engaging.
Dr. Byers is an amazing professor! His tests are difficult, so make sure to pay attention in class. If you do poorly on a test, he offers a TON of extra credit that can be added to your lowest test grade. He's extremely willing to work with you and help you if you reach out. If you're not understanding something he's talking about speak up. Amazing
Dr. Byers is very passionate, overall a great teacher! He has three exams; the exams are 40% multiple choice and true/false and 60% essay responses. The multiple choice and true/false questions come from the textbook, and the essay material comes from the lecture. You need to prepare for the tests, as he looks for detailed essay responses.
For this class Dr. Byers grades on improvement so even if you completely bomb the first test as long as you improve with each one he will give you an A. And he gives a TON of extra credit. It seriously impacted my grade and I highly suggest taking this course with him because of that.
Byers is great, but beware his exams! You only have 2 exams plus the final. The exams are 10 multiple choice (from textbook), 5 true or false (from textbook), and 4 essay questions that have to be a page each (from lecture). They aren't bad if you study. Offers a ton of extra credit. Let's you skip the final if you have an A after first two exams.
Dr. Byers is my favorite teacher this year. He is easily available for help out of class which is what helped me receive an A in his class. His lectures are long but jam packed with information and if you miss anything in them he posts his lecture notes online for you to study. Tests pretty difficult but he offers extra credit so an A is achievable
One of my favorite professors hands down! I am not a history person at all but he made me like history. His lectures are long and a little boring, but he teaches his class more than just history. He truly wants you to succeed. I did not make above a B on any of my exams but still got an A because I attended the extra credit events. Highly recommend
I took this professor because he was the highest rated history professor on the Dahlonega campus. What an amazing professor! He makes learning fun. His lectures immerse you in the scene. He makes grading clear and if you fail it is because you did not try. Offers so much extra credit that it is not even fair. Would recommend to anybody
Professor Byers made history the most interesting class. He is very passionate about teaching, and he knows what he is talking about. His accent and humor make the class even better. If you get a chance to take him, definitely do.
Very lecture based, so taking notes in his lectures is a must. His tests are manageable if you prep for them. For the multiple choice, skim the textbook for the bolded terms and study those. For the essay questions, he gives you the topic beforehand so practice writing them before the test. Tons of extra credit. $50 textbook. Great professor!
Great professor, just make sure to do well on the tests and you'll get an A. Great lecturer.
He grades you on improvement. Lectures are easy to follow. Take notes, pay attention, do the readings, and you'll pass. Gives lots of out of class extra credit as well as extra credit on the tests.
Dr. Byers is a great professor. He genuinely cares about students in his classes, and wants them to succeed. His World History II course isnt too hard, provided you show up to classes and pay attention. The textbook is all online, and he will tell you exactly what to go study before tests. There is no homework, quiz or daily grades: only tests.
Professor Byers has a great personality but I struggle with his teaching style. He expects you to be as precise as he is in your I.D. questions. The lectures never matched up with what the test was about. Someone else might do good with him but I did not. I would only recommend it if you are looking for a challenge.
FALL 2018 By far, my favorite history professor. He gives hilariour lectures, narrating the history as a story and makes it interesting. There are a lot of notes you should be taking but if you miss class, he puts them online. However, you don't want to miss class or you'll miss a few important details that would be on the test. 10/10 recommend.
Splits the grade between 3 tests, 1 of which is the final. Keeps his lectures engaging and interactive. He actually made me want to go to class and looks out for his students.
Dr. Byers is incredibly energetic. He is very passionate about his subject and does a great job of pulling you into the lecture. His explanations are easy to comprehend.
Dr. Byers was the highlight of an awful semester. The COVID crisis has created a lot of uncertainty and a lot of added stress on students. Dr. Byers was already an amazing professor, but he further demonstrated this by being so accommodating and caring. His lessons were fascinating and he gives ample room for creativity with projects.
This is by far the most bizarre class you'll find. You only have 3 Exam grades, and everything else is extra credit for the rest of the semester. Deadlines on the extra credit are extremely lenient
This dude makes you buy the book he wrote to use in class. It just seems like a scummy thing to do. For him to require a book that you can only get through a subscription-based website just feels like he is trying to profit off of his students.
Really does care about you and your grade, multiple extra credit opportunists and test make ups if needed. Attendance is preferred, let’s you sleep if you work and are tired as long as you record the lecture while sleeping. Loved him, would absolutely take him again.
At first, I was unsure of this class. His syllabus makes it seem like a lot, but you literally only have 3 test grades (which are pretty easy) and the rest is optional extra credit. Plus, his accent cracks me up!
Dr. Byers is an incredibly passionate teacher. His accent and enthusiasm make the lectures very interesting. He is always open to questions, no matter what they are. His tests are take home, but they still can be difficult. My main takeaway would be to go to class and just listen to the man talk. Also don't buy the $40 textbook, you won't need it.
I thought his class was very easy. You only have 3 tests total including the final, which you can exempt. His tests were open note with multiple choice and a writing section over certain topic. He gives the topics before hand and is overall a really interesting guy.
Dr. Byers was the sweetest! You only have to take 2 exams if you get a high enough grade!
He is amazing. So kind and respectful towards every student and truly cares. Wants to work well with you and see you succeed. Lots of lectures and reading, however, he makes it barrable. I've taken him three times since my freshman year and he is educated and likes to show movies and videos. My favorite professor ever!
He's really awesome but DO THE EXTRA CREDIT MOVIES!!!! it's a pain but it'll save you because the tests are hard!
Dr. Byers is a very professional professor and is helpful and concise with his instruction. Recommend for those who are new to college life as he provides very helpful advice on the change in life.
This is my second time taking Byers and I am thoroughly impressed with his knowledge, compassion, and ability. He gives intriguing lectures, both in person and online. I think Dr. Byers is a wonderful addition to UNG's History department, one that I believe has some of the best professors and advisers. Take him if you ever get the opportunity!
I highly suggest Dr. Byers! His course online you are faced with quizzes every week, discussion posts every week along with readings from the textbook and videos, and in addition two papers that discussion a specific topic. Even though this might seem like a heavy load Dr. Byers is quick in his respond times, if needed assistance with any of this.
Loved Professor Byers! I took World History online but I wish I could have taken it in person. At the beginning of the semester he did a personal zoom meeting with everyone to see how we were doing in the class and if we had any questions. He was very helpful and the assignments and quizzes we every week were very easy! I definitely recommend him!
I've heard really good things about his in person class. However, I was only able to take it online. I don't regret it, but I feel like i could've gotten a better grade in person. His tests online were only 5-10 questions which kinda messed me up. However, I still got a high B. He's an awesome guy and really good professor overall.
Dr. Byers is one of my favorite professors in the History dept and I have taken several of his classes. His online classes can be paper heavy, but there is a clear cut criteria and plenty of notice for what he expects and he is always responsive to questions.
first professor I've had in a while who gave a damn about what he teaches.
Byers teaches strictly lecture based. He is very entertaining and clearly knows what he is talking about and you can tell that he enjoys what he teaches. His tests can be difficult. He tells you upfront what the 3 ID writing topics will be so you can plan ahead. The mc and t/f questions are harder because he doesn't go into detail about those.
Dr. Byers is engaging, funny, and dedicated to his students! He has online lecture notes, so you can listen during class and lectures in a way that makes history feel alive. Honestly, he is why I decided to be a history minor, and every class enthralled me. Use the textbook for stuff not covered in class and the notes. 10/10 amazing guy!!!
Professor Byers makes history engaging with his lively lectures. The class isn't too difficult if you stay on top of the readings and use helpful study tools like unstuck AI and the free textbook. He's understanding and gives multiple opportunities to succeed.
This is my second time taking one of his classes. He is a very passionate lecturer and very knowledgeable about his subjects. He's very flexible and easy to work with. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of taking these courses.
I didn't interact with him much due to the nature of an online course, but from my interactions he seems like a really cool Australian guy who is passionate about history. Quizzes and short responses every week. Tests every now and then. Also, don't forget about the two essays that are due during the course, you have to email them to him.
pretty easy and he teaches wonderful
I love his lectures, he clearly knows what he's talking about and is passionate about it. The syllabus and schedule was only roughly followed. You will find more use out of his personal website where his handwritten notes are than anything else. There are only two graded assignments the entire semester and those are the tests. Do the movie reviews.
He is an AMAZING lecturer. The lectures are always engaging. His feedback is very good as well. It's clear he truly cares about what he teaches. There are almost no assignments for History of the Holocaust. Lots of reading, but only 3 papers, and one research project. That's it. I would recommend taking this class if possible
Loved Byers, he cares for his students deeply. He doesn't take attendance, at least in 1112, but 60/100 points of the tests are based on the lectures. The other 40 is the textbook. Also, his lectures were interesting to me. Graded based on only 3 tests, if you're happy with your grade on the first 2, you can exempt the final. Pretty easy
Do not take this professor. (I'm his son just trying to get a rise out of him)
