Instructor is funny, down-to-Earth and cool. He makes the subject interesting. He is very professional. If you miss class the tests will be hard. Really good teacher! I would recommend his class.
One of the best teachers I had! The teacher is very cool and has alot of passion for art but when it comes to studying he gets serious. If you fall asleep in his class than you shouldn't be in college. You'll look at art differently after his class.
You definitely come out with a different perspective of Art History after you've taken his class...Be prepared to take lots well written notes...He makes the class interesting and worthwhile...His tests are not easy, but he does give a review (extra credit)...Do not miss class! Overall, he's an excellent professor!!
He is one of the best professors i've ever had in my whole life. So helpful, Fun, Interesting, and, knowledgable class. I was depressed for two weeks after the class was over.....take his class 4 sure, and u'll see that i was right:)
Professor Coleman is the best. You do have to study though if you want to get a good grade, but he makes the class really interesting and entertaining. We had only 3 tests, 1 paper, and a few quizzes. Just go to every class, take good notes (I was only using my book for pictures) and you'll be fine. Highly recommended.
Coleman is the best teacher you will ever have. He has taught me so much- his passion for art is contagious. I am extremely sad to be leaving him.
He is one of the best teachers at GCC. Just take good notes and try not to miss a class. His tests are hard but his quizzes are extremely easy.Remember you NEED TO TAKE NOTES, NOTES NOTES AND NOTES....
Loved his class! He is sooo passionate about art history that it gets funny sometimes... you'll see if you take his class. Make sure you take notes and study them hard because you will need to remember a lot of art. I suggest putting post-its of the notes next to the pictures in the test book, it helps a lot. Plus I met a couple of hotties
Prof. Coleman brings the class alive with his contagious enthusiasm for the artworks and their history even though we had to endure rigorous notetaking, as hard as it is, it pays off with a general enhanced knowledge of art and the history behind it
greaaaaaaatttt teacher! -wanna take him again
Highly recommend him!
i love him people, i sleep during classes but i learned so much from him he is just the funnies teacher ever... he says things that u make you laught the whole day... he is so great take him, you never get bored trust me
HES A GREAT TEACHER!. HELLA FUNNY AND KEEPS THE CLASS INTERESTING. YES YOU DO HAVE TO TAKE A LOT OF NOTES BUT ITS JUST BASICALLY LOOK AT THE SLIDE AND COPY WHAT HES PUT ON IT. TESTS ARE THE ONLY BAD THING. THEY ARE SHORT ESSAY QUESTIONS AND THE ART HE SHOWS. HE GIVES U A REALLY GOOD STUDY GUIDE AND HIS LECTURES SINK IN REALLY GOOD. TAKE HIM
great teacher !!!!!!
LOVED HIS CLASS! Art History can be a very boring subject but he makes the class fun! He is hilarious! and he is very passionate about the subject and is very knowledgable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
it was pretty fun and easy at the same time you learn and have a lot of fun.
i dont recomment yu take him on short semesters such as winter or summer. youre gonna miss him too much ;)
I had coleman for his first semester at GCC...took a chance cause he had no ratings...Best decision I ever made...Till this day (two years later) I haven't had a professor who tops him. Prof. Coleman is simply, PERFECTION IN THE FORM OF A HUMAN BEING!
this man is a genius!!! I had him for a winter session and I wish I didn't because winter sessions are too short for a fun class. This guy is hilarious and plus I did learn a lot. For those of you interested in art, this is the man to learn from.
Professor Coleman is an excellent professor. He is funny, energetic, and can be surprisingly lenient despite his fearsome first impression. But make no mistake, he's no pushover. You don't really need the book for this class, merely good notes. His lectures are fun and the hours will fly by. His tests are all essay, so MC lovers be wary.
i love you Mr. coleman!!!!!! :D
He is simply the best prof. I?ve ever had (Very knowledgeable & Hot) ;) i took his class a year ago & i still miss him! He traveled everywhere & knows what he is talking about, if you like Art then you?ll enjoy every second of his lectures cause they come from experience & passion. If you are a visual learner & a good listener you?ll get an A
THIS MAN IS FREAKIN AWESOME. HIS LECTURES ARE EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING AND HIS EXPLANATIONS OF THE MATERIAL ARE CLEAR. TESTS ARE HARD BUT IT DOESNT MATTER...HE MAKES YOU LOVE ART HISTORY!
Hands down my favorite Professor!! I love art but he's responsible for my love of Art History!! If all professors were like him then we have more graduates that are more passionate, thus leading to a better world!!!!
Best professor! He is extremely entertaining. i loved this class. he tries to scare you the first day. But don't fall for it. he just wants to make sure you really wanna be there. this class is a piece of cake if you just read and study the notes. super Easy quizzes too.
Amazing professor. Knows his stuff to the teeth. Very humorous and a fair grader. Uses the introductory scare tactic to ward off "Easy A" people. Just look alive, take decent notes, and do for him what you would want him to do for you, and you will succeed. Miss you, Mr. Coleman.
He is simply amazing. His passion for Art History completely changed my view of the class. I took him over the summer session, and while it was intense, I loved every minute of it. Just remember the lecture notes, pay close attention to the pictures, develop a good relationship with him and there's no reason for you not to succeed in this class. :]
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!! Took him winter Session for 07-08 and i tell everyone to take his class! I DONT KNOW OF ANY OTHER TEACHER THAT CALL FULLY AWAKE HIS CLASS AND HAVE THEM WANTING TO LEARN MORE!!!
I dont know what you guys are talking about but this professor is extremely rude and hard.
Very funny. Knows what he's talking about. Exams are tough, you really need to prepare for them but he's available to help you if you need it. Overall a very fun class
He is a wonderful teacher .If you dont like art and not interested at all ,I dont recomend it to take. You have to be aware in his class and take notes. He is a fair teacher.I really miss him and our class (summer 08). Overall, HE IS THE BEST .
He is the best teacher I've had in my life, I honestly never thought that Art HISTORY could be like this. He is crystal clear about everything he teaches, his exams are straight forward. I would say attendance is mandatory because its good to be in class while he is going over the drawings etc. BE PREPARED TO TAKE A LOT OF NOTES..no laptops allowed
His class was very funny and interesting. i looked forward to it. Just make sure you are detailed on his tests. He does not take b.s. answers. O and forgetr about using cell phones in his class. When he says no to cell phones, he means it! If he catches you txting, he will embarass you in front of the class.
One of the most insightful and brilliant instructors it has ever been my privilege to study with. You must definitely attend his lectures and do the reading to keep up with him, but it is so worth it to do so. He changed the way I look at the world.
probably the best teacher in GCC, because you have to earn your grade. I admit he is hard, but he can make funny jokes
You have to really cram and study for his exams 2-3 days before, but on the other hand, there's no homework. You don't really have to read the textbook...everything is in his lectures. He's a funny guy and a really great lecturer.. his passion really comes through! I will miss this class. Definitely reccomended! He's one of the best professors.
This man is awesome. I have never had a professor this clear and passionate about what he is teaching. Take him or you will regret taking any other teacher. You will learn soo many things.
Professor Coleman is an awesome teacher! If you're considering Art 101 take it with him. He will attempt to scare you in the beginning but it's an easy class. All you have to do is memorize everything he says in the notes and you'll be fine. Plus he tells you during notes exactly what he wants on the test. The class is a lot of fun, he makes it int
BeSt TeaCher EveR~! He iS VerY KnowLedgaBLe & He MaKes u LoVe ARt HisToRy~ He KnowS all DetaiLs aBouT What He is TeachinG~ He iS aVaiLaBle WheneVer U Have aNy QuestiOn~ His ClaSs iS EnerGic & awaKe~ u Will Miss Him WitH No Doubt~!
This guy is awsome. not only is he an excellent Professor, but he's a fun and cool person to talk to. he is extremely knowledgeable and shows alot of passion for art. he's hilarious. He makes the class fun and interesting. I definitely reccomend him to anyone!
TAKE THIS CLASS! HE IS A GREAT TEACHER! He may scare you the first day, but as long as you take notes and come to class on a regular basis, you'll do fine. His tests and notes are straightforward and he is very passionate about what he teaches! SO FUNNY! THANK YOU MR. COLEMAN!
Seriously one of the greatest professors I've ever had. His tests are all essays, he is a hard grader (loves detail!) but you will never be bored in class and he makes the topics SO interesting! Don't let his difficulty keep you away from his classes.
He is THE BESTTTTTT, the only class I have actually ever enjoyed at GCC
Took this class a while ago back but absolutely loved this teacher! He is hard but very straight forward about what he wants! Plus, he isn't hard to look at!
The class was very fun and I learned a lot about the subject matter. He will attempt to scare you in the first day of class, but you should not worry. The tests are straightforward and he gives you the possible questions a week before the exam. They are all essays. As far as the professor, very fun to talk to and funny.
Professor Coleman was the best professor I have ever had! His class requires A LOT of note taking and he talks too quickly, but he is so passionate about the subject, it rubs off on his students. The class itself was extremely interesting and Coleman made it worth while. The only down side to the class was that it ended. Other than that, I loved it
He is a note-based teacher. If you miss a class, you miss a LOT on his tests. You must attend all the classes to get full participation points and it is worth a lot. If you attend all his classes and dont zone out, you'll easily get an B+ or an A.
Professer Coleman is such a great teacher. I have enjoyed every minute of his class. His love of the subject comes across in everyminute of his lecture. Its not easy however, you have to go to EVERY class you need every word that come out of his mouth. Be prepared to stress for his exams, but if you study you can do well.
I had Mr. Richard Coleman in high school for AP Art History 5 years ago, let me tell you, I never saw the world the same again. I often visit museums or travel, whatever it is related to the history of art, his perspective crosses my mind. I feel like I have become obsessed with art and history everywhere around us. I cannot explain...
OMG! He is one of the best teachers at Gcc! He is hillarious to begin with. If you study his notes and study and understand what he is explaining, then you will be fine. Make sure to always attend class and TAKE PLENTY OF NOTES! You will not regret this teacher his the best!
easily one of THE BEST professors i have had. <3 wonderful teacher and friend. hard work required so don't expect to get an easy A. in the end however, you leave his class with a new appreciation of the world around you. loveee him (:
he was a great teacher! fun! energetic! very passionate about art. i got a D because honestly i couldnt handle the amount of notes and studying lol. JUST STUDY THE NOTES. youll be fine! BUY THE BOOK!
Very interesting lectures. But if you miss at least one, you'll fail your exam. You never know, what grade you'll have at the end. You have to study very hard to have "B" or even "C". Many students dropped the class because of the difficult exams. No multiple choices at all. Only essays. If you lose one detail, you'll lose the point automatically.
Great personality. Great lectures. Great sense and skill with his field of knowledge. You HAVE to listen to everything he says and write almost EVERYTHING he says because his tests are all essays and very much based on the things he said during his lectures. Quizzes are probably the easiest - if you study. REVIEW and helps to have the text too!
Professor Coleman was the best teacher I have ever had! His class was definitely hard work and hand cramps but it was worth every minute! He is so passionate and helpful...art is his life! I love Professor Coleman. Definitely recommend his class to those who need Art. Wright is a great professor as well
LOVED! Best teachers i've had at GCC! his a great teacher a little hard but so worth it! make sure to take plenty of notes and pay attention and understand his lectures or else you will fail! but overall his the best i enjoyed this class even though i passed with a C but his the best!! and soo funny loved every minute of that class and his cute ;)
expects you to know EVERY single detail. if you miss a class make sure you take your quiz or test. if not he will mark you down at the end of the semester for attendance! passionate about his art. but if you dont say it his way you will not pass. is NOT an easy grader.
He really knows the material and is extremely passionate about it. His class was great but you really had to work for the grade. Make sure to write everything he talks about in your notes. The book isn't really used since his tests are directly from notes. Know every detail from the notes and you are bound to do well on the tests. But great class!
I have two words for Coleman: Freakin Amazing! this man is the best professor I have ever had and Im definitely looking forward to taking his Art 102 class soon. He is so passionate and hilarious and to sum it up in a nutshell I loved him! His class requires a hell of a lot of work, but you end up learning something. So worth it!
I learned a lot about art in his class and got the grade that I deserved. He is crystal clear about everything and his lecture notes sum up his tests...take notes=pass the class:)He is also very funny...and handsome;P
It's really rare to see a professor like him in a community college. He's really funny and knows his subject extremely well. He is so passionate about art history, it tends to rub onto students. However, you must work for your grade. Being a great professor isn't the same as being an easy one.
He is one of the best professors. I don't like history nor art, but this teacher makes you learn in a interesting way. Just pay attention in class get the info study your notes , n you'll be fine; ( Learn the material)

Just simply put in the work and preparation and you will get the A. Its a lot of memorization, but he teaches in a way that is so easy to remember. I'm pretty sure this guy can lecture about tax codes and make it interesting, fun, and easy to remember. What a treasure he is. Please take this class! You will look at art differently!

Take Professor Coleman's class and you will definitely fall in love with art. He makes the subject so interesting that it will change your view of the world. I sat right in front of his desk so I could take good notes! I don't think I ever had a professor like him, so funny and intelligent. To sum it all up, best class I ever had! JUST STUDY!
This teacher is amazing. Ill be honest his class requires lots of studying, and note taking, but he makes every minute worth it!He actually teaches you, is hilarious, and knows how to grab your attention.....if you want to actually learn something and have fun while doing so take him! I loved every minute of it!
In one sentence: he is one of the best teaher in the GCC.
HE IS AN AMAZING TEACHER. I honestly loved his classes. But if you slack off you shouldnt take it. He really helps you out if you need help. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT it helps if you are boarder line grade. His lectures are very funny and he captures students attention. he may come off as mean but he has very high expectations and he doesnt take BS.loved
this guys an idiot i busted my ass and i got a D..are you kidding me? This dude needs to tone down his stuff especially his ridiculous exams
Don't pay attention to any bad reviews, he is one of the most amazing professors I've had at GCC. He is so passionate about what he teaches and is very clear about what he expects. He doesn't try to trick you on his tests. There is no homework, just go to class, take notes, and study them for the test. He also has a great sense of humor!
He's great! He's alot of fun because he loves what he teaches. He gives study guides for his tests. Take good notes and study the guides he gives and you'll score well on his tests. I just loved his class. Take him is you get the chance. If not take, Emily Haraldson. They both are great!!
Easy class for me cuz I got a good memory. All I did was go to every class, study the day before the test, and my grades were awesome. All my tests and quizzes were in the high 90s. So if you're good at memorizing stuff like I am, take his class!
LOVED this teacher. I couldn't stop listening to him. He made this class so interesting and unique. I loved coming to his class every other day and finding out something new about a piece that I thought I knew quite a lot about. You HAVE to come to class though. His tests are all on his notes basically. If you listen, it is super easy.
I took Professor Coleman for Art 101 and 103 and again I loved him. He is just such an amazing professor. He does have high expectations but he tells you what they are flat out so I don't understand why people are complaining. A lot of note taking but totally worth the 4 months! Love him!
When I first attended this class, he kind of scared his students saying this is not an easy A. He is an incredible teacher who speaks loud and clear and makes his lectures super funny! His tests are based on your notes. All you have to do is take amazing notes and study!
He is awesome. I took the class because I had too.. But his drive for teaching made me want to take another Art History class.
Take this class, just and just if you want to learn something. He knows what he teaches. You will love it if you love to learn something.
By far the best teacher i've ever had. Class can be difficult at times but the knowledge you leave with is so worth it.NOTES ARE KEY!!!!! I would definitely take the class again knowing it will take a good effort to finish with a good grade.(P.s perfect class for those who like to have an open mind and wonder about human existence and the universe)
This is probably one of the hardest art class there is but you do learn a lot of information. I had lots of fun and his enthusiasm makes you like the subject even more. Also don't ever take your phone out during class cause you will be kicked out even for looking at the time. If you want a fun art class i suggest this one.
very good teacher, but HARD class! be prepared to memorize every single word of you notes. your notes are every word that comes out of his mouth, so just have time to dedicate to this class if you want to get an A. I still thought he was very funny and interesting though.
He is one of the best professors I've had. Very clear and entertaining! I took a lot of detailed notes and read the book occasionally before the test, memorized words for quizzes and got an A in the class. I loved it.
the bestttttttttttttt
I loved Coleman! He makes Art History worth learning! You don't need the book if you have good photographic memory and take really good notes. If you're deciding whether he's worth taking, go for it! You won't regret it :)
Ok so i don't usually take my time to write reviews for teachers buthe's an exception. Hese amazing ok his humor alone is worth taking his class. don't buy the book his test is everything he lectures on you'll pass with an A if you study. I got a B and I didn't even try that hard. gave me extra points for turning the light on and off lol loved hi
TOO MANY NOTES!! BUT his exams and quizzes are easy if you read over your notes. Can be a bit demanding but since there's no homework it's fine. Starts and ends puntually. For me, thee best art teacher in GCC! Learn a lot of history plus art so it makes a great Art History class. The information obtained is useful in a history class.
I fell in love with architecture after taking his class. He's very passionate about the subject and he is very smart. He expects you to be very specific on the exams, which are written. After doing well in his class I realized I can pretty much do anything haha. He's very genuine and funny and the class is VERY interesting.
he makes his lectures interesting however it is hard because there are way too much material he wants you to know. a lot of memorizing as well but his so funny and the best professor!
ok im not going to sit here and write a non truthful review. Mr.Coleman says from day one that he is one of the hardest teachers...you basically write a 6 page essay + 30 multiple choice questions and it better be detailed or else its no good but honestly he is passionate and loves art you will for sure come out knowing way more than you did!
Great teacher, very passionate about the subject. His humor will keep you interested and actually wanting to come to class. The tests are difficult and require a lot of memorization, but as long as you prepare you'll do just fine. Highly recommended!
This professor gives extremely interesting notes! I took him for 101 and it is very interesting when I thought I would be bored. THIS CLASS IS HARD. SO much memorization for test but its worth it. You learn a lot and he is funny!! Do the extra credit and you have to write down his every word for your notes!! Overall, recommended!
Coleman was awesome, i had him for Art101. He's hilarious, really fun to be in class and you'll never be bored in his class. BUT BE WARNED, you MUST take notes and write down almost EVERYTHING he says. 3 tests total, each includes writing 1 essay, 2 short answer and 20 MC. Study your notes and youll get an A. Take his class.
really fun class! art history becomes very interesting when he teaches it. Buthe does have some weird fetishes with sculptures. Be warned that your lips will never be as sexy as Nefertiti's lips. You must also write down every single word that comes out of his mouth! do this and you will pass! I really do recommend this class. Best teacher ever!!
Professor Coleman is a gem here at GCC. If you are looking for a good art history professor, he's your guy. Be warned though, Coleman isn't an easy professor. He makes that clear the first day of class. Every single word he says must be spit back at him during the exams. Grading is based on 3 essay exams. A lot of memorization but he has passion.
The best teacher ever. He's very funny and very very interesting. You will never be bored in his class. It's not as hard as he says the first day of class. Just study your notes and you'll do fine.
Mr. Coleman is just a really funny guy. He made greek and roman art class fun and he is very passionate about what he teaches and you learn alot because he keeps you interested in the subject. You have to show up to class everytime or else you miss the slide shows and you get lost and you might miss a test question or two!
Out of all the professors I've ever had GCC, Coleman is probably the most memorable one for me. He's a really funny man and he's very passionate about what he teaches. I would recommend taking his class to anybody regardless of major. If only I could take his class again.
Awsome professor, keeps class very interesting. Very funny and can teach very well. His tests are at a decent level, just make sure to study and you'll be fine.
The BEST teacher I ever had, he is super funny and has a certain dry humor at times, but he made the class super enjoyable.
THE best! This is one of those classes you MUST attend because he gives a lot of information and also he tells you what will be on the exam. His Exams are usually 2 short answers, 20 multiple choice questions, and 1 essay question. His quizzes are kinda hard though! To pass you MUST study hardcore and like i said attend the class! He is funny too!!
Even though he does not take roll you should attend every class becasue his notes are so detailed and you need every detail for the test. You cant be lazy and you have to try and memorize each art work that he goes over in class bc they are all candidates for test questions. Overall he is a good professor.
FAVORITE professor in GCC. The Best! His class is mostly for art history majors, but if your not, and like it, take him. He makes it all super interesting. Don't need book at all unless its a habit to do better. Go to all the classes and copy every word he says and slides. Memorize as much as you can and youll get high grade. Funny, smart, amazing.
The absolute best teacher at GCC! This class is his specialty so he is pickier than in other classes. Super interesting class, if you like this time period though! If you have not had him before and are planning to take this class, be prepared to attend every class, take good notes, and take essay-style exams (3).
passionate teacher and interesting class. It's absolutely possible to get an A if you go to class, write good notes, and study before the test.
Very fun and energetic teacher!!! Makes you to love the class and material. Extremely helpful but you have to take a lot of notes and and study very hard to get an A.
Amazing doesn't begin to describe this professor. Best instructor I have ever had in my life. Very helpful, nice, and funny. He is very passionate about what he does and makes the class fun for everyone. You'll never get bored in his class. The amazing thing is he gives a study guide which gives you an idea how his test is gonna be like. Take him!
He is literally the best art history professor on campus. He knows his stuff by heart (can't stress that enough). He is hard but you learn. The way to get an A in his class is to take AMAZING notes (as I do) you have to review the notes constantly to remember things because its alot of information. If your into architecture you'll love him for sure
I wish I was still in this class...Why? Because Coleman is an AMAZING Professor. I never thought I would be so interested in Cave Paintings & Marble copies of Ancient Statues & now I can't get enough. TAKE GOOD NOTES! Remember History behind each piece for tests & you will get an A. Memorize time periods, Titles. Not an "easy" class but SO WORTH IT
I took Mr. Coleman's class a while ago when I was still attending GCC I have long since transferred but will not forget this amazing teacher. He makes you WANT to wake up at the butt-crack of dawn and attend his class. Very interesting lectures. Totally want to be his friend lol.
Fair warning! This is not an easy A class. Go to every single lecture TAKE GOOD NOTES. You don't even need the book everything on the test comes from his notes. He's extremely funny and I must say one of the best professors I've had so far. Study hard and the A is possible :)
Not only did I learned the material but it also improved my study skills and note taking. His test are based on his (amazing) lectures. With a passionate teacher(lie him), you know you're always going to learn and be interested in going to class. Just take him!
if youre looking for a prof. that won't bore you coleman is your man. he is great at what he teaches. you just have to be responsible in taking notes and i mean it. take good notes because the photos you see and the info he says are the test. you are going to learn so much, i did.
awesome guy! and even a better teacher...take good notes, word for word from his mouth...exams are hard but easy points with quizzes and attendance, class is easy B with lots of studying...try not to miss, ask questions, and DO NOT BRING YOUR PHONE TO CLASS!!!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR A SHORTENED SUMMER OR WINTER SESSION. His class is very dense. He loves to teach it and makes it interesting. Discipline is important. Meaning attend all classes even though its optional and take great notes, not good notes. Most notes should be what he says not whay the powerpoint or books say. Fun professor
probably the best professor I had so far in GCC. a very exciting and interesting man. attendance is mandatory. exams are based off his lectures. study hard and you will get a good grade. getting an A REQUIRES HARD WORK AND EFFORT
He explains EVERYTHING thoroughly. Half of the class fails because they don't study enough but its all essay tests that make COMPLETE sense (i got a D the first time i took it) he explains everything in class, write down every single thing he says because then when you write the essays, you give him exactly what he wants on the tests, TAKE HIM! :)
He might be an excellent professor, but the course... he makes it far more difficult than it has to be. The exams are very tough and he is incredibly harsh with grading essays and you must write down literally EVERYTHING he says during his lectures. You need to stay awake and wrote down every word he says during class. Very tough course.
Hes awesome.Lectures are mandatory! If you wanna pass you have to work your ass off & live and breathe architecture for one semester.Hes hilarious I wana be his friend.Just pay attention!3 exams a couple quizzes an a essay. Pantheon is a long essay question for sure. Focus on pantheon! Loved him so much! You'll never be bored
Prof. Coleman is a great professor!! He is tough & will make you study very hard for a decent grade. But after taking his class you pick up some good study skills. But you have to take his class very serious and jot down his every word! He likes test answers as detailed as possible. ( only 3 tests; mainly essay questions )
Great teacher. has lots of enthusiasm about what he's teaching. has a sense of humor. tests arnt very easy you do need to study for them.
THE GREATEST! U NEED 2 study & go 2 class 2 pass the tests. Dnt even think abt falling asleep or txting on ur phone, he'll kick ur butt out. He's really amazing tho&u pick up some great study habits. He makes me want 2 change my major & im a business major! my favorite class! Sad the semesters almost over. Any1 who hates him is probably failing lol
Professor Coleman is one of the BEST professors is GCC. He is passionate and funny. His lectures are clear and very interesting. I took him during the short session. Though the class was long and intense, I could not wait to go back to his class ( I am a science major and that says a lot!!) Just attend the class, take notes, and pay attention.
I took two of his courses last semester. It was challenging as he warned it would be. He is one of the best instructors I've had in my academic career. He kept me engaged and is willing to help if you show interest in doing well. Show up on time and take great notes. I can't emphasize this enough. Tests are heavily based on lectures.
By far one of my favorite instructors. Yes, it is a tad bit hard but if you take good notes and actually pay attention to him then you should be fine. He is amazing and funny which makes the class fun! Highly recommend him!
Enjoyed every second Art 101 and 103. It's not an easy class. Be ready to take notes.
His class has got to be one of the toughest classes I've taken! Get ready to take pages and pages of notes. WRITE DOWN EVERY WORD HE SPEAKS ITS ALL IMPORTANT! I ended up writing 7-8 pages filled with details for each question on his tests and ended the class with a B. (3 exams, some multiple choice & about 3 essay questions each). But interesting!!
He says that u gonna fail: if u r a slacker, cannot take notes fast and memorize every single info of his lectures, if u cannot write super fast, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. Half of class dropped because couldn't handle it. He is tough! But if want to learn and appreciate a good class, TAKE HIM. He made me interested, I would take again!
3 exams, long essay questions, you have to memorize every detail of his lectures. You don't need to read the book at all. Just need to take note of everything and memorize. Use flash cards to help. Use the study guide and write essays before the test to help memorize and write fast. Lots of quizes during the semester. Tough but GREAT lecture!
Best professor I have ever had! His class is super interesting, but requires a lot of work. DO NOT SLEEP IN CLASS!!! You will literally fail if you do so. His tests are difficult, but if you know your stuff you're good to go. Highly recommend this class.
I had never written an essay in my life. He's intimidating but will teach you how to take notes study and get serious. You have to study and better be organized and taking notes the entire class. He motivated me to learn, I wish he could teach me every subject cause he's awesome !!
You can tell her loves what he teaches and makes you feel passionately about it to. So far he is pretty hard of exams but his lectures make up for it. I honestly didn't care about art history before his class but now I'm really interested about it! DO NO EVER USE PHONES IN CLASS. he hates phones. and don't sleep either! NEVER SKIP CLASS.
He is amazing at lecturing. Ridiculously passionate and very funny. If you have a question you can just ask him or email him. His tests aren't easy but you just have to work for it. I would take him again. Also what he speaks about I bring it up in my everyday life and at least I can say my friends find it fascinating.
Very specific, lectures everyday. Speakers very loud. be prepared to write a lot. Overall he is a really great teacher who is eager to share his knowledge. Also has a good sense of humor. Recommended ! I learned a lot. Test are hard though!
This is not an easy class and it shouldn't have to be. By far this was the best I took this semester. He is so passionate and so helpful to students ready to answer questions around the clock. I worked hard. Tests are all lecture based. 3 per semester. He made me love art history and now I'm minoring in it at a university! Thanks Prof Coleman.
you need to study hard, be present for the lectures, take a good notes, pay attention to whatever he says and appreciate the chance to have a great teacher.
On the very first day he told me how difficult his class is, especially for someone who isn't an Art major. Though he scared me at first, I ended up getting an A! TAKE GOOD NOTES! You really do need to study for his exams and be descriptive with your essays. It wasn't easy but getting an A is possible! He's very passionate about what he teaches!
LOVED this class! His love for the subject is infectious! If you want an easy A don't take him. If you don't mind paying attention and actually studying you will get that A. Takes lots of notes! I would DEF take him again! He is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Next stop Rome and Egypt, to see everything we learned about.
Best teacher to take this class with if you are really interested in architecture.
Literally THE best teacher at GCC. Do your work and you'll pass. He's an awesome teacher.
You have to feel bad for anyone that can't appreciate this total master of his craft. A rare and special gift to academia
The best professor ever. I enjoyed his every single lecture. He is so passionate about art, and he teaches with pleasure and interest. Very intelligent and with great sense of humor. However, keep in mind that will need to study a lot. It's not an "easy A" class. Also, make sure to take good notes during the lectures.
One of the best teachers at GCC. Does not tolerate childish games. Very difficult if you have not taken ART 101, 102, or previous art classes. It is an interesting class that will teach you the importance of Art History. Take it if you dare, it will only challenge your academics. He is very professional, and an expert on art.
Mr. Coleman was definately one of my favorites this semester , he is AMAZING , I was so scared the first day because he was really clear about what he wants in his students , but his class is amazing , not easy at all , but he makes it SO interesting that you will LOVE IT ! srsly! one of the best ones !! DO NOT SKIP CLASS!!!!!!!!!
He is an amazing professor whose passion for his subject is infectious. Being present for lectures is crucial to passing. His tests can be difficult and will leave your arm hurting from writing so much, but he tells you exactly what he expects of you and what to study though so if you put in the effort you shouldn't have any excuses.
Professor Coleman is with out a doubt one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is extremely passionate about the subject which makes the class fun & interesting. He is very professional and fair. He is clear on his expectations and tells you what to study. Be prepared to take a lot of notes, your grade depends on them.
AMAZING LECTURES. Very memorable class and professor. Definitely the best class I have ever taken. Yes, you do have to study a lot and attendance is very important. All the work is worth it, I miss this class so much :/ Very fun and interesting lectures and material.
I fell in love with the subject. He is a great teacher.
Mr. Coleman was the first professor that I had class with at GCC. He sure did scare us on the first but his classes are SO worth it. He made it clear that he won't tolerate any childish behavior or cellphone usage at class. and yes in case you are wondering he DID kick someone out of his class for using cellphone. TAKE THIS CLASS. OK? OK.
Man i miss this class and the proffesor only if i could have all of my classes with him
He gives AMAZING lectures on sculptures, pyramids, vases, cave paintings, architectures and much more. I still remember every single detail about everything I learned. What I liked about the class was the challenge. I would study A LOT and take PAGES OF NOTES. Make sure to ask him questions in the break or after class. I miss him :((( THE BEST!!!!
Piece of advice to all of you run away.a lot of notes and the test's are super hard and he has a very difficult personality.
I took the class with no interest in art history. At the end of the class I annoyed everyone with everything learned from him. His lectures a lot. His tests are 95% based on his lectures. If you cannot take good notes this is not for you. However, his class is sooo funny. I loved his class and teaching methods.
I found his class to be both educational and entertaining however I think if he were to allow students to use their computers (via powerpoint) during class this would help TREMENDOUSLY... ESPECIALLY since he does not have a text book available for the course (ART 120 - FALL 2016) nor are there notes in his power points at the end of each lecture.
TAKE HIM!! At first he seems scary but throughout the semester he eases up a bit and he's hilarious! 3 exams all based on notes. Don't really need the book. Trust me he is amazing! Tests are not hard if you study all your notes if you do you should get an A! You can't skip class because notes are not available online. It's all up to you to keep up
By far my favorite teacher here. His class is all lectures and if you don't pay attention he will call you out and kick you out. For real. Every detail in this class counts he wants all of the details and its not that hard if you take notes, its all on the slides easy to take notes. He has a great voice and not to mention easy on the eyes.
I was terrified the 1st day when Prof. Coleman laid down his strict rules, but I was so happy I stayed! The lectures are amazingly entertaining, involving history, customs & magic surrounding the art. The memorization of details he requires was tough but worth it. His details wind up being key points & you walk away w/ depth of knowledge for life!
best professor on earth!
Proficiency in English is really important to pass the class due to the heavy lectures every single class meetings, extensive notes needed to be recorded and essays for all midterms and finals!
Coleman is just plain awesome! He is so knowledgeable and gives the best lectures. NOTE: DO NOT let his first day "What's expected of you" scare you off. He is actually quite mellow. His class is super fun and you'll learn more per semester than most other classes. He's passionate about and loves his subject! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
I don't know if it was just my class but he was completely rude. The first day he tried to scare but I decidedly to give him a chance. I eventually dropped the class cause I couldn't stand his rudeness. Take a different Art History professor. I DONT recommend him at all.
took him fall and thought he was great. as long as you pay attention to his lectures I assure that you'll get higher than a C. Oh and take detailed notes and you won't even need to read the book. He is mellow and hilarious
Amazing teacher! Don't skip his class and take good notes. His exams are exactly from what you take in class and he gives extra credit opportunities. Plus he's very funny and enthusiastic his class wasn't boring at all!
I took his class during winter and enjoyed it a lot. The first day of class you know exactly what he wants of his students. Very funny and passionate. you wont get bored in his class just take good notes and you will get an A. He puts potential questions on MOODLE so you know exactly what to study. Also tell him you like concrete and Nefertiti.
Excellent professor. Really knows his stuff. If you are lazy or hate learning then don't take him. I loved his class. Great eyes. Just sayin'
Extremely passionate man who give amazing lectures. Amazing and dark sense of humor which I enjoy. As a History of Art major I wish all art professors had his passion and willingness to teach. Also very attractive.
He's one of those teachers whom you will thank for giving you such an amazing knowledge. If you take notes of almost everything he says and study for ALL of it, you'll get an A for sure.
Probably the best professor I've had at GCC. He is the definition of a great professor, his lectures are AMAZING and you won't get bored. His tests are very straight forward given the fact that he tests you on exactly what he lectured on unlike other profs. So if you take good notes and memorize the info for the tests you will definitely do well.
My first class at GCC and taking it during summer. Very intense and you cannot afford to miss one day. Can't get enough of his class, he's so passionate about the subject and gives amazing lectures. Take good notes, listen attentively, and practice writing your essays before the day of the exams. Details are EXTREMELY important to get an A.
Amazing teacher. He is very passionate about his field and gives amazing lectures which are both captivating and entertaining. Attendance is crucial as so much is covered every class, and if you miss lectures your grade will drop.
I had the pleasure of taking Professor Coleman's class during the summer. Easily one of the best professors you will ever have, even if you have zero interest in art history. He's very passionate about the subject so his lectures will not bore you. Pretty much an easy A if you take good notes of everything he says and don't miss any lectures.
Dont be lazy take lots of lecture notes and dont miss class. You wont get an A and hell tell you this. Tries making his class seem hard but its hard for people that dont take notes. Straight forward tests straight off lecture notes. Funny and fun lectures. He hates lazy people and you wont do well if you dont put effort at lectures.
Honestly wish i had him during a longer semester. Hes so much fun and is a kind hearted man. Dont let him scare you away with his strict rules. Everything is straight forward and down the line the class becomes very fun. Thank you professor it was amazing
He is the best, very nice person, I would take him again and again. You will learn a lot of things in his class.
I LOVE THIS GUY. He had the whole class dying from laughter and made us actually want to learn more about art history. Its impossible to fall asleep in his class because hes loud and engaging. You cant afford to skip even one class because of how much information is presented. Even though you have to study a lot, this class is worth it. TAKE HIM
Richard Coleman is an amazing teacher to take for first semester students. This was my Fall Class with him(First semester in college)and he was great, EXTREMELY Hilarious. I'm no where near Art, but he made it amazingly interesting. Just take really good notes, be tentitive & DONT USE YOUR PHONE! If you follow those, the quizze & tests, youll pass.
Prof. Coleman is definitely the toughest Prof. I've had since coming to GCC. His class is lecture heavy. And I mean lecture heavy. So you better be a fast note taker. He does not like phones so do not ever show your phone to him. He once kicked a girl out of my class for using her phone.
Awesome teacher!! Makes you really interested in the history of art. A lot of history. He's down to earth and just wants to teach so be a grown up and attend class. Take good notes! Your tests are based in your notes! Some reading but nothing crazy, some quizzes online based on reading and extra credit at the end of the semester.
Coleman's class changed my outlook, and shaped me as a more cultured person. I have an incredible amount of respect for him. DO NOT expect an easy A, you must show up to every class, and tests are multiple choice (not obvious) + 2-3 very detailed essays. But I got A's in both 101 and 105, so not impossible. HAVE to take good notes. You'll love art.
Coleman's lectures go beyond textbooks and assignments. He takes his whole class on a cultural journey. As a math major, I wasn't interested in Art History before, just took it to clear general eds. I was so hooked, I took a second class with him, just for the pleasure of it. You'll have to pay attention to detail and be present, to get an A.
Coleman is a great professor. To be honest, his class is tough and not easy. If you think it will be an easy A, think again. He is a very inspiring teacher, he teaches so well, and is funny. The way he teaches the subject, it makes you feel like you are an art historian. It is a great class with a great professor. I highly recommend him!
I miss his class! He is the best professor in GCC. Even though you'll get tortured during studying for his class, you'll still enjoy it cuz he has so much passion for art and he makes every class fun and interesting. Personally, I think it's better to have a tough class with an amazing professor, than an easy one with a bad professor.
One of the most amazing teachers I've ever taken. I dont have any space for extra classes to take, but if I did, I would definitely take him for FUN. He is hilarious, passionate about art and wakes you up better than any double shot espresso ever will. He is very lecture heavy and is not an easy grader, but as long as you pay attention, youre fine.
Professor Coleman is a one of a kind instructor. If you plan on attending his class and not giving 100% effort you will do poorly. He expects you to memorize a lot of information from his lectures, so make sure you pay close attention and take quick notes. If you put forth the effort you will do well.
I won't recommend this professor for GE class. It is too much for GE class and he grades like you are an Art major student, which is not fair. Got a B.
Professor Coleman is a real scary guy but he is passionate about his field of study. TAKE GOOD NOTES! You basically have to memorize the 9 essay questions on the study guide he gives you in order to do well on his tests. The tests are split in two sections; the first half is multiple choice and the second half are two essays. Extra credit helps too
One of the BEST teachers I've taken at GCC. Hes a very tough grader, he wants you to go into detail with every single answer and go into background info, but he is amazing. Hes hilarious and his class is very fun. dont show your phone. he hates phones. hell kick you out for your phone being on your desk.
This dude is the reason why I wake up in the morning. Unforgettable experience, take him on a dime
Professor Coleman is hands down one of the best art history instructors at GCC. Very knowledgeable & funny. He does not use a book, entirely lecture based and students are only allowed handwritten notes. No cell phones allowed-hell kick you out. Gives xtra credit assignments. If youre thinking of slacking off, take a different art class.
Professor Coleman was definitely one of my favorite professors, he is caring, funny, and passionate about his job! He responds quickly to any questions but has strict rules. If youre on the fence take this class it was definitely a favorite of mine! But you have to work for an A just like most classes. Study your notes youll do great! NO PHONES:)
Professor Coleman is great, yes this is a hard class & you really do have to pay attention & write notes because he doesn't have his lectures on Canvas. I love art & he made it very interesting &he LOVES what he does which makes you want to learn about art. His tests are pretty hard about 30 multiple choice and 2-3 essay questions and some EC.
I usually despise general electives, but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. His lectures are enjoyable, and he can be pretty amusing. You must be an avid notetaker. You have 2 ways of extra credit: attending 5 supplemental instructions and writing a paper on your trip to Getty Villa. He has 3 tests. His final is NOT cumulative and is a regular test.
If you are the type of person who is a great listener, then take this class. The amount of information I was receiving in each class day, it was just too much. I have gained defiantly more knowledge about arch history overall I've experienced great amount of stress and anxiety in this class. Btw Coleman is very knowledgeable in everything!
Prof Coleman is absolutely hilarious. The class is quite labor-intensive for a GE, but if you take good notes & don't procrastinate, you will be fine. 3 tests & a bunch of little quizzes (online or in-class) along the way. I found his lectures to be extremely entertaining & that helps to stay engaged. Overall a fun & informative class. Great prof!
One of my favorite profs at GCC. He's super funny and caring. There are 3 exams, none are cumulative. There are a lot of easy quizzes that will help your grade, and generous extra credit opportunities. Take good notes and pay attention, and you wont have to put in much time outside of class.
I walk out of his class with a tear. I love this professor, he knows how to teach and be served as an example for how every professor should be. The bad reviews come from lazy people who didnt do the work as they should have. He is the most inspirational professor Ive ever had and he taught me so much more than the material in class. Thank you!!!
Wants to appear tough & strict but once you sit through your 1st to 2nd lecture, you will be absolutely captured by whatever topic you are taking with him. He cares for his students, he is a wonderful professor & although you might not explore a career within Art History, he is so inspirational that he makes you want to. Changed my perspective alot
Excellent teacher. Has this facade that makes him seem like a hard ass but he's secretly very kind-hearted. Take meticulous notes, srsly. I liked him. He offered easy extra credit and his final boosted everyone's grades.
I have never had so much art information packed into my head. He is a heavy lecturer and 98% of his tests are through the lecture. You have to be detail oriented when taking his tests and notes. I loved his class and learned so much from it. Plus he is sooo funny. He is tough but its worth it.
He's the funniest professor ever! He acts strick but he's very soft at heart. His lectures are lenghty tho but it's durable. Regularly an essay is required during tests but since it turned into an online class b/c of quarantine, he put the lectures online and some of them were 2 hours but interesting and and no essay for tests.
Richard Coleman is one of the best teachers I have ever had. As long as you watch all of his lecture videos, and attend his classes, the class will be very easy. He is a very funny teacher and explains all of his assignments, and lectures very thoroughly. Best art history teacher ever.
I couldnt stop laughing in his class. All Im gonna say is he could talk about a building for 3 hours and youll never get bored listening to him!
I had the honors of taking this Professor my 1st semester of GCC, this is my 3rd year here and I came back to write a review on him. His lecture's are very informative, fun, funny, and intricate. His character is amazing. You'll absolutely love his energy, aura, and wisdom. Take the best notes possible, and study them, that will get you to your A!
Overall, he is good professor. However, his lectures are extremely lengthy and tedious. He posts two videos a week and two quizzes. The videos can vary in length from 2-3 hours each. And you have to watch videos for about 5 hours a week only to answer 10 question quizzes that don't do much for your grade. He is a nice man though.
I took his online class, his lectures were fun and interesting. Easy work schedule, just watch the lectures, take good notes, and take the tests.
THIS GUY IS AWESOME! im not a scholar lol ,,, but I took his class over summer n it was my first college course after failing out of high school (legit got kicked out) and it was awesome,, he's hilarious and his enthusiasm about the info makes you just as excited. set the speed to 2x on video lectures! jot down a lotta notes! i passed with a 98%
This guy is serious about what he teaches. No phones or laptops so you gotta write everything down. The lectures as so fun, hilarious, and informative. His passion made this class all the more enjoyable. Tests are hard but if you take notes it should come easy, he also provides study guides. Hard class but worth it!
