Very challenging, but very informative
Very informative but he wants you to know a lot and his tests are wordy.
Extremely hard - but, he cares enough to put the effort in.
Too wordy. This guy doesn't want too many A's in his class.
I really liked the physiology portions of the course. The phylogeny was O.K.. He really cares about us. Need more like him.

Great lecturer. Give out hard test.
He failed me! >:|
thought he was pretty good til he gave out his final. That test sucked! not even worth the studying!

Cardullo is excellent. I highly recommend him. He is one of the best bio teachers I have had.
he's a good professor, but.. i don't like his presentations. he changes the slide before i finish copying and then he says it's all on ilearn. ok yea...how am i supposed to understand what u just talked about without getting the chance to read it?
He's a really good professor! He goes kinda fast though. Fun to listen to in class. He makes everything interesting. And study hard cuz the tests are terrible!
great lecturer :) tests that make you think
VERY HARD CLASS!!! Tests are impossible unless you get help from the instructor.
this class is all about memorization, if you're not willing to memorize this class will be HARD~! he explains clearly so take good notes and study them, and then read the book! then you will be fine.
Go to office hours a few times and he will go out of his way to help you. Read the book, do not just attend lecture.
His tests were freaking wack. I studied my a$$ off and neglected all my 3 other classes. I ended up passing the other ones with A's and got a D in his. I passed the lab with a C+ but his tests were just wack. OMG they were too analytical.
Great class with a great prof!!!! This guy really makes you think rather than just memorize. I hope that I will have this much energy and enthusiasm when I am his age. A must take course if you are really interested in Cell.
Very tricky tests, multiple right answers per question, so you don't know which one to pick. Better study if you want a passing grade
All of the lecture notes are online, just go through them and you'll do well. I never went to class, and barely studied...got a B-. He's not bad for a UCR bio professor. He's very approachable too.
Very nice and makes class interesting. His tests are very hard and tricky. Read the book and go to class, and if you dont completely understand every single detail go to office hours.
this teacher presents material in an organized fashion and kicks ass
one of the best teachers by far!
this guy is smart. he knows his stuff and know how to teach it.
This guy's funny and smart as hell. Good teacher.
I wish my psych classes were this good. This prof is tops!
He is a good professor. He presents the material in a clear and organized way. He is also funny, making the class entertaining. If you don't go to class make sure you read the book. Labs are important too.
Had him for Bio. 5A, fall quarter 2005. Awesome teacher and he explains concepts very clearly. Tests are tricky, but that's to be expected when going through the Bio 5 series. Overall I recommend him if anyone is planning to take biology.
He presents ALOT of info to learn and the tests test most of it. You need to attend classes and study the slides otherwise you will not do well. Alot of info is only said in lecture - not in the slides. That being said, the class can get longwinded quickly. Bring coffee! The lab is also an easy grade so long as you attend.
Such a great teacher!! He makes the class really interesting. A lot of what is tested is based on notes, but it doesn't hurt to read as well. The lab helps a great deal in terms of exams. And the labs are so much easier than 5A.
He may not be the easiest professor in the world, but he is certainly the best one at UCR. If you're stuck with taking the painfully difficult Bio 5 series at UCR, Cardullo should be at the top of your "professors to take" list. Also, the TAs are the best resource to use for this class... take advantage.
Excellent in all respects. He rocks and he cares!
HE IS AMAZING. LECTURES ARE INTERESTING LOTS OF MATERIAL. HE IS NICE AND WILLING TO HELP. TAKE HIM BUT BE READY TO WORK!
Best professor ever and the easiest! I recommend him if you want an easy A+
lectures are really clear, always available and helpful in office hours, and the tests are do-able.
He is a great prof! He cares for his students and has a fair grading system. Oh yeah, for those of u who don't know, if u r taking a bio class, do not procrastinate on reading. seriously it's hard but if u procrastinate ull end up with C or below so be aware
really good professor. Very clear lectures and interesting!!! reading is a must otherwise you'll fall behind!!
Hard subject, but a very good professor.Come to class if you dont want to read the whole chapter cuz he goes over the important stuff.plus there are clickers. He brings up a lot of interesting facts. one of the best bio professors i've had
his midterms were a fair game and he knows his material really well. he is very helpful during office hours and i would highly recommand taking this professor.
Really interesting and relevant. His teaching style is engaging and fun. Out of ten I give him an eleven +!
Very helpful teacher is also the chair of the biology department so if your a bio major he is awesome will help you if you goto office hours lecturers are mandatory in the sense that if you go you will get all the info you need for the test and will hardly need to go through the book.
The best biology prof I've had. Extremely helpful and really cares.
Best Biology Professor.Generous grading. But you have to study hard as biology is a difficult course.TA she is great.SI TA she is very helpful.
This professor is hard core. He gives you super hard exams that are nothing like the practice exams. He is not as easy people say. Do not take this professor unless you want to hurt your gpa. I had to take this class because of him.
Professor was on top of the material, stayed after class, and was available to all students. Not easy stuff but he knows how to teach it. Exams were doable if you took the time to study and put in the effort.
Cardullo is capable of teaching very well, but his lectures are pointless. His lectures are a waste of your time. You have to walk away with a C in his class.
His tests are ridiculously hard. No one should take his class.
Cardullo is a fair professor, but he has high expectations. If you follow his advice and study regularly, you can do well.
He is not a very good teacher. His grading scale is unfair.
Prof. Cardullo won a UC Riverside Teaching Award and is a member of the UCR Academy of Distinguished Teaching. His grading curves are the same as those of other professors that teach Bio 5A.
Cardullo is a very decent professor, but his midterms and final are challenging. His lecture notes won't help you pass his class.
You have to do loads of work in his class. His lectures are hard to understand at times.
Cardullo makes an effort to teach, but his exams are just too hard.
His lectures are easy to understand, but his exams are challenging. He has a harsh grading system.
Cardullo is an excellent professor and has won awards for it at UCR. Many students in his classes get As (I am one). You have to work hard. It is sad that students that do poorly choose this website as an immature way to vent their frustrations, instead of just taking responsibility for their own shortcomings. Biology is a hard subject, period.
i took this class over summer, honestly he is one of the most passionate professors I've ever had, and taking his class seriously made me think of switching my major to biology. The class of coarse require you to think and work, but it is not an impossible class, you just have to put into it what you expect to get out of it. I strongly recommend hi
Good class, good prof, learned a lot. Grading is fair and expectations are clear.
cool dude. tests were fair. you get what you put in. he tells you everything you need to know, which makes the readings easy. i would recommend any day.
I have taken a number of courses at UCR but this one was truly unique. Cardullo challenged us by having us solve problems in class and we also got to work in groups. Tests were hard but he spoke with each of us after the first midterm. He clearly is a step above any one I have ever had and I learned a lot of Cell Biology along the way!
Dr. Rich Cardullo is great. He made learning bio fun and easy. He is genuinely interested in answering your questions, listening to what you have to say and even listening about what you want to do in life. Go to office hours and you should be good. The material itself isn't hard but if you don't understand something, he's more than willing to help
He is a great professor. He cares about his students and makes class very interesting with relevant research. In our class, we were challeneged by reading scientific papers, interpreting graphs and coming up with our own experiments. It is the way a class should be taught-we were forced to think, not just regurgitate information like all the others
I took this class a couple of years ago and, to be honest, I thought that Dr. Cardullo was way too hard. But now that I am taking upper division classes I realize that he was outstanding. He taught me So much and because of that, I am getting As in all of my upper division classes. Thank you Dr. Cardullo - I hope to see you again!
the best professor i ever had in UCR! he challenged us to the full extent during a five week course. tests were fair but you really have study to earn a good grade. you may think bio 2 is walk in the park class but it actually isn't. if you plan to take his class, be ready to work. overall, i learned alot from this class.
Professor Cardullo is simply one of the best professors at UCR. Yes his class is challenging, but you learn a lot, especially for a summer class. Highly Recommended but be prepared to work! Has a nice curve.
He is a great teacher. Pay attention in class, study his notes provided, and do the practice exam then you will be fine. His clicker questions can be tough. His class is a bit challenging, but he is willing to help. He makes bio more interesting and fun to learn =]
Cardullo is definitely not the easiest bio 5a professor. He explains concepts clearly, but he tries to trick us on every other question on midterms.
Decent professor. Tries to make material relevant but it's hard. You will need to read and study notes.
I took this class a few years ago and I really appreciated Dr. Cardullo's commitment to quality teaching. It was not until I took Human Anatomy and Physiology in Medical School that I understood how good he actually was. Because of him I was near the top of my class. In fact, he was better than any of my med school professors!
Cardullo is AMAZING. Going to office hours is definitely a smart thing to do cause he usually goes over the things that are on the midterm. Do the questions in the back of the book and go to lecture and you will get at least average. If you read the book and go to office hours, you can def get above average. Not easy A but do-able
Dr. Cardullo is not the best professor out there. I barely understood his lectures because of his mumbling and his midterm was just too tricky! I would never take another class with Cardullo ever again. His teaching made me want to switch majors. He is redundant and does not seem to go over anything important for exams.
Read book. Go to class. Go to all office hours. I did 2/3 and got B range. Do all three and you can be like my friends that got A's. He's a good professor and his tests are what you should expect for prepping to health school.
This class was by no means easy. If you can avoid him do it! Talks in a monotone voice and tests are convoluted, overly conceptual and basically impossible.
It is not a reasonable task to expect students to have this massive amount of material memorized in time for tests. SI was helpful. This course sets students up for failure. Large amount of guest lecturers made learning the material more difficult, harder to get a feel of what Cardullo wanted us to know. Dr Gu was EXTREMELY hard to understand.
he tells you exactly what you need to study for the midterms bc he sends out an email list of "must know topics". Those are related to the midterm questions. His midterms are very fair and do-able, and Dr. Gu's midterm is easier than his. You really need to study everyday and his hw are unlimited attempts. study a lot for his quizzes too.
Cardullo himself seems like a fun & friendly person. Can't say much about grading since TA's do it. HNPG002W as a class was amazing. Special guests almost every lecture and eye-opening books. Not too hard of a class if you can write a good essay. Two things I took from this class: Riverside isn't that bad and be civically engaged. HNPG002W > ENGL1.
Cardullo is a nice guy, but his class isn't the easiest. But since this is an Honors course, I sort of expected it. You HAVE to attend class otherwise your participation and discussion grade will drop significantly. Also, you have to participate in discussion. Total of three papers, all weighted pretty heavily.
Pretty easy class, use a lot of memorization, highly recommend
He gives really important lectures and changes the content every year. Graded on three major papers. Discussion and participation is taken into account too. Its not an easy A but if you TRY and show YOURE putting effort youll breeze through. Make sure you get a good TA because they control your grade. He does read every essay though.
Go to TA's office hours, the peer writing assistant's office hours, and the ENGL 007 office hours before all papers. The majority of the class is papers, so pick topics that interest you, don't wait until the last minute, and meet with TAs to discuss feedback. The lectures, discussions, and papers don't really overlap, but an interesting subject.
Fun seminar class based on 4 dystopian novels. A few weeks into the class, the professor steps back to allow the students to lead the discussion. It was a fun way to collaborate with classmates! Grading is also pretty low-stress minus the final essay; as long as you show up and participate, it's full points. Overall, a very fun class and professor!
Not bad
it was tough but the professor works with you
TAs make or break the class
two papers make up the grade, talk to the professor because he helps a lot more than the TAs
professor was genuinely caring
Material that was presented was informative. I learned a great deal about the Inland Empire and opportunities to get civically engaged. It's a lot of work but, after all, it is an Honors course.
This was a unique course. Lectures were interesting and a lot of information about Riverside and the surrounding areas was presented. The class is definitely doable if you stay on top of the reading and give yourself enough time to write the essays and papers.
