very good teacher
If you aren't a science person, but want to do well, he is the ONLY one to take!
Grading system/test and quizes is more than fair!
genetics class was great!
I just hate Bio, that's all, but he was pretty easy!
What a class. There is no other way to learn bio - easy, interesting
Take his class, trust me. I'm not BIO major; I got an A.
hard class. hate genetics now

this guy rocks. pay attention and you'll get an A
Easy A....just go to class!!!
genetis alone is hard. He has awsome office hours. explains till understood!
Just go to class and take notes
He is only one to take if you want to get an A and are not a bio major
very clear understanding of the material
Throughly enjoyed his class, very fair, perked my interest in biology.
Easy as Pie!!!
you don't even need to buy a book. just go to class. lots of extra credit
very easy and nice guy. just study quizzes for tests
great person, fun class, enjoyed his lectures
GREAT Professor! He explained genetics very well! He is more than willing to help you. He gives a lot of extra credit so there is no reason not to get a good grade.
Easy A if you go to class
He is the best at CNU! His quiz and final are extremly easy. He is not boring at all and he's very nice. All u have to do is just go to class.
This class is cake...I had no trouble with it. Friday quiz questions go directly to the exam.
For an extremely boring class, he is a great teacher. He actually teaches and doesn't read out of the book... you should only get a book if you feel like wasting $80. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
awesome guy, great teacher, take this class, don't think about it just do it, you will do well, you will pass, you will thank me
Best prof ever. I hate bio, but i love him and his ties!
Great professor. Always has a lecture that will actually hold your interest.
Awesome teacher, four friday quizez = 4/5 of the exam. Lovely ties:) don't buy the bio book...you don't need it
Easy class. dont buy the book because you will never use it. If u have questions before tests or quizzes, ask them because they are most likely going to be on the test
Really easy class! He is SO jolly! He makes you excited about biology.
great teacher, nice guy, good lectures. dont have to read at all, weekly quizes that are semi-easy, tests very easy.
Actually makes Bio somewhat interesting. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS. Don't buy the book; I never opened it once and got B's in his classes. Exam questions come right from the quizzes, so make sure you copy down the correct answers.
go to class...take some notes...DONT MISS QUIZES...do the ex credit...dont buy the book...you'll pass with an A
Great Professor! Great guy! Dont buy the book...just take notes and go to class! Take class from him...easy A and he makes it interesting!
Reed's easier. DONT buy the book. Easy A
so nice and def do the extra credit. exams and final easy because he takes exact same q's from quizzes.
best prof ever!! He is so helpful and makes class very interesting. Study for the quizzes and the tests are all the quiz questions put together so all you have to do is memorize them. His passion is teaching-take his class!!
Fun class and teacher! Don't buy the book! Never used it. Quiz every friday, but if you take notes it is easy. Tests are the quiz questions pretty much. Shows movies and they are usually really good. Makes the class fun and even gets to know you by your first name. Best teacher I had all year!
Took him over summer, he was AWESOME. He's chill about if you skip and all, he doesn't recomend it but he doesn't take off... Best professor at CNU, definately
Super Easy Class...TAKE HIM!!Great Guy!! Really nice!!
Awesome guy. Very clear and fun class!
Dick Cheney is the greatest. I'm a history major and absolutely suck at science and still got a B. He's really fun, friendly, and easy. Do the extra credit, its simple and chances are you'll need it later. Would recommend, especially for non-science majors who would usually suck at bio...you won't
About as interesting as a Bio class can be. Weekly quizzes are easy if you attend all classes and take decent notes.
Good professor to get if you can. He gives lots of quizzes, but they're usually not bad and have an extra credit question on them. He also drops a few low grades and gives you a couple of other opportunities for extra credit. Nice guy too.
I LOVE HIM!!! Nice, Funny, and a Great person in general.
Great teacher!! You have to slow him down sometimes, but overall is not difficult to follow. No book required, all tests come from notes. Always willing to help students do better.
Awesome Professor! Everything on test is covered in class. There were never any questions on the test I could not find in my notes. Go to class, take notes, look over them and it should be easy to test. Wonderful guy!
take this class cause he drops 5 quizzes and his tests are straight word for word from the quizzes. his final is just the tests and some new stuff from the last couple quizzes. go to class and take notes. you do not need the book. great class even if you hate bio...lord knows i do
Great professor! I love him!
weekly multiple choice quizzes... very easy and willing to help... if you have to take Bio and aren't looking forward to it, take it with Dr. Cheney he's awesome. he'll help you enjoy it!!
Genetics with Cheney was really interesting. I had such a wonderful time in his class. The labs were challenging, but if you nagged him enough he would help you every step of the way (hint, hint). Haha, he is just really a wonderful guy. Thank you :)
Cheney rocks!! He made Bio a lot easier to understand. He's funny without knowing that he's being funny at the time. I reccomend everyone take him for something, so you can see first hand.
Dr. Cheney is awesome.
easy easy easy just take notes and u pass
Hes a real nice professor, but the class isnt very easy. If you want to learn alot take Cheney, hes great, but there are other Bio teachers that are easier
Cheney is AWESOME! deff. my fav. and easiest class this year. Skipped at least one class each week and still pulled an A. Just take notes and you will easily pass the quiz you have every friday. Also the tests are made from the exact same questions used for the quizes. Im taking him next semester for sure!
Very clear, concise and helpful. He lets you know what his expectations are from day one in his class. Also, the format of the course is very helpful to any student that likes structure. Also, much opportunity for extra credit and rebounds from bad quizzes.
even if he has a hard class this man deserves fives all the way. AMAZING teacher. Want good teachers? come to the bio dept. but stay away from betchtold. maybe she'll decide teaching isn't the life for her? it takes a person of great calliber to be a professor that makes a difference. This man does it with style.
one of the easiest teachers ever. if you just listen during class you can get A's on the quizzes which are in effect the tests. super easy. try to get this man
dont believe the hype hes not that easy, had an easier time with reed
Great professor!! One of the first classes that I took at CNU. Made a great impression!! Thanks Dr. Cheney, and take good care of my nephew!!!
He started reading he was easy here, and subsequently got harder. Like a previous person said, Reed is easier.
So I took cheney because of his ratings, and supposedly he was easy? I dont know if its just me but he must have just decided to get a lot harder all of a sudden, I took Reed last semester for 107 and I think I did a whole lot better in his boring class. CHENEY IS NICE.... NOT EASY!
Dr. Cheney is very knowledgable, he has an answer for basically every question people ask in class, and there are some odd ones. The class is what you make of it, the tests are easier than the quizzes, but if you put in a little effort you should be fine. He gives extra credit and drops a few low quiz grades which helps.
there is no such thing as a good or easy bio teacher at CNU, they are all spawns of satan... except sherwin.
i really liked this class. if you go to class or at least get the notes you should do fine on the quizzes. the tests are a breeze, he's really clear, i don't know what those other people are thinking
Cheney is not "so easy". His tests are hard considering the bio cirriculum is very rigerous for people who just need to satisfy gen ed. He really knows his stuff, but just confuses people. Easy? Let this evidence prove otherwise. 60 student quizes, 23 Fs, 21 Ds, 10 Cs, and the rest above. It's like that every quiz. Not a good teacher.
He does not use overheads or notes in his class. It is purely lecture and you must take the notes that you think are most important. It is a required class and of the two Biology professors he is the better but this class is difficult for those who are not gifted in the area of Science. He is more then willing to help though if you want.
This is a large lecture class. He doesn't write on the board so much but he uses the projector very often. you never need to draw the digrams from the overhead b/c those are all from the text book. quiz every week but it's so simple. and (versions of) the same questions are on all the tests.
He is a nice Professor. IF you know nothing of Bio before going in this might seem like a hard class because he does not use the book or anything. So you really cannot just skipp out of class because his Quizzes and Tests are entirely from His Lecture. Otherwise he always tries to make it at least a little interesting for people.
weekly quizzes, two tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but in order to do well on the quizzes you'll need good lecture notes. DON'T BUY THE BOOK!
I went to Dr.Cheney for help and he told me it was too late in the semester to be asking these questions and that I should already know how to do this. This class was difficult and Cheney made it worse. I wouldnt recommend taking him, but hes the only professor that teaches genetics!
One quiz per week (12 total). One test after every four quizzes (3 total). Test questions are word-for-word from quizzes. So just pay enough attention to pass the quizzes, then study the quizzes to ace the tests. Hard to actually learn anything though...he lectures to much without giving any structure to his notes. DONT BUY THE BOOK!
Plan on recording his lectures b/c he talks so fast you will not be able to write down everything. Asking him for help is a waste of time b/c he will not help you but he will tell you that you should already know the material. Best bet is to memorize the book b/c his test questions are abstract and the scenerios are next to impossible to run.
The class is hard, but Dr. Cheney is a good professor. Make sure you read the text and study in groups. Feel free to talk to him about the class; he is ok w/ you making suggestions. Request a study guide for the tests.
Very Clear. Quizes are directly from notes. Make sure you study how to label the diagrams of organisms
Pretty easy. He seems hard at first, but if you do okay on the quizzes, you will be fine for the tests which are word for word copies of the quizzes. Definitely do the optional assignments, they are quick and easy and help boost your grade. He is a pretty nice guy and seems like he wants students to do well.
Interesting class, but i might be biased because I love genetics. He was a much better professor in this class than in BIO 201. His lectures were generally interesting because he would give real life examples. He tries to help you but if you're totally lost then forget it.
Not clear at all what he wants you to know for the quizzes, unlike Atkinson for 107. He's a nice guy but he goes on and on about stuff that is never on the quiz and asks you about terms he barely touches on. If he said "when we talk about..." one more time, I would've exploded.
he is a really nice guy. his quizzes are totally random though. midterm and final are almost the exact as the quizes. I would recommend NOT taking him if you don't have previous knowledge for this course.
He makes this gen. ed. class unnecessarily hard with weekly quizzes that contain questions he often times doesn't even cover in lectures. The only plus side is the tests are all the quiz questions, but the lectures are boring, normally quite early, and makes everything too complicated.
Hard at first, but a lot easier once you get into the hang of things. He puts all of his slides online. I recommend leaving space for each slide in your notebook and just writing what he says in class, then while you are studying, go back online and copy down the slides. If he repeats anything, it is likely to be a question.
Cheney gives interesting lectures. This class was not hard at all. I got a 107% on the final because it was word-for-word the first 2 tests with 10 extra credit questions. weekly quizzes are not so easy, but if you study enough, this class is an easy A!
Genetics was fun and easy with Dr. Cheney. I took 201 with him and thought he was unfair and kind of mean but this class restored my faith. After Genetics, I took 391W and Emb. of Vert. with Dr. Cheney and loved both classes! Be interested and good at math and you'll do great! Minimal busy work- flylabs- but they're WORTH IT
His lectures are very boring, the quizzes are okay, although you MUST read the textbook to do well on them. Tests are not easy, but not ridiculous either. If you have an option of him or the other teachers, he would not be my first choice.
He is a decent professor but he didn't make his lectures very interesting. His weekly quizzes are 50% of the final grade with the midterm and final both being 25% each. You must do well on the quizzes since they are 50% of the final grade and because the midterm and final are based around the quizzes. The textbook is optional.
Dr. Cheney is awesome!!!! I love this teacher. He is so helpful and his tests are so straight forward. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed by the math. Its not that hard at all. He's also extremely helpful and wants his students to do well. He's extremely friendly and really loves what hes talking about.
Very keen on subject material so that you understand the biology of the class, but then the quizzes are very frustrating because material is not in the textbook often and often the material is some obscure detail that even exceptional students would not have studied.
Dr. Cheney is very intelligent and knows a lot about biology, which I think makes it harder for him to teach entry-level biology. Quizzes are really important so study a lot for them. Overall, lectures were pretty boring and contained LOTS of material, so be ready to study!
An easy A if you go to class and take notes. Pretty dull though. In office hours he's really nice.
Genetics was definitely NOT fun and he was not very helpful at all during office hours. There is no extra credit and he expects everyone to just understand genetics before taking the class. Oh and his constant scribbling in small print and erasing wrong numbers on the smart board doesn't make the course any easier.
He really is intelligent and very approachable. His tests are right from notes and his old practice tests. I definitely recommend taking a class from him.
Attendance is not mandatory although there are 10-question quizzes every monday. Easy class and he is very clear in the PWPs and puts them all online before class. Nice guy! Easy A!
Don't buy the textbook! You really only need to go to class on Mondays, because he gives quizzes every week. Theyre simple if you just study the slides he goes over in class/puts online. It's not necessary to do it this way, but the best way to go is to do well on the quizzes in the beginning bc they are easiest. LOTS of EC from dropped quizzes.
This is a very faced paced class. If you fall behind you must go see Dr. Cheney for help. This class is confusing and you better remember your elementary genetics!
Questions are vague, typically tricky, does not always follow the powerpoint
I am a student who has been on the Dean's List frequently and always get high grades in classes, but I am getting terrible grades in this Bio class. This is because he words questions very vaguely and doesn't provide enough information prior to quizzes and tests. Terrible professor and class.
Not a professor I hope that I ever have to have again. Cheney, whether in class or office hours, answers questions so rudely. He responds as if the question were completely obvious and it's incredible that you don't understand. Nobody likes to speak up in the class or ask questions because they feel like they're running into a buzz-saw by doing so.
Don't buy the textbook. All you need are the notes from his powerpoints. Quizzes every Monday. Only a midterm and a final test. He reuses questions from those quizzes on the test but make sure to read the questions carefully because he switches it around to trick you.
Very good programming professor. Dr. Cheney explained concepts clearly and we had several examples in class so that out of class, you could do them on your own. Would take again and highly recommended.
