Very helpful; makes class interesting; party at the end
tellls it like it is, makes class interesting, and tests are easy
Harrison Ford as a professor
I actually looked forward to class
Great professor. Knows his stuff and makes learning interesting.
One term paper/essay & multiple choice tests/multilple choice quizes
Very interesting lecture, helpful, has field trips and study groups at his office.
He's interesting and knowledgable. Very positive and upbeat yet real and genuine. He's interesting and they way he lectures keeps you motivated and interested. Very Funny. It's already an interesting class and he proves it.
Class is interesting and funny most of the time. Sometimes seems a little bit arrogant and egotistical, but knowing that he's a knowledgeable archaeologist, I think he has the right to brag a bit. Interesting class overall. Recommended.
Class is awesome, and most of the time interesting. Sometimes it drags, but hey, we only met once a week!!
Very rewarding class definitely worth taking. This teacher makes it very interesting gives different views on American Indians and how to look at them. Readings are not bad at all and tests are thorough but if you use the study guide he give youll be ok
This guy is a great teacher, he is my favorite. I DEFINATELY recommend his class! He is only there half the time anyway. He's nice and funny, material is interesting and easy. Trust me.
the lectures are long, but they're very entertaining. he does seem arogant at times, but he doesn't do it in a jerk way. he'll make you watch a video at barona museum because he's all over it. i strongly recommend this class. good amount of reading, but we have over a month to read it.
Can we stay "ON" topic for once? And possible limit the study guide to what's actually gonna be on the test instead of a bunch of crap that's not
Excellent lecturer and challenging. Go to class - do what you need to do - take notes and study, you'll do well. He needs to simply watch students while testing to catch cheaters instead of his little tricks, though. Docking non-cheaters 2 points for not writing in their seat # is pretty low.

Lectures are out of sequence. Jumps around a lot! If you are used to a structured lecturs, this guy is all over the place! Readings are boring. His tests are detailed and tricky. Read and record lectures or FAIL!
Tough but fair, detailed readings, do not skip class - ever. Offers weekend study groups on his own time before tests - what teacher does that? If you're not willing to work hard, skip this class, if you want to learn from a great lecturer, however, he's the man!!!
take class only if your willing to learn about another culture. quizes can be alittle challenging and you have to read a lot of short stories. He's really interesting and i wish all my classes were like his. TAKE THIS CLASS. He is fair and gives you what you deserve. Totally understands students.
Freaking cool guy and very helpful and knowledgable about the subject!!
It is not an easy class, but it is fascinating. Study then study more for the tests, especially the essay part. Great Prof. to listen to, tells history in a great way.
Richard rocks! He is super nice and the class is really interesting. He knows so much about what he is teaching and doesn't just want to teach you the facts... it's a really meaningful class and I will def. take 440
I thought this class was pretty easy except for the paper, I cant stand writing them. His lectures are great and make sure you go to them. And for the tests make sure you do the guides he hands out and prepare to study them 3+ hours before tests. I would take a class with him teaching it any day.
easiest class I have ever taken. Its kind of a joke. Very little work and the professor is very unprofessional. take this class if you are a frat boy or an ****.
Great teacher. Has a true passion for the class. He makes class interesting. keep up with reading and you'll do good in class
great teacher very passionate. Class is interesting and fun. Keep up with the reading and you'll do well. Make sure you go to class lecture is important
Awesome class awesome teacher. Always there if you need help very personable and very fun to learn Indian History from. Class is easy if you do the work he offers study sessions and will prepare you for the tests a truely rewarding experience
a nice class and although the tests were a bit nerve-wracking, I would have no qualms about talking any other class with this guy teaching it. he definately rewards you for showing up and taking the tests especially at the end.
Really cool guy!!! Just go to class and you'll know everything for the tests. Take good notes for an easy A or B.
This class was great. Richard is funny and makes you want to go to class, even if you've had a hard day. He will go have beers with you, if you're over 21, and there's a field trip to Mexico, but that's optional. (There is a stop in Tecate though) This man LOVES wine, especially if you buy it 4 him.
I love Richard!!! he's the best!!!

He will say whatever he wants so be prepared to be offended at least once during the semester. The class went by fast. The quizes are hard but the tests are fairly easy if you study the lectures. Good class if you would rather be buddy-budddy with the professor.
His class is hard, no doubt about it, but if you do all the reading and study hard for the tests you can do well. Paper was easy and if he realized the final could only hurt your grade rather than help it he didn't make you take it.
this is my favorite professor at state : ) he makes the subject so interesting!
WE LOVE CARRICO!!! My friend and I are taking his 440 class this semester after taking 110 last year..learning about the Native American ways of life make you think differently about how we live today (and how much better they were about..everything)! Also attended Carrico's Christmas party, it rocked. He's a great guy and very well educated+funny!
CARRICO ROCKS everything about him. especially his christmas party 'winter solstice party' haha. he loves wine. and native americans. you get to read cool stories about whales and****. fun class
The class is somewhat hard, but very passable. Hard to get an A, but not a B. Go to his study sessions. They are helpful. Very interesting class. Must study for tests and do atleast most of the reading. He is a very helpful teacher.
In response to the last person, 440 isn't lower division, so that may explain your problems. The class is tough, lots of reading and the tests are difficult(1/2 from reading and 1/2 from lecture). Carrico is a brillant professor, in both Indian history and anything else he talks about. He's very accessible to the students and very fair.
Tests are NOT scantron. They are multiple choice, fill in AND at least one essay per test. There are also pop quizzes. He does NOT offer xtra credit - he should. I find his tests too difficult for a lower division class. He is what I would consider to be a "cool" instructor, but too much work for a lower-division class. Take someone else if you can
Dr. Carrico, is a fair and understanding teacher. His lectures seemed to go off topic at times but if you pay attention to the key points you will do good in the class. A lot of reading...I mean a lot. Readings from four different books and pop quizes for which you have to attend class or not receive credit, made the class a little on the hard side
Great teacher, alot to read but a very interesting class. He gives study guides for the 3 tests so you'll know everything that will be on them including the essay questions. A few pop quizes but they're not hard. He isn't boring and you will actually want to pay attention in this class!
Dude, Carrico rocks! Class isn't too bad, and he is just so interesting. I wanted to take his 440 class but he isn't teaching this semester!
I have his class this semester and I have to say he is a great instructor. The people and the history comes alive. Carrico is vibrant--I think of Indian Jones just a little.
This class is a great one to supplement a GE requirement. I'm not sure how, but Carrico knows a little something about everything. His classes are witty and he relates his subjects to things that happen (or are happening) in real life. I would strongly suggest taking this class. I knew nothing about American Indians, and they are mega interesting!
Professor Carrico is the reason I changed my major to Anthropology and Archaeology. His class is informative but he makes it interesting and funny. If you read and pay attention you've got an easy B+.You will never feel like you're wasting time going to his lectures!
Mr. Caricco is a great teacher! super interesting lectures, the books really aren't that bad especially because they're interesting. Attendance is mandatory but he is super understanding if you cant make it to class (just make sure you tell him). Soooo overall take this class! This class is really relevant to the rest of life's crazy-nesses.
He is a laid back teacher that really knows his material. The class was interesting, but you have to read a lot. A LOT!His tests are multiple choice but he always has a couple of trick questions on there and an essay question. I enjoyed the class but I thought that it was too much work trying to remember all of the material that he assigned.
Hes an awesome professor. I took his class this semester for GE but it turned out to be the one class this semester I actually enjoyed going to. He talks to you and not at you, and always incorporates other fun and interesting comments in the lectures.
One of my favorite professors...he's a funny guy and really interesting. His class is interesting and the tests are not bad if you study...I recommend this class.
Fun class! He's a great teacher, I went to class because he made me laugh and kept material valid and interesting. Stud guides for each test; use them, you should do fine. Essays for each test too, but the require minor memorization. Not a class for ppl who hate writing/reading. Good class for everyone else. :)
I thought this class was going to be an EASY A for a 100 level class. Turns out, this was one of my most challenging classes this semester. Class is MANDATORY otherwise you'll have no idea what to know, tests are really detailed and you never know exactly what he'll test you on. Really chill professor, but much harder than I thought.
My favorite teacher at SDSU sio far. He knows the material better than the book. Go to class and take notes on the lecture. Three exams that are based on the study guides he gives. You don't even have to take the final if you keep up in the class. I love carrico hers funny and keeps you interested. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
I'M OBSESSED with Carrico. He is a bomb professor. He is engaging in his lectures and makes his students laugh. Not your ordinary teacher. He is AMAZINGGGGGG
Carrico is potentially one of the best professors out there. He's incredibly clear, really funny, and his classes are totally worth going to. The dude's really intelligent and has some of the best stories around, and his actual in field experience gives the class a great feel. Seriously, this is absolutely the way to go.
BEST TEACHER EVER. honestly never even looked at the book dont bother getting it. if you go to the lectures and actually listen you will get an A. hes really funny and makes this class really interesting. extremely easy concept and fun! Id highly recommend taking this class. study guides are amazing and essays are easy.
EASY TO FOLLOW, WANTS TO SEE YOU SUCCESSEED, GREAT EXPLANTIONS, PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT HE TEACHES.
Carrico is bad ass! I really enjoyed his approach on teaching and his charisma. The lectures are fun and interesting. Just show up, take notes, and listen to the great things the Native people had going on for them before the white man ruined it all. I got a B without buying the books. PS Maybe you will get a special treat on the last day?
Awesome teacher. Gets you involved has great stories and really wants to see you pass the class. This is his world and he's very passionate about it. He knows his stuff and as far as i'm concerned he should be writing our books. I'll take another one of his classes anytime i can. Take the class and show up
Best College Professor I have ever known! Very funny jokes, and thrilling stories! you do need the books, attendance is not mandatory but you'll miss alot for the tests. if you do good you might not even have to take the final!
He's a really great professor! Don't listen to the others on here saying that they never used the books, because his tests have questions that he doesn't cover in class, but in the reading itself. That being said, just do the reading and take really good notes on the lectures, and you'll do fine.
Carrico is freakin sweet! His knowledge of the field is amazing, engaging lectures, and make sure you do the study guides. No essays either on the test. Just one really EASY paper required. Light reading required, attend ALL lectures if you can. Best professor I've had thus far at SDSU. Carrico for president!
Minus a million points for not bringing donuts when he promised. Overall pretty chill professor, don't procrastinate.
This is one of the best professors at SDSU :) Lectures are not mandatory, but if you dont go, you'll miss out on a lot. He gives study guides which you can find the answers for in the books. 2 exams 3 quizes and a paper!
His lectures are interesting and he has a great sense of humor however he is not very organized. He jumps from topic to topic and the exam questions are always meant to trick you. Many students had F's and many C's for the same reason. Follow the study guide and you will be fine
Be prepared to really work in this class. He has really interesting lectures but his tests are really specific questions-that are intended to trick you. Make sure to keep up with the readings, take notes in lectures, and if you have any questions, ask him-he will help! This is not an easy class.
To the two low comments: a course you got to work, it's college. you probably just slacked off. Carrico is the easiest professor ever. Just read and go to lecture. Nuff said.
This class seems easy because his lectures are entertaining..but he definately zones out on different topics and his tests are DETAILEd and MADE TO TRICK YOU he doesn't test your knowledge but how well you can take a test. HE IS NOT EASY. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Im a dedicated student and came out with a B. Just don't take him.
He is such an awesome teacher. I had him for Spring10, what he tells you is what he means. His tests are self explanitory and his lectures pertain to what is tested. You should read the text books, and make sure you don't get tricked on the true or false, but you get to rebuttle. He made the class interesting for sure.
Carrico is everything a teacher should be. He engages the class, makes his subject extremely interesting and extends himself to help his students. He also treats his students as grown-ups, leaving attendance up to you. I've had 3 of his classes and I would sign up for another in a minute, even just for fun. Also, no trick ?'s, very common sense ?s
Great class. Keep up with the reading! its very interesting!!!! tests are tricky....unless you take notes and keep track! however attendance is NOT mandatory. I learned a lot :)!
Knows his stuff! He makes class fun/interesting and is always cracking jokes so it's not that terrible to go to. You SHOULD attend class sometimes or you could just share/exchamge notes with friends but as long as you have the notes, do the readings and STUDYYY, then you will get an A like I did :)
I loved this class! Atteding class is not mandatory but he doesn't use blackboard, so if you miss class, you miss out on a whole chunck of the test/quiz. After only a few days, he made me want to learn more and want to go to class. I eventually declared my minor in AMIND because of this class. I will be taking 141 next semester :)
So far I've had him for AMIND140 and 141 and if you can't pass this class with a C or above, there is something wrong with you. EVERYTHING is straight-forward in his class and he is interesting to listen to. Pay attention and read the books (yes get them and read) and you will do well. Knows his stuff very well. This is how a teacher should teach.
Carrico is probably the best teacher at SDSU. I took him for 2 semesters (140 and 141) If you go to class and take notes you will do very well in the class. You have 4 quizzes, 2 tests, 1 paper. The tests are just extended versions of the quizzes. TAKE CARRICO! YOU WON'T REGRET IT
Really interesting class! Carrico is a really good at giving lectures and keeping even boring stuff interesting!General rule-if he writes it on the board, it will be on the test! Do the readings-they are on the tests! A lot of his lectures are NOT in the book so go to class. Plus, he's really nice.
my fav professor @ sdsu so far. he makes lectures extremely interesting. I was upset every time he didnt show up to class. Go to class do the readings and study guides and you will do fine. i got an A :)
Carrico is super funny, class was always entertaining. Watch out tho, because he tests right from the book and doesn't cover it in class. Two-three tests and a brief essay, better than any Political science class
I never read the book and ended up with a B in the class. Make sure to go to all the lectures. If u do u want really need the book. The prof. Overall is pretty chill and interesting to listen to. He might have extra credit, and if he does, do it!!! It won't hurt.
Great Professor! I highly recommend him. Extremely helpful. Truly cares for the success of his students. His teaching style/material keeps the class very interesting although attendance is NOT mandatory. However, you don't want to miss class because quizzes/exams are mostly based on lectures.
An amazing instructor. Attendance pays off -- How do I know? I received an A. One of the best professors on campus!
If you are not obsessed with Native American DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He doesnt take roll but you have to attend each class because his tests are about his lectures. If you miss class the only way to catch up is have a friend tell you what happened. i took for gen ed. stupid decision got a C- and i had a 4.0 last semster
Might seem tough at first since he doesn't use blackboard and almost all material comes from him talking during lecture. It's not nonsense though, i learned a lot and if you can get the concepts it'll be an easy pass if not an easy A. Recommended!
WAS AN EASY CLASS, BUT VERY DETAILED WITH THE NAMES OF INDIANS ON EXAMS. MAKE SURE YOU YOU ATTEND HIS CLASSES BECUZ HIS LECTURES ARE BASED ON HIS TESTS.HE DOES NOT TAKE ROLL BUT IF YOU MISS CLASS, YOU MISS OUT ON ALOT OF INFORMATION. I WENT TO EVERY CLASS BUT IT WAS A LITTLE DIFFICULT TRYING TO CATCH UP ON HIS LECTURES FROM SO MUCH INFO
Hate history and things of that sort, but this class interested me. The prof is your typical San Diegan (I would say). He gave 2 assignments. Fairly easy. Tests are pretty straight forward. Never read the book, went to all lectures got me a B.
Lectures can run on tangents, but are interesting and full of information. Tests and quizzes are based on the lectures and minimally on assigned reading (of which there is very little). He's also incredibly accommodating and affable; truly invested in the success of his students (but happy to make fun of those that deserve it).
Really cool and he gives a study guide out before quizzes and tests.
Favorite here at State! I hate history and Carrico's class was the best I took this semester! Go to lecture, read his book (not the other text) and email him for a study group before the exam, he'll tell you exactly what topics will be on the exams! Taught like a college course!
One of my favorite Professors!
Favorite class and teacher at SDSU. He makes the class/subject enjoyable and fairly easy. Never a pop quiz. Only a few homework assignments. He does put his opinion on some of the tests as a question, but he'll tell you about it before hand. Highly recommend taking this for general ed. It's two semesters but definitely worth it!
not a difficult class however have to memorize all the tribes which is tedious and useless later in life. The professor is extremely full of himself and often spends time in lecture talking about himself as if anyone cares, but judging by the reviews it seems like it doesnt bother anyone
Such an interesting class. No homework, one essay, and a couple exams and quizzes. Tests mostly from lectures, but only on the most basic principles of the material. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
2 papers, 1 midterm, 3 quizzes, non-cumul. final. Quizzes and exams can be tricky but do the reading and you'll do fine.Excellent lecturer, THE AUTHORITY on the material. And really overall a great person to learn life's wisdoms, he's more than just an educator. Yes, a ladies man, but he's harmless. And the dough nuts rock (does bring them in).
gives good in site to archaeology, and is very helpful when you ask for assistance
This guy is funny and has great lectures. I loved everything about the class except the tests were extremely difficult. He can also be a little disorganized, but it's not that big of deal.
Entertaining lecturer for sure, knows his stuff &is super opinionated. If you can get past his sometimes overbearing personality, then you'll enjoy the class. 70% of test material from his lectures, 30% from textbooks. Just a few assignments, one requiring you to visit SD museums, 3 quizzes, 2 tests. Tests are very detailed and kinda difficult
He is a great educator very wise and explains everything with great passion, you will not regret to take any of his classes
Professor Carricos class was Engaging and wonderful. Meeting every Wednesday was the literal highlight of my week. His lecture series would engage the students and help us understand the nature of the anthropological theories and methods. They would also help me further develop my own critical thought alongside what was being taught from the book A+
didn't really know what i was getting myself into when i signed up for the class but left loving every single minute of it, he knows the material very well and explains things in lecture in detail and even holds review sessions that are extremely helpful. utilize him and there is no reason you should not get an A, he is one of my favorites indeed.
Carrico is the man! He is the best professor i've had at SDSU. Really, really knows his stuff, extremely interesting to listen to and you will learn and gain so much. A few quizzes, midterm, EASY essay, and a final but go to the study sessions and he will tell you everything you need to know for the tests!! Take this class!!
A great teacher. Knows his stuff. He made a history class really interesting. There are 3 tests + a final + 2 short papers + 1 a bit longer paper. Make sure to attend his study groups and the class before a test, he tells you what's going to be on the test.
Loved Carrico. Super great person and teacher. HOWEVER, you MUST read the books he gives you in order to do well in his class. You cannot just attend class. You don't HAVE to attend class, but I strongly recommend you do cause sometimes he'll tell you whats on the test. 1 paper, 6-10 pages, not bad though. not an easy A, but just READ
Awesome teacher, very passionate. I wish he taught other AMIND classes so I could learn more from him! Very interesting topic. Tests and quizzes can be hard but go to lecture and do the readings and you can get an A. We had one project, but it was simple and interesting.
AMAZING professor!! He makes American Indian studys so interesting. As long as you go to class you can get atleast a B in the class because he covers most if the material. He is always willing to meet students for study groups before quizzes and exams. Take this class!! You will not regret it!!!! I took 140 and 141 and got A's
I absolutely loved his class! He is such an amazing teacher who really keeps things extremely interesting and you actually want to learn more about native American history! I highly recommend you take both of his classes for your GEs!! And he hilarious!
This professor is wonderful. He makes history come alive and is excited about it! He is also not afraid to share some of his opinions, which I think are super interesting. If you would like to learn what really happens in the world, take his class!
Carrico is a fantastic professor. He is very funny and actually makes the class interesting. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Carrico is a true expert in his field and he lives to share his knowledge with the next generation of Anthropologists or students of native culture. If you want to learn the TRUE history of native Americans and what happened to them take HIS class. Also a really nice, fair, funny and overall great guy. Brings in VERY interesting guest speakers too.
Very Awesome, it is worth to attend. One of the most interesting class in GE's. No doubt he's the best instructor ever. "TAKE HIM"!
This guy is great. you don't have to attend but you should because carrico is freaking hysterical and the class is actually interesting.
Awesome professor, every class is exciting to attend. He tells the history of Native Americans as detailed and entertaining as possible. His tests are hard, they take a lot from the books and stuff he doesn't always go over in class. But for the most part he goes over most of the tests, also does study groups if you ask. Phenomenal professor.
so i hate history and always have been bad at it. carrico is such a cool teacher. he's very understanding, just don't be an idiot. come to class and pay attention. he says you need to read the textbook, but if you just actively listen, take good notes, and read about the key topics, you'll be fine. this class was actually interesting because of him
Great down to earth guy to listen too. You wont regret the true stories he shares about history. He chose not to do any papers this time, but did add a pop quiz. Fair in grading, read the book, listen to his entertaining lectures and your good.
Mr. Carrico is very passionate about his field of interest. He knows the subject matter and is not boring. He's likable, but very arrogant and spends a lot of lecture time on unrelated subject matter. If you want an easy A or B this is the class. If you want a lecturer who values education and really teaching, then steer clear.
Maybe its because I'm facinated with native american studies but this class is awesome. He is so knoleddgable and has funny stories. He rides a motorcycle and owns a vineyard...so cool! He lectures and gives fun assignments. He tells you exactly what is on the test. I've already graduated and this was my favorite class at SDSU.
Pros: Passionate, interesting class, fast response time, learned a lot! attendance not mandatory, books were cheap Cons: Tests and quizzes were difficult at first. I suggest flash cards! He doesn't use blackboard so find someone to study with
I had him once a week& he is truly a great professor. Never fell asleep and I was interested in the topic. He's funny and makes it enjoyable. BUT you have to go to class! (But he's a great teacher so it shouldn't be a chore) All his test questions are from lecture, literally. -Buy the books (used for 141 too) -3 quizzes.1 midterm.1final.1hw
He was a very funny professor... or tried to be at least. He lectures aren't too boring, but they are essential to go to in order to get a good grade. If you have someone who's in your same class, however, that will give you the notes and help you out, you can still pass. He's also very clear about how he grades. I'm taking the next class as well.
This class was interesting a bit but overall boring and long. If you skip class you'll be fine just read the book, but boring book. Really helpful just ask. 4 quizzes, 2 tests, one assignment. Pretty easy if you can memorize a lot of names, wars, maps. If you go to lecture and study you'll do fine. Doesn't use BB & takes forever to grade assignment
Carrico is an awesome professor! He's really passionate about the subject and speaks fluent sarcasm. He makes the 2 hour lecture less dreadful than it's made out to be and if you go to his office hours he'll answer questions right then and there. Tests and quizzes are mostly multiple choice and true or false, a few fill-in-the-blanks. Read the book
Carrico is an awesome professor who is VERY passionate about Native Americans and their historyrights. He makes the lectures easy to pay attention to and interesting because of his humor. There are 3 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, and 1 pop quiz. There is no extra credit offered and your grade depends on how well you do on the quizzes and texts.
The class is easy if you take (at most) an hour out of your week to read the chapters. The class requires two textbooks for a total of $50 or so. Go to class if you want to pass, his lectures are 23 of the test material. No homework. If you have an A in the class by finals week, you may not have to take it. Also, he's funny as hell.
Spends most of his lectures complaining about how dumb younger generations are, and showing off how clever and macho he is. Wastes a lot of time telling pointless stories. Tests are very poorly written, questions are stated intentionally vague and misleading. Inconsistently grades-I would be right on one test, wrong on the next with the same answer
Very easy course with a really funny guy. His exams are a combination of fill in the blank and multiple choice. Memorize everyones names along with what they did and where they're from and you'll do fine
The midterm is very similar to the first 2 quizzes and the final is the same as the last 2 quizzes. Go to class, and pay attention. The lectures are a little sporatic, but if you understand where everything, you're solid. I never read and got an A. Dont have to take the final if you have a 90+%. No -'s in grades unless he rounds you up.
Richard is a really nice and funny guy, he is always cracking jokes, but that doesn't mean his course is necessarily easy. His tests are fill-in and multiple choice and they're not questions you can guess on. You have to know your stuff so pay attention. Apparently if you go to office hours he will help you a lot.
He has a sarcastic sense of humor and a little dark but it's laughable. It's purely lecture but reading helps answer about 20% of quiz and test questions. He gives you a study guide and covers most of it in his lectures. He lectures in a story-like manner so you're less likely to forget about the material. He's chill and always end classes early!
Carrico is dumb funny, always making jokes. His tests & quizzes are a mix of multiple choice & fill in. Go to his lectures, sometimes he'll give you answers to the test questions. You need to really pay attention to what he says & reading the books help. Know the information & the study guides he gives out really helps. No homework whatsoever.
Professor Carrico is one of the best professors, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to take his class and this subject especially. Be prepared to read and make sure you go to his office hours and set up group study before tests he will come and go over the test material. He knows his material, is a great lecturer, class goes by fast.
Carrico is AWESOME. He makes the class interesting and gives clear lectures. He does show a lot of videos and powerpoints so attendance is a must, but its totally worth it! I enjoyed it so much, I'm minoring in this area now!
Not an easy class must work for your grade. You need to read and form study groups. Google Doc's are a must. He is really picky on test and quizzes, for example in one of hs exam questions, everyone got the answer wrong for writing Grant instead of U.S Grant. Really Carrico? He always rants on about him having friends in powerful places.
Carrico is my favorite lecture professor I have ever taken. He is just an interesting guy that is interesting to listen to. He doesn't take attendance, but the class after a after test/quiz he would give points to people who picked up their papers and in class he gives test questions verbatim and goes over exactly what you need to know.
Carrico is a great, interesting lecturer; one of my favorites. He does tend to get off topic, but he's always able to give you the information that you need. My biggest problem would be tests. Often the questions are frustratingly specific or arbitrary, and you should expect T/F questions that hinge on semantics.
Carrico is an amazing lecturer. He is one of the professor I actually learned something from. Never got bored in class because he made lectures entertaining. To me, the tests were fairly easy! I would take his class again.
3 Quizzes, 1 possible pop-quiz, 2 Exams, Final is non-cumulative. He is awesome! Attendance not mandatory but definitely beneficial for all the needed info for Qs/Es. Humor can seem offensive to some, but he's funny. Clear study guides. Check your grades when handed back b/c TAs make mistakes. If you had an A after the last quiz, no final needed!
Awesome, funny, helpful. Just go to class and you'll be good. Extra credit given on random days for attendance. If you had an A at the end, no final. Great study guides, all you need to know are basic concepts that tie the topics to AMIND issues. Wouldn't say that you need to read everything, whatever he doesn't cover in class, just use an index.
Very easy class. No homework, just quizzes and exams. Mostly true/false and fill in the blank. Just go to class, take notes and you won't need the textbook. He's really funny and very engaging even to someone who has no interest in the subject.
Carricos class is definitely one you need to work for. Lectures are a must if you want to pass the class, as thats where you get most of the information. He is hilarious, you just have to warm up to his sense of humor. He really knows his information so just pay attention and study a lot!!
Your class grade is based solely off of three quizzes (one of them is a pop quiz) and two tests (midterm and final). STUDY AND DO THE READING. Literally the study guide will be the test. He is a great and funny professor who just wants you to know more about American Indians so just listen and you'll do well.
Boring class. You need to go to class because lectures will deff be on the tests. You will have readings from three books and yes you need to get the books. Theres 2 quizes one pop quiz a midterm and a final. However if your lucky then you may not have to take the final. There is also a paper that you may not have to do. Overall ok class.
One of the coolest professors I've ever had. His tests are difficult if you don't go to the class, but he makes it impossible to fail. Don't brush off the pop quiz he will give it. Do the study guide, and he will meet in the library for study sessions with a group of students. Overall cares about you passing and makes the topic interesting.
Carrico is sometimes unprofessional and rude, but he's also a hilarious guy. You NEED the books AND the lectures. LOTS of TRICK QUESTIONS on exams. First few weeks, pop quiz -- STUDY. He does NOT have a Blackboard, so if you need a study guide or help from classmates, you'd better do it in class. Interesting, funny class, wouldn't retake.
Carrico is a great professor one of my favorite at state! Homework are readings and the tests are based on lectures/ readings. You do have to buy some books but it's worth it trust me. Idk how but he makes the lectures so interesting. Class with him is awesome super he's smart, funny and charismatic. He ends class early pretty often too wassup.
Probably the funniest professors I've ever had in college. The class has a fair bit of reading from his book and a couple others, he does write some tricky questions on his quizzes and tests. There also may be a pop quiz early in the semester. I enjoyed all of his lectures and did ok in the class. Also an insightful class to take.
One of the best Profs at SDSU. The course subject was really interesting and fun. Requires 3 books for this class. He is a funny guy.
He is by far my favorite professor at state. He is hilarious which makes lectures very entertaining and interesting . His class is based on lecture and some outside reading. Definitely do not miss any lectures and/or skip readings or you won't do so well on quizzes/tests. I highly recommend taking his class. I loved it.
Either attend lectures or get notes from someone in order to know what half of the 25 question quizzes and 50 question exams consist of. 2nd half is on whichever pages of whatever book he assigns. Not a hard class whatsoever, especially since his lectures are pretty cool. Only con is that he doesnt send out an email when he decides not to show up..
One of the best professors at SDSU. Grade is composed of a few quizzes, a midterm, and a final but listen to him when he says to study. I failed the pop quiz and spent the rest of the semester trying to recover and did so by studying constantly and keeping up with the reading. He's a great lecturer and very funny.
Quality guy. Only grades off a few quizzes and tests. He gives a pop quiz in the beginning which I bombed and had a D in. got it back up to an A by the final, and didn't have to take it. Just take good notes, study them and make sure to DO the readings he posts and you'll get an A
I took 140 as well (2015), he was a lot funnier then and wasn't as much of an ass as he is now. He tries really hard to look badass and trolls his students so much. I went to every lecture and read, yet the things he says don't worry about for the quiz/exam, he puts on there to mess with you. If you have questions, prepare to get nowhere
Go to class and take good notes and always do the reading he assigns. Read the test questions very carefully because often times he doesn't word them well or wants to trick you. There's 1 pop quiz and he gives an optional writing assignment if you want to get your grade up.
Had Carrico for 140 and 141. I enjoyed going to his class because I didn't feel like I was in a lecture. He stands in front of the class and tells stories! I have a new grown awareness and respect for the native american culture. Carrico is easy to reach outside of class. Make Google docs with classmates and set up meetings for test prep with him.
Go to class take lots of notes, go to his office before exams and ask questions, so the homework. Read and mostly pay attention in class. He is a good person and genuinly cares about his students. You get what you put into it
His lectures were not only interesting but I learned a lot. His quizzes and midterms are not hard but can be tricky. He purposely tries to trick you but if you read the question carefully and actually payed attention and took good notes you should do fine. FYI his humor is not for sensitive people butter mere serve
Carrico is the man. Grade consists of 3 normal quizzes, 1 popquiz, a midterm, and the final. I'd recommend going to class as frequently as possible cus the quizzes revolve mostly around in-class material. Extremely funny, tells lectures like stories, my favorite class I've taken at state by far. Quizzes are tricky, make sure to take class w friends
The entire course grade is based off of a few tests and quizzes so there's no homework but it's exceptionally hard to get an A or even a B in this class. If you skip the class you will not pass, he does not post anything online including grades. However, his lectures are extremely interesting and I learned a lot, I just didn't get a good grade.
It took me a bit to figure out the trick to doing well in his class (hints the C). Go to class (1pop quiz and lecture info on tests). Do the readings, and actually read them, even if it takes you forever. Study off the quizzes, he grades them really quickly and his tests were literal repeats of the past ones. He's old fashioned - no blackboard.
I was really hesitant to take this class because I thought it'd be painfully boring - but it's the exact opposite! Carrico is so funny and I truly enjoyed going to class and listening to his lectures. Just read and actually go to class and you'll be fine
I really enjoyed his lectures! However, even if you learn in class and study, the material on the quizzes and exams are not the content you study for. He tricks you and makes bad questions that are worded poorly. Might not get a good grade, but his lectures are worth it. Good guy!
i loved his class. It's pretty simple, if you show up and actually listen you'll get a good grade. Not a super easy class, but a very interesting one. He is a kind and caring professor though he may seem a bit callous, thats his funny sense of humor. Take this class if you want to LEARN about an interesting subject!
I really enjoyed the lectures of his class. However, it's really hard to get an A for this GE class. The quizzes have very specific questions. I'm upset because he decided to change the course towards the end of the semester which was really upsetting. He said attendance wouldn't count then 1 day dropped me by 2% b/c he changed the grading.
Took him for 140 and 141 and got a better understanding of what the natives had to go through. 3 quizzes and 2 exams. If you get an A you don't have to take the final. Doesn't use blackboard. He tries to trick you by making the entire question correct but one word. Get the books cause he won't go over everything in class. He posts nothing!
A great professor. This class was not an easy A. I had to really read, study, and ask questions to do well. With that said, the midterm and final were based on the prior quiz, same questions. So as long as you know the correct quiz answers, you will get an A on the midterm and final. Really great class if you pay attention and go to office hours.
Attendance isn't exactly mandatory but it's definitely a good idea to go. He'll tell you what you need to know for the quizzes and tests. Some questions can be very tricky because he'll change one word that could make the statement false. Not an easy A, so you definitely have to work for it. He's a great professor though and a pretty funny guy.
Professor Carrico is an amazing lecturer! I never skipped one class this semester because I was actually always excited to go and hear his lectures. He doesn't post powerpoints so you need to go to class to get all the notes. The tests can be fairly challenging but if you put in the work you'll get an A.
Mr. Carrico is incredibly caring and he is so passionate. I was not interested in this topic at first and now I cannot stop talking about it. So funny. Great story teller. Attendance is not mandatory but he will give points here and there for attending. lectures and readings are different info. this class and teacher will change your life. Take it!
Amazing teacher!! My favorite class by far. He really knows his stuff and is super chill. Just lectures and ends class early often. But you're only graded based on quizzes and exams which are pretty easy if you know the stuff but can be tricky. Lots of reading
Carrico is a pretty good professor but his class is hard to do well in. There are 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final. There's no homework besides reading so if you do bad on the tests there's nothing to cushion your grade. The tests were multiple choice, T/F, or fill in the blanks but they were hard because the questions were SUPER specific.
Great teacher! This class is so interesting and he is an engaging lecturer. Your grade is only made up of 2 quizzes, a midterm, and a final so it's important to do well on them. Class isn't mandatory but he will randomly give out extra points for being there. As long as you read and/or attend class you will do well. Totally recommend this class.
Carrico is super chill. His lectures are extremely informative yet entertaining. He tells hella life stories which helps keep me paying attention. I skipped almost every class this semester and just studied a quizlet that someone made and it got me A's and B's. Honestly throw in like 30% effort and it's an easy A. Take this class.
I really enjoyed his class, Carrico is very straight forward and tries to make the content interesting. Graded on 2 quizzes, a midterm and a final. The readings aren't as important as his lectures, and he doesn't take attendance (but did give out credit on certain days for being there). If you show up, and do the readings you'll have no problem
Most of what is on exams are lecture-based. You have to read the book too. His lectures are fun.
I highly recommend taking this class with Carrico! His lectures are usually shorter and he tells you what you need to know for the 2 quizzes/midterm/final. The study guides are straight forward and I would say take good notes of what he says. If you have an A before the final he allows you to not take it so make that your end goal.
The rates on here are misleading. Carrico is fine but his class material is disorganized and his lectures are all over the place. My friends and I would make study guides that were nearly 15 pages long for his 20 question quizzes. When he handed our quizzes/tests back many things were graded inaccurately and had to be re-graded more than once.
Hes helpful and available after class.
Professor Carrico is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is very clear as to what you can expect on every exam and gives great study guides. He is hilarious and his lectures are never boring. He's very passionate about Native spirituality & overall an amazing professor. The only way to fail his class is by not reading or doing the basics.
Professor Carrico is hilarious, upfront, and a tough grader. He does everything old school. He will not use any online websites except his own. So all your grades are received in class. He makes fun of anything and everything but in a jokingly way (by far my favorite part). However, he does care about your ability to understand the material ALOT.
Carrico is funny and entertaining to listen to, but his lectures consist of a few words written on the whiteboard and an hour of talking, so it can be difficult to follow the points he's making. However, he gives study guides that make it very clear what will be on quizzes and exams, so it's easy to do well if you just study a little.
Carrico is hilarious and is a great storyteller. If you're from San Diego or plan to stay here, you should take this class so you can learn some of the history behind this county. Doesn't use blackboard, everything is graded by hand/no scantrons. If you have an A in the class after the last quiz, you don't have to take the final!
Carrico is a good but old fashioned professor, meaning he does NOT use Blackboard so you HAVE to come to class as lectures are not recorded and there are no PowerPoint slides posted. Study guides for quizzes and tests are detailed, giving you a good idea of what you will be tested on. Overall, an easy class if you are willing to study!
GREAT PROFESSOR, I WOULD TAKE AGAIN 10 TIMES OVER. I am a bio major so my life sucks, but this class was literally FROM GOD. Straight up blessin'
AMAZING MAN! I would take this class every semester if I could and I HATE history. Richard is hilarious and gives the best lectures I've ever heard. Definitely need to go to class because that is what all of his tests are made of. There are 2 tests and 2 quizzes total in this course so pretty weight heavy but really easy. This man deserves an award
The class was not really hard he gives a clear study guide before the quizzes and final. The only assignment for this class is a 4 page paper that has a really clear prompt and rubric. If you study the guides he provides and come to class, you'll pass.
Exams are all open-ended questions and tricky T/F. He intentionally makes the tricky by either saying the wrong year or location. His lectures are very funny and entertaining but I would not consider this class an easy A, maybe an easy B- if you're okay with that. I took it CR/NC and was fine. My advice would be to record his lectures it helped me.
Finished with a B but I honestly didnt study too much. If you go to class and take notes and read the assigned books, its a pretty easy class. Has a harsh sense of humor in the best way possible. If you have an A before the final you dont have to take it.
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. He is incredibly kind and super funny. You have to go to lectures as he does random attendance and likes to give pop quizzes on rainy days etc. Very passionate and made me passionate. Honest and straightforward but never mean. I wish he taught more classes.
TAKE THIS CLASS. I came in expecting the normal, boring, useless history class, but NO. Carrico cares so intensely about the topic that it makes every lecture worth listening to. It honestly opened my eyes to something I was barely aware of, and for that I found it very valuable. He is also a hilarious man who makes lectures more enjoyable.
Great lectures, attendance not mandatory but you need those notes for the tests. I took 140 before this and i loved both classes. You learn a lot and he gives study guides before tests with the terms etc. you need to study. He really tries to trick you with his questions, but he doesn't keep that a secret. We had a pop quiz this year so look out
He's an amazing professor truly, but this class is definitely not an easy A. As others have pointed out, he does use tricky wording on his tests and questions can be confusing so make sure to not rush through. I enjoy his lectures because he relates them to modern circumstances and this makes learning history so much easier.
Carrico is one of the best professors I had at SDSU but it's one of the hardest ge's. You can't skip class, especially because he had a random pop quiz at the end of the semester. If you go to his office hours, he is very nice and understanding. Buy the books because you'll actually need to study for this class. This was an eye-opening class.
Carrico is a hilarious guy and makes lectures fun, hes also super passionate about what he talks about. not your usual boring history class and is great to take to complete GE's. The test are pretty difficult and its hard to maintain a decent grade. If you don't read the books forget about getting an A so BUY THEM!!
He is so entertaining when giving his lectures it actually makes you pay attention. Class goes by super quick and although I didn't do any of the required readings, I went to class every day and took copious lecture notes and managed to do pretty well.
I'm not going to lie, you have to work for the grade in this class. If you don't read, and don't study you will fail this class. His quizzes are tough, and he tries to trick you on the questions. But, with all that said, he is a hilarious professor and the way his lectures are given makes the class entertaining and interesting. Oh and Pop quizzes.
Professor Carrico is such an interesting person - reason enough to take this class. This guy can get anyone interested in history (side note: never once throughout the semester did he hold us for the full time - always got out of class early). GO TO CLASS! Taking notes and paying attention will get you a passing grade, read on your own for an A.
i found it super hard to memorize everything and the way he teach is that he will give you a lecture and you just take as much notes as you can. So you must listen closely and carefully in class. And the tests can vary from lecture to a photo caption in the book. I think therere like 9 people in my class got A and my class is 100 people or more.
Dude is a straight up d i c k. Changed the final Date last minute and didnt care that many students didnt know. Not to mention this was all during the coronavirus pandemic.
Carrico is one of the best professors I have had. His lectures are hilarious and he makes fun of everything, but he is fair to everyone. If he gets to serious topics he lets us know ahead of time, he never wants to offend anyone. He truly cares about his students. Even though it is not mandatory, go to every class. Read the books and good notes.
You can tell he is very passionate about this subject. However, I was not a huge fan of some of the things he joked about, and his response to covid 19 was quite frustrating. We went from 2 lectures a week to 4 20 minute videos, so I felt like I didn't get as much out of the class as I would have if he had done zoom lectures.
I'm going to be honest with y'all. I failed his class twice. Here are the reasons: I never read the chapters until THE DAY BEFORE THE EXAMS. His lectures are cool, but most of what he will test you on will come from the readings. There is not much classwork. The guy is funny and easy to talk to. Take Professor Carrico if you can AND READ.
Take this class. His lectures are super interesting & his study guides are helpful. No homework. Quizzes are every other week, there's a midterm, & a final. The readings are interesting and make sure to attend lectures because you'll need to know the information. Uses lockdown browser. He is a great professor! Great class if you have busy schedule.
Never take this in person. You have to read the textbook uses very specific questions from textbook in tests and pop quizzes. Fell asleep in this lecture 90% of the time
I feel that having his lectures in-person would have been so much better because his online lectures would usually make the most of my class drowsy towards the end. He switched up on us halfway through the semester, first saying that he was ok with open-book quizzes then later told us to use lockdown browsers. Not the best prof for zoom classes.
Great Prof! I learned so much! Lectures are ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY!!! He will just tell history like a story, so fun, but no PowerPoints, just talking. I thought the tests were hard but not impossible. If you are willing to put in some effort, take his class, I was very inspired.
Beware that he isnt very tech savvy and expect a few mistakes. Very lecture/reading heavy. Biweekly quizzes, midterm, final. Doesnt use a powerpoint for notes, but instead tells stories. This made it difficult for me to stay organized, but everyones different. It wasnt that big a deal, plus hes open to questions and extra help if you need!
Professor Carrico is a very sweet guy. His lectures are really long and detailed. He sometimes includes "trick" questions on exams so read the questions carefully. He provides study guides with info you should know. The only things in the grade book are a few quizzes, the midterm/final, and a VERY short essay
Amazing teacher and very genuine. Made lectures interesting to listen to. Not a lot of homework, but you should read the page #s he assigns in time for tests. Made me more interested in AMIND history. Beware for trick Qs on quizzes. Posted Zoom link for lectures after every class for online. Definitely should take class for Carrico and content :)
richard is so down to earth, a great guy. his class is 90% lectures without powerpoints but i never found it hard to stay focused because his lectures are pretty interesting. he says a lot of outta pocket stuff that makes it fun. tests are kinda tricky but as long as you study youll pass.
Really cool guy very funny
I HIGHLY recommend Carrico. Grades are basically only based on exams, but if you attend lectures, read the textbook, and study your notes you will pass - beware for trick Q's on exams. Lectures are necessary for content but I really enjoyed them - Carrico is very smart, super entertaining, and a really good lecturer. By far my favorite prof!
I took this class because the online one was filled and his reviews didn't seem that bad. he says super out-of-pocket stuff (most of it offensive) and super boring, despite what the other reviews say. attendance isn't mandatory, but he randomly took attendance twice this year and it took 13% off everyone's final grade if they weren't there.
Very enjoyable lectures. You should go to class if you want to get a good grade but I honestly look forward to his lectures, he tells them more like stories rather than following notes and keeps it interesting. No homework, so you need to do good on the tests, but he gives extra credit based on who collects their tests in class after they're graded
if you dont show up to his classes you probably wont pass the quizzes- they are difficult if you dont know what you are doing but theyre super easy if u took good notes. Carrico is a super nice guy and his lectures are extremely entertaining. Take this class if u dont want a boring history class!
I just had my last class with him, and all I have to say is; TAKE HIM NO MATTER WHAT. I mean wow, he is just an amazing person who is so nice and caring. You know he is a good professor when you remember everything from the lectures. His classes are interesting and funny. I will miss him a lot, this is the best professor at state NO DOUBT. TAKE HIM
carrico is alright. hes pretty funny but not the best lecturer. there is no homework, the whole grade is compromised of 4 quizzes, a midterm & the final. if you go to class, take good notes & read his book you should be fine.
This man is an absolute goat. All you have to do is show up to class and take somewhat decent notes. The study guides are everything on the quiz and he gives you an extra ten points just to show up to the class after the quiz. Overall he is a really funny laid back professor. I should also add that there is no homework.
I love this man. If you get an A in the class you don't have to take the final but wait for confirmation. Lectures are interesting and textbook isn't necessary but helpful. I would take this class a hundred times over. The most interesting and enjoyable lectures I have ever had. If you pay attention in class, you'll pass.
Professor Carrico is amazing. You do need to attend to all of his lectures but they're worth it because they're entertaining and educational. His tests are very fair with the questions being literally pulled out of the lecture. And he always provides you with a study guide. Be ready to read a few chapters (20 pages on average).
Very engaging lectures where you hear tell his passion/expertise. Attendance is not mandatory but he will give extra credit during random lectures where you get a 10/10 if you go but a 0/10 if you dont so it screws you. Loved his class never wanted to miss his lectures
Professor Carrico is truly hilarious. He knows A TON about Native American history and has lots and lots of stories. You will never be bored in his class, despite the fact that it's essentially all lectures. The only thing that goes in the grade book is the quizzes and tests so you have to study but the curriculum is pretty straight forward.
Professor Carrico is truly hilarious! His lectures are so entertaining and you can truly see he is passionate about Native American history. Very enjoyable class as long as you show up and take good notes to study from, you should be good. The only thing for grades in this class is quizzes/tests so study up!
if you absolutely LOVE school and LOVE native american history, this class is for you. i dont know why everyine here loves him so much. he lectures every single day and cant stop talking about himself and his book. his extra creedit is random days he decides to take attendance and is just an assignment, not extra credit. take any other teacher.
Funniest professor ever. Makes the material fun and interesting. Grades r composed of quizes and exams only. Based on lectures and readings. Show up 2 class or have notes sent 2 u. People only mad in reviews cause they mad about their grade (not the professors fault they didn't study). Awesome funny professor, study for quiz and get an A or B.
PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS! Best professor I've ever had hands down. I literally made a RMP account just to give this man the stellar review he deserves. I usually hate history classes but Carrico's lectures are actually entertaining. He incorporates crazy stories from his life and hilarious hypotheticals. Show up and pay attention and you'll be fine.
Hes a great guy and sometimes can be funny. But his concept of the class is 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Offers no form of redemption other than maybe 10 points of extra credit randomly through the semester which literally did nothing. If you mess up on a test, its extremely hard to catch up. Some questions on exams were odd.
Professor Carrico is extremely funny and passionate. You must attend every class and read the book. It's not hard, at all. If you do these things you'll pass. I'm taking him again for AMIND-141.
Probably my favorite professor so far. The only assignments which go into the grade book are his exams. They are pretty simple as long as you read and pay attention to the lectures. His study guides are also super helpful. He's funny and entertaining, and you should go to class because he randomly awards extra points to those who do.
Took both 140 and 141. His online class was really easy, it probably would have been more challenging in person. Carrico's heart is in the right place, but he has some antiquated terms (still uses the term "Indian") but I learned a lot in his class! He is really funny and can be entertaining. He is not helpful outside of class or tech savvy though.
Carrico is really an awesome guy with his heart in the right place. I don't know if I'd say he's great at playing the role of a professor, but he makes up for it otherwise. He's fun, funny and really cares and is educated about what he's teaching. However, his exams can be a little tricky. Overall, an easy and lighthearted GE and professor.
Loved this class. Super easy and he has really interesting lectures and is really funny. You should take notes because he hints at what will be on the quizzes, and offered extra credit once which helped my grade.
The lectures were interesting because Carrico is super funny. He has a lot of cool stories. Theres not any homework so theres not that much work required -- however your entire grade is based on 4 quizzes, the midterm, and the final, and the tests are hard.
Mr.Carrico loves trick questions for some reason. Your grade is purely determined by 3 quizzes and 2 exams. He doesn't post the audio of his lectures (only slides). His lectures are at least funny and interesting, but the overall format of his class was definitely not the best.
As long as you go to lecture(they aren't recorded) and pay attention, you can pass. Be aware there are trick questions. There are only 6 assignments and they are all quizzes or exams, so don't fall behind and they are given during lecture period. Try to maintain an A before the final, and you'll keep it. All the exams are non-cumulative.
Carrico was good at lecturing and it is clear the passion this man has. There is no homework, and your whole grade relies on exams. He loves trick questions and it is difficult during exams. He does not record lectures but posts his slides despite them carrying very little information. I had COVID during this semester and recieved no help from him.
One of the most fun classes I've taken at SDSU (AMIND470) Professor Carrico is just a very interesting guy, has good lectures, and is overall funny and entertaining. Highly respected in his field as well. 100% recommend.
a king.
He was so funny and engaging in his lectures. Your grade will depend on the quizzes because there isn't other homework besides the readings. It is a challenging class and you definitely have to study, but attendance isn't mandatory, but going helps a lot. He also has study guides for every exam. He also works with his students and is very helpful.
Best personality and funniest professor I've ever had. But if you're not a good test taker such as me you may not want to take this class because your entire grade is based on like 5 tests. They're easy tests because of the study guide but hard to get a perfect grade because of the trick questions he likes to throw in. Most interesting discussions!
The class was interesting but 100% of your grade revolves around only a few quizzes, the midterm, and the final. As someone who struggles with memorization this was really frustrating and there was literally nothing else I could do for my grade. He is a funny professor but I'm not sure I'd take the class again due to its structure.
As he said himself, if you get offended easily, you won't like this class. He hits all sides of any argument, so sometimes you'll laugh, other times it'll be uncomfortable. All this aside, Carrico is caring and is very passionate about the subject matter. The grade is solely based off four quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Fun class overall.
Carrico was my WORST teacher at SDSU. Your whole grade relies on 4 quizzes and 2 exams. He makes very difficult trick questions. His slides have little information on them and mostly just talks to get information out. The format of his class is a mess. Offers no extra credit. He gets very off-topic with his lectures and wastes time. Don't take him.
The entire class and your grade comes down to 4 quizzes and 2 tests and MAYBE a couple of small assignments. the way he lectures makes the information very easy to understand and retain. Now if you miss class you can stuggle a bit as most of his lectures are him talking and not visuals and that probably is the biggest critique I have for him.
Carrico is an awesome professor with engaging lectures. Grading for the class is easy to understand because there are only about 6 quizzes/midterms for the semester. Be sure to study for the tests because that is all your grade depends on. Go to every class, he talks in his lectures about everything on the tests.
No homework just lectures. Funny professor. Graded only on quizzes, midterm, and final. Tried setting up a study group with Prof. and didn't show or contact us. I'm bad at just memorizing information, hence the C, otherwise, the class really isn't hard.
Only class I actually showed up to
Carrico was a great professor and made learning fun. Told lots of jokes. There's no homework but your whole grade depends on quizzes and exams. they're not so bad because whatever he puts on the study guides will be on the tests. Beware of trick-questions. If you have an A or a high B+ he will allow you to skip the final. Overall chill professor.
Carrico overall was an entertaining guy. His lectures were very informative / engaging as he would usually have a personal story to go along with what he was teaching. Ur grade depends on tests and quizzes which aren't very hard they just heavily rely on memorizing the material. He isn't very tech savvy but I would recommend taking for a fun class.
Its easier to pay attention and do better in this class because its actually entertaining
Honestly a good teacher, my main problem in his class was he doesn't really give homework, which means its a test based class. Personally, this was very difficult for me, however, he does teach well. He is a very cool professor. Can get EC for showing up to classes, sometimes. If you cant do a test based class, then NOT RECOMMENDED
This dude is a once in a lifetime teacher. Take him while you can. Its rare that teachers and people in general like him still exist today. He says what he believes, not what he feels he is allowed to say. His lectures are wildly funny and engaging while still remaining fascinating and extremely insightful. Wish this dude was my grandpa.
Grade basically based on 4 quizzes and 2 tests (Midterm and final). If you don't attend lectures it will show in your grade. I attend every lecture and still have a hard time on the quizzes and tests.
My favorite professor this semester! Class is never boring and he always makes his lectures super engaging. The class is based off of 2 tests and 3 other quizzes but all were super easy. If you attend the lectures and take notes you will be fine. I definitely recommend taking his course!
Favorite professor this semester, 100% recommend going to every lecture if you want a good grade! Plus, he's pretty entertaining giving me more of a reason to show up. Test heavy! so take notes and review them to pass. Exams are pretty straight forward, if you showed up and studied decently, you'll be fine.
Carrico was goated! Tests are a little meticulous, but everything you need to know is in the study guide; it's mostly lecture-heavy, but has some stuff from his book. He was funny and took jabs at everyone.
AMIND 141 was an amazing class, probably one of my favorite classes I've taken during college so far. Carrico is the best professor I've ever had. He tells his lectures almost as if he's telling a story, which keeps students engaged and interested in the topic. Heavy emphasis on Native perspectives, cultures, and living. Loved this class.
He's an amazing professor, he makes the lecture so informative and entertaining. He provided study guides for all his tests and the study guides were very helpful. Just attend the lecture, take notes and study through the study guides and you'll do good.
A professor who clearly knows what he's talking about. Grade based off of quizzes and tests, with one or two opportunities to get a few extra points. A bit controversial with some opinions, but he's old and has had some INSANE experiences in his life (almost shot more than once) so it's hard to criticize him for it. Overall a nice professor!
your entire grade is based on quizzes and tests, which are very hard. Lecture heavy. if you dont go to class you will do so bad.
I loved Carrico, he's amazing. Study hard for the quizzes (4x) and exams (2x). Turn in the 3 assignments on time (very easy and straightforward assignments). On one of the last days he brought us donuts, he's very laid back and a great lecturer. So many interesting stories.
I would HIGHLY recommend taking Carrico. Although you have to attend all of his classes, his lectures are entertaining and informative. He's kind and reasonable and will meet with you outside of class to study for quizzes and exams. Set up study sessions with him before each quiz and you won't ever have to read the textbooks.
Carrico is amazing. Had him for two semesters my freshman year and he was an enjoyable class. He likes to tell his lectures very thoroughly and makes funny remarks or tells some stories that end in laughs along the way. He is easy to approach and talk to in person and he makes sure you get exactly what you need.
A very intimidating but accommodating teacher. Lectures are not mandatory but it is essential to go. Makes the lectures interesting and is super passionate about the topic. He helps students outside of class through study sessions where you can ask him answers from the study guide. Helpful to read the book but necessary if you pay attention.
Professor Carrico is a fun lecturer, but I wasn't able to fully understand the material. He can get off topic to entertain more than educate. Overall he is a really fun professor to have.
One of my favorite professors. Highly recommended taking. Great use of class time and very useful lectures.
Amazing lecturer, very funny. All grade is tests.
Carrico is such a character. He is so interested in the the material he teaches and it shows through the lecture, he even makes you buy his book for the class haha. He will be retiring in a year so if you can, please take him! you won't be disappointed!!
Carrico's lectures are so crazy lol. Attendance is not mandatory, but just know that he basically does a test every other week so if you miss the week's lecture you're kind of screwed for the test. He does very few homework assignments and they're super easy, but he takes 0 late work and they're a lot of points so don't miss one (like I did).
Carrico was a one of a kind lecturer who was passionate about the material while knowing how to keep class engaging. Class composed of 2 hws, 3 quizzes, 1 midterm, a final, and some ec. Clutched up with an 89 right before finals so he rounded it up to an A AND I was able to skip finals. Thank you for a great semester and happy retirement, big dawg!
Richard is one of my favorite professors i've had here. He is hilarious and passionate about the material. Lecture attendance is not required but you will probably find yourself looking forward to attending them. He is engaging and has so many fun stories. Grade is based almost all on tests though, so study up because he will try to trick you.
Carrico is a hilarious and passionate professor. Attendance is mandatory, but you'll look forward to his engaging lectures. Quizzes and tests are tricky, so study hard using the textbook and unstuckstudy AI for prep. Overall, a great class if you put in the work.
