He used old exams. If you have please study them and also study the study guide. His lecture is great!
Lectures are great! He really explains the information well!
Good class, teachs off ppslides, as long as you study his slides, the book, AND the study guide( cause thats where some of his questions come from verbatim)and do his online discussion questions, easy A since its straight forward.
I highly recommend taking his class. He presents the subject matter clearly and has many years of experience to back up his lectures.
excellent teacher but the tests are reallllllly hard
He is an excellent teacher!!! his tests are hard but as long as u study the old exams frm previous semesters you will get a good grade.
His test is very hard. It doesn't come from book, slides or cases. Most of the people are failing. I will not take him again.
He's an enjoyable teacher. He keeps you interested throughout the class. However, his exams are kind of tough. I didn't have any of his old exams to study off, but if you study the powerpoints and cases you should do just fine.
His exams are very very hard. I don't know where he makes it from. I would not suggest any one to take him again.
Great Professor!
He tries to make it interesting and has a lot of enthusiasm. The only bad thing is that is tests are pretty tough, you need a thorough understanding of the material.
Good professor, and the tests aren't that hard. He teaches the facts about law, but on the tests he uses examples. If you understand the concepts, and apply them on the tests, you'll do fine.
Having had him twice in two different Biz law classes, I have to say that he is a great professor. Everything is posted online, making it possible to miss a class and still survive. His tests are markedly more difficult than what you expect though. Study hard!
I can't tell you how boring this class was and how so not interesting the guy was. I guess just come to each class and take good notes and you can pull off at a B
very nice and helpfull. but make sure study for test and exams.i did not a good grade but i will recommend this professor.
good teacher, but tests are extremely hard...he's a hard grader too...
He is nice teacher, but exams are very hard. make sure you read the book dont just rely on slides. You will be fine if you go to class and read book and slides.
This teacher gives some of the hardest tests I have taken at Mason. There is a ton of reading and the tests require you to apply some pretty ridiculous concepts. When it came down to my final grade I was 1 point shy of an A out of 350 points and he didn't give me the A (B+ instead).
This professor was very nice and helpful. His tests are extremely difficult, although he drops the lowest one. There are seven quizzes throughout the semester and then a final. He is pretty fair, but you have to apply the stuff you learn, not just memorize it.
Straight forward. Offers a legal perspective. I had him for BULE 302 and this class is easier because it maintain a focus on Title VII stuff. He does do quizzes, but this will cause you to "study as you go" and therefore the exams seem easier. Good lecturer.
Think that last one should be MGMT 431 (He doesn't teach 411). Anyway, I pretty much agree, but it is possible for his test to be a bit tricky. Overall the class is fairly interesting.
This was the first semester that he taught this class. He only has 2 exams, midterm and final and quizzes throughout the semester. Do well on quizzes b/c it will help you in the end b/c you are forced to keep up with material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR EVER. I NEEDED ONE POINT TO PASS THE CLASS AND HE DID NOT GIVE IT TO ME DO NOT TAKE IT TAKE DEMORREY FOR BULE 302
He is very mean on grading. he failed me because i didn't attached my article with research paper and he took off 20 points for it. If i get those 20 points i pass the class. He is very very mean professor and his exam is extreamly hard.
Lectures were decent. We covered a lot of actual lawsuits which made it interesting. You must read and study to do well in this class. He is fair but his exams are really tough. Like someone else said: you can't memorize only - you need to be able to apply it. The exam questions are mostly situational. I would recommend him.
Lectures were very interesting...he's a funny guy. Not exactly an easy professor but as long as you focus on the slides and read the cases, you will be fine. He intimidated me at first, but ended up being one of the best professors i have ever had. Very friendly guy even if he tries to be intimidating on day one.
I have him this semester and I have to say he is one of the best Ive had at GMU. Always has a smile on, and truly enjoys what he does, which is rare in most prof. Lectures are interesting and uses real world examples which help. Exams & quizzes are straight forward if you keep up with the material. I HIGHLY recommend him!
Very very interesting professor! Makes you think of everything from a legel standpoint. Very nice, very approachable, definiteyl one of the best professors at Mason! One Caveat: Watch out for tests! Study study study! Quizzes are pretty easy, so dont be fooled about exams!
Very interesting and fun classes, don't mind getting up early to go. He is always helpful and is really funny. Exams can be a bit hard, but he drops the lowest score of 3. The quizzes and postings can help you pull your grade up if needed.
Be ready to study your butt off and get a hard earned C. Don't let quizzes fool you tests are 100 times harder. However, the class is fun and light. You might actually learn something if you take him.
Yes you do need to study, but really no different than any other challenging class. The information you need to know comes from his slides and lectures. It was an enjoyable class too. He is helpful and fun.
I really learned a ton of very helpful info in this class. Coffinberger made the lectures SO interesting. But tests are challenges and need to do alot of reading. Don't be a cheap miser, buy the DAMN book.I read the book, looked over the slides/cases, and did great. Stop whinning if you just rely on slides. Plus,he give LOTS of extra points on exam
This class was interesting, but you do have to take weekly quizes that you need to study for. But they help you are whole lot for the test. This class was really interesting and he teaches the information in a really entertaining way.
Great professor, makes BULE interesting. GO TO CLASS and LISTEN. Also, studying the book and slides don't hurt either. Nice guy.
Awesome professor. His tests are tricky, but he gives lots of extra points and allows you to appeal if you thought certain questions were ambiguous or not covered in class. He made lectures really really interesting, and you learn a ton of great info. Definitely recommend over the other bules professors!!!
Old fashioned with a great sense of humor describes this charismatic professor.. i concur with tests being difficult but they are nothing abstract. the majority of questions will be hypothetical situations where you have to apply the concept and not just rely on remembering its general definition. study slides, cases, AND READ THE BOOK!
As long as you study and do the work he assigns this guy is great. Not only is his teaching clear, but he is great to listen to in class. This guy gets an A++.
Great professor, keeps class interesting. Tests are not easy though. Definately have to study to get the grade. I, however, didn't read the book once and got an A- in the class. He's real funny. Make sure you do all the small assignments (quizes/online postings).
This professor is amusing in class. Learning about the law isn't too bad either, it's actually quite informative. Just do all the assignments (even though the reading consumes alot of your time) it helps out during quizzes/tests. It's not too hard to get a "B" but you do have to make an effort.
This professor is very interesting. He makes you want to listen and gives good real life examples that you can relate to. He drops the lowest test of the first three and the lowest quiz out of 7. If you print and study the slides you will pass. Exams are pretty easy if you put some effort. You will enjoy learning about the law.
***HIGHLY RECOMMEND*** class very well oriented. if you can't pass his class then you need to get out of GMU. he's fair in his grading and policies.
***GREAT TEACHER*** Prof. Coffinberger is a good guy. He teaches well. Out of the 8 quizzes we had this semester - dropped 2. Best 2/3 Tests and Electronic Discussions straight forward. He explains everything very well and makes the class FUN. Gives real life examples and is very fair in the optional appeals for each test. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This is a great Professor. I highly recomend taking Coffinberger. He keeps class interesting and is very funny. His lectures are to the point and very clear. Quizes can be a little tricky but if you study the notes you'll do fine. Also he drops the lowest quiz, and test grades.
Just make sure you show up to most of the lectures and read his slides. I barely used the textbook, it was definitely a waste of cash. He's a pretty decent teacher, tests are a little challenging (they were for me, anyway). I recommend him though, it's actually a pretty interesting class.
One of the best profs at Mason. Very fair but tests can be difficult unless you study the notes. I found the book was also helpful.
He is a wonderful teacher. I looked forward to his class! He made the class fun & interesting! As long as you read the slides, cases & supplement material you're ready for test. He drops one lowest quiz grade & test grade. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend his class to anyone who wants to enjoy Businees Law (BULE 302 or MGMT 431)
he is so nice and a really good teacher at the same time. his quizzes aren't too hard if you study but his tests are really hard. i highly recommend him!!!
Good professor!! Fun lectures
Coffinberger is not bad. The tests were a little bit hard but not extremely. He is a funny man and usually kept me entertained. I didn't open the book at all this semester but I read the notes/slides throughly and went to class often. I would recommend him.
Great Professor, his lecture was very informative and entertaining. He's a very nice guy. His exams are very hard though but his quizes are not too bad. Just study and you'll get atleast a B.
Prof. Coffinberger is very nice and helpful and makes classes are interesting. However, his tests are very tricky, and his quizzes and electronic discussion are ok. Make sure you understand all materials on the power point plus read the book. I did this, and I got a solid A.
Great Teacher. Tests can be tricky but overall a great class and you'll learn a lot.
The most fun lectures I've ever had. He is so entertaining.
Great Professor, one of the best at mason. Very entertaining lectures, he is hilarious. Highly recommended.
He is awesome, very funny, helpful, knows the subject well. Uses very good examples. He's hot too!!
coffinberger knows what hes talking about and most of his lectures are pretty interesting and easy to follow. he posts the powerpoint slides online, which is helpful. hes very fair but his tests are tricky! i reccommend reading the textbook to do well on the tests. because reading the text really helps you learn the material. take him!
Worst Prof Ever. Quizzes are hard (15 matching questions and almost 25 options to choose from) Exams are hard
he's a nicy guy had the lectures were very interesting. but his exams are tricky... make sure you know everything on the slides and read the book too. an A is hard but not impossible.
Let me put it in clear terms. This class reminds me of a bar with GREAT service BUT BAD BEER, FOOD, ETC. He is nice, teaches well, but exams cover 10% of that information he actually teaches. If you want an excellent communicator BUT a 'D' or 'F' he is for you.
hes actually not that bad...he gives quizzes but drops the two lowest, but the quizzes keep you studying as you go along so it helps...online hw is a joke its basically free points...tests are pretty tough you rly do have to study and KNOW THE CONCEPTS, dont just memorize crap or you will flunk em...he does curve final grade also...dont need book
By far the hardest professor I?ve ever had! You seem to have the material down, but when you get the exam hes so specific youll end up second guessing all your answers! You need to be able to identify every aspect of law and apply it. Make sure you read the chapters, do the practice tests in the study guide book (sometimes theyre the same Qs on the
What most everyone else says...he's a nice guy but there is a HUGE difference with what he teaches and what are on the exams...You study the slides and book but the exam questions are far more detailed than what is ever taught. Avoid if possible.
Test are not anything like what is in the lectures, AVOID if possible.
He seems to come off like a real nice guy and interesting. But his exams are NOTHING like what he goes over in lecture. If you can, AVOID
This class is interesting. Keeps you awake w/ cool case studies and good stories. Its true that you need to really understand the material before an exam. Some questions can be really tricky but not impossible. Sometimes gives extra credit and drop grades just to help out for the tricky stuff. Don't read the slide once and expect an A. Must study!
Not a bad professor. He gives good examples of real-life situations to help you with all the legal theory. Without the textbook, you CAN get a B, though you need to study the slides well. His tests are difficult; they involve a lot of boring memorization of the terms and definitions. Depending on who you are, you'll find this interesting or painful
Must go lecture and listen to him explaining the PPT slide or you won't really understand the material on it. I didn't buy the book but i went to every lecture and study hard for the test. I got an A in the class with no text book but attend every class
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! His tests are extremely hard. His class is extremely boring. He doesn't give study guides or hint what will be on the test. My average study guide Iwould make for each exam was about 20 pages. He gives 4 exams (only 3 count) and 5-6 quizes (only 4 count). He is a nice guy but his class is hard and mind numbing.
As evryone said that he is funny and ineresting but his exams and quizes are really hard.I spend the same time as i spend total of all my other four classes , but i got better grades in other classes instead of this one.In our class, only fifty percent studentd passed his class, most of them were ended up with C.
I wouldnt take him if I were you. His quizzes and tests are extremely hard and though he gives a curve its still not very helpful. I got a 71% and he still gave me a D because thats a D according to his own made up grading scale??? yeah.. I dont reccomend anyone take him!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! The most important thing, his exams and quizzes are hard~!!! Even though you think you studied enough, you will get hard time. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
All of those that had problems with him are crazy. If you come to class, read the book, and go over the slides, you will get a good grade. He is extremely fair and can be very funny. This is not a free ride. Grades on a decent curve for the final, has a chance for extra credit on his tests, gave everybody in our class a free A on the last quiz!
He is a great teacher but the exams are HARD! I never bought the book because he gives ppt slides in class. The lectures are boring but important to attend to get all the info. No matter how much feel like you have studied its not enough for his exams. But good policy of dropping lowest grade in case do bad on an exam.
Bas professor--he just tries to bring the avg low so he curves little high just to say that he curved and still people failed--he would have 10 extra options in matching questionss
His class is so hard. Don't take with him; otherwise, you will feel pain. Half of our class were fail the class in this summer semester.
If you take with him, you will waster your money and time. His class is so hard!
I actually loved this class. Took it in summer so it was short, but I got a lot from his lectures. Those who bemoan him are likely those who feel they "pay for an A." If you don't learn something in his class, then you're not trying. Tests are not brain-dead easy, but they do make you think. If you can't use reasoning, don't take. You'll fail.
It was a very very extremly difficult class ever in my life.. that's all I want to tell you
If you honestly felt you studied enough for an A on a given exam, you will likely get a C. I read every supplemental reading, every chapter assigned, listened thru each ppt audio lecture repeatedly, and still the exam throws curveballs. How do over half of the people in a class end up with below a C average?? We are not all slackers here...
If you read each chapter, take notes and study the slides you will do well. You MUST study a decent amount for his tests and quizzes. Take detailed notes. Learn and comprehend the concepts. He doesn't test on basic knowledge and simple facts, you must comprehend.
very enthusiastic. i was dreading taking this subject but he made it interesting. READ SLIDES + CASE STUDYS, there most important, then sup reading, and if u have time read the textbok to clarify. hes a nice guy and is helpfull, but u do need to study alot. but if u do study u will see results which is different from most other classes iv taken.
Fav prof at Mason. Such a funny little old man. He makes you want to go to class. His lectures are always interesting and the tests are made up the things he goes over on his ppts. If you go to class you wont even need to study. I suggest reading the book before class. Super easy, fun class. Love this man!
Rated him befor but i wanted to clarify i mistake i made. Ihe is nice and helpfull and id reccommend him. after taking the first 2 testes i thought the book was optional, but the later tests were based more on info from the book, so you should read the slides and csse studys as well as the book. again very nice guy and enthuseastic. A+ teacher
This is one of the more straight forward classes I've ever taken - read the book (especially the Supreme court cases), LISTEN to the powerpoint slides, and read the extra case studies. I took this class online btw. The stuff does get harder and harder so do as well as you can on the first 2 tests and all the quizzes.
He is so funny! He is the reason I am now considering going to law school. He makes everything so easy by giving you hilarious examples. The book helps but I stopped reading half-way through the semester and still got an A. Review the slides and reading material.
He's adorable! It's very straightforward & he gives memorable examples. Skim through book & pay attention to lecture slides. Make sure you listen to them too! Do review questions at end & read supp. reading. You should be good to go. Really, the BEST BULE prof. BTW, I took this class online & got an A.
Good professor his class is not that hard. I went to class once and then only came for tests and I got an A in the class. Make sure to read the book and the additional reading he gives.
Read the book, study the ppt slides, read the extra material, and you'll get an A. Syllabus is clear. He's super organized and very helpful if you have questions. There is no pointless BS busywork, no stupid participation grades, etc like in most other GMU classes, so your grade is based on merit alone. Best prof at Mason, hands down. RECOMMEND!
I did not like his exams at all. I took his summer class, and it was A LOT to read. His exams have a lot of ambiguous and vague questions in it whcih makes it frustrating. He also has some questions in his exams that we couldn't even have know because he neither talked about it in class nor was it in the book. I do not recommend him. I got an A-.
The book was really not needed. I would highly suggest going over the slides and attending class. Some days he just goes over the slides; other days he had interesting debates. You have to pay attention to the test questions. Some have more applied learning from the cases not just the case result discussed in class. I enjoyed this class immensely.
I really liked his lectures. He explained the material very clearly. I recommend reading the chapters before the lectures and make sure you have read all of the case studies. Do this and you'll be fine. Awesome professor and he's funny too!
The best BULE302 professor you can possible have at Mason. He explains the dry law materials with vivid examples. Print out all the lecture slides and go to class, study with the textbook study guide, You will be surprised how much you had learned, and have a good grade.By the way,he said he did not like to curve, but guess what? He curves!
Attend class, study slides, and read textbook! His tests are not difficult as long as you study the material..because it's very straight forward. No surprises! He is also very nice, and is very thorough about information if you are confused!
Attend lecture, go over lecture slides and supplemental readings. Read information in the margins of the textbook to prepare for tests. He is very helpful, fair, and extremely nice.
The way to ACE the tests is if you study slides very well, making sure to have a SOLID UNDERSTANDING of all the terms, be well-hearsed with end of chapter quuestions from slides + use book only for definitions and for examples to clarify some concepts.hes a great teacher and gives extra 10 points you can get each exam + can take only 4 of 3 quizes!
This class is not portrayed of what you might think it would be. If you want to practice the "legal world of law" then take it, otherwise, don't take it. Not exciting at all. Monotone type of lecture.
My favorite professor this year. Interesting guy with a lot to add to the subject. Uses his own case examples, which are way more interesting that the ones in the book - oh, and the book, you don't need it so save your money. Just go to class and study the lecture slides. His questions are tricky so study hard!
Class isn't too bad. Your grade is 4 exams + final exam. He drops the lowest of the first four. His test questions are mostly from his slides, so study those.
He is a nice old man and makes the class interesting with funny case studies. Study the slides!! Didnt use the book once. Drops the lowest of 4 exams. Curved the final grade a lot as well. Study hard because he likes to trick you sometimes. I got an A and skipped the last test.
I studied a lot but the exams always still managed to have a few questions that threw me off. He's one of the harder profs I've had at Mason, but not too hard. The material is very interesting and he's a great teacher. Just study hard, this class will challenge you. I'd recommend and old edition of textbook cus we didn't use it much, so save ur $$
Take it over the summer. The class is quite easy if you memorize the vocab and terms from the book. I am sure attending class is good for some people, but I never did and finished the class with a solid A.
Very hard class. And very interesting material. the online quizzes and on - campus exams are hard and focus on small, particular details, that's it's even hard to notice when reading the book. PP slides are very important. the book is too, since that's where the details on the exam come from. it was a difficult A but I would not recommend this prof
The quizzes and tests are not too hard as long as you study the powerpoints well. He makes lectures interesting and helps you learn the material. I would recommend Professor Coffinberger. The only complaint I have is that he does not accomodate for travel times.
Interesting lectures online with interesting case examples. However, his online mini-exams only give you 40 minutes which sounds like a lot but when you have to look for the smallest of details it will fly by leaving you with only half the answers done. Interesting slides but extremely hard tests.
His lectures are very interesting. Study the slides, and you will be above 85%. One or two question from the book, so you really do not need it unless you look for A+. His exams are based on your understanding the materials more than how much you memorize it, but it does not mean you do not have to memorize it. Good teacher, I recommended him.
This class has been one of my favorites at Mason. Literally study the slides and the cases he tells you to study before the exam and you will be fine! Pay attention on the exams and take your time!! Wish all professors were this helpful about what exams will be on...
A really good professor,he is really passionate about the subject. Just read the slides(4 or 5 times),PAY ATTENTION to the cases, you don't need the book. All most all of his material come from the slides on the tests. He told us he doesn't curve, but he curved at the end of the semester.
Go to every class! very interesting lectures compare with other professors. don't waste your money on the textbook, read the power point slides and the court cases for the exams, his exams are very tricky, be careful.
Absolutely helpless!! His BULE 302 online was a total nightmare, and he is extremely unwilling to work with your situation.
This isn't an easy class, but you are given everything you need to do well. I can see how people might not get an A if they don't put in the work required. Listen to the lecture slides, study them several times and use there will be no surprises on the exams. He is very thorough. I didn't use the book and got an A just using his slides.
All the material provided via PowerPoint is very accurate and reflects the exams. Pay close attention to the cases because he will use similar examples exams. Listen, read the full lectures, take notes, and you will pass.
