Movies he shows are boring and he grades the 2 papers like he's an English professor. However if you show a little, and I mean little, effort in his class, he will work with you. He won't fail you; take it if you need a MATH core and a passing grade.

If you're taking computer science take it with Cavello. He's a great teacher and his grading policy is more than fair. His classes are never boring and he does an excellent job intertwining Math and computers and society.

Professor Carvello is the hottest teacher at Hofstra. He is the bomb.... I hope to have again at some point at Hofstra.

He doesnt like 2 throw things away.He'll break out calculators n whatnot from the 1920's.iF hE HAD A YARD sale he'd make alot of money.He is a great professor.A lot of work but its easy,just do it.4 his tests just make sure you read the book n its a piece of cake.He is really helpful too. This professor has to be the best I've had. He is awesome he knows his stuff and is really cool, do your work and you'll have no problem. Prof. is hardcore someone not to mess with, AIR FORCE, DET 560, holding it down. He has alot of cool stories, just talk to him and you'll know what I mean.

i know computers really well so this class was a breeze, especially the web design portion. but he was a great guy and really helpd anyone out if they needed it. skim the chapters in the book though, they def. help on quizzes.

really cool prof. no attendance policy really, but once it gets hard, you need to go or you miss too much. he has you do problems in class about what hes teaching-really helps you understand the concept. hw due almost everyday, but overall an awesome prof...take him if you can! and get him to know you, its a huge help for grading (hw and tests)

Professor Cavello is the man. Very fun teacher who really enjoys what he is teaching. Stay on top of the HW's and Quizzes. Make sure to do ALL of the extra credit too b/c they will help you out in the end. Didn't have to take the final b/c i had an A already. Overall easy A and great professor

OMG by far the best professor at Hofstra. He is the sweetest man ever!!! Very fair and loves teaching. He looks out for his students all of the time. Do the homeworks and extra credit assignments. He totally made my week when he said I was exempt from the final because I had an A already....love you professor!!!! your awesome!!!!!

Professor Cavello is awesome! He gives you plenty of chances to bring up your grade with extra credit (points added to your final grade!!!). Easy A if you do the extra credit work.

Great guy, funny as all hell, complete nerd and Trekkie... sounds like a stupid comment, but the class is TOO easy because he gives so much extra credit there is no motivation at all to pay any attention or even show up... doubt it is possible to fail as long as you don't kill yourself from boredom first... at least computers in front of you always

Cavello is great. Who ever posted that junk about the class being too easy must not have read the course description. It's an "overview", fool. What were you hoping for in an entry level core course. -I didn't think the course was easy but Cavello's methods of teaching sure helped me get the material that I thought was difficult. He's the bomb

This class was NOT easy & ALOT of work, and yes he does give alot of extra credit but they ARE HARD & time consuming. the material is tricky but the prof does good job of makin it learnable. there was 6 quizzes 5 hw, 1 test, 5 xtra credit, 1 pp, 1 xtra credit pp, html pro... so there was more then enuf 2 challenge you. lots of work, but rewarding

Great professor and always willing to help you with class work. His computer science class was a great alternative to having to take a basic Math class if you are given the option. You will leave the class understanding a lot more about computers thanks to Prof. Cavello's teaching style.

good guy, knows his stuff, however the class is rediculously hard i was forced to drop it. You really have to pay attention to everything he says. If you fall behind slightly your done

Professor Cavello is a GREAT professor, one of the best I've had so far. Managed to make an 8am math class fun. Very clear, very fair grader, and exempted you from the final if you did well enough during the semester. Definitly recommended!

Good teacher and very helpful. I recommend taking him for statistics. Offered extra credit and exemption from the final if your grade was an A by the end of the semester.

Best professor. some of the questions on tests are the example problems in the book. very easy if u study.

He doesn't grade harshly, and he's just the sweetest man ever! I definitely reccommend you to take him, he's awesome and I've heard some horror stories about other comp sci professors! Prof. Cavello is the best professor I had so far. He is extremely fair and so helpful. He jokes around with students and makes the time go by faster and if you do the reviews and study for exams you will do well. He makes every effort to accomodate students. I got a B+ and was exempted from the final...Take his class!

Going into this class, I already had a good amount of experience with precalculus and calculus. However, Professor Cavello provided effective refreshment of the material, allowing me to succeed in his class. He's a nice, helpful man who someties makes jokes, and I believe he truly wants his students to succeed

Professor C. REALLY knew the material well and was able to relate it to real life applications every day. A very fair grader and a class that is definitely worth taking. You will look foreword to going to class every day. I think the other people who reviewed him and said bad things had a different guy, Professor is great. Take him!

Prof C is approachabl, helpful and keeps precalc fun with his sense of humor. Math is not my forte' but I feel like he has taught me the most out of any profs/hs teachers that I've had previously. He organizes precalc by a VERY HELPFUL packet so that the class is laid out from the beginning. 1 piece of advice: GO TO CLASS or you'll be lost.

One of the best Math teachers I've ever had. Even without a pre-calc background, he will connect the dots for you as long as you ask questions. Like all things, it's good if you pay attention in class, he doesn't try to trick you. He explains things very clearly, and he's fun, he knows Math! He cares about the students! Just ask for help :)

This Prof. is by far the best teacher at Hofstra. He was ALWAYS available for communication and was always helpful. This class was really hard, but he worked with me and I ended up with a B in the class. Do all the extra credit and you will be fine. He is a funny guy and isn't too demanding. This professor is awesome. I am absolutly horrible in computer science and was closed to the 60's 70 range.. he gives you so much extra credit and it aslways avaliable for u.. as long as u make some sort of effort in his class he will notice that and help u out!

Good teacher. Bringsi n cool stuff. Really gives you a comprehensive lesson of computers through history. Very understanding when you're in a rough situation but also won't be walked on. Good guy.

Great professor...made material interesting, gives plenty of extra credit, helps you along the way...spreads out material so quizes aren't filled with a bunch of different topics...if you follow directions and put some effort in you'll do fine

He's an admitted nerd, and classes are fun. It's a bit of work, and you're going to have to put some time into the class, but I thought the topics were interesting. Not a hard grade if you pay attention and do the work.

Professor C is one of the coolest teachers ever. He makes everything clear and easy. He is also the nicest guy ever. I slept in his class almost every day and still managed a B.

Good teacher! I hate computers but he made it interesting. All notes are on blackboard so you dont have to copy the whole time. A lot of assignments but their not that hard. Study everything on his slides and youll pass. At the end he gave us a chance to keep our final grade or take the final.

He is a fantastic professor. He tries to get you engaged in the topics. He does give a decent amount of work, but it's relatively easy. If you don't do well, he gives a ton of extra credit assignments. If you get an A in the class, you don't have to take the final. One of my best professors thus far at Hofstra.

Prof. Cavello really loves what he teaches. He makes the class interesting by bringing in old computers etc. There is some work to the class but it is all easy work. There is also alot of extra credit. I had to drop CSC the first time because it was too hard and I took it again with him and I got an A. He is the best teacher at Hofstra

Professor Cavello is a retired computer programmer who is at Hofstra because he truly loves computers and teaching people about them. He gives everyone an opportunity to succeed with extra credit. The major project for this class is creating your own website, which is actually really fun and interesting. I would definitely suggest this class!

Cares about the subject and the students. More than fair grader, gives plenty of extra credit. Totally understands the students in this class aren't computer science majors. Tries his best to make class interesting. Overall I definitely recommend this guy.

Must take science course. His computer science class can't get any easier. There are enough extra credit assignments to get you 15 points on your average. As long as you do the assignments and the extra credits, it doesn't matter what you get on the tests, you'll still do well in the class. Nice guy, lots of cool videos.

Cavello was great. One of my favorite professors at Hofstra. I had no interst in CSC before this class but I did look forward to it. He keeps it interesting and offers so much extra credit it's impossible to fail/not get an A, you just have to apply yourself. Great guy, definitely take him.

He gives work and quizes but if u try then u will get an A! Trust me it pays off in the end (no final if you have an A b4 that)! I thought i would hate the class but loved it! Making a web page was sooo cool! And TONS of Extra Credit! try just a little and you have an A!!!! I WISH I COULD TAKE HIM AGAIN!

Nothing bad can be said about him. He is by far the best professor I have had so far at Hofstra. He really cares and wants everyone to do well. His quizzes are fair, homework is fair and he gives a lot of extra credit so it is impossible to do bad. He made me really enjoy the subject and class. Walked away with an A and knowledge that will last me.

He is a a really nice a guy and a good teacher. his midterm is pretty hard, but not impossible if your study everything. he gives alot of quizes that you have to be prepared for. he gives alot of extra credit, so if you do all the extra credit and homework you will do well in the class. HE IS AWESOME! I liked him so much that I'm taking him again for Astronomy. He is a fair grader, and gives alot of E.C. He makes jokes and can take a joke. Keeps the classroom informal (in a good way) and comfortable. If you dont understand, he will slow down to help you. He is passionate about helping and an over all really good guy.

I love this man so much. He is one of the best professors I've had at Hofstra to date. A good amount of work, but a lot of extra credit too. Do your work and you'll learn a lot and really enjoy the class (and get an A if you work hard). Do whatever it takes to make sure you have him for Computer Science or Astronomy. Anything. Just do it.

One of the best by far! Although there is a good amount of work and the material is not easy, Prof. C understands this and does an amazing job. So passionate about his students, If only all of the professors at Hofstra were like him! I learned so much in his class that I will take with me.

CSC may be difficult for some, but Professor Cavello gives numerous opportunities for help in class and out, and also provides extra credit assignments. Had an 86 in the class, finished with a 99 after writing two extra credit papers. Take him!

Super nice gentleman to have for a Prof! I REALLY wish atleast half of the Prof at Hofstra were like him! Made the class fun & enjoyable. Was a required class for me, however, I enjoyed going to his class. Brings in cool gadgets for the students to see. NEVER boring! Great Professor. Best in the department by far. Brings gadgets to class and keeps it fun. Downside to the class is that it is a heavy workload however if you workd hard pay attention and do the extra credit which he gives alot!! of! then you will do great. Prof. Cavello is very nice but I think people are being mislead about the difficulty level of this class. A lot of the material is very confusing and you can't just memorize facts beforehand. For a core class I didn't think it would be this hard and I had work in all my major classes that I didn't have time to write 5 page papers all the time.

Cavello is a great professor. Very passionate and knowledgeable about his field. Very accessible to students. He gives you every opportunity possible to get an A you just have to care enough to do the work and extra credits. Great professor

i swear, prof Cavello is one of THE BEST teachers at Hofstra! cavello was nice enough to let me transfer into his class even though he had a full class already. as intimidating as the class seemed, i stuck to my decision of staying and do not regret it at all because his class was worth it! he is the nicest, coolest teacher EVER. His class was very organized and clear. If you keep up with the work, it's a very easy course to master. He is funny, and really enjoys teaching. I took computer science with him, and really learned a lot from his lessens. He was great, and its a shame he is retiring!!!

Not hard at all. Just do the hw- takes 20 min. 10 quizzes based on the hw. 4 tests based on the quizzes- vry easy. He's alot of fun and is very passionate on the subject. You go to college hoping to find teachers as fun, passionate, and caring as he is. went to fill my NSC requirement and left loving the subject. you'll enjoy the class- trust me.

Professor Cavello is a boss! test questions are taken from the homework's and the class material and he is an awesome guy and laid back..too bad he retired

HE IS LITERALLY SO COOL!! His lectures are VERY clear and he gives precise instructions about assignments and he doesn't really if assignments aren't on time as long as they're done eventually. He talks a lot about his personal life and his job (which is playing saxophone and clarinet professionally) as it pertains to the course.
